Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a highly discussed subject, and its integration into our daily lives has grown significantly. This research evaluated how dental students in North Cyprus perceive and feel about artificial intelligence, with a focus on identifying educational needs to enhance their professional skills. A self-administered multiple-choice questionnaire with 24 questions was conducted. 5 questions focused on gathering basic demographic information, such as gender, age, academic year, AI knowledge self-assessment, dental news sources, and experience in AI development. The remaining 16 questions pertained to AI-related topics. In general, students stated that they have little knowledge about AI (71.4%), and usually get the latest medical and dental news and information through the Internet (65.7%). 43,6% of the participants were strongly agree that AI-related lectures should be included in the regular curriculum for dental hygiene. Male students showed that they have significantly more knowledge about AI than female students. (p<0.05) In general, participants demonstrated diminished confidence in AI. It is seen that the dental education curriculum provided minimal information about AI and most of the students stated that AI-related lectures should be included in the regular curriculum for dental hygiene. Based on these findings, it is important to arrange lectures and seminars aimed at enhancing dental students' comprehension of AI.

The current study examined the actions and thought processes second grade students experience while reading online, implementing a research based teaching strategy for new literacies, and Internet Reciprocal Teaching (IRT). In particular, strategies for how to critically evaluate online text were introduced to second grade students. Through IRT, second graders were able to evaluate online texts for relevance and credibility. Participants used several different strategies in determining credibility of online texts. They sought out more information about the website or author, used background knowledge about a particular website, looked at the URL, identified the number of ads on a webpage, and used other miscellaneous criteria. The current study can contribute to existing literature by exploring evaluation strategies that young students may already possess and addressing any possible relationships between IRT and evaluation strategies used by students while reading on the internet.

This article investigates technologies used for knowledge sharing among rice farmers in the Eastern Region of Ghana and suggests ways by which the use of technologies may be enhance rice farming. The research was underpinned by the pragmatic paradigm where a concurrent triangulation mixed method design was adopted. The data was drawn from 101 survey respondents and nine interview participants, consisting of rice farmers, farm managers and extension officers. The findings revealed elementary use of technologies, tools and systems for knowledge sharing among the rice farmers. The main social media platform used for knowledge sharing was WhatsApp. The platforms that were used the least were Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Imo and Instagram. Findings have implications for integrating various tools, technologies and systems into knowledge sharing among rice farmers. There is a need to address the challenges in structural-level technological infrastructures, architecture and functionalities, in order to build the technological competence of rice farmers. Farmers' knowledge of technology is influenced by training, motivation, and personal experiences. Previous studies on use of technologies in knowledge sharing focused on organisation. This article examines technology within the context of rice farming.

The objective of this study is to determine the ways in-service teachers in Turkiye make use of open educational resources and their opinions on using them. For this purpose, the explanatory sequential design has been employed. 588 teachers have participated in the quantitative part of the study; and ten have participated in the qualitative part on a voluntary basis. Data collection instruments have been (a) a personal information form developed by the researchers comprised of 16 questions and (b) a semi-structured interview form with 3 questions. The personal information form has been administered online to participants via social media. Whereas the interviews have been conducted using Zoom teleconferencing software. According to the findings, more than half of the teachers are knowledgeable on the matter of open educational resources and information resources consist of social media. It has been determined that female teachers make greater use of open educational resources than males. It has been established that the most significant affordance of open educational resources is the way it saves time and space for teachers, whereas lack of time and knowledge are the primary obstacles against using open educational resources. Additionally, the opinions of teachers show a demand from their employing organizations towards activities for raising awareness towards the matter of open educational resources and it has been shown that they wish to be encouraged on this matter. It has also been expressed that they expect quantitative and qualitative improvement of the resources provided by the Ministry of National Education, as well as support and cooperation on the use of open educational resources.

In design education, students benefit not only from their project courses' content but also from the information resources they contain. When it comes to the repetition of unique problems and solution-oriented approaches in the design professions, the resources used to research solutions for the problems encountered in design education are also specific to that problem. This situation highlights resource diversity, and especially resource sharing, at various stages and thus opens a view into innovation habits among designers' behaviors. This empirical study explores whether or not designers' behaviors can be related to their practices in design project courses, regarding their open innovation tendencies. Semi-structured interviews with 20 designers are used to form a case study. Interviewees had experience with both in-house designers and freelancers, therefore purposive sampling was used. The results were analyzed thematically and discussed under open innovation practices.

