Introduction: Non-motor symptoms (NMS) in Parkinson’s disease (PD) can fluctuate daily, impacting patient quality of life. The Non-Motor Fluctuation Assessment (NoMoFA) Questionnaire, a recently validated tool, quantifies NMS fluctuations during ON- and OFF-medication states. Our study aimed to validate the Italian version of NoMoFA, comparing its results to the original validation and further exploring its clinimetric properties. Methods: The scale underwent translation, back-translation, and cognitive pretesting before being administered to a calculated sample of > 200 PD patients. Each patient was assessed using a set of validated measures for assessing PD and cognitive state. We explored NoMoFA’s feasibility, acceptability, factorial structure, internal consistency, convergent validity, test–retest reliability (the latter performed on 50 patients after 14 days), and the precision of the scale. Results: 227 PD patients (mean age 65.34, disease duration 9.31 years) were included, with 100% data computability. The scale was free from floor and ceiling effects, and included 7 factors (59.2% of the variance). Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was 0.89, indicating strong internal consistency. The intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) of 0.90 demonstrated satisfactory reproducibility. The NoMoFA Total score showed the strongest correlations with MDS-UPDRS Parts I (rS = 0.71) and II (rS = 0.60). Significant differences in NoMoFA scores were observed based on disease duration, H&Y score, and LEDD (p < 0.0001), but not age or sex. The Standard error of measurement (SEM) was 3.40 (for ½ SDpooled = 5.48). Conclusion: The Italian version of the NoMoFA scale demonstrated strong reliability, validity and precision, making it a robust tool for assessing non-motor fluctuations in PD. Introduction: The image of a nurse is a source of concern due to its impact on recruitment into the profession, political decisions about the profession, and how the image affects nursing practice. For these reasons, one of the long-term challenges is to assess and maintain a favorable public image that respects the utility and value of the nursing profession. Aim: This study aims to validate an instrument for assessing the image of the nurse as perceived by Italian citizens. Methods: A non-probabilistic sample of 564 people participated in the study between 2022 and 2023. Sociodemographic information of the Italian citizens was collected, and the instrument used to evaluate the perceived public image was the Nursing Attitudes Questionnaire (NAQ). The psychometric properties of the Italian version of the NAQ (NAQ-IV) were calculated using Cronbach's alpha, item–total correlations, skewness, and kurtosis. Factor analysis was performed using principal axis factoring and the varimax rotation method. Results: Factor analysis revealed a four-factor model explaining more than 60.52% of the variance, with the largest variance explained by the "Role and Professionalism" factor (34.08%). The internal consistency calculation showed a Cronbach's alpha of 0.89 for the scale and between 0.88 and 0.89 among the factors; all the items verified the item–total correlation and response variability criteria. Conclusions: The NAQ-IV could be a valid tool for assessing the perception of Italian citizens. The power behavioural system is a neurobehavioral system that motivates a person to acquire and control resources that are important for survival and reproductive success. When activated, its function is to protect or restore the sense of power, influence, or dominance. Repeated experiences of failure in achieving this goal may result in hyperactivation or deactivation of power-oriented behaviours (analogous to the secondary strategies observed with respect to the attachment behavioural system). Gaining a reliable and valid measure of hyperactivation and deactivation of the power system can be important for understanding an individual's responses to different social contexts and, in clinical settings, can help the therapist identify the client's difficulties that may undermine the therapeutic process. In the present study, we developed the Italian version of the Power Behavioural System Scale (PBSS), a self-report measure developed by Shaver et al. (2011) to assess individual differences in hyperactivation and deactivation of the power system. Results indicated an adequate fit to the expected two-factor model, and the measure proved to be reliable and had good convergent and structural validity, allowing the quantification of individual differences in power system hyperactivation and deactivation.

