3. On the Zero-Trust Intranet Certification Problem.

- Abstract
Securing corporate networks and ensuring the trustworthiness of network resources are critical security concerns for organisations in today's interconnected digital landscape. The zero-trust security model is an approach to designing and implementing ICT systems which prescribes that clients and servers cannot be trusted automatically, even when connected to networks traditionally considered trusted. The implementation of the zero-trust model within the corporate intranet requires a secure method to verify the identity of local servers. On the Internet, trust in the identity of public servers is established by well-known public Certificate Authorities (CAs), which issue digital certificates to securely identify servers. However, local intranet servers exist within the internal address space of the network. Consequently, it is impossible to naturally obtain digital certificates for these servers, validly signed by a public CA, without publicly disclosing sensitive information such as intranet server Domain Name System (DNS) records. This leaves organisations with the option of relying on endpoint management systems to install custom CA root certificates on all corporate browsers or, in some cases, ignoring the problem altogether. In this paper, we draw on practical experience in the deployment of cybersecurity devices in corporate intranets to formally define the intranet certification problem. We specify five requirements that a solution to this problem must satisfy. We then conduct a comprehensive review of existing candidate solutions and academic research relevant to the intranet certification problem. Specifically, existing ICT systems for public key infrastructure and endpoint management are identified and evaluated with respect to their ability to meet the stated requirements for solving the intranet certification problem, as well as their cost. Our study reveals that solutions that meet the technical and security requirements of the intranet certification problem are beyond the reach of smaller private sector companies and public sector organisations in underdeveloped and emerging economies. The high cost and technical expertise required for their implementation and management render these solutions impractical. Consequently, by relying on servers with self-signed certificates, these entities inadvertently leave their servers susceptible to impersonation, information theft, and unauthorised resource access, thus violating the fundamental principles of the zero-trust model. We conclude that a gap exists for a simple, cost-effective, and easily managed solution to the intranet certification problem. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

5. Evaluation of a Nursing Intranet Using a Two-Phase Approach.

An intranet is a beneficial tool, most commonly utilised and researched in corporate settings, but can also be found within healthcare. An organisational intranet has many of the same functions as the internet while also having a security firewall associated with it, meaning that only those with security access to the site are able to gain access. An evaluation study, using a two-phase process, of a Nursing Intranet within a healthcare organisation in one urban hospital in New Zealand is presented. First a content audit was undertaken, before using a selected framework to evaluate the content, design and functionality of the Nursing Intranet. The results from this evaluation identified some strengths, but also areas to improve. Further research, including the development of tools to evaluate intranets in a healthcare setting are needed to ensure information is more readily accessible to health professional staff. Orientation: Limited literature on onboarding during COVID-19 and the future of onboarding exists. Research purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the implementation of employee onboarding during COVID-19, as well as the future of onboarding within a South African municipality. Motivation for the study: This research was motivated by the difficulties encountered in conducting online employee onboarding during the COVID-19 pandemic, along with the uncertain landscape of onboarding practices within a South African municipality. Research approach/design and method: The research employed a qualitative approach, conducting interviews with participants from a South African municipality. Thematic analysis was utilised to examine the data. Main findings: Several themes on onboarding during COVID-19 emerged from the study, including the use of videoconferencing tools, intranet system usage, and more. The main themes of future onboarding were intranet, improving onboarding processes, and face-to-face onboarding. Several interviewees showcased frustration with the implementation of video conferencing tools, and the impact of load shedding. Participants suggested that onboarding practices might evolve beyond the pandemic as technology implementation becomes more commonplace. Practical/managerial implications: Human resource professionals must be prepared for the future of employee onboarding, embracing the technological advancements that facilitate this process. Failure to keep abreast with new technology will hinder employee onboarding efforts, potentially impeding their ability to effectively integrate new employees. Contribution/value-add: This study shed light on the state of employee onboarding within a South African municipality, and can assist to improve the onboarding process and render it future fit.

