The 1937 essay by economist Arthur I. Bloomfield about economist Thorstein Veblen written for the course entitled "Economics from an Institutional Standpoint" taught by Frank H. Knight, is presented. Topics include institutional economics, the Chicago School of Economics, the Darwinian aspects of Veblen's theories of economic evolution, and Veblen's notions on the Leisure Class.

The article presents a bibliography of books on economics. Some of the books included in the bibliography are "The Business Biography of John Wenamaker, Founder and Builder," by J.H. Appel; "Francesco di Marco da Prato: Notise e Documenti Sulla Mercatura Italiana del Secolo," by E. Bensa; "Commercial Geography," by A.P. Brigham; "British Opinion and the American Revolution," by D.M. Clark; "Capital and Labor Under Fascism," by C. Haider. The book "Deutschlands Zahlungsbilans, 1925: Zugleich Chronik der Auslandsbeziehungen der Deutschen Volkswirtschaft," by A. Heichen, is an effort to estimate the balance-sheet characteristics of German economic life in 1925, for the purpose of ascertaining the extent to which Germany is fulfilling her obligations under the Dawes plan. The author comes to the conclusion that Germany is doing so, not by taking a surplus from the normal functioning of her economic system, but by borrowing very heavily abroad. The estimates of various items, in the nature of the case, are highly problematic, when for instance the author is trying to ascertain the amount spent by German tourists abroad and foreign tourists in Germany, but the effort is ingenious, and one admires the clearness with which lie has handled a rather large body of material.

The article presents a list of new books and also provides information about the subject matter of few books."Industry's Coming of Age," by Rexford G. Tugwell studies certain aspects of U.S. productive system, more particularly the causes of increased productivity. "The Social Sciences and Their Interrelations," edited by William Fielding Ogburn and Alexander Goldenweiser, comprises of 33 essays besides an introduction, out of which 29 essays deal with interrelations in anthropology, economics, history, political science and sociology. The list of new books includes names of several books, some of which are "Karl Marx's Interpretation of History" by M.M. Bober, "Rudiments of Economics" by W.W. Hewett, "Studies in Economics and Social Science" by D.B. Copland. Writer L.A. Rufener in his book "Principles of Economics" ignores the common division into consumption, production, exchange and distribution, and treats most economic problems under the general problem of value. Agricultural problems are properly given considerable attention and the problem of public ownership and control is treated with care and with judgment.

The article presents information on various books about general works, theory and its history published in 1925. Some of the books included are, "Papers Relating to Political Economy," by F. Y. Edgeworth. The authors scattered papers, rescued from the files of the "Economic Journal," and the periodicals and brought together in these three volumes, make an impressive showing. Even one who, like the present reviewer, counts himself fairly familiar with the author, cannot turn to the pages of these books without a new appreciation of variety and the sustained level of the achievement they represent. "Origins of Sociology," by Albion W. Small. The author tells what sociology is by telling how it came to be, by tracing its differentiation out of the general field of social science. Being a sociologist, he naturally sees the sociological movement as an advance, a passing beyond previous social science. In the preface the movement is described as "a drive from relatively irresponsible discursiveness."