Prioritizing positivity is effective in enhancing positive emotional experiences in everyday life. While a measure of prioritizing positivity is imperative for positive psychology interventions, no scale has been developed to measure this construct for Italian speakers. The current study developed and examined the psychometric properties of an Italian version of the Prioritizing Positivity Scale (I-PPS). Italian participants (N = 501) completed self-report measures of the I-PPS, broad personality, related psychological constructs, and indicators of well-being. Results showed strong evidence for a unidimensional model with factor loadings ranging from 0.67 to 0.82. Correlations in the expected directions were found between the I-PPS and broad personality traits, related psychological constructs, and well-being. Gender and language measurement invariance of the I-PSS revealed strict invariance between genders and metric invariance between the English (N = 642) and Italian versions. Overall, this study provides preliminary evidence that the I-PPS has adequate psychometric properties. IntroductionReliable and valid assessment tools are needed to evaluate and predict physical function in older hospitalized patients. The aim of this study is to develop the Italian version of the Elderly Mobility Scale (I-EMS) and to evaluate its validity and inter-rater reliability for use with geriatric inpatients.MethodsThe study consists of two phases: (i) translation, where EMS version 2 was translated into Italian by two teams, each comprising 2 bilingual physiotherapists; translations were back translated by 2 native English speakers, and a committee of 2 physiotherapists and 1 physician refined the initial I-EMS version, which was pilot-tested for clarity in a group of ten experienced geriatric physiotherapists; (ii) an observational study assessed I-EMS metrics (reliability, validity) in older Italian inpatients at IRCCS INRCA (Ancona, Italy) between September 2022 and April 2023.ResultsNo statistically significant differences were found between the scores of individual items and the total score assigned by different raters. In this study, we validate a French and Italian version of the Conspiracy Mentality Scale (CMS). French (N = 160) and Italian (N = 114) speaking residents of Switzerland filled out a questionnaire, including measures of the need for social validation, compliance with COVID-19 preventive measures, perceived severity of the pandemic, and functional literacy. The two-dimensionality of the scale (conspiracy theory ideation and skepticism) was validated by confirmatory factor analysis. As predicted, conspiracy theory ideation was negatively related to functional literacy and compliance with pandemic control measures, and positively related to social validation. Measurement invariance indicated metric, scalar, residual and strucutral equivalence across the two samples. We conclude that the French and Italian versions of the CMS lend a valid assessment of people’s general tendency to believe conspiracy theories.

The Aachen Aphasia Test (AAT) is still the main test in use for the evaluation of aphasic deficits in German-speaking individuals (Huber et al., 1983, 1984). The test has also been adapted to the Italian language (Luzzatti et al., 1996) and was administered to 384 people with aphasia (PWA) almost exclusively after left-hemisphere brain damage (plus 24 individuals with residual symptoms and 8 without aphasia) and 88 control individuals. The study of construct validity and reliability, as well as norm data, were based on those 343 PWA who passed the preliminary examination for applicability of the Token Test. Motivated by current calls for improving the quality of outcome measures in aphasiology, we re-analyzed the psychometric properties of the Italian version of the AAT (IT-AAT) in an enlarged participant sample, and, for key analyses, with more recent psychometric methods. The overall sample comprised 674 PWA (plus 89 individuals with left-brain damage, including 60 individuals with residual aphasic symptoms and 29 individuals without aphasia). The investigation of construct validity, reliability, and extended norm data was based on the subset of 598 PWA who passed the AAT Token Test inclusion criterion. Assessment of construct validity, differential validity, and reliability aspects corroborated the earlier test properties. The extended norm data applied to the performance of an exemplary PWA yielded unanimous assignment to a Wernicke-type aphasia at initial assessment, which evolved, after speech-language therapy, to an impairment pattern consistent with conduction aphasia, characterized by disproportionately poorer performance in subtest Repetition than in subtest Comprehension. Significant improvement could be demonstrated for all subtests, which remained reliable even after taking into account the average expected increase in scores due to spontaneous recovery. The psychometric properties and the enlarged normative sample size are well suited for a valid application of diagnostic psychometric single-case analysis procedures to individual patients' AAT performance profiles and their comparison to detect changes in performance over