Dyslipidemia is a major contributor to the development of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. Despite high level of physical activity, athletes are not immune from dyslipidemia, but longitudinal data on the variation of lipids are currently lacking. We sought to assess lipid profile changes over time in Olympic athletes practicing different sports disciplines (power, skills, endurance, and mixed). We enrolled 957 consecutive athletes evaluated from London 2012 to Beijing 2022 Olympic Games. Dyslipidemia was defined as low-density lipoprotein (LDL) ≥115 mg/dl, high-density lipoprotein (HDL) <40 mg/dl for males, or HDL <50 mg/dl for females. Hypertriglyceridemia was defined as triglycerides >150 mg/dl. At the follow-up, a variation of ±40 mg/dl for LDL, ±6 mg/dl for HDL, and ±50 mg/dl for triglycerides was considered relevant. Athletes with follow-up <10 months or taking lower lipid agents were excluded. Follow-up was completed in 717 athletes (74.9%), with a mean duration of 55.6 months. Mean age was 27.2 ± 4.8 years old, 54.6% were male (n = 392). Overall, 19.8% (n = 142) athletes were dyslipidemic at both blood tests, being older, practicing nonendurance sports, and predominantly male. In 69.3% (n = 129) of those with elevated LDL at t0, altered values were confirmed at follow-up, while the same occurred in 36.5% (n = 15) with hypo-HDL and 5.3% (n = 1) in those with elevated triglycerides. Weight and fat mass percentage modifications did not affect lipid profile variation. LDL hypercholesterolemia tends to persist over time especially among male, older, and nonendurance athletes. AbstractVarious pharmacokinetic changes have been reported in experimental hyperlipidemic (HL) animal models. To evaluate whether P-glycoprotein (P-gp) activity was affected in HL rats, we assessed the pharmacokinetics of dabigatran after oral administration of dabigatran etexilate (DABE); this is a dabigatran prodrug and a well-known P-gp substrate.HL and control rats exhibited similar area under the plasma concentration-time curve (AUC), total body clearance (CL), and steady state volume of distribution (Vss) values following intravenous administration of dabigatran (1 mg/kg). This suggested that the distribution and elimination of dabigatran were similar in control and HL rats.The hepatic and intestinal P-gp protein levels did not differ significantly between control and HL rats. The dabigatran AUC and extent of absolute oral bioavailability (F) values were similar in control and HL rats following oral administration of DABE (10 mg/kg as dabigatran). Therefore, there was no apparent change in intestinal P-gp activity in HL rats compared to control rats.This study revealed no significant change in P-gp expression or activity in the intestine or liver of HL rats, and similar pharmacokinetics of dabigatran. BACKGROUND RESULTS CONCLUSION Ginseng‐Douchi (GD) is a complex fermented product of ginseng and soybean, similar to natto, and is effective in the treatment of hyperlipidemia, but the mechanism of action involved needs to be further explored.The present study combines a comprehensive strategy of network pharmacology and metabolomics to explore the lipid‐lowering mechanism of GD. First, a hyperlipidemia rats model induced by a high‐fat diet was established to evaluate the therapeutic effects of GD. Second, potential biomarkers were identified using serum metabolomics and metabolic pathway analysis was performed with MetaboAnalyst. Third, network pharmacology is used to find potential therapeutic targets based on the blood‐influencing components of GD. Finally, core targets were obtained through a target–metabolite and the enrichment analysis of biomarkers–genes. Biochemistry analysis showed that GD exerted hypolipidemic effects on hyperlipidemic rats. Nineteen potential biomarkers for the GD treatment of hyperlipidemia were identified by metabolomics, which was mainly involved in linoleic acid metabolism, glycerophospholipid metabolism, ether lipid metabolism, alpha‐linolenic acid metabolism and glycosylphosphatidylinositol‐anchor biosynthesis. GD had a callback function for ether lipid metabolism and glycerophospholipid metabolism pathways. Eighteen blood components were identified in serum, associated with 85 potential therapeutic targets. The joint analysis showed that three core therapeutic targets were regulated by GD, including PIK3CA, AKT1 and EGFR.This study combines serum medicinal chemistry of traditional Chinese medicine, network pharmacology and metabolomics to reveal the regulatory mechanism of GD on hyperlipidemia. © 2024 Society of Chemical Industry. Hyperlipidemia presents a significant global healthcare challenge, necessitating innovative therapeutic strategies for more effective outcomes. Recent studies have highlighted the beneficial impact of moderate beer intake on metabolic diseases. The purpose of this research is to explore the possible molecular mechanisms of isoxanthohumol (IXN), the major hop flavonoid in beer, in the treatment of hyperlipidemia. The mice model of acute hyperlipidemia was constructed by intraperitoneal injection of Triton WR‐1339. The therapeutic effect of IXN was assessed by biochemical and histological analyses. Furthermore, comprehensive data mining across various public databases was conducted to identify underlying therapeutic targets of IXN on hyperlipidemia. A protein–protein interaction network was constructed to pinpoint hub targets, and subsequent GO and KEGG enrichment analyses were used to elucidate underlying biological functions. Molecular docking was utilized to validate the binding affinity between hub targets and IXN. Western blotting analysis further verified the protein expression of potential IXN targets. IXN administration significantly improved blood lipid and hepatic lipid levels, alongside increased SOD activity and decreased MDA content in hyperlipidemia mice. Histological analyses, including H&E and Oil Red O staining, showed the improvement of hepatic steatosis with IXN treatment. At the molecular level, IXN significantly increased protein levels of p‐AMPK, PPARα, p‐PI3K, and p‐AKT. IXN activates AMPK/PPARα and PI3K/AKT signaling pathways, leading to reduction in lipid accumulation and oxidative stress, and ultimately ameliorating hyperlipidemia. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Elevated lipoprotein (Lp(a)) levels are associated with increased risk of atherosclerotic processes and cardiovascular events in adults. The amount of Lp(a) is mainly genetically determined. Therefore, it is important to identify individuals with elevated Lp(a) as early as possible, particularly if other cardiovascular risk factors are present. The purpose of the study was to investigate whether, in a population of children and adolescents already followed for the presence of one or more cardiovascular risk factors (elevated blood pressure (BP), and/or excess body weight, and/or dyslipidemia), the measurement of Lp(a) can be useful for better stratifying their risk profile. Methods: In a sample of 195 children and adolescents, height, body weight, waist circumference and systolic (SBP) and diastolic (DBP) BP were measured. Body Mass Index (BMI) and SBP and DBP z-scores were calculated. Plasma Lp(a), total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein (HDL), triglycerides, glucose, insulin, uric acid and creatinine were assessed. Low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol was calculated with the Friedewald formula. High Lp(a) was defined as ≥ 75 nmol/L and high LDL cholesterol as ≥ 3.37 mmol/L. Results: Our sample of children and adolescents (54.4% males, mean age 11.5 years) had median LDL cholesterol and Lp(a) values equal to 2.54 (interquartile range, IQR: 2.07–3.06) mmol/L and 22 (IQR: 7.8–68.6) nmol/L respectively. 