The visualization of education and the digital presentation of the studied material are already an inseparable part of modern education. In the new innovative world, young people have online access to vast amounts of information, which in most cases is superficial, unscientific, highly visual and organized in small spots of text. Therefore, a better knowledge of the factors that influence the perception of information is needed – good structure, engaging content, quality visualization. These factors shape how people process and remember presented knowledge. The present scientific development describes a study conducted using an eye tracking system, which visualizes the orientation of attention with different structuredness of the presented learning material. Research indicates the most appropriate structuring of text::images elements. The analysis made can serve as a guide for tutors when preparing learning resources; indicate how the informative material should be organized, enriched with appropriate pictures or infographics. DIGITAL literacy ,VISUAL literacy ,COGNITIVE styles ,CRITICAL thinking ,UNIVERSAL language - Abstract
This article embarks on an exploration of the transformative influence of infographics within the educational landscape, tracing their impact from the Gen-Alpha era onwards. Infographics emerge as dynamic visual tools, transcending generational boundaries and establishing a universal language of comprehension. From catering to the digital fluency of Gen-Alpha to resonating with earlier and subsequent generations, infographics serve as enduring conduits, adapting to diverse learning styles and cultivating a culture of visual literacy. This article delves into a unique dimension, proposing infographics as suitable aids for teaching and learning through the innovative concept of 'pop-up edutainment exhibitions'. These exhibitions represent dynamic, interactive showcases that bring educational content to life, creating an engaging and immersive experience for learners. From static visuals to dynamic formats like animated and interactive infographics, this evolution revolutionizes the pedagogical experience, making education a visually stimulating journey. Within the collaborative realm, infographics evolve into platforms fostering multigenerational wisdom, where minds converge, co-create, and contribute to a collective reservoir of knowledge. Through a critical lens, this article scrutinizes how infographics, presented as pop-up edutainment exhibitions, amplify critical thinking, digital literacy, and creative expression across generational spectra, exemplifying their instrumental role in crafting an inclusive and engaging learning environment. Purpose – Many students are found facing difficulties in learning English due to plenty of reasons: known and unknown ones. In order to overcome such an issue, the instructors have to explore for effective techniques of teaching English to motivate learners by any means. Technology in general and informatics in particular can be thought of as innovative tool of pedagogy in the current teaching-learning environment. The present proposal of research aims at creating innovative approaches, which attract learners' interest and catch their attention for better outputs. Design/methodology/approach – Following subsections have been discussed keeping the significance in view. Setting of the study: The present study was conducted at King Abdulaziz University, Jeddah-Saudi Arabia, which is one of the Saudi Arabian universities; however, it has opened up new avenues for the pedagogues, teachers of English and researchers to conduct studies in various allied fields. In order to have a representative sample of students' population, the participants were chosen from the “preparatory year”. Material and tools: This study used a questionnaire (Appendix) and a test to evaluate performances of the two groups: controlled and experimental. In order to further strengthen the findings, semi structured interview was conducted for a few select students from the student-sample. Since the questionnaire was adapted, the statistical validity and reliability was not considered to be essential; however, content/face validity was ensured by consulting 10 experts in the field of education/methods of teaching. Findings – Based on the analysis of data gathered from the test performances of the two groups of students, it was found that there existed a significant difference in the test scores. The questionnaire responses also proved that infographics can be proved to be an interesting tool of education in general and English language teaching in particular. However, it has been noticed from the gathered data that not many teachers are comfortable using multimedia or infographics for different reasons. The results of the present study are in line with the study by Rezaei and Sayadian (2015) that support the idea of infographics that would help English teachers to develop understanding and insights to design among the learners. They further contend that the infographic instruction offers choices for the utilization of collaborative activities. In addition, the infographics enhance students' performance as a whole as also supported by Alrwele (2017). Research limitations/implications – The study was conducted on a small sample which might affect the generalization of the outcomes. It was carried out with special reference to teaching of vocabulary and reading. Practical implications – There can be many recommendations for different stakeholders. For teachers, it is recommended that they should know about the significance of infographs for catching the attention of students. They should know how to design interesting and colorful infographs. The administration/management should facilitate the teachers with the required software or platform to create infographics and integrate in an English language class. In addition, teachers should attend workshops and training courses organized for topics related to the infographs. Originality/value – The author checked the study for plagiarism (excluding references) and found it to be 93% plagiarism free.

