Abstract

Inclusive electron scattering at carefully chosen kinematics can isolate scattering from short-range correlations (SRCs), produced through hard, short-distance interactions of nucleons in the nucleus. Because the two-nucleon (2N) SRCs arise from the same N-N interaction in all nuclei, the cross section in the SRC-dominated regime is identical up to an overall scaling factor, and the A/2H cross section ratio is constant in this region. This scaling behavior has been used to identify SRC dominance and to map out the contribution of SRCs for a wide range of nuclei. We examine this scaling behavior at lower momentum transfers using new data on $^2$H, $^3$H, and $^3$He which show that the scaling region is larger than in heavy nuclei. Based on the improved scaling, especially for $^3$H/$^3$He, we examine the ratios at kinematics where three-nucleon SRCs may play an important role. The data for the largest initial nucleon momenta are consistent with isolation of scattering from 3N-SRCs, and suggest that the very-highest momentum nucleons in $^3$He have a nearly isospin-independent momentum configuration, or a small enhancement of the proton distribution.

Abstract

In 2018, the E12-17-003 experiment was conducted at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (JLab) to explore the possible existence of an nnLambda state in the reconstructed missing mass distribution from a tritium gas target [K. N. Suzuki et al., Prog. Theor. Exp. Phys. 2022, 013D01 (2022), B. Pandey et al., Phys. Rev. C 105, L051001 (2022)]. As part of this investigation, data was also collected using a gaseous hydrogen target, not only for a precise absolute mass scale calibration but also for the study of Lambda/Sigma^0 electroproduction. This dataset was acquired at Q^2~0.5 (GeV/c)^2, W=2.14 GeV, and theta_{gamma K}^{c.m.}~8 deg. It covers forward angles where photoproduction data is scarce and a low-Q^2 region that is of interest for hypernuclear experiments. On the other hand, this kinematic region is at a slightly higher Q^2 than previous hypernuclear experiments, thus providing crucial information for understanding the Q^2 dependence of the differential cross sections for Lambda/Sigma^0 hyperon electroproduction. This paper reports on the Q^2 dependence of the differential cross section for the e + p -> e' + K^+ + Lambda/Sigma^0 reaction in the 0.2-0.8 (GeV/c)^2, and provides comparisons with the currently available theoretical models., Comment: 11 pages, 15 figures

Abstract

The electromagnetic form factors of the proton and neutron encode information on the spatial structure of their charge and magnetization distributions. While measurements of the proton are relatively straightforward, the lack of a free neutron target makes measurements of the neutron's electromagnetic structure more challenging and more sensitive to experimental or model-dependent uncertainties. Various experiments have attempted to extract the neutron form factors from scattering from the neutron in deuterium, with different techniques providing different, and sometimes large, systematic uncertainties. We present results from a novel measurement of the neutron magnetic form factor using quasielastic scattering from the mirror nuclei ^{3}H and ^{3}He, where the nuclear effects are larger than for deuterium but expected to largely cancel in the cross-section ratios. Abstract

A database is under construction to provide a complete collection of published basic properties of hypernuclei such as {\Lambda} binding energies, lifetimes, or excitation energies. From these values, averages with related errors are computed in a systematic way. For each property, the overall experimental situation is depicted in form of an ideogram showing the combined probability density function of the measurements. The database is accessible via a dynamic website at https://hypernuclei.kph.uni-mainz.de with an user interface offering customizable visualizations, selections, or unit conversions. Abstract

