Separation of Am 3+ and Cm 3+ is one of the most challenging problems in the back-end of the nuclear fuel cycle. In the present work, we exploited the cooperative effect of the opposite selectivity of hydrophobic branched DGA derivatives and hydrophobic N-donor heterocyclic ligands taken in two different phases to achieve improved separation behavior. A systematic study was performed using a series of DGA derivatives to understand the effect and the position of branching in the alkyl chains on the separation behavior of Am 3+ and Cm 3+ . A separation factor (S.F.) value as high as 10 for Cm 3+ over Am 3+ was obtained in the case of TiBDGA ( N,N,N ', N '-tetra- iso -butyl diglycolamide) using SO 3 PhBTPhen ((phenanthroline-2,9-diyl)-1,2,4-triazine-5,5,6,6-tetrayltetrabenzenesulfonic acid) as the aqueous complexant, which is the highest reported value so far for the ligand-based separation of Am 3+ and Cm 3+ without involving any oxidation or reduction step. The high selectivity favoring Cm 3+ ion extraction in the case of this DGA derivative is also explained with the help of computational studies.

The aim of the study was to comparatively evaluate chitosan and Cobalt incorporated chitosan (CoCH) scaffold at varying concentrations in terms of their material characteristics, cytotoxicity and cell adhesion potential. In the present study, cobalt incorporated chitosan scaffolds at varying concentrations were prepared and dried. The synthesised scaffolds were characterised using XRD, FTIR, SEM-EDX and BET which revealed amorphous, porous surface of CoCH scaffolds and FTIR analysis showed the complexation confirming the chelation of cobalt with chitosan. The experimental scaffolds proved to be non-cytotoxic when compared to chitosan scaffolds on XTT analysis. Cell-seeding assay revealed enhanced adherence of hDPSCs to CoCH scaffold at 1:1 ratio in the concentration of 100 mL of 100 μmol/L cobalt chloride solution in 100mL of 2% chitosan solution, when compared to other groups. The cupric oxide (CuO) loaded graphitic carbon nitride (g-C 3 N 4 ) nanocomposites (CuO/g-C 3 N 4 ) were prepared by a facile calcination method. The formation of monoclinic CuO nanocrystals along with g-C 3 N 4 was confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopic analysis. X-ray photoelectron spectral (XPS) analysis further confirms the formation of CuO/g-C 3 N 4 . Distribution of CuO stone-like crystalline nanoparticles on g-C 3 N 4 nanosheets was observed by transmission electron microscopic images. The influence of CuO loading on the optical property of g-C 3 N 4 was determined by ultraviolet (UV)-visible absorption and photoluminescence (PL) spectral analysis. Band gap was decreased from 2.7 to 2.3 eV by the addition of CuO nanoparticles. The catalytic performance of the synthesized samples in 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) and methyl orange (MO) reduction was evaluated. The 5 wt% CuO/g-C 3 N 4 showed 99.5% (7 min) and 99.7% (4 min) reduction efficiency for 4-NP and MO respectively. Synthesis of aluminium-based nanomaterials from aluminium-waste has received huge attention in current scientific research. Herein, an attempt was made to convert aluminium foil food container into aluminium oxyhydroxide (AlOOH) nanoparticles by a precipitation method. X-ray diffraction (XRD), spectroscopic and electron microscopic studies were employed to characterize impure AlOOH (containing sodium chloride, NaCl) and pure AlOOH samples. The band gap (E g ) of AlOOH nanoparticles was found to be 4.5 eV. The catalytic potential of AlOOH samples was evaluated using reduction of methyl orange (MO) and Eriochrome black T (EBT) dyes. Impure AlOOH nanoparticles could reduce 99.8% of MO and EBT dye within 4 min and 3 min respectively. Effect of the AlOOH dosage and NaBH 4 concentration on catalytic reduction was determined. Selectivity between Am3+ and Cm3+ was investigated after their aqueous complexation with three structurally tailored hydrophilic bis-(1,2,4-triazin-3-yl) ligands followed by their extraction with N,N,N'N'-tetraoctyl diglycolamide (TODGA) dissolved in an ionic liquid (C4mim·Tf2N). The three hydrophilic ligands used were SO3PhBTP, SO3PhBTBP, and SO3PhBTPhen. It was evident from the solvent extraction studies that SO3PhBTP formed a stronger complex with Cm3+ than with Am3+, but SO3PhBTPhen showed better complexation ability for Am3+ than for Cm3+, and SO3PhBTBP showed no selectivity for the two actinide ions. DFT calculations indicated that the coordinating 'N' atoms in BTP were more co-planar in the complex and this co-planarity was higher in the Cm3+ complex as compared to that in Am3+. In the case of BTBP and BTPhen ligands, on the other hand, the co-planarity was more pronounced in the Am3+ complexes. Mayer's bond order calculations of M-N bonds in the complexes also indicated a reversal of the complexation ability of the BTP and BTPhen ligands for Am3+ and Cm3+. Calculations of the complexation energies further supported the higher selectivity of the BTP ligand for Am3+ by -52.0 kJ mol-1, and better selectivity of the BTPhen ligand for Cm3+ by -24.7 kJ mol-1.

