Abstract Based on a field monitored dataset measured at landfill #1 over 21 years, the characteristics of settlement coupling mechanical creep and biodegradation and the residual settlement were analyzed. Since landfill #1 is a multi-stage municipal solid waste (MSW) landfill where dykes are constructed after landfilling for subsequent waste fills, the waste decomposition between the lower and upper lifts was quite different and it is difficult to discern between the mechanical creep and bio-compression on the settlement curves. The compression ratio coupled with mechanical creep and bio-compression and the residual compression ratio were determined as 0.233 and 0.068, respectively. This implies that biodegradation was gradually and significantly reduced in the MSW settlement behavior after the residual settlement began. The starting date of residual settlement was distributed between 3821 and 5402 days from the initial date of landfilling. The settlement coupling mechanical creep and biodegradation (S MB) was 2.9 times larger than the residual settlement (S RS), and the duration of S MB is determined to be 0.3 times that of S RS. In addition, the remnant methane gas content existed in the landfill gas, and low-level biodegradation was still generated in the waste buried for more than 10 years after the residual settlement began.

Corona pandemic restricted industrial activity of the country, influenced social activities of people, and changed students' school programs. PM10 and PM2.5 measured in National Air Quality Monitoring Systems were reduced from 36.1 μg/m3 to 34.5 μg/m3, and from 20.3 μg/m3 to 18.5 μg/m3, respectively. In particular, obvious decrease of indoor PM2.5 with high dependency on outdoor air quality was estimated. As a result of precise field tests in 179 classrooms of 53 schools, indoor PM2.5 showed a low average, 23 μg/m3, and PM10 also was lower 33 μg/m3 than before and after the pandemic (51 μg/m3 and 59 μg/m3 respectively). Due to a variety of class work, limited attendance, air purifier operation and frequent window opening, it was not easy to drive a consistent impact of the Corona pandemic at the indoor PM level. Consequently, the indoor and outdoor airborne fine dust concentrations became more similar than normal conditions, and indoor emission amount of PM10 in particular decreased.

Chronic wounds represent a major health risk for diabetic patients. Regeneration of such wounds requires regular medical treatments over periods that can extend for several months or more. Schemes for monitoring the healing process can provide important feedback to the patient and caregiver. Although qualitative indicators such as malodor or fever can provide some indirect information, quantitative measurements of the wound bed have the potential to yield important insights. The work presented here introduces materials and engineering designs for a wireless system that captures spatio-temporal temperature and thermal transport information across the wound continuously throughout the healing process. Systematic experimental and computational studies establish the materials aspects and basic capabilities of this technology. In vivo studies reveal that both the temperature and the changes in this quantity offer information on wound status, with indications of initial exothermic reactions and mechanisms of scar tissue formation. Bioresorbable materials serve as the foundations for versions of this device that create possibilities for monitoring on and within the wound site, in a way that bypasses the risks of physical removal.

Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of Bee Venom and Sweet Bee Venom to the primary cultured preadipocyte, adipocytes, and localized fat tissue. Methods : Decreased preadipocyte proliferation and decreased lipogenesis are mechanisms to reduce obesity. So, preadipocytes and adipocytes were performed on cell cultures using Sprague-Dawley Rats and treated with 0.01-1mg/㎖ Bee Venom and Sweet Bee Venom. And porcine skin including fat tissue after treated Bee Venom and Sweet Bee Venom according to the dosage dependent variation are investigated the histologic changes after injection of these Pharmacopuncture. Result : Following results were obtained from the preadipocyte proliferation and lipolysis of adipocyte and histologic investigation of fat tissue. 1. Bee Venom and Sweet Bee Venom showed the effect of decreased preadipocyte proliferation depend on concentration. 2. Bee Venom and Sweet Bee Venom showed the effect of decreased the activity of glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase(GPDH) significantly. 3. Bee Venom was not showed the effect of lipolysis, but Sweet Bee Venom was increased in low dosage and decreased in high dosage. 4. Investigated the histologic changes in porcine fat tissue after treated Bee Venom and Sweet Bee Venom, we knew that these Pharmacopuncture was activated nonspecific lysis of cell membranes depend on concentration. Conclusion : These results suggest that Bee Venom and Sweet Bee Venom efficiently induces decreased proliferation of preadipocyte and lipolysis in adipose tissue

