Image processing and, more generally, array processing play an essential role in modern life: from applying filters to the images that we upload to social media to running object detection algorithms on self-driving cars. Optimizing these algorithms can be complex and often results in non-portable code. The Halide language provides a simple way to write image and array processing algorithms by separating the algorithm definition (what needs to be executed) from its execution schedule (how it is executed), delivering state-of-the-art performance that exceeds hand-tuned parallel and vectorized code. Due to the inherent parallel nature of these algorithms, FPGAs present an attractive acceleration platform. While previous work has added an RTL code generator to Halide, and utilized other heterogeneous computing languages as an intermediate step, these projects are no longer maintained. MLIR is an attractive solution, allowing the generation of code that can target multiple devices, such as parallelized and vectorized CPU code, OpenMP, and CUDA. CIRCT builds on top of MLIR to convert generic MLIR code to register transfer level (RTL) languages by using Calyx, a new intermediate language (IL) for compiling high-level programs into hardware designs. This thesis presents a novel flow that implements an MLIR code generator for Halide that generates RTL code, adding the necessary wrappers to execute that code on Xilinx FPGA devices. Additionally, it implements a Halide runtime using the Xilinx Runtime (XRT), enabling seamless execution of the generated Halide RTL kernels. While this thesis provides initial support for running Halide kernels and not all features and optimizations are supported, it also details the future work needed to improve the performance of the generated RTL kernels. The proposed flow serves as a foundation for further research and development in the field of hardware acceleration for image and array processing applications using Halide.

Facial attribute transformation, the ability to modify specific facial attributes in images and videos, has gained significant attention in computer vision and image processing. We explored in depth the state-of-the-art techniques based on multiple individual and sequential Latent Transformers to modify the latent representation of the image. In this work, we introduce a novel approach that utilizes a unified architecture capable of learning multiple facial attributes simultaneously in a single Transformer model. By training a single model for multiple attributes, we aim to enhance efficiency, particularly in terms of speed, while maintaining competitive overall quality and outperforming some of the metrics. The disentanglement of attributes and preservation of identity are essential goals. Our results demonstrate the successful learning of 20 attributes with a unified Latent Transformer, showcasing significant improvements in speed, identity preservation, realism, and close-to-original overall quality. Through subjective study, our model demonstrates more appealing and preferred results compared to the baseline. As a summary, this work contributes to the field of facial attribute transformation by providing a more elegant and scalable solution, opening avenues for further advancements in disentangled face editing in images and videos.

The objective is to contribute to the development of innovative technologies for the detection and monitoring of forest vegetation, which may have important implications for the management and conservation of natural resources, prevention of forest fires, and improve the installation of telecommunications towers. The project involves investigating the existing literature on machine learning algorithms for object detection, selecting relevant algorithms for tree detection, evaluating their effectiveness using 3D satellite data, identifying their limitations and challenges, and providing a detailed comparison of their performance. Simulation is essential in robotics to evaluate models and techniques in a controlled setting before conducting experiments on tangible agents. However, developing simulation environments can be a challenging and time-consuming task. To address this issue, a proposed solution involves building a functional pipeline that generates 3D realistic terrains using GANs. The proposed model uses a DCGAN to generate heightmaps, which is trained on a custom dataset consisting of real heightmaps. Furthermore, an ESRGAN is used to improve the resolution and quality of the resulting heightmaps. To generate a texture according to the topography of the heightmap, chroma keying is used with previously selected textures. The heightmap and texture are then rendered and integrated, resulting in a realistic 3D surface. Nowadays there are lots of emerging use cases and fields to artificial intelligence/machine learning technologies. One of several relevant fields is that of image recognition model training, which itself has several potential applications already in development. This project studies this field through a specific case study: a machine learning model built to recognise and differentiate between chess piece images. For models to accurately discern what they are being presented with it is pivotal to meticulously assemble and refine the data they receive. In this project, based on a previously existing dataset of chess board images, we delve with the acquisition of curated chessboard images, each representing a spectrum of game states and scenarios. This is done in two ways: firstly, by capturing images from physical chess boards during in-person tournaments, and secondly by recreating digital versions of real professional chess games in a physical artificial environment in order to enrich our dataset substantially. This foundational step furnishes the bedrock components of our data collection pipeline, which is the second part of the project. Once the previous step has been completed we proceed by constructing a preprocessing pipeline tailor-fitted for preparing data for model training, automatizing the meticulous labeling of raw data and curating data consistently. In summary, this thesis is wholly devoted to the betterment and refinement of a machine learning dataset for chess board image recognition, enhancing data collection and automatizing data preprocessing workflows. En los centros comerciales, hoy en día se ha visto la eficiencia en los sistemas de gestión que ofrecen información a través de sensores y cámaras de seguridad, lo que implica la posibilidad de estudiar los diferentes indicadores asociados con las actividades realizadas por los clientes, para entender mejor los movimientos dentro del centro comercial. Con base en ello, se planteó como objetivo realizar un estudio que permita la mejora del layout y tránsito de persones en comercios y centros comerciales. Lo que permitió la realización de un estudio estilo propuesta, y así se consideró que la planificación de un modelo de negocios inmerso en