This article reports an English language needs analysis of Colombian Social Science master's students. Information from faculty interviews, course syllabi, and student surveys shows that students need English to access and update their disciplinary knowledge through research articles and book chapters to successfully participate in class activities in Spanish, for which low English proficiency and lack of graduate reading skills can be an obstacle. These findings inspired the creation of "Reading Research Articles in the Social Sciences" course and confirmed the importance of source variety, triangulation, and addressing needs when identified. Methodological and practical contributions are discussed, emphasizing syllabi as key information sources not considered in other needs analyses.

T his study aimed to determine the financial literacy levels of students studying in different programs at the university. For this purpose, the content of undergraduate education programs and the effect on the individual's financial literacy were investigated. The study assumes that financial literacy, which is necessary for life, will be gained by students, their families' awareness of the subject, and educational programs. The research was conducted with 335 students in four programs at the University of Prizren "Ukshin Hoti". The descriptive study conducted with a random sample group collected the data with the Financial Literacy scale. The scale applied consisted of four parts in total, such as the demographic characteristics of the students in the first part, Financial Product Knowing (13 questions), which measures financial literacy knowledge in the other sub-dimensions, Relation with Money (7 questions), and Information Source about Financial Products (15 questions). In addition, cluster analysis, comparative analysis, Chi-Square, and T-test analyses of the collected data were performed with the SPSS 28 program. As a result of the study, it was determined that the student's financial literacy and general success levels were at MEDIUM LEVEL. Although the students participating in the survey studied in different departments, there was no significant difference. According to the study results, it is concluded that the Financial Literacy knowledge of the students is not sufficient, and they need to have more information about themselves in this field. Similarly, in the light of the data obtained, it has been determined that providing various in-service training for the financial literacy levels of the students or adding Financial Literacy courses to the education programs will strengthen the student's knowledge of this subject and increase their awareness.

This study investigates college students' current food safety knowledge and food-handling perceptions and utilized an online survey which designed based on previous studies as method. The questionnaire measured respondents' food safety knowledge and perception, and were divided into knowledge, attitudes and perception categories. The results show that college students significantly lacked in basic food safety knowledge as well as food handling skills and implies a high need to develop enhanced food safety resources for college students, especially on topics related to cross-contamination prevention, correct food preparation procedures, time and temperature control, and awareness of pathogens that cause foodborne illness.

Extracurricular learning plays a key role in shaping students' interest in (not only) biology. The research examined which extracurricular areas related to biology can make biology more attractive for the participating Finnish and Czech students. A 5-point Likert scale questionnaire was administered to 178 Finnish and 195 Czech 9th-grade lower-secondary school students. Cronbach's alpha, Varimax rotation and Mann-Whitney U-test were performed. Factor analysis identified 7 areas: Family trips, My career, Biology lessons, Healthy lifestyle, Institutions, Nature-related hobbies, and Information sources. For Czech, hobbies related to nature and family trips are significant contributors to fostering interest in biology, and an informal educational environment is crucial for cultivating a lasting relationship with biology. For Finns, biology classes and career orientation have a more significant influence on students, demonstrating the effectiveness of formal educational strategies in increasing students' interest in biology. Increasing interest in biology among the students observed in both sociocultural environments is significantly influenced by family involvement and the use of information sources. Further research should explore how specific ECA can support the connection between family and school environments and their impact on students' interest and engagement in biology lessons.

Retractions have traditionally been reserved for correcting the scientific record and discouraging research misconduct. Nonetheless, the potential for actual societal harm resulting from accurately reported published scientific findings, so-called information hazards, has been the subject of several recent article retractions. As these instances increase, the extent of support for such decisions among the scientific community and lay public remains unclear. Undergraduates (Study 1) and federally funded researchers (Study 2) reported their support for retraction decisions described as due to misconduct, honest errors, or potential information hazards. Participants supported retraction on the former two grounds more than the latter. Despite limited support, women remained more receptive to retractions based on information hazards. Activist tendencies additionally predicted undergraduate men's receptivity. Receptivity toward retraction due to information hazards was unrelated to scientists' engagement in activism, suggesting that formal scientific training affords researchers an ability to separate personal and professional values in scientific discourse. Findings could inform the development of educational materials that may aid less experienced scientists and the lay public in understanding retraction ethics.

