The paper discusses approaches, outcomes and experiences of an ongoing project of collaborative Croatian terminology contribution to the Art and Architecture Thesaurus (AAT) through the cooperation of university teachers, master level students and museum professionals. The project is conducted on the University of Zagreb Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHSS).A model proposed in the project can acceleratethe otherwise time-consuming process of developing multilingual thesauri through greater student engagement while achieving multiple educational goals on real-world tasks. The methods of quality control and student engagement from crowdsourcing projects methodologies are applied, but they were revised and improved with respect to the specific needs and requirements of the educational context. The process is segmented into the following stages: 1. Generating a corpus of the relevant terms. Two thousand most frequent terms from four top facest (materials, techniques, objects and periods) were selected from the databases of partner heritage institutions. 2. Translation and linking. Translation of terms into English and linking them to relevant AAT concepts (accompanied with references to relevant reference literature and lexicographical sources) is performed by students. Mapping of Croatian and English terms for specific concepts is further implemented through semantic technologies. 3. Quality control. Methods include peer-checking among students and teacher supervision. Concepts that are particularly demanding (e.g. complex art techniques) are examined by a separate group of students, where examination also includes detailed literature research and comparison. The final stage of quality control is provided by scholars and museum professionals from the corresponding field. 4. Including the terms into AAT. After the quality check, the terms would be included in the AAT and made openly available as Linked Open Data (LOD), provided by the Getty Research Institute. Further open formats for thesauri exchange (Zthes, RDF, JSON) would be provided. This will allow the reuse of project results by other national and international vocabulary projects and create a basis for enriching metadata and enabling multilingualism. That would increase the visibility, accessibility and interoperability of diverse national heritage in an international context, thereby supporting multicultural communication at human and machine level. During the mapping and validation of different concepts from monolingual and multilingual thesauri, via different methods and tools (SPARQL queries, LOD matching, using APIs), participants are becoming aware of linguistic and cultural differences in meaning and vocabulary construction (classifications, selection of preferred terms, fluid spatio-temporal boundaries etc.). In this paper, we would like to discuss how participants (students, heritage professionals, scholars) perceive different aspects of vocabulary development and control and how they practice scholarly primitives (especially annotating, comparing, referring and representing) in the context of the ongoing developments in the methods and technologies related to controlled vocabularies and ontologies in the field of Digital Humanities.

The paper discusses approaches, outcomes and experiences from an ongoing project of digitization, cataloguing and communication of the Ivo Maroević Slide Collection through the cooperation of university teachers and master level students at several courses at the University of Zagreb Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHSS). Professor Ivo Maroević, PhD (1937 – 2007) was the founder of the Museology Section within the Department of Information and Communication Sciences at FFHS, University of Zagreb. Since the beginning of his teaching career, since 1983, he has created a rich collection of more than 9000 slides. Following the professor's teaching courses, the collection is divided into three sub-collections – Museology, Protection of Monuments and Urbanistic Topics. Ivo Maroević left extensive and structured documentation along with the slides (the slides are equipped with keywords, and the ad hoc classification is developed) that has helped to recognize the significance of the collection and to facilitate its cataloguing and further use. From the very beginning of the project, students have been involved in the digitization and cataloguing of the collection. Students also participate in the structuring of a controlled vocabulary via a multilingual thesaurus. The methods of student engagement and quality control are applied from crowdsourcing projects methodologies, but they were revised and improved concerning the specific needs and requirements of the educational context. Students are currently preparing the collection for its publication through an online multilingual catalogue, to make the collection accessible and visible in international contexts.

Digitisation of archival materials is a lengthy process in which the act of digitisation is usually the shortest and the most straightforward one. It is the processing of the digitised materials that take a lot of time and effort. It is valuable to have digitised materials available online, even for the reason of not having to travel to the physical location of the originals, but the tendency of extracting additional value from the materials increases. To that end, the archival materials can be processed by new techniques such as artificial intelligence (AI) and crowdsourcing. The authors use the example of digitisation of the minutes from the Faculty (of Humanities and Social Sciences) Council meetings dating from 1913 to 1996 and the application of AI to improve the OCR results and NER for semantic enrichment as well the example of digitisation of the food rationing cards, used between 1941 and 1945 in Zagreb, Croatia and the application of AI and crowdsourcing to data extraction, analysis and visualisation.