time. The study aims to analyze factor structure and psychometric properties of the Italian version of the Academic Motivation Scale-College (AMS-C). Overall, 797 university students completed the AMS-C (28 items). Measurement invariance across gender was tested. Confirmatory factor analysis did not confirm the original 7-factor structure. Exploratory factor analysis was conducted with one split-half subsample indicating a good model fit for a 4-factor solution, which was confirmed by the CFA with the second split-half subsample. The Italian version of the AMS-C consists of 26 items, tapping four meaningful and reliable factors (Introjected Motivation, Intrinsic Motivation, Extrinsic Motivation, Amotivation) which covered, with a new meaningful configuration, all the seven factors of the original tool. Findings revealed satisfactory internal consistency, convergent, discriminant, and criterion validity. Measurement invariance across gender was also supported. Giftedness in Italy is still a poorly regulated topic. Moreover, despite the fact that about 5% of the population is gifted, there is no specific compulsory training for teachers. An early identification of the gifted children is therefore desirable. The Gifted Rating Scales (GRS), by Pfeiffer-Jarosewich (2003) are among the most used tools to identify giftedness early, after the IQ test. It is a diagnostically appropriate screening tool, designed to be used simply and effectively by teachers. It is available in two versions, GRS-P (preschool age group 4-6 years) and GRS-S (school age group 6-13 years), and it aims at assessing the teacher's perception of the student's level of competence with respect to peers, in different areas: intellectual ability, scholastic ability, artistic talent, creativity, motivation and leadership (the latter is present only in GRS-S). Given their high psychometric strength, they have been translated and validated in many languages. The validation of the Italian version of the GRS-S was initiated by Beretta-Zanetti on a sample of 449 subjects from Lombardy (northern Italy), to which were added 142 subjects from Rome. As a part of this research, the GRS-S were administered to a sample of 204 children between 6 and 14 years from Central Italy (Umbria Region), after appropriate teacher training. As such, the sample size from Central Italy was expanded. The following properties were then investigated: asymmetry, kurtosis, affectivity and corrected item-total correlation. The internal consistency between scales was evaluated through the Cronbach alpha coefficient and the standard error of measurement. The validity was analysed by correlation of the scales and by exploratory factor analysis. The results showed adequate psychometric properties and a satisfactory internal consistency; however, some critical issues emerged (very high values of the Cronbach alpha index and a 5-factor solution in the exploratory factor analysis) which have been extensively discussed and for which some hypotheses have been advanced (for example redundancy of items and interpretative bias of teachers), while considering the limited sample size of this research and recognizing the value of the studies on the same instrument that preceded it. Therefore, the reliability of the Italian version of the GRS-S is confirmed, and for greater completeness of the data and homogeneity of the sample, it would be advisable to collect data from a sample from schools in Southern Italy. The present study investigated the Italian version of the Decent Work Scale (DWS) with a sample of 645 workers (females = 65.1%; mean age = 43.9 years; SD = 10.9) according to a network perspective. We compared factorial and network models and estimated the regularized partial correlations for the five DWS domains: physically and interpersonally safe working conditions (SC), access to healthcare (AH), adequate compensation (AC), hours that allow for free time and rest (FT) and organizational values complement family and social values (CV). The results highlighted that the network model showed the best fit to the data. Among the most central domains in the network, the high centrality of CV suggests that this domain could represent an effective target for actions addressed to fostering decent work in Italy. Émilie du Châtelet (1706-1749), encouraged by various intellectuals and by Voltaire, whose lover and companion she was, to abandon the frivolous world of the Parisian aristocracy to embrace literature and scientific studies, is considered the woman of the Enlightenment for excellence. His La Fable des abeilles, an unfinished and unpublished attempt to adapt Mandeville’s The Fable of the Bees, preserved as a manuscript in the Russian National Library in St. Petersburg, is the oldest of the writings that have come down to us. Born as a translation project, the text includes several entirely original sections, in particular the comments and a long preface, in which Émilie du Châtelet draws attention to the condition of women in the eighteenth century and the exclusion of women from philosophical and scientific education. The volume proposes the first critical edition of the French manuscript and the first complete Italian version.

