Two patients, a 38-year-old woman and, a 74-year-old man, had ulceronodular basal cell carcinoma at the lower eyelid margin, directly opposite a nodular intradermal nevus at the upper lid margin. Both patients had the nevi for decades and the tumors for 2 and 3 years, respectively. The size of the tumors were 9 × 4 mm and 10 × 15 mm. When the eyelids were closed, the nevus corresponded to the ulcerated tumor cavity in both cases. The lesions were excised, and the defects were repaired. It is well-established that chronic mechanical irritation can increase sensitivity to epidermal carcinogenesis. In the cases described here, it remains speculative whether nevus-related trauma on the opposite eyelid played a role in the development of basal cell carcinoma. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper pays attention to the phrase, which could be considered a literary topos, καταφιλῶ τὰ ἴχνη τῶν ποδῶν in Alciphron 3.31 and discusses whether it has only erotic and sexual implications, as it has been suggested. To answer this question, both literary parallels and documentary papyri from antiquity are investigated. They illuminate the phrase’s association with the expression of reverence and modesty and suggest that 3.31 could be considered the first stage of a process of “semantic transvaluation” which led to accept the act of kissing someone’s footprints as a component of late antique proskynesis. Introduction: Excessive stent strut protrusion in the distal left main (LM) from either the left anterior descending (LAD) or circumflex (Cx) artery following inadequate ostial stenting may complicate any later procedure involving the left coronary artery. In such case scenarios, intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) guidance provides accurate assessment of the ostial stent position and may facilitate subsequent management strategies and treatment. Case summary: We present a complex percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) of LM bifurcation in a 49-year-old man following inadequate ostial Cx stenting that resulted in excessive stent protrusion in the distal LM segment, accompanied by a subsequent short 80–90% ostial LAD stenosis. Initially, IVUS was performed to confirm "floating struts" from a previous Cx ostial stenting and to ensure complete intraluminal placement of the wire within the stent leading to the Cx, precluding any side passage through the stent struts. Then, a second wire was inserted into the LAD through the most distal stent strut under live IVUS guidance. Further PCI was completed according to the principles of the double kissing mini-culotte technique. Final IVUS runs confirmed correct stent apposition and expansion in the LM, LAD and Cx segments. Conclusions: In cases involving the treatment of "free-floating" struts in the distal LM artery, intravascular imaging is essential to ensure optimal PCI outcomes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Many lateral biases exist in human behavior, often implicit and not deliberated. Romantic kissing and embracing received experimental attention in the last three decades. We investigated laterality in paintings depicting these social interactions using two methodologies to assess whether painters depicted such biases and whether these biases could be due to observers’ aesthetic preferences or painters’ ability in portraying naturalistic interactions. In Study 1, we inspected about 190,000 artworks available online to classify leftward and rightward biases in romantic kisses and embraces. The comparison of 103 paintings depicting clearly lateralized interactions revealed a significant rightward bias in romantic kissing (66%) and a trend toward a leftward bias (62%) for embraces, aligning with naturalistic studies of human interactions. In Study 2, 128 participants expressed their aesthetic preference between the paintings selected in Study 1 and their vertically mirrored versions. A preference for the original paintings over their mirrored versions emerged, especially when presented in the upper portion of the screen, but no significant preference for the typical lateralization of kissing and embracing was found. These findings suggest that artists’ alignment with naturalistic biases could be due to familiarity and exposure to asymmetric interactions rather than observers’ aesthetic preferences. This article queries the revision of techno-Orientalist tropes in Larissa Lai's 2018 novel The Tiger Flu, focusing primarily on how Lai repossesses the figure of the Asian female clone and imagines her as a formidable site of radical feminist, decolonial, and anti-capitalist knowledge in a time of planetary erosion and pandemic. I posit that Lai breaks the lineage of techno-Orientalist formations through the survivalist impulses of the Grist Sisters, a species of bioengineered clone factory workers, who move towards abolition from