13.8% of children had LDL cholesterol ≥ 3.37 mmol/L and 22.6 Lp(a) values ≥ 75 nmol/L. Lp(a) values were higher in children of normal weight than in those with excess weight (p = 0.007), but the difference disappeared if normal weight children referred for dyslipidemia only were excluded from the analysis (p = 0.210). 69.4% of children had normal Lp(a) and LDL cholesterol values and only 6.2% showed both elevated Lp(a) and LDL cholesterol levels. However, 16.6% of the sample, despite having normal LDL cholesterol, had elevated Lp(a) values. Multivariable analyses showed a significant association of LDL cholesterol both with Lp(a) values, and with the presence of elevated Lp(a) levels. For each mmol/L increase in LDL cholesterol the risk of having an elevated Lp(a) value increased by 73%. There was an inverse correlation between BMI z-score and Lp(a). Neither BP z-scores, nor other biochemical parameters were associated with Lp(a). Conclusions: In our population more than one out of five children had elevated Lp(a) values, and in about 17% of children elevated Lp(a) values were present in the absence of increased LDL cholesterol. Our results suggest that Lp(a) measurement can be useful to better define the cardiovascular risk profile in children and adolescents already followed for the presence of other cardiovascular risk factors such as elevated BP, excess body weight and high LDL cholesterol. Objective: This study aimed to reveal the role and mechanism of MG-132 in delaying hyperlipidemia-induced senescence of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs). Methods: Immunohistochemistry and hematoxylin-eosin staining confirmed the therapeutic effect of MG-132 on arterial senescence in vivo and its possible mechanism. Subsequently, VSMCs were treated with sodium palmitate (PA), an activator (Recilisib) or an inhibitor (Pictilisib) to activate or inhibit PI3K, and CCK-8 and EdU staining, wound healing assays, Transwell cell migration assays, autophagy staining assays, reactive oxygen species assays, senescence-associated β-galactosidase staining, and Western blotting were performed to determine the molecular mechanism by which MG-132 inhibits VSMC senescence. Validation of the interaction between MG-132 and PI3K using molecular docking. Results: Increased expression of p-PI3K, a key protein of the autophagy regulatory system, and decreased expression of the autophagy-associated proteins Beclin 1 and ULK1 were observed in the aortas of C57BL/6J mice fed a high-fat diet (HFD), and autophagy was inhibited in aortic smooth muscle. MG-132 inhibits atherosclerosis by activating autophagy in VSMCs to counteract PA-induced cell proliferation, migration, oxidative stress, and senescence, thereby inhibiting VSMC senescence in the aorta. This process is achieved through the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway. Conclusion: MG-132 activates autophagy by inhibiting the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway, thereby inhibiting palmitate-induced proliferation, migration, and oxidative stress in vascular smooth muscle cells and suppressing their senescence. Introduction: High density lipoproteins (HDL) exert cardiovascular protection in part through their antioxidant capacity and cholesterol efflux function. Effects of exercise training on HDL function are yet to be well established, while impact on triacylglycerol (TG)-lowering has been often reported. Wepreviously showed that a short-term high-intensity interval training (HIIT) program improves insulin sensitivity but does not inhibit inflammatory pathways in immune cells in insulin-resistant subjects. The purpose of this study is to evaluate HDL function along with changes of lipoproteins after the short-term HIIT program in lean, obese nondiabetic, and obese type 2 diabetic (T2DM) subjects. Methods: All individuals underwent a supervised 15-day program of alternative HIIT for 40 minutes per day. VO2peak was determined before and after this training program. A pre-training fasting blood sample was collected, and the post-training fasting blood sample collection was performed 36 hours after the last exercise session. Results: Blood lipid profile and HDL function were analyzed before and after the HIIT program. Along with improved blood lipid profiles in obese and T2DM subjects, the HIIT program affected circulating apolipoprotein amounts differently. The HIIT program increased HDL-cholesterol levels and improved the cholesterol efflux capacity only in lean subjects. Furthermore, the HIIT program improved the antioxidant capacity of HDL in all subjects. Data from multiple logistic regression analysis showed that changes in HDL antioxidant capacity were inversely associated with changes in atherogenic lipids and changes in HDL-TG content. Discussion: We show that a short-term HIIT program improves aspects of HDL function depending on metabolic contexts, which correlates with improvements in blood lipid profile. Lipids interfere with absorbance measurements conducted using colorimetric methods. To monitor lipemia, some systems measure absorbance using an analyzer. This report describes a novel case of interference with the lipemia index without lipemia. A 64-year-old woman with giant basal cell carcinoma underwent resection and sentinel lymph node biopsy. The patient had been subcutaneously injected with patent blue during sentinel lymph node resection. After surgery, her serum and urine were yellow-green, and the lipemia index, calculated by measuring absorbance at 658 nm (main wavelength) and 694 nm (secondary wavelength) using a JCA-BM8040 chemistry analyzer, was high. The absorbance spectrum of the patient's serum and patent blue solution were compared to determine the cause of the high lipemia index. The patient's serum and the patent blue solution showed absorption at wavelengths between 540 and 698 nm. Moreover, the absorbance was concentration-dependent for patent blue. These results thus indicated that the patient's serum contained patent blue. Here, we report a case wherein patent blue affected the lipemia index. Objective To develop a machine learning-based prediction model for identifying hyperuricemic participants at risk of developing gout. Methods A retrospective nationwide Israeli cohort study used the Clalit Health Insurance database of 473 124 individuals to identify adults 18 years or older with at least two serum urate measurements exceeding 6.8 mg/dl between January 2007 and December 2022. Patients with a prior gout diagnosis or on gout medications were excluded. Patients' demographic characteristics, community and hospital diagnoses, routine medication prescriptions and laboratory results were used to train a risk prediction model. A machine learning model, XGBoost, was developed to predict the risk of gout. Feature selection methods were used to identify relevant variables. The model's performance was evaluated using the receiver operating characteristic area under the curve (ROC AUC) and precision-recall AUC. The primary outcome was the diagnosis of gout among hyperuricemic patients. Results Among the 301 385 participants with hyperuricemia included in the analysis, 15 055 (5%) were diagnosed with gout. The XGBoost model had a ROC-AUC of 0.781 (95% CI 0.78–0.784) and precision-recall AUC of 0.208 (95% CI 0.195–0.22). The most significant variables associated with gout diagnosis were serum uric acid levels, age, hyperlipidemia, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and diuretic purchases. A compact model using only these five variables yielded a ROC-AUC of 0.714 (95% CI 0.706–0.723) and a negative predictive value (NPV) of 95%. Conclusions The findings of this cohort study suggest that a machine learning-based prediction model had relatively good performance and high NPV for identifying hyperuricemic participants at risk of developing gout. Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the associations between dietary diversity and risk of dyslipidemia in Japanese workers. Methods: The cross-sectional study included 1399 participants aged 20–63 years and the longitudinal study included 751 participants aged 20–60 years in 2012–2013 (baseline) who participated at least once from 2013 to 2017 with cumulative participation times of 4.9 times. Dietary intake was assessed using a food frequency questionnaire, and dietary diversity score (DDS) was determined using the Quantitative Index for Dietary Diversity. Dyslipidemia was diagnosed when at least one of the following conditions was met: hypertriglyceridemia, high LDL-cholesterol, low HDL-cholesterol, high non-HDL-cholesterol, and a history of dyslipidemia. Multivariable logistic regression was used to calculate the odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for dyslipidemia with control of confounding factors in cross-sectional analysis. Generalized estimating equations were used for calculating the ORs (95% CI) for dyslipidemia in the follow-up period according to the DDS at baseline with control of confounding factors in longitudinal analysis. Results: Cross-sectional analysis showed that the highest DDS reduced the odds of dyslipidemia in men (OR [95% CI] in Tertile 3: 0.67 [0.48–0.95], p value = 0.023). In longitudinal analysis, a moderate DDS reduced the risk of dyslipidemia (OR [95% CI] in Tertile 2: 0.21 [0.07–0.60], p value = 0.003) in women. Conclusions: The results of cross-sectional analysis in this study suggest that the higher diversity of diet might reduce the presence of dyslipidemia in men and the results of longitudinal analysis suggest that a moderate DDS might reduce the risk of dyslipidemia in women. This scoping review aims to identify and synthesize the available literature describing the use of the gender approach in research and nursing clinical practice related to hypertension. The review was conducted following the scoping review framework recommended by Arksey and O'Malley. Elements related to content were chosen following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR). Data were extracted using a predesigned table and were presented narratively after the content analysis. The PubMed, CINAHL, Web of Science, PsycINFO, Cochrane, Scopus, ScienceDirect and ERIC databases were consulted between March 2022 and June 2024. Reference lists from all sources and gray literature were also reviewed to identify additional publications. A total of 18 studies were finally included in this scoping review. Most of the studies (83 percent) represent gender as a biological variable (sex), and only a few of them (22 percent) analyzed psychological or social differences. In addition, several studies include unequal representations of each sex, most of them use the terms "sex" and "gender" as incorrect or interchangeable, which makes it difficult to evaluate the results from a gender perspective. There is still a substantial gap in the literature related to nurses' intervention with a gender approach in patients with hypertension. Future studies should focus on improving health interventions by considering gender to improve equality and efficiency in health outcomes associated with hypertension and other cardiovascular risk factors. The article describes the case of a 79-year old Caucasian man who was treated with donepezil after developing a pruritic erythematous maculopapular eruption at the application site of rivastigmine transdermal patches, which was used to treat his Lewy body disease. The patient's skin lesions did not regress after antihistaminic treatment with cetirizine. A Naranjo scale assessment showed the high probability of the relation of cutaneous adverse effects with rivastigmine transdermal patches.

• Metabolic syndrome or cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic (CKM) syndrome is a growing epidemic affecting more than one-fourth of the general population with increasing prevalence rates over the years. • Activation of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system, sympathetic nervous system, elevated leptin levels, mitochondrial dysfunction, oxidative stress, and pro-inflammatory cytokines are the major causes of renal dysfunction in patients with CKM syndrome. • Despite high rates of chronic kidney disease among patients with CKM syndrome, such patients are less likely to undergo kidney transplantation. • Post-transplant CKM syndrome is a complex pathological entity related to pre-transplant risk factors and patient status, immunosuppressive regimens, and infectious diseases. Such condition is associated with poor patient and allograft outcomes. Cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic (CKM) syndrome and chronic kidney disease (CKD) are two significant comorbidities affecting a large proportion of the general population with considerable crosstalk. In addition to substantial co-incidence of CKD and CKM syndrome in epidemiological studies, clinical and pre-clinical studies have identified similar pathophysiological pathways leading to both entities. Patients with CKM syndrome are more prone to develop acute kidney injury and CKD, while therapeutic alternatives and their success rates are considerably lower in such patient groups. Nevertheless, the association between CKM syndrome and CKD or ESKD is bidirectional rather than being a cause-effect relationship as patients with CKD are also prone to develop peripheral insulin resistance, high blood pressure, and dyslipidemia. Furthermore, such patients are less likely to receive kidney transplantation in addition to the higher allograft dysfunction risk. We hereby aim to evaluate the association in-between kidney diseases and CKM syndrome, including epidemiological data, pre-clinical studies with pathophysiological pathways, and potential therapeutic perspectives. Background: Dyslipidemia is an important and modifiable risk factor for CVD in children with CKD. Methods: In a cross-sectional study of baseline serum lipid levels in a large prospective cohort study of children with stage 3–5 (predialysis) CKD, frequencies of abnormal lipid levels and types of dyslipidemia were analyzed in the entire cohort and in subpopulations defined