9. Sol–gel synthesized siloxane hybrid materials for display and optoelectronic applications.

Abstract

Recently, displays and optoelectronics have made remarkable development because they are the most frequently exposed applications to humanity. The pixel size has become smaller and a new form factor is needed for displays and optoelectronics beyond rigid ones. New material breakthroughs enabling new form factors with plastic-like flexibility, mechanical toughness as well as glass-like thermal/mechanical resistance and low thermal expansion are required. Sol–gel-derived siloxane hybrid material (Hybrimer), showing synergetic properties of organic and inorganic (O–I) materials, can be realized by chemical hybridization and dense O–I co-networks. In addition, the characteristics of hybrimer can be easily optimized via control of organic functional groups, sol–gel reaction, and polymerization steps. First, a sol–gel reaction and polymerization, which enables chemical hybridization of O–I groups, are introduced. Then, the various display and optoelectronic applications using hybrimer achieved by control of properties are provided: (i) patterning, (ii) passivation, (iii) glass-fabric reinforced film, and (iv) color conversion films. This paper includes a brief overview of fabrication process and applications using hybrimer developed over the past decades. Highlights: Sol–gel-derived siloxane hybrid material (hybrimer) is composed of a chemical hybridization between organic and siloxane phase. Hybrimer can be simply fabricated using sol–gel reaction and polymerization. Properties of hybrimer can be easily tuned by controlling the organic groups and sol–gel reaction. The article looks at study regarding solution processed in Nanowire field effect transistors (NWFETs) for conventional bottom gate top contacts (BGTC structure) with a multiple nanowire network. Abstract

We report a technique for extraction of the intrinsic subgap density of states (gA, int(E)) by deembedding the parasitic capacitance in amorphous indium–gallium–zinc–oxide TFTs through the optical charge pumping method. As structure-dependent parameters in the proposed extraction technique, the overlap length Lov between the source/drain (S/D) and the active layer and the parasitic overlap area between the gate and the S/D metal (Cpar, S/Cpar, D) are considered under dark and subbandgap photonic states. We obtained gA, int(E) as a superposition of the exponential deep and tail states with NTA, \rm int\! =\! \6.0\! \times\! \10^16\ \eV^-1 \! \cdot\! \cm^-3, kTTA, \rm int\! =\! \0.16\ \eV, NDA, \rm int\! =\break \1.8 \times \10^15\ \eV^-1 \cdot \cm^-3, and kTDA, int = \1.9\ \eV from samples with various parasitic areas. Abstract

A high performance ladder-like structured methacrylate siloxane hybrid material (LMSH) was fabricated via simple hydrolytic sol–gel reaction, followed by free-radical polymerization. A structurally ordered siloxane backbone, the ladder-like structure, which is an essential factor for high performance, could be achieved by a short period of sol–gel reaction in only 4 h. This results in superior optical (Transmittance > 90% at 550 nm), thermal (T5 wt % decomposition > 400 ℃ ), mechanical properties(elastic recovery = 0.86, hardness = 0.6 GPa) compared to the random- and even commercialized cage-structured silsesquioxane, which also has ordered structure. It was investigated that the fabricated ladder-like structured MSH showed the highest overall density of organic/inorganic co-networks that are originated from highly ordered siloxane network, along with high conversion rate of polymerizable methacrylate groups. Our findings suggest a potential of the ladder-like structured MSH as a powerful alternative for the methacrylate polysilsesquioxane, which can be applied to thermally stable and flexible optical coatings, even with an easier and simpler preparation process.