Background: Patient-reported outcome measures are largely used in clinical practice and scientific community. Michigan hand questionnaire (MHQ) is widely recognized as a standardized reliable instrument for the assessment of any kind of hand disorders. Aim of the study: translation, cross-cultural adaptation and validation of the Italian version of MHQ. Methods: The study was composed by two phases. Phase 1 consisted in translation and cross-cultural adaptation of MHQ, from original language version (English) into Italian, according to the standard procedure of translation and back translation. The final Italian version of MHQ was tested on 136 Italian patients with hand disorders (Phase 2), in addition to Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand (DASH) questionnaire, Visual analogue scale (VAS) for pain assessment and grip strength, to psychometric properties of the new version, 55 patients repeated the questionnaire after 7 days for test-retest to assess the reproducibility of the questionnaire. All data were subsequently analyzed (descriptive statistics, multitrait analysis, reliability and construct validity assessment). Results: Phase 1 was performed without major problems, thus the final Italian version was approved for Phase 2. The questionnaire was clear and easily understood (missing data 0–2.9%). Multitrait analysis brought very good results for each outcome measure. High reliability (Cronbach's alpha: 0.91–0.99) and very good reproducibility (Intraclass correlation coefficients: 0.83–0.98) were revealed. High to moderate correlation was found between MHQ and DASH, grip strength and VAS. Conclusions: The Italian version of MHQ has demonstrated to be reliable and valid. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Dental anxiety (DA) is defined as unreasonable apprehension toward dental procedures. About 4–20% of the worldwide adult population presents DA, with peaks of 30% in the younger population. Managing patients with dental anxiety and fear with a reliable and valid instrument is necessary to understand the multidimensional dimensions of dental fear. This work aimed to validate the Index of Dental Anxiety and Fear (IDAF-4C+) into Italian. Two hundred and eighty dental students attending an Italian university were enrolled. The IDAF-4C+ was translated by experts and a native English translator, blinded to the original version. The Modified Dental Anxiety Scale (MDAS) was used to assess the validity of IDAF-4C+. Spearman correlation coefficients and Exploratory Factorial Analysis (EFA) were used. Reliability was evaluated by Cronbach’s alpha. The reliability of the Italian version of IDAF-4C+ was good (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.88). Correlation between IDAF-4C+ and MDAS ranged between 0.42 to 0.68. From EFA, one factor explained 58.76% of the common variance. Women showed a higher level of dental fear. The Italian IDAF-4C+ is a valid and reliable tool to assess DA in any clinical context. This instrument allows for a proper understanding and management of DA, and therefore a better patient oral health-related quality of life and compliance with the dentist’s instructions.