by fasting status or by the presence of nephrotic range proteinuria. Associated clinical and laboratory characteristics were determined by multivariable linear regression analysis. Results: A total of 681 patients aged 12.2 ± 3.3 years with a mean eGFR of 26.9 ± 11.6 ml/min/1.73 m2 were included. Kidney diagnosis was classified as CAKUT in 69%, glomerulopathy in 8.4%, and other disorders in 22.6% of patients. Nephrotic range proteinuria (defined by a urinary albumin/creatinine ratio > 1.1 g/g) was present in 26.9%. Dyslipidemia was found in 71.8%, and high triglyceride (TG) levels were the most common abnormality (54.7%). Fasting status (38.9%) had no effect on dyslipidemia status. Except for a significant increase in TG in more advanced CKD, lipid levels and frequencies of dyslipidemia were not significantly different between CKD stages. Hypertriglyceridemia was associated with younger age, lower eGFR, shorter duration of CKD, higher body mass index (BMI-SDS), lower serum albumin, and higher diastolic blood pressure. Conclusions: Dyslipidemia involving all lipid fractions, but mainly TG, is present in the majority of patients with CKD irrespective of CKD stage or fasting status and is significantly associated with other cardiovascular risk factors. Lichen planus (LP), an idiopathic, multifaceted chronic inflammatory disease with a heterogeneous clinical presentation, affects approximately 0.5–1% of the population. The various clinical manifestations of LP fall into three broad categories, namely cutaneous, appendageal, and mucosal, with further subclassification depending on the morphology and distribution patterns of individual lesions. There is mounting evidence that LP has systemic associations, including autoimmune conditions, glucose intolerance, dyslipidemia, and cardiovascular disorders. Cutaneous hypertrophic and mucosal forms of LP are at a heightened risk for malignant transformation. Familiarity with these potential associations in conjunction with long-term follow-up and regular screening could lead to a timely diagnosis and management of concomitant conditions. In addition, the frequent quality of life (QoL) impairment in LP underscores the need for a comprehensive approach including psychological evaluation and support. Several treatment strategies have been attempted, though most of them have not been adopted in clinical practice because of suboptimal benefit-to-risk ratios or lack of evidence. More recent studies toward pathogenesis-driven treatments have identified Janus kinase inhibitors such as tofacitinib, phosphodiesterase-4 inhibitors such as apremilast, and biologics targeting the interleukin-23/interleukin-17 pathway as novel therapeutic options, resulting in a dramatic change of the treatment landscape of LP. Pilot tends to have a high prevalence of dyslipidemia. The present study aimed to identify key factors of pilot hyperlipidemia through thorough analysis of physical examination data, and to provide pilot-targeted health guidance to manage hyperlipidemia risks. The physical examination data of 1,253 pilot inpatients from January 2019 to June 2022, were evaluated and divided into two groups based on whether or not the pilot had hyperlipidemia. A total of three multivariate analysis models including logistic model, multilevel model and boosting propensity score were applied to find the risk factors of pilot hyperlipidemia. In the group of pilots with hyperlipidemia, four risk factors, including thrombin time, carbohydrate antigen 199, lymphocyte count and rheumatoid factor, were significantly different from pilots without hyperlipidemia, which might be positively associated with the incidence of hyperlipidemia. In future studies regarding pilots, whether hyperlipidemia is connected to abnormalities in thrombin time, carbohydrate antigen 199 and rheumatoid factor should be further explored. Based on the findings of the present study, pilot health management should be more refined and personalized, and attention should be paid to the risk factors of hyperlipidemia including diet and lifestyle. This study aims to report the patients' associated factors related to the study cohort. This is a retrospective hospital-based cohort study that recruited 503 elderly patients (>55 years) with stroke from a tertiary rehabilitation center. Data were collected through a pre-designed case report form, and stroke was classified according to Data on Trial of Org 10172 in Acute Stroke Treatment (TOAST) classification. There was a female predominance at a rate of 52.9% and a significant co-morbidity related to diabetes, hyperlipidemia, and hypertension in addition to cardiac disease. The ischemic stroke affected 84.7% of the studied sample. The univariate analysis reported that male gender, diabetes, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia were not associated with an increased risk of non-ischemic stroke, while obesity showed a paradoxical reduction in the risk of stroke. Introduction Thirdhand smoke (THS) is associated with many public health and disease concerns, such as respiratory illness, cancer, lipidemia, and cardiovascular disease (CVD). We have previously shown that a moderate to long-term exposure to THS increases the risk of thrombosis. However, whether short-term exposure to THS would produce any effects remains to be discovered. Therefore, this study investigated the impact of 1-month THS exposure on platelet function, in vivo and in vitro, and on cytokine response, in a sex-dependent manner. Aims and Methods Secondhand smoke or clean air (CA) exposed upholstery materials for 1 week were kept in cages housed with 5–6 mice, and the procedure was repeated for 4 weeks. These THS-exposed mice were evaluated for thrombogenesis and platelet function assays. In addition, cytokines expression was evaluated from pooled serum. Results Compared to the CA group, THS exposure significantly shortened the tail bleeding time and carotid artery thrombus formation. Moreover, the female mice appeared more sensitive to THS exposure than males. Furthermore, platelet aggregation, dense granule secretion, and P-selectin activation markers were significantly elevated due to THS exposure. In addition, high-throughput screening showed at least 30 cytokines differentially modulated by THS in females relative to 26 in male mice. Conclusions Collectively, these results demonstrate that 1 month of THS exposure represents a high health risk, in part, by triggering a prothrombotic phenotype that appears to be more significant in females, who are at a much higher risk for occlusive CVD. Additionally, changes in cytokine levels mediate some of the THS-induced occlusive effects. Implications This study revealed that THS exposure for 1 month is detrimental to the cardiovascular health of both sexes; however, females could be more aggressively affected than males. Given prior literature focused on the Developmental Origins of Health and Disease framework, there is strong rationale to hypothesize that reducing depression in the prenatal period will cause improvements in offspring cardiometabolic health. The current review outlines evidence that prenatal depression is associated with offspring cardiometabolic risk and health behaviors. We review evidence of these associations in humans and in nonhuman animals at