la creación de un sistema de dispositivos que permitan la monitorización de la información seg-mentada sobre patrones de movimiento y compra en centros comerciales y pequeños comercios. Imperceptibly, our skin undergoes slight color changes as our hearts beat, and our heads subtly move with each breath. While these alterations may escape our eyes, they are captured by cameras. We can magnify the variation in those small signals to extract important information such as heartbeat rate, which in turn can be used in many real-life applications such as polygraph tests. The polygraph, or lie detector test, is a tool that measures physiological changes in an individual to detect deception. This thesis aimed to explore the feasibility of using video information to extract heartbeat rates, replacing the traditional sensors that are commonly used to extract this information. Through a series of experiments involving videos of people standing still, and a video of a real-life suspect that was lying, it was consistently possible to enhance the color changes that occur in a person's skin when their heartbeats. Though it was not possible to develop a fully-functioning lie detector test, this thesis proves that the motion and color magnification technique is reliable even when applied to videos of individuals engaged in speech and movement. It also proved that it is an interesting solution that has the potential of revolutionizing how interviews and interrogations are conducted.

A main challenge in biology is to understand the development of the human body, namely how cell and tissue shape transitions occur. Our organism is riddled with curved cell layers that withstand stress and react to it depending on their function, and this is where physics plays an important role, trying to unveil the forces and mechanical properties of these tissues. Thus, the study hereby presented aims to characterize human pluripotent stem cell monolayer curling transitions, and tries to set the fine line that separates them from the dewetting transitions. For controlling these changes in form, we apply different geometrical constraints by varying the size and shape of the islands using photopatterning of extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins on dishes, and apart from that, we subject the cell monolayers to different external chemical and physical stimuli: we inhibit or activate contractility of the cells by using Y27 drug, we control apical constriction optogenetically, or we vary the cell-substrate adhesion by either using dispase or creating ECM protein gradients. In order to gain control over the curling and dewetting transitions, the role of the different geometrical constraints and external stimuli is assessed. This work shows the contribution of each variable by measuring some mechanical and physical properties of the monolayers, such as curvatures, velocities and traction forces exerted by the tissues. These magnitudes, which change with the stimuli, hold the key that governs the transition, and after assessing the relations between them, we are able of programming the dewetting and curling transitions at will. These approaches leverage prior knowledge from a source domain to improve clustering performance on a target domain, and currently they represent the state of the art in HMS. Bucking this trend, in this paper, we propose a novel unsupervised model that learns a representation of the data and digs clustering information from the data itself. Our model is reminiscent of temporal subspace clustering, but presents two critical differences. First, we learn an auxiliary data matrix that can deviate from the initial data, hence confers more degrees of freedom to the coding matrix. Second, we introduce a regularization term for this auxiliary data matrix that preserves the local geometrical structure present in the high-dimensional space. The proposed model is efficiently optimized by using an original Alternating Direction Method of Multipliers (ADMM) formulation allowing to learn jointly the auxiliary data representation, a nonnegative dictionary and a coding matrix. When a biopsy study is performed, specimens are placed into plastic containers called cassettes. One of the steps that samples undergo consists of a macroscopic examination where the main traits of the specimens in cassettes are documented. The aim of this project is to minimise the time spent on this step by retrieving the information from images automatically from cassette images. Additionally, it aims to reduce human error. This thesis proposes an algorithm that allows reading the alphanumeric code printed on the cassettes specimens are contained in and obtaining the number of samples present, measurements, shape, and colour. The algorithm has been evaluated with MacroPath images provided by Hospitals within the DigiPatICS project. Relying on traditional image processing methods, the system has shown results that compare to the ones currently obtained by pathologists., Cuando se realiza un estudio de una biopsia, los especímenes se colocan en contenedores de plástico llamados casetes. Uno de los pasos a los que se someten las muestras consiste en un examen macroscópico en el que se documentan los principales rasgos de los especímenes en los casetes. El objetivo de este proyecto es minimizar el tiempo empleado en este paso recuperando la información de las imágenes automáticamente a partir de las imágenes de los casetes. Además, también pretende disminuir los errores producidos en esta parte del proceso. Esta tesis propone un algoritmo que permite leer el código alfanumérico impreso en los casetes que contienen los especímenes y obtener el número de muestras presentes, las medidas, la forma y el color. El algoritmo se ha evaluado con imágenes tomadas con MacroPath proporcionadas por los hospitales dentro del proyecto DigiPatICS. Usando métodos tradicionales de procesado de imagen, el sistema ha mostrado resultados comparables a los obtenidos actualmente por los patólogos., Quan es realitza un estudi d'una biòpsia, els espècimens es col·loquen en contenidors de plàstic anomenats cassets. Un dels passos als quals se sotmeten les mostres consisteix en un examen macroscòpic en el qual es documenten els principals trets dels espècimens. L'objectiu d'aquest projecte és minimitzar el temps emprat en aquest pas recuperant la informació de les imatges automàticament a partir de les imatges dels cassets. A més, també es pretén disminuir els errors produïts en aquesta part del procés. Aquesta tesi proposa un algorisme que permet llegir el codi alfanumèric imprès en els cassets que contenen els espècimens i obtenir el nombre de mostres presents, les mesures, la forma i el color. L'algorisme s'ha avaluat amb imatges preses amb MacroPath, les quals han estat proporcionades pels hospitals dins del projecte DigiPatICS. Fent servir mètodes tradicionals de processament d'imatge, el sistema ha mostrat resultats comparables als obtinguts actualment pels patòlegs.