Infographics are used to display information in a visual form with a graphic component, and have become widespread due to the convergence of the media space, which has transformed the processes of collecting, processing, broadcasting, and, most importantly, presenting information. The purpose of the article is to consider infographics as a media format for self-presentation of an organisation, as a tool for managing its image. The conducted analysis allows us to show a classification of the infographics according to the following criteria: display method, data type, purpose, presentation format, presence of interactivity, and time perspective. The functionality of the infographics is quite wide: these are functions, such as cognitive, analytical, factual, instructive, argumentative, ascertaining, attractive, expressive, aesthetic, identification, decorative, etc. However, some functions are still not sufficiently disclosed. The article examines the function of presenting the infographics in the media space and, based on a rapid survey, shows its importance in terms of informing the audience about the content of the organisation’s activities, revealing the viral potential of the infographics and its impact on the positive perception of the audience. This all points to the possibility of using the infographics as a media format for self-presentation of an organisation in various target communities, as an effective tool for managing image perception.

Abstract The presence of diagrams or infographics in English textbooks is believed to support Indonesia’s curriculum goal of communication using multimodal resources. However, the functions of infographics in language learning have not been well understood. This study examines how infographics accompanied by verbal texts can convey visual metalanguage. The images from an English textbook designed for X grades were used as the basis for this study. Drawing on the theories of Visual Design Grammar (Kress & Leeuwen, 2006) and Systemic Functional Linguistics (Halliday & Matthiessen, 2004, 2013), this study explores the images and instructions in infographics. The systemic functional approach to multimodal discourse analysis (SF-MDA) was employed. The results of this study reveal the functions of the images in the textbook and how metalanguage competencies can support the teaching of multimodal texts in a representative and compositional manner. The study also provides several pedagogical implications for teachers in teaching diagrammatic images. Typical data available to engineering educators about the state of degrees awarded is disseminated via various groups. The most salient limitations to each of these sources are a lack of disaggregating data by multiple personal identities and an annualized reporting schedule hindering interpretations over time. This analysis ascertains how female degrees earned in engineering changed for bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degree levels from 2005 to 2021. We sought to understand trends by disaggregating ASEE records by gender, race, and engineering discipline. Data gathered from EDMS were cleaned, analyzed, and visualized, following principles for data sense making and human factors. Results highlight women gravitating towards Biological, Environmental, and Computational engineering disciplines. The total number of all degrees awarded is increasing for all genders in all disciplines, but these trends are not evenly distributed across disciplines. While it is true that the overall proportion of women in engineering wavered near 20%, this statistic does not tell the whole story of what has been occurring in engineering. By disaggregating infographics, we tracked percentage growth in certain fields as well as overall increases in number of degrees awarded at all levels of higher education. Future research is needed to determine causes for women's choices in engineering. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Meals on Wheels (MoWs) could help adults with care and support needs continue living independently. However, many people are not aware that the service still exists in England, or that it could provide benefits beyond nutrition. Objective: Working with an existing advisory group of six people with lived experience of MoWs (an adult who uses MoWs and people who have referred a family member to MoWs), this work aimed to co‐produce knowledge translation resources (two infographics and a film) to raise awareness of MoWs and their benefits. Methods: Four participatory online workshops were held in May–July 2023, to establish perceived high‐priority themes from recent qualitative research that should be included in the resources, and preferences about message content, language, design, and how the resources should be disseminated. Findings: The most important perceived MoWs benefits that the group agreed should be included in the resources were: the importance of a nutritious meal that requires no preparation; the service's reliability/consistency; the importance of interactions in reducing social isolation, and; the ease to commence the service. The group highlighted the need for language to be nontechnical and invitational, and for images to relate to respective messages, and be inclusive of anyone who could benefit from MoWs. Several routes for dissemination were proposed, highlighting the need to disseminate to the NHS, social care organisations and community groups. Conclusion: These co‐produced resources could enhance adult social care delivery in England, as raising awareness of MoWs and their benefits could increase referral rates, so that more adults with care and support needs can benefit from the service. Patient or Public Contribution: An advisory group of people with lived experience of MoWs (users of the service and family referrers) participated in the workshops, extensively discussed the findings of earlier research, co‐produced the knowledge translation resources, and advised on the implications and future dissemination steps. The group also provided informal feedback on a draft of this manuscript. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study explores the integration of key Transformative Learning Theory (TLT) principles into design education to foster Visual Literacy (VL) and promote awareness of environmental issues among undergraduate students. Through thematic analysis of 22 illustrated infographics, ideation sketches and supporting textual data created by art and design students, the study examines patterns and insights related to perspective transformation, critical reflection, and visual writing skills. Findings reveal pedagogical efficacy when prompting students to explore counter-narratives to the prevailing negative zeitgeist, resulting in perspective transformation and critical reflection of the design process. In turn, this perspective shift and critical reflection fostered the development of students' abilities to convey complex ideas visually, thus broadening their visual vocabulary to advocate for positive change. Three main categories were considered: Critical Reflection, Perspective Transformation, and Visual Writing Skills, and six sub-categories were identified: Implicit Reflection, Paradigm Shift, Alternative Narratives, Rhetorical Concepts, Intentional Visual-Verbal Communication, and Emotional Visual Language. Implications for scholars include insights into curriculum development and the promotion of ethical and sustainable design practices, while pragmatic applications for faculty offer actionable recommendations for enhancing teaching practices. The study underscores the importance of ethical considerations, diverse perspectives, and real-world applications in nurturing students' growth as innovative, ethical and sustainable designers. The purpose of this paper is to examine how infographics are used in the dynamics of designing or creating in the teaching and learning process. Utilising a bibliometric approach and content analysis, we examined a sample of 760 documents from the Web of Science and Scopus databases with no lower time limit until November 2023. The analyses aimed to identify trends, including main topics, authors, sources, most cited articles, institutional affiliations, and countries in the literature. This bibliometric approach allows for the observation of trends in the educational application of promoting visual literacy through students' design or creation of infographics in formal and informal learning settings. Initial publications emerged in 2007, gaining momentum from 2014 to the present. The most prolific fields were medical science, chemistry, and computer science. This investigation shows that educational institutions could employ infographics beyond present boundaries to prepare students—particularly Generation Alpha, digital natives—for a data-driven society. Institutions should expand their use of infographics to improve visual literacy and address the changing educational requirements of students in a dynamic learning environment. Overall, this paper provides insights into the readiness of educators and institutions to engage Generation Alpha, the digital natives, through visual literacy and infographics. The accelerating pace of technological trends has numerous reflections in education. Accordingly, various tools have been utilized to reap their benefits in English classes. Among others, infographics, which combine text with visually stimulating images, stand out thanks to their advantages, such as being concise and academically rewarding. Although their effects have been studied worldwide, a gap in the literature has been observed in measuring infographics’ effects on developing students’ writing and certain 21st-century skills simultaneously in Iraq. Therefore, the main purpose of this study was to gauge the role of infographics in improving university students’ writing competence and 21st-century skills. Having chosen 30 freshman students through convenience sampling from a private university in Erbil, Iraq, in the spring semester of the 2023-2024 academic year, they underwent the treatment spanning 10 weeks about writing essays. Data collection encompassed writing exams, questionnaires, and interviews in this mixed methods research design study. Data were analyzed using either SPSS 29 or NVivo. Control group students received writing instruction based on the common curriculum, whereas experimental group students’ lessons were expanded with infographics. The findings unleashed that infographic-enriched writing education yielded better results in terms of writing exams with a .002 p-value. Complementary findings also showed that certain 21st-century skills, such as critical thinking and taking initiative, were promoted. On the other hand, the achievement of the control group students was far from noticeable. The findings of this study may have various implications for interested parties who plan to integrate infographics into English classes harmoniously.

