In this work, we define the notion of unimodular random measured metric spaces as a common generalization of various other notions. This includes the discrete cases like unimodular graphs and stationary point processes, as well as the non-discrete cases like stationary random measures and the continuum metric spaces arising as scaling limits of graphs. We provide various examples and prove many general results; e.g., on weak limits, re-rooting invariance, random walks, ergodic decomposition, amenability and balancing transport kernels. In addition, we generalize the Palm theory to point processes and random measures on a given unimodular space. This is useful for Palm calculations and also for reducing some problems to the discrete cases.

In this article, we show that every stationary random measure on $\mathbb R^d$ that is essentially free (i.e., has no symmetries a.s.) admits a point process as a factor (i.e., as a measurable and translation-equivariant function of the measure). As a result, we improve the results of Last and Thorisson (2022) on the existence of a factor balancing allocation between ergodic pairs of stationary random measures $\Phi$ and $\Psi$ with equal intensities. In particular, we prove that such an allocation exists if $\Phi$ is diffuse and either $(\Phi,\Psi)$ is essentially free or $\Phi$ assigns zero measure to every $(d-1)$-dimensional affine hyperplane. The main result is deduced from an existing result in descriptive set theory, that is, the existence of lacunary sections. We also weaken the assumption of being essentially free to the case where a discrete group of symmetries is allowed.

It is known that the size of the largest common subtree (i.e., the maximum agreement subtree) of two independent random binary trees with $n$ given labeled leaves is of order between $n^{0.366}$ and $n^{1/2}$. We improve the lower bound to order $n^{0.4464}$ by constructing a common subtree recursively and by proving a lower bound for its asymptotic growth. The construction is a modification of an algorithm proposed by D. Aldous by splitting the tree at the centroid and by proceeding recursively.

In this work, a unimodular random planar triangulation is constructed that has no invariant circle packing. This disputes a problem asked in [arXiv:1910.01614]. A natural weaker problem is the existence of point-stationary circle packings for a graph, which are circle packings that satisfy a certain mass transport principle. It is shown that the answer to this weaker problem is also false. In this work, a metric is presented on the set of boundedly-compact pointed metric spaces that generates the Gromov-Hausdorff topology. A similar metric is defined for measured metric spaces that generates the Gromov-Hausdorff-Prokhorov topology. This extends previous works which consider only length spaces or discrete metric spaces. Completeness and separability are also proved for these metrics. Hence, they provide the measure theoretic requirements to study random (measured) boundedly-compact pointed metric spaces, which is the main motivation of this work. In addition, we present a generalization of the classical theorem of Strassen which is of independent interest. This generalization proves an equivalent formulation of the Prokhorov distance of two finite measures, having possibly different total masses, in term of approximate coupling. A Strassen-type result is also proved for the Gromov-Hausdorff-Prokhorov metric for compact spaces., Comment: 36 pages, 1 figures. In this paper, an approach for generalizing the Gromov-Hausdorff metric is presented, which applies to metric spaces equipped with some additional structure. A special case is the Gromov-Hausdorff-Prokhorov metric between measured metric spaces. This abstract framework unifies several existing Gromov-Hausdorff-type metrics for metric spaces equipped with a measure, a point, a closed subset, a curve, a tuple of such structures, etc. Along with reviewing these special cases in the literature, several new examples are also presented. Two frameworks are provided, one for compact metric spaces and the other for boundedly-compact pointed metric spaces. In both cases, a Gromov-Hausdorff-type metric is defined and its topological properties are studied. In particular, completeness and separability is proved under some conditions. This enables one to study random metric spaces equipped with additional structures, which is the main motivation of this work., Comment: 61 pages. The notions of unimodular Minkowski and Hausdorff dimensions are defined in [arXiv:1807.02980] for unimodular random discrete metric spaces. The present paper is focused on the connections between these notions and the polynomial growth rate of the underlying space. It is shown that bounding the dimension is closely related to finding suitable equivariant weight functions (i.e., measures) on the underlying discrete space. The main results are unimodular versions of the mass distribution principle, Billingsley's lemma and Frostman's lemma, which allow one to derive upper bounds on the unimodular Hausdorff dimension from the growth rate of suitable equivariant weight functions. These results allow one to compute or bound both types of unimodular dimensions in a large set of examples in the theory of point processes, unimodular random graphs, and self-similarity. Further results of independent interest are also presented, like a version of the max-flow min-cut theorem for unimodular one-ended trees and a weak form of pointwise ergodic theorems for all unimodular discrete spaces., Comment: 39 pages. This work introduces two new notions of dimension, namely the unimodular Minkowski and Hausdorff dimensions, which are inspired from the classical analogous notions. These dimensions are defined for unimodular discrete spaces, introduced in this work, which provide a common generalization to stationary point processes under their Palm version and unimodular random rooted graphs. The use of unimodularity in the definitions of dimension is novel. Also, a toolbox of results is presented for the analysis of these dimensions. In particular, analogues of Billingsley's lemma and Frostman's lemma are presented. These last lemmas are instrumental in deriving upper bounds on dimensions, whereas lower bounds are obtained from specific coverings. The notions of unimodular Hausdorff size, which is a discrete analogue of the Hausdorff measure, and unimodular dimension function are also introduced. This toolbox allows one to connect the unimodular dimensions to other notions such as volume growth rate, discrete dimension and scaling limits. It is also used to analyze the dimensions of a set of examples pertaining to point processes, branching processes, random graphs, random walks, and self-similar discrete random spaces. In this paper, we present a result similar to the shift-coupling result of Thorisson (1996) in the context of random graphs and networks. The result is that a given random rooted network can be obtained by changing the root of another given one if and only if the distributions of the two agree on the invariant sigma-field. Several applications of the result are presented for the case of unimodular networks. In particular, it is shown that the distribution of a unimodular network is uniquely determined by its restriction to the invariant sigma-filed. Also, the theorem is applied to the existence of an invariant transport kernel that balances between two given (discrete) measures on the vertices. An application is the existence of a so called extra head scheme for the Bernoulli process on an infinite unimodular graph. Moreover, a construction is presented for balancing transport kernels that is a generalization of the Gale-Shapley stable matching algorithm in bipartite graphs. Another application is on a general method that covers the situations where some vertices and edges are added to a unimodular network and then, to make it unimodular, the probability measure is biased and then a new root is selected. It is proved that this method provides all possible unimodularizations in these situations. Finally, analogous existing results for stationary point processes and unimodular networks are discussed in detail., Comment: 34 pages