Cognitive Function Instrument (CFI) is a questionnaire aimed at detecting very early changes in cognitive and functional abilities and useful for monitoring cognitive decline in individuals without clinical impairment. The Italian version has been recently validated. The aim of the present study was to investigate the utility of the Italian version of CFI in tracking early cognitive changes in a cohort of healthy elderly subjects. A consecutive series of 257 cognitively healthy and functionally independent subjects, recruited either among relatives of patients attending our Memory Clinic or as volunteers after advertisement, underwent a baseline neuropsychological assessment. Of them, 157 subjects performed a 1-year follow-up assessment. All subjects completed the CFI, a short questionnaire composed of 14 items administered to both the subject and the referent (study-partner). Cognitive performance was assessed by Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) and the Repeatable Battery for the Assessment of Neuropsychological Status (RBANS). At 1-year follow-up, Cronbach's α was 0.79 (95% CI, 0.74-0.84) in self-report and 0.83 (95% CI, 0.79-0.87) for partner-report. CFI self-report correlated with MMSE (rS = - 0.22, p = 0.006) and RBANS (rS = - 0.23, p = 0.004). CFI partner-report showed negative correlation with MMSE (rS = - 0.17, p = 0.037) and RBANS (rS = - 0.20, p = 0.014). CFI 1-year follow-up score correlated with baseline both in self-report (rS = 0.56, p < 0.001) and partner-report (rS = 0.66, p < 0.001). Baseline CFI partner-report (p = 0.014) and CFI self+partner report (p = 0.023) were associated with RBANS total score less than 85 at 1-year follow-up, while only a trend was found considering baseline CFI self-report. Introduction: The Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS-9) and the Parkinson Fatigue Scale (PFS-16) are commonly used for assessing fatigue in Parkinson's disease (PD). Here we validated the Italian version of these scales, assessed their psychometric properties by Rasch analysis, and computed their optimal cut-off scores using clinical diagnosis of PD-related fatigue as the gold standard.Methods: PD patients (n = 167) completed the Italian versions of FSS-9 and PFS-16. Each item of PFS-16 was scored both on a 5-point (PFS-16polytomous) and on a 2-point scale (PFS-16dichotomous).Results: All scales showed an adequate overall Rasch model fit, high reliability, and good discriminant, convergent, and concurrent validity, but were less accurate in measuring very high and very low fatigue levels. No evidence of differential item functioning with respect to age, sex, and severity of parkinsonian symptoms was found. Some items of FSS-9 (item 1), PFS-16polytomous (items 1 and 13), and PFS-16dichotomous (items 1, 8, and 13) showed misfit, possibly due to their content concerning sleep and motivation disorders. When FSS-9 and PFS-16polytomous' responses were rescored on a 3-point scale, the discriminability across response categories improved. The optimal cut-off score in detecting clinically-diagnosed fatigue (observed in 20% of the sample) was 3.09 for PFS-16polytomous, 8.00 for PFS-16dichotomous, and 4.67 for FSS-9.Conclusions: The Italian version of PFS-16 and FSS-9 showed sound psychometric properties and can be confidently used to quantify fatigue symptoms in PD, although clinical diagnosis of fatigue should rely on validated criteria. The aim of this study was to examine the psychometric properties of the Disgust Scale-Revised (DS-R) in a large community sample in Italy. Participants (845 Italians, aged 20–46; 50.1% women) completed a battery of self-report questionnaires: the DS-R, the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, the Big Five Observer, and the Padua Inventory. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses supported a six-factor dimensionality of the DS-R in the Italian population. The six-factor structure was partially scalar invariant across gender groups. The data provided some evidence of the scale's reliability for the sample. Correlations of the DS-R score with the assessed personality dimensions were consistent with the disgust literature. The six-factor dimensionality of the Italian version of the DS-R included the Animal reminder factor, which has also been found in other cultures. The second factor, which we named "Contamination by food," only partially overlapped the Contamination factor of previous samples. The four remaining factors seemed to assess distinct facets of the Core disgust factor. This also emerged in previous studies. For these four, there was only a partial overlap between the Italian and other populations, suggesting the relevance of cultural differences in the assessment of disgust. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract The aim of this study is to explore the understanding of decent work in the Italian context and to examine the validity of the Italian version of the Decent Work Scale. Four hundred and thirty-six Italian workers were involved in the study. Dimensionality, reliability, and construct validity of the Decent Work Scale were analysed. Confirmatory factor analysis supported a bifactor model of the instrument consistent with the original version. In addition, solid evidence for internal consistency and validity was found. Results suggest that the Italian version of the Decent Work Scale is a valid instrument for measuring the construct of decent work in the Italian context. Furthermore the responses to an open-ended question were examined for a sub-sample of 246 participants in order to extend the quantitative findings and further clarify the nature of the construct in Italy. The qualitative analysis revealed components of decent work reflected in the original Decent Work Scale and others aligned with the broader Psychology of Working Framework/Theory (PWF/PWT). The quantitative and qualitative findings offer directions for future research and intervention. The Empathy Quotient (EQ) scale is a self-report measure designed to assess empathy in adults. Although the scale is widely used and has been validated into different languages, its dimensionality is still controversial, as well as it is not clear which scale version should be considered. The aim of the present study was to investigate the psychometric properties of the EQ scale. The Italian version of the EQ scale was administered to a sample of 633 adults. Results showed that the 15-item EQ scale version proposed by Muncer and Ling (2006) had excellent reliability and validity indices, with a gender invariant three-factor structure (Cognitive Empathy, Emotional Reactivity, and Social Skills) and a higher order factor of general empathy. This paper aims to propose the Italian version of the Self-Compassion Scale (SCS, Neff, 2003b) and to provide new evidence concerning its relationships with various forms of self-view and well-being. In the first study, we analysed whether the scale preserved its original psychometric features. Among the tested models, both a six-factor and a bifactor model showed adequate fit indexes, sustaining the employment of both the six subscales and a total self-compassion score. In the second study, through Confirmatory Factor Analysis and partial correlations, we explored convergent, divergent, and predictive validity of the scale. As expected, self-compassion was associated with, yet distinguishable from, self-esteem and low labile self-esteem scores, and it was unrelated to narcissism and self-enhancement. -Moreover, self-compassion maintained its link with well-being variables also controlling for self-esteem, labile self-esteem, narcissism, and self-enhancement. Findings suggest that self-compassion may be conceived as a healthy self-attitude, alternative to self-esteem, as it is related to self-esteem benefits (low labile self-esteem and well-being), but not with its potential downsides (narcissism and self-enhancement). Therefore, self-compassion appears as a self-caring disposition that does not lead to overly positive self-evaluations and self-image enhancement. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Spinal and Bulbar Muscular Atrophy Functional Rating Scale (SBMAFRS) is an established rating instrument used to assess the functional status of patients with Spinal and Bulbar Muscular Atrophy (SBMA). Our aim was to validate an Italian version of the scale. We administered the SBMAFRS to sixty SBMA patients during routine follow-up of clinical evaluations. To estimate the test stability, the scale was re-administered to a subset of 39 randomly selected patients after 8 weeks. The patients underwent clinical evaluation including 6-min walk. Psychometric analysis included reliability assessment and factorial analysis. To evaluate convergent validity, correlations between SBMAFRS items and muscular force assessed by manual testing, ALSFRS total score and subscales scores, and forced vital capacity, were performed. Internal consistency as measured by Cronbach's alpha (total scale 0.85) was high. Test-retest reliability assessed by Spearman's rho was also high. Principal component analysis with varimax rotation yielded a four-factor solution accounting for approximately 79 % of the variance. The scale total score and subscales score were strongly correlated with respective items and subscores of the ALSFRS, with respiratory function and with the 6-min walk test. In conclusion, we performed an Italian validation of the only existing disease-specific Functional Rating Scale for SBMA patients. Our research explored the factor structure and the reliability of the Italian version of the Emotion Regulation Checklist [ERC; Shields, A.,& Cicchetti, D. (1997). Emotion regulation among school-age children: The development and validation of a new criterion Q-sort scale. Developmental Psychology, 33, 906-916], an instrument that has been widely adopted in studies using parents and/or teachers as informants. We carried out two studies evaluating the properties of the Italian ERC (ERC-I) when completed by parents and teachers, respectively. Study 1 participants were kindergarten and elementary school children for whom the ERC was completed by their mothers. Study 2 involved kindergarten and elementary school children for whom the ERC was completed by their teachers.