The traditional approach to achieve high metadata quality in image description is to use subject experts. However, cultural heritage institutions often lack the human resources to handle the amount of material that is in need of description. One of the possible solutions to this problem is applying the gamification approach in the process of description. Many studies have shown that applying game design features outside traditional game environments can increase the motivation and productivity, and that those games can be particularly effective in invoking intrinsic motivations and overall enjoyment. However, there is a need to explore the quality of such game- generated tags in comparison with using controlled vocabularies and traditional approaches. In this paper, we compare game-generated image labels and professional descriptors. First, a subject expert using controlled vocabulary added descriptors for each image. Then, by using a gamified platform for collecting semantic annotations of digitized images, game- generated tags were collected. In the final stage, game-generated labels were evaluated by the subject expert in the context of appropriateness of using them as descriptors within a standardized system. Results have shown that game-generated labels can serve as a basis for high quality labels suitable for including a standardized description in order to enhance description and retrieval

Prof. Ivo Maroević, PhD (1937 – 2007) was the founder of the Museology Section within the Department of Information and Communication Sciences, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb. Since the beginning of his teaching career, in 1983, until 2007, he created a rich collection of more than 9000 slides. Following the professor's teaching courses, the collection is divided into three sub- collections – Museology, Protection of Monuments and Urban Topics. The attachment brings descriptions of the collections as well as the results of research into the collection of older teaching slides found in the Maroević collection, the oldest of which could belong to the period of the first professor of Art History and Archaeology at the University of Zagreb – Izidor Kršnjavi. Ivo Maroević's slides are accompanied by his comprehensive and structured documentation that has helped to recognise the heritage significance of the Collection and to facilitate its processing and use. The intense involvement of students from the very beginning of the digitisation of the Collection also required the development of different approaches to participation and collaboration, including a new approach to the application of crowdsourcing in the field of education. With the public announcement and the gradual introduction of multilingualism, the Collection will become accessible and visible in international contexts, just as Ivo Maroević was for years.

Kako postoje mnoge definicije, danas se rad mnoštva obično pojednostavnjeno smatra činom korištenja skupinom ljudi u donošenju odluka, inoviranju i rješavanju problema.

Troškovi prijevoda nisu zanemarivi, no inovativnim i sustavnim pristupom implementacijama višejezičnosti mogu se u značajnoj mjeri smanjiti.

A growing number of institutions in the heritage sector started to investigate the possibilities of communicating their digitised collections with the public and seizing the opportunities by applying different crowdsourcing approaches. The efforts are often gathered under the notion of citizen science, where projects enlist the help of volunteers to solve challenging scientific research problems. One of the ways to provide users with an opportunity to deeply explore, connect with and contribute to public memory is to employ the principles of gamification, in the process of connecting digitized materials with the users. This paper explores the idea of applying gameful design in the process of communicating digitized online collections within the wider field of crowdsourcing and citizen science. The first part provides a theoretical background on the notion of gamification, setting the framework for applying gamification in the heritage domain. The second part focuses on the applications of gamification within the heritage domain and based on the projects examined. The final part gives recommendations on how citizen science and gameful design can be successfully implemented.

U prvom dijelu rada donose se relevantne teorijske postavke područja korisničkog označivanja: definicija i struktura folksonomije, formalni modeli i proces korisničkog označivanja, kategorije i modeli distribucije korisničkih oznaka. With the rise of social software and the development of various connected user services, a new wave of user participation in using, creating and organizing online sources based on the idea of collaborative user tagging emerged, namely folksonomies. The first part of this paper analyzes the underlying theoretical aspects of folksonomies: structure and definition, formal models and the pro cess of tagging and the categories and distribution models. The second part of the paper analyzes the advantages and shortcomings of the approach and sets the framework for applying folksonomies as a method of subject ac- cess and indexing for organizing, using and sharing online sources.

