20. Effectiveness of Interventions Involving Physical Activities for Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder: A Meta-Analysis

Abstract

Individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) benefit from physical activity interventions. This study synthesized 14 single-case design (SCD) studies on interventions involving physical activities for individuals with ASD. The study evaluated the methodological quality of the reviewed studies by using What Works Clearinghouse (WWC) design standards and used Tau-U indices to determine the overall magnitudes of intervention effects and the potential variables that moderate improved outcomes for individuals with ASD. The results indicated that three studies met the WWC SCD design standards. Interventions involving physical activities demonstrated an overall moderate-to-large positive effect on behaviors of individuals with ASD. The effect size of sports-related skills was significantly larger than that of exercise. The smallest effect size among dependent variables was engagement and the largest was problem behavior. Interventions implemented by professional practitioners demonstrated a larger effect size than interventions implemented by teachers or teachers with researcher. Questions remain concerning what dosage of physical activity interventions would produce optimum results for individuals with ASD. Further high-quality studies are needed to examine the differences in physical activity intervention outcomes for individuals with ASD according to moderators.

22. A Meta-Analysis of Tier 2 Interventions Implemented within School-Wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports

Abstract

This meta-analysis synthesized 26 published single-case design (SCD) studies on Tier 2 behavior interventions implemented within the educational framework of school-wide positive behavioral interventions and supports. We used Tau-U indices to determine the overall magnitudes of effect of the Tier 2 behavior interventions and the potential variables that moderate improved student behavioral outcomes. The 26 studies that were analyzed included a total of 243 student participants. The studies were evaluated to determine whether and to what extent they met What Works Clearinghouse (WWC) SCD standards. Of these, 10 studies were confirmed as meeting WWC SCD standards with or without reservations. Notable findings were that outcomes for students in kindergarten and secondary grade levels were limited, and insufficient screening methods were used to identify and select students needing Tier 2 interventions. The results indicate that the literature reports Tier 2 interventions with effect sizes ranging from 0.26 to 0.98. Average effect size for social skills instruction was found to be large, whereas Check-in/Check-out, group contingency, and intervention packages had medium effect sizes. Moderator analyses indicated different effect sizes across intervention types, outcomes, and implementers. The results are discussed in relation to implications for practice, limitations, and future research.

29. Study on the Slotless PM Motor Design Process Considering High Speed

Abstract

Slotless-type motors have a very constant torque without cogging torque because the windings are arranged in the gap of the stator. In addition, since there is no stator teeth structure, reduces harmonic generation, and the eddy current loss of the permanent magnet and iron loss are small, resulting in high efficiency. However, slotless motors generate large current harmonics due to their low inductance when pulsewidth modulation (PWM) control is considered. Large current harmonics affect torque ripple and voltage THD, resulting in reduced motor performance. Therefore, additional inductance is required for slotless motors. In this article, the process for the detailed design of slotless-type motors and determining the inductance through PWM analysis is proposed. A detailed design technique for a slotless motor that satisfies the target performance and limitations was presented. In addition, PWM control was implemented using MATLAB’s Simulink to determine the accurate inductance. The validity of the proposed process is verified by finite element analysis (FEM) using PWM control.

30. Design of a Slotless Structure for Minimizing Cogging Torque and Torque Ripple in a Column Type EPS Motor for Vehicles