A simple and efficient three components domino reaction of γ-butyrolactam (2-pyrrolidinone), aromatic aldehyde and substituted thiophenol catalyzed by elemental iodine resulted in the formation of 1-((phenylthio)(phenyl)methyl)pyrrolidin-2-one derivatives. The stability of the synthesized analogues was evaluated in stimulated gastric fluid (SGF) and bovine serum albumin (BSA). In vitro anticancer activity was investigated in the low micromolar range and a few analogues were found to possess good activity. This current protocol provides several advantages like shorter reaction time, excellent yield and convenient work-up.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the gastroprotective efficacy of andrographolide isolated from Andrographis paniculata in rats induced with duodenal ulcers. Duodenal ulcers were induced by cysteamine administration in rats pretreated with 3 mg kg⁻¹ BW day⁻¹ of andrographolide for 30 days. Ulcer score, myeloperoxidase activity, TBARS level, GSH/GSSG ratio and enzyme antioxidants were measured in the duodenal tissue. Brush border and basolateral membranes were isolated to assay sucrase, maltase, alkaline phosphatase and total ATPases. Ulcer score was significantly minimised in rats pretreated with andrographolide. Elevation in myeloperoxidase and TBARS levels were found to be minimised significantly due to andrographolide treatment. Membrane-bound enzyme activities and the thiol redox status of glutathione were significantly maintained in duodenal mucosa of rats that received andrographolide. This study reveals that the major component of A. paniculata, andrographolide, has potent antiulcer properties that are most likely caused by minimising inflammatory changes, counteracting free radical formation and maintaining the thiol redox status in the duodenum.

In the title 2H-pyrazolo-[4,3-c]pyridine derivative, C(32)H(27)Cl(2)N(3), the dihydro-pyrazole ring adopts an envelope conformation and the piperidine fused ring a twisted-chair conformation. Two short intra-molecular C-H⋯Cl contacts are observed. The crystal packing is characterized by dimeric C-Cl⋯π inter-actions involving the 5-benzyl ring, with Cl⋯centroid and closest atomic Cl⋯π distances of 3.778 (2) and 3.366 (4) Å, respectively.

In the title compound, C(27)H(21)NO(2), the half-chair conformation of the alicyclic rings gives rise to a slightly folded structure of the central tricyclic tetra-hydrophenanthridine unit. Tandem intra-molecular O-H⋯N and O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds give rise to adjacent S(6) and S(5) rings, respectively, which dictate the conformation of the 5-aryl substituent. In the crystal structure, an inter-molecular C-H⋯O contact generates chains parallel to [101]. Short O-H⋯π and C-H⋯π contacts are also observed.

In the title compound C(32)H(31)NO(3), the all-yloxy groups on either side of the piperidin-4-one ring are conformationally disordered. The contribution of major and minor components of the allyloxy group at the 3rd position of the ring are 0.576 (4) and 0.424 (4), respectively, and those at the 5th position are 0.885 (3) and 0.115 (3), respectively. The six-membered piperidin-4-one ring adopts a sofa conformation with the benzyl group occupying an equatorial position and the olefinic double bonds possessing an E configuration. Flanking phenyl substituents are stretched out on either side of the six-membered ring. π-π inter-actions with a centroid-centroid distance of 3.885 (1) Å give rise to mol-ecular dimers and short C-H⋯π contacts lead to chains along the c axis.

In the title compound, C(26)H(23)NO, C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds generate a ribbon structure along the a axis. These ribbons further assemble into a one-dimensional sheet parallel to the ac plane via C-H⋯π inter-actions. The piperidin-4-one ring adopts a sofa conformation with the 1-benzyl group in the equatorial position, and the 3- and 5-phenyl substituents stretched out on either side. The benzyl-idene units adopt E configurations and the 1-benzyl group is disposed towards the 3- substituent of the piperidin-4-one ring.

The inversion-related mol-ecules of the title compound, C(26)H(21)F(2)NO, associate into closed dimeric subunits via co-operative C-H⋯π inter-actions. Two non-classical C-H⋯O and one C-H⋯N intra-molecular hydrogen bonds are also found in the crystal structure. The piperidin-4-one ring adopts a sofa conforamtion with the 1-benzyl group in the equatorial position, and the equiplanar fluoro-phenyl substituents in the 3- and 5-positions stretched out on either side. The 1-benzyl group is disposed towards the substituent in the 6th position of the piperidin-4-one ring. The 3,5-diene units possess E configurations.
