Abstract

The COVID-19 Registry Japan (COVIREGI-JP), a registry of patients hospitalized with coronavirus disease (COVID-19), contains the largest national COVID-19 inpatient population. Since COVIREGI- JP invites voluntary participation by facilities, selection bias is inevitable. The current study examined the representativeness of COVIREGI-JP data in comparison to open-source national data. The number of infections and deaths among hospitalized COVID-19 patients in COVIREGI-JP were compared to those in national data recorded during the six waves of the COVID-19 epidemic until March 6, 2022. During the period studied, patients in COVIREGI-JP represented 1% of the total COVID-19 cases according to national data; the proportion was high during the first wave (32.7%) and tended to decrease, especially after the fourth wave. The overall proportion of patients from each region varied from 0.8% to 2.5%, but case fatality rates in COVIREGI-JP tended to be higher than those in the national data, with the exception of a few waves, in several regions. The difference was smallest during the first wave. Although COVIREGI-JP consistently registered cases from all regions of the country, the proportion tended to decline after the beginning of the epidemic. Given the epidemiological persistence and the ever-changing epidemiology of COVID-19, continued case registration and data utilization in COVIREGI-JP is desirable, although selection bias in COVIREGI-JP registration of cases should be carefully interpreted.

The heat generation of a low-temperature polycrystalline thin-film transistor in pulse operation is analyzed and a technique is proposed for accurately measuring its thermal temperature in high-frequency operation. The degradation in pulse operation is investigated by pulse signal input into the p-channel low-temperature p-Si thin-transistor (TFT) and the relationship between the thermal temperature and the degradation in the pulse operation is discussed.

Abstract

Epidemiologic studies have shown that greater physical activity tends to reduce a the risk of coronary artery disease. However, there is much less evidence bearing on the question of whether, having already had a heart attack, the risks of a second myocardial infarction can be reduced by physical activity. To determine the role of physical activity in protection from a second infarction, 80 men who had an acute myocardial infarction were selected for long-term follow-up. Two were lost to follow-up, and two died of unrelated causes, leaving 76 patients for evaluation. Eleven cardiac deaths were observed during the five-year follow-up period. Physical activity was determined for all patients by telephone interview, and was expressed as kilocalories of energy expenditure per kilogram of body weight per day. Statistical analysis revealed that, for obesity, alcohol consumption, and smoking, there was no difference between the patients who died and those who lived. However, age and physical activity were both significant determinants of cardiac death when analyzed using the Cox logistic analysis of multiple hazards. Younger age at the first heart attack and less physical activity are risk factors for a second heart attack. The evidence suggests that maintaining higher levels of physical activity after a heart attack may very well decrease the likelihood of subsequent cardiac death. The crystal and molecular structure of (±)-2-rnethylarnino-4,5-bis(p-chlorophenyl)-4-hydroxy-4H-imidazole has been determined by the single-crystal X-ray diffraction method. The crystals are monoclinic with space group P21/c, cell dimensions: a=14.872(5), b=9.216(7), c=12.945(11) Å, β=99.53(5)°, and Z=4. The structure was determined by the symbolic addition method and refined by the least-squares method to give the final Rfactor of 0.072 for 1616 non-zero reflections.
