In the title molecule, C25H29N5O, the dihydroquinoxaline unit is not quite planar (r.m.s. deviation = 0.030 Å) as there is a dihedral angle of 2.69 (3)° between the mean planes of the constituent rings and the molecule adopts a hairpin conformation. The benzyl group is rotated well out of this plane by 73.64 (6)°, giving the molecule an approximate L shape. In the crystal, C—H...π(ring) interactions and C—H...S hydrogen bonds form tubes extending along the a axis. Furthermore, there are π–π interactions between parallel phenyl rings with centroid-to-centroid distances of 3.8418 (12) Å. A Hirshfeld surface analysis of the crystal structure indicates that the most important contributions to the crystal packing are from H...H (47.0%), H...N/N...H (17.6%) and H...C/C...H (17.0%) interactions. The volume of the crystal voids and the percentage of free space were calculated to be 76.45 Å3 and 6.39%, showing that there is no large cavity in the crystal packing. Evaluation of the electrostatic, dispersion and total energy frameworks indicate that the cohesion of the crystal structure is dominated by the dispersion energy contributions.

Ethyl 2-[(2-oxo-2H-chromen-6-yl)oxy]acetate, C13H12O5, a member of the pharmacologically important class of coumarins, crystallizes in the monoclinic C2/c space group in the form of sheets, within which molecules are related by inversion centers and 21 axes. Multiple C—H...O weak hydrogen-bonding interactions reinforce this pattern. The planes of these sheets are oriented in the approximate direction of the ac face diagonal. Intersheet interactions are a combination of coumarin system π–π stacking and additional C—H...O weak hydrogen bonds between ethyl acetoxy groups.

In the title compound, C31H24N4O2, the dihydroquinoxaline units are both essentially planar with the dihedral angle between their mean planes being 64.82 (4)°. The attached phenyl rings differ significantly in their rotational orientations with respect to the dihydroquinoxaline planes. In the crystal, one set of C—H...O hydrogen bonds form chains along the b-axis direction, which are connected in pairs by a second set of C—H...O hydrogen bonds. This work describes the synthesis, characterization, and in vitro and in silico evaluation of the biological activity of new functionalized isoxazole derivatives. The structures of all new compounds were analyzed by IR and NMR spectroscopy. The structures of 4c and 4f were further confirmed by single crystal X-ray and their compositions unambiguously determined by mass spectrometry (MS). The antibacterial effect of the isoxazoles was assessed in vitro against Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, and Staphylococcusaureus bacterial strains. Isoxazole 4a showed significant activity against E. coli and B. subtilis compared to the reference antibiotic drugs while 4d and 4f also exhibited some antibacterial effects. The molecular docking results indicate that the synthesized compounds exhibit strong interactions with the target proteins. Specifically, 4a displayed a better affinity for E. coli, S. aureus, and B. subtilis in comparison to the reference drugs. The molecular dynamics simulations performed on 4a strongly support the stability of the ligand–receptor complex when interacting with the active sites of proteins from E. coli, S. aureus, and B. subtilis. Lastly, the results of the Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism, Excretion and Toxicity Analysis (ADME-Tox) reveal that the molecules have promising pharmacokinetic properties, suggesting favorable druglike properties and potential therapeutic agents.

Ten new isatin derivatives (2–11) were synthesized by alkylation reactions under phase transfer catalysis (PTC) conditions. Structural characterization of all compounds was performed using 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy. The molecular and crystal structures of three compounds (4, 7, and 8) were confirmed through single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Spectral data were also calculated using density function theory (DFT) at the B3LYP/6–311++G(d, p) level and compared to the experimental results, to understand the non-binding intermolecular interactions in the solid phase crystal packing. The closest contacts between atoms of the three molecules studied were identified by 2D and 3D Hirshfeld surface analyses. The structures of 4, 7 and 8 are optimized and their HOMO and LUMO energies, as well as their orbital pictures were evaluated. The experimental results correlated well with the calculated results. Finally, molecular docking studies of 4, 7 and 8 were performed to investigate their binding patterns with inhibitory targets from the Protein Data Bank (PDB: 3G7B and PDB: 3T0T using the AutoDock Vina program. The antibacterial activities of 2–11 against Gram-positive and Gram-negative microbial strains, such as Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa were evaluated, and the findings indicated that 4 and 8 exhibited the highest efficacy, as reflected in their minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) values.

