Objective: To present the comprehensive methodology for generating personalized three-dimensional (3D) printed uterine models from 3D ultrasound (US) volumes in individuals diagnosed with Müllerian anomalies and discuss potential applications in the field of reproductive endocrinology and infertility. Design: Pilot study. Setting: Single large university-affiliated teaching hospital. Patient(s): Patients with the presence of a Müllerian anomaly between the ages of 18 and 45 years attending the maternal-fetal medicine as well as reproductive endocrinology and infertility outpatient offices from 2018 to 2023 were included in the study. Intervention(s): Subjects underwent 3D US transvaginal scanning for the collection of data. The 3D US volumes were acquired, edited, and exported from a US cart Voluson E10 system (GE Healthcare, Chicago, IL). High-definition virtual models were created and modified, making them suitable for printing using Materialise 3-Matic Medical (Materialise NV, Leuven, Belgium). The models were printed on a J5 MediJet 3D printer (Stratasys, Rehovot, Israel). Colors were set to mimic a realistic appearance, and shore values were set before printing. Main Outcome Measure(s): Successful creation and utilization of personalized 3D-printed uterine models for individuals with Müllerian anomalies. Results(s): Three-dimensional models were created for a uterus without anomalies, 2 variations of a partial septum, a unicornuate, and a didelphys uterus. Models were used as a tactile and customized tool for patient education, counseling, and medical student and resident teaching. This technique illustrates that the creation of personalized 3D-printed uterine models for utilization in the fields of reproductive endocrinology and infertility is feasible. Conclusion(s): We propose a novel use of individualized 3D-printed uterine models in the evaluation of individuals with Müllerian anomalies. These models may play a complementary role to standard imaging options in the assessment of these anomalies, with a special potential for application in highly complex or yet-to-be-determined types of anomalies.

(1) Background: Multiple point-of-care (POC) glucometers are in use in veterinary medicine, but few are compared to each other. This leaves the potential for clinicians to be unaware of the effect of bias when comparing results from different POC glucometers. (2) Methods: Samples from healthy calves and ewes were simultaneously compared with two POC veterinary glucometers, the Precision Xtra and the AlphaTrak2, under both the “canine” and “feline” settings. The results of each sample were statistically analyzed with linear regression and Bland–Altman analysis. (3) Results: 170 samples from healthy calves and 108 samples from healthy ewes were available for comparison. Calves: The AT2 consistently overestimated blood glucose concentrations when compared to the PX device with the calves. Correlationt with the PX was r = 0.8496 (canine setting) and r = 0.8861 (feline setting). Both the canine and feline settings demonstrated a consistent bias (41.11 and 33.64 mg/dL, respectively). Ewes: The AT2 consistently overestimated blood glucose concentrations when compared to the PX device with the ewes. Correlation with the PX was R = 0.4710 (canine setting) and R = 0.7269 (feline setting). Both the canine and feline settings demonstrated a consistent bias (21.23 and 14.54 mg/dL, respectively). (4) Clinicians should be aware of the potential for consistent bias when evaluating calf and sheep blood glucose concentrations as the AT2 device, at both settings, overestimated blood glucose compared to the previously validated PX. This reliability appears to change when the values are farther from the normal ranges, which should be considered when making clinical decisions based on data from these devices.

