Abstract Electrocatalytic nitrate reduction to ammonia holds great promise for developing green technologies for electrochemical ammonia energy conversion and storage. Considering that real nitrate resources often exhibit low concentrations, it is challenging to achieve high activity in low-concentration nitrate solutions due to the competing reaction of the hydrogen evolution reaction, let alone considering the catalyst lifetime. Herein, we present a high nitrate reduction performance electrocatalyst based on a Co nanosheet structure with a gradient dispersion of Ru, which yields a high NH3 Faraday efficiency of over 93% at an industrially relevant NH3 current density of 1.0 A/cm2 in 2000 ppm NO3 - electrolyte, while maintaining good stability for 720 h under −300 mA/cm2. The electrocatalyst maintains high activity even in 62 ppm NO3 - electrolyte. Electrochemical studies, density functional theory, electrochemical in situ Raman, and Fourier-transformed infrared spectroscopy confirm that the gradient concentration design of the catalyst reduces the reaction energy barrier to improve its activity and suppresses the catalyst evolution caused by the expansion of the Co lattice to enhance its stability. The gradient-driven design in this work provides a direction for improving the performance of electrocatalytic nitrate reduction to ammonia.

Abstract Background Somatic mutations have been observed to induce aldosterone-producing adenomas (APAs). These may be accelerated during pregnancy. Somatic PRKACA mutations are common in cortisol-producing adenomas (CPAs). However, their role in APAs, particularly aldosterone- and cortisol-producing adenomas (A/CPAs), is not well understood. This study aims to investigate the association between PRKACA mutations and the accelerated development of A/CPAs during pregnancy. Case presentation A patient with primary aldosteronism (PA) associated with severe Cushing’s syndrome (CS) underwent surgical resection of an adrenal tumor one year after delivery. Pathologic examination revealed an adrenocortical adenoma characterized primarily by zona glomerulosa hyperplasia. Somatic mutation analysis revealed the presence of the somatic PRKACA mutation, which was validated as a deleterious mutation by various computational databases. Immunohistochemical results showed positive staining for cytochrome P450 family 11 subfamily B member 1 (CYP11B1), cytochrome P450 family 11 subfamily B member 2 (CYP11B2), and luteinizing hormone/chorionic gonadotropin receptor (LHCGR). Our study included a review of 20 previously documented cases of aldosterone- and cortisol-producing adenomas (A/CPAs), two of which were concurrently positive for both CYP11B1 and CYP11B2, consistent with our findings. Conclusion Somatic mutations in PRKACA may correlate with the upregulation of LHCGR, which synergistically drives the accelerated growth of co-secretion tumors during pregnancy, thereby exacerbating disease progression.

Abstract Liver fibrosis is an important pathological process in chronic liver disease and cirrhosis. Recent studies have found a close association between intestinal microbiota and the development of liver fibrosis. To determine whether there are differences in the intestinal microbiota between rhesus macaques with liver fibrosis (MG) and normal rhesus macaques (MN), fecal samples were collected from 8 male MG and 12 male MN. The biological composition of the intestinal microbiota was then detected using 16S rRNA gene sequencing. The results revealed statistically significant differences in ASVs and Chao1 in the alpha-diversity and the beta-diversity of intestinal microbiota between MG and MN. Both groups shared Prevotella and Lactobacillus as common dominant microbiota. However, beneficial bacteria such as Lactobacillus were significantly less abundant in MG (P = 0.02). Predictive functional analysis using PICRUSt2 gene prediction revealed that MG exhibited a higher relative abundance of functions related to substance transport and metabolic pathways. This study may provide insight into further exploration of the mechanisms by which intestinal microbiota affect liver fibrosis and its potential future use in treating liver fibrosis.