Isoquinoline and its derivatives, which constitute an important category of heterocyclic compounds and are found in a variety of naturally occurring alkaloids, serve a variety of biological purposes such as a potent agonist for human melatonin receptors 1. This research was conducted in an attempt to develop new dihydroisoquinoline molecules (III and IV). Single-crystal X-ray crystallography study validated their structures. The Hirshfeld surface analysis identifies intermolecular interactions by using a 2-D fingerprint map to recognize each type's relative contribution H⋅⋅⋅H connections are discovered to be dominating. The interaction energies between chemical pairs in crystal structures were found using an energy framework analysis. The DFT investigation demonstrates the electronic stability and reactivity of the compounds using the HOMO-LUMO and global reactivity descriptors, indicating that IV has higher chemical reactivity than III. The derived polarizability (αo) and hyperpolarizability (βo) values were used to calculate the optical and nonlinear optical characteristics of III and IV. The IV's significant βo value (488.94 au) indicates that it has good optical and NLO qualities. Molecular docking simulation using human melatonin receptors 1 was used to better understand the binding interaction mechanism of the title compounds. In addition, ADMET evaluations were performed to establish the therapeutic potential of III and IV.

The conformation of each component is approximately U-shaped with the chlorobenzene ring forming the base and the indolinyl and sulfamoyl groups the sides; an intramolecular C—H...Cl hydrogen bond possibly contributes to the stabilization of the conformation. In the crystal, a corrugated layer structure parallel to the ab plane is formed by C—H...O and C—H...Cl hydrogen bonds together with C—H...π(ring) interactions.

In the title molecule, C7H6N4O3, the bicyclic ring system is planar with the carboxymethyl group inclined by 81.05 (5)° to this plane. Evaluations of the electrostatic, dispersion and total energy frameworks indicate that the stabilization is dominated via dispersion energy contributions. Moreover, the optimized molecular structure, using density functional theory (DFT) at the B3LYP/6–311G(d,p) level, was compared with the experimentally determined one. The HOMO–LUMO energy gap was determined and the molecular electrostatic potential (MEP) surface was calculated at the B3LYP/6–31G level to predict sites for electrophilic and nucleophilic attacks.

The cup-shaped conformation of the title molecule, C21H22N2O4, is largely determined by an intramolecular N—H...O hydrogen bond. In the crystal, double layers of molecules are formed by O—H...O and C—H...O hydrogen bonds. In the title compound, C24H23FN4O4S·0.25H2O, the dihydropyrimidine ring is distinctly non-planar, with the flap C atom deviating by 0.297 (2) Å from the least-squares plane. In this work, a new compound, 2-(N-allylsulfamoyl)-N-propylbenzamide, has been synthesized via a tandem one-pot reaction under sonication. The rotational orientations of the allylsulfamoyl and the amide groups in the title molecule, C13H18N2O3S, are partly determined by an intramolecular N—H···O hydrogen bond. In the crystal, a layer structure is generated by N—H···O and C—H···O hydrogen bonds plus C—H···π (ring) interactions. A Hirshfeld surface analysis indicates that the most important contributions to crystal packing are from H···H (59.2%), H···O/O···H (23.5%), and H···C/C···H (14.6%) interactions. The optimized structure calculated using density functional theory at the B3LYP/6–311 G (d,p) level is compared with the experimentally determined structure in the solid state. The calculated highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) and lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) energy gap is 5.3828 eV.

The triazole ring in the title molecule, C9H10N4O, is not quite coplanar with the six-membered ring to which it is fused, the dihedral angle between the two least-squares planes being 2.52 (6)°. In the crystal, a layered structure is formed by N—H...N and C—H...O hydrogen bonds plus slipped π-stacking interactions, with the fused cyclohexene rings projecting to either side.

In the present work, we describe the extraction of a natural product namely 1,4,9,9-tetramethyloctahydro-4,7-(epoxymethano)azulen-5(1H)-one, and its structure was confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The conformations of the 5-, 6-, and 7-membered rings in the title compound, C15H24O2, have been probed by a Cremer-Pople puckering analysis. C—H···O hydrogen bonds generate chains in the crystal that stretch along the c-axis direction. The Hirshfeld surface analysis method was used to stabilize the crystal packing of the natural compound. Accompanied by experimental studies, quantum chemical calculations were also performed to compare the structural elucidation and the results of these geometrical parameters exhibited excellent agreement. The compound was also docked with several drug targets of the SARS-CoV-2 virus and found to show the best binding with the main protease enzyme, having a binding energy of −12.31 kcal/mol and interacting with His41 and Cys145 residues. The dynamic stability deciphered the complex to be stable with an average RMSD of 3.8 Å. The compound dynamics with the enzyme showed the compound conformation to be highly stable. This study investigated the crystallographic and electronic properties of 1,5-benzodiazepine compounds, namely: cis-(3S,4S)-3-hydroxy-7,8-dimethyl-4-phenyl-1,3,4,5-tetrahydro-1,5-benzodiazepin-2-one 3b, trans-(3R,4R)-1-ethyl-3-hydroxy-7,8-dimethyl-4-phenyl-1,3,4,5-tetrahydro-2H-1,5-benzodiazepin-2-one 4, and trans-(3S,4S) 1-ethyl-3-ethoxy-7,8-dimethyl-4-phenyl-1,3,4,5-tetrahydro-1,5-benzodiazepin-2-one 5. Hirshfeld surface analysis was also applied to discern the intermolecular interactions, highlighting the significance of hydrogen bonding, van der Waals forces, and the influence of specific substituents. Furthermore, the MESP maps created using the density functional theory revealed the electrostatic nature of these molecules. The absence of dark blue regions on the MESP maps and variations due to different functional groups and substitutions were noteworthy findings. Collectively, this research offers crucial insights into the behaviour, interactions, and potential applications of new compounds. Finally, the anticancer effects of compounds 3b, 4, and 5 were evaluated against three cancer cell lines and one normal cell line, and the results showed that 3b and 4 had potent antiproliferative effects against all three cancer cell lines.