This paper is centered on covariant dynamics on unimodular random graphs and random networks, namely maps from the set of vertices to itself which are preserved by graph or network isomorphisms. Such dynamics are referred to as vertex-shifts here. The first result of the paper is a classification of vertex-shifts on unimodular random networks. Each such vertex-shift partitions the vertices into a collection of connected components and foils. The latter are discrete analogues the stable manifold of the dynamics. The classification is based on the cardinality of the connected components and foils. Up to an event of zero probability, there are three classes of foliations in a connected component: F/F (with finitely many finite foils), I/F (infinitely many finite foils), and I/I (infinitely many infinite foils). An infinite connected component of the graph of a vertex-shift on a random network forms an infinite tree with one selected end which is referred to as an Eternal Family Tree. Such trees can be seen as stochastic extensions of branching processes. Unimodular Eternal Family Trees can be seen as extensions of critical branching processes. The class of offspring-invariant Eternal Family Trees, which is introduced in the paper, allows one to analyze dynamics on networks which are not necessarily unimodular. These can be seen as extensions of non-necessarily critical branching processes. Several construction techniques of Eternal Family Trees are proposed, like the joining of trees or moving the root to a far descendant. Eternal Galton-Watson Trees and Eternal Multi-type Galton-Watson Trees are also introduced as special cases of Eternal Family Trees satisfying additional independence properties. These examples allow one to show that the results on Eternal Family Trees unify and extend to the dependent case several well known theorems of the literature on branching processes., Comment: 43 pages, 1 figure

We give an algorithm to construct a translation-invariant transport kernel between ergodic stationary random measures $\Phi$ and $\Psi$ on $\mathbb R^d$, given that they have equal intensities. As a result, this yields a construction of a shift-coupling of an ergodic stationary random measure and its Palm version. This algorithm constructs the transport kernel in a deterministic manner given realizations $\varphi$ and $\psi$ of the measures. The (non-constructive) existence of such a transport kernel was proved in [8]. Our algorithm is a generalization of the work of [3], in which a construction is provided for the Lebesgue measure and an ergodic simple point process. In the general case, we limit ourselves to what we call constrained densities and transport kernels. We give a definition of stability of constrained densities and introduce our construction algorithm inspired by the Gale-Shapley stable marriage algorithm. For stable constrained densities, we study existence, uniqueness, monotonicity w.r.t. the measures and boundedness., Comment: In the second version, we change the way of presentation of the main results in Section 4.