Abstract Purpose Diet plays a fundamental role in promoting resilience against stress-related disorders. We aimed to examine the overall and sex-specific association between food groups and perceived stress in adults. Methods We analyzed the prospective data of 7,434 adults who completed both the 2011 and 2015 surveys of the China Health and Nutrition Survey (CHNS). The Diet Quality Questionnaire (DQQ) was used to code all the food items of 2011 dietary intake into 29 food groups, and perceived stress in 2015 was measured using a 14-item perceived stress scale (PSS-14). Univariate analysis and logistic regression models were used to examine the relationship between food groups and perceived stress. Results People who perceived a higher level of stress (PSS-14 total score > 25) made up 41.5% and 45.1% of the male and female groups, respectively (χ2 = 9.605, p = 0.002). Objective: To investigate the characteristics of three-dimensional distribution of subchondral fracture lines on the surface of the osteonecrosis femoral head, and to discuss the underlying mechanisms that contribute to its collapse. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed computed tomography (CT) images from 75 patients (comprising a total of 77 femoral heads) diagnosed with Association Research Circulation Osseous (ARCO) stage IIIA or IIIB femoral head necrosis. The three-dimensional structures of both the femoral head and the subchondral fracture line were reconstructed and subsequently fitted into normal femoral head model. A heat map of fracture line was generated to visualize its spatial distribution across the femoral heads surface.to observe its distribution. In addition to that, the femoral head was partitioned into four zones, and the frequency of each fracture line traversing different zones was calculated and analysed. Results: Highest and lowest density of subchondral fracture lines was demonstrated in anterolateral and posterolateral zone respectively. and most sparse in posterolateral. Furthermore, the three-dimensional heat map of fracture lines highlighted their most frequent occurrence in the anterolateral area, particularly near the junction of the femoral head and neck. Background: The effect of transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS) on major depressive disorder (MDD) was not confirmed. Objective: To evaluate the feasibility, safety, and efficacy of tACS as an add-on treatment for the symptoms of depression and to understand how tACS affects brain activity. Methods: The 4-week, double-blind, randomized, sham-controlled trial was performed from January 29, 2023 to December 22, 2023. Sixty-six participants were recruited and randomly assigned to receive 20 40-min sessions of either active (77.5Hz, 15 mA) or sham stimulation, with one electrode on the forehead and two on the mastoid, each day (n = 33 for each group) for four weeks (till Week 4). The participants were followed for 4 more weeks (till Week 8) without stimulation for efficacy/safety assessment. During the 4-week trial, all participants were required to take 10–20 mg of escitalopram daily. The primary efficacy endpoint was the change in HAMD-17 scores from baseline to Week 4 (with 20 treatment sessions completed). Resting-state electroencephalography (EEG) was collected with a 64-channel EEG system (Brain Products, Germany) at baseline and the Week 4 follow-up. The chi-square test, Fisher's exact test, independent-sample t-test, or Wilcoxon rank-sum test were used, as appropriate, to compare the differences in variables between groups. The effect of the intervention on the HAMD-17 score was also evaluated with linear mixed modeling (LMM) as sensitivity analysis. The correlation between the mean reduction in EEG and the mean reduction in the HAMD-17 total score was evaluated using Spearman correlation analysis. Results: A total of 66 patients (mean [SD] age, 28.4 [8.18] years; 52 [78.8 %] female) were randomized, and 57 patients completed the study. Significant differences were found in the reductions in the HAMD-17 scores at Week 4 (t = 3.44, P = 0.001). Response rates at Week 4 were significantly higher in the active tACS group than in the sham tACS group (22 out of 33 patients [66.7 %] versus 11 out of 33 [33.3 %], P = 0.007). In the active tACS group, a correlation between the mean change in alpha power and HAMD-17 scores at Week 4 was found (r = 2.38, P = 0.024), and the mean change in alpha power was significantly bigger for responders (Z = 2.46, P = 0.014). No serious adverse events were observed in this trial. Conclusion: The additional antidepressant effect of tACS is significant, and the combination of tACS with antidepressants is a feasible and effective approach for the treatment of MDD. The antidepressant mechanism of tACS may be the reduction in alpha power in the left frontal lobe. Future research directions may include exploring more appropriate treatment parameters of tACS.

Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease caused by plaque that destroys the alveolar bone tissues, resulting in tooth loss. Poor eradication of pathogenic microorganisms, persistent malignant inflammation and impaired osteo-/angiogenesis are currently the primary challenges to control disease progression and rebuild damaged alveolar bone. However, existing treatments for periodontitis fail to comprehensively address these issues. Herein, an injectable composite hydrogel (SFD/CS/ZIF-8@QCT) encapsulating quercetin-modified zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8@QCT) is developed. This hydrogel possesses thermo-sensitive and adhesive properties, which can provide excellent flowability and post-injection stability, resist oral fluid washout as well as achieve effective tissue adhesion. Inspirationally, it is observed that SFD/CS/ZIF-8@QCT exhibits a rapid localized hemostatic effect following implantation, and then by virtue of the sustained release of zinc ions and quercetin exerts excellent collective functions including antibacterial, immunomodulation, pro-osteo-/angiogenesis and pro-recruitment, ultimately facilitating excellent alveolar bone regeneration. Notably, our study also demonstrates that the inhibition of osteo-/angiogenesis of PDLSCs under the periodontitis is due to the strong inhibition of energy metabolism as well as the powerful activation of oxidative stress and autophagy, whereas the synergistic effects of quercetin and zinc ions released by SFD/CS/ZIF-8@QCT are effective in reversing these biological processes. Overall, our study presents innovative insights into the advancement of biomaterials to regenerate alveolar bone in periodontitis.

Abstract Objective Clinically significant portal hypertension (CSPH) seriously affects the feasibility and safety of surgical treatment for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients. The aim of this study was to establish a new surgical scheme defining risk classification of post-hepatectomy liver failure (PHLF) to facilitate the surgical decision-making and identify suitable candidates for individual hepatectomy among HCC patients with CSPH. Backgrounds Hepatectomy is the preferred treatment for HCC. Surgeons must maintain a balance between the expected oncological outcomes of HCC removal and short-term risks of severe PHLF and morbidity. CSPH aggravates liver decompensation and increases the risk of severe PHLF thus complicating hepatectomy for HCC. Methods Multivariate logistic regression and stochastic forest algorithm were performed, then the independent risk factors of severe PHLF were included in a nomogram to determine the risk of severe PHLF. Further, a conditional inference tree (CTREE) through recursive partitioning analysis validated supplement the misdiagnostic threshold of the nomogram. Results This study included 924 patients, of whom 137 patients (14.8%) suffered from mild-CSPH and 66 patients suffered from (7.1%) with severe-CSPH confirmed preoperatively. Our data showed that preoperative prolonged prothrombin time, total bilirubin, indocyanine green retention rate at 15 min, CSPH grade, and standard future liver remnant volume were independent predictors of severe PHLF. By incorporating these factors, the nomogram achieved good prediction performance in assessing severe PHLF risk, and its concordance statistic was 0.891, 0.850 and 0.872 in the training cohort, internal validation cohort and external validation cohort, respectively, and good calibration curves were obtained. Moreover, the calculations of total points of diagnostic errors with 95% CI were concentrated in 110.5 (range 76.9-178.5). It showed a low risk of severe PHLF (2.3%), indicating hepatectomy is feasible when the points fall below 76.9, while the risk of severe PHLF is extremely high (93.8%) and hepatectomy should be rigorously restricted at scores over 178.5. Patients with points within the misdiagnosis threshold were further examined using CTREE according to a hierarchic order of factors represented by the presence of CSPH grade, ICG-R15, and sFLR. Conclusion This new surgical scheme established in our study is practical to stratify risk classification in assessing severe PHLF, thereby facilitating surgical decision-making and identifying suitable candidates for individual hepatectomy.