Abstract

Currently, the automotive market is undergoing a vibrant transition toward component electrification driven by the widespread adoption of electric vehicles. The steering system, electric power steering (EPS), has evolved gradually from traditional hydraulic systems (HPSs) to electric systems. The current state sees the majority of commercial vehicles equipped with electric EPS systems. EPS reduces the steering effort applied to the steering wheel during low-speed driving, enhancing driving convenience. It is widely adopted in most commercial vehicles due to numerous advantages such as system simplification, speed-dependent steering control, and vehicle weight reduction compared to traditional HPSs. EPS can achieve a 3%–5% improvement in fuel efficiency compared to traditional HPSs because it operates only when the driver manipulates the steering wheel. However, what matters most in EPS is vibration and noise. Drivers are directly exposed to the vibration and noise of EPS. Therefore, it is crucial to implement electromagnetic designs that reduce cogging torque and torque ripple, which are the causes of vibrations and noise in electric motors. However, due to the inherent characteristics of electric motors, in structures designed for winding coil windings, such as fixed stator slots and teeth, the variation in reluctance during operation is not consistent. Consequently, this leads to an increase in the occurrence of cogging torque and torque ripple. However, if an EPS motor is designed with a structure lacking stator teeth, the change in reluctance during rotor rotation remains constant. In theory, this would significantly reduce cogging torque and torque ripple when the rotor is in motion. Therefore, in this article, the conventional EPS motor, designed with a structure containing stator teeth resulting in cogging torque and torque ripple, is targeted for reduction. This article designed a slotless motor structure with the goal of significantly minimizing these effects. In this article, pursued a design to achieve the target output of the EPS slotless motor and enhance the overall output density. Ultimately, this motor designed, fabricated, and analyzed a motor for the automotive EPS system with the capability to reduce vibrations and noise while achieving weight reduction.

Abstract

BackgroundCrohn's disease (CD) is an intractable inflammatory bowel disease of unknown cause. Recent genome-wide association studies of CD in Korean and Japanese populations suggested marginal sharing of susceptibility loci between Caucasian and Asian populations. As the 7 identified loci altogether explain 5.31% of the risk for CD, the objective of this study was to identify additional CD susceptibility loci in the Korean population.MethodsUsing the ImmunoChip custom single-nucleotide polymorphism array designed for dense genotyping of 186 loci identified through GWAS, we analyzed 722 individuals with CD and 461 controls for 96,048 SNP markers in the discovery stage, followed by validation in an additional 948 affected individuals and 977 controls.ResultsWe confirmed 6 previously reported loci in Caucasian: GPR35 at 2q37 (rs3749172; P = 5.30 × 10, odds ratio [OR] = 1.45), ZNF365 at 10q21 (rs224143; P = 2.20 × 10, OR = 1.38), ZMIZ1 at 10q22 (rs1250569; P = 3.05 × 10, OR = 1.30), NKX2-3 at 10q24 (rs4409764; P = 7.93 × 10, OR = 1.32), PTPN2 at 18p11 (rs514000; P = 9.00 × 10, OR = 1.33), and USP25 at 21q11 (rs2823256; P = 2.49 × 10, OR = 1.35), bringing the number of known CD loci (including 3 in the HLA) in Koreans to 15. The 6 additional loci increased the total genetic variance for CD risk from 5.31% to 7.27% in Koreans.ConclusionsAlthough the different genetic backgrounds of CD between Asian and Western countries has been well established for the major susceptibility genes, our findings of overlapping associations offer new insights into the genetic architecture of CD.

Abstract

Recently, due to the price fluctuation and supply instability of rare earth mineral resources, there has been a lot of development of electric motors using non-rare-earth permanent magnets. As a result, motors using Dy-free permanent magnets and ferrite permanent magnets are being researched, and, in particular, ferrite permanent magnets often utilize spoke-type structures, which are magnetic flux concentrators, to compensate for their low coercivity and residual flux density. However, in general, spoke-type PMSMs do not use much reluctance torque, so double-layer spoke-type PMSMs have been studied for their more efficient design. Unlike general spoke-type PMSMs, double-layer spoke-type PMSMs can utilize high reluctance torque by increasing the difference between d-axis and q-axis reluctance. However, as the difference in magnetic resistance increases, vibration and noise are generated, which adversely affects the mechanical part and shortens the life of the motor. Although this problem seemed to be solved by applying core skew in the previous study, it was confirmed that the axial force caused by the axial leakage flux occurred in the maximum torque per ampere (MTPA) control section and the torque ripple was increased. Therefore, in this paper, a model that can apply symmetrical core skew and reduce axial force is proposed. First, the causes of the axial force generated in previous studies were analyzed. Based on the analysis of these causes, a new symmetrical core skew structure was proposed, and its justification was verified through FEA. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
