The article discusses the views of former solicitor general and attorney general for Ireland Sir John Davies concerning agrarian law in Ireland during the early 17th century. The author argues that Davies considered the failure of Irish plantations the result of inept medieval Irish political economy. The article also discusses Davies's emphasis on the equitable distribution of lands as necessary to Irish political reform. The article also examines the influence of Roman agrarian law.