Abstract Background Congenital heart disease (CHD) is the predominant birth defect. This study aimed to explore the association between maternal cardiovascular health (CVH) and the CHD risk in offspring. Methods We used the prospective data from the Fujian Birth Cohort Study, collected from March 2019 to December 2022 on pregnant women within 14 weeks of gestation. Overall maternal CVH was assessed by seven CVH metrics (including physical activity, smoking, sleep duration, body mass index, blood pressure, total cholesterol, and fasting plasma glucose), with each metric classified as ideal, intermediate or poor with specific points. Participants were further allocated into high, moderate and low CVH categories based on the cumulative CVH score. The association with offspring CHD was determined with log-binominal regression models. Results A total of 19810 participants aged 29.7 (SD: 3.9) years were included, with 7846 (39.6%) classified as having high CVH, 10949 (55.3%) as having moderate CVH, and 1015 (5.1%) as having low CVH. The average offspring CHD rate was 2.52%, with rates of 2.35%, 2.52% and 3.84% across the high, moderate and low CVH categories, respectively (P = 0.02). Adjusted relative risks (RRs) of having offspring CHD were 0.64 (95% CI: 0.45-0.90, P = 0.001) for high CVH and 0.67 (95% CI: 0.48-0.93, P = 0.02) for moderate CVH compared to low CVH. For individual metrics, only ideal total cholesterol was significantly associated with lower offspring CHD (RR: 0.73, 95% CI: 0.59-0.83, P = 0.002). Conclusions Pregnant women of high or moderate CVH categories in early pregnancy had reduced risks of CHD in offspring, compared to those of low CVH. It is important to monitor and improve CVH during pre-pregnancy counseling and early prenatal care.

Abstract Double-sided microlens arrays (DSMLAs) include combinations of two single-sided MLAs to overcome positioning errors and greatly improve light transmissivity compared to other types of lenses. Precision glass molding (PGM) is used to fabricate DSMLAs, but controlling alignment errors during this process is challenging. In this paper, a mold assembly was manufactured with a novel combination of materials to improve the alignment accuracy of mold cores during PGM by using the nonlinear thermal expansion characteristics of the various materials to improve the DSMLA alignment accuracy. By establishing a mathematical model of the DSMLA alignment error and a thermal expansion model of the mold-sleeve pair, the relationship between the maximum alignment error of the DSMLA and the mold-sleeve gap was determined. This research provides a method to optimize the mold-sleeve gap and minimize the alignment error of the DSMLA. The measured DSMLA alignment error was 10.56 μm, which is similar to the predicted maximum alignment error. Optical measurements showed that the uniformity of the homogenized beam spot was 97.81%, and the effective homogeneous area accounted for 91.66% of the total area. This proposed method provides a novel strategy to improve the performance of DSMLAs.

How to preserve the complementary information in multiple images to represent the scene in one image is a challenging topic. Based on this topic, various image fusion methods have been proposed. As an important branch of image fusion, infrared and visible image fusion (IVIF) has a wide range of applications in segmentation, target detection and military reconnaissance fields. In recent years, deep learning has led the development direction of image fusion. Researchers have explored the field of IVIF using deep learning. Relevant experimental work has proven that applying deep learning to achieving IVIF has significant advantages compared with traditional methods. This paper provides a detailed analysis on the advanced algorithms for IVIF based on deep learning. Firstly, this paper reports on the current research status from the aspects of network architecture, method innovation, and limitations. Secondly, this paper introduces the commonly used datasets in IVIF methods and provides the definition of commonly used evaluation metrics in quantitative experiments. Qualitative and quantitative evaluation experiments of fusion and segmentation and fusion efficiency analysis experiments are conducted on some representative methods mentioned in the paper to comprehensively evaluate the performance of the methods. Finally, this paper provides conclusions and prospects for possible future research directions in the field.

Background: Mitochondrial dysfunction and metabolic reprogramming can lead to the development and progression of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Ferredoxin 1 (FDX1) is a small mitochondrial protein and recent studies have shown that FDX1 plays an important role in tumor cuproptosis, but its role in HCC is still elusive. In this study, we aim to investigate the expression and novel functions of FDX1 in HCC. Methods: FDX1 expression was first analyzed in publicly available datasets and verified by immunohistochemistry, qRT-PCR and Western blot. In vitro and in vivo experiments were applied to explore the functions of FDX1. Non-targeted metabolomics and RNA-sequencing were used to determine molecular mechanism. mRFP-GFP-LC3 lentivirus transfection, Mito-Tracker Red and Lyso-Tracker Green staining, transmission electron microscopy, flow cytometry, JC-1 staining, etc. were used to analyze mitophagy or ROS levels. Hydrodynamic tail vein injection (HTVi) and patient-derived organoid (PDO) models were used to analyze effect of FDX1 overexpression. Results: FDX1 expression is significantly downregulated in HCC tissues. FDX1 downregulation promotes HCC cell proliferation, invasion in vitro and growth, metastasis in vivo. In addition, FDX1 affects metabolism of HCC cells and is associated with autophagy. We then confirmed that FDX1 deficiency increases ROS levels, activates mitophagy and the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway in HCC cells. Interestingly, scavenging ROS attenuates the tumor-promoting role and mitophagy of FDX1 downregulation. The results of HTVi and PDO models both find that FDX1 elevation significantly inhibits HCC progression. Moreover, low FDX1 expression is associated with shorter survival and is an independent risk factor for prognosis in HCC patients. Conclusions: Our research had investigated novel functions of FDX1 in HCC. Downregulation of FDX1 contributes to metabolic reprogramming and leads to ROS-mediated activation of mitophagy and the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway. FDX1 is a potential prognostic biomarker and increasing FDX1 expression may be a potential therapeutic approach to inhibit HCC progression.