The present study elaborates on the synthesis, crystal structure, and computational studies of two new ionic liquids. In the crystal structure, [C5H12N][C21H14ClN2O2S] (4a), the anions form chains along the a-axis direction through C—H···π(ring) interactions. These are connected into layers that run approximately parallel to the ac plane by a variety of hydrogen bonds. In the compound structure, [C5H12N][C18H15N2O2S] (4b), the two ions are primarily associated by an N—H···N hydrogen bond. In the crystal structure, layers parallel to the bc plane are formed by pairs of C—H···O and N—H···S hydrogen bonds and by C—H···π(ring) interactions. A theoretical study reveals that 4a has lower energy than 4b and is more stable. The NBO and DOS studies further confine the liquids’ structural reactivity and electronic properties. The quantum theory of atoms in a molecule (QTAIM) analysis reveals the important non-covalent interactions among the fragments and charge transfer. The global reactivity descriptors indicate their molecular reactivity relationship with the presence of functional groups. The remarkable polarizability (αo) and hyperpolarizability (βo) values indicate their optical and nonlinear optical (NLO) properties. Furthermore, the analysis performed by CrystalExplorer shows the intermolecular interactions and reactive sites between cations and anions in ionic liquids. The 2D fingerprint plots and Hirshfeld surfaces indicate the major interactions of crystals with neighboring elements in crystal packing. For both compounds, the H···H interactions are significantly higher than the other element interactions.

In the title molecule, C9H10ClNO2, the methoxy group lies very close to the plane of the phenyl ring while the acetamido group is twisted out of this plane by 28.87 (5)°. In the crystal, a three-dimensional structure is generated by N—H...O, C—H...O and C—H...Cl hydrogen bonds plus C—H...π(ring) interactions. A Hirshfeld surface analysis of the intermolecular interactions was performed and indicated that C...H/H...C interactions make the largest contribution to the surface area (33.4%).

The quinoxaline moiety in the title molecule, C18H17N3O2, is not quite planar and the p-tolyl group is rotationally disordered over two nearly equally populated sets of sites. In the crystal, N—H...O and C—H...O hydrogen bonds form chains extending along the b-axis direction. Due to the disorder of the p-tolyl rings, short C...C distances are observed between adjacent chains.

The quinoxaline unit in the title molecule, C18H16N4O5, is slightly puckered [dihedral angle between the rings = 2.07 (12)°] while the whole molecule adopts an L-shaped conformation. Intramolecular hydrogen bonding determines the orientation of the substituted phenyl ring and the amide nitrogen atom is almost planar. The packing in the crystal is governed by C—H...O hydrogen bonds and slipped π-stacking interactions.

In the title molecule, C17H16N2OS, the dihydroimidazolone ring is slightly puckered and the methylsulfanyl group is nearly coplanar with it. In the crystal, two sets of C—H...O hydrogen bonds form corrugated layers of molecules parallel to the ac plane. The layers pack with normal van der Waals contacts between them.

In the title compound, C12H10ClNO3, the dihydroquinoline moiety is not planar with a dihedral angle between the two ring planes of 1.61 (6)°. An intramolecular C—H...O hydrogen bond helps to establish the rotational orientation of the carboxyl group. In the crystal, sheets of molecules parallel to (10\overline{1}) are generated by C—H...O and C—H...Cl hydrogen bonds, and are stacked through slipped π-stacking interactions between inversion-related dihydroquinoline units. A Hirshfeld surface analysis of the crystal structure indicates that the most important contributions for the crystal packing are from H...H (34.2%), H...O/O...H (19.9%), H...Cl/Cl...H (12.8%), H...C/C...H (10.3%) and C...C (9.7%) interactions. Computational chemistry indicates that in the crystal, the C—H...Cl hydrogen-bond energy is −37.4 kJ mol−1, while the C—H...O hydrogen-bond energies are −45.4 and −29.2 kJ mol−1. An evaluation of the electrostatic, dispersion and total energy frameworks revealed that the stabilization is dominated via the dispersion energy contribution. Density functional theory (DFT) optimized structures at the B3LYP/6–311 G(d,p) level are compared with the experimentally determined molecular structure in the solid state, and the HOMO—LUMO behaviour was elucidated to determine the energy gap.

