Tidal disruption events (TDEs) offer a unique way to study dormant black holes. While the number of observed TDEs has grown thanks to the emergence of wide-field surveys in the past few decades, questions regarding the nature of the observed optical, UV, and X-ray emission remain. We present a uniformly selected sample of 30 spectroscopically classified TDEs from the Zwicky Transient Facility Phase I survey operations with follow-up \textit{Swift} UV and X-ray observations. Through our investigation into correlations between light curve properties, we recover a shallow positive correlation between the peak bolometric luminosity and decay timescales. We introduce a new spectroscopic class of TDE, TDE-featureless, which are characterized by featureless optical spectra. The new TDE-featureless class shows larger peak bolometric luminosities, peak blackbody temperatures, and peak blackbody radii. We examine the differences between the X-ray bright and X-ray faint populations of TDEs in this sample, finding that X-ray bright TDEs show higher peak blackbody luminosities than the X-ray faint sub-sample. This sample of optically selected TDEs is the largest sample of TDEs from a single survey yet, and the systematic discovery, classification, and follow-up of this sample allows for robust characterization of TDE properties, an important stepping stone looking forward toward the Rubin era., Comment: 44 pages, 22 figures, 9 tables, accepted to ApJ

We present detailed multiwavelength follow up of a nuclear radio flare, VT J154843.06+220812.6, hereafter VT J1548. VT J1548 was selected as a ${\sim}1$ mJy radio flare in 3 GHz observations from the VLA Sky Survey (VLASS). It is located in the nucleus of a low mass ($\log M_{\rm BH}/M_\odot \sim6$) host galaxy with weak or no past AGN activity. VT J1548 is associated with a slow rising (multiple year), bright mid IR flare in the WISE survey, peaking at ${\sim}10\%L_{\rm edd.}$. No associated optical transient is detected, although we cannot rule out a short, early optical flare given the limited data available. Constant late time (${\sim}3$ years post-flare) X-ray emission is detected at ${\sim}10^{42}$ erg s$^{-1}$. The radio SED is consistent with synchrotron emission from an outflow incident on an asymmetric medium. A follow-up, optical spectrum shows transient, bright, high-ionization coronal line emission ($[{\rm Fe\,X}]\,\lambda 6375,[{\rm Fe\,XI}]\,\lambda 7894,[{\rm S\,XII}]\,\lambda 7612$). Transient broad H$\alpha$ is also detected but without corresponding broad H$\beta$ emission, suggesting high nuclear extinction. We interpret this event as either a tidal disruption event or an extreme flare of an active galactic nucleus, in both cases obscured by a dusty torus. Although these individual properties have been observed in previous transients, the combination is unprecedented. The Milky Way's dark matter halo is expected to host numerous low-mass subhalos with no detectable associated stellar component. Such subhalos are invisible unless their dark matter annihilates to visible states such as photons. One of the established methods for identifying candidate subhalos is to search for individual unassociated gamma-ray sources with properties consistent with the dark matter expectation. However, robustly ruling out an astrophysical origin for any such candidate is challenging. In this work, we present a complementary approach that harnesses information about the entire population of subhalos---such as their spatial and mass distribution in the Galaxy---to search for a signal of annihilating dark matter. Using simulated data, we show that the collective emission from subhalos can imprint itself in a unique way on the statistics of observed photons, even when individual subhalos may be too dim to be resolved on their own. Additionally, we demonstrate that, for the models we consider, the signal can be identified even in the face of unresolved astrophysical point-source emission of extragalactic and Galactic origin. This establishes a new search technique for subhalos that is complementary to established methods, and that could have important ramifications for gamma-ray dark matter searches using observatories such as the Fermi Large Area Telescope and the Cherenkov Telescope Array., 17+1 pages, 6+1 figures

Galactic-scale winds driven by active galactic nuclei (AGN) are often invoked to suppress star formation in galaxy evolution models, but the mechanisms driving these outflows are hotly debated. Two key AGN feedback models are (1) radiation pressure accelerating cool gas and (2) a hot outflowing wind entraining the ISM. Highly ionized emission-line diagnostics represent a powerful means of differentiating these scenarios because of their sensitivity to the expected compression of the ISM clouds by the hot wind. Here, we report the first spatially resolved UV emission spectroscopy of a prototypical (radio-quiet) quasar-driven superwind around the obscured quasar SDSSJ1356+1026 at z=0.123. We increase the sample of ultra diffuse galaxies (UDGs) in lower density environments with characterized globular cluster (GC) populations using new Hubble Space Telescope observations of nine UDGs in group environments. While the bulk of our UDGs have GC abundances consistent with normal dwarf galaxies, two of these UDGs have excess GC populations. These two UDGs both have GC luminosity functions consistent with higher surface brightness galaxies and cluster UDGs. We then combine our nine objects with previous studies to create a catalog of UDGs with analyzed GC populations that spans a uniquely diverse range of environments. We use this catalog to examine broader trends in the GC populations of low stellar mass galaxies. The highest GC abundances are found in cluster UDGs, but whether cluster UDGs are actually more extreme requires study of many more UDGs in groups. We find a possible positive correlation between GC abundance and stellar mass, and between GC abundance and galaxy size at fixed stellar mass. However, we see no significant stellar-mass galaxy-size relation, over our limited stellar mass range.
