Introduction Photophobia is a common visual symptom following mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI), which can adversely affect the military readiness and performance of service members (SMs). We employed the Defense and Veterans Eye Injury and Vision Registry (DVEIVR) to identify and describe a cohort of SMs diagnosed with photophobia post-mTBI. The objective of this study was to characterize comorbid conditions and symptoms in an mTBI cohort with photophobia, to assess their co-occurrence, to describe the persistence of photophobia, and to assess the effectiveness of utilization of currently available International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems (ICD) codes in reporting photophobia in this cohort. Materials and Methods The DVEIVR database was searched to identify a cohort of SMs experiencing photophobia after mTBI. Photophobia and other potentially related conditions and symptoms, both coded and descriptive, which were abstracted directly from the medical records of SMs, were found within DVEIVR. The presence of the conditions and symptoms comorbid with photophobia was characterized on both patient and encounter levels. Analysis of co-occurrence of photophobia with these conditions or symptoms was performed on the encounter level using co-occur package in the statistical program R. Persistence of photophobia up to 1 year since the injury was assessed. The utilization of currently available ICD codes for photophobia was analyzed. Results A total of 639 SMs exhibiting photophobia after mTBI were identified in DVEIVR. Headaches, including migraines, were the most frequently experienced comorbidity affecting 92% of the SMs in the cohort. The second most frequent complaint was dizziness and/or vertigo (53%) followed by nausea (42%), blurry vision (31%), and irritation and discomfort in the eye (17%). In all, 20% of encounters with photophobia had a complaint of headaches, followed by 8.3% of photophobia encounters co-occurring with dizziness and vertigo, 5.7%—with nausea, 4.5%—with blurred vision, and 2.1%—with subjective sensations in the eye. All comorbidities co-occurred with photophobia at probabilities higher than by chance alone. The percentage of mTBI SMs experiencing photophobia declined to 20% at 30 days after the injury, 17% at 3 months, 12% at 6 months, and 7% at 12  months post-injury, respectively. The use of currently available ICD codes for photophobia was very low—only 27.1% of the cohort had at least 1 ICD code recorded in their medical records. Conclusions The results of this study support the idea that there is a strong relationship between photophobia and headache after an mTBI. Additional research is warranted to better understand this relationship and its causes so that clinical management improves. The results of this study show a precipitous decline in the numbers of cases of photophobia after mTBI over the first 30 days and a longer-term persistence up to a year in a minority of cases, which is consistent with other research in this field. Various ICD codes, which are currently used to code for photophobia, along with other vision conditions, were not widely used to document photophobia symptoms. This paper deals with the history and epistemology of acute polymorphic psychosis. We undertook a comparative study of short-lived psychotic disorders used in different European countries since the late nineteenth century. The theory of degeneration offered a speculative basis to conceptualization of conditions such as bouffée délirante, cycloid psychosis and reactive psychosis, but it seems likely that different factors contributed to the profusion of clinical concepts with adverse effects on both nomenclature and classification. The resulting picture suggests that earlier nosological concepts tend to converge on common descriptive features and challenge the diagnostic categories for short-lived psychotic disorders listed in modern symptom-based psychiatric classifications. This article presents the findings of a population-based case-control study on risk factors for lichen planus (LP) in women. The study found that certain conditions such as hepatitis C, oral candidiasis, periodontitis, Sjögren's syndrome, and vitiligo increased the odds of LP, while autoimmune diseases like systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, and Graves' disease decreased the odds. Cardiometabolic and psychiatric conditions were associated with reduced odds of LP. The study emphasized the importance of considering the temporal order of diagnoses when examining comorbidities and called for further research on the pathogenetic process of LP and its associated conditions. Background: The surgical treatment of bony non-unions is traditionally performed with additional bone grafts when atrophic and/or stronger implants when hypertrophic. In the case of the clavicle shaft, however, in our experience, a more controversial method where no additional bone graft is needed leads to equally good consolidation rates, independent of the non-union morphology. This method requires the meticulous anatomical reconstruction of the initial fracture and fixation according to the AO principle of relative stability. Methods: A retrospective review following the STROBE guidelines was performed on a consecutive cohort of all patients who received surgical treatment of a midshaft clavicle non-union at the Medical Center of the University of Freiburg between January 2003 and December 2023. Patients were identified using a retrospective systematical query in the Hospital Information System (HIS) using the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems Version 10 (ICD-10) codes of the German Diagnosis Related Groups (G-DRG). Two groups were formed to compare the consolidation rates of patients who received additional bone grafting from the iliac crest with those of patients who did not. A 3.5 mm reconstruction LCP plate was used in all patients. Consolidation rates were evaluated using follow-up radiographs and outcomes after material removal with a mean follow-up of 31.5 ± 44.3 months (range 0–196). Results: Final data included 50 patients, predominantly male (29:21); age: 46.0 ± 13.0 years, BMI 26.1 ± 3.7. Autologous bone grafts from the iliac crest were used in 38.0% (n = 19), while no bone addition was used in 62.0% (n = 30). Six patients were lost to follow-up. Radiological consolidation was documented after a mean of 15.1 ± 8.0 months for the remaining 44 patients. Consolidation rates were 94.4% (n = 17) in patients for whom additional bone grafting was used and 96.2% (n = 25) in patients for whom no graft was used. There was no relevant difference in the percentage of atrophic or hypertrophic non-unions between both groups (p = 0.2425). Differences between groups in the rate of consolidation were not significant (p = 0.7890). The complication rate was low, with 4.5% (n = 2). Conclusions: Independent of the non-union morphology, non-unions of the clavicle midshaft can be treated successfully with 3.5 mm locking reconstruction plates without the use of additional bone grafting in most cases. Administrative healthcare databases can be utilised for research. The accuracy of the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, Tenth Edition, Australian Modification (ICD-10-AM) coding of cardiovascular conditions in New Zealand is not known and requires validation. International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, Tenth Edition, Australian Modification coded discharges for acute coronary syndrome (ACS), heart failure (HF) and atrial fibrillation (AF), in both primary and secondary diagnostic positions, were identified from four district health boards between 1 January 2019 and 31 June 2019. A sample was randomly selected for retrospective clinician review for evidence of the coded diagnosis according to contemporary diagnostic criteria. Positive predictive values (PPVs) for ICD-10-AM coding vs clinician review were calculated. This study is also known as All of New Zealand, Acute Coronary Syndrome–Quality Improvement (ANZACS–QI) 77. A total of 600 cases (200 for each diagnosis, 5.0% of total identified cases) were reviewed. The PPV of ACS was 93% (95% confidence interval [CI] 89%–96%), HF was 93% (95% CI 89%–96%) and AF was 96% (95% CI 92%–98%). There were no differences in PPV between district health boards. PPV