multiple developmental periods, from the prenatal period (maternal preeclampsia, gestational diabetes), neonatal period (preterm birth, small size at birth), infancy (rapid weight gain), childhood and adolescence (high blood pressure, impaired glucose–insulin homeostasis, unfavorable lipid profiles, abdominal obesity), and into adulthood (diabetes, cardiovascular disease). In addition to these cardiometabolic outcomes, we focus on health behaviors associated with cardiometabolic risk, such as child eating behaviors, diet, physical activity, and sleep health. Our review focuses on child behaviors (e.g., emotional eating, preference for highly palatable foods, short sleep duration) and parenting behaviors (e.g., pressuring child to eat, modeling of health behaviors). These changes in health behaviors may be detected before changes to cardiometabolic outcomes, which may allow for early identification of and prevention for children at risk for poor adult cardiometabolic outcomes. We also discuss the methods of the ongoing Care Project, which is a randomized clinical trial to test whether reducing prenatal maternal depression improves offspring's cardiometabolic health and health behaviors in preschool. The goal of this review and the Care Project are to inform future research, interventions, and policies that support prenatal mental health and offspring cardiometabolic health. Public Significance Statement: Prenatal depression is pervasive and is associated with poorer offspring development and health. The current review synthesizes evidence of biological and behavioral pathways by which prenatal depression may influence offspring cardiometabolic health. There is a gap of knowledge about the clinical and pathophysiological implications resulting from the interaction between primary hyperlipidemias and type 2 diabetes (T2D). Most of the existing evidence comes from sub-analyses of cohorts; scant information derives from randomized clinical trials. The expected clinical implications of T2D in patients with primary hyperlipidemias is an escalation of their already high cardiovascular risk. There is a need to accurately identify patients with this dual burden and to adequately prescribe lipid-lowering therapies, with the current advancements in newer therapeutic options. This review provides an update on the interactions of primary hyperlipidemias, such as familial combined hyperlipidemia, familial hypercholesterolemia, multifactorial chylomicronemia, lipoprotein (a), and type 2 diabetes. To investigate the role of body mass index (BMI), serum lipid profile molecules and their derivative indexes in colorectal polyps. A total of 352 individuals who underwent colonoscopy at our center were included in this retrospective analysis. Of these, 247 patients without evident abnormalities (control group), while 105 patients diagnosed with colorectal polyps (patient group). Serum lipid profile molecules and their derivative indexes were then compared between the two groups. The patient group exhibited significantly higher levels of total cholesterol (TC) and apolipoprotein B (ApoB) compared to the control group (p<0.05). In males, the patient group displayed elevated levels of ApoB and ApoB/ApoA1 ratio compared to the control group (p<0.05). Additionally, the triglycerides (TG) and TG/high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C) ratios were significantly higher in the multiple polyps group than in the single polyp group (p<0.05). Furthermore, the HDL-C and HDL-C/ApoA1 ratio levels were higher in the adenomatous polyp group when compared to the non-adenomatous polyp group (p<0.05). Multiple logistic regression analysis indicated that total cholesterol (TC), TG, low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-C), TC/HDL-C ratio, TG/HDL-C ratio and LDL-C/HDL-C ratio were risk factors for the occurrence of colorectal polyps (p<0.05). ROC curve analyses revealed that TC, ApoB, and ApoB/ApoA1 ratio were associated with colorectal polyps. No significant difference in BMI between the two groups (p>0.05). The incidence and progression of colorectal polyps are linked to serum lipid molecules and their derivative indexes. Type-1 IFN (interferon)-associated innate immune response is increasingly getting attention in neurodegenerative and metabolic diseases like type 2 diabetes (T2DM). However, its significance in T2DM/lipotoxicity-induced neuroglia changes and cognitive impairment is missing. The present study aims to evaluate the involvement of cGAS (cyclic GMP-AMP synthase)-STING (stimulator of interferon gene), IRF3 (interferon regulatory factor-3), TBK (TANK binding kinase)-mediated Type-1 IFN response in the diabetic brain, and lipotoxicity (palmitate-bovine serum albumin conjugate/PA-BSA)-induced changes in cells (neuro2a and BV2). T2DM was induced in C57/BL6 mice by feeding on a high-fat diet (HFD, 60% Kcal) for 16 weeks and injecting a single dose of streptozotocin (100 mg/kg, i.p) in the 12th week. Plasma biochemical parameter analysis, neurobehavioral assessment, protein expression, and quantitative polymerase chain reaction study were carried out to decipher the hypothesis. T2DM-associated metabolic and lipotoxic stress led to mitochondrial impairment causing leakage of mtDNA to the cytoplasm further commencing cGAS activation and its downstream signaling. The diseased hippocampus and cortex showed decreased expression of synaptophysin (p < 0.01) and PSD-95 (p < 0.01, p < 0.05) with increased expression of cGAS (p < 0.001), p-STING (p < 0.001), p-STAT1 (signal transducer and activator of transcription) (p < 0.01), and IFN-β (p < 0.001) compared to normal control. The IFN-β/p-STAT1-mediated microglia activation was executed employing a conditioned media approach. C-176, a selective STING inhibitor, alleviated cGAS/p-STING/IFN-β expression and proinflammatory microglia/M1-associated markers (CD16 expression, CXCL10, TNF-α, IL-1β mRNA fold change) in the diabetic brain. The present study suggests Type-1IFN response may result in neuroglia dyshomeostasis affecting normal brain function. Introduction and purpose : Type 2 diabetes is currently a serious problem worldwide. Each year, the number of individuals with carbohydrate metabolism disorders is increasing. This is due to an unhealthy lifestyle, lack of physical activity, and a diet rich in highly processed foods. Currently, the treatment of type 2 diabetes is based on the use of oral antidiabetic medications, with the first choice often being a derivative of biguanides, such as metformin. Berberine has been used in China for many years as a hypoglycemic agent, and its efficacy is compared to metformin preparations. This paper focuses on the benefits of using berberine in patients with prediabetes or type 2 diabetes and compares the effects of berberine preparations to classical medications used in diabetes treatment. Material and methods : The literaue was reviewed in PubMed and Google Scholar scientific database in 2013-2023 using the following keywords : berberine, diabetes mellitus type 2, hyperlipidemia, hyperglicemia. Conclusions : The studies included in this manuscript have shown that berberine is a promising agent for adjunctive treatment in type 2 diabetes. It exhibits a range of positive effects such as lowering blood glucose levels, improving lipid