BackgroundPerioperative neurocognitive disorder (PND) is a critical concern for older patients undergoing cardiac surgery, impacting cognitive function and quality of life. Electroacupuncture and transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation (TEAS) hold promise for mitigating PND. This protocol outlines a systematic review and meta-analysis to thoroughly assess the efficacy of electroacupuncture and TEAS in older patients undergoing cardiac surgery with PND, providing up-to-date evidence for PND prevention and treatment. ObjectiveThis study aimed to thoroughly assess the efficacy of electroacupuncture and TEAS in older patients undergoing cardiac surgery with PND, providing up-to-date evidence for PND prevention and treatment. MethodsA comprehensive and systematic approach will be used to identify eligible studies from a diverse range of electronic databases, including 9 major sources such as PubMed (NLM) and Cochrane (Wiley), as well as 2 clinical trial registration websites. These studies will focus on investigating the effects of electroacupuncture and TEAS on PND in older patients undergoing cardiac surgery. The study selection will adhere to the criteria outlined in the patient, intervention, comparison, outcome, and studies (PICOS) format. Data extraction will be carried out by 2 independent researchers (YP and LS), using established tools to evaluate the risk of bias. The primary outcome will be PND incidence, with secondary outcomes including Mini Mental State Examination scores, neuron-specific enolase, S100β, interleukin-1β, interleukin-6, tumor necrosis factor-α, time to first flatus, first defecation, bowel sound recovery, and hospitalization duration to be selectively reported. Adverse events linked to acupuncture, such as bleeding, needle site pain, and local reactions, rather than serious adverse events, will also be considered. Meta-analysis will be performed using appropriate statistical methods to assess the overall effect of electroacupuncture and TEAS on PND prevention, treatment, or other relevant outcomes. The Cochrane Collaboration Risk of Bias tool will be used for assessment, and data synthesis will be executed using the RevMan 5.4 software (Cochrane). ResultsWe plan to summarize the eligible studies through the use of a PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) flowchart. The findings will be showcased in the form of a summary table of evidence. Figures and forest plots will be used to illustrate the outcomes of the meta-analysis. ConclusionsThe impacts of electroacupuncture and TEAS interventions on PND in older patients undergoing cardiac surgery have not yet been established. This protocol addresses a critical gap by thoroughly assessing electroacupuncture and TEAS for PND in older patients undergoing cardiac surgery, enhancing understanding of nonpharmacological interventions, and guiding future research and clinical practices in this field. IntroductionClubroot disease is a devastating soil borne disease caused by infection with Plasmodiophora brassicae, which primarily affects cruciferous plants. The microbial diversity of the soil is an essential indicator of its quality.MethodsThis study measured the physicochemical properties of the soil to study the effect of its microbial diversity on the infection of oilseed rape with P. brassicae. High-throughput sequences of the soil bacteria and fungi in the inter-root soils of P. brassicae were analyzed under different treatment conditions.ResultsIn the study, it was found that the efficiency of strain X216 in preventing and controlling the root disease of rapeseed was positively correlated with the amount of solution used to irrigate the root system. The results of the greenhouse and field trials showed that the efficiency of strain X216 against the root disease of rapeseed was 43.16% in the field and 62.14% in the greenhouse. Proteobacteria, Chloroflexi, Rozellomycota, and Basidiomycota are critical phylum in the development of clubroot disease. The application of biocontrol increased the relative abundance of Actinobacteria, Bacillus, Mesorhizobium, Mycobacterium, Streptomyces and Filobasidium, which affected the structure and abundance of microbial communities. A principal coordinate analysis showed that the microbial structure in the soil varied substantially in the bacterial community, and there was no significant difference in soil structure in the fungal community.DiscussionThe occurrence of clubroot disease affected the structure of inter-root microbial community composition in the soil, which resulted in a decrease in its community diversity. The application of the biocontrol bacterium X216 increased the soil microbial diversity. It effectively reduced the occurrence of P. brassicae, and this study provides a basis to study the microbial diversity in cruciferous crops.