for ACS were lower in Māori vs non-Māori (72% vs 96%; p=0.004), discharge from non-Cardiology vs Cardiology services (89% vs 96%; p=0.048) and ICD-10-AM coding for unstable angina vs myocardial infarction (81% vs 95%; p=0.011). PPV for HF were higher in the primary vs secondary diagnostic position (100% vs 89%; p=0.001). The PPVs of ICD-10-AM coding for ACS, HF, and AF were high in this validation study. Modern diagnostic and classification frameworks such as the ICD‐11 and DSM‐5‐AMPD have adopted a dimensional approach to diagnosing personality disorder using a dual "severity" and "trait" model. As narcissistic personality has historically struggled to be adequately captured in dominant diagnostic systems, this study investigated the utility of the new ICD‐11 framework in capturing diverse narcissistic expressions. Participants were mental health clinicians (N = 180, 67% female, age = 38.9), who completed ratings of ICD‐11 personality severity, trait domains and a clinical reflection for two hypothetical case vignettes reflecting either prototypical "grandiose" or "vulnerable" narcissism. The majority of clinicians (82%) endorsed a diagnosis of personality disorder for both grandiose and vulnerable vignettes. Discriminant elements of personality impairment included rigid, unrealistically positive self‐view, low empathy and high conflict with others for grandiosity, and incoherent identity, low self‐esteem and hypervigilant, avoidant relations with others for vulnerability. Regarding trait profile, grandiose narcissism was predominately dissocial whereas vulnerable narcissism was primarily associated with negative affectivity and detachment. Qualitative responses highlight distinct clinical themes for each presentation. These findings suggest that clinicians using the ICD‐11 framework are able to identify common core elements of personality dysfunction in grandiose and vulnerable narcissism while also recognizing their distinctive differences. AbstractObjectivesMethodsResultsConclusionsOur study aimed to assess perspectives of the Thai transgender adults toward three diagnostic criteria: 1) transsexualism (the World Health Organisation’s International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, tenth revision; ICD-10), 2) gender incongruence (the International Classification of Diseases, eleventh revision; ICD-11), and 3) gender dysphoria (the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, fifth edition; DSM-5). We also gathered comments and suggestions on these criteria for future refinement, especially specific to Thai sociocultural contexts.During February to November 2023, we conducted a survey among transgender individuals from five major Thai transgender communities. Participants were requested to 1) indicate their agreement whether each criterion could describe their identity and be suitable for the Thai transgender community using ten-point Likert scales, 2) select three keywords from each criterion and one most appropriate criterion, and 3) provide additional suggestions.A total of 266 transgender individuals, participated in the study (62.4% and 25.2% transgender men and women, and 12.4% other identities). Both ICD-10 and DSM-5 criteria received the highest levels of agreement, averaging scores of 8.7 across most categories. Suggestions for refining criteria included a sufficiently long duration, using terms indicating inclusivity of all identities as a person, and noting positive outcomes of transitioning within the criteria.The DSM-5 criteria garnered the highest levels of agreement in terms of identity description and suitability for the Thai sociocultural contexts. We reevaluated HiTOP's existing factor analytic evidence-base for a Psychosis (P) superspectrum as encompassing two psychosis-relevant subfactors ("spectra")—Thought Disorder (TD) and Detachment (D). We found that their data did not support P as a superspectrum with TD and D subfactors. Instead, TD contained both positive and negative symptoms of psychosis and emerged at the subfactor level. D did not target negative symptoms but, largely, disorders unrelated to psychosis and should not be placed under P. Determining if P is truly a superspectrum with psychosis TD and D subfactors will require factor analyses whose items are symptom-based and span the full range of psychopathology. Secondly, HiTOP authors state that TD and D provide a "nearly 2-fold" improvement in reliability over schizophrenia diagnoses but, after aligning the comparative study methodologies, this 2-fold improvement disappears. Finally, HiTOP's use of the term thought disorder is inconsistent with the ICD-11 and psychosis literature, in which it refers to formal thought disorder. We recommend that HiTOP (a) refer to P as a subfactor with positive and negative symptoms of psychosis until research indicates otherwise, (b) regularly rely on formal systematic reviews, (c) use appropriate reliability comparisons, (d) deconflate D with negative symptoms, and (e) rename TD. Divergent conceptualization of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) within the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (5th ed.; DSM‐5) and International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems (11th ed..; ICD‐11) significantly confounds both research and practice. Using a diverse sample of trauma‐exposed youth (N = 1,542, age range: 8–20 years), we compared these two diagnostic approaches along with an expanded version of the ICD‐11 PTSD criteria that included three additional reexperiencing symptoms (ICD‐11+). Within the sample, PTSD was more prevalent using the DSM‐5 criteria (25.7%) compared to the ICD‐11 criteria (16.0%), with moderate agreement between these diagnostic systems, κ =.57. The inclusion of additional reexperiencing symptoms (i.e., ICD‐11+) reduced this discrepancy in prevalence (24.7%) and increased concordance with DSM‐5 criteria, κ =.73. All three PTSD classification systems exhibited similar comorbidity rates with major depressive episode (MDE) or generalized anxiety disorder (GAD; 78.0%–83.6%). Most youths who met the DSM‐5 PTSD criteria also met the criteria for ICD‐11 PTSD, MDE, or GAD (88.4%), and this proportion increased when applying the ICD‐11+ criteria (95.5%). Symptom‐level analyses identified reexperiencing/intrusions and negative alterations in cognition and mood symptoms as primary sources of discrepancy between the DSM‐5 and ICD‐11 PTSD diagnostic systems. Overall, these results challenge assertions that nonspecific distress and diagnostically overlapping symptoms within DSM‐5 PTSD inflate comorbidity with depressive and anxiety disorders. Objective: Hospital‐acquired infections are a common complication for patients with moderate or severe traumatic brain injury (TBI), contributing to morbidity and mortality. As infection‐mediated immune responses can predispose towards epilepsy, we hypothesized that post‐injury hospital‐acquired infections increase the risk of post‐traumatic epilepsy (PTE). Methods: A retrospective cohort study of adults with moderate to severe TBI was conducted using data from the Victorian State Trauma Registry in Australia. Infections were identified from the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems 10th Revision–Australian Modification (ICD‐10‐AM) codes, and diagnosis of PTE was determined by the Glasgow Outcome Scale – Extended questionnaire regarding epileptic fits at 24 months follow‐up. Results: Of all TBI patients (n = 15 152), 24% had evidence of having had any type of infection, with the most common being pneumonia, urinary tract, and respiratory infections. Of those who responded to the PTE question at 24 months (n = 1361), 11% had developed PTE. Univariable analysis found that the incidence of PTE was higher in patients who had any type of infection compared to patients without an infection (p < 0.001). After adjustment for covariates associated with both development of PTE and risk of infection, multivariable analysis found a solid association between infection and PTE (adjusted RR = 1.59; 95% CI: 1.11–2.28; p = 0.011). Having any type of complicating infection acquired during admission was also associated with poor GOSE outcomes at subsequent follow‐ups (adjusted OR = 0.20; 95% CI: 0.11–0.35, p < 0.001). Significance: These findings suggest that hospital‐acquired infections contribute to PTE development after