Abstract Field-controlled micromanipulation represents a pivotal technique for handling microparticles, yet conventional methods often risk physical damage to targets. Here, we discovered a completely new mechanism for true noncontact manipulation through photothermal effects, called thermal-optical tweezers. We employ a laser self-assembly photothermal waveguide (PTW) for dynamic microparticle manipulation. This waveguide demonstrates superior photothermal conversion and precision control, generating a nonisothermal temperature field. The interaction of thermal convection and thermophoresis within this field creates a microfluidic potential well, enabling noncontact and nondestructive particle manipulation. By varying the path of PTWs in lithography and manipulating laser loading modes, diverse manipulation strategies, such as Z-shaped migration, periodic oscillation, and directional transport, are achievable. Our innovative noninvasive micromanipulation technology minimizes not only physical damage to target objects but also enables precise and diverse manipulation of micro entities, opening up new avenues for the photothermal control of cells and biomolecules.

Abstract All-optical diffractive neural networks, as analog artificial intelligence accelerators, leverage parallelism and analog computation for complex data processing. However, their low space transmission efficiency or large spatial dimensions hinder miniaturization and broader application. Here, we propose a terahertz spoof plasmonic neural network on a planar diffractive platform for direct multi-target recognition. Our approach employs a spoof surface plasmon polariton coupler array to construct a diffractive network layer, resulting in a compact, efficient, and easily integrable architecture. We designed three schemes: basis vector classification, multi-user recognition, and MNIST handwritten digit classification. Experimental results reveal that the terahertz spoof plasmonic neural network successfully classifies basis vectors, recognizes multi-user orientation information, and directly processes handwritten digits using a designed input framework comprising a metal grating array, transmitters, and receivers. This work broadens the application of terahertz plasmonic metamaterials, paving the way for terahertz on-chip integration, intelligent communication, and advanced computing systems.

Abstract Adlay millet seeds are well known for excellent health benefits. However, using fungal fermentation to improve their nutritional and functional constituents and the underlying mechanisms has not been thoroughly investigated. Herein, we used Rhizopus oryzae as starter and applied metabolomics combining with quantitative verification to understand the changes of the nutritional and functional profiles of adlay millet seeds. Results showed that a total of 718 metabolites from 18 compound classes were identified. The fermentation with R. oryzae varied 203 differential metabolites, of which 184 became more abundant and 19 got less abundant, and many components such as amino acids, nucleotides, vitamins, flavonoids, terpenoids, and phenols significantly increased after the fermentation process. Interestingly, we found that R. oryzae synthesized high levels of two important beneficial compounds, S-adenosylmethionine (SAMe) and β-Nicotinamide mononucleotide (β-NMN), with their contents increased from 0.56 to 370.26 μg/g and 0.55 to 8.32 μg/g, respectively. The Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analysis of enriched metabolites revealed the amino acid metabolic pathways were important for conversion of the primary and secondary metabolites. Specifically, aspartate can up-regulate the biosynthesis of SAMe and β-NMN. These findings improved our understanding into the effects of R. oryzae fermentation on enhancing the nutritional and functional values of cereal foods.

Abstract Background Urinary tract infection (UTI) is a common cause of sepsis. Elderly patients with urosepsis in intensive care unit (ICU) have more severe conditions and higher mortality rates owing to factors such as advanced age, immunosenescence, and persistent host inflammatory responses. However, comprehensive studies on nomograms to predict the in-hospital mortality risk in elderly patients with urosepsis are lacking. This study aimed to construct a nomogram predictive model to accurately assess the prognosis of elderly patients with urosepsis and provide therapeutic recommendations. Methods Data of elderly patients with urosepsis were extracted from the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care (MIMIC) IV 2.2 database. Patients were randomly divided into training and validation cohorts. A predictive nomogram model was constructed from the training set using logistic regression analysis, followed by internal validation and sensitivity analysis. Results This study included 1,251 patients. LASSO regression analysis revealed that the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score, red cell distribution width (RDW), white blood count (WBC), and invasive ventilation were independent risk factors identified from a total of 43 variables studied. We then created and verified a nomogram. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC), net reclassification improvement (NRI), integrated discrimination improvement (IDI), and decision curve analysis (DCA) of the nomogram were superior to those of the traditional SAPS-II, APACHE-II, and SOFA scoring systems. The Hosmer-Lemeshow test results and calibration curves suggested good nomogram calibration. The IDI and NRI values showed that our nomogram scoring tool performed better than the other scoring systems. The DCA curves showed good clinical applicability of the nomogram. Conclusions The nomogram constructed in this study is a convenient tool for accurately predicting in-hospital mortality in elderly patients with urosepsis in ICU. Improving the treatment strategies for factors related to the model could improve the in-hospital survival rates of these patients.

BackgroundThe design of femoral stem prostheses requires a precise understanding of the femoral marrow cavity. Traditional measurements of morphological parameters in the upper femur, particularly the medullary cavity and cortical region, are primarily based on coronal and sagittal axes, which may not fully capture the true three-dimensional structure of the femur.MethodsPropose a Monte Carlo-based method for a more comprehensive analysis of the femoral marrow cavity, using CT scans of femurs from a selected group of patients. The study aimed to define and calculate anatomically semantic morphological parameters to enhance the understanding of the femoral marrow cavity's anatomical morphological changes, ultimately improving the design and clinical selection of femoral stem prostheses. To enhance the accuracy of femoral stem prosthesis design, this study aims to develop a Monte Carlo-based method for a more comprehensive analysis of the femoral marrow cavity. The proposed method transforms the non-random problem of determining cross-sectional size into a random issue, allowing for the calculation of the size of the medullary cavity and cortical region. Anatomically semantic morphological parameters are then defined, calculated, and analyzed.ResultsThe experimental results indicate that the newly defined parameters complement existing ones, providing a more rational scientific basis for understanding the anatomical morphological changes of the femoral marrow cavity.ConclusionThis research offers essential scientific theoretical support for improved morphologic research, design, and clinical selection of femoral stem prostheses. It holds significant importance and application value in clinical practice, contributing to a more accurate and comprehensive understanding of femoral anatomy for prosthetic design.

The excellence of intelligent detection models has been widely recognized, but in terms of cross-domain scenes, they still face performance degradation and low accuracy. A multi-supervised Tri-Flow-YOLO model is proposed to improve the accuracy of objects with various scales under cross-domain conditions. Based on the full-supervised traditional detection branch of YOLOv5, another two mutually supporting task branches are designed intently. In brief, we add unsupervised adversarial classification training flow to the backend, to realize the feature alignment requirements and improve the cross-domain performance stability of the model. Meanwhile, a weakly-supervised object counting flow is proposed to improve the model's attention to all the objects and the detection ability is efficiently enforced. In addition, I-Mosaic and iCIOU are designed especially for small hard objects, enriching the positive samples during the training process. With the auxiliary of both improved strategies, the imbalance of positive and negative samples in the anchor-based model is relieved accordingly. The experimental results show that the improved Tri-Flow-YOLO model achieves 56.0 mAP in the Cityscapes→Foggy-Cityscapes task, and 49.8 mAP in the VOC→Clipart task.

