A 3D imaging system using a double-axis fluorescence microscope provides a practical way to reconstruct 3D images of micro-objects from images simultaneously acquired from the two orthogonal directions. In this paper, we show experimental results of 3D image reconstruction using a water plant specimen as an object.

Effect of heat treatment on the tensile strength of Al2O3-SiO2, Al2O3-SiO2-ZrO2 and Al2O3-SiO2-Cr2O3 glass fibers was investigated. Like general glass fibers, the strength of these glass fibers decreased as the fiber diameters increased. There was little difference in tensile strength among three kinds of these fibers that had the same diameter but different in chemical composition, regardless whether they were heat-treated from 800 to 1100°C or not. By the heat treatment up to 900°C, these fibers consisted of only amorphous phase, irrespective of their chemical composition. By the heat treatment at 1000 and 1100°C, all these fibers partly crystallized. However, they still contained at least 35mass% of amorphous phase. Because the tensile strength of these fibers was independent of their heat treatment, their tensile strength can be governed mainly by the properties of amorphous phase in these fibers.

We propose a 3D computed tomography method based on the generalized Radon transform defined for incoherent optical systems. We apply this method to reconstruct microscopic 3D images efficiently from 2D images acquired with multi-axis fluorescence microscopes which eliminate missing frequency bands. Simulation results based on digital algorithms are shown.

A 3D optical imaging method is presented based on computed tomography techniques. The 3D optical transfer function of our system has a higher band spherically, since 3D reconstructed images are composed only of the in-focused information of objects. Experimental results are shown for a simulated fluorescence microscope.

We developed a double-axis fluorescence microscope as a new type of 3D microscope, in which two conventional microscopes are placed perpendicularly to one another. This optical microscope provides a solution to extend the spatial frequency band in the depth direction, which is greatly limited for conventional single-axis microscopes. In addition, this equipment has a capability of implementing a fast image acquisition system by simultaneously taking images through both microscopes. We evaluated the 3D imaging properties of our system using 3D observation images of a micro-fluorescent sphere. In order to reconstruct 3D images of micro-objects, we applied a CT-based method we proposed to the 3D microscopic imaging system. Our experiments using a biological micro-specimen verified usefulness and effectiveness of our system.

With regard to Ti-Cr system alloys containing Cr up to 10%, the effects of addition of Cr upon the various properties, e. g. hot workability, cold workability, heat-treatability, corrosion resistance, etc., were investigated, and the results were sa follows, (1) Hot workability of Ti-Cr system alloys are relatively good, but their cold workability are very unfavourable.(2) By heat-treatment, improvement in properties of a considerably wide range could be expected.(3) By the addition of Cr, corrosion resistance towards concentrated acid, e. g. hydrochlorid acid, sulphoric acid, etc., deteriorates.