Climate change and human activities have increased droughts, especially overgrazing and deforestation, which seriously threaten the balance of terrestrial ecosystems. The ecological carrying capacity and vegetation cover in the arid zone of Xinjiang, China, are generally low, necessitating research on vegetation response to drought in such arid regions. In this study, we analyzed the spatial and temporal characteristics of drought in Xinjiang from 2001 to 2020 and revealed the response mechanism of SIF to multi-timescale drought in different vegetation types using standardized precipitation evapotranspiration index (SPEI), solar-induced chlorophyll fluorescence (SIF), normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), and enhanced vegetation index (EVI) data. We employed trend analysis, standardized anomaly index (SAI), Pearson correlation, and trend prediction techniques. Our investigation focused on the correlations between GOSIF (a new SIF product based on the Global Orbital Carbon Observatory-2), NDVI, and EVI with SPEI12 for different vegetation types over the past two decades. Additionally, we examined the sensitivities of vegetation GOSIF to various scales of SPEI in a typical drought year and predicted future drought trends in Xinjiang. The results revealed that the spatial distribution characteristics of GOSIF, normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), and enhanced vegetation index (EVI) were consistent, with mean correlations with SPEI at 0.197, 0.156, and 0.128, respectively. GOSIF exhibited the strongest correlation with SPEI, reflecting the impact of drought stress on vegetation photosynthesis. Therefore, GOSIF proves advantageous for drought monitoring purposes. Most vegetation types showed a robust response of GOSIF to SPEI at a 9-month scale during a typical drought year, with grassland GOSIF being particularly sensitive to drought. Our trend predictions indicate a decreasing trend in GOSIF vegetation in Xinjiang, coupled with an increasing trend in drought. This study found that compared with that of the traditional greenness vegetation index, GOSIF has obvious advantages in monitoring drought in the arid zone of Xinjiang. Furthermore, it makes up for the lack of research on the mechanism of vegetation GOSIF response to drought on multiple timescales in the arid zone. These results provide strong theoretical support for investigating the monitoring, assessment, and prediction of vegetation response to drought in Xinjiang, which is vital for comprehending the mechanisms of carbon and water cycles in terrestrial ecosystems.

Abstract Periodontal disease ranks third among noncommunicable illnesses, behind cancer and cardiovascular disease, and is closely related to the occurrence and progression of various systemic diseases. However, elucidating the processes of periodontal disease and promoting periodontal bone regeneration remains a challenge. Here, quercetin is demonstrated to reduce the oxidative stress state of orofacial mesenchymal stem cells (OMSCs) in vitro and to affect the osteogenic growth of OMSCs through molecular mechanisms that mediate the m6A change in Per1. Nevertheless, the limited therapeutic efficacy of systemic medication and the limitations of local medication resulting from the small, moist, and highly dynamic periodontal environment make it challenging to treat periodontal tissues with medication. Herein, a biosafe injectable hydrogel drug‐controlled delivery system is constructed as a bone‐enhancing factory and loaded with quercetin to treat oxidative stress injury in periodontal tissues. This drug‐carrying system made up of nanoscale bioglass microspheres and a light‐cured injectable hydrogel, allows effective drug particle loading and cementation in the dynamic and moist periodontal environment. Furthermore, the system demonstrates the ability to stimulate OMSCs osteogenic differentiation in a Per1‐dependent manner, which ultimately promotes periodontal bone repair, suggesting that this system has potential for clinical periodontal therapy.

ObjectiveThe aim of our study was to explore the relationship between changes in neural oscillatory power in the EEG, the severity of depressive-anxiety symptoms, and the risk of suicide in MDD.Methods350 MDD patients’ demographic and clinical data were collected, and their depressive and anxious symptoms were evaluated using HDRS-17 and HAMA-14, along with a suicide risk assessment using the Nurses’ Global Assessment of Suicide Risk (NGASR). EEG data were captured, processed, and analyzed to study brain activity patterns related to MDD. The participants were divided based on suicide risk levels, and statistical analyses, including chi-square, t-tests, Pearson’s correlations were used to explore the associations between brain activity, symptom severity, and suicide risk. Closely related variables were identified and ultimately the optimal model was screened using stepwise regression analysis with a forward strategy, and mediation effects were further used to determine the possible interactions between the variables in the regression model.ResultsThe regression model showed a significant effect of HDRS-17 and alpha power of Medial Occipital Cortex (MOC) on suicide risk, with elevated HDRS-17 increasing suicide risk and elevated alpha power decreasing suicide risk. Mediation effect analyses showed that MOC alpha power partially mediated the effect of depression level on suicide risk, and that an increase in depression severity may lead to a decrease in MOC alpha power, while a decrease in MOC alpha power may lead to an increase in suicide risk.ConclusionThe severity of depression directly increases suicide risk, whereas higher alpha power in the MOC serves as a protective factor, reducing this risk. Notably, MOC alpha power not only directly impacts suicide risk but also mediates the effects of both depression severity and anxiety levels on this risk.LimitationsThe relatively small sample size of this study may limit the representativeness of the overall MDD patient population and the detailed analysis of different subgroups. This study did not delve into the relationship between the severity of cognitive symptoms in MDD patients and suicide risk.

Abstract Giant undulations (GUs) have been well established to be the optical manifestation of the plasmapause surface wave (PSW) where the wave‐particle interactions provide particle sources to generate auroras. However, their detailed particles precipitation signatures in the ionosphere remain unclear. Here we analyze multi‐satellite conjugated observations in the ionosphere during a prominent GUs event, revealing the two‐zone precipitation pattern including energetic proton precipitations responsible for the main body of GUs and low‐energy electron precipitations for the edge of GUs. Interestingly, the occurrence of GUs is also accompanied with high‐energy particles precipitations of hundreds of keV and magnetic disturbances of three components. The sizes of sawtooth in the GUs correlate positively with the strength of adjacent subauroral polarization streams (SAPS). The two‐zone precipitation pattern and high‐energy particles precipitation over GUs are potentially related to the plasma sheet and very‐low frequency wave (VLF) modulation of the PSW, respectively.

IntroductionStevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) are rare yet life-threatening adverse events associated with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs). This systematic review synthesizes the current literature to elucidate the clinical characteristics and outcomes of patients with ICI-related SJS/TEN.MethodsWe conducted a thorough search across databases including Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane, MEDLINE, Scopus, and PubMed. Selection criteria focused on reports of SJS/TEN among cancer patients treated with ICIs, analyzing clinical manifestations, therapeutic interventions, and outcomes.ResultsOur analysis included 47 articles involving 50 patients with ICI-related SJS/TEN. The cohort had a mean age of 63 years, with a slight male predominance (54%). Most patients had melanoma or non-small cell lung cancer. SJS/TEN typically occurred early, with a median onset of 23 days post-ICI initiation. Treatment primarily involved systemic corticosteroids and intravenous immunoglobulins. The overall mortality rate was 20%, higher for TEN at 32%, with infections and tumor progression as leading causes. Median time from onset to death was 28 days. Survivors experienced a median re-epithelization time of 30 days, positively correlated with the extent of epidermal detachment (rs = 0.639, p = 0.009). Deceased patients exhibited a significantly higher proportion of TEN (90% vs. 48%, p = 0.029) and a larger epidermal detachment area (90% vs. 30% of the body surface area [BSA], p = 0.005) compared to survivors. The combination therapy group showed a higher proportion of TEN compared to corticosteroid monotherapy or non-corticosteroid therapy groups (72% vs. 29% and 50%, p = 0.01), with no significant differences in mortality or re-epithelization time. Dual ICI therapy resulted in a higher TEN rate than single therapy (100% vs. 50%, p = 0.028). Among single ICI therapies, the sintilimab-treated group trended towards a higher TEN rate (75% vs. 40-50%, p = 0.417), a larger detachment area (90% vs. 30-48% of BSA, p = 0.172), and a longer re-epithelization time (44 vs. 14-28 days, p = 0.036) compared to other ICI groups, while mortality rates remained similar.ConclusionICI-related SJS/TEN substantially impacts patient outcomes. Prospective clinical trials are critically needed to further clarify the pathogenesis and optimize therapeutic regimens.

Background: The tumor microenvironment (TME) plays an important role in cancer development; however, its implications in lung squamous cell carcinoma (LUSC) and pan-cancer have been poorly understood. Methods: In this study, The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Estimation of Stromal and Immune cells in Malignant Tumor tissue using Expression Data (ESTIMATE) datasets were applied to identify differentially expressed genes. Additionally, online public databases were utilized for in-depth bioinformatics analysis of pan-cancer datasets to investigate the prognostic implications of TME-related genes further. Results: Our study demonstrated a significant association between stromal scores, immune scores, and specific clinical characteristics in LUSC patients. C3AR1, CSF1R, CCL2, CCR1, and CD14 were identified as prognostic genes related to the TME. All TME-related prognostic genes demonstrated varying degrees of correlation with immune infiltration subtypes and tumor cell stemness. Moreover, our study revealed that TME-related prognostic genes, particularly C3AR1 and CCR1, might contribute to drug resistance in cancer cells. Conclusions: The identified TME-related prognostic genes, particularly C3AR1 and CCR1, have potential implications for understanding and targeting drug resistance mechanisms in cancer cells.

More and more evidence has showed that low glycaemic index (GI) diet was a benefit to the Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM). However, the detailed mechanism was not clear. Here, we detected the effects of low-GI diet on the HFD/STZ-induced T2DM rats model. Our results showed that low-GI diet significantly decreased triglyceride and glucose level in the serum of T2DM rats, and increased the level of insulin and C-peptide in T2DM rats. Besides, low-GI diet also increased Bacteroidota at the phylum level. And at the genus level, low-GI diet promoted the proliferation of the abundance of Turicibacter, Lactobacillus, Desulfovibrio, Prevotellaceae, Lachnospiraceae, Monoglobus, Xylanophilum and Roseburia. Abstract Objective The association between heart failure (HF) and intestinal inflammation caused by a disturbed intestinal microbiota in infants with congenital heart disease (CHD) was investigated. Methods Twenty infants with HF and CHD who were admitted to our hospital between October 2021 and March 2022 were included in this study. Twenty age- and sex-matched infants without HF at our hospital were selected as the control group. Abstract Objective To evaluate the efficacy of high-flow nasal cannula oxygenation (HFNC) versus non-invasive ventilation (NIV) in pediatric patients post-congenital heart surgery (CHS) through a meta-analysis. Methods A comprehensive literature search was conducted across the Chinese biomedical literature database, Vip database, CNKI, Wanfang, PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science until December 20, 2022. We selected RCTs or cohort studies that met inclusion criteria for a meta-analysis using RevMan 5.4 software. Results Our search yielded five publications, comprised of one randomized controlled trial and four cohort studies. Meta-analysis revealed a significant reduction in reintubation rates in children post-CHS treated with HFNC as compared to NIV [RR = 0.36, 95%CI(0.25 ~ 0.53), P 0.05). Furthermore, both groups showed no significant difference in the duration of extracorporeal circulation [MD = -8.27, 95%CI(-17.16 ~ 0.62), P = 0.07]. Conclusions For pediatric patients post-CHS, HFNC appears to be more effective than NIV in reducing reintubation rates and shortening the CICU stay.

Abstract Brexucabtagene autoleucel CAR-T therapy is highly efficacious in overcoming resistance to Bruton’s tyrosine kinase inhibitors (BTKi) in mantle cell lymphoma. However, many patients relapse post CAR-T therapy with dismal outcomes. To dissect the underlying mechanisms of sequential resistance to BTKi and CAR-T therapy, we performed single-cell RNA sequencing analysis for 66 samples from 25 patients treated with BTKi and/or CAR-T therapy and conducted in-depth bioinformatics™ analysis. Our analysis revealed that MYC activity progressively increased with sequential resistance. HSP90AB1 (Heat shock protein 90 alpha family class B member 1), a MYC target, was identified as early driver of CAR-T resistance. CDK9 (Cyclin-dependent kinase 9), another MYC target, was significantly upregulated in Dual-R samples. Both HSP90AB1 and CDK9 expression were correlated with MYC activity levels. Pharmaceutical co-targeting of HSP90 and CDK9 synergistically diminished MYC activity, leading to potent anti-MCL activity. Collectively, our study revealed that HSP90-MYC-CDK9 network is the primary driving force of therapeutic resistance.