Background: Septic shock is a clinical syndrome characterized by the progression of sepsis to a severe stage. Elderly patients with urosepsis in the intensive care unit (ICU) are more likely to progress to septic shock. This study aimed to establish and validate a nomogram model for predicting the risk of progression to septic shock in elderly patients with urosepsis. Methods: We extracted data from the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care (MIMIC-IV) and the eICU Collaborative Research Database (eICU-CRD). The MIMIC-IV dataset was split into a training set for model development and an internal validation set to assess model performance. Further external validation was performed using a distinct dataset sourced from the eICU-CRD. Predictors were screened using least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression and multivariable logistic regression analyses. The evaluation of model performance included discrimination, calibration, and clinical usefulness. Results: The study demonstrated that the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS), white blood count (WBC), platelet, blood urea nitrogen (BUN), calcium, albumin, congestive heart failure (CHF), and invasive ventilation were closely associated with septic shock in the training cohort. Nomogram prediction, utilizing eight parameters, demonstrated strong predictive accuracy with area under the curve (AUC) values of 0.809 (95 % CI 0.786–0.834), 0.794 (95 % CI 0.756–0.831), and 0.723 (95 % CI 0.647–0.801) in the training, internal validation, and external validation sets, respectively. Additionally, the nomogram demonstrated a promising calibration performance and significant clinical usefulness in both the training and validation sets. Conclusion: The constructed nomogram is a reliable and practical tool for predicting the risk of progression to septic shock in elderly patients with urosepsis. Its implementation in clinical practice may enhance the early identification of high-risk patients, facilitate timely and targeted interventions to mitigate the risk of septic shock, and improve patient outcomes.

Abstract According to the latest evidence, the microbial metabolite Urolithin A (UA), known for its role in promoting cellular health, modulates CD8+ T cell‐mediated antitumor activity. However, the direct target protein of UA and its underlying mechanism remains unclear. Here, this research identifies ERK1/2 as the specific target crucial for UA‐mediated CD8+ T cell activation. Even at low doses, UA markedly enhances the persistence and effector functions of primary CD8+ cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) and human chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells both in vitro and in vivo. Mechanistically, UA interacts directly with ERK1/2 kinases, enhancing their activation and subsequently facilitating T cell activation by engaging ULK1. The UA‐ERK1/2‐ULK1 axis promotes autophagic flux in CD8+ CTLs, enhancing cellular metabolism and maintaining reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels, as evidenced by increased oxygen consumption and extracellular acidification rates. UA‐treated CD8+ CTLs also display elevated ATP levels and enhanced spare respiratory capacity. Overall, UA activates ERK1/2, inducing autophagy and metabolic adaptation, showcasing its potential in tumor immunotherapy and interventions for diseases involving ERKs.

Due to the inherent nature of being highly digitalized, networked and intelligent, Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) operations pose a huge challenge to traditional aviation regulation and technical systems. How to keep safe, efficient and integrated operation for different Airspace users has become a pressing issue faced by civil aviation around the world. This paper focuses on the main operational scenarios and characteristics of unmanned aviation development in China. New operational characteristics and associated challenges due to diverse low-altitude users are analyzed, including operation concepts, UAS traffic management, technological test and verification, and standards. Drawing light on the practices in Europe and the United States, this paper summarizes China's practices and progress in low-altitude operations management, and analyzes future technological development needs and trends, as well as feasible implementation pathways and measures based on actual needs.

Abstract The heterogeneous market hypothesis states that there are different types of investors with different investment term-structures in the stock market. Based on the hypothesis, we analyze the trading strategies of moving averages with different term structures, and we find that the trading strategies formed by the 1-month short-term moving average with 3-, 6-, 9-, 12-, 18-, and 24-month long-term moving averages can gain significant excess returns in the Chinese market. Accordingly, this paper adopts the moving average factor formed by the method of Liu’s to expand the current four-factor pricing model of the Chinese market. The results of spanning regression show that the introduction of the short-term average with a period of 1-month and the long-term moving average with a period of 3- and 12-month can significantly improve the pricing power. The GRS test developed by Gibbons et al. (1989) also shows that the augmented six-factor model with moving average factors can pass the test at the significance level of 5%, and the average absolute value of intercept terms decreases by about 50% compared with the results of the four-factor model. At the same time, under different macro-state dependence, the overall performance of the augmented six-factor model with moving averages is still better than that of the four-factor pricing model proposed by Liu et al.’s. Our main contribution is to introduce double moving average factors to capture the behaviors of investors’ different term structures and add these factors to the most competitive asset pricing model for enhancing the pricing power. It is of great significance to supplement the pricing model in the Chinese market.

The excellent image-generation ability of generative adversarial networks (GANs) has been widely used. However, training a GAN requires large-scale data support, which hinders in-depth development. Therefore, the research on stable training of GANs under limited data conditions is helpful to further expand the application scenarios. To solve this problem, a new network based on a dual-ways discriminator structure is designed, used to eliminate the problem that a single discriminator model is prone to overfitting under the condition of limited data. Then, the problem that the traditional data augmentation strategy is limited to pixel space and lacks attention to the overall structure and contour of the image is analyzed. An adaptive dynamic data augmentation strategy based on the Laplace convolution kernel is proposed from the frequency domain space, which realizes the purpose of implicitly increasing the training data in the training process. This new designed module improves the performance of the generative adversarial network. Through extensive experiments, it was confirmed that the new network, named FD-GAN, achieved prefer image generation ability, and its Fid score reached 4.58, 12.007, and 10.382 in the AFHQ-Cat, AFHQ-Dog, and TankDataSet datasets, respectively.

ObjectiveGlycolytic inhibition via 2-deoxy-D-glucose (2DG) has potential therapeutic benefits for a range of diseases, including cancer, epilepsy, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), and rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and COVID-19, but the systemic effects of 2DG on gene function across different tissues are unclear.MethodsThis study analyzed the transcriptional profiles of nine tissues from C57BL/6J mice treated with 2DG to understand how it modulates pathways systemically. Principal component analysis (PCA), weighted gene co-network analysis (WGCNA), analysis of variance, and pathway analysis were all performed to identify modules altered by 2DG treatment.ResultsPCA revealed that samples clustered predominantly by tissue, suggesting that 2DG affects each tissue uniquely. Unsupervised clustering and WGCNA revealed six distinct tissue-specific modules significantly affected by 2DG, each with unique key pathways and genes. 2DG predominantly affected mitochondrial metabolism in the heart, while in the small intestine, it affected immunological pathways.ConclusionsThese findings suggest that 2DG has a systemic impact that varies across organs, potentially affecting multiple pathways and functions. The study provides insights into the potential therapeutic benefits of 2DG across different diseases and highlights the importance of understanding its systemic effects for future research and clinical applications.