TBI. Future investigation into infections as a modifiable target to reduce poor outcomes after TBI is warranted. Background Aims Methods Results Conclusions Community‐acquired pneumonia (CAP) leads to considerable morbidity and mortality globally. However, data on CAP burden in Australia, especially during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) pandemic, are limited.We characterised and assessed clinical outcomes of non‐COVID‐19 CAP hospitalisations over a 6‐year period at two major hospitals in South Australia.All non‐COVID‐19 CAP hospitalisations were identified using the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, Tenth revision, Australian modification (ICD‐10‐AM) codes, between 1 January 2018 and 31 December 2023, at two tertiary hospitals in Adelaide. Clinical outcomes included in‐hospital and 30‐day mortality, length of stay (LOS) in, intensive care unit (ICU) admission and 30‐day readmissions. Multilevel regression models were utilised to identify predictors of clinical outcomes.Over the 6‐year period, there were 7853 non‐COVID‐19 CAP hospitalisations, with a temporal increase from 100 per 100 000 population in 2018 to 208 per 100 000 population in 2023 (P < 0.001). The mean (SD) age was 75.1 (17.6) years, and 54.6% were males. The mean age declined over time (P < 0.05), while other characteristics remained stable. Streptococcus pneumoniae was the most commonly identified bacterium (21.8% of cases). In‐hospital mortality occurred in 7.8% of patients, with 30‐day mortality and readmission rates of 14.3% and 16.9% respectively. LOS declined significantly during the pandemic years; however, mortality remained stable over time. Frailty status, malnutrition and number of comorbidities significantly predicted 30‐day mortality and LOS, in addition to pneumonia severity and ICU admission.There has been an increasing trend of hospitalisations for non‐COVID‐19 CAP during the COVID‐19 pandemic, with a concomitant trend towards shorter LOS and no significant shift in other clinical outcomes. Background: The 10th revision of the International Classification of Diseases, Clinical Modification (ICD‐10) includes diagnosis codes for placenta accreta spectrum for the first time. These codes could enable valuable research and surveillance of placenta accreta spectrum, a life‐threatening pregnancy complication that is increasing in incidence. Objective: We sought to evaluate the validity of placenta accreta spectrum diagnosis codes that were introduced in ICD‐10 and assess contributing factors to incorrect code assignments. Methods: We calculated sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value and negative predictive value of the ICD‐10 placenta accreta spectrum code assignments after reviewing medical records from October 2015 to March 2020 at a quaternary obstetric centre. Histopathologic diagnosis was considered the gold standard. Results: Among 22,345 patients, 104 (0.46%) had an ICD‐10 code for placenta accreta spectrum and 51 (0.23%) had a histopathologic diagnosis. ICD‐10 codes had a sensitivity of 0.71 (95% CI 0.56, 0.83), specificity of 0.98 (95% CI 0.93, 1.00), positive predictive value of 0.61 (95% CI 0.48, 0.72) and negative predictive value of 1.00 (95% CI 0.96, 1.00). The sensitivities of the ICD‐10 codes for placenta accreta spectrum subtypes— accreta, increta and percreta—were 0.55 (95% CI 0.31, 0.78), 0.33 (95% CI 0.12, 0.62) and 0.56 (95% CI 0.31, 0.78), respectively. Cases with incorrect code assignment were less morbid than cases with correct code assignment, with a lower incidence of hysterectomy at delivery (17% vs 100%), blood transfusion (26% vs 75%) and admission to the intensive care unit (0% vs 53%). Primary reasons for code misassignment included code assigned to cases of occult placenta accreta (35%) or to cases with clinical evidence of placental adherence without histopatholic diagnostic (35%) features. Conclusion: These findings from a quaternary obstetric centre suggest that ICD‐10 codes may be useful for research and surveillance of placenta accreta spectrum, but researchers should be aware of likely substantial false positive cases. Montelukast prescribing information includes a Boxed Warning issued in March 2020 regarding neuropsychiatric adverse events. A previous Sentinel System study of asthma patients from 2000 to 2015 did not demonstrate an increased risk of intentional self-harm measured using the International Classification of Diseases, Ninth Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-9-CM) codes, with montelukast compared to inhaled corticosteroids (ICS). Using a new user cohort study design, we examined intentional self-harm events in patients aged 10 years and older who were incident users of either montelukast or ICS as monotherapy, with a diagnosis of asthma, between October 1, 2015, to June 30, 2022, in the Sentinel System. We measured intentional self-harm using ICD-10-CM codes, which may have better accuracy for capturing suicide attempts than ICD-9-CM codes. We used inverse probability of treatment weighting to balance baseline covariates. We performed subgroup analyses by age group, sex, psychiatric history, and pre/post Boxed Warning era and conducted sensitivity analyses varying type of care setting of the outcome and exposure episode gaps. Among 752,230 and 724,855 patients in the montelukast and ICS exposure groups respectively, we found no association between montelukast use and self-harm compared to ICS use [Hazard Ratio (95% Confidence Interval): 0.96 (0.85, 1.08)]. This finding was consistent across all subgroups, and sensitivity analyses. Our results cannot exclude other neuropsychiatric idiosyncratic reactions to montelukast. Compared to the previous Sentinel study, this study identified about double the rate of self-harm events, suggesting a greater sensitivity of ICD-10 codes for measuring self-harm than ICD-9. Evidence on the recent temporal trend in the incidence and mortality of early-onset cancer, i.e., cancer diagnosed at ages of < 50 years, in Germany is scarce. To estimate the temporal trend in the incidence and mortality of early-onset cancer in Germany between 1999 and 2019. Input data were obtained from the Centre for Cancer Registry Data (Zentrum für Krebsregisterdaten, ZfKD). The analysis comprised all ages until 50 years and all types of cancer classified by the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10)-codes C00-C97 (excl. C44). Temporal trends were estimated using negative binomial regression, differentiated by sex and cancer type. Between 1999 and 2019 in Germany, we observed stable or slightly increasing trends (0% and 1%) in the incidence of all early-onset cancers combined (C00-C97) for men and women, respectively, and strict declines in the mortality for both, men and women (-2% and − 3%). However, the trends differ largely with respect to sex and the individual cancer types. Early-onset cancer should be closely monitored to see whether stable and decreasing trends in the incidence and mortality continue. Knowing that despite decreasing incidence, the prevalence of a disease can rise due to their interplay with mortality, we recommend to maintain precise surveillance, efforts in prevention and early detection, as well as appropriate investments into healthcare resources, research and development. Study Design: Retrospective analysis of a national database. Objectives: COVID-19 resulted in the widespread shifting of hospital resources to handle surging COVID-19 cases resulting in the postponement of surgeries, including numerous spine procedures. This study aimed to quantify the impact that COVID-19 had on the number of treated spinal conditions and diagnoses during the pandemic. Methods: Using CPT and ICD-10 codes, TriNetX, a national database, was utilized to quantify spine procedures and diagnoses in patients >18 years of age. The period of March 2020-May 2021 was compared to a reference pre-pandemic period of March 2018-May 2019. Each time period was then stratified into four seasons of the year, and the mean average number of procedures per healthcare organization was compared. Results: In total, 524,394 patient encounters from 53 healthcare organizations were included in the analysis. There were significant decreases in spine procedures and diagnoses during March-May 2020 compared to pre-pandemic levels. Measurable differences were