capitalism and compulsory heterosexuality by developing autonomous practices of reproduction, organ transplantation, and intergenerational storytelling. Through the Grist Sisters' physical and symbolic acts of interdependent reliance and survival, Lai forges multispecies intimacies and embodiments as exertions of a radical politics of care that includes Asian American "women." The current study analyzed the effect of virtual reality-based intervention on depression and quality of life in stroke patients. Databases (National Assembly Library, DBpia, RISS, KISS) were searched to extract studies for meta-analysis by using the PICOS framework. From this procedure, two dissertations and five journal articles were selected for the literature on the effect on depression, and four dissertations and three journal articles were selected for the literature on the effect on quality of life. The R program(ver.4.0.5) meta-analysis package was used to calculate the effect sizes for depression and quality of life. Results using random-effects model indicated that the effect size of depression was -0.82 (95 % CI=-1.29, -0.35), which was a large effect size, and also the effect size of quality of life was 1.12 (95 % CI=0.56, 1.67), showing a large effect size. The current study concluded that VR-based intervention has positive effect on depression and quality of life in stroke patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Inconsistency of sexual definitions may lead to misunderstandings when evaluating research data or delivering health education. Diverse sexual definitions are especially common with unidirectional genital contacts (only one participant is involved with their genitals). Our aim was to analyze sexual definitions of adolescents and the role of age, gender, previous sexual experience, anxiety, and body image as possible determinants of unidirectional intimate behavior definitions. Methods: Pooled cross-sectional survey data of 9th-grade Hungarian students (n = 612, mean age = 16.1 years, range from 15 to 18 years) were used from the baseline assessment (conducted in 2019 and 2020) of the Balassagyarmat Health Education Program. Our questionnaire was based on the Sexual Definitions Survey. The associations of definition of manual and oral stimulation with gender, age, sexual experience, trait anxiety, and body image were further examined in a multilevel logistic regression model. Results: The rating of different sexual behaviors as sex showed a hierarchy from kissing (10.3%) to vaginal intercourse (98.5%). Manual and oral stimulation was claimed to be sex by 73.4% and 84.3% of students. Girls (OR = 0.40; CI = 0.25–0.62) and older participants (OR = 0.75; CI = 0.59–0.96) were less likely to consider manual stimulation as sex. Conversely, previous sexual experience, anxiety, and body image were not significant predictors. Conclusions: Our study is the first to investigate sexual definitions among non-English-speaking adolescents. It contributes to the understanding of ambiguity regarding the definitions of oral and manual stimulation in this specific age group. Policy implications: As adolescents are the primary focus of sexual education, policies should take into consideration the semantic differences in sexual definitions, as these may influence the participants' interpretation of information and have an effect on their sexual behavior. Background Prolonged antiplatelet-agent administration associated with stenting for acute myocardial infarction is not ideal in young patients. We successfully performed a perfusion balloon-based kissing balloon technique in the left anterior descending artery ostium in a young patient with acute myocardial infarction. Case summary A 34-year-old female presenting with recurrent chest pain was diagnosed with ST-segment elevation acute myocardial infarction. Emergency coronary angiography revealed 90% stenosis of the left anterior descending artery ostium. Considering her age, lesion dilation using a perfusion balloon was preferred. This inadvertently impinged the left circumflex artery, causing chest pain and ischaemia-related hypotension with only a 10 s perfusion dilation balloon. We transitioned to an alternative 7 Fr guiding catheter and performed the kissing balloon technique using a perfusion balloon. This allowed prolonged inflation for 120 s, without complications. Optical coherence tomography of the lesion revealed layered plaques. Based on the patient's age and medical history, coronary spasm may be the aetiological factor underlying acute ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction. Coronary angiography 3 months post-discharge revealed no restenosis. Discussion Regarding acute myocardial infarction, prolonged inflation with a perfusion balloon had higher frequency of non-stent-related interventions than that of semi-compliant or non-compliant balloons. In this case, the perfusion