BackgroundInguinal hernia is a common global disease. This study aims to investigate the effectiveness and safety of robot-assisted transabdominal preperitoneal repair (RTAPP) and laparoscopic transabdominal preperitoneal repair (LTAPP) for inguinal hernia.MethodsWe conducted a thorough search in Cochrane Library, Embase, and PubMed for relevant clinical studies. After applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, the quality of selected studies was assessed using the Jadad scale for randomized controlled studies and the Newcastle-Ottawa scale for observational studies. Meta-analysis was performed using RevMan 5.3 software.ResultsA total of ten studies were included, comprising two randomized controlled studies and eight non-randomized controlled studies. Meta-analysis results revealed no statistically significant differences between the RTAPP group and the LTAPP group regarding hospital stay [MD = 0.21 days, 95% CI (-0.09, 0.51), P = 0.17], incidence of seroma [OR = 0.85, 95% CI(0.45, 1.59), P = 0.61], overall complication rate [OR = 1.22, 95% CI(0.68, 2.18), P = 0.51], readmission rate [OR = 1.31, 95% CI(0.23, 7.47), P = 0.76], and recurrence rate [OR = 0.82, 95% CI(0.22, 3.07), P = 0.77]. However, the RTAPP group had longer operation time compared to the LTAPP group [MD = 14.02 minutes, 95% CI (6.65, 21.39), P = 0.0002], and the cost of the RTAPP procedure was higher than that of the LTAPP procedure [MD = $4.17 thousand, 95% CI (2.59, 5.76), PConclusionRTAPP for inguinal hernia is a safe and feasible approach, however, it is associated with increased operation time and treatment costs.

It is still controversial whether glue can be used for mesh fixation in laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair. The aim of this meta-analysis was used to systematically evaluate the effectiveness and safety of glue mesh fixation in laparoscopic tension-free inguinal hernia repair. The PubMed database, EMBASE database and Cochrane Library were searched to collect published randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on laparoscopic tension-free inguinal hernia repair with glue mesh fixation. Sixteen RCTs and 2409 patients with inguinal hernia were included. The meta-analysis showed that compared with the mechanical mesh fixation group(MMFG), the glue mesh fixation group(GMFG) had significantly reduced incidences of chronic pain[relative risk (RR) = 0.40, 95% confidence interval (CI) (0.28,0.57), P

The current nonlinear distortion of power converter can cause motion trajectory error and positioning error of motor, and affect the nano motion and positioning accuracy of ultra-precision system. The resonant pole-based dual buck soft-switching power converter (RPDBSPC) topology does not​ suffer current distortion caused by blanking time, and can support the high-frequency operation. It is suitable for the field of high dynamic and high-precision motion control. In order to realize the low nonlinear distortion current, the dual buck soft-switching topology should possess high linear output characteristics, and its nonlinear voltage error needs to be suppressed. This paper analyzes the operation principle of resonant power converter, and establishes its state space average model. Based on this, the nonlinear voltage error related resonant process of soft-switching topology is researched. Combined with the resonant equivalent circuit under unbalanced voltage sharing condition and the nonlinear characteristics of switching output capacitance, the expressions of nonlinear voltage error and zero voltage time are deduced, and a nonlinear voltage error suppression method based on zero voltage time control is proposed, which effectively reduces the current nonlinear distortion of resonant power converter.

Due to no current distortion caused by blanking time, the resonant pole dual buck soft-switching power converter (RPDBSPC) can be applied to ultra-precision motor drive. The soft-switching operation can expand the switching frequency and improve the current response. Based on the resonant pole soft-switching topology, this paper proposes an in-phase modulation strategy. By analyzing the output voltage characteristics of switching nodes under different inductance current states, it reveals the mechanism of in-phase modulation to achieve nonlinear voltage suppression by adjusting the common conduction region. According to the correlation of modulated signals, the mathematical model of modulation algorithm is established, then the strategy feasibility and system stability are researched. Finally, the total harmonic distortion of output current can reach to 0.134% by applying the in-phase modulation when the bus voltage is 500V and the switching frequency is 100 kHz.

Abstract Background Mangrove tannins can participate in wetland biogeochemical cycling. However, their fate and dynamics during leaf litter leaching have yet to be elucidated in coastal aquatic environments. Methods By using a simulated microcosm experiment, changes in leaf litter mass and tannin compounds, including total phenolics (TP), extractable condensed tannins (ECT), and bound condensed tannins (BCT), were examined in the litters and leachates of four common mangrove species: Kandelia obovata (Ko), Aegiceras corniculatum (Ac), Sonneratia apetala (Sa), and Avicennia marina (Am). Results Leaching caused a notable decline in litter mass, TP, and ECT in the leaf litter of Ko, Ac, Sa, and Am, while BCT increased significantly in Ko and Ac. Loss in foliar TP was higher than in leaf litter mass, and loss in foliar ECT was higher than in TP of Ko and Ac, but Sa showed the opposite result. The temporal changes of TP and ECT concentrations in leachates followed a similar trend, with an initial increase followed by a decrease. ECT dynamics in Ko and Ac leachates correlated with their TP concentrations, while in Sa leachate, the peak ECT occurred 72 h later than its TP peak. The leachate ECT concentrations were highest in Ac, followed by Ko, and significantly lower in Sa. The peak TP and ECT proportions in leachates accounted for 9.2–23.9% and 7.7–9.4% of the total decreases in foliar TP and ECT, respectively. Conclusion During the leaching process, tannins’ fate was species-specific, while the dynamics were almost similar.

Abstract In Open-domain Chinese Knowledge Base Question Answering (ODCKBQA), most common simple questions can be answered by a single relational fact in the knowledge base (KB). The abbreviations, aliases, and nesting of entities in Chinese question sentences, and the gap between them and the structured semantics in the knowledge base, make it difficult for the system to accurately return answers. This study proposes a semantic union model (SUM), which concatenates candidate entities and candidate relationships, using a contrastive learning algorithm to learn the semantic vector representation of question and candidate entity-relation pairs, and perform cosine similarity calculations to simultaneously complete entity disambiguation and relation matching tasks. It can provide information for entity disambiguation through the relationships between entities, avoid error propagation, and improve the system performance. The experimental results show that the system achieves a good average F1 of 85.94% on the dataset provided by the NLPCC-ICCPOL 2016 KBQA task.

