Aiming at recognizing the samples from novel categories with few reference samples, few-shot learning (FSL) is a challenging problem. We found that the existing works often build their few-shot model based on the image-level feature by mixing all local-level features, which leads to the discriminative location bias and information loss in local details. To tackle the problem, this paper returns the perspective to the local-level feature and proposes a series of local-level strategies. Specifically, we present (a) a local-agnostic training strategy to avoid the discriminative location bias between the base and novel categories, (b) a novel local-level similarity measure to capture the accurate comparison between local-level features, and (c) a local-level knowledge transfer that can synthesize different knowledge transfers from the base category according to different location features. Extensive experiments justify that our proposed local-level strategies can significantly boost the performance and achieve 2.8%-7.2% improvements over the baseline across different benchmark datasets, which also achieves state-of-the-art accuracy., Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, submitted to ICASSP 2022

4. Instant Response Few-shot Object Detection with Meta Strategy and Explicit Localization Inference

Aiming at recognizing and localizing the object of novel categories by a few reference samples, few-shot object detection (FSOD) is a quite challenging task. Previous works often depend on the fine-tuning process to transfer their model to the novel category and rarely consider the defect of fine-tuning, resulting in many application drawbacks. For example, these methods are far from satisfying in the episode-changeable scenarios due to excessive fine-tuning times, and their performance on low-quality (e.g., low-shot and class-incomplete) support sets degrades severely. To this end, this paper proposes an instant response few-shot object detector (IR-FSOD) that can accurately and directly detect the objects of novel categories without the fine-tuning process. To accomplish the objective, we carefully analyze the defects of individual modules in the Faster R-CNN framework under the FSOD setting and then extend it to IR-FSOD by improving these defects. Specifically, we first propose two simple but effective meta-strategies for the box classifier and RPN module to enable the object detection of novel categories with instant response. Then, we introduce two explicit inferences into the localization module to alleviate its over-fitting to the base categories, including explicit localization score and semi-explicit box regression. Extensive experiments show that the IR-FSOD framework not only achieves few-shot object detection with the instant response but also reaches state-of-the-art performance in precision and recall under various FSOD settings.

The macroscopic control of ubiquitous heat flow remains poorly explored due to the lack of a fundamental theoretical method. Here, by establishing temperature-dependent transformation thermotics for treating materials whose conductivity depends on temperature, we show analytical and simulation evidence for switchable thermal cloaking and a macroscopic thermal diode based on the cloaking. The latter allows heat flow in one direction but prohibits the flow in the opposite direction, which is also confirmed by our experiments. Our results suggest that the temperature-dependent transformation thermotics could be a fundamental theoretical method for achieving macroscopic heat rectification, and provide guidance both for macroscopic control of heat flow and for the design of the counterparts of switchable thermal cloaks or macroscopic thermal diodes in other fields like seismology, acoustics, electromagnetics, or matter waves., Comment: To be published in Phys. 10. Identification of the RRM1 gene family in rice (Oryza sativa) and its response to rice blast.

