THz free electron laser at SANKEN, Osaka university generates a train of THz pulses with the interval of 27 MHz in the repetition of 5 Hz. The number of pulses in a train is about 100. Single pulse energy exceeds 200 \muJ at the carrier frequency of 4.5 THz. To extract a single pulse from the train, the reflective switch of the electron-hole plasma on the surface of Gallium Arsenide wafer driven by the Ti:sapphire laser pulse was constructed and the characteristics of the switch is studied. By evaluating also the characteristics of silicon and germanium wafers, the comparison experiments are performed. In addition, the study for carrier dynamics with the time scale of microseconds by measuring the variations of reflected and transmitted THz pulses with the interval of 27 MHz are being conducted. We report the recent results of the switching for the THz pulse and its time evolution in this conference.

Recent demonstrations of such THz powered accelerators relied on two counter-propagating single-cycle THz pulses. However, to achieve high energy gains in the acceleration process high energy THz pulses are needed which in turn require complex optical setups. Here, we present on the development of a matchbox sized multi-layered accelerator designed to boost the 50 keV output of a DC electron gun to energies of ~400 keV that only requires a single THz pulse to be powered. An integrated tunable mirror inside the structure interferes the front of the driving THz pulse with its rear part such that the field in the interaction region is optimized for efficient acceleration. This reduces the complexity of the required optical setup. A superconducting Compact Energy Recovery Linac (cERL) for electrons was constructed in 2013 at KEK to demonstrate energy recovery concept with low emittance, high-current CW beams of more than 10 mA for future multi-GeV ERL. Recently this cERL was operated not only to demonstrate energy recovery linac high current beam operation but also to promote and conduct a variety of industrial applications such as FEL, THz operation and Rare Isotope Production and irradiation for some materials. We are conducting the electro-optic (EO) sampling measurements using a Ti:sapphire laser synchronizing to the accelerator in order to understand the time structure of the terahertz free electron laser (THz-FEL) at the Institute of Scientific and Industrial Research, Osaka University. Up to now, the EO signal varies in shot-to-shot, but there is a periodic variation in a macropulse. To make clear the physical reason of this phenomena, we are studying the frequency analyses for the EO signals in various conditions of the FEL operation. We report the present situation of this study.

Delbrück scattering, in which a gamma-ray interacting with a Coulomb field creates an electron-position pair, which subsequently annihilates to generate a gamma-ray which energy is almost identical with the incident gamma-ray, is one of important phenomena to study non-linear effects by QED and vacuum polarization. Koga and Hayakawa have presented that it is possible to measure selectively the amplitude of Delbrück scattering using linearly polarized gamma-ray beams. We have measured the scattered gamma-rays using1-MeVLCSgamma-rays, and calculated the expected spectrum using Geant4., Nuclear Photonics 2020

Although semiconductor is a good transparent material for the radiation with the wavelength from mid to far infrared, it becomes highly reflective when the electron-hole plasma is formed on the surface by irradiating the femto- or picosecond laser pulse. Thus, it is possible to use as a reflective switch with high-speed response for the radiation of mid to far infrared range. In this project, we will reveal the reflective characteristics and dynamics of the plasma switch for the mid infrared range at the KU-FEL. At present we are designing the optics and layout for the experiment and making the comparison with the experimental results at the far infrared range. We will show the design of optics for the experiment at KU-FEL and the discussion for the characteristics of the plasma switch at the mid infrared range deduced from the results at the far infrared range., The 11th International Symposium of Advanced Energy Science

cERLではSASE型の赤外自由電子レーザーの開発を行っている。SASE型では長いアンジュレータによりFELを発振させるが、cERLのパラメータでは飽和に到達するには不十分である。出力の一部を上流から再導入してシードとして機能させる、再生増幅型FEL(Regenerative Amplifier FEL)の手法を用いると、発振の立ち上がりが促進され、短いアンジュレータでも飽和に到達することができる。cERLでは高繰り返しのバンチが特徴であり、この手法に適している。また、外部シードを組み合わせると、高繰り返しのシードFELに発展させることも可能である。本発表ではcERLを想定したRAFELのシミュレーション結果について報告する。, 第17回日本加速器学会年会