Abstract Background The present study aimed to explore the time of maximum bacterial load and main colonization knee site in bacterial infection process based on a novel rat model of septic arthritis (SA) after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR). Methods Ninety-five Wistar rats with unilateral ACLR, random enrolled into control surgery (CS) group; joint inject (JI) group; presoaking (PS) group, were injected with 30 μl sterile saline or 30 μl × 107 colony forming units/ml Staphylococcus aureus via the knee joint or graft with presoaked Staphylococcus aureus during ACLR, respectively. At 1, 4, 7, 11, and 14 days postoperatively, samples were harvested to evaluate progress of knee joint infection by postoperative body weight, body temperature, knee temperature, knee width, scales of tissue damage, serum inflammatory markers, microbiological counting, microcomputed tomography (Micro-CT), digital radiography, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examination, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Results No systemic infection was observed in all rats. Comparing with serum inflammatory markers, tissue scores of inflammatory reactions, bacterial counts in the CS group, these data were significantly elevated in the JI group and PS group. The bone mass around the bone tunnel was lower and the soft tissue of knee showed more obvious swelling on MRI in the infection groups than that in the CS group at 7 and 14 days postoperatively. Staphylococcus aureus clusters on the surface of screw and graft were observed in the infection group. The whole colony forming units of Staphylococcus aureus maintained a continuous upward trend peaking 7 and 11 days followed by a balanced curve in the infection groups. Bone and soft tissue were found to have more bacterial counts than graft and screws. Conclusion This animal model effectively mimics the acute knee infection after ACLR. We found that the bacterial colonization exhibited the peak of acute infection between 7 and 11 days postoperatively, with the major bacteria loads found in the bone, soft tissue.

Abstract Background Understanding context-specific determinants of antiretroviral therapy (ART) adherence is crucial for developing tailored interventions for improving health outcomes and achieving the UNAIDS’ third 95% target. This cross-sectional study explores factors associated with ART adherence among stable people living with HIV on ART in Cambodia. Methods We used baseline survey data from a quasi-experimental study conducted in 2021. The participants were recruited from 20 ART clinics in nine provinces for face-to-face interviews. A structured questionnaire collected information on sociodemographic characteristics, ART adherence, perceived ART self-efficacy, mental health, quality of life, stigma, and discrimination. We conducted bivariate and multiple logistic regression analyses to identify factors associated with ART adherence. Results Out of the 4101 participants, 86.5% reported adhering to ART in the past two months. The adjusted odds of ART adherence were significantly higher among participants in older age groups than those aged 15–29, participants with elevated cholesterol than those without it, participants who exhibited strong self-efficacy in health responsibility to maintain life than those with poor self-efficacy in health responsibility, participants who scored 301 USD per month than those who earned ≤ 100 USD per month. Conclusion The ART adherence rate among stable people living with HIV in this study was comparable to that of the general people living with HIV in Cambodia. The results suggest the need for innovative interventions to further reduce stigma and discrimination and strategies to improve the self-efficacy and mental health of people living with HIV to improve ART adherence.

Abstract Decellularized vascular matrix is a natural polymeric biomaterial that comes from arteries or veins which are removed the cellular contents by physical, chemical and enzymatic means, leaving only the cytoskeletal structure and extracellular matrix to achieve cell adhesion, proliferation and differentiation and creating a suitable microenvironment for their growth. In recent years, the decellularized vascular matrix has attracted much attention in the field of tissue repair and regenerative medicine due to its remarkable cytocompatibility, biodegradability and ability to induce tissue regeneration. Firstly, this review introduces its basic properties and preparation methods; then, it focuses on the application and research of composite scaffold materials based on decellularized vascular matrix in vascular tissue engineering in terms of current in vitro and in vivo studies, and briefly outlines its applications in other tissue engineering fields; finally, it looks into the advantages and drawbacks to be overcome in the application of decellularized vascular matrix materials. In conclusion, as a new bioactive material for building engineered tissue and repairing tissue defects, decellularized vascular matrix will be widely applied in prospect.

Cellulose is one of the abundant natural polymers in nature, which is renewable, environmentally friendly and biocompatible. Nanocellulose is prepared by physical or chemical method from cellulose. The morphology and physicochemical properties of nanocellulose are significantly affected by the different methods of preparation. Nanocellulose has attracted much attention in food industry due to its high surface area and modulus, amphiphilicity, biocompatibility and safety. In this paper, the application of nanocellulose prepared by agricultural and forestry by-products in food packaging, emulsifying stabilizer, enzyme immobilization and rapid nondestructive detection of food contaminants based on surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) are summarized. Challenges in the application of nanocellulose in food industry are analyzed, and the research development tendency is prospected.

Abstract Background Systemic vancomycin administration pre-operatively for the infection prophylaxis of spinal implant surgery remains unsatisfactory. This study aimed to explore the efficacy and dosage of local use of vancomycin powder (VP) in preventing surgical site infections after spinal implant surgery in a rat model. Methods Systemic vancomycin (SV; intraperitoneal injection, 88 mg/kg) or intraoperative intra-wound VP (VP0.5: 44 mg/kg, VP1.0: 88 mg/kg, VP2.0: 176 mg/kg) was applied after spinal implant surgery and methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA; ATCC BAA-1026) inoculation in rats. General status, blood inflammatory biomarkers, microbiological and histopathological evaluation were performed during 2 weeks post-surgery. Results No post-surgical deaths, wound complications and obvious signs of vancomycin adverse effects were observed. Bacterial counts, blood and tissue inflammation were reduced in the VP groups compared with the SV group. VP2.0 group showed better outcomes in weight gain and tissue inflammation than the VP0.5 and VP1.0 group. Microbial counts indicated that no bacteria survived in the VP2.0 group, whereas MRSA was detected in VP0.5 and VP1.0 groups. Conclusions Intra-wound VP may be more effective than systemic administration in preventing infection caused by MRSA (ATCC BAA-1026) after spinal implant surgery in a rat model.

Abstract Almost all current climate models simplify the ocean surface albedo (OSA) by assuming the reflected solar energy without the ocean interior contribution. In this study, an improved ocean surface albedo scheme is incorporated into the Community Earth System Model version 2 (CESM2) to assess the sensitivity of Arctic surface temperature to including ocean interior reflectance to the OSA. Fully coupled CESM2 simulations with and without ocean interior reflectance are subsequently performed, we focus on the analysis of Arctic surface temperature responses. Incorporating ocean interior reflectance increases absorbed solar radiation and warms the ocean, enhancing seasonal heat storage and release across the Arctic Ocean, and increasing sea ice reduction and positive climate feedbacks that elevates Arctic surface temperature. Seasonal variations in air‐surface temperature differences induce changes in turbulent heat flux patterns, concurrently modifying dynamic advection and moisture processes that affect boundary layer humidity and low clouds, especially in winter. Based on partitioning physical processes in the thermodynamic energy equation, surface air warming is induced primarily through positive heating anomalies of vertical advection, latent heat release, and longwave radiative forcing. Through an examination of the surface energy budget, skin temperature warming is driven predominantly by increased downward longwave radiation, positive surface albedo feedback in summer, and increased conductive heat transport from the ocean particularly in winter. Significant effects of ocean interior reflectance on the Arctic Ocean, including sea surface warming and sea ice reduction, justify the importance of ocean interior reflectance in climate models for better understanding of ongoing Arctic climate changes.

