Background: Aceh province is one of the Indonesian provinces with the highest prevalence of stunting. Many factors contribute to this situation, including maternal knowledge. Although many studies have been conducted in Indonesia, literature exploring the correlation between stunting, mothers’ knowledge of stunting, and nutritional care in the Aceh province is limited. Objectives: This study aimed to examine the correlation between mothers’ knowledge of stunting, nutritional care, and the prevalence of stunting. Methods: This study utilized a quantitative paradigm and a cross-sectional design. The participants were 90 mothers selected by purposive sampling technique at Neuheun village, a village with the highest stunting prevalence in Aceh Besar Regency. The data was collected using a questionnaire measuring the mothers’ knowledge of stunting and nutrition care. In addition, secondary data was collected based on the anthropometric measurements of the children from the local community health center. Results: The findings suggest a significant correlation between maternal knowledge and stunting prevalence (p-value=0.003), as well as a significant correlation between nutrition care knowledge and stunting prevalence (p-value<0.001). Conclusions: This study concludes a significant correlation between mothers’ knowledge, nutritional care, and the prevalence of stunting in children at Neuheun Village, Aceh Besar Regency. Such findings underscore the imperative for concerted efforts among stakeholders to enhance maternal understanding of stunting and promote optimal nutritional care practices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Indian Ocean tsunami of December 26, 2004, left an impact on Aceh, Indonesia, prompting the establishment of tsunami memorials to preserve collective memories. This study examines how individuals and communities interact with tsunami memorials in Banda Aceh and Aceh Besar. It seeks to understand the dynamic intersection between individual, community, and tsunami memorials using collective memory theory. Findings reveal that memorials serve as spaces of recollection, fostering connections with lost loved ones and reinforcing disaster resilience. However, memory erosion occurs over time due to generational shifts and social dynamic changes. Collective memory theory elucidates memorials' broader societal roles, promoting disaster education and empathy. Beyond commemorations, memorials become cultural symbols shaping memories, meanings, identities, and narratives. This research highlights the importance of nuanced memorialization strategies to sustain engagement, foster disaster risk reduction strategies, and honor collective memory.

Coronavirus disease 19 is currently a global health threat. Viral spread prevention is essential as a feasible intervention strategy. The aim of this study was to determine the level of community knowledge, attitude, and perception towards Covid-19 in Aceh province. An electronic questionnaire was shared with 1,058 participants in the Covid-19 seminars organized by IMANI-PROKAMI Aceh Chapter (Islamic Medical Association and Network of Indonesia - Perhimpunan Profesi Kesehatan Muslim Indonesia), which were held between August 30th to Sept 20th, 2020. The questionnaire collected demographic data as well as data related to knowledge, perception, and attitude towards Covid-19 prevention. There were 1,058 survey participants, 841 (79.5%) of them were women, 366 (34.6%) were between 26 and 35 of age, 705 (66.6%) had a college degree and 540 (51.0%) were government employees. Most of participants had good knowledge and attitude about Covid-19 and its prevention. However, 44.1% of participants believed that the virus was created in research laboratories, as a result of conspiration (35.4%), and related to political issues (20%). They doubted the accuracy of Covid-19 diagnostic test (52.5%) and effectiveness of vaccines (28.2%). The results show multiple cases of misinformation around Covid19. Therefore, stakeholders need to counteract the community misperception towards disease by a transparent and strategic collaboration between society, government, and media, to increase positive perception, attitude, and practice of the community toward Covid19’s prevention.

Medical doctors conduct many health care and promotion activities after a disaster. However, there are limited studies on how doctors engage disaster-affected community members during the activities. This paper aims to examine medical doctors’ experiences in engaging their community during the rehabilitation period after a big disaster. The study is based on a more extensive ethnographic study at disaster-affected health centers and communities in Aceh. The researcher conducted interviews with eleven community doctors and 45 hours of participant observations involving three doctors. Findings show different levels of community engagement in the doctor participants’ experiences. Most of them only ‘informed’ rather than ‘engaged’ the disaster-affected patient and community. This paper calls for the enactment of community engagement in healthcare practices and education.

Disaster resilience is vital to everyone, including people with disabilities. However, teaching people with disabilities requires special techniques, and there is scant literature in the area. This case study designs and implements disaster preparedness training at a school for children with intellectual disabilities in Padang, Indonesia, an area prone to earthquakes and tsunamis. The training utilizes a blended learning approach called ‘Monster VIPs’ that combines various learning methods such as storytelling, posters, videos, puzzles, and disaster simulations to facilitate students to understand disasters responses. The training involves university teachers and disaster preparedness volunteers (Taruna Siaga Bencana/TAGANA) of the city’s social services.
