This study aims to investigate the validation of the Rapid Interactive Screening Test for Autism in Toddlers (RITA-T) in Turkish toddlers between 18 and 36 months of age. Children aged 18–36 months were referred to the department of child psychiatry for concerns of autism spectrum disorder, language disorder, developmental delay, and typically developing children were enrolled. A total of 81 toddlers participating in the study received clinical interviews according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (5th ed.) and the Childhood Autism Rating Scale. They received the translated RIT-T from reliably trained and blinded providers. Parents completed the Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers form. A cut-off score was calculated based on the sensitivity, specificity, positive, and negative predictive values of the RITA-T total score that best differentiates autism spectrum disorder diagnosis. For all participants, the RITA-T total score correlated with the Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers (r = 0.715) and the Childhood Autism Rating Scale total score (r = 0.825). Using a cut-off score of ⩾17, the RITA-T had a sensitivity of.90 and a specificity of.927 for identifying autism spectrum disorder risk. The area under the curve was.977. Our findings demonstrate that the RITA-T is effective in Turkish toddlers for the early identification of autism spectrum disorder, early intervention settings, and allowing access to treatment. It is important to diagnose autism spectrum disorder at an early age and to start an early intervention program without delay. In this study, we aimed to validate the Rapid Interactive Screening Test for Autism in Toddlers (RITA-T) in a group of Turkish children and found that the RITA-T which has been shown to be a valid and reliable screening test for 18- to 36-month-old children in studies conducted in different countries, is also valid in Turkish children. Similar to previous studies, our results showed that the RITA-T has good sensitivity and specificity in distinguishing children with autism spectrum disorder. We think that our study will contribute to the timely initiation of early intervention programs for many children with autism by enabling a valid test to be used in screening programs. Anxiety comorbidity is quite common in children with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). What is known about the relationship between anxiety, attachment and emotion regulation in such children is still limited. We aimed to investigate the associations between attachment, emotion regulation and comorbid anxiety in children with ADHD. 100 children with ADHD and 100 children without any diagnosis aged 8–13 years were included. After the participants were clinically evaluated, Turgay ADHD Scale, Emotion Regulation Checklist, Revised Child Anxiety and Depression Scale-Child Version (RCADS-CV) and Kerns' Security Scale were completed. According to the RCADS-CV scores, ADHD/ANX(+), ADHD/ANX(−), and control groups were formed. The emotional lability/negativity levels were higher in the ADHD groups compared to the non-ADHD controls. Paternal and maternal attachment security levels were lower in the ADHD/ANX(+) group compared to the controls. The regression analysis indicated that higher hyperactivity/impulsivity symptom levels and lower maternal attachment quality were associated with higher anxiety in children with ADHD. These results suggest that focusing on attachment quality and emotion regulation problems may be significant in management of core symptoms and comorbid anxiety problems in children with ADHD. ATTENTION-deficit hyperactivity disorder ,MEDICAL students ,ACADEMIC achievement ,PROCRASTINATION ,STUDENT volunteers - Abstract
Objective: Procrastination is putting off intended tasks that are necessary to reach a goal. Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is characterized by excessive inattention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity. We aimed to understand the association between academic performance, procrastination, and ADHD. Methods: A group of medical students were screened for procrastination and ADHD by self-report scales. First-, second-, third-, and fourth-year medical students were included in the study. Background information, including birth orders, parents’ education status, department satisfaction, sex, and age, were collected. Tuckman procrastination scale and the adult ADHD self-report scale were applied. Grade point average (GPA) was noted, and it was accepted as an indicator of academic performance. Results: A total of 318 (age: 19.7 ± 1.6; 46% male) volunteer medical students were included. Students with lower GPA had higher tendency to procrastinate than those with high GPA. Even though ADHD self-reported scores were positively correlated with procrastination scores, regression analyses showed that there was no statistically significant association between ADHD symptoms and academic performance. Conclusion: In conclusion, procrastination led to poor academic performance, and nearly half of the students had a tendency to procrastinate. Moreover, students with probable ADHD symptoms tended to procrastinate more. Therefore, students with poor academic performance should be screened for procrastination and ADHD symptoms. SELF-injurious behavior ,SUICIDAL behavior ,SEX crimes - Abstract