ABSTRACTCombined with data from the Broadband China pilots, panel data on financial fraud in prefecture-level cities from China Judgments Online are used to examine the impact of internet technology on financial fraud. We find that internet technology has significantly increased city financial fraud. The causal effect still exists after the model validity test, excluding the selection bias of Broadband China pilot cities and the reporting effect of the internet. Furthermore, the trust effect is an important mechanism, and heterogeneity analysis shows that internet technology has a more significant impact on the financial fraud committed by highly educated and young fraudsters and on high-tech-dependent financial fraud.

Abstract Hirudin is a pharmacologically active substance in leeches with potent blood anticoagulation properties. Although recombinant hirudin production isolated from Hirudo medicinalis Linnaeus and Hirudinaria manillensis Lesson is known, to our knowledge, this study is the first to report recombinant hirudin expression and production from Hirudo nipponia Whitman. Thus, the present study aimed to clone and characterize the full-length cDNA of a candidate hirudin gene (c16237_g1), which is localized on the salivary gland transcriptome of H. nipponia, and further evaluate its recombinant production using a eukaryotic expression system. The 489-bp cDNA possessed several properties of the hirudin “core” motifs associated with binding to the thrombin catalytic pocket. A fusion expression vector (pPIC9K-hirudin) was constructed and successfully transformed into Pichia pastoris strain GS115 via electroporation. Sodium dodecyl sulphate–polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and western blot analysis confirmed hirudin expression. The recombinant protein was expressed with a yield of 6.68 mg/L culture. Mass spectrometry analysis further confirmed target protein expression. The concentration and antithrombin activity of purified hirudin were 1.67 mg/mL and 14,000 ATU/mL, respectively. These findings provide a basis for further elucidating the molecular anticoagulation mechanism of hirudin, and address China’s growing market demand for engineered H. nipponia-derived hirudin and hirudin-based drugs.

Abstract Background Public Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) education is important to increase the survival rate of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). In this study, we survey local healthcare personnel in China who met the requirements of becoming public CPR instructors to assess their level of knowledge and attitudes toward teaching CPR. Materials and Methods To find qualified public CPR instructors among the local healthcare personnel, we ran three training sessions between March 2018 and December 2018. We held three courses on selecting public CPR instructors from the local healthcare personnel (n = 496). We also surveyed candidates for public CPR instructors before making our final choice. The selected instructors were retrained for a single day in December 2021. The necessary information was exchanged with the members of the passing group, and the maintained valuables were investigated. Results Public CPR instructors certified 428 cases (86.49%) after the final exam. The results showed that the emergency group had a higher success rate than the non-emergency group (control group) (175, 90.7% vs. 253, 83.8%; P = 0.042). Here, we conducted a binary logistic regression analysis to determine the relationship between 15 survey variables and the passing rate. The variables, such as financial incentives, prior automatic external defibrillator (AED) training, and younger age were independently affected by being public CPR instructors. Despite this, 246 instructors (57.9%) still attended the retraining courses in 2021, with significantly more instructors in the emergency group than those in the non-emergency group (111, 64.5% vs. 135, 53.4%; P = 0.022). Furthermore, the instructors who were not incentivized financially were less likely to switch between the emergency and non-emergency groups (96, 79.33% vs. 116, 86.56%; P = 0.990). Conclusion The Chinese emergency team can serve as a model for the local healthcare personnel by training and leading a group of volunteer CPR instructors. Our research has practical implications for China's national CPR education policy by informing the scheduling of regional public CPR education programs.

To improve the performance of the rigid body localization (RBL) in the non-line-of-sight (NLOS) environment, this paper delves into a joint estimation method about the wireless signal transmission parameter and the attitude parameters of the rigid body, employing Time Difference of Arrival (TDOA) and Received Signal Strength (RSS) measurements. In the initial phase, the rigid body sensors localization problem is transformed into a difference of convex (DC) programming based on the TDOA measurement, and the concave–convex procedure (CCCP) is adopted to solve the initial estimate of the rigid body sensors position. Subsequently, the positions of the rigid body sensors are estimated based on the RSS measurement, and the wireless signal transmission parameters are obtained by using the weighted least square method. Finally, the minimization objective function is reconstructed is reconstructed by incorporating modified RSS and TDOA measurements. The attitude parameters of the rigid body are then determined using a combination of the bisection method and singular value decomposition (SVD). Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of this proposed approach in significantly enhancing RBL accuracy under NLOS environments.

Metasurface has garnered extensive attention across multiple disciplines owing to its profound capability in electromagnetic (EM) manipulations. To determine its EM characteristics accurately, full-wave simulations are essential. These simulations necessitate significant amounts of time and memory resources, hindering the efficiency of the design process. In this article, we propose MetaPhyNet, a novel physics-driven neural network based on temporal coupled-mode theory (CMT) to address the challenges of low efficiency and high memory consumption in large-scale metasurface design. In the proposed approach, a surrogate model is developed to achieve rapid prediction of the EM responses of ultra-large-scale metasurfaces. In comparison with the full-wave EM simulation, the proposed model reduces the simulation time of the ultra-large-scale metasurface by up to two orders of magnitude and the memory consumption by more than two orders of magnitude. Our proposed approach aims to enhance the efficiency and intelligence in metasurface design by leveraging the principles of CMT within a neural network framework. Through this innovative integration of physics-based modeling and machine learning, we seek to achieve significant advancements in the design efficiency of metasurfaces. We apply the proposed model to optimize the design of two metasurface absorbers to showcase the effectiveness of our proposed approach. Simulations and experimental results are provided to demonstrate the value and impact of our approach in addressing existing challenges in full-wave EM simulation-based design optimizations of metasurfaces.

As a city–county consolidation with Chinese characteristics, China’s county-to-district (CtD) reform transfers a county’s autonomy to a city, thereby strengthening the administrative, decision-making, fiscal and other powers of the prefecture-level municipal government, which effectively enables the centralization of local governments. Based on this exogenous quasi-natural experiment, we use a difference-in-differences (DID) approach to empirically examine the impact of prefecture-level municipal government centralization on companies’ ESG performance. The results show that municipal government centralization can significantly promote corporate ESG performance, which represents environmental protection, social responsibility and corporate governance behavior. The mechanism analysis also shows that the CtD reform can address market segmentation, alleviate policy uncertainty and reduce rent-seeking, which further improves ESG performance.