The use and development of micromobility solutions and vehicles in cities is growing too fast, causing possible dangers due to the circulation of different users. The main objective of this thesis is to create a proper video database suitable for a project based on a Deep Learning model that detects different types of lanes, being able to improve both drivers and pedestrian security., El desarrollo de soluciones para la micromovilidad y uso de dichos vehículos en las ciudades está creciendo rápidamente, provocando posibles peligros debido a la circulación de diferentes usuarios. El principal objetivo de esta tesis es crear una base de datos de videos adecuada para un proyecto basado en la aplicación de un modelo Deep Learning para detectar diferentes tipos de carriles, así mejorando la seguridad tanto de los conductores como de los peatones., El desenvolupament de solucions per a la micromobilitat i ús dels seus vehicles a les ciutats està creixent ràpidament, provocant possibles perills a causa de la circulació de diferents usuaris. El principal objectiu d'aquesta tesi és crear una base de dades de vídeo adequada per a un projecte basat en l'aplicació d'un model Deep Learning per detectar diferents tipus de carril, així millorant la seguretat tant dels conductors com dels vianants.

To solve it, in this work we introduce a union of piecewise subspaces to encode the 4D shape, where two modalities based on B-splines and Catmull-Rom curves are considered. We demonstrate that formulating the problem in terms of B-spline or Catmull-Rom functions, allows for a better physical interpretation of the resulting priors while C1 and C2 continuities are automatically imposed without needing any additional constraint. An optimization framework is proposed to sort out the problem in a unified, accurate, unsupervised and efficient manner. We extensively validate our claims on a wide range of human motions, including articulated and continuous deformations as well as those cases with noisy and missing measurements where our approach provides competing joint solutions., Peer Reviewed, Postprint (author's final draft)

Cardiac myocytes are the muscle cells that build up heart tissue and provide the mechanical action to pump blood by synchronously contracting at every heartbeat. Heart muscle contraction is regulated by intracellular calcium concentration which exhibits a complex spatio-temporal dynamical behavior at the molecular, cellular and tissue levels. Details of such dynamical patterns are closely related to the mechanisms responsible for cardiovascular diseases , the single largest cause of death in the developed countries. The emerging field of translational cardiology focuses on the study of how such mechanisms connect and influence each other across spatial and temporal scales, eventually yielding to a certain clinical condition. To study such calcium dynamics in cardiac myocytes, we benefit from the recent advances in the field of experimental cell physiology. Fluorescence microscopy allows us to observe the distribution of calcium in the cell with a spatial resolution below one micron and a frame rate around one millisecond, thus providing a very accurate monitoring of calcium fluxes in the cell. The aim of the thesis summarized in this paper, was to develop image processing computational techniques for extracting quantitative data of physiological relevance from fluorescence confocal microscopy images at different scales. The two main subjects covered in the thesis were image segmentation and classification methods applied to fluorescence microscopy imaging of cardiac myocytes and calcium imaging. These methods were applied to a variety of problems involving different space and time scales, such as the localization of molecular receptors, the detection and characterization of spontaneous calcium-release events, and the propagation of calcium waves across a culture of cardiac cells. This project proposes a method to merge image compression and semantic segmentation, in a single stage, for the foreground/background segmentation approach. This binary segmentation is based on the case of person segmentation, whereby the foreground corresponds to each person in the image and the background is everything else. The proposed method is analysed and compared with an end-to-end compression model followed by a semantic segmentation stage, as well as with the results obtained from uncompressed image segmentation. The CompressAI cheng2020-anchor model and the Pyramid Scene Parsing Network (PSPNet), implemented through the Semseg repository, have been used to develop this approach. The results obtained by the proposed merging method outperform those obtained by the end-to-end compression model followed by the semantic segmentation stage for low bitrates., Este proyecto propone un método para fusionar la compresión de imágenes y la segmentación semántica, en una sola etapa, para el enfoque de segmentación primer plano/fondo. Super-resolution is a popular computer vision task that aims to enhance an image by increasing its resolution. The countless possibilities for applications with this technology and the recent success of deep learning in this field have encouraged a huge development, leading to more efficient and more effective methods. In this thesis I will explore the state-of-the-art of this technology, and I will test some of these applications, with particular interest to those regarding the non-visible spectrum. To do so, I present a new hyperspectral object detection dataset, consisting of 202 annotated images of apples in a bin picking situation. With this benchmark the benefits of super-resolution in such situation are demonstrated, with some models showing up to 24.8% mAP performance improvement