The small binding energy of the hypertrition leads to predictions of non-existence of bound hypernuclei for isotriplet three-body systems such as $nn\Lambda$. However, invariant mass spectroscopy at GSI has reported events that may be interpreted as the bound $nn\Lambda$ state. The $nn\Lambda$ state was sought by missing-mass spectroscopy via the $(e,e'K^+)$ reaction at Jefferson Lab's experimental Hall A. The present experiment has higher sensitivity to the $nn\Lambda$-state investigation in terms of better precision by a factor of about three. The analysis shown in this article focuses on the derivation of the reaction cross-section for the $^3{\rm{H}}(\gamma^{*},K^+)\textrm{X}$ reaction. Events that were detected in an acceptance, where a Monte Carlo simulation could reproduce the data well ($|\delta p/p| < 4\%$), were analyzed to minimize the systematic uncertainty. No significant structures were observed with the acceptance cuts, and the upper limits of the production cross-section of the $nn\Lambda$ state were obtained to be $21$ and $31~\rm{nb/sr}$ at the $90\%$ confidence level when theoretical predictions of $(-B_{\Lambda}, \Gamma) = (0.25,0.8)$ and $(0.55, 4.7)$ MeV, respectively, were assumed. Abstract

A mass spectroscopy experiment with a pair of nearly identical high-resolution spectrometers and a tritium target was performed in Hall A at Jefferson Lab. Utilizing the (e,e′K+) reaction, enhancements, which may correspond to a possible Λnn resonance and a pair of ςNN states, were observed with an energy resolution of about 1.21 MeV (σ), although greater statistics are needed to make definitive identifications. An experimentally measured Λnn state may provide a unique constraint in determining the Λn interaction, for which no scattering data exist. In addition, although bound A=3 and 4 ς hypernuclei have been predicted, only an A=4 ς hypernucleus (Heς4) was found, utilizing the (K-,π-) reaction on a He4 target. The possible bound ςNN state is likely a ς0nn state, although this has to be confirmed by future experiments.

JLab E12-19-002 Experiment is planned to measure the Λ-binding energies of 3ΛH [Jπ = 1/2+ or 3/2+(T = 0)] and 4ΛH (1+) at JLab Hall C. The expected accuracy for the binding-energy measurement is |ΔBtotal Λ | ≃ 70 keV. The accurate spectroscopy for these light hypernuclei would shed light on the puzzle of the small binding energy and short lifetime of 3ΛH, and the chargesymmetry breaking in the ΛN interaction. We aim to perform the experiment in 2025.

Abstract

Missing-mass spectroscopy with the 3H(e, e′K+) reaction was carried out at Jefferson Lab’s (JLab) Hall A in Oct–Nov, 2018. The differential cross section for the 3H(γ∗, K+)Λnn was deduced at ω = Ee − Ee′ = 2.102 GeV and at the forward K+-scattering angle (0° ≤ θγ∗K ≤ 5°) in the laboratory frame. Given typical predicted energies and decay widths, which are (BΛ, Γ) = (−0.25, 0.8) and (−0.55, 4.7) MeV, the cross sections were found to be 11.2 ± 4.8(stat.)+4.1−2.1(sys.) and 18.1 ± 6.8(stat.)+4.2−2.9(sys.) nb/sr, respectively. The obtained result would impose a constraint for interaction models particularly between Λ and neutron by comparing to theoretical calculations.

Abstract

We performed an experiment using tritium and hydrogen cryogenic gas targets at Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (JLab) in 2018 (E12-17-003)[1, 2]. In this article, we discuss the Λ/Σ0 hyperon electroproduction from hydrogen target. Elementary Λ/Σ0 hyperon production processes are important not only for an absolute mass scale calibration in our experiment, but also for the study of the electroproduction mechanisms themselves. In this article, we reported the results of the differential cross section for the p(e, e’K+)Λ/Σ0 reaction at Q2 ∼ 0.5 (GeV/c)2.

Abstract

The small binding energy of the hypertriton leads to predictions of the non-existence of bound hypernuclei for isotriplet three-body systems such as nnΛ. However, invariant mass spectroscopy at GSI has reported events that may be interpreted as the bound nnΛ state. The nnΛ state was sought by missing-mass spectroscopy via the (e, e′K⁺) reaction at Jefferson Lab’s experimental HallA. The present experiment has higher sensitivity to the nnΛ-state investigation in terms of better precision by a factor of about three. The analysis shown in this article focuses on the derivation of the reaction cross-section for the ³H(γ*, K⁺)X reaction. Events that were detected in an acceptance, where a Monte Carlo simulation could reproduce the data well ($|delta p/p| lt 4%$), were analyzed to minimize the systematic uncertainty. No significant structures were observed with the acceptance cuts, and the upper limits of the production cross-section of the nnΛ state were obtained to be 21 and $31 , rm {nb} , rm {sr}^{-1}$ at the $90%$ confidence level when theoretical predictions of (−BΛ, Γ) = (0.25, 0.8) MeV and (0.55, 4.7) MeV, respectively, were assumed. Abstract