Summary: Aberrant metabolic demand is observed in immune/inflammatory disorders, yet the role in pathogenesis remains unclear. Here, we discover that in lupus, activated B cells, including germinal center B (GCB) cells, have remarkably high glycolytic requirement for survival over T cell populations, as demonstrated by increased metabolic activity in lupus-activated B cells compared to immunization-induced cells. The augmented reliance on glucose oxidation makes GCB cells vulnerable to mitochondrial ROS-induced oxidative stress and apoptosis. Short-term glycolysis inhibition selectively reduces pathogenic activated B in lupus-prone mice, extending their lifespan, without affecting T follicular helper cells. Particularly, BCMA-expressing GCB cells rely heavily on glucose oxidation. Depleting BCMA-expressing activated B cells with APRIL-based CAR-T cells significantly prolongs the lifespan of mice with severe autoimmune disease. These results reveal that glycolysis-dependent activated B and GCB cells, especially those expressing BCMA, are potentially key lupus mediators, and could be targeted to improve disease outcomes.

Abstract In recent years, topological physics of classical waves in artificial crystals has become an emerging field of research. While Dirac cones and valley‐related physics are conventionally studied in these systems with C6v and C3v point‐group symmetries, here analog quantum valley Hall and quantum spin Hall plasmons in graphene metasurfaces with lower point‐group symmetries are explored. First, it is shown that a single‐layer graphene sheet with rectangle holes respecting to the C2v point group symmetry can host a mirror (σv) symmetry‐protected Dirac cone along the X–M edge of the Brillouin zone. Then we demonstrate that introducing further circular holes to the graphene sheet can break the mirror symmetry (i.e., reducing C2v symmetry to C1v) and thus gap out the Dirac cone, which allows us to explore the valley and layer‐pseudospin related topological plasmons in these graphene metasurfaces with low point group symmetry. Valley‐locking unidirectional propagations along the domain–wall interface of a single‐layer graphene metasurface and layer‐pseudospin converter in a double‐layer graphene metasurface are explicitly demonstrated for graphene plasmons in the THz range. This work provides a new design principle for exploring Dirac cones, valley, and pseudospin related physics using much lower point‐group symmetries.

Abstract Objective This study introduces innovative strategies, the doublet regimen of concurrent chemoradiotherapy, to ensure longer survival for locoregionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Methods We retrospectively reviewed 104 locoregionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients who underwent taxane combined platinum-based concurrent chemoradiotherapy in our center between January 2013 and December 2018. All statistical analyses were performed using the Kaplan–Meier method (SPSS 23.0). Different groups were compared with the Wilcoxon rank-sum test. Results Ultimately, 104 patients were selected for this study, including 18 and 86 who received either concurrent chemoradiation therapy alone or concurrent chemoradiation therapy plus adjuvant chemotherapy, respectively. The median follow-up time for progression free survival was 53.0 months (IQR 48.5–57.5). The 3-years progression-free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS), local–regional recurrence-free survival (LRRFS) and distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS) rates of the doublet regimen of concurrent chemotherapy for locoregionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma were 85.9%, 96.0%, 96.0% and 90.8%, respectively. Additionally, we analyzed the subgroups and found that the 3-years PFS, OS, LRRFS and DMFS rates for stage III versus stage IVa were 97.8% versus 75.5% (P = 0.000), 100% versus 92.5% (P = 0.004), 100% versus 92.4% (P = 0.015) and 97.8% versus 82.8% (P = 0.002), respectively. During concurrent chemotherapy, acute chemotherapy adverse events of grade 3 or 4 was only 18.3%. Leukopenia was the most common acute chemotherapy adverse event (in 10 patients [9.6%]), followed by neutropenia (in 8 patients [7.6%]). Conclusion The doublet regimen of taxane plus platinum concurrent chemoradiotherapy resulted in improved long-term survival of locoregionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients, especially for local control rate and warrants further prospective evaluation.

Abstract Background We aimed to evaluate the value of using preoperative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features and clinical indicators to predict the early response of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) to transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE). We also aimed to establish a preoperative prediction model. Methods We retrospectively reviewed data of 111 patients with HCC who underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) before the first TACE and underwent MRI or computed tomography between 30 and 60 days after TACE. We used the modified response evaluation criteria in solid tumors for evaluating the TACE response. We used univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses to identify independent predictors based on MRI features and clinical indicators. Moreover, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analyses were performed to assess the diagnostic performance of the prediction model and each independent predictor. Results Among the 111 included patients, 85 were men (76.6%). Patient age was 31–86 years (average age, 61.08 ± 11.50 years). After the first treatment session, 56/111 (50.5%) patients showed an objective response (complete response + partial response), whereas the remaining showed non-response (stable disease + local progressive disease). In the univariate analysis, we identified irregular margins, number of nodules, and satellite nodules as predictors of early objective response. However, in the multivariate logistic regression analysis, irregular margins, number of nodules and pretreatment platelet were identified as the independent predictors of early objective response. A combined prediction model was then established, which factored in irregular margins, the number of nodules, and the pretreatment platelet count. This model showed good diagnostic performance (area under the ROC curve = 0.755), with the sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value being 78.6%, 69.1%, 72.1%, and 76.0%, respectively. Conclusions Irregular margins, the number of nodules and the pretreatment platelet count are independent predictors of the early response of HCC to TACE. Our clinical combined model can provide a superior predictive power to a single indicator.

Abstract Screening corn ear is the key link in the breeding process of new varieties. But manual testing is difficult to measure the proportion of abnormal area. Meanwhile, the abnormal areas are mainly caused by mildew, moth and mechanical collision. A new refined semantic segmentation model was proposed based on the semi‐supervised learning method of generating antagonistic networks (GAN). Besides k‐means algorithm was used to remove a large amount of background information for data preprocessing. By using feature fusion and weighted loss function the model performance was improved. The introduction of transfer learning accelerated model convergence. Through the high‐throughput corn ear collection system, 1448 ear images (including abnormal conditions such as mildew, moth and mechanical damage) were collected and labelled. The proposed method was tested on real corn ear images with an accuracy of 0.950, mean precision of 0.933, mean IoU of 0.884, and FwIoU of 0.908. Experimental results show that the proposed method has better performance than general networks.

During the past decades, rheumatoid arthritis had become a serious problem, torturing millions of patients because of unclear pathogenesis and no ideal therapies. Natural products remain an important source of medicines to treat various major diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA) given their excellent biocompatibility and structural diversity. Herein, we have developed a versatile synthetic method for constructing various skeletons of akuammiline alkaloid analogs based on our previous research on the total synthesis of the related indole alkaloids. We have also evaluated the effect of these analogs on the proliferation of RA fibroblast-like synoviocytes (FLSs) in vitro and analyzed the corresponding structure-activity relationship (SAR). Among these analogs, compounds 9 and 17c have demonstrated a promising inhibitory effect on the proliferation of RA-FLSs, with IC50 values of 3.22 ± 0.29 μM and 3.21 ± 0.31 μM, respectively. Our findings provide a solid foundation for future pharmacological studies on akuammiline alkaloid derivatives and inspiration for the development of anti-RA small molecule drugs derived from natural products.

