This book constitutes the refereed post-conference proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Machine Learning and Intelligent Computing which was held in October 2022 in Jinhua, China. Due to COVID-19 pandemic the conference was held virtually. The 16 full papers of MLICOM 2022 were selected from 41 submissions and are clustered in thematical issues on applications of neural network and deep learning; intelligent massive MIMO communications; machine learning algorithms and intelligent networks.

The International Scientific and Professional Conference on Geodesy, Cartography and Geoinformatics 2017 (GCG 2017) was organized under the auspices of the Faculty of Mining, Ecology, Process Control and Geotechnologies, Technical University of Košice (SK), Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice (SK), Faculty of Civil Engineering, STU Bratislava (SK), Faculty of Civil Engineering, CTU Prague (CZ), University of Technology, Kielce (PL), AGH University of Science and Technology, Krakow (PL), Upper Nitra Mines Prievidza, plc. Primäres Ziel des vorliegenden Bandes ist es, einen Überblick über die aktuelle Forschung im Bereich von Repräsentation und Verarbeitung räumlichen Wissens zu geben. Die Beiträge des Bandes decken das gesamte Spektrum der kognitionsorientierten KI-Forschung ab, von Arbeiten, die, in der Tradition der Kybernetik bzw. Neurophysiologie stehend, Aspekte der Raumorientierung in biologischen Systemen betreffen, über formale Ansätze zur Bildverarbeitung und Integration von Bild- und Sprachverarbeitung, die an Fragestellungen der Theoretischen Informatik orientiert sind, bis zu Ansätzen, die die natürlichsprachliche Verarbeitung räumlicher Konstellationen durch Menschen und Maschinen betreffen. Video segmentation is the most fundamental process for appropriate index­ ing and retrieval of video intervals. In general, video streams are composed 1 of shots delimited by physical shot boundaries. Substantial work has been done on how to detect such shot boundaries automatically (Arman et aI., 1993) (Zhang et aI., 1993) (Zhang et aI., 1995) (Kobla et aI., 1997). Through the inte­ gration of technologies such as image processing, speech/character recognition and natural language understanding, keywords can be extracted and associated with these shots for indexing (Wactlar et aI., 1996). A single shot, however, rarely carries enough amount of information to be meaningful by itself. Usu­ ally, it is a semantically meaningful interval that most users are interested in re­ trieving. Generally, such meaningful intervals span several consecutive shots. There hardly exists any efficient and reliable technique, either automatic or manual, to identify all semantically meaningful intervals within a video stream. Works by (Smith and Davenport, 1992) (Oomoto and Tanaka, 1993) (Weiss et aI., 1995) (Hjelsvold et aI., 1996) suggest manually defining all such inter­ vals in the database in advance. However, even an hour long video may have an indefinite number of meaningful intervals. Moreover, video data is multi­ interpretative. Therefore, given a query, what is a meaningful interval to an annotator may not be meaningful to the user who issues the query. In practice, manual indexing of meaningful intervals is labour intensive and inadequate.

The Twelfth International Workshop on Maximum Entropy and Bayesian Methods in Sciences and Engineering (MaxEnt 92) was held in Paris, France, at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), July 19-24, 1992. It is important to note that, since its creation in 1980 by some of the researchers of the physics department at the Wyoming University in Laramie, this was the second time that it took place in Europe, the first time was in 1988 in Cambridge. The two specificities of MaxEnt workshops are their spontaneous and informal charac­ ters which give the participants the possibility to discuss easily and to make very fruitful scientific and friendship relations among each others. This year's organizers had fixed two main objectives: i) to have more participants from the European countries, and ii) to give special interest to maximum entropy and Bayesian methods in signal and image processing. We are happy to see that we achieved these objectives: i) we had about 100 participants with more than 50 per cent from the European coun­ tries, ii) we received many papers in the signal and image processing subjects and we could dedicate a full day of the workshop to the image modelling, restoration and recon­ struction problems.