Printed leaflets continue to be an important information source in health contexts. Visuals can increase engagement with a leaflet, facilitate understanding, and minimise cognitive load. In this study, two information leaflets, one with and one without infographics, were investigated. The leaflets aimed to inform pregnant people about vaccination against influenza and pertussis. Through a questionnaire, the effects of infographics on the opinion on the leaflet, health beliefs, and vaccination intent were investigated. One hundred and seventy-seven Dutch-speaking pregnant people took part in the study. The visually enhanced leaflet was shown to be better appreciated, reflected by better ratings and higher levels of engagement compared to the textual version. The visually enhanced leaflet also significantly increased vaccination intent for pertussis, but not for influenza. The findings of this study provide insights into how visuals can contribute to effective health communication.

Infographics have been recognised as effective visual tools for concise and accessible communication of data and information in various higher education disciplines, particularly in medical education. However, there is a lack of research on their impact on professional skills, difficulty levels, motivation, and overall satisfaction in health science students. Thus, the present study aimed to analyse the knowledge and usage of graphical resources among health science students and evaluate their competencies, the level of challenge they encountered, and their motivation and satisfaction after completing an infographic creation activity. The InfoHealth educational innovation project, conducted by five teachers from the Faculty of Medicine, served as the context for this study, with 143 students voluntarily participating. The intervention involved students working in groups of 2–3 and selecting their own topics for the infographics while receiving instruction, online guidance, and feedback from teachers. A questionnaire was administered to assess students’ perception of skill development and satisfaction with the activity. The findings revealed that schemes were the most recognized and used graphical summaries, compared to synoptic tables and Venn diagrams. The activity led to an increase in professional skills acquisition, motivation, and satisfaction, positively impacting students’ interest in evidence-based practice and reinforcing their knowledge. This study highlights the potential of infographics as a pedagogical tool for competency development and student engagement in health science education, suggesting the need for further research comparing infographics with traditional study methods and involving multidisciplinary teams to promote essential skills for future clinical practice.