In the title molecule, C25H28N2O5S, (alternative name ethyl 2-{[7-acetyl-4-cyano-6-hydroxy-8-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1,6-dimethyl-5,6,7,8-tetrahydroisoquinolin-3-yl]sulfanyl}acetate) the 4-methoxyphenyl group is disposed on one side of the bicyclic core and the oxygen atoms of the hydroxyl and acetyl groups are disposed on the other side. In the crystal, a layered structure parallel to the ac plane is generated by O—H...O and C—H...O hydrogen bonds plus C—H...π(ring) interactions.

The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C25H21N3O2S, comprises four molecules. Their conformations differ primarily in the orientations of the styryl and the N-phenylcarboxamido groups. In the crystal, intermolecular N—H...N, C—H...O and C—H...S hydrogen-bonding contacts as well a C—H...π(ring) interactions lead to the formation of a layer structure parallel to (010). Hirshfeld surface analysis revealed that H...H interactions represent the main contributions to the crystal packing.

This study focuses on the synthesis, theoretical analysis, and application of the corrosion inhibitor known as benzimidazolone, specifically 1-(cyclohex-1-enyl)-1,3-dihydro-2H-benzimiazol-2-one (CHBI). The structure of CHBI was determined by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The inhibitory properties of CHBI were investigated in a 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution on pure copper using various electrochemical techniques such as potentiodynamic polarization curves (PDPs) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), as well as scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDX), UV-visible spectroscopy, and theoretical calculations. The obtained results indicate that CHBI is an excellent inhibitor, exhibiting remarkable effectiveness with an inhibition rate of 86.49% at 10−3 M. To further confirm the extent of adsorption of the inhibitory molecule on the copper surface, density functional theory (DFT) and Monte Carlo (MC) simulation studies were conducted. The results of this study demonstrate the synthesis and characterization of CHBI as a corrosion inhibitor. The experimental and theoretical analyses provide valuable insights into the inhibitory performance of CHBI, indicating its strong adsorption on the copper surface.

A retro-Claisen reaction of 1-(4-oxo-4H-pyrido [1,2-a]pyrimidin-3-yl)butane-1,3-dione, 3, in the presence of potassium hydroxide and 4-dimethylamino-pyridine has been carried out, leading to 4-(dimethylamino)pyridin-1-ium 2-methyl-4-oxo-pyrido [1,2-a]pyrimidine-3-carboxylate 5. A plausible mechanism explaining the formation of the title compound has been proposed. A single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis confirms the crystal structure of the isolated organic salt (5). In the crystal, the title compound adopts a layered structure where there are stacks of cations and anions formed by slipped π-stacking interactions. These stacks are linked by regions consisting of water molecules that are hydrogen-bonded together. DFT and Hirshfeld surface analysis supported the experimental results of the molecular geometry and the intercontacts between different units in the crystal. The druglikeness, ADMET properties, and predicted targets were investigated, and the observed results suggest that 5 may act as a carbonic anhydrase I inhibitor. The assumption is confirmed by docking 5 into the active binding site of carbonic anhydrase, which shows it to have good binding affinities and to form stable complexes with the active residues of carbonic anhydrase I.

An efficient pathway was disclosed for the synthesis of 3-chloro-6-nitro-1H-indazole derivatives by 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition on dipolarophile compounds 2 and 3. Faced the problem of separation of two regioisomers, a click chemistry method has allowed us to obtain regioisomers of triazole-1,4 with good yields from 82 to 90% were employed. Also, the antileishmanial biological potency of the compounds was achieved using an MTT assay that reported compound 13 as a promising growth inhibitor of Leishmania major. Molecular docking demonstrated highly stable binding with the Leishmania trypanothione reductase enzyme and produced a network of hydrophobic and hydrophilic interactions. Molecular dynamics simulations were performed for TryR-13 complex to understand its structural and intermolecular affinity stability in a biological environment. The studied complex remained in good equilibrium with a structure deviation of ∼1–3 Å. MM/GBSA binding free energies illustrated the high stability of TryR-13 complex. The studied compounds are promising leads for structural optimisation to enhance the antileishmanial activity.

The imidazolidine ring in the title molecule, C17H15BrN2O2, is slightly ruffled [r.m.s. deviation = 0.0192 Å], while the attached phenyl rings at the C atom at the position between the amine and carbonyl centres are rotated well out of its mean plane [dihedral angles with the imidazolidine ring = 63.60 (8) and 76.4 (1)°]. In the crystal, a three-dimensional network features N—H...O and C—H...O hydrogen bonds together with C—H...π(ring) interactions.