To better understand RNA-binding proteins in rice, a comprehensive investigation was conducted on the RRM1 gene family of rice. It encompassed genome-wide identification and exploration of its role in rice blast resistance. The physicochemical properties of the rice OsRRM1 gene family were analyzed. There genes were also analyzed for their conserved domains, motifs, location information, gene structure, phylogenetic trees, collinearity, and cis-acting elements. Furthermore, alterations in the expression patterns of selected OsRRM1 genes were assessed using quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR). A total of 212 members of the OsRRM1 gene family were identified, which were dispersed across 12 chromosomes. These genes all exhibit multiple exons and introns, all of which encompass the conserved RRM1 domain and share analogous motifs. This observation suggests a high degree of conservation within the encoded sequence domain of these genes. Phylogenetic analysis revealed the existence of five subfamilies within the OsRRM1 gene family. Furthermore, investigation of the promoter region identified cis-regulatory elements that are involved in nucleic acid binding and interaction with multiple transcription factors. By employing GO and KEGG analyses, four RRM1 genes were tentatively identified as crucial contributors to plant immunity, while the RRM1 gene family was also found to have a significant involvement in the complex of alternative splicing. The qRT-PCR results revealed distinct temporal changes in the expression patterns of OsRRM1 genes following rice blast infection. Additionally, gene expression analysis indicates that the majority of OsRRM1 genes exhibited constitutive expressions. These findings enrich our understanding of the OsRRM1 gene family. We aimed to explore the changes in post-operative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) after gastrointestinal endoscopic treatment using detailed neuropsychological assessments. Patients hospitalized for gastrointestinal endoscopic polypectomy were recruited for neuropsychological evaluations, which included the Chinese version of the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), Auditory-Verbal Learning Test, Digit Span Test (DST), Trail Making Task (TMT), Verbal Fluency Test, Clock Drawing Test, and Stroop test. Cognitive assessments were performed twice: one day before and 24 h after treatment. Healthy control subjects participated in the neuropsychological assessment during the same intervals. Detailed cognitive assessments were performed for 40 patients and 60 control subjects. Based on the Z scores, the incidence of POCD 24 h after gastrointestinal endoscopic treatment was 20%. Patients with POCD had significant impairment in the post-operative MMSE, forward DST, TMT, and Stroop interference effect correct count tests (all p < 0.05). Our preliminary results showed that patients were not fully recovered, and 20% had impairment in multiple cognitive assessments 24 h after a gastrointestinal endoscopy. As attention was affected, safety while discharging those patients should be a concern.

With the demand for data processing and storage increasing rapidly, the existing CMOS-based computing system is gradually unable to meet the amplification demand because of its high-power consumption. Due to high frequency and low power consumption, superconducting rapid single-flux-quantum (RSFQ) logic circuit technology is an attractive candidate. In this paper, we propose a novel placement method based on the layer layout. We layer the gates according to the logic level, which is the length of the longest path in terms of the number of clocked gates from any primary input (PI) of the circuit to the gate. Dummy gates are inserted so that any two adjacent layers can form a bipartite graph. Then the gates of each layer are reordered to minimize the half-perimeter wirelength (HPWL). Finally, the gates of each layer are assigned vertical positions to make the edges as straight as possible. The distance between adjacent layers is determined by the number of bending points of the edges between layers. We use several superconducting RSFQ logic circuits to evaluate the effectiveness of our proposed placement method, which uses HPWL and area as evaluation metrics. The experimental results show that compared with the Simulated Annealing (SA)-based placement method, the proposed approach can reduce the total HPWL and total area by an average of 77.77% and 57.56%, respectively.

ProtoDUNE Dual Phase (DP) is a 6 × 6 × 6 m 3 liquid argon time-projection-chamber (LArTPC) that recorded cosmic-muon data at the CERN Neutrino Platform in 2019-2020 as a prototype of the DUNE Far Detector. Charged particles propagating through the LArTPC produce ionization and scintillation light. The scintillation light signal in these detectors can provide the trigger for non-beam events. In addition, it adds precise timing capabilities and improves the calorimetry measurements. In ProtoDUNE-DP, scintillation and electroluminescence light produced by cosmic muons in the LArTPC is collected by photomultiplier tubes placed up to 7 m away from the ionizing track. In this paper, the ProtoDUNE-DP photon detection system performance is evaluated with a particular focus on the different wavelength shifters, such as PEN and TPB, and the use of Xe-doped LAr, considering its future use in giant LArTPCs. The scintillation light production and propagation processes are analyzed and a comparison of simulation to data is performed, improving understanding of the liquid argon properties.

Equivalence checking is a key component of the verification methodology for digital circuit designs. In this paper, we propose an equivalence checking framework for superconducting rapid single-flux-quantum (RSFQ) logic circuits which include acyclic circuits and bit-slice-based cyclic circuits. It consists of a structure checker and a logic checker. The structure checker is used to check whether the circuit meets the design rules of superconducting RSFQ logic circuits. The logic checker can be used to check whether two RSFQ gate-level circuits have the same logic function. For the logic checker, we propose a logic equivalence checking method based on logic cone partition. The circuit network is simplified layer by layer and iteratively partitioned into logic cones, each of which is verified by the SMT solver. The experimental results show the feasibility of our approach on superconducting RSFQ logic circuits.