in comparison to low resolution images., La super-resolución es una popular tarea de visión que intenta mejorar la calidad de una imagen incrementando su resolución. Las innumerables aplicaciones de esta tecnología y el reciente éxito que ha cosechado el aprendizaje profundo en esta área han impulsado un enorme desarrollo de esta, logrando métodos cada vez más eficientes y efectivos. En esta tesis exploraré el estado del arte de esta tecnología, y pondré a prueba algunas de estas aplicaciones, con especial interés en aquellas centradas en el espectro no visible. Para lograrlo, presento el nuevo dataset hiperespectral de detección de objetos, compuesto de 202 imágenes etiquetadas de manzanas en situación de bin picking. Super-Resolution (SR) is a branch of deep learning aiming at improving the resolution of an image preserving as much detail as possible. This technology applied to overhead imagery has been on the rise in the recent years, but the generation of super-resolved images imposes caution when this data is widespread without adequate information. This calls for the presence of techniques that can determine if an image under analysis is super-resolved, or it has been natively generated at high resolution. In this thesis, we focus on three techniques developed using Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) for generating SR satellite images, as well as developing a SR detector able to discriminate them. This detector is evaluated in three scenarios: binary classification, multi-class classification and an open-set scenario, showing promising results in all of them. A discussion on the features learnt by the detector is finally proposed with the illustration of future research themes., La Superresolución (SR) es una rama del aprendizaje profundo que tiene como objetivo mejorar la resolución de una imagen preservando el máximo detalle posible. Esta tecnología aplicada a las imágenes aéreas ha estado en auge en los últimos años, pero la generación de imágenes superresueltas impone precaución cuando estos datos se difunden sin la información adecuada. Esto exige la presencia de técnicas que puedan determinar si una imagen analizada ha sido superresuelta o generada de forma nativa a alta resolución. En esta tesis nos centramos en tres técnicas desarrolladas mediante Redes Neuronales Convolucionales (CNNs) para la generación de imágenes satelitales de SR, así como en el desarrollo de un detector de SR capaz de discriminarlas. Este detector se evalúa en tres escenarios: clasificación binaria, clasificación multiclase y un escenario abierto, mostrando resultados prometedores en todos ellos. Finalmente se propone una discusión sobre las características aprendidas por el detector con la ilustración de futuros temas de investigación., La Superresolució (SR) és una branca de l'aprenentatge profund que té com a objectiu millorar la resolució d'una imatge preservant el màxim detall possible. Això exigeix la presència de tècniques que puguin determinar si una imatge analitzada ha estat superresolta o generada de manera nativa en alta resolució. En aquesta tesi ens centrem en tres tècniques desenvolupades mitjançant Xarxes Neuronals Convolucionals (CNNs) per a la generació d'imatges satel·litàries de SR, així com en el desenvolupament d'un detector de SR capaç de discriminar-les. Aquest detector s'avalua en tres escenaris: classificació binària, classificació multiclasse i un escenari obert, mostrant resultats prometedors en tots ells. This thesis is a proof of concept that studies the feasibility of image processing techniques to develop new algorithms for the analysis of bone regeneration. Mainly, an algorithm capable of identifying and classifying trabeculae, osteoid tissue and bone marrow from a bone cut image highlighted with eosin will be studied and implemented. This algorithm will consist of a first classification phase, and a correction phase where the user will be able to indicate if a part of the tissue has been wrongly classified and to which class this part should belong to improve the results. The techniques used for its implementation belong to morphological mathematics, such as openings, closings, hole filling techniques and filters by reconstruction., Esta tesis es una prueba de concepto que estudia la viabilidad de las técnicas de procesamiento de imágenes para desarrollar nuevos algoritmos para el análisis de la regeneración ósea. Principalmente, se estudiará e implementará un algoritmo capaz de identificar y clasificar trabéculas, tejido osteoide y médula ósea a partir de una imagen de corte óseo resaltada con eosina. Este algoritmo constará de una primera fase de clasificación, y de una fase de corrección en la que el usuario podrá indicar si una parte del tejido ha sido mal clasificada y a qué clase debe pertenecer dicha parte para mejorar los resultados. Las técnicas utilizadas para su implementación pertenecen a las matemáticas morfológicas, tales como aperturas, cierres y filtros por reconstrucción., Aquesta tesi és una prova de concepte que estudia la viabilitat de les tècniques de processament d'imatges per desenvolupar nous algoritmes per analitzar la regeneració òssia. Principalment, s'estudiarà i s'implementarà un algorisme capaç d'identificar i classificar trabècules, teixit osteoide i medul·la òssia a partir d'una imatge de tall ossi ressaltada amb eosina. Aquest algorisme constarà d'una primera fase de classificació, i d'una fase de correcció on l'usuari podrà indicar si una part del teixit ha estat mal classificada i a quina classe ha de pertànyer aquesta part per millorar-ne els resultats. Les tècniques utilitzades per a la seva implementació pertanyen a les matemàtiques morfològiques, com ara obertures, tancaments i filtres per reconstrucció.

