9. Identification of the conductivity type of single-walled carbon nanotubes via dual-modulation dielectric force microscopy.

Abstract

The conductivity type is one of the most fundamental transport properties of semiconductors, which is usually identified by fabricating the field-effect transistor, the Hall-effect device, etc. However, it is challenging to obtain an Ohmic contact if the sample is down to nanometer-scale because of the small size and intrinsic heterogeneity. Noncontact dielectric force microscopy (DFM) can identify the conductivity type of the sample by applying a DC gate voltage to the tip, which is effective in tuning the accumulation or depletion of charge carriers. Here, we further developed a dual-modulation DFM, which simplified the conductivity type identification from multiple scan times under different DC gate voltages to a single scan under an AC gate voltage. Taking single-walled carbon nanotubes as testing samples, the semiconducting-type sample exhibits a more significant charge carrier accumulation/depletion under each half-period of the AC gate voltage than the metallic-type sample due to the stronger rectification effect. The charge carrier accumulation or depletion of the p-type sample is opposite to that of the n-type sample at the same half-period of the AC gate voltage because of the reversed charge carrier type. Abstract

Two-dimensional (2D) magnets with intrinsic ferromagnetic/antiferromagnetic (FM/AFM) ordering are highly desirable for future spintronics devices. However, the synthesis of 2D magnetic crystals, especially the direct growth on SiO2/Si substrate, is just in its infancy. Here, we report a chemical vapor deposition (CVD)-based rational growth approach for the synthesis of ultrathin FeTe crystals with controlled structural and magnetic phases. By precisely optimizing the growth temperature (Tgrowth), FeTe nanoplates with either layered tetragonal or non-layered hexagonal phase can be controlled with high-quality. The two controllable phases lead to square and triangular morphologies with a thickness down to 3.6 and 2.8 nm, respectively. More importantly, transport measurements reveal that tetragonal FeTe is antiferromagnetic with a Neel temperature (TN) about 71.8 K, while hexagonal FeTe is ferromagnetic with a Curie temperature (TC) around 220 K. Theoretical calculations indicate that the ferromagnetic order in hexagonal FeTe is originated from a concomitant lattice distortion and the spin-lattice coupling. Abstract

Reducing the lateral scale of two-dimensional (2D) materials to one-dimensional (1D) has attracted substantial research interest not only to achieve competitive electronic device applications but also for the exploration of fundamental physical properties. Controllable synthesis of high-quality 1D nanoribbons (NRs) is thus highly desirable and essential for the further study. Traditional exploration of the optimal synthesis conditions of novel materials is based on the trial-and-error approach, which is time consuming, costly and laborious. Recently, machine learning (ML) has demonstrated promising capability in guiding material synthesis through effectively learning from the past data and then making recommendations. Here, we report the implementation of supervised ML for the chemical vapor deposition (CVD) synthesis of high-quality 1D few-layered WTe2 nanoribbons (NRs). The synthesis parameters of the WTe2 NRs are optimized by the trained ML model. On top of that, the growth mechanism of as-synthesized 1T' few-layered WTe2 NRs is further proposed, which may inspire the growth strategies for other 1D nanostructures. Our findings suggest that ML is a powerful and efficient approach to aid the synthesis of 1D nanostructures, opening up new opportunities for intelligent material development.

Abstract

In recent years, wide‐bandgap semiconductor β‐Ga2O3 material has been widely studied because of its excellent properties. Simultaneously, 2D metal oxides (2DMOs) have also become a focus of research owing to their superior stability and unique physical properties arising from quantum confinement effects. Therefore, the exploration of 2D β‐Ga2O3 is expected to reveal its novel electrical properties in electronic applications. However, the synthesis of high‐quality 2D β‐Ga2O3 remains a formidable challenge. Herein, a confined space is constructed to synthesize high‐quality 2D β‐Ga2O3 nanoflakes by enhancing the control of the kinetics of chemical vapor deposition process. In the device results, it is shown that the grown nanoflakes have excellent switching properties and potential artificial synaptic response characteristics. Based on this premise, an artificial recognition system for handwritten numerals is developed, achieving a peak recognition accuracy of approximately 96%. This system holds significant potential for application within an emerging neuromorphic recognition framework tailored for advanced driver‐assistance systems. In this work, a new feasible pathway is provided for the synthesis of 2D non‐layered oxides and the potential of 2D oxides in the field of neuroanalog electronics and recognition is shown, thereby advancing the fields of 2D β‐Ga2O3 electronics and 2DMOs electronics. 31. A bifunctional wood membrane modified by MoS2/covalent organic framework heterojunctions for effective solar-driven water evaporation and contaminant degradation.