近年、金属に代わる軽量で低コストな工業用素材として樹脂材料の需要が増えている。一方、中赤外波長領域は、物質固有の特異な吸収ピークがみられる波長領域であり、これは分子内の振動モードに由来している。様々な種類の樹脂材料の加工効率の向上を考えたとき、使用される樹脂材料ごとに異なるこの吸収特性を利用した非熱加工が理想的な加工手法と考えられる。しかしながら、各々の樹脂材料において、加工に最も適した波長や必要なパワー密度、パルス幅などの情報はほとんど得られていない。これは中赤外波長領域で、波長制御が可能な高出力の光源が存在しないことに起因している。KEKはNEDOからの競争的資金を得て、中赤外FEL（MIR-FEL）の開発を開始した。目的は、KEKにあるcERLを用いてMIR-FELを建設し、そのFELを産業用レーザーの開発に必要な加工用データベースを構築するための光源として使用することである。今年3月にアンジュレータ1台のみを用いた最初のFEL実験が行われ、自発放射よりも有意に増幅された光が観測された。さらに6月に2台のアンジュレータを用いたFEL実験が開始される予定である。本発表では、このFELシステムの概要とFEL発振実験で得られた性能について報告する。, 第17回日本加速器学会年会

KEKのエネルギー回収型ライナックの原理実証機, cERLにおいてFELの建設が2019年10月から開始された. このcERL-FEL計画は波長10 – 20 μmの中赤外領域における発振を目的とし, ビーム・エネルギー17.5 MeVに対して, 周期長24 mm, 長さ3 mのアンジュレータを2台並べて配置する. バンチ電荷が60 pCの時、波長20 µmにおいて約1 µJのパルスエネルギーの光が発生, 繰り返しが81.25 MHzの電子銃レーザーを用いたCW運転時には, 平均レーザー出力として最大100 W程度が期待される. アンジュレータ1号機の設置を伴う第1次建設が2020年3月に終了し, 4月から5月までの2ヶ月間でアンジュレータ2号機の設置を行う第2次建設が実施された. 本発表では, これまでのcERLの構成を踏まえ, 新たに建設されたcERL-FELについて説明を行う., 第17回日本加速器学会年会

FEL発振器は共振器内で光を繰り返しFEL増幅することで強い光を発生させている。一般にFEL発振器から取り出される光は数マイクロ秒の長さのパルス列であるが、FELの短パルス性を活かした物質科学での利用においては、単一パルスであることが望ましいことも多い。そのため、産研THz FELに対しては、レーザー励起により半導体表面にプラズマを励起し、反射スイッチとして単一パルスを取り出すことを実施している。本研究では、この半導体反射スイッチの材料種や励起レーザー強度による応答の違いを比較計測し、その特性を評価している。本発表では、これまでに実施した実験計測の結果についてのまとめを報告する。, 第17回日本加速器学会年会

現在、日大LEBRAでは高次高調波発生を通じたアト秒光源生成を狙うプロジェクトに参加している。アト秒光源を作り出すには高ピーク強度パルスが必要とされており、これを実現するためFELパルス光を外部共振器に蓄積するための基礎研究を行っている。しかし、日大FELの中赤外での20usのマクロパルスの光では共振器設計は困難が予想される。そこで赤外モードロック・ファイバーレーザーを用いた試験蓄積と光学系づくりを行い、FELパルス蓄積に必要な技術を獲得することを目指す。今回は試験蓄積の状況と、これまでの取り組みやそこから得られる考察を発表する。共振器はモードロック・ファイバーレーザーのパルス繰り返しの倍の周波数で蓄積するように設計し、4枚のミラーによって周回軌道を作る。周回軌道の微調整や入射光のビームサイズおよび発散の調整をすることで共振器内部の蓄積条件に近づけていった結果、透過光からは設計通りの内部蓄積状況になっていることが分かった。他にも、入射光のバックグラウンドノイズがあり、パルス蓄積と区別するための取り組みも紹介する。, 第17回日本加速器学会年会

Q-LEAP基礎基盤研究の課題としてQST、京大、日大、KEKで進めている中赤外FELによるHHGのための基礎研究において、FELのCEPを安定化するためのCEP安定中赤外シード光源を開発している。この光源は、繰り返し20 MHz程度で数10 mW程度のCEP安定化光源を想定しており、現在、Ybファイバーレーザーによる差周波発生光源を設計・構築している。これまでに20 MHzのモードロック発振器、3 W級のプリアンプ、10 W超のアンプの構築し、現在、差周波発生のための波長シフト光発生試験および差周波発生光学系の設計を実施している。本発表では、このレーザーシステム開発についての現状を報告する。, 第17回日本加速器学会年会

QEDは光子と光子の相互作用を予言している。その中の一つ、デルブリュック散乱について、従来デルブリュック散乱の振幅のみを計測する手段がなかった。直線偏光したレーザーコンプトン散乱ガンマ線で計測する手段を提案し計算した結果、特定の角度で計測できることを発見した。そこで、UVSOR放射光施設でレーザーコンプトン散乱ガンマ線の生成を行い、ガンマ線の散乱の計測を開始した。, 日本物理学会 2020年春の年会