Als hospitals Vall d'Hebron i Bellvitge s'utilitzen dues marques diferents de tinció de cèl·lules HER2 per diagnosticar pacients amb càncer de mama HER2 positiu, que presenten variacions de color. Disposem d'un conjunt de dades etiquetades de Vall d'Hebron que ha permès a l'equip de recerca entrenar un model de segmentació múltiple per fer prediccions, i un conjunt de dades d'imatges de Bellvitge amb només un subconjunt d'etiquetes. Aquest projecte pretén transferir el coneixement que la xarxa ha après amb imatges de Vall d'Hebron per poder obtenir prediccions d'alta qualitat amb imatges de Bellvitge mitjançant fine-tuning del model. A través de diferents experiments, s'estudien tres variables: el nombre mínim d'imatges etiquetades necessàries del nou centre, l'impacte que té la distribució de les classes del conjunt de dades d'entrenament a la fase de fine-tuning i la possibilitat d'obtenir un model capaç de predir imatges d'ambdós centres barrejant les seves dades en la fase de fine-tuning. Addicionalment, s'han explorat algunes tècniques per superar les conseqüències que comporta tenir un conjunt de dades desequilibrat a l'hora d'entrenar el model., In Vall d'Hebron and Bellvitge hospitals, two different HER2 cell staining brands are used to diagnose HER2-positive breast cancer patients, which present color variations. We dispose of a labeled dataset from Vall d'Hebron that allowed the research team to train a multi-segmentation model to make predictions, and a dataset of Bellvitge's images with only a subset of ground truth labels. This project aims to infer the knowledge that the network has gained training with Vall d'Hebron images to make it able to obtain high-quality predictions with Bellvitge images using transfer learning by fine-tuning the model. Three variables are studied through different experiments: the minimum number of labeled images needed from the new center, the impact that the distribution of the classes of the fine-tuning training dataset has, and the possibility of obtaining a model able to predict images from both centers by mixing their data in the fine-tuning phase. Additionally, a few techniques have been explored to overcome the consequences that having an unbalanced dataset entails when training the model.

Hi ha un consens generalitzat en veure el vehicle autònom com el futur de l'automoció, el qual està mobilitzant grans inversions a tot el món. Aquest vehicle autònom necessitarà múltiples tipus de sensors per orientar-se i tenir un bon enteniment del seu entorn. Aquests sensors hauran de ser redundants i compensar-se els diferents defectes que pugui tenir cada un per ser útils en totes les condicions. La percepció multimodal de l'entorn és doncs un camp en expansió. La percepció, però, requereix d'un procés llarg i feixuc com l'anotació de conjunts d'imatge per poder entrenar xarxes neuronals. L'anotació d'un dataset multimodal, doncs, multiplica la feina pel nombre de modes d'imatge a anotar. En aquest projecte s'ha desenvolupat una eina d'anotació multimodal que pretén fer més eficient la feina d'etiquetar dades d'entrenament per a un prototip que enregistra imatges RGB, tèrmiques i núvols de punts a la vegada. La principal funcionalitat es basa en transportar anotacions entre modes de manera que es puguin anotar les dades d'entrenament de cada mode juntes, però es guardin per separat que és com es necessiten per poder fer l'entrenament. Més enllà de la funcionalitat bàsica, al projecte s'incorporen altres funcionalitats per a la millora de l'eficiència i l'experiència de l'usuari, fent l'etiquetatge més fàcil de fer i revisar. S'ha programat una interfície d'usuari capaç d'anotar en tots els modes d'imatge, i de transportar les anotacions entre elles fent servir la calibració prèvia dels modes d'imatge. El treball presenta diferents avantatges com la possibilitat de transportar entre els modes que es desitgi, la visualització de la fusió dels modes 2D amb el mode 3D, la còpia d’anotacions entre instants, la reproducció del dataset per la visualització i revisió general, la possibilitat de carregar la configuració i els pesos d’una xarxa neuronal preentrenada per a poder fer pseudo-labeling, i s'ha testejat en datasets reals capturats en tots els modes d'imatge., There is a general consensus that the autonomous vehicle is the future of the automotive industry, which is mobilising huge investments around the world. This autonomous vehicle will need multiple types of sensors to orient itself and have a good understanding of its environment. These sensors will have to be redundant and mutually compensate for each other's different shortcomings in order to be useful in all conditions. Perception, however, requires a long and tedious process such as the annotation of image datasets in order to train neural networks. The annotation of a multimodal dataset then multiplies the task by the number of image modes to be labelled. In this project, a multimodal annotation tool has been developed to make the task of labelling datasets more efficient for a prototype that records RGB, thermal and point cloud images at the same time. The main functionality is based on transporting labels between modes so that training data from each mode can be labelled together but stored separately as needed for training purposes. In