For the third time the Italian Group on Pattern Recogni tion has organized an International Conference on Image Analysis and Processing (lAP) gathering together the most active groups working in this area in our country. The first International Conference lAP was held in Pavia (1980) and the second one in Selva di Fasano (1982). A selected set of distinguished speakers has been invited to talk about their personal experience and views on industrial applications (H Freeman), the critical analysis of medical image processing (D Rutovitz), the advances of robot vision languages (M Silva) and the availability of AI technology for imI?roving the performance of PR and IP programs (J M Chassery). Four different areas have been covered by the papers submitted and refereed) to the conference first and to a scientific committee next, namely IP Techniques, Multiprocessor Architectures, Robot Vision and IP Applications. A final paper giving the results of a census of the Italian groups is provided showing, with some detail, typical research lines as pursued in working groups both at the University and Industry. About 39 groups are presently active in 12 different places of the peninsula.

This book contains the proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Data Analysis and Processing held in Cefalu'(Palermo, ITALY) on September 23-25 1987. The aim of this Conference, now at its fourth edition, was to give a general view of the actual research in the area of methods and systems for achieving artificial vision as well as to have an up-dated information of the current activity in Europe. Recent developments in computer visualisation mean that it is now possible to combine computer-generated image sequences with real video, in real time, for broadcast quality production. This will not only revolutionise the broadcast industry, by making'electronic film sets'possible for example, but also has important implications for related fields such as virtual reality, multi-media, industrial vision, and medical image processing. This volume contains papers from the European Workshop on Combined Real and Synthetic Image Processing for Broadcast and Video Production, held in Hamburg, 23-24 November 1994. Imaging science has the power to illuminate regions as remote as distant galaxies, and as close to home as our own bodies. Many of the disciplines that can benefit from imaging share common technical problems, yet researchers often develop ad hoc methods for solving individual tasks without building broader frameworks that could address many scientific problems. At the 2010 National Academies Keck Futures Initiative Conference on Imaging Science, researchers from academia, industry, and government formed 14 interdisciplinary teams created to find a common language and structure for developing new technologies, processing and recovering images, mining imaging data, and visualizing it effectively. The teams spent nine hours over two days exploring diverse challenges at the interface of science, engineering, and medicine. NAKFI Seeing the Future with Imaging Science contains the summaries written by each team. These summaries describe the problem and outline the approach taken, including what research needs to be done to understand the fundamental science behind the challenge, the proposed plan for engineering the application, the reasoning that went into it, and the benefits to society of the problem solution.

This book constitutes the proceedings of the Third International Workshop on Traffic Monitoring and Analysis, TMA 2011, held in Vienna, Austria, on April 27, 2011 - co-located with EW 2011, the 17th European Wireless Conference. This volume collects the papers accepted for presentation at the 12th Int- national Conference on “Advanced Concepts for Intelligent Vision Systems” (ACIVS 2010). Following the?rst meeting in Baden-Baden (Germany) in 1999, whichwaspartofalargemulticonference,theACIVSconferencethendeveloped into an independent scienti?c event and has ever since maintained the tradition of being a single track conference. ACIVS 2010 attracted computer scientists from 29 di?erent countries, mostly from Europe, Australia, and the USA, but also from Asia. Although ACIVS is a conference on all areas of image and video processing, submissions tend to gather within certain major?elds of interest. This year 3D and depth processing and computer vision and surveillance were popular topics. Noteworthy are the growing number of papers related to theoretical devel- ments. We would like to thank the invited speakers Mubarak Shah (University of Central Florida), Richard Kleihorst (VITO, Belgium), Richard Hartley (A- tralian National University), and David Suter (Adelaide University) for their valuable contributions.

The 14th Iberoamerican Congress on Pattern Recognition (CIARP 2009, C- gresoIberoAmericanodeReconocimientodePatrones)formedthelatestofanow longseriesofsuccessfulmeetingsarrangedbytherapidlygrowingIberoamerican pattern recognition community. The conference was held in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico and organized by the Mexican Association for Computer Vision, Neural Computing and Robotics (MACVNR). It was sponsodred by MACVNR and?ve other Iberoamerican PR societies. CIARP 2009 was like the previous conferences in the series supported by the International Association for Pattern Recognition (IAPR). CIARP 2009 attracted participants from all over the world presenting sta- of-the-artresearchon mathematical methods and computing techniques for p- tern recognition, computer vision, image and signal analysis, robot vision, and speech recognition, as well as on a wide range of their applications. This time the conference attracted participants from 23 countries,9 in Ibe- america, and 14 from other parts of the world. The total number of submitted papers was 187, and after a serious review process 108 papers were accepted, all of them with a scienti?c quality above overall mean rating. Sixty-four were selected as oral presentations and 44 as posters. Since 2008 the conference is almost single track, and therefore there was no real grading in quality between oral and poster papers. As an acknowledgment that CIARP has established itself as a high-quality conference, its proceedings appear in the Lecture Notes in Computer Science series. Moreover, its visibility is further enhanced by a selection of a set of papers that will be published in a special issue of the journal Pattern Recognition Letters.