Abstract Background The NFLymSI-18 is a patient-reported outcome measure comprised of the highest priority symptoms, emotional concerns, treatment side effects, and other concerns identified by lymphoma patients and oncologists. This study assessed the content validity of the NFLymSI-18 for patients with indolent B-cell non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (iNHL), with a focus on the Disease-Related Symptoms Physical (DRS-P) subscale. Methods Patients with a confirmed iNHL diagnosis who had received one or more lines of treatment were recruited during clinic visits. Patients described their symptoms, treatment side effects, and emotional concerns related to iNHL in a semi-structured interview. Qualitative data were analyzed using NVivo10. Results Data saturation was obtained by the 18th interview. Most participants (67%) had follicular lymphoma. 28% of participants had marginal zone lymphoma, and one participant had lymphoplasmacytoid lymphoma/Waldenström macroglobulinemia. Mean age of the 18 participants was 67 years. 56% of the sample was male. Most participants (67%) had a college or advanced degree. When asked to describe their iNHL symptoms, patients most often discussed swelling (n = 14), fatigue (n = 11), and pain (n = 8). The following symptoms were mentioned by three patients each: anxiety, appetite loss, rash, sleep disruption, trouble breathing, and malaise. Mapping of NFLymSI-18 content to these concerns showed the instrument includes all those most frequently mentioned symptoms. Conclusions This study supports the content validity of the NFLymSI-18, including its DRS-P Subscale, for patients with iNHL. The instrument shows strong validity for the most referenced symptoms of swelling, fatigue, and pain. The diversity of additional symptoms reported by patients is consistent with the heterogeneous symptomology of iNHL.

Until recently, the study of age-related decline in fertility has focused primarily on the ovary; depletion of the finite pool of oocytes and increases in meiotic errors leading to oocyte aneuploidy are well-established mechanisms by which fertility declines with advancing age. Comparatively little is known about the impact of age on endometrial function. The endometrium is a complex tissue comprised of many cell types, including epithelial, stromal, vascular, immune and stem cells. The capacity of this tissue for rapid, cyclic regeneration is unique to this tissue, undergoing repeated cycles of growth and shedding (in the absence of an embryo) in response to ovarian hormones. Furthermore, the endometrium has been shown to be capable of supporting pregnancies beyond the established boundaries of the reproductive lifespan. Despite its longevity, molecular studies have established age-related changes in individual cell populations within the endometrium. Human clinical studies have attempted to isolate the effect of aging on the endometrium by analyzing pregnancies conceived with euploid, high quality embryos. In this review, we explore the existing literature on endometrial aging and its impact on pregnancy outcomes. We begin with an overview of the principles of endometrial physiology and function. We then explore the mechanisms behind endometrial aging in its individual cellular compartments. Finally, we highlight lessons about endometrial aging gleaned from rodent and human clinical studies and propose opportunities for future study to better understand the contribution of the endometrium to age-related decline in fertility.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) affects 1–2% of children and is associated with functional impairment and diminished quality of life. Several treatments are efficacious: cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) with exposure and response prevention, serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SRI) monotherapy, and combined treatment (SRI ​+ ​CBT). Expert clinician-informed practice parameters suggest that youth with mild to moderate OCD should be treated initially with CBT yet SRIs are frequently employed as the first-line intervention or in combination with psychotherapy in applied practice. Empirical data to guide SRI discontinuation in pediatric OCD are very limited. This study, Promoting OCD Wellness and Resiliency (POWER), aims to address this gap through a two phase, double-blinded, placebo-controlled, randomized controlled non-inferiority trial with the purpose of evaluating whether youth with OCD on an SRI can discontinue their medication after successful CBT augmentation and maintain wellness for a period of 24 weeks during which they receive maintenance CBT that models standard-of-care. In this paper we describe the rationale and methodological design of the POWER study.