Vehicle interactions with different driving behaviors in mixed traffic conditions, in which autonomous vehicles (AVs) and manual vehicles (MVs) coexist, would result in unstable traffic flow leading to a potential crash risk. A proactive traffic management strategy is required to enhance both safety and mobility by preventing hazardous events in connected environments. The purpose of this study is to develop a Proactive Lane-changE Assistant Strategy for Automated iNnovative Transportation (PLEASANT) to enhance traffic safety. PLEASANT is a strategy for providing lane change assistance information to vehicles approaching risky situations such as crashes, broken vehicles, and upcoming hazardous obstacles. In addition, this study proposed a comprehensive simulation framework that incorporates driving simulation and traffic simulation to evaluate the performance of PLEASANT when dealing with mixed traffic. To characterize vehicle interactions between AVs and MVs, this study analyzes driving behavior in mixed car-following situations based on multiagent driving simulation (MADS), which is able to synchronize the space and time domains on the road by connecting two driving simulators. The characteristics of vehicle interactions between AVs and MVs were incorporated into microscopic traffic simulations. The effectiveness of PLEASANT was evaluated based on the crash potential index from the perspective of safety. The results showed that PLEASANT was capable of enhancing traffic safety by approximately 21%. High maternal weight is associated with detrimental outcomes in offspring, including increased susceptibility to neurological disorders such as anxiety, depression and communicative disorders. Despite widespread acknowledgement of sex biases in the development of these disorders, few studies have investigated potential sex-biased mechanisms underlying disorder susceptibility. Here, we show that a maternal high-fat diet causes endotoxin accumulation in fetal tissue, and subsequent perinatal inflammation contributes to sex-specific behavioural outcomes in offspring. In male offspring exposed to a maternal high-fat diet, increased macrophage Toll-like receptor 4 signalling results in excess microglial phagocytosis of serotonin (5-HT) neurons in the developing dorsal raphe nucleus, decreasing 5-HT bioavailability in the fetal and adult brains. Bulk sequencing from a large cohort of matched first-trimester human samples reveals sex-specific transcriptome-wide changes in placental and brain tissue in response to maternal triglyceride accumulation (a proxy for dietary fat content). Further, fetal brain 5-HT levels decrease as placental triglycerides increase in male mice and male human samples. These findings uncover a microglia-dependent mechanism through which maternal diet can impact offspring susceptibility for neuropsychiatric disorder development in a sex-specific manner.

Introduction: Prohibitin (PHB) is an essential scaffold protein that modulates signaling pathways controlling cell survival, metabolism, inflammation, and bone formation. However, its specific role in periodontium development remains less understood. This study aims to elucidate the expression pattern and function of PHB in periodontium development and its involvement in alveolar bone formation.Methods: Immunolocalization of PHB in the periodontium of postnatal (PN) mice were examined. Phb morpholino was micro-injected into the right-side mandible at PN5, corresponding to the position where the alveolar bone process forms in relation to the lower first molar. The micro-injection with a scramble control (PF-127) and the left-side mandibles were used as control groups. Five days post-micro-injection, immunohistochemical analysis and micro-CT evaluation were conducted to assess bone mass and morphological changes. Additionally, expression patterns of signaling molecules were examined following Phb downregulation using 24-h in vitro cultivation of developing dental mesenchyme at E14.5.Results: The immunostaining of PHB showed its localization in the periodontium at PN5, PN8, and PN10. The in vitro cultivation of dental mesenchyme resulted in alterations in Bmps, Runx2, and Wnt signalings after Phb knock-down. At 5 days post-micro-injection, Phb knocking down showed weak immunolocalizations of runt-related transcription factor (RUNX2) and osteocalcin (OCN). However, knocking down Phb led to histological alterations characterized by decreased bone mass and stronger localizations of Ki67 and PERIOSTIN in the periodontium compared 1 to control groups. The micro-CT evaluation showed decreased bone volume and increased PDL space in the Phb knock-down specimens, suggesting its regulatory role in bone formation.Discussion: The region-specific localization of PHB in the margin where alveolar bone forms suggests its involvement in alveolar bone formation and the differentiation of the periodontal ligament. Overall, our findings suggest that Phb plays a modulatory role in alveolar bone formation by harmoniously regulating bone-forming-related signaling molecules during periodontium development.

Periodontitis is known to be affected by high-glucose conditions, which poses a challenge to periodontal tissue regeneration, particularly in bone formation. In this study, the potential effects of resveratrol (3,5,4′-trihydroxystilbene, RSV) in facilitating bone formation under high-glucose conditions after periodontitis has been investigated. We focused on the analysis of osteoblasts and periodontal ligament cells, which are essential for bone formation including cell proliferation and differentiation. And we aimed to investigate the impact of RSV on bone healing, employed diabetic mouse model induced by streptozotocin and confirmed through histological observation. High-glucose conditions adversely affected cell proliferation and ALP activity in both MC3T3-E1 and hPDLF in vitro, with more significant impact on MC3T3-E1 cells. RSV under high-glucose conditions had positive effects on both, showing early-stage effects for MC3T3-E1 cells and later-stage effects for hPDLF cells. RSV seemed to have a more pronounced rescuing role in MC3T3-E1 cells. Increased ALP activity was observed and the expression levels of significant genes, such as Col 1, TGF-β1, ALP, and OC, in osteogenic differentiation were exhibited stage-specific expression patterns. Upregulated Col 1 and TGF-β1 were detected in the early stage, and then ALP and OC expressions became more pronounced in the later stages. Similarly, stronger positive reactions against RUNX2 were detected in the RSV-treated group compared to the control. Furthermore, in in vivo experiment, RSV stimulates the growth and differentiation of osteoblasts, thereby promoting bone formation. High-glucose levels have the potential to impair cellular functions and the regenerative capacity to facilitate bone formation with MC3T3-E1 rather than hPDLF cells. Resveratrol appears to facilitate the inherent abilities of MC3T3-E1 cells compared with hPDLF cells, indicating its potential capacity to restore functionality during periodontal regeneration.
