Fashion Museum ,Sustainability ,Immaterial Heritage ,Covid-19 ,[SHS.MUSEO]Humanities and Social Sciences/Cultural heritage and museology - Abstract
A particularity of fashion heritage lies in its capacity to renew the narrative forms of appearance woven between designers, producers and consumers, considering that forms of appearance are forms of expression of the “I” and the “We” (Simmel, G., American Journal of Sociology 62, 541-548, 1957; Crane, D., Fashion and its social agendas: class, gender, and identity in clothing. The University of Chicago Press, Chicago and London, 2000), with a strong repercussion in social terms, influencing the wellbeing and the construction of the life project of each and every individual. From this fact derives the power that fashion has been exercising throughout history. The diversity of fashion objects and the techniques and expertise related to their production, selling and use, and the multidisciplinary research based on all these aspects, contribute to the transmission of these narratives, raising the question of the definition and justification of heritage. Each of the case studies in this book reveals different social, political, economic and cultural motivations for the desire to ‘make heritage’. In a context of climate change and the unprecedented health crisis linked to the Covid-19 epidemic, the fashion and clothing industries have lessons to learn from the past and a reflection to make about the present and the future. It is within this frame that we propose a reflection on the role narratives play in the construction of knowledge and creativity, with knowledge and creativity at the core of what may be considered fashion heritage.

- Abstract
This edited volume explores how fashion brands deal with legacy by looking at the preservation of heritage and knowledge and how this builds a bridge to the future. Bringing together different reflections from the world of fashion, from gloves to virtual jewels, from luxury brand's digital narratives to historical contexts, each chapter offers a narrative that is contemporary, yet linked to historical contexts. With these narratives, the book reveals how innovation builds on heritage, and how locally rooted traditional techniques connect to contemporary global production. It illustrates how ancestral processes renew, encouraging us to produce and consume more responsibly. Split into three parts, the book firstly covers narrative and knowledge in different contexts before delving in to narrative, brand building and creativity with case studies. The final section centres on digital narratives with new consumers. Ultimately, this book demonstrates that multidisciplinary knowledge of the past is essential to the understanding of the contemporary.

History ,Transcendence (philosophy) ,Expression (architecture) ,Aesthetics ,Phenomenon ,Human life ,Meaning (existential) - Abstract
Luxury has existed since humans showed signs of life on planet Earth, even before the obvious accumulation of wealth. It manifested itself in adornments and celebrations, being apparently superfluous and, yet, without it, human life seems to lose its meaning nor be worth living. In this sense, luxury is a phenomenon that is deserving of our attention and helps us to understand human beings through their transcendence. Since its origin, Luxury fashion has had an emotional basis and, at the same time, it is an expression of the dialogues between the “self” and “others”. Therefore, in this book we suggest an discerning reflection on the relationship between these two aspects with a view to contributing to a deeper understanding of luxury fashion.

- Abstract
Offering an original contribution to the field of luxury and fashion studies, this edited collection takes a philosophical perspective, addressing the idea that humans need luxury. From this framework it delves deep into two particular dimensions of luxury, emotions and society, and concludes with cases of brand building in order to illustrate the two dimensions at work. Comparative analysis between countries is brought together with an emphasis on China. Chapters address the ongoing growth in the market, as well as the significant changes in the sector brought about by fast international expansion and an increased focus on ethical supply and sustainability, making the book an insightful read for scholars of fashion business, luxury and branding.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to explore the linkage among three factors – shareholder‐manager relationships (or corporate governance), customer supplier relationships, and innovation, for two groups of UK firms in the speciality chemicals and electrical equipment industries.Design/methodology/approachThis research was exploratory. In total, 12 companies were studied in depth. The level of innovation was measured through a questionnaire and interviews were carried out with managers, important customers and suppliers. A comparison of management practices was established between the more and the less innovative companies.FindingsThis research finds a close connection between shareholder‐manager relationships, customer and supplier relationship management and innovation. The firms subject to arms‐length relationships with shareholders (as UK‐based public limited companies) had more distant relationships with suppliers and customers and poorer innovative performance.Research limitations/implicationsThe validity and reliability of the conclusions require the undertaking of quantitative studies. Other aspects apart from those explored could affect the level of innovation of companies.Practical implicationsIn the more innovative companies, strategic and investment plans tend to look to the long‐term (five years plus). And, customers and suppliers are involved from the beginning in the development of new products and production processes. Lack of shareholder engagement strongly inhibits “long‐termist actions”, which include the development of such close relationships with customers and suppliers.Originality/valueThis paper is the first to look at the possible link between corporate governance, customer and supplier relationship management and the level of innovation and has research and practical implications.

The use of the construct “Brand Love” is relatively recent in explaining consumer behavior. However it is pertinent to think that a stronger consumer connection with a brand influences their behavior, particularly in terms of loyalty and willingness to pay a higher price for their “Brand Love”.

- Abstract
2009 was the annus horribilis for the Italian fashion industry, as all its components have scored negative performance. There are many reasons behind the crisis: some have affected the economy as a whole, take for instance the intense impact of the financial crisis on the real economy, others were strictly related to the fashion industry itself: saturation of traditional markets, growing competition from Asian countries, lack of government policies and absence of a legislation able to protect the "made in Italy". The key challenge therefore is how to overcome the crisis. Several strategies have been analyzed with a particular focus on the importance of networking, the legislative process of a law regulating the Made in Italy and, last but not least, the theoretical analysis of the concept of Made in Italy itself, considered as based on the ability of making and not simply on the making . It is therefore to combine the knowledge and technique (craftsmanship) to talent, creativity and research (the artistic side). It is a winning mix that represents the main Italian competitive advantage making its products stronger and stronger and able to compete on the global scenario. In order to understand the concrete meaning of craftsmanship, a case study has been deeply analyzed: Zanotti laboratory located in Legnano, a small town on the outskirt of Milan. This small productive unit can be considered representative of the Italian productive system as a whole as it is made mostly of small firms. The analysis of this symbolic production unit has shown that the ability of making has been the winner strategy to face every kind of crisis. The case study has also demonstrated the importance of the craftsmanship for medium and large companies as well, since small firms usually produce goods for big griffes. Moreover many top fashion companies, active on the global market, have focused their business and marketing strategies on the values of artistic craftsmanship, a tradition lasting