ABSTRACT: Gastrointestinal disease is the most common cause of mortality in dairy calves. Septicemia is an important sequela of diarrhea, and the possibility of bacteremia is the primary justification for empirical antimicrobial therapy. Prior reports estimate that approximately one-third of diarrheic calves are bacteremic; however, those estimates may not be representative of routine cases in heifer calves on commercial dairy operations early in the course of disease. We hypothesized that the prevalence of bacteremia in calves with diarrhea and systemic signs of illness is less than prior estimates (∼31%), and that clinical signs or hematological values would be associated with the presence or absence of bacteremia. Female calves less than 21 d of age with and without diarrhea were enrolled from 2 commercial dairy farms over a 10-wk period. Diarrheic calves were enrolled if they were newly diagnosed, had loose to watery stool, had either dehydration (assessed by skin tent and eye position) or depression (assessed by suckle reflex and standing ability), and had no prior antimicrobial treatments. Complete health assessments were conducted at 0, 7, and 14 d following enrollment. An aseptic jugular venous sample was collected and cultured using aerobic and anaerobic methods, and bacterial species were identified using mass spectrometry. Poisson regression models were used to identify associations with bacteremia and compute adjusted prevalence ratios. The prevalence of bacteremia in diarrheic and healthy calves was 9.26% (10/108, 95% confidence interval: 4.5–16%) and 14.8% (4/27, 95% confidence interval: 1.4–28.2%), respectively. Among calves with diarrhea, those with a fever (>39.7°C) or depression were 4.8 and 6.5 times more likely, respectively, to have bacteremia. Only 1 of 47 calves (2%) without signs of depression was bacteremic. The prevalence of bacteremia in diarrheic calves with signs of systemic illness (depression or dehydration) was significantly lower than previous estimates, and bacteremia was rare among calves without observed depression. Antimicrobial therapy targeting bacteremia is not currently justified in routine cases of diarrhea in preweaning calves without signs of depression. These results suggest a substantial opportunity for more targeted antimicrobial therapy to improve antimicrobial stewardship.

We report a case of metastatic pancreatic neuroendocrine carcinoma associated with paraneoplastic Cushing’s syndrome, successively treated with five lines of treatment (platin-etoposide, LV5FU2-dacarbazine, FOLFIRINOX, pembrolizumab, and paclitaxel) and anti-secretory treatment. Circulating-free DNA (cfDNA) was analysed at each morphological evaluation starting from the second-line treatment. cfDNA changes were well correlated with the disease course, and cfDNA may be used as a predictive marker and/or as an early marker of response. In addition, the absolute count of atypical cells was elevated upon disease progression.

Abstract Background The aim of the study is to estimate the prevalence of atelectasis assessed with computer tomography (CT) in SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia and the relationship between the amount of atelectasis with oxygenation impairment, Intensive Care Unit admission rate and the length of in-hospital stay. Patients and methods Two-hundred thirty-seven patients admitted to the hospital with SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia diagnosed by clinical, radiology and molecular tests in the nasopharyngeal swab who underwent a chest computed tomography because of a respiratory worsening from Apr 1 to Apr 30, 2020 were included in the study. Patients were divided into three groups depending on the presence and amount of atelectasis at the computed tomography: no atelectasis, small atelectasis ( 5% of the estimated lung volume). In all patients, clinical severity, oxygen-therapy need, Intensive Care Unit admission rate, the length of in-hospital stay and in-hospital mortality data were collected. Results Thirty patients (19%) showed small atelectasis while eight patients (5%) showed large atelectasis. One hundred and seventeen patients (76%) did not show atelectasis. Patients with large atelectasis compared to patients with small atelectasis had lower SatO2/FiO2 (182 vs 411 respectively, p = 0.01), needed more days of oxygen therapy (20 vs 5 days respectively, p = 0,02), more frequently Intensive Care Unit admission (75% vs 7% respectively, p

Introduction: In stable patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) is an effective, safe and cost-effective non-pharmacological treatment. However, the effects of PR on vascular function have been poorly explored. This study aimed to compare the amounts of circulating progenitor cells (PCs) and endothelial microvesicles (EMVs) in patients with PAH before and after 8 weeks of endurance exercise training as markers of vascular competence. Methods: A prospective study of 10 consecutive patients with PAH that successfully finished a PR program (8 weeks) was carried out before and after this intervention. Levels of circulating PCs defined as CD34+CD45low progenitor cells and levels of EMVs (CD31+ CD42b-) were measured by flow cytometry. The ratio of PCs to EMVs was taken as a measure of the balance between endothelial damage and repair capacity. Results: All patients showed training-induced increases in endurance time (mean change 287 s). After PR, the number of PCs (CD34+CD45low/total lymphocytes) was increased (p < 0.05). In contrast, after training, the level of EMVs (CD31+ CD42b-/total EMVs) was reduced. The ratio of PCs to EMVs was significantly higher after training (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Our study shows, for the first time, that endurance exercise training in patients with stable PAH has a positive effect, promoting potential mechanisms of damage/repair in favor of repair. This effect could contribute to a positive hemodynamic and clinical response.