Objective: Dissociative symptoms are considered risk factors for suicide and non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI). In this study, the relationship between suicidal behaviors and NSSI with dissociative symptoms in adolescents with a history of Child Sexual Abuse (CSA) was investigated. Methods: A total of 100 adolescents with a history of CSA were evaluated with a detailed forensic psychiatric interview. Dissociative symptoms were measured with the self-report Adolescent Dissociative Experiences Scale (A-DES) and the parent-reported Child Dissociative Checklist (CDC). Results: While dissociative symptoms did not differ between adolescents with and without suicide attempts (CDC; p =.068 and A-DES; p =.060), they were significantly higher in adolescents with non-suicidal self-harming behavior (CDC; p <.001 and A-DES; p =.001). Suicide attempts and NSSI were more common in those who reported genital touching as a type of sexual abuse (respectively, p =.003; p =.048). In regression analysis; history of psychiatric treatment (OR = 9.09 [95% CI = 1.52, 54.29]) and NSSI (OR = 8.18 [95% CI = 2.01, 33.23]) were independently associated with suicide attempts. In addition, parent-reported dissociative symptoms (CDC scores) (OR = 1.27 [95% CI = 1.06, 1.53] and suicide attempt (OR = 8.09 [95%CI = 1.96,33.42] showed independent association with NSSI. Conclusions: Dissociative symptoms may be predictive factors for NSSI and should be considered in risk assessment of adolescents with a history of CSA. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: Social difficulties can affect both academic and relational-social functioning in common neurodevelopmental disorders such as attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder and specific learning disorder. It is known that social cognitive skills directly affect social functioning. The aim in this study is to examine the social cognitive skill of facial emotion recognition in children with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder and specific learning disorder and to investigate whether literacy learning is related to emotion recognition. Methods: In the study, we compared the emotion recognition skill of 41 children with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, 50 with specific learning disorder, and 43 typically developed children using the Reading Mind in the Eyes Test. In addition, we evaluated the relationship between children's emotion recognition ability and literacy learning time. Results: Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder and specific learning disorder groups did not show a statistically significant difference in terms of Reading Mind in the Eyes Test scores, but both groups had lower scores than their typically eveloped peers (P < .001). In addition, we found that low Reading Mind in the Eyes Test scores were associated with late learning in reading and writing (P < .001, r = -.033). Conclusion: This study found that the specific learning disorder and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder groups showed similar but poorer impact recognition skills than their typically developed peers. In addition, we showed that literacy learning speed is related to emotion recognition. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aims: Pandemics can cause substantial psychological distress; however, we do not know the impact of the COVID-19 related lockdown and mental health burden on the parents of school age children. We aimed to comparatively examine the COVID-19 related the stress and psychological burden of the parents with different occupational, locational, and mental health status related backgrounds. Methods: A large-scale multicenter online survey was completed by the parents (n = 3,278) of children aged 6 to 18 years, parents with different occupational (health care workers—HCW [18.2%] vs. others), geographical (İstanbul [38.2%] vs. others), and psychiatric (child with a mental disorder [37.8%]) backgrounds. Results: Multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that being a HCW parent (odds ratio 1.79, p <.001), a mother (odds ratio 1.67, p <.001), and a younger parent (odds ratio 0.98, p =.012); living with an adult with a chronic physical illness (odds ratio 1.38, p <.001), having an acquaintance diagnosed with COVID-19 (odds ratio 1.22, p =.043), positive psychiatric history (odds ratio 1.29, p <.001), and living with a child with moderate or high emotional distress (odds ratio 1.29, p <.001; vs. odds ratio 2.61, p <.001) were independently associated with significant parental distress. Conclusions: Parents report significant psychological distress associated with COVID-19 pandemic and further research is needed to investigate its wider impact including on the whole family unit. - Abstract
Clinical diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) can be conceptualized as the extreme end of the distribution of subclinical autistic traits related to genetic susceptibility factors (broad autism phenotype (BAP)) in the general population. Subclinical autistic traits are significantly more common among unaffected first-degree relatives of probands with autism. However, there is a significant heterogeneity of autistic traits in family members of individuals with ASD and severity of autistic traits are not significantly different from controls in the majority of these relatives. The current study investigated the heterogeneity of autistic traits using latent class analysis (LCA) of the Autism Spectrum Quotient (AQ) ratings of 673 parents of children with ASD and 147 parents of typically developing children. Two distinct subgroups, including a "low-scoring" and a "high-scorer (BAP)" groups, were found. In comparison to control parents, a significantly larger proportion (21.1% vs. 7.5%) of parents of ASD were members of BAP group. Communication subscale made a distinctive contribution to the separation of high and low-scoring groups (d=2.77). Further studies investigating neurobiological and genetic biomarkers and stability of these two subgroups over time are important for understanding the nature of autistic traits in the general population. Introduction: The mechanism of ubiquitination-related abnormalities causing neural development problems is still unclear. We examined the association between autism and serum transactive response DNAbinding protein-43 (TDP-43) and ubiquitin c-terminal hydrolase-L1 (UCH-L1) levels, both of which are members of the ubiquitinproteosome system. Methods: We measured serum levels of TDP-43 and UCH-L1 in 24 children with autism and 24 healthy children. Childhood Autism Rating Scale (CARS) was used to assess symptom severity at admission. Results: The mean serum TDP-43 and UCH-L1 levels in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) were found to decrease compared to healthy controls (p, Amaç: Protein ubikitinlenme ile ilgili bozuklukların nöronal gelişim sorunlarına nasıl yol açtığı açıklanamamıştır.

