Nitrogen-doped porous carbons have emerged as promising electrode materials for supercapacitors. However, the precise control of carbon geometry and the effective doping method remain challenging. Herein, a confined self-assembly template and in-situ mild activation strategy is proposed to prepare cubic lignin composite precursor, followed by co-pyrolysis with melamine at a high temperature for nitrogen-doped hierarchical porous carbons (N-HPLCs). The zinc oxalate template has the coupling effect of confinement and mild activation during carbonization, which not only prevents the restacking of the carbon matrix but also generates zinc cyanamide intermediate to avoid excessive loss of nitrogen species. The optimized N-HPLCs exhibit an accordion-like framework with interconnected porous sheets, ultrahigh edge-nitrogen doping level (up to 12.20 at.%), and a total nitrogen doping level of 14.09 at.%. Consequently, it shows a high gravimetric capacitance of 354 F/g at 0.2 A/g, an extraordinary surface-area-normalized capacitance of 82.1 ± 0.2 μF/cm

Studies have confirmed active and abnormal inflammation in the hematoma cavity of chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH). However, a relationship between the peripheral blood status and the prognosis of CSDH patients has not been demonstrated.We retrospectively analyzed 245 CSDH patients who received conservative therapy (67 under close follow-up observation, 103 treated with atorvastatin, and 75 treated with atorvastatin combined with dexamethasone) from 2014 to 2021 to evaluate the role of major inflammation-associated cells in the prognostic assessment of patients. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to assess the potential factors that could indicate the prognosis among the 103 patients who underwent observation only or atorvastatin therapy. Changes in peripheral blood inflammation-associated cells at different time points were compared between patients with good and poor outcomes. Furthermore, the changes in inflammatory cells in 75 patients who received atorvastatin combined with dexamethasone were analyzed.The monocyte percentage was the only independent influencing factor in subsequent follow-up assessments. Patients with good outcomes had obviously lower circulating monocyte percentages in their peripheral blood counts throughout the treatment period. The monocyte percentage was also significantly decreased in the patients who responded well to atorvastatin combined with dexamethasone. The peripheral monocyte percentage was significantly higher in patients who transitioned to surgery because of a poor response to pharmacotherapy.The peripheral monocyte percentage may be a convenient and effective indicator for predicting the outcome of CSDH for patients receiving conservative treatment. A higher percentage of monocytes could be a risk factor for a poor response.

Research has demonstrated a relationship between anger and suicidality, while real-time authentic emotions behind facial expressions could be detected during advising hypothetical protagonists in life dilemmas. This study aimed to investigate the predictive validity of anger expressions during advising for suicide risk. Besides advising on life dilemmas (a friend’s betrayal, a friend’s suicide attempt), 130 adults completed the suicidal scale of the Mini-International Neuropsychiatric Interview. Participants’ anger during advice-giving was measured 29 times/s by artificial intelligence (AI)-based software FaceReader 7.1. The results showed that anger was a significant predictor of suicide risk. Increased anger during advising was associated with higher suicide risk. In contrast, there was no significant correlation between suicide risk and duration or length of advising. Therefore, measuring micro expressions of anger with AI-based software may help detect suicide risk among clinical patients in both traditional and online counseling contexts and help prevent suicide.

In this paper, a direct data-driven approach for the modeling of isotropic, tension–compression asymmetric, elasto-plastic materials is proposed. Our approach bypasses the conventional construction of explicit mathematical function-based elasto-plastic models, and the need for parameter-fitting. In it, stress update is driven directly by a set of stress–strain data that is generated from uniaxial tension and compression experiments (physical). Particularly, for compression experiments, digital image correlation and homogenization are combined to further improve modeling accuracy. Two representative tension–compression asymmetric materials, titanium alloy TC4ELI and high-density polyethylene, are chosen to illustrate the effectiveness and accuracy of our proposed approach. Results indicate that our data-driven approach can predict the mechanical response of elasto-plastic materials that exhibit tension–compression asymmetry, within the small deformation regime. This data-driven approach provides a practical way to model such materials directly from physical experimental data. Our current implementation is limited, however, by a small reduction to computational efficiency, when compared to typical function-based approaches. Moreover, our present formulation is focused on tension–compression asymmetric elasto-plastic materials that are isotropic.