The role of data visualization inside companies today, and with increasing emphasis in the near future, will play an essential role not only for the management of discrete and/or isolated events, not only for the achievement of a better reputational positioning on an aesthetic level, but for generating long-term tangible change. The role of visualization in the corporate system of the near future will shape – through the critical lens of design – the organization as a whole and its results, determining its success in terms of sustainable innovation. This contribution explores a new model of intranet, as a functional and operational tool in response to contemporary changes in company dynamics, in individual as well as collective contributions. A tool in response to the need to understand the complexity of the company system, and in response to the need to define, redefine and communicate one’s culture in a more fluid dimension and aimed at exploration by enabling an open, shared, and collaborative environment (Mercanti, 2020). Again, a concrete functional/operational expression of a new business model. Denna studie undersökte interaktionsdesignen på Sundbybergs stads intranät i syfte att analysera hur olika designelement påverkar användarupplevelsen, med fokus på hittbarhet. Studien genomfördes med en kombination av intervjuer, Think Aloud-tester, enkätanalys och litteraturstudie. Med avstamp i kognitionsvetenskap baserades denna studie på teorierna om The Gulf of Execution, The Gulf of Evaluation samt gestalt- och designprinciper. Dessa teoretiska ramverk användes för att analysera och förstå användarnas interaktioner samt för att identifiera utmaningar och förbättringsområden på Sundbybergs stads intranät. Den sammanlagda analysen identifierade flera utmaningar, inklusive en otillräcklig sökfunktion, inkonsekvent kategorisering och brist på tydlig navigering. För att förbättra användbarheten på Sundbybergs stads intranät föreslogs flera åtgärder som visualiserades i ett gestaltningsförslag. Detta inkluderade en mer intuitiv navigationsstruktur och förbättrad layout av startsidan. Studien föreslog specifika designändringar, inklusive användningen av visuell hierarki, hovereffekter och en megameny för att göra gränssnittet mer intuitivt och minska den kognitiva belastningen för användarna. Genom att implementera dessa användarcentrerade designförslag kan intranätet utvecklas till att bli en förenande plattform som stödjer stadens vision om att "Sundbyberg växer med dig!", This study investigated the interaction design of Sundbyberg's municipal intranet with the aim of analysing how various design elements affect the user experience, focusing on findability. The study was conducted using a combination of interviews, Think aloud tests, survey analysis, and a literature review. Based on cognitive science, this study drew on theories of The Gulf of Execution, The Gulf of Evaluation, as well as gestalt and design principles. These theoretical frameworks were used to analyse and understand users' interactions and to identify challenges and areas for improvement in Sundbyberg's municipal intranet. The comprehensive analysis identified several challenges, including an idadequate search function, inconsistent categorization, and a lack of clear navigation. To improve the usability of Sundbyberg's municipal intranet, several measures were proposed, visualized in a design proposal. This included a more intuitive navigation structure and an improved layout of the homepage. The study proposed specific design changes, including the use of visual hierarchy, hover effects, and a mega menu to make the interface more intuitive and reduce cognitive load for users. By implementing these user-centered design proposals, the intranet can be developed into a unifying platform that supports the city's vision of "Sundbyberg grows with you!"

Firm‐wide integrated organisational applications such as intranets, enterprise portals, content repositories, and wikis are often instrumental in supporting knowledge work. Serving as centralised "containers" of codified content that facilitate knowledge work, one essential requirement is continuous reuse and management of codified content. In this paper, our investigation aims to determine suitable perspectives to manage codified content, by focusing on one specific integrated organisational infrastructure application, namely intranets. Findings from three case studies identified three modes to manage codified content for knowledge work for enterprise content systems and are: (a) shared, (b) controlled, and (c) informal. In addition, based on the three modes (or ways), findings also highlight four elements that impact the management of codified content for knowledge work, that is, (a) content contributions, (b) content sharing, (c) access to expertise, and (d) control of codified content. Evaluar el funcionamiento de los gestores de información y conocimiento implementados en el Instituto Superior de Tecnologías y Ciencias Aplicadas (InSTEC) es el objetivo de la investigación. Ello, no solo posibilita el mejoramiento futuro del desempeño de estos, sino también sirve como estudio preliminar para la inserción de otros gestores en el futuro. Los métodos de análisis documental y evaluación heurística sustentan las bases teóricas, mientras que las herramientas automáticas Nibbler, GooglePageRank, SEOptimer, Website Grader, la entrevista y las encuestas a usuarios evidencian el desempeño de los gestores. Los resultados revelaron que la calidad del sitio externo y de la intranet obtuvo 69,4% de competencia global. Varios de los indicadores de estos sitios se deben perfeccionar en aras de brindar un mejor servicio a los usuarios del Instituto en la gestión de la información y el conocimiento, tan necesaria en las universidades.