OPEN source intelligence ,DECISION making ,COMMUNICATION ,INFORMATION technology ,PUBLIC domain - Abstract
Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) is an intelligence product which has been processed, analysed and obtained from the publicly available information. It should be actionable and disseminated in a timely manner to the appropriate audience. Open source intelligence transfers specific knowledge to beneficiaries for them to use it in their actions and the decision-making process. Even though intelligence has for years been considered a state activity, a new postmodern intelligence paradigm (resulting from the post-Cold War period), along with the new security threats and technological improvement within the information and communication technology changed the understanding of intelligence and open source intelligence. It is believed that the bulk of intelligence, according to some estimates as much as 80 percent, comes from publicly available sources, which unquestionably indicates that this specific intelligence knowledge can be created outside of the traditional intelligence environment. The positive characteristics of publicly available information is easy availability and velocity, variety of topics, the ethical component and the low cost of its collecting; while on the other hand, in the negative context, it is characterized by manipulative character, disinformation potential, fragmented truth, contradiction and mistrust. Since public domain is a suitable platform for spreading influence, various actors in this domain are trying to have an impact on the information, making it difficult to evaluate, compare and analyse. This paper tries to explore the key advantages and disadvantages of open source intelligence in the context of intelligence activities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The area of researching folksonomies is still in development, so theoretical perspective and research methods are still being defined. This study conducts a webometric and bibliometric analysis of the folksonomy research in the Library and Information science (LIS) field by collecting data from Web of Science (WOS), SCOPUS and Google Scholar in July 2014. It utilizes a total of 346 papers with 2660 citations from WOS and 1581 papers with 8848 citations from SCOPUS. In addition, Google Scholar database search was also included for providing a wider coverage of works published in conference proceedings, books and to include a wider journal base. Based on these results, research identifies most influential papers and authors across all three databases.

This thesis explores possible approaches in analysis and implementation of folksonomies in subject indexing of heritage materials, in order to examine user tags as a method complementing traditional subject access in the online environment. An in-depth analysis of the research field, identifying key authors, papers and concepts was undertaken along with the presentation of main models and structure of folksonomies. The context and particularities of implementing social tagging in the description of heritage materials as well as of crowdsourcing and games with a purpose were explored, covering selected heritage projects that succeeded in successful implementation of this notions. Research was undertaken using crowdsourcing methods, namely Game With a Purpose, a corpora of 14402 user tags on selected 80 heritage objects divided into 4 categories (library, archive, museum and photographs) was gathered for analysis. Statistical analysis of gathered corpora has shown that after a certain threshold is achieved, vocabulary base remains steady with only frequencies increasing. Linguistic analysis showed that a typical user tag consists of one word or phrase in singular, while content analysis identified most user tags as generic descriptors without added specific knowledge. User tags were compared to index terms from subject experts using the exact matching methods. A model of determining relevant user tags for a particular heritage object was defined and user tags obtained as a result were given back to the subject expert to evaluate their usefulness. Finally, a model of analysis and implementation of folksonomies in subject indexing of heritage materials was presented.

In order to improve the quality of their study programs, universities/faculties today are facing increasing demands to include employment skills into their curricula in order to maximize the potential of their students for a successful career. One of the key aspects in developing such skills is increasing students’ employability - a set of skills, understandings and personal attributes that make graduates more likely to gain employment and be successful in their chosen occupations, which benefits themselves, the workforce, the community and the economy. While there is a broad consensus amongst key stakeholders in the process (HEI, employers, students) on the importance of addressing employment skills within higher education, there are still open questions on how this can be achieved. While universities/faculties tend to put more emphasis on developing specific knowledge and skills within their field of education, a number of reports issued by employers urged them to make more explicit efforts to develop the “transferable” or “generic” skills needed in many types of high-level employment. In an ever increasing world of information, as one of the core components of these generic skills is developing information competencies – skill set needed for effective gathering, evaluating and communicating information in all its forms and contexts. This paper aims to explore how these information competencies are implemented at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb by conducting research across its study programs on the masters’ level. Following that approach, this research will provide a snapshot of current situation and give recommendations on possible optimizations in including information competences into the curricula at the faculty level.

This study explores tagging approaches when different types of information sources are being tagged (textual resource vs. image). The research included a total of 80 students assigning tags on two sample resources - a scientific paper and a sample photograph. Differences between the two resources in tag assignment were analyzed with regard to tag number and distribution, both by using descriptive statistic and by introducing the Jaccard similarity coefficient – a metrics for comparing the tag sets created by each participant with the original keywords assigned by the author itself (scientific paper) or an expert indexer (image). The results showed differences that can be very important in designing tools for accessing and describing different information objects for various heritage institutions, such as museums with primarily visual objects, or libraries, housing primarily textual collections.

Autori će pokušati utvrdit sličnosti i razlike u korisničkom označivanju vizualnih (slike) i tekstualnih informacijskih izvora. In the last decade, social/collaborative tagging has caught the attention of information professionals and gave impulse to a wide range of different studies concentrating on different aspects of this new user-generated metadata, such as advantages and disadvantages of folksonomies, the structure and type of tags or tagging behavior of users. Although such research is valuable and relevant, the ALM community should focus on more specific issues regarding tagging sources in the ALM environment. This paper will address the issue of user tagging in the ALM community. The authors will try to determine differencies and similarities in tagging visual (images) and textual information sources. The study consists of a quantitative, linguistic and semantic analysis of tags added to visual (image) and textual sources (scholarly paper) by both novices and advanced users of social tagging systems. Based on similarities and differences in the results the authors will try to identify potential differences in approaches to user tagging between different ALM institutions, like libraries where tagging activities will predominantely refer to textual resources, or museums where the majority of users will tag visual resources.