addition to the basic functionality, the project incorporates other functionalities to improve efficiency and user experience, making tagging easier to do and review. A user interface has been programmed that is able to annotate in all image modes (3D, RGB and thermal), and to transport the annotations between them by making use of the pre-calibration of the image modes. The work presents different advantages such as the possibility of transporting labels between the desired modes, the visualisation of the fusion of the 2D modes with the 3D mode, the copy of labels between instants, the reproduction of the dataset for visualisation and general revision, the possibility of loading the configuration and weights of a pre-trained neural network in order to perform pseudo-labeling, and it has been tested on real datasets captured in all the image modes.

Recently, the Snapshot Real-Time Kinematic (SRTK) technique was demonstrated, which aims at achieving high accuracy navigation solutions with a very short signal collection. The main challenge in implementing SRTK is the generation of valid carrier-phase measurements, which relies on a data bit ambiguity (DBA) resolution process. For pilot signals, this step is equivalent to the correct selection of secondary code indexes (SCIs) from the ambiguous sets obtained from a multi-hypotheses (MH) acquisition process. Currently, SCI ambiguities are solved independently for each satellite. However, this method is ineffective when the snapshot signal is relatively short. In order to tackle this problem, this article proposes a new method that makes use of assistance data and processes information from all satellites to jointly solve the DBA issue. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most frequent type of primary hepatic malignant tumor in adults and the third most common cause of cancer-related death worldwide. Its recommended diagnostic techniques are multiphasic contrast-enhanced both CT and MRI, which provide acceptable accuracy in the detection of lesions larger than 2 cm of nodule diameter. Nevertheless, characterizing such an incident and malignant tumor is still a challenge that needs to be addressed. Previous studies have proposed the use of 18F-FDG ?a radiotracer that can help estimate the metabolic rate in tissues? in Early Dynamic PET/CT to further characterize HCC lesions. It is suggested that its kinetics and blood flow parameters can be related to the histological parameters of the HCC, which would help determine the aggressivity of the lesion. In this project, we have created a robust workflow that processes PET/CT images and computes blood flow parameters of several ROIs. This has assessed the characterization of the lesion by comparison of its parameters with the ones obtained for background liver ?liver in which lesions have been excluded?. To visually compare the different behaviors in the liver we have also generated voxel- wise-parameter images in which both the lesion extent and its different behavior compared to background liver were clearly distinguishable. Although analysis for 24 patients did not lead to statistical findings clearly related with the histology of resected HCC, parameter images proved to be a successful tool to discriminate the lesion's extent and different behavior inside the ROI of HCC. This workflow proved itself as a powerful tool with which more HCC patients can be analyzed to obtain correlations between these parameters and the histology of the lesion., El carcinoma hepatocelular (HCC) es el tipo más frecuente de tumor maligno hepático primario en adultos y la tercera causa más común de muerte relacionada con el cáncer en todo el mundo. Sin embargo, la caracterización de un tumor tan incidente y maligno sigue siendo un desafío que debe abordarse. Estudios previos han propuesto el uso de 18F-FDG, un radiotrazador que puede ayudar a estimar la tasa metabólica en los tejidos, en Early Dynamic PET/CT para caracterizar mejor las lesiones de HCC. Se sugiere que sus parámetros cinéticos y de flujo sanguíneo puedan relacionarse con los parámetros histológicos del CHC, lo que ayudaría a determinar la agresividad de la lesión. En este proyecto, hemos creado un flujo de trabajo robusto que procesa imágenes PET/CT y calcula los parámetros de flujo sanguíneo de varias ROI. Para ello se ha valorado la caracterización de la lesión por comparación de sus parámetros con los obtenidos para el hígado de fondo, hígado en el que se han excluido las lesiones. Para comparar visualmente los diferentes comportamientos en el hígado, también generamos imágenes de parámetros de vóxeles en las que tanto la extensión de la lesión como su diferente comportamiento en comparación con el hígado de fondo eran claramente distinguibles. Aunque el análisis de 24 pacientes no condujo a hallazgos estadísticos claramente relacionados con la histología del CHC resecado, las imágenes de parámetros demostraron ser una herramienta exitosa para discriminar la extensión de la lesión y el diferente comportamiento dentro del ROI del CHC. Este flujo de trabajo demostró ser una poderosa herramienta con la que se pueden analizar más pacientes con HCC para obtener correlaciones entre estos parámetros y la histología de la lesión., El carcinoma hepatocel·lular (HCC) és el tipus de tumor maligne