This study suggests the need for best practices, specialized tools and standards, and targeted outreach related to Web-based content cited in theses. It analyzes citation practices in a corpus of master's theses in performance studies published at Texas A&M University from 2012 to 2020. Finding that only a slim majority of Web-based material cited in the theses remains fully functional within a decade of citation, this study confirms that "Web at large" content poses the greatest risk of irretrievable loss. Additionally, it considers actions by student authors that make theses vulnerable to evidentiary loss or change. A deeper understanding of the fragility of Web-based content and the potential for mitigation can inform needed interventions by librarians and other partners in graduate research.

Biomedical engineering (BME) undergraduate curricula have begun to address gaps in diversity, especially in response to the newly proposed ABET diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) criteria. However, there is a significant lack of teaching resources, and pedagogical training available for those interested in including DEI into their course material. This is not restricted to BME and permeates many STEM fields. Thus, new engaging techniques to incorporate DEI into STEM teaching must be developed and tested. A mandatory undergraduate BME course at Stony Brook University was redesigned, to include DEI concepts directly into course content. Instructor generated resources were presented and discussed throughout the semester. These resources focused on introducing prominent scholars, engineers, and researchers, who rarely make it into textbook discussions, and their discoveries and contributions. A graded project was incorporated that asked students to generate their own resources, with the understanding that an overarching goal was to develop a library of information to be shared with our student population. After one semester, over seventy biographies have been collated. This approach worked well to highlight individual accomplishments of diverse scholars. Students appeared to be engaged with the discussion (observed through body language and participation), and appreciated researching a prominent engineer outside of those typically discussed. In the future, it will be important to link highlighted engineers more closely to course content, and to include key findings more directly within topics that are under discussion. Importantly, these efforts must be included within the graded course content to help ensure engagement, retention, and understanding.

Objective: This paper examines the ways in which young people in Eastern Canada learn about menstruation and construct personal period pedagogies through embodied experiences and encounters with digital and social media. Design: A qualitative exploratory approach was undertaken to elicit the stories and voices of young people who menstruate. Menstruation is conceptualised as a deeply bio-social phenomenon and knowledge was understood as created, contested and negotiated across settings and contexts. Methods: Semi-structured interviews were conducted with nine university students (ages 19-23 years) in Eastern Canada as part of a pilot project informing a broader study about menstruation education and menstrual experiences. To be eligible for inclusion, participants were required to have experienced one menstrual cycle in the past 6 months and engaged with social media at least once per week. Setting: This project was conducted in a small University town in Maritime Canada. Results: Young people interviewed learned about menstruation through knowledges assembled from conversations family members and peers, educational and medical settings and content encountered on social and digital media. Three themes were developed from the analysis. The first two capture how young people actively try to 'Fill in the Gaps' left by conventional menstrual education approaches and therefore turn to informal and narrative knowledges circulating on social media in efforts to answer the question 'Am I normal'. The third theme describes how participants actively 'Balance Authority and Intimacy' when seeking menstrual information that resonates with their embodied experiences. Conclusion: Substantial gaps exist in the menstrual knowledges available to young people, particularly in relation to the embodied and emotional dimensions of having and managing a period. Digital and social media have the capacity to contribute to personal period pedagogies by acknowledging and exploring aspects of menstruation not adequately addressed in other contexts.

Sourcing and intertextual integration skills are critical to the development of young students' digital literacy skills. Sourcing skills include identifying source parameters (e.g., recognizing the author, publication date, publisher) and analyzing the author's expertise. The objective of this study is to investigate which sourcing skills used by students in document selection are most associated with intertextual integration skills. A total of 165 students attending lower secondary school participated in the research. Students completed a sourcing inventory, an intertextual integration task (after reading multiple texts), and control variables measures (prior knowledge, prior beliefs, and text comprehension). The results of exploratory factor analysis showed three dimensions for sourcing, namely source identification, author's competence, and judgment on website choice. Furthermore, hierarchical regressions showed that author competence was the only sourcing factor associated with intertextual integration skills, after controlling for the effect of control variables. These results suggest that even younger students pay attention to author expertise when choosing texts to use for their assignments, and doing so enhances their competence in integrating information across sources.