profile, with no serious adverse effects reported. Background: Inadequate glycemic management in type 2 diabetes Mellitus patients is a serious public health issue and a key risk factor for progression as well as diabetes-related complications. The main therapeutic goal of preventing organ damage and other problems caused by diabetes is glycemic control. Knowing when to modify glycemic control in type 2 diabetes Mellitus is crucial for avoiding complications and early drug intensifications. Methods: An institutional based retrospective follow-up study was undertaken among 514 eligible adult diabetes patients in Amhara region Comprehensive Specialized Hospitals, Northwest Ethiopia, from January 2017 to January 2022. Simple random sampling technique was used to select study participants. The Kaplan Meier curve was used to assess the survival status of categorical variables, and the log-rank test was used to compare them. The cox proportional hazard model was fitted to identify the predictors of time to first optimal glycemic control. Variables with a p-value < 0.05 were considered to be statistically significance at 95% confidence interval. Results: A total of 514 patient records (227 males and 287 females) were reviewed in this study. The median time to first optimal glycemic control among the study population was 8.4 months IQR (7.6–9.7). The predictors that affect the time to first optimal glycemic control were age group ((AHR = 0.63, 95% CI = 0.463, 0.859 for 50–59 years), (AHR = 0.638, 95% CI = 0.471, 0.865 for 60–69 years), and (AHR = 0.480, 95% CI = 0.298, 0.774 for > = 70 years)), diabetes neuropathy (AHR = 0.629, 95% CI = 0.441,0.900), hypertension (AHR = 0.667, 95% CI = 0.524, 0.848), dyslipidemia (AHR = 0.561, 95% CI = 0.410, 0.768), and cardiovascular disease (AHR = 0.681, 95% CI = 0.494, 0.938). Conclusion: The median time to initial optimal glycemic control in type 2 diabetes Mellitus patients in this study was short. Age between 50 and 59 years and 60–69, diabetes neuropathy, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and cardiovascular disease were predictor's of time to first glycemic control. Background: Amino acids are crucial for nutrition and metabolism, regulating metabolic pathways and activities vital to organismal health and stability. Glycine and histidine act as potent antioxidants and anti-inflammatory agents; however, limited knowledge exists regarding the associations between these amino acids and hyperlipidemia and hypertension. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between dietary glycine and histidine, and hyperlipidemia and hypertension. Methods: This population-based cross-sectional study evaluated the influence of dietary glycine and histidine, as well as their combined effect, on hyperlipidemia and hypertension in Chinese adults participating in the Nutrition Health Atlas Project (NHAP). General characteristics were acquired using a verified Internet-based Dietary Questionnaire for the Chinese. Binary logistic regression, along with gender, age groups, and median energy intake subgroup analyses, was employed to investigate the associations between dietary glycine and histidine and hyperlipidemia and hypertension. A sensitivity analysis was conducted to assess the impact of excluding individuals who smoke and consume alcohol on the results. Results: Based on the study's findings, 418 out of 1091 cases had hyperlipidemia, whereas 673 had hypertension. A significant inverse relationship was found between dietary glycine, histidine, and glycine + histidine and hyperlipidemia and hypertension. Compared with the 1st and 2nd tertiles, the multivariable-adjusted odd ratios (ORs) (95% confidence intervals) (CIs) of the 3rd tertile of dietary glycine for hyperlipidemia and hypertension were 0.64 (0.49–0.84) (p < 0.01) and 0.70 (0.56–0.88) (p < 0.001); histidine was 0.63 (0.49–0.82) (p < 0.01) and 0.80 (0.64–0.99) (p < 0.01); and glycine + histidine was 0.64 (0.49–0.83) (p < 0.01) and 0.74 (0.59–0.92) (p < 0.001), respectively. High glycine and high histidine (HGHH) intake were negatively associated with hyperlipidemia and hypertension OR (95% CIs) were: 0.71 (0.58–0.88) (p < 0.01) and 0.73 (0.61–0.87) (p < 0.01), respectively. Conclusions: Dietary glycine and histidine, as well as their HGHH group, revealed an inverse relationship with hyperlipidemia and hypertension. Gynostemma pentaphyllum, a traditional Chinese medicine, is widely used to treat various diseases, but its therapeutic effects and mechanisms of action on hyperlipidemia remain unclear. This study aims to investigate the effects of Danshen leaf on hyperlipidemia through network pharmacology, molecular docking, and cellular experiments, elucidating its multifaceted mechanism of action within the LOX1‐PI3K‐AKT‐eNOS pathway. First, the active ingredients and targets of G. pentaphyllum were screened using the Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology database. Then, targets for hyperlipidemia were identified using the OMIM and GeneCards databases, and potential therapeutic targets for G. pentaphyllum in treating hyperlipidemia were determined. An active ingredient‐target network was constructed using Cytoscape software, and a protein–protein interaction (PPI) network was built and visualized using the STRING database and Cytoscape software. Finally, GO functional and KEGG pathway enrichment analyses were performed, and the predicted mechanisms were validated through molecular docking and cell experiments. 85 targets for G. pentaphyllum and 1556 for Hyperlipidemia were screened, with 53 common targets. Twenty‐four active ingredients of G. pentaphyllum were found to be involved in the treatment of hyperlipidemia. Key nodes such as Rhamnazin, Isofucosterol, and quercetin, and targets NCOA2, NR3C2, PGR, and PPARG showed high relevance. In the PPI network, 8 nodes, including IL6, PPARG, and VEGFA, exhibited high centrality. GO functional and KEGG pathway enrichment analyses indicated that G. pentaphyllum may treat hyperlipidemia by influencing various biological functions and pathways, such as DNA‐binding transcription factor binding, RNA polymerase II‐specific DNA‐binding transcription factor binding, and lipid and atherosclerosis. Cell experiments demonstrated that G. pentaphyllum significantly regulated the expression of key proteins in the LOX1‐PI3K‐AKT‐eNOS pathway, thereby improving hyperlipidemia. G. pentaphyllum improves hyperlipidemia by mediating the LOX1‐PI3K‐AKT‐eNOS pathway. A global obesity pandemic is one of the most significant health threats worldwide owing to its close association with numerous comorbidities such as type 2 diabetes mellitus, arterial hypertension, dyslipidemia, heart failure, cancer and many others. Obesity and its comorbidities lead to a higher rate of cardiovascular complications, heart failure and increased cardiovascular and overall mortality. Bariatric surgery is at present the most potent therapy for obesity, inducing a significant weight loss in the majority of patients. In the long-term, a substantial proportion of patients after bariatric surgery experience a gradual weight regain that may, in some, reach up to a presurgical body weight. As a result, anti-obesity pharmacotherapy may be needed in some patients after bariatric surgery to prevent the weight