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) that are widely utilized for video capturing, processing and transmission have to address jamming attacks with dynamic topology and limited energy. In this paper, we propose a reinforcement learning (RL)-based UAV anti-jamming video transmission scheme to choose the video compression quantization parameter, the channel coding rate, the modulation and power control strategies against jamming attacks. More specifically, this scheme applies RL to choose the UAV video compression and transmission policy based on the observed video task priority, the UAV-controller channel state and the received jamming power. This scheme enables the UAV to guarantee the video quality-of-experience (QoE) and reduce the energy consumption without relying on the jamming model or the video service model. A safe RL-based approach is further proposed, which uses deep learning to accelerate the UAV learning process and reduce the video transmission outage probability. The computational complexity is provided and the optimal utility of the UAV is derived and verified via simulations. Simulation results show that the proposed schemes significantly improve the video quality and reduce the transmission latency and energy consumption of the UAV compared with existing schemes.

Background We have recently showed that atorvastatin (ATO) combined with low dose of dexamethasone (DEX) was more efficacious in treating patients with chronic subdural haematoma (CSDH) than ATO monotherapy. This study was designed to investigate the underlying mechanisms of the improved efficacy of this combined therapy. Methods Mass spectrometry was performed to quantitatively detect drugs in haematoma fluids and serum samples from CSDH patients and also in cultured macrophages after treatment with either ATO alone or in combination with DEX. The differentiation and apoptosis of macrophages were evaluated using flow cytometry. The expression of cytokines, chemokines and angiogenesis-related proteins was evaluated using proteome profile arrays, immunoblots and ELISA, respectively. Results ATO was detected in haematoma fluids and serum samples, whose levels were increased significantly in samples collected from patients treated with both ATO and DEX. ATO was also increased in cultured macrophages treated with ATO and DEX. The numbers of M1-polarized macrophages were higher than the M2 phenotype in the haematoma fluids of patients. Cultured macrophages treated with ATO and DEX had reduced numbers of M1-polarized macrophages, increased numbers of M2-polarized macrophages as compared to monotherapies, and decreased rate of apoptosis induced by high-dose DEX. DEX enhanced the anti-inflammatory and anti-angiogenic activity of ATO by suppressing VEGFA and other inflammatory angiogenic factors. Consistent with the finding, patients responded well to the drug treatments had lower serum levels of VEGFA. Conclusions We have shown for the first time that ATO given orally was detected in CSDH haematoma fluids. DEX enhances the anti-inflammatory and anti-angiogenic effects of ATO, primarily by increasing the presence of ATO in haematoma and macrophages and by regulating the functions of macrophages.

Chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH) is a common neurosurgical disease with an increasing incidence. The absorption route of CSDH is not clear. Whether inflammatory factors enter the peripheral blood and cause systemic reactions is unknown.We screened 105 CSDH patients and 105 control individuals. Their clinical characteristics and blood routine results were collected and compared. The blood routine changes of CSDH patients before and after treatment were compared. Age-stratified analysis was performed due to age may affect the inflammatory markers.The white blood cell count, absolute neutrophil count, neutrophil percentage, neutrophil-lymphocyte count ratio (NLR), and platelet to lymphocyte count ratio (PLR) of CSDH patients before treatment were within the normal range, while were significantly higher than the control individuals (p 0.001). The absolute lymphocyte count and lymphocyte percentage of control individuals were higher than those of patients (p 0.001). The inflammatory cells in patients of different age groups were similar. After the patient was cured, the white blood cell count, the absolute value and percentage of neutrophils decreased (p 0.05), while the number of monocytes increased.CSDH caused slight systemic inflammatory responses in the peripheral blood, implying that there is a non-hematologic route for the absorption of hematoma.

Fast-response artificial phototropic materials are a promising tool for solar energy utilisation, yet their preparation remains challenging. Herein, we report the so-called photothermal domino strategy for constructing fast-response artificial phototropic materials. In this strategy, photothermal generation, heat conduction and thermal actuation are sequentially optimised by a coordination effect. For the first time, lignin-based organic radicals boosted by this coordination effect are used to significantly enhance photothermal conversion. Interfacial coordination bonds between lignin and an elastomer matrix promote interfacial heat conduction. Light-stimulated thermal actuation is significantly improved by coordination-assisted mechanical training. The prepared biomimetic phototropic material exhibits excellent phototropic ability, with a 2.5 s light-tracking process, showing great application potential for efficient solar energy utilisation. This strategy shows great significance for fabricating high-performance intelligent phototropic materials using widely available, green raw materials.

In this work, the coordination-based energy sacrificial bonds have been constructed in the interphase between lignin and polyolefin elastomer to prepare high performance lignin-based thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs). The strength and toughness of lignin-based TPEs can be adjusted by choosing different nitrogen heterocyclic compounds as reactive assistants and Fe3+ or Zn2+ as metal coordination centers. It was demonstrated that 3-Amino-1,2,4-triazole with three nitrogen atoms in the heterocyclic ring and one nitrogen branch chain could form the most efficient coordination bond system and generate the best mechanical performance. The system with ferric iron as coordination center exhibited better enhancement effect than divalent zinc. By adjusting the nitrogen-containing reactive additives or metal salts as coordination centers, the mechanical performance of the lignin-based TPE can be regulated, which provides a method for making green bio-composites with good strength and toughness, and also promotes the high value utilization of lignin in polymer materials.