LBGTQ+ students often miss the support and information they need in the school nursing, but little is known about junior high school (JHS) nurses' work with LGBTQ+ students. 15 JHS nurses were interviewed in focus groups about their perceptions of supporting LGBTQ+ students. Four interconnected themes were identified with inductive thematic analysis: (1) JHS nurses' professional identity and practice; (2) Recognition of sexual and gender diversity in school; (3) Family acceptance process; and (4) LGBTQ+ students as school nursing clients. JHS nurses self-identified as accepting professionals, but having limited skills, knowledge, and education needed in supporting LGBTQ+ students. Supporting LGBTQ+ students is a complex phenomenon, and to enhance JHS nurses' competence in providing care for these students, sexual and gender diversity needs to be included in evidence-based nursing information sources, covered in nursing education, and the school needs to be secured as LGBTQ+ safe place.

I argue that wrong of plagiarism does not primarily stem from the plagiarist's illicit misappropriation of academic credit from the person she plagiarized. Instead, plagiarism is wrongful to the degree to which it runs counter to the purpose of academic work. Given that this is to increase knowledge and further understanding plagiarism will be wrongful to the extent that it impedes the achievement of these ends. This account of the wrong of plagiarism has two surprising (and related) implications. First, it follows from this account of the wrong of plagiarism that replication plagiarism might not be an academic wrong at all. (Replication plagiarism consists of the direct quotation or paraphrase of another's work without attribution. The replication plagiarist thus plagiarizes primary sources, purloining for her own benefit the ideas of their authors). Second, even if replication plagiarism is still held to be an academic wrong, it will be a lesser wrong than bypass plagiarism. (Bypass plagiarism occurs when one quotes from, or provides a paraphrase of, a primary source, but although one cites the primary source one did not identify the quotation or provide the initial paraphrase oneself. Instead, one took the quotation, or drew upon an existing paraphrase, from a secondary source--and one did so without citing the secondary source to credit it as the source of one's information about the primary source). Holding that bypass plagiarism is worse than replication plagiarizes reverses the usual assessment of the relative wrong of these two types of plagiarism.

Marijuana use among U.S. college students is the highest since the mid-1980s. Because knowledge about marijuana and confidence in the knowledge are related to changing marijuana laws and marijuana-related messages ubiquitous in college students' information environment, we examined their relationships with use. The Structural Equation Modeling method was used to analyze the relationships using survey responses from 249 college students in an adult-use marijuana legal state. Marijuana health knowledge was related to less use, and law knowledge was related to more use. Both relationships were mediated by perceived risk. Confidence in knowledge was related to more use directly as well as indirectly via lower peer disapproval and lower perceived risk. Among various marijuana message channels, peers were the most influential, contributing to lower health knowledge and higher confidence in knowledge.

Introduction: This research analyzes the importance of academic writing in Albania and suggests introducing it as a mandatory course in all fields of study. The study aims to identify students' perceptions of academic writing and the importance of clear structure and guidelines in academic writing templates. The research collected data through 253 online questionnaires from students of private and public HEIs (Higher Education Institutions) in Albania, revealing that students lacked adequate skills in primary writing forms and were unaware of the steps required to use resources. Methods: 253 Albanian university students participated in a study on academic writing abilities and methods. The study used a structured questionnaire with 23 closed-ended questions related to statements relevant to the concepts provided by the Literature Review on the issues of writing skills, methodology, and the required steps of academic writing. Results: The study found that over half of the students surveyed did not study academic writing, which was mainly offered as an elective course for the undergraduate level. Less than half of the students confirmed that their universities offered a template for them to guide themselves through the studying process. The research also found a connection between the lack of academic writing in the curricula and academic integrity. Discussion: The Ministry of Education and HEIs should provide theoretical and methodological guidelines for designing academic writing courses in Albanian. Academic writing programs in Albanian and English should be offered to faculty members and researchers. Academic Writing should be mandatory for every study program, collaborating with disciplinary professors and linguistics to improve the existing curricula and creating opportunities for students to express their critical thinking through writing skills. Limitations: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this research faced limitations in accessing the syllabi of some faculties and restricted student gatherings. Therefore, the questionnaire was delivered online, and the results presented in the paper refer to the respondents' self-regulation while answering online. Conclusions: The survey revealed that students from public and non-public higher education institutions lack basic writing skills, prefer internet guidance over professor's assistance, struggle with paraphrasing, summarizing, and referencing, and lack academic integrity. However, students showed a high interest in academic writing as a mandatory course in higher education institutions.

