Abstract

A series of cyclometalated N-heterocyclic carbene complexes of the general formula [Ir(CN)(2)(CC:)] has been prepared. Two sets of compounds were designed, those where (CC:) represents a bidentate naphthalimide-substituted imidazolylidene ligand and (CN) = ppy (3a), F2ppy (4a), bzq (5a) and those where (CC:) represents a naphthalimide-substituted benzimidazolylidene ligand and (CN) = ppy (3b), F2ppy (4b), bzq (5b). The naphthalimide-imidazole and naphthalimide-benzimidazole ligands 1a,b and the related imidazolium and benzimidazolium salts 2a, b were also prepared and fully characterized. The N-heterocyclic carbene Ir(III) complexes have been characterized by NMR spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry and elemental analysis. Moreover, the molecular structures of one imidazolium salt and four Ir(III) complexes were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The structures provide us with valuable information, most notably the orientation of the naphthalimide chromophore with respect to the N-heterocyclic carbene moiety. All compounds are luminescent at room temperature and in a frozen solvent at 77 K, exhibiting a broad emission band that extends beyond 700 nm. The presence of the naphthalimide moiety changes the character of the lowest excited state from (MLCT)-M-3 to (LC)-L-3, as corroborated by DFT and TD-DFT calculations. Remarkably, replacing imidazole with a benzimidazole unit improves the quantum yields of these compounds by decreasing the k(nr) values which is an important feature for optimized emission performance. These studies provide valuable insights about a novel class of N-heterocyclic carbene-based luminescent complexes containing organic chromophores and affording metal complexes emitting across the red-NIR range.

Abstract

International audience; The dyads 1–3 made of an alkynylated ZnII–porphyrin and a bis‐methanofullerene derivative connected through a copper‐catalyzed azide–alkyne cycloaddition have been synthesized. The porphyrin and fullerene chromophores are separated through a bridge made of a bismethanofullerene tether linked to different spacers conjugated to the porphyrin moiety [i.e., m‐phenylene (1), p‐phenylene (2), di‐p‐phenylene‐ethynylene (3)]. Compounds 1–3 exhibit relatively rigid structures with an interchromophoric separation of 1.7, 2.0, and 2.6 nm, respectively, and no face‐to‐face or direct through‐bond conjugation. The photophysical properties of compounds 1–3 have been investigated in toluene and benzonitrile with steady‐state and time‐resolved techniques as well as model calculations on the Förster energy transfer. Excited‐state interchromophoric electronic interactions are observed with a distinct solvent and distance dependence. The latter effect is evidenced in benzonitrile, where compounds 1 and 2 exhibit a photoinduced electron transfer in the Marcus‐inverted region, with charge‐separated (CS) states living for 0.44 and 0.59 μs, respectively, whereas compound 3 only undergoes energy transfer, as in apolar toluene. The quantum yield of the charge separation (φCS) of compounds 1 and 2 in benzonitrile is ≥0.75. It is therefore demonstrated that photoinduced energy and electron transfers in porphyrin–fullerene systems with long interchromophoric distances may efficiently occur also when the bridge does not provide a wire‐like conjugation and proceed through the triplet states of the chromophoric moieties.

Abstract

International audience; Aims In degenerative mitral regurgitation (DMR), lack of mortality scores predicting death favours misperception of individual patients' risk and inappropriate decision-making. Methods and results The Mitral Regurgitation International Database (MIDA) registries include 3666 patients (age 66 +/- 14 years; 70% males; follow-up 7.8 +/- 5.0 years) with pure, isolated, DMR consecutively diagnosed by echocardiography at tertiary (European/North/South-American) centres. The MIDA Score was derived from the MIDA-Flail-Registry (2472 patients with DMR and flail leaflet-Derivation Cohort) by weighting all guideline-provided prognostic markers, and externally validated in the MIDA-BNP-Registry (1194 patients with DMR and flail leaflet/prolapse-Validation Cohort). The MIDA Score ranged from 0 to 12 depending on accumulating risk factors. In predicting total mortality post-diagnosis, the MIDA Score showed excellent concordance both in Derivation Cohort (c = 0.78) and Validation Cohort (c = 0.81). In the whole MIDA population (n = 3666 patients), 1-year mortality with Scores 0, 7-8, and 11-12 was 0.4, 17, and 48% under medical management and 1, 7, and 14% after surgery, respectively (P < 0.001). Five-year survival with Scores 0, 7-8, and 11-12 was 98 +/- 1, 57 +/- 4, and 21 +/- 10% under medical management and 99 +/- 1, 82 +/- 2, and 57 +/- 9% after surgery (P < 0.001). Abstract