IntroductionSymbiotic N fixation inhibition induced by N supply to legumes is potentially regulated by the relative N and P availability in soil. However, the specific responses of different legume species to changes in N:P availability remain unclear, and must be better understood to optimize symbiotic N fixation inputs under N enrichment. This study investigated mechanisms by which soil N and P supply influence the symbiotic N fixation of eight legume species, to quantify the inter-specific differences, and to demonstrate how these differences can be determined by the stoichiometric homeostasis in N:P ratios (HN:P).MethodsEight herbaceous legume species were grown separately in outdoor pots and treated with either no fertilizer (control), N fertilizer (14 g N m-2), P fertilizer (3.5 g P m-2) or both N and P fertilizer. Plant nutrients, stoichiometric characteristics, root biomass, non-structural carbohydrates (NSC), rhizosphere chemistry, P mobilization, root nodulation and symbiotic N fixation were measured.ResultsN addition enhanced rhizosphere P mobilization but drove a loss of root biomass and root NSC via exudation of P mobilization compound (organic acid), especially so in treatments without P addition. N addition also induced a 2-14% or 14-36% decline in symbiotic N fixation per plant biomass by legumes in treatments with or without P addition, as a result of decreasing root biomass and root NSC. The changes in symbiotic N fixation were positively correlated with stoichiometric homeostasis of N:P ratios in intact plants without root nodules, regardless of P additions.DiscussionThis study indicates that N addition can induce relative P limitations for growth, which can stimulate rhizosphere P mobilization at the expense of root biomass and carbohydrate concentrations, reducing symbiotic N fixation in legumes. Legume species that had less changes in plant N:P ratio, such as Lespedeza daurica and Medicago varia maintained symbiotic N fixation to a greater extent under N addition.

Dissolved organic matter (DOM) plays a major role in ecological systems, affecting the fate and transportation of iron (Fe) and phosphorus (P). To better understand the geochemical cycling of these components, soil and sediment samples were collected around a reservoir downstream of a typical temperate forest in Northeast China. The DOM fractions from these soils, river, and reservoir sediments were extracted and then characterized by spectroscopic techniques. Comparative characterization data showed that the DOM pool of the Xishan Reservoir was partly autochthonous and derived from runoff and deposition of material in terrestrial ecosystems upstream. Plants have evolved a circadian clock to adapt to ever-changing diel and seasonal environmental conditions. The circadian clock is generally considered an internal system that has evolved to adapt to cyclic environmental cues, especially diel light and temperature changes, which is essential for higher plants as they are sessile organisms. This system receives environmental signals as input pathways which are integrated by circadian core oscillators to synchronize numerous output pathways, such as photosynthesis, the abiotic stress response, metabolism, and development. Extreme temperatures, salinity, and drought stresses cause huge crop losses worldwide, imposing severe pressure on areas of agricultural land. In crop production, the circadian system plays a significant role in determining flowering time and responding to external abiotic stresses. Extensive studies over the last two decades have revealed that the circadian clock can help balance the tradeoff between crop yield-related agronomic traits and adaptation to stress. Herein, we focus on summarizing how the circadian clock coordinates abiotic stress responses and crop yield. We also propose that there might be an urgent need to better utilize circadian biology in the future design of crop breeding to achieve high yields under stress conditions.

Aims: Treatment outcomes for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) using systemic vancomycin and antibacterial cement spacers during two-stage revision arthroplasty remain unsatisfactory. This study explored the efficacy and safety of intra-articular vancomycin injections for PJI control after debridement and cement spacer implantation in a rat model. Methods: Total knee arthroplasty (TKA), MRSA inoculation, debridement, and vancomycin-spacer implantation were performed successively in rats to mimic first-stage PJI during the two-stage revision arthroplasty procedure. Vancomycin was administered intraperitoneally or intra-articularly for two weeks to control the infection after debridement and spacer implantation. Results: Rats receiving intra-articular vancomycin showed the best outcomes among the four treatment groups, with negative bacterial cultures, increased weight gain, increased capacity for weightbearing activities, increased residual bone volume preservation, and reduced inflammatory reactions in the joint tissues, indicating MRSA eradication in the knee. The vancomycin-spacer and/or systemic vancomycin failed to eliminate the MRSA infections following a two-week antibiotic course. Serum vancomycin levels did not reach nephrotoxic levels in any group. Mild renal histopathological changes, without changes in serum creatinine levels, were observed in the intraperitoneal vancomycin group compared with the intra-articular vancomycin group, but no changes in hepatic structure or serum alanine aminotransferase or aspartate aminotransferase levels were observed. No local complications were observed, such as sinus tract or non-healing surgical incisions. Conclusion: Intra-articular vancomycin injection was effective and safe for PJI control following debridement and spacer implantation in a rat model during two-stage revision arthroplasties, with better outcomes than systemic vancomycin administration. ObjectiveTo analyze the feasibility， reliability and validity of the disability assessment for dementia scale for the elderly.MethodsA total of 290 dementia patients from 17 survey sites in 13 districts and counties of Chengdu were enrolled by convenient sampling method， and they were assessed using demographic data inventory， Mini-Mental State Examination （MMSE）， Neuropsychiatric Inventory （NPI）， Physical Self-Maintenance Scale （PSMS） and disability assessment for dementia scale for the elderly. Cronbach's α coefficient， Spearman-Brown coefficient， Guttman split-half coefficient and test-retest reliability were used to evaluate the internal consistency of above scales. Criterion-related validity of the scale was analyzed based on MMSE， NPI and PSMS.ResultsA total of 276 patients （95.17%） completed valid questionnaires. The intraclass correlation coefficient of the total score and each dimension were between 0.828~0.976， the Spearman-Brown coefficient were between 0.790~0.917， the Guttman split-half coefficient were between 0.812~0.857， and the Cronbach’s α coefficient were between 0.737~0.886. Abstract Droplet microfluidics enables compartmentalized reactions in small scales and is utilized for a variety of applications across chemical analysis, material science, and biology. While droplet microfluidics is a successful technology, barriers include high “activation energy” to develop custom applications and complex peripheral equipment. These barriers limit the adoption of droplet microfluidics in labs or prototyping environments. This work demonstrates for the first time an open channel droplet microfluidic system that autonomously generates droplets at low capillary numbers. Hundreds of droplets are produced in a run using only an open channel, pipettes, and a commercially available carrier fluid. Conceptual applications that showcase the process of droplet generation, splitting, transport, incubation, mixing, and sorting are demonstrated. The open nature of the device enables the use of physical tools such as tweezers and styli to directly access the system; with this, a new method of droplet sorting and transfer unique to open systems is demonstrated. This platform offers enhanced usability, direct access to the droplet contents, easy manufacturability, compact footprint, and high customizability. This design is a first step in exploring the space of power‐free open droplet microfluidic systems and provides design rules for similar channel designs.