noted for spine procedures during the winter of 2020-2021, including a decrease in lumbar laminectomy and anterior cervical arthrodesis. Comparing the pandemic period to the pre-pandemic period showed significant reductions in most spine procedures and treated diagnoses; however, there was an increase in open repair of thoracic fractures during this period. Conclusions: COVID-19 resulted in a widespread decrease in spinal diagnosis and treated conditions. An inverse relationship was observed between new COVID-19 cases and spine procedural volume. Recent increases in procedural volume from pre-pandemic levels are promising signs that the spine surgery community has narrowed the gap in unmet care produced by the pandemic. Although historically tied to schizophrenia, catatonia exhibits a diverse range of phenotypes and has been observed in various medical and neuropsychiatric conditions. Its intrinsic movement characteristics and association with hypokinetic and hyperkinetic phenomenologies place catatonia within the purview of movement disorders. Despite the presence of catatonia in psychiatry literature for over 150 years, many gaps and controversies persist regarding its etiopathogenesis, phenomenology, diagnostic criteria, and treatment. The current versions of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD‐11) and the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM‐5) require clinicians to identify any three signs of 15 (ICD‐11) or 12 (DSM‐5) for the diagnosis of catatonia. Catalepsy and waxy flexibility are the only motor features with high specificity for the diagnosis. We highlight the gaps and controversies in catatonia as a movement disorder, emphasize the lack of a clear definition, and discuss the inconsistencies in the description of various catatonic signs. We propose the exploration of a bi‐axial classification framework similar to that used for dystonia and tremor to encourage the evaluation of underlying etiologies and to guide therapeutic decisions to improve the outcome of these patients. © 2024 International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society. The current changes to the treatment recommendations and the diagnostic categorization of trans* identities in the ICD‐11 require a new consideration of past therapeutic methods and approaches. The depathologization of trans* lives in the ICD‐11 finally enables trans* people to access psychotherapeutic services more freely, as the compulsory therapy that has thus far been required for access to transition‐related treatments, as well as the so‐called “diagnosis” and “treatment” of “transsexuality”, have been removed. Trans* people will nevertheless be interested in qualified psychotherapeutic treatment options. Due to the decades‐long discrimination and treatment in the health system that has disregarded the human rights of trans* people, a trans*‐affirmative approach is necessary, one that takes into account the context of the treatment and critically reflects upon one's own position as a health professional. This affirmative and self‐reflective approach provides the basis upon which therapeutic concerns and topics related to a life lived in accordance with a self‐determined (gender) identity, related needs, and the fulfillment of those needs, can be discussed. The consequences of experiences of discrimination, violence and exclusion are, moreover, important elements of therapy that require a structural and social contextualization in order to address internalized trans*‐negativity and to empower trans* people in their self‐assertion. Objectives: There are dozens of screening instruments purporting to measure the (Internet) gaming disorder (IGD/GD). The two prominent diagnostic manuals, DSM‐5 and ICD‐11, list several additional diagnostic or clinical features and problems (e.g., neglect of sleep, neglect of daily duties, health deterioration) that should co‐occur or be caused by the IGD/GD. It remains unclear how specific IGD/GD operationalizations (different screening scales) are related to these functional impairments. Methods: To explore this, data on six measures of IGD/GD (IGDS9‐SF, GDSS, GDT, GAMES test, two self‐assessments) and 18 additional diagnostic features were collected from a sample of 1009 players who play digital games at least 13 h per week. A network approach was utilized to determine which operationalization is most strongly associated with functional impairment. Results: In most of the networks, IGD/GD consistently emerged as the most central node. Conclusion: The similar centrality of IGD/GD, irrespective of its definition (DSM‐5 or ICD‐11) or operationalization, provides support for the valid comparison or synthesis of results from studies that used instruments coming from both DSM‐5 and ICD‐11 ontologies, but only if the goal is to evaluate IGD/GD relationships to other phenomena, not the relationships between the symptoms themselves. Background: We conducted a systematic review to identify existing ICD-10 coding validation studies in progressive supranuclear palsy and corticobasal syndrome [PSP/CBS]) and, in a new study, evaluated the accuracy of ICD-10 diagnostic codes for PSP/CBS in Scottish hospital inpatient and death certificate data. Methods: Original studies that assessed the accuracy of specific ICD-10 diagnostic codes in PSP/CBS were sought. Separately, we estimated the positive predictive value (PPV) of specific codes for PSP/CBS in inpatient hospital data (SMR01, SMR04) compared to clinical diagnosis in four regions. Sensitivity was assessed in one region due to a concurrent prevalence study. For PSP, the consistency of the G23.1 code in inpatient and death certificate coding was evaluated across Scotland. Results: No previous ICD-10 validation studies were identified. 14,767 records (SMR01) and 1497 records (SMR04) were assigned the candidate ICD-10 diagnostic codes between February 2011 and July 2019. The best PPV was achieved with G23.1 (1.00, 95% CI 0.93–1.00) in PSP and G23.9 in CBS (0.20, 95% CI 0.04–0.62). The sensitivity of G23.1 for PSP was 0.52 (95% CI 0.33–0.70) and G31.8 for CBS was 0.17 (95% CI 0.05–0.45). Only 38.1% of deceased G23.1 hospital-coded cases also had this coding on their death certificate: the majority (49.0%) erroneously assigned the G12.2 code. Discussion: The high G23.1 PPV in inpatient data shows it is a useful tool for PSP case ascertainment, but death certificate coding is inaccurate. This study aimed at assessing the extent to which factors associated with male child sexual offending may also be applicable to women with a self-identified sexual interest in children. Participants (n = 42) took part in an anonymous online survey covering questions about general characteristics, general sexuality, sexual interest in children, and previously-perpetrated contact child sexual abuse. Group comparisons between women who reported committing contact child sexual abuse compared to those who had not were conducted in terms of sample characteristics. Furthermore, the two groups were compared regarding the factors of high sexual activity, use of child abuse material, indication of ICD-11 pedophilic disorder diagnosis, exclusivity of sexual interest in children, emotional congruence with children, and childhood maltreatment. Our results revealed that high sexual activity, indication of ICD-11 pedophilic disorder diagnosis, exclusivity of sexual interest in children, and emotional congruence with children were associated with previous contact child sexual abuse perpetration. The role of the emergency medical system is to provide assistance to every person in a state in the event of a sudden threat to health and life. Emergency medical teams (EMTs) are an important element of this system, making diagnoses based on the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10). The study was aimed at analysing the causes of EMT intervention based on groups of diagnoses codified according to the ICD-10. The analysis was based on data from 116,278 EMT interventions in central-eastern Poland in 2017-2019. The research showed that EMT most often made diagnoses based on groups of ICD-10 codes: R00-R99-Symptoms, signs, and abnormal clinical and laboratory findings, not elsewhere classified (39.11%); S00-T98-Injury, poisoning, and certain other consequences of external causes (18.23%); and I00-I99-Diseases of the circulatory system (15.57%). The analysis of the obtained results showed statistically significant differences (p < 0.0001) regarding the area of intervention (urban, rural), sex, age of the patient, and the method of completion of the activities by EMTs in relation to the group of ICD-10 diagnoses for the diagnosis. The conducted study showed the actual reasons for EMT calls. The use of the ICD-10 classification has practical application in EMTs, as it enables the identification of a disease or health problem. Background: Delirium is a major cause of preventable mortality and morbidity in hospitalized adults, but accurately determining rates of delirium remains a challenge. Objective: To characterize and compare medical inpatients identified as having delirium using two common methods, administrative data and retrospective chart review. Methods: We conducted a retrospective study of 3881 randomly selected internal medicine hospital admissions from six acute care hospitals in Toronto and Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. Delirium status was determined using ICD-10-CA codes from hospital administrative data and through a previously validated chart review method. Baseline sociodemographic and clinical characteristics, processes of care and outcomes were compared across those without delirium in hospital and those with delirium as determined by administrative data and chart review. Results: Delirium was identified in 6.3% of admissions by ICD-10-CA codes compared to 25.7% by chart review. Using chart review as the reference standard, ICD-10-CA codes for delirium had sensitivity 24.1% (95%CI: 21.5–26.8%), specificity 99.8% (95%CI: 99.5–99.9%), positive predictive value 97.6% (95%CI: 94.6–98.9%), and negative predictive value 79.2% (95%CI: 78.6–79.7%). Age over 80, male gender, and Charlson comorbidity index greater than 2 were associated with misclassification of delirium. Inpatient mortality and median costs of care were greater in patients determined to have delirium by ICD-10-CA codes (5.8% greater mortality, 95% CI: 2.0–9.5 and $6824 greater cost, 95%CI: 4713–9264) and by chart review (11.9% greater mortality, 95%CI: 9.5–14.2% and $4967 greater cost, 95%CI: 4415–5701), compared to patients without delirium. Conclusions: Administrative data are specific but highly insensitive, missing most cases of delirium in hospital. Mortality and costs of care were greater for both the delirium cases that were detected and missed by administrative data. Better methods of routinely measuring delirium in hospital are needed. This article discusses the need for updated diagnostic criteria for chronic secondary musculoskeletal pain associated with Parkinson's disease (PD). The authors propose enhancing the current criteria to include motor fluctuations, pain relief with dopaminergic treatment, and disease onset. They believe that these updated criteria will help differentiate between different types of pain in clinical practice. The article also provides a brief overview of the historical understanding and classification of pain in PD. Introduction: Complex PTSD (CPTSD) is a relatively new condition in ICD-11. This pilot randomised controlled trial aimed to compare a four-module intervention developed to target all symptoms of ICD-11 CPTSD, namely Enhanced Skills in Affective and Interpersonal Regulation (ESTAIR) with treatment as usual (TAU). The purpose of the study was to assess feasibility, safety, acceptability, and preliminary outcomes at the end of treatment and 3-month follow-up. Methods: A total of N = 56 eligible veterans with CPTSD were randomised to either ESTAIR (n = 28) or TAU (n = 28). Linear mixed models were conducted to assess CPTSD severity, the primary outcome, as measured by the International Trauma Questionnaire (ITQ). Results: Treatment dropout in ESTAIR and TAU was low and equivalent (18% vs. 11%; χ2 (1) = 1.19, p = 0.275), and study retention was high, supporting the feasibility of the study. No serious adverse effects and very few adverse effects occurred, none of which were deemed related to the study. ESTAIR provided significantly greater reduction in CPTSD severity across time for ITQ PTSD (p < 0.001) and DSO (p < 0.001) symptoms. CPTSD pre-to-post effect sizes for ESTAIR were large (PTSD d = 1.78; DSO d = 2.00). Remission of probable CPTSD diagnosis at post-treatment was substantially greater in ESTAIR compared to TAU with only 13.6% versus 84% (p < 0.001) retaining the diagnosis. Conclusion: A trial of ESTAIR versus TAU for the treatment of ICD-11 CPTSD indicates the potential efficacy of ESTAIR as well as its feasibility, safety, and acceptability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Burnout syndrome is characterized by the triad of symptoms exhaustion, mental distance from work activities and a feeling of ineffectiveness. The syndrome is not an independent mental disorder but can be coded in the 10th Revision of the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems (ICD-10) as a problem related to difficulties in coping with life (Z73) and in ICD-11 as a qualifying diagnosis (QD85). This article discusses the prevalence and comorbidities of burnout syndrome, taking the methodological difficulties in conceptualizing and operationalizing the construct into account. In addition, it provides an overview of available measurement instruments and their validation. Background: Although high rates of bereavement are evident in war‐affected populations, no study has investigated the prevalence and correlates of probable ICD‐11 prolonged grief disorder (PGD) under these circumstances. Methods: Participants were 2050 adults who participated in a nationwide survey exploring the effects of the Ukraine‐Russia war on the daily lives and mental health of Ukrainian people. Results: Of the total sample, 87.7% (n = 1797) of people indicated a lifetime bereavement. In the full sample, 11.4% met the diagnostic requirements for probable ICD‐11 PGD, and amongst those with a lifetime bereavement, the conditional rate of probable ICD‐11 PGD was 13.0%. Significant risk factors of ICD‐11 PGD included the recent loss of a loved one (6 months to a year ago), being most affected by a partner or spouse's death, loved one dying in the war, no recent contact with the deceased prior to their death, and meeting depression and anxiety diagnostic requirements. Conclusion: The study reveals that a significant percentage of Ukrainian bereaved individuals have probable ICD‐11 PGD, and identifying risk factors, particularly war‐related losses, will aid in the development of intervention and prevention programs for bereaved adults. The aim of this paper is to briefly present the current knowledge on the definition of relational trauma, place in classifications, prevalence, consequences, and applied therapeutic methods. Reports from many countries indicate that in the relationship with adults, usually parents, on whom the child is dependent for many years, various forms of abuse may occur, related not only to violence, but also to emotional, physical, and intellectual neglect. Behind them, the unregistered area of aversive experiences of children who enter adulthood with the experience of relational trauma is hidden. These adverse childhood experiences significantly affect overall functioning in adulthood. For years, researchers of the phenomenon have been paying attention to the existence of a separate diagnosis related to relational trauma. The 11th edition of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11) introduces a new diagnosis: complex post-traumatic stress disorder (Complex PTSD, cPTSD). Olfactory reference disorder (ORD) is included as a new diagnosis in the 11th revision of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11). Its core symptom is persistent preoccupation with the belief that one is emitting a foul or offensive body odor or breath that is usually not perceptible to others. However, there is a lack of knowledge about the prevalence of ORD. In particular, the prevalence of the disorder has not yet been investigated using the ICD-11 diagnostic features. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the point prevalence of ORD according to the ICD-11. A total of 275 German students at university or college, aged 18–53 years, participated in an anonymous internet-based survey assessing ICD-11 essential features for ORD. The prevalence of ORD was 5.5%. Participants who met the self-rated features for ORD reported suicidal thoughts significantly more frequent than participants who did not meet the features for ORD. More than half of the participants with probable ORD reported ideas of reference and at least a strong conviction of their beliefs, suggesting poor insight. In the total sample, single symptoms of ORD were frequent. Persistent preoccupation with the belief of malodor was the most common single symptom. Distress and impairment linked to ORD symptoms were frequent. Our results suggest that ORD may be relatively common in university students and highlight the importance of future studies investigating the epidemiology of ORD as well as its suitable treatment. The transition of ICD has never been a straightforward initiative. As nations transition to ICD-11, ensuring its acceptance among the users is essential. To our knowledge, there are limited studies about the instrument and ICD-11 adoption. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to design an instrument and investigate the factors influencing the intention to use the ICD-11 among medical record officers (MROs) and assistant medical record officers (AMROs) at Ministry of Health (MOH) Malaysia facilities. Based on the current literature, a model based on the decomposed theory of planned behaviour (DTPB) was proposed. The model consisted of 13 dimensions and 12 hypotheses identified from previous studies. Using PLS-SEM, 185 survey data points were analysed. The study findings showed that ten factors have a significant impact on the suggested model. Users' subjective norm was the most influential factor in their intention to use ICD-11. Unexpectedly, perceived usefulness and was found to have no significant influence. This study is important for policymakers in strategising ICD-11 implementation efforts. Objective: Our objective was to check if the ICD-10 operational criteria application changes non-operational, prototype-based diagnoses obtained in a real-life scenario. Methods: Psychiatry residents applied the diagnostic criteria of the ICD-10 as a “diagnostic test” to five outpatient patients they were already following who had a prototype-based diagnosis. Tests were used to ascertain whether changes in opinion were significant and if any of the diagnostic groups were more prone to change than others. The present paper is part of the study with UTN U1111-1260-1212. Results: Seventeen residents reviewed their last five case files, retrieving 85 diagnostic pairs of non-operational-based vs. operational-based diagnoses. The Stuart–Maxwell test did not indicate a significant opinion change (χ² = 5.25, p = 0.39; power = 0.94) besides 30% of diagnostic changes. Despite not being statistically significant, 20.2% of all evaluations resulted in a change that would affect treatment choices. Using ICD-10 operational criteria slightly increased the number of observed diagnoses, but probably without clinical relevance. None of the non-operational diagnoses have a higher tendency to change with operational criteria application (χ² = 11.6, p = 0.07). The female gender was associated with a higher diagnostic change tendency. Conclusion: Applying ICD-10 operational criteria as a diagnostic test does not induce a statistically significant diagnostic opinion change in residents and no diagnostic group seems more sensible to diagnostic change. Gender-related differences in diagnostic opinion changes might be evidence of sunk cost bias. Physicians' letters are the optimal source of diagnoses for registries. However, most registries demand for diagnosis codes such as ICD-10. We herein describe an algorithm that infers ICD-10 codes from German ophthalmologic physicians' letters. We assess the method in three German eye hospitals. Our algorithm is based on the nearest-neighbor method as well as on a large thesaurus for ICD-10 codes. This thesaurus was embedded into a Word2Vec space created from anonymized physicians' reports of the first hospital. For evaluation, each of the three hospitals sent all diagnoses taken from 100 letters. The inferred ICD-10 codes were evaluated for correctness by the senders. A total of 3332 natural language terms had been sent in (812 hospital one, 1473 hospital two, 1047 hospital three). A total of 526 non-diagnoses were excluded upfront. 2806 ICD-10 codes were inferred (771 hospital one, 1226 hospital two, 809 hospital three). In the first hospital, 98% were fully correct and 99% correct at the level of the superordinate disease concept. The percentages in hospital two were 69% and 86%. The respective numbers for hospital three were 69% and 91%. Our simple method is capable of inferring ICD-10 codes for German natural language diagnoses, especially when the embedding space has been built with physicians' letters from the same hospital. Background: The number of refugees worldwide is at an all-time high with many being exposed to potentially traumatic events and the loss of loved ones. The 11th revision of the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems now includes prolonged grief disorder and complex posttraumatic stress disorder and revised criteria for posttraumatic stress disorder. An overview of these stress-related disorders among people who have become refugees is therefore needed. Consequently, we conducted a systematic review to determine prevalence rates, comorbidities, and associated factors for each of the disorders. Method: We systematically searched PubMed, Web of Science, and PsycArticles to identify studies that reported prevalence rates, predictors or associated factors, and/or comorbid mental disorders for either (1) prolonged grief disorder, (2) posttraumatic stress disorder, or (3) complex posttraumatic stress disorder among refugees. The selection process followed the PRISMA guidelines. Results: A total of 36 studies met the inclusion criteria. Most of the studies were of high quality. There was substantial variation in prevalence rates by disorder, with prolonged grief ranging from 6 to 54%, posttraumatic stress disorder ranging from 0.4 to 80%, and complex posttraumatic stress disorder ranging from 3 to 74.6%. Pooled prevalence for posttraumatic stress disorder was estimated at 29.8% in treatment seeking samples and 9.92% in population samples. For complex posttraumatic stress disorder, it was estimated at 57.4% in treatment seeking samples and 7.8% in population samples. Posttraumatic stress disorder was among the most frequent comorbidities for prolonged grief disorder while depressive symptoms were the most frequently occurring co-morbidity across all three disorders. Sociodemographic variables, trauma exposure, and loss characteristics were associated with higher symptom severity. Postmigration living difficulties played an important role in prolonged grief and complex posttraumatic stress disorder. Conclusion: The review revealed substantial differences in prevalence rates between the three studied disorders but underscored a very high prevalence of ICD-11 stress-related disorders among refugees. The identified associated factors point to subgroups that may be particularly at risk and establishes a foundational basis for targeted interventions and potential policy changes. A disease is considered rare if it has a low prevalence. It is estimated that around 400 million people worldwide have a rare disease, including 15 million in Brazil. Consequently, it became a public health priority for the World Health Organization and the Brazilian Health Ministry. In 2014, the Brazilian government launched a national policy regarding the care for rare patients', the Ordinance nº199. The national politic defines guidelines, procedures, and descriptions of rare disease codes to provide access and diagnosis in the public health system to reduce mortality and improve patient's quality of life. Diseases are identified according to the International Classification of Diseases 10th Revision, a widely used terminology in this context. However, there are also different terminologies to codify a rare disease, such as the ORPHAcode provided by Orphanet. This paper proposes a complex network model using the terminologies' relationship to show that the International Classification of Diseases 10th Revision may be generic for diagnosing rare Brazilian patients. Moreover, there is no perfect nomenclature