Purpose: The article aims to determine whether the images presented in the non-financial reports of food companies are used to legitimize their operations.Methodology/approach: A literature analysis and quantitative and qualitative content analysis were used. Findings: The results indicate that the photos presented in the non-financial reports of food companies constitute an element of their legitimization strategy, serving to build the image of a socially responsible organization. This is evidenced by the often-recurring idealized images that present the happiness and contentment of employees and their families, as well as local communities, or depicting nature unspoiled by economic activity. The use of such practices aims to elicit a preconceived impression of the company’s commitment to sustainability among stakeholders. Research limitations/implications: As this is a pilot study and a prelude to further research on information visualization in non-financial reports, the study was limited to eight companies operating in the food industry, one form of information visualization, and one reporting period. Therefore, there is a need for further research to determine whether companies in other industries and regions use photos and other forms of in-formation visualization to gain legitimacy for their operations. Practical implications: The study highlights the significance of the photos included in non-financial reports in establishing the image of companies committed to sustainability. It expands knowledge on the importance of information visualization in a company’s communication with its stakeholders. Originality/value: The article addresses a very topical but insufficiently researched issue in Poland concerning the use of photography for impression management in non-financial reporting. This is the first paper to present an analysis of photographs from the perspective of a company’s message creation for stakeholders to legitimize its activities.

With the highly interactive and visually appealing forms of infographics in online news media, creating visually compelling designs and layouts using infographics becomes important for print media, from the traditional storytelling format of texts and photos to the use of infographics. Incorporating infographics appeals to audiences. Studies show that infographics appeal to readers and aid their comprehension, recall, and understanding complex news events. Infographics are a form of visual communication. Unlike still photos, layers of design elements, such as illustrations, charts, maps, and text, provide powerful news imagery that stimulates sensory experiences. Using content analysis, this exploratory research examined infographics in two major UAE daily newspapers: Gulf News (English) and Al Bayan (Arabic) in seeking how these publications utilised infographics in terms of their prevalent themes, contribution to the storytelling and narrative structure of editorial content, as well as their frequency, complexity and placement. The findings of the study show that both publications used infographics created in-house and sourced from news services to enhance storytelling. However, the form and use of infographics varied in terms of complexity and frequency in both publications.

- Abstract
Infographics are visual storytelling techniques used to communicate complex information. However, infographics can be misleading if they are not created ethically. When universities teach how to create infographics, they often do so without emphasizing the ethical issues underlying infographics. To address this gap, we designed a study to educate statistics and data science students about the ethics of infographics by using Rest model's three stages: awareness, orientation, and intention. Students' awareness of the ethical issues underlying infographics was captured before and after sensitizing them to five ethical principles derived from the AI4People's framework applied to a data science context. The students were then exposed to scenarios with ethical dilemmas. Their identification of the ethical principles in these scenarios was measured. The results showed a significant increase in students' awareness of the ethical issues underpinning the interpretation of infographics, suggesting that ethical training of current users and future designers would be beneficial. In digital culture, visualizations are a prevalent and ubiquitous form of communication. A veteran journalistic tool, and an increasingly popular one in digital politics, visualizations offer informative value, attract readership, and increase engagement. Visualizations' multimodality enables them to convey rhetoric through informative, narrative and visual strategies, making them particularly well-suited for future-oriented discourse. Despite the rise of visualization-focused scholarly work over the past decade, several analytical lacunas remain, due to visualizations' multimodal nature and their rich array of actors, contexts and usages in the digital world. Specifically, no scholarly approach examines forward-looking visualizations comprehensively, addressing the ways in which their rhetorical layers coalesce to broker knowledge in multimodal predictive discourse. To fill this gap, our paper proposes a holistic framework for their analysis, addressing knowledge-brokering functions, predictive components, and rhetorical strategies. Thus, we ask, 'How are predictive visualizations rhetorically constructed to mediate the future?' and answer through conceptualization complemented by qualitative analysis of predictive pandemic visualizations from journalistic and social media. We begin by creating a theoretically informed framework, based on existing perspectives from data-journalism studies, projection studies, and visualization scholarship, which we then refine through analytical workshops and empirical application. Our final analytical framework encapsulates each visualization's rhetorical strategies, its knowledge-brokering functions, predictive structure, and their interrelations, highlighting the division of rhetorical and predictive labor across each visualization's components. We conclude with an analytical epilogue in which we demonstrate the usefulness of this framework in holistically analyzing predictive multimodal rhetoric by revisiting the elusive concept of rhetorical complexity in predictive visualizations. Infographics have the capability to organize and display information in a way that is easy for viewers to retrieve and make observations. While infographics have been successful in various fields, their potential benefits in composition writing have not been explored. The primary objective of this study is to investigate the perspectives of Iraqi EFL students who used infographics as an educational technology tool in composition writing, and to identify how gender influences students' performance when using infographics in EFL writing classes. The significance of this study lies in its integration of infographics as an educational technology tool for teaching writing, aligning with the current trend of technology integration in education and meeting the demands of the 21st century. A pre-tests, post-tests, and questionnaires have been used to collect data. The questionnaire consisted of 28 close-ended items structured on a Likert rating scale, with responses ranging from Strongly Agree to Strongly Disagree. The responses were analyzed using Google Sheets and SPSS software for quantitative analysis. The conclusions indicate that a significant proportion of students consider using infographics to promote cooperative learning and teamwork. Furthermore, these results showed significant gender differences, with female students using infographics more frequently than male students. This demonstrates the substantial interest among women in utilizing technology in learning, highlighting the potential for investment in English language skills development and educational technology. Finally, it is recommended to incorporate infographics into teaching practices across disciplines to enhance students' learning experiences and foster essential skills required in the 21st century. Abstract Typical data available to engineering educators about the state of degrees awarded is disseminated via various groups.