Nowadays, many universities face bandwidth saturation problem caused by several origins. These include youtube abusively use, online games and especially illegal downloading that makes havoc to Peer-toPeer protocol e.g. BitTorrent. The latter is often associated with data piracy and copyright violation. This article aims at presenting on one hand the impact of the use of Peer-to-Peer file sharing traffic on campus bandwidth by observation of BitTorrent traffic and on the other a method for limiting the illicit access to this kind of networks. For this purpose, we used a set of open source tools like wireshak sniffer software to capture Bitorrent traffic. Additionally, using the well-known Snort intrusion detection system with a number of adequate and new rules one can reduce bandwidth saturation problem. This solution allowed in our case, a bandwidth saturation reduction of 35%.

Según lo regulado por la Oficina Nacional de Normalización es necesario llevar a cabo el registro y control de la asistencia, estadía y puntualidad a nivel empresarial. Una de las formas es a través de métricas y reportes que ayuden a planificar, controlar y tomar buenas decisiones. El CITI cuenta con una herramienta que gestiona la seguridad del centro, pero el sistema está enfocado en los aspectos de autorización y control de trazas, excluyendo cualquier métrica que sirva de apoyo en la toma de decisiones. Se propone una solución de Inteligencia de Negocio que permita obtener conocimiento del comportamiento de la asistencia y estadía de sus empleadosa través del tiempo, por área, por plantilla o por dirección, guardando un histórico de las entradas y salidas del centro. En paralelo se desarrolla un módulo para la intranet del centro que permita generar reportes y métricas de forma dinámicaa partir de los datos obtenidos. El módulo está desarrollado en el CMS Orchard sobre el que se encuentra la intranet del centro, integrándolo como un nuevo servicio.Este brinda reportes y métricas sobre la asistencia y estadía del personal tanto a los jefes de sus trabajadores, como por empleado. Esta solución permite contar con información en cualquier instante de tiempo y con diferentes niveles de filtrado. Es posible realizar análisis estadísticos del comportamiento y evolución en el tiempo de las diferentes áreas, plantillas o por empleados y analizar el cumplimiento o no de la asistencia.

En el Complejo de investigaciones tecnológicas integradas (CITI) existiendo sistemas de telefonía procesando las comunicaciones. Uno es una planta analógica con 52 terminales contratada con la empresa ETECSA y el otro es un servidor de telefonía digital desarrollado sobre en el marco de trabajo Asterisk. Este servidor no permite la gestión de sus usuarios por lo que se encuentran definidos de forma estática sin poder crear nuevos, modificarlos o eliminarlos. Se propone un módulo integrado a la intranet del centro capaz de gestionar los usuarios del sistema de comunicaciones, así como brindar la salida de reportes acerca del estado de consumo de la telefonía IP del centro por cada usuario. También es de interés por parte del centro poder aplicar cuotas de tiempo a los usuarios con el fin de reducir costos con respecto a la telefonía. El módulo está desarrollado para el CMS Orchard, sobre el cual se encuentra desarrollada la intranet del centro lo que permitirá integrar el módulo como un servicio más de la intranet. A través del módulo es posible asociar usuarios del directorio activo del CITI a las distintas extensiones o usuarios del sistema, ello permite que cada usuario pueda entrar a la intranet y apreciar las estadísticas de su consumo telefónico y así poder planificarse su tiempo de llamada y contribuir al ahorro del presupuesto de la empresa.

This research is based on real issues that have been recognised within the global organisation, Rolls-Royce. The first aim concerned an issue that many companies face, the difficulty that employees face in locating the knowledge and information they require, especially in larger organisations. The developed solution of an Information Map proved to be a success in providing people within the Submarines business with the location of' Configuration Management information. The concept of the Information Map is one that can be adopted by any business as the stages in the tools development have been well documented within Chapters Four, Five and Six. Analysis of the success of the Information Map led to the derivation of 10 lessons learned. These were then verified in a second case study of an intranet development. The second aim of the research was to create a Knowledge Management framework that could be adapted by companies looking to invest in Knowledge Management and provide them with a guide to use. This framework was built from the lessons learned from the Information Map and from other best practice derived from available literature and within Rolls-Royce. The work conducted within the Support business tries to fill in gaps in current research by offering companies a new approach to Knowledge Management, which was based upon the way that industries work today. The creation of the Knowledge Management framework simplifies the work conducted and offers practitioners an easy, high-level approach to the adoption of Knowledge Management by grouping the process into ten steps. This is presented in a fashion that is easy to follow and ultimately offers a guide to make the best use of the resources and budget available to Knowledge Management practitioners. Overall the research addresses the 'real' issues faced by Knowledge Management practitioners. The main contributions to the Knowledge Management domain are the Information Map, action research approach, implementation of Knowledge Management tools for the users needs and a Framework as a guide for industry.