Abstract

Interfacial solar evaporation technology is considered one of the most promising strategies for alleviating the scarcity of freshwater resources. However, solar-driven evaporation technology cannot eliminate the pollutants in the residual wastewater. To solve this problem, we have prepared a two-in-one solar-driven evaporation/photocatalysis system by decorating MoS2/covalent organic framework (COF) heterojunctions on wood (MoS2/COF-wood). Thanks to the unique porous structure of wood, it provides a strong guarantee for water transport and vapor release during the evaporation process. The introduction of MoS2 and COFs can promote the breaking of hydrogen bonds between water molecules, which leads to a significant decrease in the enthalpy of evaporation, achieving a water evaporation rate as high as 2.17 kg m−2 h−1 under 1 sun irradiation. Meanwhile, the resulting MoS2/COF-wood exhibits good salt resistance and reusability. In addition, the heterojunctions formed between COFs and MoS2 can effectively inhibit charge carrier complexation and improve the photocatalytic degradation ability of pollutants (over 99%). Abstract

Transparent wood (TW) combining unique anisotropic structure has broad application prospects in the field of advanced building furniture materials. Many efforts have been made to add quantum dots or nanoparticles to TW to endow it with additional functionality, such as luminescent, electrochromic, and thermochromic TW. However, luminous TW with shape‐editable functionality and its new applications have yet to be explored. Benefiting from the excellent luminescence performance in a diluted solution state, BODIPY (4,4‐difluoro‐4‐bora‐3a,4a‐diazas‐indacene) dyes have been widely used for bio‐sensing and bioimaging. In addition, vitrimers exhibit excellent stimuli‐responsive, shape‐memory, and reprocessing properties thanks to exchangeable dynamic covalent crosslinking networks, which are suitable for fabricating smart TW. Herein, combing these advantages, a dual‐functional transparent wood composite (P‐SEFTW) with photoluminescent and shape editable function was developed by introducing BODIPY dyes and vitrimers into the delignified wood (DW) templates. P‐SEFTW displays good UV luminescence, unique light guiding and directional scattering effects. Meanwhile, it shows excellent shape‐recovery, shape‐programming, shape‐erasing, and re‐programming capability under thermal‐stimulus. 49. Interfacial Electron Transfer in PbI2@Single-Walled Carbon Nanotube van der Waals Heterostructures for High-Stability Self-Powered Photodetectors

Abstract

Acquiring a deep insight into the electron transfer mechanism and applications of one-dimensional (1D) van der Waals heterostructures (vdWHs) has always been a significant challenge. Herein, through direct observation using aberration-corrected transmission electron microscopy (AC-TEM), we verify the stable formation of a high-quality 1D heterostructure composed of PbI2@single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs). The phenomenon of electron transfer between PbI2and SWCNT is elucidated through spectroscopic investigations, including Raman and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Electrochemical testing indicates the electron transfer and enduring stability of 1D PbI2within SWCNTs. Moreover, leveraging the aforementioned electron transfer mechanism, we engineer self-powered photodetectors that exhibit exceptional photocurrent and a 3-order-of-magnitude switching ratio. Subsequently, we reveal its unique electron transfer behavior using Kelvin probe force microscopic (KPFM) tests. According to KPFM, the average surface potential of SWCNTs decreases by 80.6 mV after filling. Theoretical calculations illustrate a charge transfer of 0.02 e per unit cell. This work provides an effective strategy for the in-depth investigation and application of electron transfer in 1D vdWHs.