Abstract Aliphatic allylic amines are common in natural products and pharmaceuticals. The oxidative intermolecular amination of C(sp3)-H bonds represents one of the most straightforward strategies to construct these motifs. However, the utilization of widely internal alkenes with amines in this transformation remains a synthetic challenge due to the inefficient coordination of metals to internal alkenes and excessive coordination with aliphatic and aromatic amines, resulting in decreasing the reactivity of the catalyst. Here, we present a regioselective Cu-catalyzed oxidative allylic C(sp3)-H amination of internal olefins with azodiformates to these problems. A removable bidentate directing group is used to control the regiochemistry and stabilize the π-allyl-metal intermediate. Noteworthy is the dual role of azodiformates as both a nitrogen source and an electrophilic oxidant for the allylic C-H activation. This protocol features simple conditions, remarkable scope and functional group tolerance as evidenced by >40 examples and exhibits high regioselectivity and excellent E/Z selectivity.

Abstract Background To observe the effects of conventional theatre nursing combined with transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation (TEAS) on postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) in elderly total knee arthroplasty (TKA) patients. Methods Forty elderly TKA patients were randomly divided into a conventional nursing (control) group and a TEAS group. Using conventional nursing, TEAS was used to stimulate the “Zusanli” and “Sanyinjiao” in the healthy leg of patients in the TEAS group. All patients received mini-mental (MMSE) scores 1 day before surgery (T0) and 1, 3, and 7 days after surgery (T1, T3, T7). Plasma levels of interleukin-1 (IL-1β), interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor (TNF-α), and S100β were measured using venous blood samples. Abstract Airway mucous cell metaplasia and mucous hypersecretion is one of the key characteristic pathophysiological status of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). micro(mi)RNAs are acknowledged as non‐encoding RNA molecules playing important roles in gene expression regulation. In this study, we searched the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database for the differentially expressed miRNAs between COPD and non‐COPD controls with bioinformatics analysis. Finally, we focused on miR‐513a‐5p and investigated the potential mechanism by which miR‐513a‐5p regulates airway mucous hypersecretion and goblet cell metaplasia. A dual‐luciferase reporter assay was then showing that miR‐513a‐5p targeted the 3′‐UTR of TFR1 and inhibited its expression in vitro. In vivo transfection demonstrated that TFR1 downregulation partially blocked MUC5AC hypersecretion and goblet cell hyperplasia in COPD model rats. In vitro study, CSE increased the intracellular expression and secretion of MUC5AC by BEAS‐2B branchial epithelial cells in the BEAS‐2B cell and THP‐1 cell coculture system. Coculture with either miR‐513a‐5p mimic‐pretreated or TFR1‐deficient THP‐1 cells attenuated intracellular MUC5AC expression in BEAS‐2B cells exposed to CSE. ELISA demonstrated that transfection of TFR1 siRNA or pretreatment with miR‐513a‐5p mimic reduced the secretion of inflammatory factors that are responsible for airway goblet cell hyperplasia, such as IL‐1β, IL‐13, and IL‐17, by THP‐1 cells after CSE stimulation. Our findings supported that miR‐513a‐5p/TFR1 signaling axis might activate macrophages as well as promote airway inflammation and airway mucous cell hyperplasia in COPD.

Background Focused ultrasound ablation surgery (FUAS) has been widely employed to treat patients with uterine fibroid (UF). This study aimed to estimate myometrial stiffness changes in patients who received FUAS for UFs or myomectomy (ME) and compare the recovery of surrounding myometrium between FUAS and ME groups. Our results may provide more evidence for guiding the proper conception timing in patients with UF.Methods This study enrolled 173 patients from May 2022 to August 2023. Shear wave elastography (SWE) was used to dynamically monitor myometrial elasticity changes in patients before and after surgery. Moreover, our study monitored and analyzed the stiffness changes in the targeted fibroid after FUAS, as well as in the myometrium around after FUAS or ME.Results The stiffness of the myometrium around the resected fibroid was significantly higher than at the preoperative level until 6 months. Conversely, the stiffness of the surrounding myometrium was only temporarily increased 1 day after FUAS. The comparison between FUAS and ME groups regarding the stiffness of the surrounding myometrium showed that nonsignificant differences were detected between the two groups before the treatment. The stiffness of the surrounding myometrium in the ME group was statistically significantly higher than that of the FUAS group 1 day as well as 1, 3, and 6 months after the treatment, respectively.Conclusion The FUAS had less impact on the surrounding myometrium than the ME, which may be more conducive to the recovery of myometrial elasticity in patients with UF.

AbstractPolygalacturonase inhibiting proteins (PGIPs) are typical leucine-rich repeat (LRR) proteins that inhibit the activity of polygalacturonase (PG) in pathogens, but their function in promoting to plant stem development has been less studied. In this study, the PGIP gene from Zea mays was cloned and heterologously expressed in Arabidopsis thaliana, and then the plant phenotypes were observed and a set of physiological and biochemical indicators were measured. The results indicate that the ZmPGIP1 protein is expressed both in the cell membrane and cell wall. Our research observed that the heterologous expression of ZmPGIP1 significantly increased the production of lignin, cellulose and hemicellulose in transgenic lines. The stems of transgenic plants also showed a thicker cortical tissue. The increase in lignin deposition observed during histochemical staining suggests that the ZmPGIP1 gene may improve plant mechanical strength. These were tightly associated with the upregulated expression of lignin/cellulose-synthesis genes (C4H, C3H, F5H, PAL1/3, CCR1, CAD1-3/9, CCOMT, MYB58, CESA1/10) to enhance plant cell wall strength in transgenic lines. Our findings provide new perspectives on the growth regulation mechanisms of PGIP proteins in plant cell walls and provide a potential candidate gene for breeding increased disease-resistance and higher cellulose production in plants.