This work presents the analysis and modeling of communication network used for data transmission with multi-protocols in campus network. The designed network is based on the geographical location of communication nodes. (Colleges and centers). Network optimal backbone is first designed by Kruskal algorithm. It will be subject to reliability improvement by links addition. Tie-sets method is used to evaluate the network reliability. Communication nodes are modeled using local area network (LAN), server, links, router, switch, and Firewall. Intranet will be used as communication backbone mainly to connect different communication nodes with the Principal Communication Center (PCC) where the System Server (SS) is located. The connection of Intranet to the Internet is mad via the front-end system server (SS). Tikrit University Intranet (TUI) is taking as case study in the present research. Tikrit University sites are grouped into master communication nodes. Each node is composed from several colleges, centers, and administrative sections.

The aim of this research is to identify the employing of information and communication technologies in the administration of Yemeni universities reality and hoped, by identifying the areas of employment of information and communication technologies (computer, internal networks, the Internet, mobile phone) in the administration of universities, and figuring out the level of employment in the administration of Yemeni public and private universities. In order to achieve the objectives of the research, a list of areas of employment of information and communication technologies are prepared (computer, Intranet, Internet, mobile phone) in the administration of universities including (112) paragraphs, distributed to (16) universities, including (9) public universities, and (7) Private Universities. The results of the research found that the level of employment of electronic administration tools (computer, internal networks, Internet, mobile phone) in Yemeni universities are as follows: Computer is employed in the administration of public universities at a medium level of employment, while in the administration of private universities with a high level of employment, and in employing internal networks in the administration of public universities at a low level of employment, while employed in the administration of private universities at a medium level of employment. "Hållbar vision utan hållbar kommunikation?" är en studie med syfte att undersöka hur hållbar den strategiska kommunikationen är utifrån medarbetarnas uppfattningar, engagemang och tillfredsställelse. Studien har valt att fokusera på Naturbruksförvaltningens intranät, eftersom organisationen är geografiskt utspridd och fokuserar på hållbar utveckling. Studiens insamlingsmetod är en intervjumetod där tio stycken yrkeslärare intervjuas och studiens analysmetod är en tematisk analys. På det empiriska materialet appliceras teorin Uses and gratifications där underkategorierna informaiton och social tillhörighet samt frågan "Vad gör publiken med medierna?" tillämpas. Till sist appliceras begreppen push and pull media, tillfredsställelse, identitet och medarbetarengagemang på det empiriska materialet. Resultatet visar att den strategiska kommunikationen på intranätet inte är så hållbar som den skulle kunna vara av flera olika anledningar, främst utifrån yrkeslärarnas perspektiv men också utifrån teorin om Uses and gratifications.