Neurocognitive deficits detected in bipolar patients have a negative influence on clinical course and severity. We reviewed studies on neurocognitive deficits in euthymic bipolar subjects and their possible neuroanatomical correlates. We also examined studies suggesting deficits seen in euthymic patients may be endophenotypes of the disorder. Results of the studies in euthymic patients and their healthy relatives indicate that have cognitive dysfunctions especially of verbal memory, learning and executive domains, which were found to be related to prefrontal cortex and temporo-limbic circuitry. Longitudinal studies investigating heritability of cognitive impairment in bipolar disorder and its relation with brain connectivity and epigenetic mechanisms are needed. Keywords: Bipolar disorder, neurocognitive deficit, endophenotype, Nörobilişsel defisitlerin bipolar bozukluğun seyri ve ciddiyeti üzerinde belirle-yici olduğu bilinmektedir.

Introduction: The aim of the study is to investigate the relationship between circadian characteristics and behavioral problems in children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) (n=53), and to compare this group with healthy controls (n=38). Method: Fifty-three medication-free children with ADHD, aged 6-12 years, and 38 healthy children, age and sex matched, participated. Parents completed the Conners' Parent Rating Scale-Revised, the Children's Chronotype Questionnaire (CCTQ), and the Children's Sleep Habits Questionnaire (CSHQ) to assess sleep variables. Results: ADHD children had more sleep-onset problems and parasomnias (in CSHQ) compared to healthy controls. However, circadian preferences did not differ between the groups in CCTQ scores. Another important finding was a mild correlation between parasomnia, bedtime on schooldays, and ADHD symptoms. Conclusion: Our study showed that children with ADHD showed more resistance to going to bed than did controls on school days. However, in contrast to our hypothesis, morningness/eveningness preference did not differ from controls in ADHD children. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Anahtar kelimeler: otizm, geniş otizm fenotipi, yüz ifadelerini tanıma, anababa, çocuk Objective: Autism spectrum disorder is a neuropsychiatric disorder defined by the presence of social deficits, communication abnormalities, stereotyped or repetitive behaviors. A number of family and twin studies have suggested that a behavioral phenotype that is qualitatively similar to but more broadly defined than that which defines autism occurs more commonly in relatives of autistic individuals than in the general population. Deficits of emotional face expression was reported in individal with autism spectrum disorder. In recent studies it was shown that parents of autism spectrum disorder patients revealed worse performance with emotional face expression task. In this research, relation between broad autism phenotype and impairment of facial expression of emotion will be studied.Method: Seventy-two parents who had a child with a diagnosis of DSM-IV Autism Spectrum Disorder and thirty-eight parents who had a typically developing child were included in this study. The parents were subsequently assessed for broad autism phenotype by Autism-Spectrum Quotient (ASQ) and Broad Autism Phenotype Questianaire (BAPQ) and for impairment in the recognition of facial expressions by Emotion Recognition Test. Student?s t-test was used to evaluate the differences between the two groups. Results had compared by using ANOVA and ANCOVA.Result: When AQ component `Social skills? results were examined, the social skill scores of parents with autistic children was found signi ? cantly higher (p

Social network sites (SNSs) are relatively new phenomena, and the relationship between SNSs and psychopathology remains unclear. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the type of SNSs depressed adolescents use and the incidence of depressive disclosure on SNSs among them. The study was designed to be cross-sectional. The sample consisted of 53 adolescents diagnosed with depressive disorder, as confirmed by K-SADS-PL, and 55 non-depressed adolescents. The Children’s Depression Inventory, Social Anxiety Scale and Social Network Use Questionnaire were administered. The primary finding was that the amount of time spent on the Internet and on SNSs was significantly higher among depressed adolescents than non-depressed adolescents. Additionally, depressed adolescents reported significantly higher disclosure of anhedonia, worthlessness, guilt, loss of concentration, irritability and thoughts of suicide on SNSs. The intensity of the depression sharing was significantly higher in the depressed group. Depressed young people use social networks to express their symptoms. Adolescents’ disclosure on social networks may be able to guide relatives, friends and mental health professionals. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

Communication subscale made a distinctive contribution to the separation of high and low-scoring groups ( d = 2.77). Further studies investigating neurobiological and genetic biomarkers and stability of these two subgroups over time are important for understanding the nature of autistic traits in the general population.