Abstract Circulating cell-free DNA (cfDNA) has the potential to be a specific biomarker for the therapeutic management of lung cancer patients. Here, a new sequencing error-reduction method based on molecular amplification pools (MAPs) was utilized to analyze cfDNA in lung cancer patients. We determined the accuracy of MAPs plasma sequencing with respect to droplet digital polymerase chain reaction assays (ddPCR), and tested whether actionable mutation discovery is improved by next-generation sequencing (NGS) in a clinical setting. This study reports data from 356 lung cancer patients receiving plasma testing as part of routine clinical management. Sequencing of cfDNA via MAPs had a sensitivity of 98.5% and specificity 98.9%. The ddPCR assay was used as the reference, since it is an established, accurate assay that can be performed contemporaneously on the same plasma sample. MAPs sequencing detected somatic variants in 261 of 356 samples (73%). Non-actionable clonal hematopoiesis-associated variants were identified via sequencing in 21% of samples. The accuracy of this cfDNA sequencing approach was similar to that of ddPCR assays in a clinical setting, down to an allele frequency of 0.1%. Due to broader coverage and high sensitivity for insertions and deletions, sequencing via MAPs afforded important detection of additional actionable mutations.

Hydrological models are valuable tools for developing streamflow predictions in unmonitored catchments to increase our understanding of hydrological processes. A recent effort has been made in the development of hybrid (conceptual/machine learning) models that can preserve some of the hydrological processes represented by conceptual models and can improve streamflow predictions. However, these studies have not explored how the data-driven component of hybrid models resolved runoff routing. In this study, explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) techniques are used to turn a ‘black-box’ model into a ‘glass box’ model. The hybrid models reduced the root-mean-square error of the simulated streamflow values by approximately 27, 50, and 24% for stations 17120000, 27380000, and 33680000, respectively, relative to the traditional method. XAI techniques helped unveil the importance of accounting for soil moisture in hydrological models. Differing from purely data-driven hydrological models, the inclusion of the production storage in the proposed hybrid model, which is responsible for estimating the water balance, reduced the short- and long-term dependencies of input variables for streamflow prediction. In addition, soil moisture controlled water percolation, which was the main predictor of streamflow. This finding is because soil moisture controls the underlying mechanisms of groundwater flow into river streams. Abstract Background Von Willebrand Disease (VWD) is the most common inherited bleeding disorder, caused by quantitative and qualitative changes in von Willebrand factor (VWF). The biology of VWD, studied in canine, porcine, and murine models, differ in species‐specific biology of VWF and the amenability to experimental manipulations such as phlebotomy. The factor VIII (FVIII) levels in these models are higher than in humans with type 3 VWD, suggesting functional differences between FVIII and VWF. Objectives To develop a VWF knock out (VWF–/–) rat by excision of all 52 exons of the VWF locus. Methods The entire VWF gene was eliminated in Sprague‐Dawley (Crl:SD) rats via CRISPR/Cas9‐mediated gene editing. VWF antigen (VWF:Ag), VWF propeptide, and VWF collagen IV binding (VWF:CB4) levels were determined by ELISA assays and FVIII chromogenic activity (FVIII:C) levels by chromogenic FVIII assays. Lateral tail veins were transected to measure bleeding time. VWF–/– rats were infused with FVIII–/– rat platelet poor plasma (PPP) to determine response of plasma FVIII. Results Breeding of VWF ± rats yielded VWF–/– offspring at normal Mendelian ratios. VWF:Ag, VWF propeptide, VWF:CB4, and FVIII:C plasma levels were undetectable in VWF–/– rats. VWF–/– rats bled longer and more than VWF+/– and VWF+/+ rats when challenged. Transfusion of FVIII‐deficient platelet‐poor plasma induced a rapid rise in endogenous FVIII:C in VWF–/– rats. Conclusion This rat model of severe VWD due to elimination of the entire VWF gene recapitulates the severe secondary deficiency of FVIII seen in human type 3 VWD and facilitates the study of VWF and FVIII and their interactions.