With the turn towards the digital age, a growing number of institutions in the GLAM (Galleries, Archives, Museums and Libraries) sector started to identify a need for digitising their different collections placing them online with goals to preserve and exhibit them in the digital environment. After the initial efforts to develop policies, methodologies and best practices in transferring the collections into the online environment, researchers and practitioners have started to investigate possibilities of communicating those digitised collections with the public and seizing the opportunities that arise from digitisation. One of the approaches that cultural heritage institutions started to explore in order to involve the general public in their activities on the Web is crowdsourcing - taking a job traditionally performed by a designated agent (usually an employee) and outsourcing it to an undefined community in the form of an open call. In the heritage sector this means inviting members of the public, (“the crowd”), to tag and classify, transcribe, organize, and otherwise add value to digital cultural heritage collection content. In this paper we provide an overview of approaches in using the collective intelligence in the cultural heritage domain. Key terms, concepts and corresponding case studies are discussed, providing the framework for crowdsourcing projects within the heritage sector.

Teaching controlled vocabularies and classifications at an introductory level can be challenging in terms of clarifying theoretical notions and motivating the students. In this light, approaches where students are presented with real life data that illustrates key concepts can be very useful. This case study investigated the difference between subject description of a journal article when using uncontrolled vocabulary (free keywords) and controlled vocabulary (UDC notions) as compared to author keywords, title keywords and UDC notions added by the subject specialist. The study was carried out before and after students attended an undergraduate introductory course to the field of controlled vocabularies and classification systems with a special accent on using the Universal Decimal Classification (UDC). The results confirmed two original hypotheses that UDC driven (post-course) tags will show a greater consistency and have higher agreement with the terms added by the subject specialist than free keyword (pre-course) tags. Since the study was carried out in an educational setting one of the goals of the study was to investigate the possible use of the study to illustrate the basic concept differences between uncontrolled and controlled vocabulary in the light of folksonomies and the use of UDC as a pre-coordinated term list.

During history the ALM community has systematically applied different solutions and models in providing access to collections and information resources for all users. The function of providing subject access to information is fulfilled by subject languages and vocabularies. Those are used primarily to assist in the process of retrieval and indexing. The admission of terms into a subject vocabulary is provided by warrants or justifications, one of which is the warrant of use. However, it has always been difficulty to ascertain common usage has always in a systematically manner. New possibilities in deriving user warrant are offered by folksonomies which are generated from tags assigned to information resources by users. As such, folksonomies have the potential to provide term material for building subject languages from the user perspective. Such possibilities attract interest in the information communities and motivated a range of qualitative and quantitative studies on folksonomies and features of tags.

Observing the changes in the information landscape and new emerging online services, one type of service has really taken the online users by storm – social networking. Adopting the simple Web 2.0 principles such as harnessing the powers of the users and free signup, social networks have built a very large user base and became very interesting to different companies as a marketing tool. Today, the most popular social network globally is Facebook. With more than 500 million users worldwide, and more than half of them using Facebook on a daily basis, the marketing potential of the Facebook platform becomes obvious. As Facebook became more and more popular, different non-profit information institutions, such as libraries, began exploring ways in which they can reach potential users. The authors present the results of the research on Croatian libraries presence on Facebook, the most popular social network worldwide and in Croatia. The research was based on the analysis of the number and type of Croatian libraries present on Facebook, types of their representation (group/profile/page), number of subscribers and maintenance frequency

Online advertising developed in 1994 as a means of financing website content production, but a constantly decreasing number of ad impressions and a significant rise in ad blocker users have incurred the loss of 30% of total industry revenue in 2015. However, studies reveal that two-thirds of current ad blocker users would to be willing to turn their blockers off should overall user experience be improved. As marketers continue debating whether the ad block revolution will finish online advertising, this paper presents an alternate viewpoint. It suggests that the rise of the ad block has been beneficial to the industry, because exposing the weaknesses of the current advertising model and the reasons for blocker popularization prompts the damaged model to change. It gathers best practices in advertising and recommendations for creating ads which do not need to be blocked. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