An n n Λ , which consists of two neutrons and a Lambda hyperon, is a multi-baryon system with no charge. Studying the n n Λ state would provide information about the Λ n interaction which has not been directly measured by a scattering experiment. The experiment (E12-17-003) was performed in order to search for the n n Λ state at Jefferson Lab. The n n Λ is expected to be produced by the (e , e ′ K +) reaction, which has sensitivity to both bound and resonance states if the natural width of the n n Λ is narrow enough to be observed as a peak. The experiment used gas targets of hydrogen and tritium for mass calibration and the n n Λ production, respectively. The mass calibration with H (e , e ′ K +) Λ / Σ 0 reactions gave the mass resolution of the Λ and Σ 0 each 3.5 MeV / c 2 FWHM, for the elementary reaction. A spectrum of 3 H (e , e ′ K +) X was obtained, and a simple model with a Λ n final state interaction was applied to reproduce the spectrum. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The ΛN interaction is able to be studied with Λ hypernuclei. A missing mass spectroscopy with the (e, e′K+) reaction was developed and established at Jefferson Lab. The (e, e′K+) experiment achieved the best precision and accuracy in reaction spectroscopy of hypernuclei. In this article, we introduce the latest results of JLab E05-115 with a discussion of the ΛN charge symmetry breaking in p-shell hypernuclei. In addition, an analysis status of the nnΛ search experiment (JLab E12-17-003) is presented. Abstract

BACKGROUND: CD4(+)CD25(+) regulatory T (T(reg)) cells can control the allergic response to allergen, airway eosinophilia and airway hypersensitivity. We speculated that chronic inflammation persisting in asthma airways is dependent on abnormalities of these T(reg) cells. There are differences in the pathology of asthma in adults and children, and the airways of pediatric asthma are considered to be more naive than those of adults. Therefore, we analyzed the functionality of T(reg) cells in pediatric asthma and the relationship between T(reg) function and asthma symptoms. METHODS: The anergic state, which is one of the defining properties of T(reg), was analyzed by measuring intracellular Ca(2+) influx following T cell receptor (TCR) stimulation. FOXP3-positive cells and FOXP3 mRNA expression were measured by flow analysis and real-time PCR with the SYBR method, respectively. RESULTS: CD45RO(+) cells make up approximately 99% of CD4(+)CD25(high) T cells and 89% of CD4(+)CD25(low) T cells in human adult blood. The proportion of CD45RO(+) cells in CD4(+)CD25(+) (high + low) T cells from pediatric asthma was much smaller (about 56%). Interestingly, our data indicated that CD45RO(+) T(reg) cells from pediatric asthma aberrantly increased intracellular Ca(2+) concentrations following TCR activation compared with pediatric nonasthma controls. CONCLUSION: These impaired CD45RO(+) T(reg) cell functions were correlated with asthma symptoms. The correlation was observed in the group with a highly expressed atopic phenotype and longer duration of asthma. We suggest that chronic inflammation in pediatric asthma airways may be the result of impaired regulatory functions of CD45RO(+) T(reg) cells.

Abstract

We present electrical transport and optical properties of Ta-doped TiO2 epitaxial thin films with varying Ta concentration grown by the pulsed laser deposition method. The Ti0.95Ta0.05O2 film exhibited a resistivity of 2.5×10-4 Ω cm at room temperature, and an internal transmittance of 95% in the visible light region. These values are comparable to those of a widely used transparent conducting oxide (TCO), indium tin oxide. Furthermore, this new material falls into a new category of TCOs that utilizes d electrons.