Abstract. Background: High school and university teachers need to advise students against attempting suicide, the second leading cause of death among 15–29-year-olds. Aims: To investigate the role of reasoning and emotion in advising against suicide. Method: We conducted a study with 130 students at a university that specializes in teachers' education. Participants sat in front of a camera, videotaping their advising against suicide. Three raters scored their transcribed advice on "wise reasoning" (i.e., expert forms of reasoning: considering a variety of conditions, awareness of the limitation of one's knowledge, taking others' perspectives). Four registered psychologists experienced in suicide prevention techniques rated the transcripts on the potential for suicide prevention. Finally, using the software Facereader 7.1, we analyzed participants' micro-facial expressions during advice-giving. Results: Wiser reasoning and less disgust predicted higher potential for suicide prevention. Moreover, higher potential for suicide prevention was associated with more surprise. Limitations: The actual efficacy of suicide prevention was not assessed. Conclusion: Wise reasoning and counter-stereotypic ideas that trigger surprise probably contribute to the potential for suicide prevention. This advising paradigm may help train teachers in advising students against suicide, measuring wise reasoning, and monitoring a harmful emotional reaction, that is, disgust.

The objective of this study is to explore whether craniocervical manual lymphatic drainage (cMLD) can promote hematoma absorption and increase the efficiency of atorvastatin-based conservative treatment in chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH) patients. All CSDH patients treated with atorvastatin-based therapy between October 2020 and February 2022 in our department were retrospectively screened for enrollment. The patients were divided into the control and cMLD groups according to whether cMLD was performed. Head CT or MR images in both groups were obtained before the treatment and 2 weeks and 4 weeks after the treatment. MR images of the deep cervical lymphatic nodes (dCLNs) in 23 patients were obtained in the cMLD group before and approximately 2 weeks after treatment. The volumes of the dCLNs and hematoma were calculated. The primary outcomes are the differences in hematoma volume reduction after 4 weeks of treatment. The secondary outcomes were (1) the differences in hematoma volume reduction between the patients in these two groups in the 2nd week, (2) the dCLN volume change in the cMLD group before and after 2 weeks of treatment, and (3) the percentage of patients who transitioned to surgery because of failure to the conservative treatment. A total of 106 consecutive patients were enrolled in this study for analysis; 54 patients received atorvastatin-based treatment (control group), and 52 were treated with both atorvastatin-based treatment and cMLD (cMLD group). At baseline, the mean hematoma volume was 76.53 ± 42.97 ml in the control group and 88.57 ± 49.01 ml in the cMLD group (p = 0.181). In the 4th week, the absolute number of hematoma reductions (20.79 ± 34.73 ml vs. 37.28 ± 28.24 ml, p = 0.009) and percentage of hematoma reductions (22.58% ± 60.01% vs. 46.43% ± 30.12%, p = 0.012) in the cMLD group were greater than those in the control group. After 2 weeks of treatment, the absolute number of hematoma reductions showed no difference in the two groups, while the percentage of hematoma reduction was higher in the cMLD group (18.18% ± 24.61% vs. 2.08% ± 25.72%, p = 0.001). One patient in cMLD and 8 patients in the control group were transitioned to receive surgical treatment. The dCLN volumes in 23 experimental patients increased significantly after 2 weeks of treatment in the cMLD group (p = 0.032). There were no severe side effects that needed to be reported. Combined with atorvastatin-based therapy, cMLD can promote hematoma absorption and decrease the surgery rate, which provides a new therapeutic strategy for CSDH.

This poster presents a joint determination of the spectra of the reactor antineutrinos resulting from fissions of 235U and 239Pu by the Daya Bay and PROSPECT experiments. In the Daya Bay experiment, the antineutrinos were generated by six low-enriched uranium (LEU) commercial reactors with 2.9 GW thermal power each and detected by eight antineutrino detectors deployed in two near and one far underground experimental halls . In the PROSPECT experiment, the antineutrinos were generated by an 85 MW thermal power high-enriched uranium (HEU) research reactor and detected by a 4-ton 6Li-loaded liquid scintillator (LiLS) detector. This is the first combined measurement from experiments based on LEU and HEU reactors. With a joint analysis of both experiments' data, the precision of the derived 235U spectrum is improved beyond that individually observed by either experiment, and the degeneracy between derived 235U and 239Pu spectra is reduced below that from Daya Bay alone. In addition, the antineutrino energy spectrum of 235U is unfolded with the Wiener-SVD method, providing a more precise data-based prediction for the other reactor antineutrino experiments.