Recent acoustic telemetry positioning systems are able to reconstruct the positions and trajectories of organisms at a scale of a few centimeters to a few meters. However, they present several logistical constraints including receiver maintenance, calibration procedures and limited access to real-time data. We present here a novel, easy-to-deploy, energy self-sufficient underwater positioning system based on the time difference of arrival (TDOA) algorithm and the Global System for Mobile (GSM) communication technology, capable of locating tagged marine organisms in real time. We provide an illustration of the application of this system with empirical examples using continuous and coded tags in fish and benthic invertebrates. In situ experimental tests of the operational system demonstrated similar performances to currently available acoustic positioning systems, with a global positioning error of 7.13 ± 5.80 m (mean ± SD) and one-third of the pings can be localized within 278 m of the farthest buoy. Despite some required improvements, this prototype is designed to be autonomous and can be deployed from the surface in various environments (rivers, lakes, and oceans). It was proven to be useful to monitor a wide variety of species (benthic and pelagic) in real time. Its real-time property can be used to rapidly detect system failure, optimize deployment design, or for ecological or conservation applications.

Essential Biodiversity Variables (EBV) related to benthic habitats and high trophic levels such as fish communities must be measured at fine scale but monitored and assessed at spatial scales that are relevant for policy and management actions. Local scales are important for assessing anthropogenic impacts, and conservation-related and fisheries management actions, while reporting on the conservation status of biodiversity to formulate national and international policies requires much broader scales. Measurements must account for the fact that coastal habitats and fish communities are heterogeneously distributed locally and at larger scales. Assessments based on in situ monitoring generally suffer from poor spatial replication and limited geographical coverage, which is challenging for area-wide assessments. Requirements for appropriate monitoring comprise cost-efficient and standardized observation protocols and data formats, spatially scalable and versatile data workflows, data that comply with the FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) principles, while minimizing the environmental impact of measurements. This paper describes a standardized workflow based on remote underwater video that aims to assess fishes (at species and community levels) and habitat-related EBVs in coastal areas. This panoramic unbaited video technique was developed in 2007 to survey both fishes and benthic habitats in a cost-efficient manner, and with minimal effect on biodiversity. It can be deployed in areas where low underwater visibility is not a permanent or major limitation. The technique was consolidated and standardized and has been successfully used in varied settings over the last 12 years. We operationalized the EBV workflow by documenting the field protocol, survey design, image post-processing, EBV production and data curation. Applications of the workflow are illustrated here based on some 4,500 observations (fishes and benthic habitats) in the Pacific, Indian and Atlantic Oceans, and Mediterranean Sea. The STAVIRO’s proven track-record of utility and cost-effectiveness indicates that it should be considered by other researchers for future applications.

Abstract Cell‐free plasma DNA (cfDNA) and mimicking circulating tumor cells (mCTCs) have demonstrated tremendous potential for molecular diagnosis of cancer and have been rapidly implemented in specific settings. However, widespread clinical adoption still faces some obstacles. The purpose was to compare the performance of a BEAMing (beads, emulsion, amplification, and magnetics) assay (OncoBEAM™‐epidermal growth factor receptor [EGFR] [Sysmex Inostics]) and a next‐generation sequencing assay (NGS; 56G Oncology panel kit, Swift Bioscience) to detect the p.T790M EGFR mutation in cfDNA of non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. CfDNA samples (n = 183) were collected within our hospital from patients having a known EGFR sensitizing mutation, and presenting disease progression while under first‐line therapy. EGFR mutations were detected using NGS in 42.1% of samples during progression in cfDNA. Testing using the OncoBEAM™‐EGFR assay enabled detection of the p.T790M EGFR mutation in 40/183 NSCLC patients (21.8%) versus 20/183 (10.9%), using the NGS assay. Samples that were only positive with the OncoBEAM™‐EGFR assay had lower mutant allelic fractions (Mean = 0.1304%; SD ± 0.1463%). In addition, we investigated the detection of p.T790M in mCTCs using H1975 cells. These cells spiked into whole blood were enriched using the ClearCellFX1 microfluidic device. Using the OncoBEAM™‐EGFR assay, p.T790M was detected in as few as 1.33 tumoral cells/mL. Overall, these findings highlight the value of using the OncoBEAM™‐EGFR to optimize detection of the p.T790M mutation, as well as the complementary clinical value that each of the mutation detection assay offers: NGS enabled the detection of mutations in other oncogenes that may be relevant to secondary resistance mechanisms, whereas the OncoBEAM™‐EGFR assay achieved higher sensitivity for detection of clinically actionable mutations.