When deciding whether to trust someone's claims, how do children combine - over multiple interactions - information about that person's general behavioral tendencies (traits) with that person's ongoing (and changing) rate of providing accurate claims? Children aged 4-8 played 11 rounds of a find-the-sticker game. For each round, an informant looked into two cups and made a claim about which cup held a sticker. Children guessed the sticker's location and the sticker's actual location was revealed. Prior to the game, children received information that the informant was either honest or dishonest. In Study 1 (N = 201, 105 female, 96 male), the informant provided inaccurate information on the first five trials and then provided accurate information for the remaining trials (55% overall accuracy). In Study 2 (N = 144, 89 female, 55 male), the informant produced a less predictable pattern of (in)accuracy, but remained 55% accurate overall. The trait information children initially received about the informant's honesty strongly influenced their epistemic trust when they lacked additional information about the informant's reliability (the earliest trials). When children's first-hand experiences with the informant prevented them from making strong predictions about the informant's future behavior, only children approximately 7 years and older utilized trait information to guide their epistemic trust. These results demonstrate some similarities in children's causal reasoning about the physical world and their social reasoning. The results also demonstrate developmental patterns in how children weigh different types of social information at different junctures in social interaction.

The COVID-19 virus emerged in the city of Wuhan, China in December 2019, has affected the entire world in a short time, and was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization in March 2020 (WHO, 2020b). This large-scale outbreak has been on the agenda of Turkey. The main purpose of this research is to examine the opinions of gifted students about the coronavirus and the pandemic. The study was carried out with 70 gifted students studying in the 3rd and 4th grades of the Alanya Science and Art Center which is affiliated with the Alanya District National Education Directorate in Antalya, in the spring term of the 2021-2022 academic year, over a 2-week period. The phenomenological method was used for the study since the study aims to reveal the opinions of the students about the coronavirus and the pandemic documented in writing along with student pictures. Some parts of the book named "Benim Pandemi Hikayem (My Pandemic Story)" were used to obtain the study data. The children were asked to answer the questions in order to understand their views on the coronavirus pandemic and the process it brought and draw about coronavirus. The data obtained from the study were analyzed with descriptive and content analysis. According to the frequency distribution of the categories and codes of the theme "Resources for learning about the pandemic", students learned about the pandemic most from the news (f=47). According to the frequency distributions of the categories and codes of the theme "What I learned about COVID-19", students expressed the following the most: mask, distance, and hygiene rules (f=51). When the frequency distributions of the categories and codes of the theme "When you first learned about the pandemic" were examined, most of the students stated that they were with their families (f=48). When the frequency distributions of the categories and codes of the theme "Pandemic drawings" were examined, it was seen that the students mostly drew pictures including a mask (f=29). In conclusion, knowing how children perceive the process experienced is important for educators in terms of providing individual, social, and emotional support and taking necessary measures. During the COVID-19 pandemic, teachers, students, and parents have experienced fears and concerns. For this reason, psychological support programs can be prepared for children, teachers, and parents.

The "critical" element present in many critical information literacy (CIL) studies shows a commitment to the practical challenge of the power structures that shape current information regimes. In this article, we argue that it is necessary to analyse how such power structures, organised under a capitalist social order with neoliberal contours, benefit from disinformation, scientific denialism and class, race and gender oppression. In addition to discussing how philosophical notions of language and postmodern relativism appear in the present time, our main theoretical objective is to highlight some thoughts of Hegel, Marx and Bloch on the notions of dialectics, praxis and concrete utopia, aiming to contribute to strengthen the critical element that names and distinguishes CIL as a field of inquiry in library and information studies.