God kommunikation är en förutsättning för att ett företag ska fungera. I takt med digitaliseringens utveckling har sättet att kommunicera information på förändrats. Företag bedriver i allt större utsträckning sin interna kommunikation via digitala kanaler och en vanligt förekommande kanal är idag ett företags intranät. Men för att en kommunikationsprocess ska vara lyckad krävs att informationen som förmedlas via intranätet faktiskt når ut och läses av företagets medarbetare. Tidigare forskning har visat att det är nödvändigt att utforma intranätet utefter medarbetarnas behov. Detta för att öka chansen till engagemang och inhämtandet av information. Därmed sågs det intressant att undersöka vilka faktorer som kan tänkas påverka en medarbetare att ta till sig information på intranätet och vilka behov som behövs uppfyllas för att öka dess delaktighet. Denna studie har genomförts med hjälp av en fallstudie på ett tillverkande företag. En intervju har använts för att inhämta empiri i form av nulägesbeskrivning av företagets interna kommunikation och intranät. Därefter har en enkät utformats, detta för att erhålla ett bredare urval av medarbetare och ge studien underlag för vad som är medarbetarnas behov och önskemål med ett intranät och dess innehåll. Därefter har insamlad teori och empiri analyserats och diskuterats för att slutligen komma fram med en behovspyramid för att uppnå ett engagerande intranät. Det identifierades att faktorer som är viktiga för att medarbetare ska ta till sig information på intranätet är, tillgång till arbetsdator och arbetstelefon, vetskaps om intranätets existens, kunskap i hur medarbetarna hittar till intranätet, definierat syfte och mål samt att intranätet är lättillgängligt, lättnavigerat och kontinuerligt uppdateras. För att få medarbetarna att inte bara besöka utan också engagera sig i intranätet behövs deras behov uppfyllas, att innehållet motiverar. In step with digitalizationdevelopment, the way of communicating information has changed. Companies areincreasingly conducting their internal communication via digital channels, and a commonchannel today is a company's intranet. But for a communication process to be successful, it isnecessary that the information conveyed via the intranet reaches and is read by the company'semployees. Previous research has shown that it is necessary to design the intranet according tothe needs of the employees. This is to increase the chance of engagement and the gathering ofinformation. Cilj ovog rada je izrada web-aplikacije koja će poboljšati proces održavanja kvizova u ugostiteljskim objektima. Web-aplikacija treba omogućiti lakše i elegantnije provođenje kvizova na način da se odgovaranje na pitanja te evaluacija odgovora ne vrše papirnatim putem, već putem aplikacije što će ubrzati cjelokupni proces i smanjiti količinu posla organizatorima kvizova. Korisnici web-aplikacije su organizator kviza te ekipe koje na tom kvizu sudjeluju. Iz tog je razloga aplikacija ostvarena u intranet okruženju bez oslanjanja na Internet te je naglasak stavljen na jednostavnost sučelja za natjecatelje koji kvizu pristupaju putem pametnih telefona. Osim toga, aplikacija je prenosiva i samostojeća kako bi organizatoru kviza bila omogućena što veća jednostavnost korištenja. Glavne tehnologije korištene u izradi web-aplikacije su Python, Flask, Vue.js, SQLite te PyInstaller, a u radu je objašnjena njihova funkcionalnost i kontekst u kojem se koriste prilikom izrade aplikacije. The aim of this paper is to create a web-application that will improve the process of holding pub quizzes. The web-application should enable easier and more elegant quizzes in such a way that answering questions and evaluating answers is not done on paper, but through the application, which will speed up the whole process and reduce the amount of work for quizmasters. Users of the web-application are the quizmaster and the teams that participate in the quiz. For this reason, the application was created in an intranet environment without relying on the Internet, and emphasis was placed on the simplicity of the interface for contestants who access the quiz via smartphones. In addition, the application is portable and stand-alone to offer the quizmaster the most simple way of using the application. The main technologies used in the development of the web-application are Python, Flask, Vue.js, SQLite and PyInstaller, and the paper explains their functionality and the context in which they are used when creating the application.

Organizations create competitive advantage by creating more economic value than their rivals. Increasing business competition and information technology development have both led to huge corporate organizational changes and have raised the importance of intangible assets along the value chain. Value creation and the success of organizations increasingly depends on the leverage of knowledge available internally, as nowadays it has become essential to understand employee portals’ business value and to build adequate change management programmes. The Balanced Scorecard (BSC) and Strategy Map (SM) show an organization’s objectives, how they are achieved, and the link between the goals of the various sub-units and how these act together to produce the overall results. BSC and SM clarify how intangible assets are aligned with strategy, to create value for the organization. However, the concerns related to change management seem not to have been properly addressed. To conveniently deal with these matters, the authors propose a framework to map the cause-effect relationships that generates business value, as well as provides top management and decision makers with the information needed for a suitable top-down commitment and sponsorship, which is essential to bring about the appropriate change management and benefits’ realization. SM and Benefits Dependency Network (BDN) were combined, resulting in a suitable framework to help organizations enhance their knowledge, mitigating the risk of investment failure or misuse, and a timely contribution to capture more value from investments in intangible assets. The developed framework helps organizations address their concerns related to value creation and change management, and it has been applied to this Employee Portal case study. This case study allows us to conclude that, although the promotion of organizational culture and corporate alignment are not usually frequent goals of organizations, and do not motivate investments in the development of employee portals, they are generally recognised as being essential tools for decision-making and value creation.