The synthesis of three deep-red-emitting iridium(III) complexes featuring a naphthalimide N-heterocyclic carbene ligand was investigated. The introduction of this organic chromophore onto the carbene moiety changed the character of the lowest excited state from triplet metal-to-ligand charge transfer to triplet ligand centered, as corroborated by time-dependent DFT calculations. All complexes displayed a naphthalimide- based deep-red phosphorescence emission above lambda = 630 nm in polymer matrix with good quantum yields (Phi approximate to 0.2) and long lifetimes.

Abstract

The subject of this communication concerns the Museum activity in economical and socio-cultural life of our territory, considered as a resource, a visitors' attractor, such as tourists, schools, research world and so on, and finally a memories place. As regards this last point, as a memories place, it represents the focus of the Memory Project, aimed at recovering the regional seafaring cultural heritage, lastly dispelled in backyard and home contexts. Many objects and documents are concealed in private houses, while we would like to give them visibility and usability, together with an archive of oral sources. All this assumes a value of identity affirmation, able to involve and combine around the Museum mission citizens, scholars, experts, stakeholders,different generations of residents and so on. In consistent with these objectives, the Museum has developed a substantial conferences activities, promoting exhibitions and events of appreciable call, together with the permanent exhibition of the place. To the expansion of the Museum functions contributes also a precise and strategic choose: to interact with a wide net concerning regional, national and Euro-Mediterranean Institutions and Organizations, such as the Association of Mediterranean Maritime Museums and the Monumental Arsenals of Mediterranean Countries. ----------------------------; Il tema della comunicazione riguarda l'attività del Museo inserita nella vita economico-socio-culturale del territorio, inteso come risorsa e attrattore di presenze (visitatori, turisti, scuole, mondo della ricerca etc.) e di memorie. Molti oggetti-documenti si trovano occultati nel privato, mentre ci si propone di renderli visibili e fruibili, insieme ad un archivio delle fonti orali. Ciò assume un valore di affermazione di identità, in grado di coinvolgere ed aggregare intorno alla mission del Museo cittadini, studiosi, esperti, stakeholders, generazioni diverse di residenti. Coerentemente con tali obiettivi, il Museo ha sviluppato una consistente attività convegnistica e ha promosso mostre ed eventi di notevole richiamo, iniziative che si integrano con l'esposizione permanente. All'allargamento della funzione del Museo contribuisce anche una precisa scelta strategica: interagire con una ampia rete di Enti e Istituzioni regionali, nazionali ed euro-mediterranee, tra cui l'Associazione dei Musei del Mare del Mediterraneo e la Rete degli Arsenali Monumentali dei Paesi del Mediterraneo.

Abstract

Good governance at the local level produce territories, that are socially cohesive and ecologically sound. Territories are endowed, with different potentials vis-à-vis the dilemmas and challenges of the transition imposed by the global change. It is very important to build up the capacity of any territory to struggle with new opportunities and risks. An elementary analytics for discussing about territorial capabilities is exposed together with arguments intended to criticize reductionist approaches to the governance of territories.

Abstract

Taking into consideration the reality of the territory, we are presented with a particular sharpness in the field of social politics2. Since the social politics of the state are about fundamental rights, essential for social cohesion and individual well-being (health, occupation, training and insertion into society, etc.), we cannot see their effectiveness if we are looking at the place of people's lives: this headline the territorializing of the state in the social field should be carried out in an exemplary way3. At the same time this field comes across multiple problems which give several different politics. These services have been placed historically, culturally and operatively but have nothing in common with one another. In this way what we evidently see in the public sector the inter-ministerial approach rather than the global approach to situations which are associated to this most of the time. Overall, it is important to estimate that the territorializing of state action risks, in a social way, appear at a brutal breaking point with major inheritance, building up over tens of years of intervention which answered to the approach by (population) (people who suffered handicap, people with similar pathologies, and those whose social position had those connections.) We can therefore see at first sight that it would be potentially risky for the effectiveness of the politics in question and also for the population it is addressed to. The promotion of territorializing levels out and upsets the naturalization of such matter4. It would be better if we could manage the two approaches together rather than separating them. It is therefore clear that we are faced with a difficult task to collect a fortiori for the Ministers whose ways are often seen as being too weak compared to the depth of their mission.