The agricultural industry lacks qualified workers, suggesting students may not participate in opportunities that effectively develop their employability skills. We used a phenomenological case study approach to investigate Texas A&M University College of Agriculture and Life Sciences students' career-readiness and factors influencing career-readiness. We conducted interviews with 19 juniors and seniors. Open coding procedures revealed five emergent themes--"Career Advice-Seeking Behavior," "Employability Skills Development," "Network Establishment," "Relevant Experiences," and "Personal Growth." Findings indicate that students do not take advantage of University resources to help them with career preparation. Findings also revealed a lack of employability skills development, especially relating to students' communication and science communication skills. Students identified high-impact experiences they believed improved their employability skills. We recommend strategies for educators to improve agriculture students' career-readiness and offer research recommendations to examine career-readiness factors that may help prepare students to meet 21st century agricultural workforce demands.

Many English language proficiency (ELP) tests used for university admissions and placement now include integrated writing tasks that require examinees to use external sources when writing. Integrated writing tasks improve test authenticity and impact, but they raise several validity questions, such as what academic language skills they engage and whether performance on these tasks varies with examinee ELP level. This study addresses these questions with reference to an integrated writing task from the Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) Test that involves reading, listening, and writing in academic contexts. Responses by 59 students to one of the CAEL integrated writing tasks are analyzed in terms of various grammatical, discourse, sociolinguistic, strategic, content, and source use aspects and compared across ELP levels (high and low) and score levels. The findings indicate that both ELP level and score level had significant effects on most writing features examined in the study, except for syntactic complexity. Additionally, except for syntactic complexity, all writing dimensions examined in the study were significantly associated with writing scores. The findings and their implications for the validity argument of source-based writing tasks are discussed.

According to a 2021 Pew Research report, over 80 percent of 18- to 29-year-olds use social media. Studies also show that higher education students use social media in both academic and everyday life. However, there is minimal research about how, or whether, librarians utilize social media in their library instruction as a source of information for students' academic work. We examined 162 responses to a survey sent to an uncounted number of librarians in higher education, asking them about their teaching practices regarding social media to enable us to answer the following research questions: (1) How are teaching librarians using social media as an information source in their instruction?; (2) What are the benefits teaching librarians perceive regarding the use of social media in instruction?; (3) What are the challenges teaching librarians perceive regarding the use of social media in instruction? The survey results showed that most librarians surveyed are not utilizing social media as an information source in their library instruction. Although our results cannot be generalized, our study sheds light on how librarians incorporate social media in information literacy (IL) instruction, the tension between scholarly literature and voices not considered authoritative, and librarians' perceptions of benefits and challenges to incorporating social media in library sessions.

Purpose: The effect of e-learning success relies on the learning management system and its effectiveness provided to the learners. As a result, higher education institutions (HEIs) are expanding using various e-learning platforms and focusing on system and information quality. This study adopts the ISS (information system success) model to assess students' perception of e-learning system success (e-LSS). Design/methodology/approach: A quantitative research approach was used to analyse 151 students' perceptions collected from HEIs in Oman. The survey instrument was built on prior research related to DeLone and McLean's ISS model, and expert opinion was involved for validation. The snowball sampling method was used to collect the data, and participants' anonymity and confidentiality were maintained as part of the ethical process. The reliability of data was tested using Cronbach's alpha analysis. A statistical tool like correlation was used to examine the relationship between the study variables (system quality, information quality, user satisfaction and e-LSS). Findings: This study's results revealed that students positively perceived system usage, and users' satisfaction with e-learning systems (e-LSs) was high. Moreover, the correlation results indicated that the system and information quality aspects of e-learning significantly influence e-LSS. Practical implications: The study results on students' perspective towards e-learning information systems can be advantageous to HEIs and various stakeholders like policymakers, and e-learning platforms. It may support and assist the HEIs and corporate firms in deciding on e-learning platforms for students and learners, respectively. Moreover, the consolidated findings will contribute to the existing literature on e-learning success factors from students' perspectives. Originality/value: This study examines the students' perception of e-LSS in Oman HEIs and advocates prospects for further in-depth study and analysis.