Design standards of preventing “plastic collapse” and “excessive overall plastic deformation” for pressure vessels are given in the ASME BPVC Section VIII Division 2 and EN 13445, respectively. These two aspects are both taken into account in the dual criterion, which could avoid the two failure modes at the same time. And the dual criterion has been adopted as Appendix B in the forthcoming revised version of Chinese JB-4732-1995 “Steel Pressure Vessel-Analysis and Design Code”. In order to realize engineering application for the dual criterion, two feasible schemes to determine quasi-limit load is proposed in this paper, and the APDL (ANSYS Parametric Design Language) is used for the programming. A dual assessment criterion module is embedded in ANSYS finite element software. On this basis, a design example of the dual assessment criterion program is analyzed. The ANSYS dual criterion assessment module is used to conduct the assessment of different material models, different quasi-limit load determination methods and different levels of design loads. The results show that the dual assessment criterion module is effective for engineering practice.

Accounting for 90% of all traumatic brain injuries (TBIs), mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) is currently the most frequently seen type of TBI. Although most patients can recover from mTBI, some may suffer from prolonged symptoms for months to years after injury. Growing evidence indicates that mTBI is associated with neurodegenerative diseases, including dementia and Parkinson's disease (PD). Pharmacological interventions are necessary to address the symptoms and avoid the adverse consequences of mTBI.To provide an overview of the current treatment options, the authors herein review the potential drugs to reduce the secondary damage and symptom-targeted therapy, as well as the ongoing clinical trials of pharmacotherapy for mTBI.There has been no consensus on pharmacotherapy for mTBI. Several candidates, including n-3 PUFAs, melatonin, NAC, and statins show potential benefits in lessening the secondary injury and improving neurological deficits in preclinic studies, which, however, still need further investigation in clinical trials. The current pharmacotherapy for mTBI is empirical in nature and mainly targets to mitigate the symptoms. Well-designed clinical trials are now warranted to provide high-level evidence.

Mobile edge computing (MEC) raises the issue of resisting selfish edge attackers that use less computation resources than promised to process offloading tasks or provide faked computation results. In this paper, we present a blockchain based trust mechanism to help MEC address selfish edge attacks and faked service record attacks. This mechanism evaluates the computational performance of the edge devices and broadcasts such information to the neighboring edge devices and mobile devices. By building a reputation assignment method for the edge devices, the edge reputation system chooses the miner of the blockchain, which applies the joint Proof-of-Work and Proof-of-Stake consensus protocol to append a block recording the new service reputations onto the MEC blockchain. We propose a reinforcement learning (RL) based edge central processing unit (CPU) allocation algorithm without knowing the mobile service generation model and the network model in the dynamic edge computing process and a deep RL version to further improve the computational performance. The security performance is analyzed and the performance bound of the edge utility is provided. Experimental results show that this framework suppresses the selfish edge attacks, decreases the response latency and saves the energy compared with a benchmark MEC scheme.

This study was designed to investigate the effect of low-temperature laminar flow ward (LTLFW) on the Acinetobacter baumannii pneumonia (MDR-ABP) in neurosurgical intensive care unit (NICU) patients. We evaluated whether patients in a LTLFW had significantly improved clinical outcomes as compared to those in nonconstant-temperature NICU (room temperature). The association of temperature with the prevalence of ABP and A. baumannii isolates (ABI) found in NICU patients was specifically investigated. In vitro microbiological experiments were conducted to measure the proliferation, antibiotic sensitivity, and genomic profiles of A. baumannii (AB) that grew in variable temperatures. MDR-ABP patients in LTLFW had significantly improved outcomes than those in the room temperature NICU. In addition, the numbers of ABI were positively associated with mean ambient outdoor temperatures (P = 0.002), with the incidence of ABP and average numbers of ABI among NICU patients being substantially lower in the winter as compared to other seasons. However, there were no significant seasonal variations in the other strains of the top five bacteria. Consistent with these clinical observations, AB growing at 20°C and 25°C had significantly reduced viability and antibiotic resistance compared to those growing at 35°C. The expression of genes related to AB survival ability, drug resistance, and virulence also differed between AB growing at 20°C and those at 35°C. LTLFW is effective in promoting the recovery of MDR-ABP patients because low temperatures reduced the density and virulence of AB and enhanced the efficacy of antibiotics, likely at the genetic level.