Data augmentation is an important task of using existing data to expand data sets. Using generative countermeasure network technology to realize data augmentation has the advantages of high-quality generated samples, simple training, and fewer restrictions on the number of generated samples. However, in the field of transmission line insulator images, the freely synthesized samples are prone to produce fuzzy backgrounds and disordered samples of the main insulator features. To solve the above problems, this paper uses cycle generative adversarial network (Cycle-GAN) used for domain conversion in the generation countermeasure network as the initial framework and uses the self-attention mechanism and the channel attention mechanism to assist the conversion to realize the mutual conversion of different insulator samples. The attention module with prior knowledge is used to build the generation countermeasure network, and the GAN model with local controllable generation is built to realize the directional generation of insulator belt defect samples. The experimental results show that the samples obtained by this method are improved in a number of quality indicators, and the quality effect of the samples obtained is excellent, which has a reference value for the data expansion of insulator images.

People tend to obtain information through fragmented reading. However, this behavior itself might lead to distraction and affect cognitive ability. To address it, it is necessary to understand how fragmented reading behavior influences readers’ attention switching. In this study, the researchers first collected online news that had 6 theme words and 60 sentences to compose the experimental material, then defined the degree of text dissimilarity, used to measure the degree of attention switching based on the differences in text content, and conducted an EEG experiment based on P200. The results showed that even after reading the fragmented text content with the same overall content, people in subsequent cognitive tasks had more working memory capacity, lower working memory load, and less negative impact on cognitive ability with the text content with lower text dissimilarity. Additionally, attention switching caused by differences in concept or working memory representation of text content might be the key factor affecting cognitive ability in fragmented reading behavior. The findings disclosed the relation between cognitive ability and fragmented reading and attention switching, opening a new perspective on the method of text dissimilarity. This study provides some references on how to reduce the negative impact of fragmented reading on cognitive ability on new media platforms.

BackgroundSlow flow/no-reflow (SF-NR) during percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is associated with poor prognosis of patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Currently, effective treatment is not available for SF-NR. Electroacupuncture (EA) has shown significant efficacy as an adjuvant therapy for many cardiovascular diseases by improving microcirculation and reducing ischemia-reperfusion injury. However, its effects on SF-NR in the AMI patients during PCI are not clear. This pilot trial aims to determine the efficacy of intraoperative EA in alleviating SF-NR in AMI patients undergoing PCI.MethodsThis prospective, single-center, randomized controlled, pilot trial will recruit 60 AMI patients scheduled for PCI at the Yueyang Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, China. The patients will be randomized in a 1:1 ratio into the EA or the control groups. Patients in the control group will undergo standard PCI. Patients in the EA group will undergo intraoperative electroacupuncture while undergoing standard PCI. Incidence of SF-NR is the primary outcome for this study. This study will also assess secondary outcomes including cardiac biomarkers, inflammatory biomarkers, pain and anxiety scores, electrocardiography parameters, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) symptom score, and major adverse cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events (MACCE). All the included patients will undergo laboratory tests including routine blood tests, levels of electrolytes, as well as liver and renal function tests. Patients will be followed up for 1 month after the procedure.DiscussionThis pilot trial will provide evidence for the potential benefits of intraoperative EA in improving microvascular perfusion and preventing or alleviating SF-NR during PCI in patients with AMI. If proven effective, intraoperative EA will provide a new and effective strategy against SF-NR and provide evidence for subsequent multicenter trials.Clinical Trial RegistrationClinicalTrials.gov, identifier (ChiCTR2300072265). Landscape ecological risk is the term used to describe potential negative effects of the relationship between environmental processes and landscape structure as a result of both natural and human interactions. The scientific assessment of past and prediction future ecological risks to landscapes is the basis for achieving sustainable regional development. In this study, we built an ecological risk measurement system characterized by variability in landscape composition to reflect the components of landscape ecological risk. In particular, the CA-Markov model was used to simulate the spatial pattern of land use in the Sanjiang Plain, China, under a wetland protection scenario. The evolution of the spatiotemporal land use trend in the study area was then analyzed for past (2011–2021) and future (2021–2036) periods. The results identified that construction land, farmland, water, and grassland areas exhibited an increasing trend from 2011 to 2021, while forest and wetland areas decreased each year. From 2021 to 2036, the grassland areas exhibited a downward trend, while the other land use types maintained the same previous trend, and all land use types experienced a slowdown in the degree of change. The major landscape ecological risk levels in the research region changed from medium-risk and low-risk levels (2011–2021) to low-risk and lower-risk levels (2021–2036). An evident decrease in risk is observed for farmland and construction land in the mid-region of the research district and forests in the south. In contrast, high-risk and higher-risk levels regions were smaller and distributed in the Songhua River basin in the northeast of the research region, wetland nature reserves, and the Xingkai Lake area, with an overall reduction of 59%. Based on the results, we propose several risk prevention and control management strategies. This research acts as a basis for determining Sanjiang Plain's future rational distribution of land resources and provides an example for the reduction of ecological risks in similar regions.