Purpose: To explore factors influencing compliance with COVID-19 recommended preventive behaviours focusing on types of information sources about COVID-19, learning about disinfectant use and constructs of the Health Belief Model among adolescents at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Design: Cross-sectional descriptive design. Setting: A survey was distributed electronically to organisations, parents and student groups in Southern California 10 months after the declaration of the COVID-19 pandemic. Sample: A total of 217 students aged between 12 and 19 years old. Measures: Questions were adapted from a previous nationwide online survey about COVID-19. Analysis: Descriptive and logistic regression analyses were used to analyse the data. Results: The most common type of information (communication) source was an interpersonal one (parents), and the least common type was an official (federal, school) source. Statistically significant better protective behaviours aligned with COVID-19 recommendations were seen in students who received more information from official sources; less information from social media or friends; believed in the accuracy and benefits of utilising the COVID-19 pandemic information and learned about the use of disinfectants and were confident in cleaning surfaces of devices and equipped. However, those who perceived themselves at risk of COVID-19 infection and had perceived high risks in general reported lower (but not statistically significant) compliance with protective behaviour. The level of knowledge about COVID-19 was not statistically associated with compliance with protective behaviour. Conclusion: Parents' role in guiding adolescents is critical. Evidence-based information about COVID-19 should be delivered through official sources to facilitate adolescents' understanding and active participation in public health efforts.

Objective: This study evaluated Tummy Time recommendations in patient education materials and informal sources found on the Internet. Methods: Patient education materials, available from health professionals online, and informal sources, found outside of healthcare, were evaluated for consistency with evidence-informed recommendations. Patient education materials were also evaluated for readability and visual presentation. Results: Twelve sets of patient education materials were included in the top 20 search results. Only one of them addressed all the evidence-informed recommendations accurately. Fifty informal sources were included in analysis, ranging from search rank #1 to #57. Nearly half of the informal sources were judged fully consistent with evidence-informed recommendations. Counter to best practice recommendations, two-thirds of the patient education materials were written above the reading level expected of a student with no more than an elementary school education. All used strategies to enhance clarity, although none met all standards for visual presentation. Conclusion: Although some good resources are available, healthcare providers should exercise caution when selecting or recommending patient education materials online, even when they are available from healthcare professionals. Parents turning to the Internet will find accurate information. However, to develop a comprehensive understanding, they may need to visit multiple sites. Practice Implications: Healthcare professionals are responsible for providing or directing their clients to reliable, comprehensive sources of information, and for being aware of the quality of information they may discover through their own searches. Healthcare websites are responsible for communicating clearly and comprehensively with their clients and the public. Some parent education materials require revision for readability, formatting and consistency with Tummy Time recommendations.

The aim of this research is to investigate the development of preschool education pre-service teachers' (PST) understanding and evaluation of a socio-scientific topic, namely food additives by using debate as a teaching technique. Qualitative research was designed in a case study model with purposeful sampling in which sixty PST attended Mother and Child Nutrition course. We used qualitative data instruments including pre- and post-reflective forms (RF), assignment papers and video recordings. Data were analyzed using open coding and cross coding. The results indicated that PST's opinions about food additives may change with the use of debate and scientific articles. The findings also showed that it can be possible to improve their understanding of scientific knowledge about food additives, sources of information, evaluation of sources of information with the help of well-designed debate applications. The evaluation of the components of evidence, sources of evidence, arguments, and expert judgment as well as inclusion of these components in teacher education programs are recommended for further research.

Immune literacy--the ability to hear, learn, read, write, explain, and discuss immunological content with varied audiences--has become critically important in recent years. Yet, with its complex terminology and discipline-specific concepts, educating individuals about the immune system and its role in health and disease may seem daunting. Here, we reflect on how to demystify the discipline and increase its accessibility for a broader audience. To address this, a working group of immunology educators from diverse institutions associated with the research coordination network, ImmunoReach, convened virtually. As a result of these discussions, we request a call to action for a system-level change and present a set of practical recommendations that novice and experienced educators from diverse institutions, professional societies, and policymakers may adopt to foster immune literacy in their classrooms and communities.

During the last two years, the COVID-19 pandemic had a secondary effect of increased media content loaded with mathematical, often probabilistic information (and misinformation). Our exploratory study investigates the probabilistic intuitions, misconceptions, biases, and fallacies in conditional probability reasoning of mathematics teacher candidates in the context of the pandemic. The pre-service mathematics teachers who participated in our study were given a questionnaire with five contextual conditional probability problems, all formulated similarly to media statements often encountered when discussing the COVID-19 pandemic. Our findings confirm the previous findings on biases and fallacies related to conditional probability problems with a social context. They were also indicative of several types of errors (both numerical and logical) as more common than expected. Our results also reveal that pre-service mathematics teachers apparently separate the content learned in the classroom from the application of the knowledge in critical examination of the information to which they are daily exposed by the media.