to define rare diseases, but each context has a better application. So, mapping the relationship between each terminology is fundamental for creating consistent semantic relationships in biomedical ontologies, providing a functional environment for carrying out tasks involving more than one terminology. We propose TetraHer, a method for estimating the liability heritability of binary phenotypes. TetraHer has five key features. First, it can be applied to data from complex pedigrees that contain multiple types of relationships. Second, it can correct for ascertainment of cases or controls. Third, it can accommodate covariates. Fourth, it can model the contribution of common environment. Fifth, it produces a likelihood that can be used for significance testing. We first demonstrate the validity of TetraHer on simulated data. We then use TetraHer to estimate liability heritability for 229 codes from the tenth International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10). We identify 107 codes with significant heritability (p < 0.05/229), which can be used in future analyses for investigating the genetic architecture of human diseases. TetraHer is a new method for estimating the heritability of diseases that allows for ascertainment of cases and for contributions of covariates. Obstructed hemivagina and ipsilateral renal anomaly (OHVIRA) includes uterine didelphys, unilateral obstructed hemivagina, and ipsilateral renal anomaly. Surgical management of this condition relies on accurate diagnosis to excise the obstructed longitudinal vaginal septum (OLVS). Vital considerations involve identifying the side affected, ipsilateral renal anomaly (IRA), thickness of the septum (TS), septal axis (SA), and distance of the septum to perineum (DSP). The study aimed to evaluate the preoperative characteristics, imaging findings, and surgical outcomes of OHVIRA. Institutional review board approval was obtained for this retrospective chart review. ICD-10 codes identified OHVIRA cases between 2012 and 2019 at a single children's hospital. Patient demographic characteristics, magnetic resonance imaging findings, surgical management, outcomes, and complications were reviewed. Descriptive statistics were utilized. Twenty-six patients met inclusion criteria. Most were diagnosed at puberty (92%). Abdominal pain (50%) was the most common presenting complaint. The mean age of diagnosis was 13.2 years overall and 11.2 years for those with regular cycles vs 13.4 years for those with irregular cycles. Preoperative imaging showed predominant right-sided OLVS (50%), IRA (77%), and oblique SA (65%). All patients underwent vaginoscopy, septum resection, and vaginoplasty, except 1 who was managed with an abdominal drain as a neonate. Four required postoperative vaginal stent or Foley, with DSP greater than 5 cm in all cases. One intraabdominal abscess complication occurred. No instances of hematocolpos re-accumulation or reoperation were observed during the 3-year follow-up period. This study demonstrates that detailed preoperative planning and a systematic surgical approach lead to favorable outcomes in OHVIRA irrespective of the OLVS laterality, TS, SA, or DSP. The International Classification of Diseases, 10th edition (ICD-10), has been widely used for the classification of patient diagnostic information. This classification is usually performed by dedicated physicians with specific coding training, and it is a laborious task. Automatic classification is a challenging task for the domain of natural language processing. Therefore, automatic methods have been proposed to aid the classification process. This paper proposes a method where Cosine text similarity is combined with a pretrained language model, PLM-ICD, in order to increase the number of probably useful suggestions of ICD-10 codes, based on the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care (MIMIC)-IV dataset. The results show that a strategy of using multiple runs, and bucket category search, in the Cosine method, improves the results, providing more useful suggestions. Also, the use of a strategy composed by the Cosine method and PLM-ICD, which was called PLM-ICD-C, provides better results than just the PLM-ICD. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article examines the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on care-seeking patterns for hay fever in Japan. The study used a retrospective claims database cohort to analyze changes in outpatient visits and prescriptions for hay fever during the pandemic. The findings indicate a significant decrease in care-seeking behaviors for hay fever during the COVID-19 pandemic, likely due to lifestyle changes and preventive measures implemented to minimize SARS-CoV-2 exposure. Background: The child mortality rate is one of the important indicators that is influenced by various factors such as the health, economic, political, and cultural status of societies. Objectives: The purpose of this study is to determine the causes related to the death of children aged 1 to 59 months in Zahedan University of Medical Sciences (ZAUMS) in the years 2018 to 2020 using the 10th edition of the International Classification of Diseases. Methods: The population of this descriptive study was children aged 1 - 59 months who died in the population covered by ZAUMS from 2018 to 2020. The research data were collected from the mortality surveillance system for children aged 1 to 59 months of the Vice-Chancellors for Health and Treatment Affairs of ZAUMS. The data collection tool was a checklist. The collected data was analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: The death rates of children aged 1 to 59 months in 2018, 2019, and 2020 were 7.6, 7.9, and 6.9 per thousand live births, respectively. The highest percentage of deaths was related to boys ages 1 to 12 months. Most of the deceased were residents of urban areas. The most common causes of death were related to respiratory system diseases, injuries, poisonings, and other specific consequences of external causes, such as congenital malformations, deformations, and chromosomal abnormalities. Conclusions: Educating parents on timely treatment of respiratory system diseases in children, improving the knowledge of families to control accidents and take better care of children in high-risk environments where there is a possibility of burns, respiratory obstruction, poisoning, and drowning, reforming and promoting policies related to genetic screening plans to identify congenital abnormalities during pregnancy, and premarital counseling to prevent high-risk family marriages can improve children’s health index. In the current diagnostic systems, the International Classification of Diseases-11th rev. (ICD-11) and the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders-5th ed. (DSM-5), the evaluation and diagnosis of personality disorder (PD) aim at dimensional examination of the severity of its dysfunction and the stylistic features that accompany it. Since their implementation, or even before, several measures have been developed to assess PD severity and traits in both models. Thus, convergent validity metrics have been reported with various PD measures; however, the convergence of the same constructs included in the measures of these two models remains undefined. The objective of the present review was to examine whether there is a sufficient relationship between PD measures of the ICD-11 and DSM-5 AMPD in the general population. For this meta-analytic review, systematic searches were conducted in Web of Science, PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar. We included studies that reported Pearson's r correlations without restrictions on language, age, sex, setting, type of sample, or informant of the measures. We excluded associations with anankastia, psychoticism or the borderline pattern because they were not comparable between one dimensional model and the other. We examined the quality of the evidence with the JBI Critical Appraisal Checklist for Analytical Cross Sectional Studies, and performed the random effects meta-analysis with the 'meta' package of the RStudio software. Of the 5,629 results returned by the search, 16 studies were eligible; and showed moderate quality. The risk of bias was manifested by not specifying the details of the sample, the recruitment environment, and the identification and control of confounding factors. Thirteen studies provided two or more correlations resulting in a total of 54 studies for meta-analysis. The overall effect size estimate (correlation) was moderate for the overall model (r = 0.62, 95% CI [0.57, 0.67], p < 0.0001, I2 = 97.6%). For the subgroup of associations, ICD-11 severity model and DSM-5 AMPD severity model, the correlation was also moderate (k = 10, r = 0.57, 95% CI [0.48; 0.66]; I2 = 92.9%); as for the subgroup of associations, ICD-11 traits model and DSM-5 AMPD traits model (k = 44, r = 0.63, 95% CI [0.57; 0.69], I2 = 97.9%). The convergent validity between measures of PD severity and traits between one diagnostic system and another has been demonstrated in this review and they can probably be used interchangeably because they also measure the same constructs. Aims: Constipation is a common gastrointestinal disorder that is associated with a high cardiovascular event rate in the general population. Although constipation is common in patients with cardiovascular diseases, only a few studies have examined the relationship between constipation and the prognosis of patients with heart failure. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of constipation on the prognosis of patients with acute heart failure. Methods and results: We investigated 397 patients admitted to our hospital from December 2020 to December 2022 with acute heart failure (mean age, 81 ± 13 years; 54% men). Patients with constipation were defined as those either taking laxatives regularly or diagnosed with constipation according to the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems. During the follow‐up periods (median, 173 days), 35 patients died, and 74 experienced readmission due to heart failure. Kaplan–Meier analysis before and after propensity score matching using 14 variables revealed that the risk of readmission due to heart failure was significantly higher in patients with constipation than in those without (before: log‐rank P = 0.014, after: log‐rank P = 0.0027). The adjusted Cox proportional hazards analysis revealed that the hazard ratio for readmission due to heart failure was 2.61 (95% confidence interval, 1.38–4.94, P = 0.0032). The risk of all‐cause death was not significantly different between the two groups (hazard ratio, 1.76; 95% confidence interval, 0.61–5.06; P = 0.30). A study published in the journal Paediatric & Perinatal Epidemiology examined the accuracy of ICD-10 codes for placenta accreta spectrum (PAS) in a single referral center from 2015 to 2020. Out of 22,345 deliveries, only 51 cases had a histopathologic diagnosis of PAS, indicating a high rate of false positive cases. Inaccurate data on PAS incidence can make it difficult to understand the true scope of the problem and identify risk factors. False positive results can lead to suboptimal screening and treatment, while misclassification can dilute the magnitude of risk factors and lead to unnecessary referrals and increased costs. Objective: Traumatic experiences are a significant risk factor for psychological disturbances, including disorders such as complex posttraumatic stress disorder, emotion-processing problems, and trauma-related dissociative experiences. The present investigation examined the coexistence of these symptoms using a network analysis model. Method: This study included a sample of 406 people referred to comprehensive health centers in Tehran from September to December 2023 with psychopathological syndromes. Variables were assessed using The International Trauma Questionnaire, International Measurement of Exposure to Traumatic Event checklist, Baker Emotional Processing Questionnaire, and Dissociative Experiences. A regularized partial correlation network and Glasso algorithm, in combination with Extended Bayesian information criteria, were applied to estimate the network structure. Results: Signs of unprocessed emotions and disturbance in self-organization symptoms were the most important symptoms in the symptom network, forming strong connections with other nodes. Thereby, these two symptoms can be regarded as the most important clinical manifestations in the symptom network following traumatic experiences. Three distinct symptom communities were identified: the community of traumatic experiences (childhood, adolescence, adulthood), the community of dissociative experiences (amnesia, depersonalization/derealization, and absorption), and the community of emotional processing (suppression, unpleasant emotional experience, Signs of unprocessed emotions, avoidance, and emotional control, posttraumatic stress disorder symptoms and disturbance in self-organization symptoms). The strongest edges observed were between childhood trauma-adolescence trauma (0.473) in the community of traumatic experiences, between amnesia and depersonalization/derealization (0.644) in the community of dissociative experiences, and between disturbance in self-organization symptoms and unprocessed emotions (0.324) in the community of emotional processing, indicating the recurrent occurrence of these symptoms. Conclusion: In this study, disturbance in self-organization symptoms was identified as the central psychopathologic symptom in individuals experiencing traumas at different developmental stages. It seems that adolescent trauma and not childhood trauma plays a more decisive role in the symptoms that a person manifests after traumatic experiences. Also, posttraumatic stress disorder symptoms and disturbance in self-organization symptoms were recognized in the cluster of emotional processing symptoms and can have substantial roles in prioritizing therapeutic measures. Despite the similar clinical features of Olfactory Reference Disorder (ORD) and Social Phobia (SP), or studies showing elevated comorbidity of the two disorders, and the conceptualization of ORD as a form of SP in the East Asian culture, to our knowledge, the relationship between ORD and SP has not been investigated. This study examined the association of ORD according to the 11th revision of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11) and SP in 225 German university / college students who completed self-ratings with regard to socio-demographic data and symptoms of SP and ORD within an anonymous internet-based survey. Symptoms of SP were assessed with the Social Phobia Inventory (SPIN). Symptoms of ORD according to the ICD-11 were assessed with the Olfactory Reference Disorder Questionnaire (ORDQ), developed for this study. In our sample, 86.6% of the participants who met the self-rated features for ORD also met the self-rated criteria for current SP. ORD severity scores were significantly related to SP. Participants with and without self-reported ORD differed significantly in their SP total scores. SP severity was also significantly correlated with poorer insight of ORD-related beliefs, greater ORD-related avoidance of intimate relationships and higher levels of shame and fear of rejection due to body odor. These preliminary findings indicate that ORD could be closely related to SP and highlight the need for future research on the relationship of ORD and SP in order to gain a better understanding of the development, maintenance, treatment and classification of ORD. Personality disorders (PDs) are associated with an inferior quality of life, poor health, and premature mortality, leading to heavy clinical, familial, and societal burdens. The International Classification of Diseases-11 (ICD-11) makes a thorough, dramatic paradigm shift from the categorical to dimensional diagnosis of PD and expands the application into adolescence. We have reviewed the recent literature on practical implications, and severity and trait measures of ICD-11 defined PDs, by comparing with the alternative model of personality disorders in the fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5), by mentioning the relevance in forensic and social concerns, and by referencing the developmental implication of life span, especially in adolescence. Study results strongly support the dimensional utility of ICD-11 PD diagnosis and application in adolescence which warrants early detection and intervention. More evidence-based research is needed along the ICD-11 PD application, such as its social relevance, measurement simplification, and longitudinal design of lifespan observation and treatment.