As future generation information technology (FGIT) becomes specialized and fr- mented, it is easy to lose sight that many topics in FGIT have common threads and, because of this, advances in one discipline may be transmitted to others. Presentation of recent results obtained in different disciplines encourages this interchange for the advancement of FGIT as a whole. Of particular interest are hybrid solutions that c- bine ideas taken from multiple disciplines in order to achieve something more signi- cant than the sum of the individual parts. Through such hybrid philosophy, a new principle can be discovered, which has the propensity to propagate throughout mul- faceted disciplines. FGIT 2009 was the first mega-conference that attempted to follow the above idea of hybridization in FGIT in a form of multiple events related to particular disciplines of IT, conducted by separate scientific committees, but coordinated in order to expose the most important contributions. It included the following international conferences: Advanced Software Engineering and Its Applications (ASEA), Bio-Science and Bio-Technology (BSBT), Control and Automation (CA), Database Theory and Application (DTA), D- aster Recovery and Business Continuity (DRBC; published independently), Future G- eration Communication and Networking (FGCN) that was combined with Advanced Communication and Networking (ACN), Grid and Distributed Computing (GDC), M- timedia, Computer Graphics and Broadcasting (MulGraB), Security Technology (SecTech), Signal Processing, Image Processing and Pattern Recognition (SIP), and- and e-Service, Science and Technology (UNESST).

The 107 revised full papers presented together with 3 invited papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 168 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on computer graphics and image processing, low and middle level processing, 2D and 3D segmentation, feature extraction and image analysis, object detection and recognition, video analysis and processing, pattern analysis and classification, learning, graphs and trees, applications, shape analysis, face analysis, medical imaging, and image analysis and pattern recognition.

Visual informatics is a field of interest not just among the information technology and computer science community, but also other related fields such as engineering, me- cal and health informatics and education starting in the early 1990s. Recently, the field is gaining more attention from researchers and industry. It has become a mul- disciplinary and trans-disciplinary field related to research areas such as computer vision, visualization, information visualization, real-time image processing, medical image processing, image information retrieval, virtual reality, augmented reality, - pressive visual mathematics, 3D graphics, multimedia-fusion, visual data mining, visual ontology, as well as services and visual culture. Various efforts has been - vested in different research, but operationally, many of these systems are not pro- nent in the mass market and thus knowledge and research on these phenomena within the mentioned areas need to be shared and disseminated. It is for this reason that the Visual Informatics Research Group from Universiti - bangsaan Malaysia (UKM) decided to spearhead this initiative to bring together experts in this very diversified but important research area so that more concerted efforts can be undertaken not just within the visual informatics community in Malaysia but from other parts of the world, namely, Asia, Europe, Oceania, and USA. This first International Visual Informatics Conference (IVIC 2009) was conducted collaboratively, by the visual informatics research community from the various public and private institutions of higher learning in Malaysia, and hosted by UKM.

Heterogeneous object modelling is a new and quickly developing research area. This book is one of the first attempts to systematically cover the most relevant themes and problems of this new and challenging subject area. It is a collection of invited papers and papers co-authored by the editors. Each chapter presents either new research results or a survey on the following topics: Formal models and abstractions of heterogeneous objects including geometric, topological, discrete and continuous models, operations forming special algebras and conversions between different model types. Data structures and algorithms for representing, modifying and computing with heterogeneous objects. Computational techniques for the design, reconstruction, optimization, analysis and simulation of heterogeneous objects that incorporate information on shape, material and physical behavior using a common framework. Applications of heterogeneous object modelling in engineering and scientific areas, including geophysical, biomedical, artistic and multi-material fabrication applications.