Preserving indigenous languages, notably the Yoruba language, is imperative for both cultural heritage conservation and academic advancement, particularly within linguistic studies. As one of Nigeria's top three spoken languages, the Yoruba language faces a threat to its counting and numbering systems due to English language influence, prompting a critical need for empirical investigation. To address this research gap, our quantitative study experimentally explores the impact of infographics on language instruction among seventy-one junior secondary students. Results reveal substantial gaps in students' prior exposure to infographics. Also, positive attitudes and increased engagement with infographics significantly improve comprehension of the Yoruba counting and numbering system, with no significant difference in learning outcomes based on gender. These findings underscore the potential of infographics in preserving the Yoruba language, advocating for its integration into indigenous language studies to enhance language preservation efforts. This study emphasizes the instrumental role of infographics in safeguarding cultural and linguistic heritage, advocating for their incorporation into educational strategies for indigenous languages.

Exposure to the palm industry begins in the early stages of secondary school, highlighted through the agricultural sector topic in the geography subject syllabus. However, the information provided about the palm industry is insufficient to give young learners adequate exposure. Consequently, Generation Z lacks knowledge and remains unaware that the palm industry significantly contributes to the national economy. This paper aims to explain the process of developing an infographic website to expose the palm industry to young learners. The topics are traditionally presented using textbooks, but it is essential to incorporate information delivery methods in line with technological developments and interactive aspects to cater to today's Generation Z. An infographic website has been developed to introduce the palm industry to the younger generation, serving as a platform for information delivery and exposure. The website development process follows the Agile model, encompassing planning, analysis, design and development, testing, and deployment phases. Based on end-user testing involving 81 high school students who completed questionnaires, the three usability test criteria yielded an average score of 4.82 for web usability, 4.72 for information quality, and 4.82 for interface quality. The results of the students' feedback were positive, indicating that the infographic offered more detailed information, and the use of animation and posters provided a clearer depiction of palm industry-related information. In conclusion, an infographic website introducing the palm industry to the younger generation proves to be a suitable alternative for their initial exposure, garnering positive responses from this target group.

The case is valid for English language education in which language teachers teach digital natives with a variety of developing technological tools, software, and aids. Visual aids are also transforming with the developing technology and infographics are one of the technological tools which have been developed by them in recent years. Grammar teaching with traditional teaching materials does not appeal to language learners anymore and it requires innovation as well. For this purpose, current research aims to investigate infographics’ effectiveness and utilization to teach grammar topics. The research was designed as experimental research. Pre-test, treatment, and post-test were administered to the experimental group while the control group traditionally received instruction. At the end of the post-test administration, an interview with five open-ended questions was administered to collect qualitative data. Results of the study show that infographics are effective technological tools to develop language learners’ grammatical knowledge. Moreover. Students have positive perceptions of using these technological visual aids to teach grammar topics.