hepàtic primari més freqüent en adults i la tercera causa més freqüent de mort relacionada amb el càncer a tot el món. Les seves tècniques diagnòstiques recomanades són la TC i la ressonància magnètica amb contrast multifàsic, que proporcionen una precisió acceptable en la detecció de lesions més grans que 2 cm de diàmetre del nòdul. No obstant això, caracteritzar un incident com aquest i un tumor maligne encara és un repte que cal abordar. Per comparar visualment els diferents comportaments al fetge, també hem generat imatges de paràmetres de voxel en les quals es distingia clarament tant l'extensió de la lesió com el seu comportament diferent en comparació amb el fetge de fons. Tot i que l'anàlisi de 24 pacients no va donar lloc a troballes estadístiques clarament relacionades amb la histologia de l'HCC resecat, les imatges de paràmetres van demostrar ser una eina d'èxit per discriminar l'extensió de la lesió i el comportament diferent dins del ROI de l'HCC. Aquest flux de treball es va demostrar com una potent eina amb la qual es poden analitzar més pacients amb HCC per obtenir correlacions entre aquests paràmetres i la histologia de la lesió.

A vital aspect when modelling the mechanical behaviour of existing masonry structures is the accuracy in which the geometry of the real structure is transferred in the numerical model. Commonly, the geometry of masonry is captured with traditional techniques (e.g. visual inspection and manual surveying methods), which are labour intensive and error-prone. Over the last ten years, advances in photogrammetry and image processing have started to change the building industry since it is possible to capture rapidly and remotely digital records of objects and features. Although limited work exists in detecting distinct features from masonry structures, up to now there is no automated procedure leading from image-based recording to their numerical modelling. To address this, an innovative framework, based on image-processing, has been developed that automatically extracts geometrical features from masonry structures (i.e. masonry units, mortar, existing cracks and pathologies, etc.) and generate the geometry for their advanced numerical modelling. The proposed watershed-based algorithm initially deconstructs the features of the segmentation, then reconstructs them in the form of shared vertices and edges, and finally converts them to scalable polylines. The polylines extracted are simplified using a contour generalisation procedure. The geometry of the masonry elements is further modified to facilitate the transition to a numerical modelling environment. The proposed framework is tested by comparing the numerical analysis results of an undamaged and a damaged masonry structures, using models generated through manual and the proposed algorithmic approaches. This thesis presents the result of the research and development of technologies and algorithms based on incremental learning used in computer vision applications. The main objective is that the algorithms should be able to learn more concepts as time passes, adapt to possible changes in the stationarity of the data, manage and train the network once we have a new class at the entrance not seen before by the own network keeping the result of the old classes. To carry out the project, two databases were used that provide data sets separated by classes. The great challenge of the thesis is how to manage and preserve the knowledge of old classes without requiring a large amount of memory, which current algorithms need, while at the same time new classes are trained on the input., La tesis presenta el resultado de la investigación y desarrollo de tecnologías y algoritmos basados en el aprendizaje incremental utilizados en aplicaciones de visión por computadora. El principal objetivo es que los algoritmos deben ser capaces de aprender más conceptos a medida que pasa el tiempo, adaptarse a posibles cambios de estacionariedad de los datos, gestionar y entrenar la red una vez tenemos una nueva clase en la entrada no vista antes por la propia red manteniendo el resultado de las clases antiguas. Para llevar a cabo el proyecto, se ha utilizado dos bases de datos que proporcionan conjuntos de datos separados por clases. El gran reto de la tesis es como gestionar y preservar el conocimiento de clases antiguas sin requerir una gran cantidad de memoria, cosa que los algoritmos actuales necesitan, mientras a la vez clases nuevas en la entrada son entrenadas., La tesis presenta el resultat de la recerca i desenvolupament de tecnologies i algoritmes basats en l'aprenentatge incremental utilitzats en aplicacions de visió per computadora. El principal objectiu és que els algoritmes han de ser capaços d'aprendre més conceptes a mesura que passa el temps, d'adaptar-se a possibles canvis d'estacionarietat de les dades, gestionar i entrenar la xarxa un cop una nova classe és a l'entrada no vista abans per la pròpia xarxa. Per dur a terme el projecte, s'ha utilitzat dues bases de dades que proporcionen conjunts de dades separats per classes. El gran repte de la tesis és com gestionar i preservar el coneixement de classes antigues sense requerir una gran quantitat de memòria, cosa que els algoritmes actuals necessiten, mentre a la vegada classes noves a l?entrada són entrenades.