Magnetophoresis-based microfluidic devices offer simple and reliable manipulation of micro-scale objects and provide a large panel of applications, from selective trapping to high-throughput sorting. However, the fabrication and integration of micro-scale magnets in microsystems involve complex and expensive processes. Here we report on an inexpensive and easy-to-handle fabrication process of micrometer-scale permanent magnets, based on the self-organization of NdFeB particles in a polymer matrix (polydimethylsiloxane, PDMS). A study of the inner structure by X-ray tomography revealed a chain-like organization of the particles leading to an array of hard magnetic microstructures with a mean diameter of 4 µm. The magnetic performance of the self-assembled micro-magnets was first estimated by COMSOL simulations. The micro-magnets were then integrated into a microfluidic device where they act as micro-traps. The magnetic forces exerted by the micro-magnets on superparamagnetic beads were measured by colloidal probe atomic force microscopy (AFM) and in operando in the microfluidic system. Forces as high as several nanonewtons were reached. Adding an external millimeter-sized magnet allowed target magnetization and the interaction range to be increased. Then, the integrated micro-magnets were used to study the magnetophoretic trapping efficiency of magnetic beads, providing efficiencies of 100% at 0.5 mL/h and 75% at 1 mL/h. Finally, the micro-magnets were implemented for cell sorting by performing white blood cell depletion.

Stabilization of DNA quadruplex structures (G4) is lethal for cells with a compromised DNA repair pathway. Here, the authors show that CX-5461, a small molecule in clinical trials as RNA polymerase inhibitor, has G4-stablization properties and can be repurposed to target DNA repair-defective cancers cells.

Introduction. Labeling a patient as “frail” may be useful in assessing the prognosis and therapeutic approach. Objective. The aim of the study is to define a pattern of frailty among our dialysis population, to analyse the incidence and clinical evolution of these patients. Materials and Methods. We analysed a total of 320 patients with stage V chronic kidney disease (CKD) who were on hemodialysis between September 2014 and September 2015. To define a patient as frail we used the Fried phenotype model, and we added a new criteria-dialysis session length longer than 12 hours/week. Results. 5.6% of the 320 patients were frail. To date, studies have shown mixed results regarding the relationship between health literacy and diabetic control. This study examined diabetes control in a clinic run by an advanced practice pharmacist with prescriptive authority who was aware of patients’ health literacy level. The primary objective of this study was to determine if patients with diabetes who have adequate health literacy achieve better A1C control than patients with inadequate health literacy when managed by a pharmacist clinician (PhC) aware of patients’ health literacy status. Of the ninety-six patients included in the study, sixty-three percent had inadequate health literacy. White patients had numerically greater percentage of adequate health literacy than other ethnicities (p = 0.082). The change in A1C was similar between groups [median −0.5% for inadequate health literacy; −1% for adequate health literacy (p = 0.273)]. The no-show rate was also similar between the two groups (p = 0.919). In the multiple linear regression, no factors significantly impacted baseline or follow-up A1C. Patients receiving diabetes care from a PhC aware of the patients’ health literacy status did not achieve different A1C outcomes based on level of health literacy.