balloon resulted in chest pain and hypotension. Perfusion balloon-based kissing balloon technique was useful in this setting. Optical coherence tomography revealing the responsible lesions can help determine the cause of acute myocardial infarction in young patients; in our case, a layered plaque was observed. Several indigenous swamp fish species have been successfully domesticated and cultivated by fish farmers in Sumatera, Indonesia. However, the hatching phase in hatcheries commonly encounters fungal infections attributed to Saprolegnia sp. This study investigates the efficacy of betel leaf extract in protecting the eggs of kissing gourami and climbing perch from saprolegniasis. Mimicking natural infection conditions, all eggs were exposed to 5 artificially infected eggs per tank. Prior to infection, the water was treated with betel leaf extract at various concentrations. Results indicate that betel leaf extract significantly protects the eggs from this fungal infection. For the climbing perch, the optimal dosage was determined to be 300 mg L-1, resulting in a hatching rate of 90% and a prevalence rate of 10%. For the kissing gourami, the optimal dosage was found to be 120 mg L-1, resulting in a hatching rate of 86.66% and a prevalence rate of 13.34%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article offers a descriptive account of seven interjections, eish, yho, tjo, sho, hayi, hau, and mxm, which are adopted from different local South African languages into South African English. It investigates the frequencies, orthography, syntactic position, collocational forms and discourse-pragmatic roles of these seven interjections, through the lens of pragmatic borrowing and postcolonial corpus pragmatics. The data were retrieved from the South African segment of the Global Web-based English corpus and underwent quantitative and qualitative analysis. The findings indicate that the interjections are all emotive interjections, which mostly express negative emotions, except hayi, which is a phatic interjection that is largely used to show disapproval of some information. All the interjections favour clause-initial position except mxm, which is a loan interjection that represents the kiss-teeth or suck-teeth oral gesture that is common in some parts of Africa and the Caribbean. What does political concern with ‘mixed’ intimacies articulate about the nation? This article unpacks this question by analysing a Dutch poster campaign on self-determination, organized by the Rotterdam municipality and a feminist NGO, that visualized ‘mixed’ couples intimately kissing. It uses a visual analysis of the posters, combined with a post-structural policy analysis of a variety of documents that were essential to the production of this campaign. First, the article argues that the campaign centred on the racialized figure of the Muslim woman, problematizing her self-determination through a framework of liberal-secular notions of freedom and agency. Then, by historicizing the Dutch preoccupation with ‘mixed’ intimacies as a mode of (colonial) governance, the article accounts for how the campaign engages with particular kinds of ‘mixing’ to underscore Dutch sexual exceptionalism. The article argues the campaign can be seen as part of the contemporary configuration of the Dutch ‘Muslim Question’, mobilizing the intimate lives of racialized Muslim women to problematize Muslims as deviant populations. Overall, this article explores how representations of, and discourses on ‘mixed’ intimacies can be used as prisms to study the gendered and racialized state management of population, as well as (shifting) imaginaries of the nation in the Netherlands. This paper deals with the weeping of football players and fans during a game when some unexpected or extremely emotional event occurs, such as winning the championship, or being demoted to a lower division. Several decades ago, neither players nor fans dared to express their emotions by weeping in public, nor by hugging and kissing. Football (soccer) was considered 'a man's game' and men don't cry. In victory or in failure men restrain themselves – they did not shed tears. In recent decades things changed. When an extreme event occurs on the pitch, players and/or fans express their emotions and weep in public. This behavioural change on the football pitch seems to stem from changes in the cultural environment: The macho man skin has gotten thinner. The 'new man', the metrosexual, has replaced the 'old man'; he is now allowed, even encouraged, to cry. The case study for this paper is the specific event of Hapoel Beer Sheva F.C. game in May 1998, where the result would decide whether the team survives in the senior division or be demoted to the second one. The club lost in the nineteenth minute. A heavy silence descended upon the terraces. The players collapsed on the pitch, covering their faces with their hands.