線形加速器による発振型FELは一般に電子ビームのバンチ列を反映したパルス列として利用される。しかしながら、光パルスの高強度性を利用する研究では、単一パルスであることが必要とされる場合もある。そのため、阪大産研THz FELにおいて、0.1 mJ程度のフェムト秒チタンサファイアレーザーで半導体ウェハ表面に電子-ホールプラズマを励起することによる反射スイッチの研究を実施している。本講演では、この研究の詳細と他の波長帯域での利用可能性についての検討を報告する。, 第26回FELとHigh-Power Radiation研究会

High harmonic generation (HHG) in rare gases is now becoming a common technology to produce attosecond pulses in VUV wavelengths. So far HHG sources have been realized by femtosecond solid-state lasers, not FELs. We propose a FEL-driven HHG source to explore attosecond pulses at photon energies above 1 keV with a MHz-repetition, which is difficult with solid-state lasers [1]. A research program has been launched to establish technologies for the FEL-HHG, which covers generation and characterization of few-cycle IR pulses in a FEL oscillator, stacking of FEL pulses in an external cavity, and a seed laser for stabilization of carrier-envelope phase in a FEL oscillator. In this talk, we present the scheme of FEL-HHG and the status of the research program.

We have started construction of an infrared SASE FEL system at the return loop of cERL, an energy-recoverylinactestfacilityatKEK.ThemainpurposeofthisprojectisademonstrationofindustrialuseofFEL,forexample non-thermalprocessingofmaterials. ItalsohasapurposeofdevelopingnecessarytechniquesforafutureERLbased FEL. The present design consists of two 3 m undulators and a matching space between the undulators. 大阪大学産業科学研究所のテラヘルツ自由電子レーザー(THz-FEL)の時間構造を計測のために、加速器高周波と同期したチタンサファイアレーザーを用いた電気光学(EO)サンプリング計測を実施している。これまでのところ、EOサンプリング信号にはショットごとの変動が見られているが、パルストレイン内の変動には特定の変動周期が現れている。この物理的要因を究明するために、様々な動作条件でのEO計測信号に対して周波数解析を実施している。本発表では、この研究に関する概要と現状を報告する。, 第16回日本加速器学会年会

Vector beam is a light beam with spatially modulated polarization state across the beam. Particular examples of vector beam are radial and azimuthal polarization which have donut-shaped intensity and radially and azimuthally oriented linear polarization state. Vector beam has long been interest in the laser community and it is well known that vector beam can be created by superposing two optical vortex beams which have spiral wave fronts. It has been demonstrated that optical vortex beam can be generated from a helical undulator as harmonics. Therefore, we propose a scheme to generate vector beam by superposing two optical vortex beams from two helical undulators in tandem, based on the principle of the ’crossed undulator’. 分子研UVSOR BL1Uにて実施している2連のヘリカルアンジュレータを用いて放射光によるベクトルビームの生成の研究実施報告である。

Hiroshima Synchrotron Radiation Center belonging to Hiroshima University is a user facility of the synchrotron radiation with the wavelength of ultraviolet range for natural science especially including materials and biological sciences. The kely apparatus is an electron storage ring with energy of 700 MeV. This machine is a racetrack shape with large two bending magnets and the injection energy is 150 MeV. It is a very compact size with the circumstance of 30 m, but it has only 2 insertion section and the emittance is much larger than the modern synchrotron radiation sources. Therefore, all of users is eager to upgrade the radiation source with several straight sections and low emittance beam keeping compactness. To meet these requests, we are designing the storage ring based on MAX-III. In this conference, we show the present design of the storage ring and its injector., Proceedings of the 8th Int. The klystron modulator for the L-band linac is upgraded for higher stability. The two-step charging system for the pulse forming network (PFN) is upgraded by adding a high impedance resonant charging line in parallel with the main line. The charging step of the PFN voltage is reduced considerably near the setting value by switching the main resonance line off so that the charging current flows only through the high impedance line. The second model of the solid-state switch is developed using 60 static-induction thyristors, ten of which are connected in series with six such series connected in parallel to meet maximum specifications of 25 kV and 6 kA. The air-cooling capacity is reinforced so that repetition rate is increased from 10 pps for the first model to 60 pps. The fluctuation and accuracy of the klystron voltage are measured to be 7.8×10⁻⁶ or 7.8 ppm for the upgraded klystron modulator using a differential amplifier with much higher sensitivity than one used in the previous measurement., Proceedings of the 28th Linear Accelerator Conf., LINAC2016, East Lansing, MI, USA

The Hiroshima Synchrotron Radiation Center (HSRC) at Hiroshima University was established in 1996 for the research of solid state physics. The HSRC equips a 700 MeV electron storage ring nicknamed HiSOR. Recently, we are considering upgrade of the instrumentation beamline for the optical monitoring.