Sensor calibration can be done by identifying known points of interest of a calibration pattern into the intensity images captured with the sensor. If the same exact points are identified using multiple sensors, then multiple-sensor calibration can be achieved and the results used for sensor fusion. In this master thesis, several scripts for automatic detection of intersections of a calibration pattern imaged with three types of sensors: an RGB camera, a thermal camera, and a lidar system have been developed. The aim has been to pursue an automatic way for extracting the points of interest employing digital image processing techniques. Three different image sets of a calibration pattern, one set for each sensor, have been used as input data and the intersections obtained as results. In the case of RGB images, fully automatic operation (without user interaction) has been achieved, detecting the region of interest (ROI) and extracting the intersection points. For thermal and lidar images, the user is required to select the ROI before the script can find the intersection points.

In recent years, applications employing 3D and 2D data have emerged, and they all requirematching 3D models to 2D images. Large-scale location recognition systems allow to esti-mate the location where a picture was taken. Geo-localization systems can be useful in theautonomous driving context by performing place recognition in situations where the GPS mightfail. Furthermore, forensic police could use this systems to solve crimes or prevent attacks.Thegoal of this thesis is to find a novel method to register 2D images to 3D point clouds. Deeplearning techniques are employed for such purpose.A stat-of-the-art study of 2D-3D registration and matching methods is carried out. Some tech-niques are implemented to serve as baseline to the novel work developed: a neural networkbased on graphs trained in a triplet-like fashion with a VGG16 architecture to generate cross-domain descriptors of images and point clouds. The presented architecture can achieve similar(and sometimes better) performance than state-of-the-art techniques in the 2D-3D matchingtask.

In the current era, humanity greatly relies on electricity to sustain itself. Electricity can be obtained through several methods; however, non-polluting methods are actively sought to substitute the environmentally harming traditional ones. In this context, nuclear fusion energy brings with it a promise of clean and almost unlimited energy without the drawbacks that other methods may. This, nevertheless, comes with several challenges, being one of the most relevant ones the overheating of components inside the reactor. This document presents tools for a potential solution for the stellarator type device Wendelstein 7-X, by proposing a system capable of tracking thermal events through ongoing experiments, using for this purpose the detector implemented at UPC by Rocco Clemente Bonjour in the context of his Master Thesis., En la era actual, la humanidad depende en gran medida de la electricidad para mantenerse. La electricidad puede obtenerse por varios métodos; sin embargo, se buscan activamente métodos no contaminantes para sustituir a los tradicionales, que son perjudiciales para el medio ambiente. En este contexto, la energía de fusión nuclear promete una energía limpia y casi ilimitada sin los riesgos que acarrean otros métodos. Wendelstein 7-X is a Stellator fusion reactor prototype. Many experiments are currently being performed obtaining data from cameras located at different points of the reactor. In this project, image processing is applied to treat these data in order to analyze the behavior of the plasma and the temperature at each instant. Using the captured images, we study the physical reactor surface covered by every pixel so as to achieve which elements are overheating or to detect anomalies., Wendelstein 7-X es un prototipo de reactor de fusión Stellator. Actualmente se realizan experimentos en los que se obtienen datos a partir de cámaras situadas en diferentes puntos del reactor. En este proyecto se tratan estos datos aplicando conocimientos de procesamiento de imagen para obtener características que sirvan para analizar el comportamiento del plasma y la temperatura en cada instante. Utilizando las imágenes capturadas, se estudia cuál es la superfície física del reactor cubierta por el campo visual de cada pixel. De esta manera se puede saber qué elementos se están tratando para en un futuro saber si se están sobrecalentando o poder estudiar otro tipo de comportamientos., Wendelstein 7-X és un prototip de reactor de fusió Stellator. Actualment es realitzen experiments en els quals s'obtenen moltes dades a partir de càmeres situades a diferents punts del reactor. En aquest projecte es tracten aquestes dades aplicant coneixements de processament d'imatge per tal d'obtenir característiques que serveixin per analitzar el comportament del plasma i la temperatura en cada instant. D'aquesta manera, utilitzant les imatges capturades, es calcula quina superfície física del reactor és visualitzada pel camp visual de cada píxel i així poder saber quins elements del reactor s'estan tractant per veure en el futur si s'estan sobreescalfant o poder estudiar altres tipus de comportament.