Fish populations are linked to each other via dispersal of individuals as eggs, larvae, juveniles or adults. The understanding of this process, known as connectivity, has a pivotal role for the management of overexploited fish stocks and the development of accurate conservation strategies. Knowledge on connectivity and fish movements is considered fundamental toward the correct design of marine protected area (MPA) networks for the achievement of the benefits of protection. Connectivity patterns are still largely unknown worldwide. A general lack of knowledge is particularly evident for the Mediterranean Sea where few studies dealing with this topic have been carried out and some methods, currently available for assessing connectivity, have not been used yet. In this review we present the methods used for studying connectivity patterns and fish movements at different life history stages and the main results achieved until now in the Mediterranean Sea. We encompass the pros and cons of each method, and conclude with future perspectives on the use of these methodologies in the Mediterranean context.

O uso repetido de herbicidas inibidores da enzima ALS favoreceram a seleção de biótipos resistentes, tornando necessário o uso de herbicidas alternativos. O objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar o controle de nabo e seletividade ao trigo sob diferentes doses de saflufenacil e bentazona, e outros herbicidas de uso comum nesta cultura. O estudo foi realizado em casa de vegetação em delineamento inteiramente casualizado com quatro repetições. Os tratamentos de saflufenacil (0; 8,5; 17; 35 e 70 g ha-1), bentazona (0; 180; 360; 720 e 1440 g ha-1), metsulfurom metílico (3,6 g ha-1) e 2,4-D (670 g e.a. ha-1), além da testemunha capinada. As variáveis analisadas foram controle de nabo e fitotoxicidade ao trigo aos 8 e 14 DAA. Os resultados evidenciaram que o controle de nabo foi superior a 90% aos 14 DAA para doses superiores a 17 e 360 g ha-1 de saflufenacil e bentazona, respectivamente. Ao comparar com os tratamentos adicionais, observou-se que ambos os herbicidas podem substituir o metsulfurom-metilico e o 2,4-D para controle de nabo.

The prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) is on the rise and constitutes a major health burden across the world. Clinical presentations in early CKD are usually subtle. Awareness of the risk factors for CKD is important for early diagnosis and treatment to slow the progression of disease. We present a case report of a 17-year-old African American male who presented in a life threatening hypertensive emergency with renal failure and the highest reported serum creatinine in a pediatric patient. A brief discussion on CKD criteria, complications, and potential red flags for screening strategies is provided.

RESUMOEste trabalho avaliou tecnologias de ambientes protegidos e substratos para a produção de mudas de Dipteryx alataVog. Foram utilizados dois ambientes protegidos: telado agrícola, fechamento em 90° graus, com tela preta nas laterais e aluminizada na cobertura, ambas de 50% de sombreamento; telado agrícola, fechamento em 45° graus, com tela preta nas laterais e cobertura, de 50% de sombreamento. Em cada ambiente foram testados substratos de mistura de esterco bovino (E) e vermiculita (V): 100% E + 0% V; 90% E + 10% V; 80% E + 20% V; 70% E + 30% V; 60% E + 40% V; 50% E + 50% V; 40% E + 60% V; 30% E + 70% V; 20% E + 80% V; 10% E + 90% V. O telado preto propiciou mudas de melhor qualidade e os substratos com baixas porcentagens de esterco (10, 20 e 30%) são os mais propícios para a formação de mudas de Dipteryx alataVog.

Abstract Simple physico-chemical techniques can be used to evaluate the composition, structure, and characteristics of plant seeds to determine their viability, quality, and possible uses in agriculture. Advanced analytical techniques, including thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA), electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), and high-pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC), provide completely new insights and more precise information. They can be integrated to build up seed quality profiles, with great advantage to assess water content, organic compounds, and inorganic metals without the need to carry out many extraction procedures, as requested by more conventional methods. In this study, seed lots from three different plant species such as Triticum turgidum L. subsp. durum (wheat), Trigonella foenum graecum L. (trigonella or fenugreek), and Atriplex halimus L. (saltbush or sea orach) have been used to test the potential of TGA, EPR, and HPLC to discriminate between seed-specific features. A key finding of this study is that HPLC is essential in Principal Component Analysis (PCA) because various seeds (from the same species or other species) may contain compounds with varying polarity groups. The reported data confirm the efficacy of this approach. These data, fully available for other users, are coherently constructed and provide a proof of concept for future seed quality control studies.