This study examined written/formal register based on happilyever-after women's fiction conventional blurbs. In particular, the 80 blurbs were equally divided into two types: the classic and mass-marketed. Biber et al. (2021) was used as the framework to extract features to respond to the two research questions: What were the top written/formal features among the classic and mass-marketed happily-ever-after women's novel blurbs? And, which blurb type displayed more resemblance to written/formal register? The functional framework comprised three main groups of features: The passives, adjectivals and adverbials. Results revealed that the first two showed a strong tendency towards written/formal register while the last seemed to show the opposite but was taken here to be in-between features, corresponding to fiction language. The top written/formal features based on the two types of blurbs were the passives (both the full and reduced forms) (26%), full relative clauses (23%), full adverbial clauses (20%) and attributives (13%). The blurb type that seemed inclined towards written/formal nature more was the classic, as substantiated by five salient features: the passives, attributives, -en adjectivals, -ing adverbials and -en adverbials. It is believed that discourse analysts and ESL/EFL teachers can pay more attention to these useful syntactic features, particularly the full and reduced forms, as ways to compress information in formal writing.

Climate change is an urgent global issue that requires concern and action among a climate literate citizenry. Early childhood climate change education (CCE) affords strong potential for developing this climate literate citizenry. Early childhood educators are critical for this endeavor, and their climate change perspectives, teaching practices, and resource needs must inform future curriculum and professional development. Thus, the purpose of this study is to better understand early childhood educators' perspectives on climate change instruction and use of CCE resources. An explanatory mixed-methods design was selected for this study. In the first phase, a quantitative survey was used to determine important types of CCE resources for early childhood. In the second phase, selected participants were interviewed to explain and elaborate on their quantitative results. In terms of findings, early childhood teachers particularly valued nature-based material resources, human resources that could improve their own climate change response knowledge, and social resources that included trustworthy sources of climate change information. Interviewed teachers elaborated on qualities that make CCE resources particularly useful: age-appropriateness, curriculum alignment, ease of use, engagement, place-based, and trustworthiness. In addition, we present a placebased example of a kindergarten climate change teacher who exemplifies the use and valuation of these CCE resources. Implications for curriculum development and teacher professional learning are provided.

The purpose of this paper is to present a theoretical examination on the importance of writing in history teaching in schools to age groups 7-16 year old. It presents a discussion and an overview of best and meaningful practice in history teaching when using written historical sources as evidence for analyses in the classroom. It also looks at how educators can support pupils' own writing in history lessons in effective ways. The paper attempts to do this by reporting on various pedagogical research work conducted specifically on writing in history and its many facets when it comes to history learning in schools. The author offers various pedagogical recommendations based on her own as well as others' research work on the written word in history teaching. The paper looks at written sources from four different aspects. It discusses written sources as primary historical sources in themselves and how they can be made more palpable, that is more tangible and easier to use for pupils. It then looks at secondary written sources, that is, historians' interpretation of history and how these can be presented to pupils, followed by how primary written sources can also produce opportunity to practice the skill of detecting bias. Lastly pupils' own writing is discussed and how their writing in history can be made better.

Due to the reflections of the changes and developments in science and technology in the field of education, students need educational opportunities that can meet their changing learning needs. Based on this need, the main purpose of this study is to evaluate the digital storytelling process in history teaching and the contribution of this method to history teaching through the views of students. To achieve this goal, a history lesson about "Kara Fatma", one of the heroines of the National Struggle in the 12th-grade Turkish Republic History of Revolution and Kemalism course, was designed using the digital storytelling method. A seven-week-long study was planned. The qualitative research method was used in the study. The study group consisted of 15 volunteer 12th-grade students. A semi-structured interview form was used to determine the evaluations of the students about the digital storytelling process, and a checklist was employed to evaluate students' digital stories. The study data were analyzed with content analysis. As a result, it was found that students only used internet sources during the evidence search process, their knowledge of history was enriched with digital storytelling, and that they had difficulty eliciting material for their stories from a huge stack of information. It was concluded that this application contributed to making history lessons fun and could contribute to the presentation of brief and concise, but not long and boring, information and the use of critical thinking skills in lessons. Thus, it has been understood that digital storytelling may contribute to the development of historical literacy in students.