regain or to further potentiate weight loss. This article provides an overview of the use of anti-obesity medications as an augmentation to bariatric surgery for obesity. Despite relatively limited published data, it can be concluded that anti-obesity medication can serve as an effective adjunct therapy to bariatric surgery to help boost post-bariatric weight loss or prevent weight regain. Background: The impact on cardiovascular health is lost when a patient does not obtain a newly prescribed lipid-lowering medication, a situation termed "initial medication nonadherence" (IMN). This research summarizes the published evidence on the prevalence, associated factors, consequences, and solutions for IMN to prescribed lipid-lowering medication in the United States. Methods: A systematic literature search using PubMed and Google Scholar, along with screening citations of systematic reviews, identified articles published from 2010 to 2021. Studies reporting results of IMN to lipid-lowering medications were included. Studies that evaluated non-adult or non-US populations, used weaker study designs (e.g., case series), or were not written in English were excluded. Results: There were 19 articles/18 studies that met inclusion and exclusion criteria. Estimates of the prevalence of IMN to newly prescribed lipid-lowering medications ranged from 10 to 18.2% of patients and 1.4–43.8% of prescriptions (n = 9 studies). Three studies reported prescriber and patient characteristics associated with IMN. Hispanic ethnicity, Black race, lower Charlson Comorbidity Index score and no ED visits or hospitalization were associated with IMN. Lipid lowering prescriptions from primary care providers were also associated with IMN. Four studies described patient-reported reasons for IMN, including preference for lifestyle modifications, lack of perceived need, and side effect concerns. Four intervention studies reported mixed results with automated calls, live calls, or letters. One study reported worse clinical outcomes in patients with IMN: higher levels of low-density lipoprotein and greater risk of emergency department visits. Conclusions: Up to one-fifth of patients fail to obtain a newly prescribed lipid-lowering medication but there is limited information about the clinical consequences. Background: Promoting prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) in Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients might occur secondary to RA therapy as well as sedentary life style. However, conflicting observations have been reported on the correlation between MetS and RA. This study aimed to determine the frequency of MetS and association of its components in RA. Methods: In this study, 500 RA patients and 500 age- and gender-matched healthy controls were enrolled. MetS was fulfilled through the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) criteria. A multivariate regression model was used to control for variables independently associated with the risk of MetS in RA patients. Results: The prevalence of MetS was 58.8% on IDF criteria in RA patients that was higher than controls (20.4%). Higher incidence of cardiovascular disease (CVD), the familial history of CVD, hypertension, type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), smoking, dyslipidemia, and higher levels of body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), total cholesterol level, fasting blood sugar (FBS), triglyceride (TG) level, low-density lipoprotein (LDL) level, while lower levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) were associated with an increased risk of MetS in RA patients. Multivariate regression analysis indicated that age, WC, dyslipidemia, LDL, and DAS28 were independent predictors of MetS in the RA patients. Conclusions: The prevalence of MetS is higher in RA patients. Our findings suggest an association between cardiovascular risk factors and the increased prevalence of MetS in RA patients. Objectives: A low handgrip strength (HGS) is a significant risk factor for multiple diseases. However, most relevant studies investigate the complications of a low HGS, while the risk potential of causative factors of low HGS remain poorly characterized. Methods: We investigated the potentials of quality of life, depression, dyslipidaemia, diabetes mellitus, cancer, Alzheimer's disease, stroke, frailty, and difficulties performing daily activities in predicting low HGS (≤ 27 kg for men, ≤ 16 kg for women) in European older adults aged 50 or above from 15 countries (n = 42,183). All data was collected from four successive waves of survey of health, ageing, and retirement in Europe (SHARE) conducted between 2013 and 2020. Logistic models are applied, and estimated effects are presented as odds ratios and probabilities. Results: Collectively, 3016 participants (men; n = 1395; 7.38%, women; n = 1621, 6.97%) developed low HGS during the 6.5 years study period. After adjusting for covariables, we identified an advancing age (1.6–48.1% points higher risk of low HGS), male gender (1.0%-point higher risk of low HGS), lower quality of life (1.6%-point higher), and stroke (1.5%-points) as significant risk factors for low HGS. We also found a dose-dependent association of Euro-D depression scores with the risk of low HGS, as the higher scores were associated with between 0.6- and 2.3%-points higher risk of developing low HGS than participants without depression. Among physical performance indicators, difficulty climbing stairs (2.0%-points higher low HGS risk) or rising from a chair (0.7%-points) were significantly associated with developing low HGS. Lastly, frailty (0.9%-points higher risk of low HGS) and the fear of falling down (1.6%-points higher risk) also increased the risk of developing low HGS. Conclusion: Altogether, we report several risk factors for developing low HGS. Aims To evaluate a self-administered digital education resource for patients after a heart attack (adapted simplified Chinese version of Cardiac College™) on secondary prevention knowledge and health behaviour change outcomes. Methods and results Chinese immigrants recovering from a heart attack were recruited from cardiac rehabilitation programmes at four metropolitan tertiary hospitals. Participants provided access to Cardiac College™ (adapted simplified Chinese version), a self-learning secondary prevention virtual education resource over 4 weeks. The web-based resources include 9 booklets and 10 pre-recorded video education sessions. Assessments included health literacy, secondary prevention knowledge, self-management behaviours, self-reported physical activity, and a heart-healthy diet. Satisfaction, acceptability, and engagement were also assessed. From 81 patients screened, 67 were recruited, and 64 (95.5%) completed the study. The participants' mean age was 67.2 ± 8.1 years old, 81.2% were males, and the majority had no English proficiency (65.6%). Following the intervention, significant improvements were observed for secondary prevention knowledge overall and in all subdomains, with the most improvement occurring in medical, exercise, and psychological domains (P < 0.001). Dietary and self-management behaviours also improved significantly (P < 0.05). According to participants, the educational materials were engaging (100%), and the content was