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal neurodegenerative disease characterized by progressive motor neuron dysfunction and loss. A portion of ALS cases are caused by mutation of the proteasome shuttle factor Ubiquilin 2 (UBQLN2), but the molecular pathway leading from UBQLN2 dysfunction to disease remains unclear. Here, we demonstrate that UBQLN2 regulates the domesticated gag-pol retrotransposon ‘paternally expressed gene 10 (PEG10)’ in human cells and tissues. In cells, the PEG10 gag-pol protein cleaves itself in a mechanism reminiscent of retrotransposon self-processing to generate a liberated ‘nucleocapsid’ fragment, which uniquely localizes to the nucleus and changes the expression of genes involved in axon remodeling. In spinal cord tissue from ALS patients, PEG10 gag-pol is elevated compared to healthy controls. These findings implicate the retrotransposon-like activity of PEG10 as a contributing mechanism in ALS through the regulation of gene expression, and restraint of PEG10 as a primary function of UBQLN2.

In order to realize the efficient removal of sulfamethazine (SMZ) and overcome the recycling difficulty of catalysts in a heterogeneous catalytic ozonation process, low-cost natural zeolite loaded with CeO2 and Fe3O4 (FC/HZ) was synthesized by the co-precipitation method. The FC/HZ catalyst could completely degrade SMZ and realize 39.6% removal of TOC through catalytic ozonation. Moreover, the FC/HZ catalyst exhibited high catalytic ozonation activity under a wide pH range and possessed excellent recyclability (>90%) and stability with a magnet. Based on experiment and material characterization, the possible catalytic mechanism and degradation pathway of SMZ was revealed. In brief, this study offered an effective strategy for preparing recyclable catalysts and eliminating SMZ in aqueous solution.

ObjectiveSpondin-2 (SPON2) is highly expressed in a variety of tumors and has been associated with poor prognosis, but the relationship to triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is unclear. The aim of this study is to investigate the expression of SPON2 in TNBC and its function.MethodsImmunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression of the SPON2 protein in TNBC and in normal tissue adjacent to cancer and breast fibroadenoma. The GEO database GSE76275 dataset was used to study the expression of SPON2 mRNA in TNBC and non-TNBC. ​The expression of SPON2 mRNA was detected by qPCR in TNBC cells MDA-MB-231, non-TNBC breast cancer cells MCF-7, and normal breast cells MCF-10A. ​Kaplan Meier-Plotter database was used to analyze the relationship between SPON2 expression and TNBC prognosis. ​ShRNA lentivirus was used to knock down high expression of SPON2 in TNBC cells. The effects of knockdown of SPON2 expression on the proliferation, migration, invasion, apoptosis, and subcutaneous tumorigenic ability of TNBC cells in nude mice were analyzed using CCK8, clone formation assay, scratch assay, transwell migration assay, transwell invasion assay, Hoechst apoptosis assay, and tumorigenic ability in nude mice. Transcriptome sequencing of TNBC cells with knockdown SPON2 expression. ​In combination with the GEO database, GO and KEGG analyses were performed, and psychophysiological interaction Protein-Protein Interaction Networks (PPI) analysis was performed for transcriptome sequencing of the differentially expressed genes. ​The changes in the expression of PI3K-ATK pathway proteins after SPON2 knockdown were detected by Western blot.ResultsOur study shows that upregulation of SPON2 in TNBC is associated with poorer patient outcomes. Knockdown of SPON2 inhibited TNBC cell proliferation, clone formation, migration, invasion, and tumorigenic ability and promoted apoptosis. Knockdown of SPON2 up-regulated TNBC cell adhesion and down-regulated PI3K-ATK pathway, and PPI results showed that CCL2 was the key protein.ConclusionsSPON2 may be a valuable biomarker for the diagnosis and prognosis of TNBC and is a potential therapeutic target for TNBC.

Terahertz functional devices with high-Q factor play an important role in spectral sensing, security imaging, and wireless communication. The reported terahertz devices based on the electromagnetic induction transparency (EIT) effect cannot meet the needs of high-Q in practical applications due to the low-Q factor. Therefore, to increase the Q-factor of resonance, researchers introduced the concept of bound state in the continuum (BIC). In the quasi-BIC state, the metasurface can be excited by the incident wave and provide resonance with a high-Q factor because the condition that the resonant state of the BIC state is orthogonal is not satisfied. The split ring resonator (SRR) is one of the most representative artificial microstructures in the metasurface field, and it shows great potential in BIC. In this paper, based on the classical single-SRR array structure, we combine the large and small SRR and change the resonance mode of the inner and outer SRR by changing the outer radius of the inner SRR. The metasurface based on parameter-tuned BIC verified that the continuous modulation of parameters in a system could make a pair of resonant states strongly coupled, and the coherent cancellation of the resonant states will cause the linewidth of one of the resonant states to disappear, thus forming BIC. Compared with the single-SRR array metasurface based on symmetry-protected BIC, the dual-SRR array metasurface designed in this paper has multiple accidental BICs and realizes multichannel multiplexing of X-polarization and Y-polarization. It provides a brilliant platform for high-sensitivity optical sensor array, low threshold laser and efficient optical harmonic generation.

Cross-domain object detection is a key problem in the research of intelligent detection models. Different from lots of improved algorithms based on two-stage detection models, we try another way. A simple and efficient one-stage model is introduced in this paper, comprehensively considering the inference efficiency and detection precision, and expanding the scope of undertaking cross-domain object detection problems. We name this gradient reverse layer-based model YOLO-G, which greatly improves the object detection precision in cross-domain scenarios. Specifically, we add a feature alignment branch following the backbone, where the gradient reverse layer and a classifier are attached. With only a small increase in computational, the performance is higher enhanced. Experiments such as Cityscapes→Foggy Cityscapes, SIM10k→Cityscape, PASCAL VOC→Clipart, and so on, indicate that compared with most state-of-the-art (SOTA) algorithms, the proposed model achieves much better mean Average Precision (mAP). Furthermore, ablation experiments were also performed on 4 components to confirm the reliability of the model. The project is available at https://github.com/airy975924806/yolo-G.

Caffeine is a metabolite derived from purine nucleotides, typically accounting for 2–5% of the dry weight of tea and 1–2% of the dry weight of coffee. In the tea and coffee plants, the main synthesis pathway of caffeine is a four-step sequence consisting of three methylation reactions and one nucleosidase reaction using xanthine as a precursor. In bacteria, caffeine degradation occurs mainly through the pathways of N-demethylation and C-8 oxidation. However, a study fully and systematically summarizing the metabolism and application of caffeine in microorganisms has not been established elsewhere. In the present study, we provide a review of the biosynthesis, microbial degradation, gene expression, and application of caffeine microbial degradation. The present review aims to further elaborate the mechanism of caffeine metabolism by microorganisms and explore the development prospects in this field.