adequate (68.8%); however, 26.6% found the information overwhelming. Overall, 46.9% were highly satisfied with the resources. Conclusion A self-learning virtual patient-education package improved secondary prevention knowledge and self-care behaviour in Chinese immigrants after a heart attack. This systematic review collected evidence on the burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) among professional drivers and reported on the most common factors that increase the risk of NCDs in this specific population in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). The protocol for this systematic review was registered in the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews (PROSPERO). We conducted a thorough search on PubMed/MEDLINE, EMBASE, Scopus, Global Health, Web of Science and Africa-wide information databases on 11 May 2023. We adapted the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) tool to assess the quality of the studies. We estimated the prevalence of hypertension, prediabetes, diabetes mellitus (DM), overweight and obesity among professional drivers using a random effect model to compute pooled and subgroup analyses. In addition, we conducted a narrative synthesis of the risk factors and recommendations presented in the included studies. Forty-one studies, including 48 414 study participants, met the criteria for inclusion. The pooled prevalence of hypertension, DM and obesity among professional drivers was 36.7% [95% confidence interval (CI): 31.8–41.6%], 15.2% (95% CI: 7.0–23.4%) and 27.2% (95% CI: 18.7–35.8%), respectively. Unsupportive environment, work stress, sedentary lifestyle, consumption of unhealthy foods and shift work were the most common modifiable risk factors reported. Our findings also show a significant burden of hypertension, DM and obesity among professional drivers in LMICs. The prevalence of DM and obesity was two- and three-fold higher than findings in general populations, respectively. Purpose: Atherosclerotic disease of the forearm arteries can impede the maturation of distal fistulas in diabetic patients. The goal of this study was to look at the maturity of diabetic hemodialysis patients' distal forearm (radiocephalic snuffbox or distal forearm) arteriovenous fistulas. Materials and Methods: Patients with chronic renal failure who were candidates for distal forearm radiocephalic arteriovenous fistula implantation were evaluated in this cross-sectional study. Patients' demographic details, underlying disorders, laboratory measurements, vital signs, and information on their surgery were all noted. Patients were checked for fistula development 1 week, 1 month, 2 months, and then monthly until 6 months after surgery. Arteriovenous fistula maturation characterized by optimal blood flow, vessel dilation, and structural adaptations. Results: Among 343 patients (56% male, 44% female, mean age: 57.32 ± 12.48 years), hypertension prevailed (81.9%), followed by hyperlipidemia (42.3%) and coronary artery disease history (25.9%). AVFs achieved 58.3% maturation in 64.98 ± 11.05 days; higher BP during creation correlated with successful maturation (17.02 ± 1.46 mmHg vs 13.90 ± 1.93 mmHg, P <.05). No significant statistical difference found in distal forearm arteriovenous fistula maturation between males (57.8%) and females (58.9%) (P >.005). However, 41.7% of AVFs failed in 18.83 ± 17.89 days. Failed AVFs exhibited lower BP during operation and failure (11.75 ± 1.86 mmHg). Kaplan-Meier analysis depicted maturation probabilities over 90 days post-surgery. Conclusion: Diabetes and patient sex did not affect the maturation time of distal forearm AVFs in hemodialysis patients. This study aimed to explore the effect of standardized nutrition nursing combined with low molecular weight heparin calcium in treating patients with hyperlipidemic pancreatitis. A total of 100 patients from Yancheng Third People's Hospital were randomly divided into the control group and treatment group using a random number table. The control group received basic treatment that included fasting, isotonic saline, Ibuprofen, gastrointestinal decompression, Fentanyl, Pantoprazole, octreotide, electrolyte balance maintenance, glucose control, and lipid-lowering drug + routine enteral nutrition nursing. On this basis, the treatment group received low molecular weight heparin calcium injection + standardized enteral nutrition nursing. The total effective rate of the treatment group was higher than that of the control group (94.00% versus 76.00%; P < 0.05). After intervention, compared with the control group, serum levels of prealbumin, albumin, and transferrin were significantly higher (P < 0.05), while serum levels of triglyceride, total cholesterol, and amylase were significantly lower (P < 0.05) in the treatment group. Furthermore, improvements in prothrombin time, thrombin time, fibrinogen level, and activated partial thrombokinase time in the treatment group were more obvious (P < 0.05), while serum levels of C-reactive protein, tumor necrosis factor-α, and interleukin-6 were significantly lower (P < 0.05) than those in the control group. No difference was found in the incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups (P > 0.05). Overall, standardized nutrition nursing combined with low molecular weight heparin calcium can reduce blood lipid levels and inflammatory responses, improve coagulation function, and promote the nutritional status of patients with hyperlipidemic pancreatitis. Several risk factors of ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL) have been established, including diabetes and obesity. However, the relationship between hyperlipidemia (HLD) and OPLL is incompletely understood. PearlDiver was queried to identify adults with (+) and without (−) HLD, diabetes, and obesity. Comparative analyses were performed on demographics, comorbidities, and OPLL rates before and after matching for age, sex, and comorbidities. Stepwise logistic regression modeling assessing the relationship between HLD and OPLL with the addition of predictor variables was also performed. In total, 31,677 cervical OPLL patients, as well as 170,467 HLD+ and 118,665 HLD–, 168,985 Diabetes+ and 137,966 Diabetes–, and 150,363 Obesity+ and 142,553 Obesity– patients, were examined. Mean age ranged 43.44–59.46 years, 54.94–63.12% were females, and mean Charlson Comorbidity Index ranged from 0.06 from 1.53, all higher in those with the comorbidity. Before matching, OPLL rates were higher in those with HLD (HLD+ = 0.05% vs. HLD– = 0.03%, P = 0.005), diabetes (Diabetes+ = 0.06% vs. Diabetes– = 0.02%, P < 0.001), and obesity (Obesity+ = 0.05% vs. Obesity– = 0.02%, P = 0.001). However, after matching by age, sex, and Charlson Comorbidity Index, the associations between the studied comorbidities and OPLL were attenuated (all P > 0.05). Stepwise regression modeling revealed an association between HLD and cervical OPLL that was most impacted by the addition of age (OR=1.95, R2 = 0.029 to OR=1.38, R2 = 0.075) and obesity (OR=1.21, R2 = 0.086 to OR=1.07, R2 = 0.111) into the model. Cervical OPLL rates were higher in patients with HLD even after accounting for demographics and comorbidities. HLD may be an independent risk factor for OPLL development. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
