The patients were randomly divided into a treatment group and control group, and both groups were given standard pharmaceuticals after PCI and the Wenyang Huoxue recipe. The treatment group was additionally treated with the Eight Trigrams Boxing Method. The control group was provided with aerobic rehabilitation exercise. The maximum oxygen uptake (VO2max), metabolic equivalent (MET), the results of a 6-min walking test, the Seattle Angina Questionnaire (SAQ) score, SF-36 score, and other indicators were evaluated before and after treatment. The therapeutic effect was evaluated by comparison between the groups and within the groups.Results: The VO2max, MET, 6-min walking distance, SAQ score, and SF-36 score in both groups improved after treatment compared with before treatment. There was no difference between the two groups before treatment. However, after treatment, the VO2max, MET, 6 min walking distance, SAQ score, and SF-36 score in the treatment group were higher compared with the control group.Conclusion: A traditional Chinese medicine cardiac rehabilitation program of Eight Trigrams Boxing combined with a Wenyang Huoxue recipe can improve the cardiopulmonary function and quality of life of patients. Currently, we aim to investigate the potential roles of lncRNA ADAM Metallopeptidase with Thrombospondin Type 1 Motif 9 Antisense RNA 1 (ADAMTS9-AS1) in breast carcinoma.Materials and Methods: The expressions of ADAMTS9-AS1 and miR-513a-5p in breast carcinoma tissues and cell lines were detected using qRT-PCR. Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) and transwell assays were used to assess the viability and invasive ability of breast cancer cells. The direct interaction between ADAMTS9-AS1 and miR-513a-5p was predicted using bioinformatics tools. The target of miR-513a-5p, ZFP36 Ring Finger Protein (ZFP36) was validated by luciferase assay. The expression of ZFP36 was measured using Western blot assay. Breast cancer MDA-MB-231 cells growth in vivo was evaluated using xenograft tumor assay.Results: ADAMTS9-AS1 was downregulated in breast cancer tissues as well as cell lines. Upregulation of ADAMTS9-AS1 suppressed the growth and invasiveness of breast carcinoma cells in vitro as well as inhibiting cellgrowth in vivo. Furthermore, ZFP36 was manifested as the target gene of miR-513a-5p and negatively modulated by ADAMTS9-AS1. In addition, overexpression of ADAMTS9-AS1 neutralized the promoting impact of miR-513a-5p on the aggressiveness of breast cancer cells.Conclusion: In conclusion, lncRNA ADAMTS9-AS1 inhibited the aggressive phenotypes of breast carcinoma cells via sponging miR-513a-5p and regulating ZFP36.Keywords: breast carcinoma, MiR-513a-5p, ZFP36, ADAMTS9-AS1

Background: The therapeutic impact of the Wenyang Huoxue (WYXH) formula on coronary atherosclerotic heart disease (CHD) is well established, yet the precise mechanisms are currently not fully understood. This study provides preliminary insights into the potential mechanisms underlying the therapeutic effects of the formula on CHD by utilizing network pharmacology and molecular docking technology., Materials and Methods: The primary active constituents and their corresponding action targets for the formula were retrieved from the TCMSP database. Utilizing Cytoscape 3.9.1 software, a network linking the components of the formula to their respective targets was constructed. Information was collected from Genecards, OMIM, TTD, and DrugBank databases to identify targets related to CHD. The common targets shared by the formula and CHD were then imported into the STRING database to create a protein-protein interaction (PPI) network. Following this, enrichment analyses were performed on the shared targets using Gene Ontology (GO) and the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG). Finally, molecular docking was conducted on the primary active compounds and the core targets., Results: The network encompassing the components and targets of the formula comprises a total of 311 nodes and 895 edges. Compounds exhibiting higher degree centrality consist of quercetin, β-sitosterol, and kaempferol. In the PPI network, proteins with elevated degree centrality are protein kinase B (AKT1), epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), and mitogen-activated protein kinase 3 (MAPK3). The results of GO and KEGG enrichment analyses reveal that the biological processes associated with the efficacy of the formula in treating CHD primarily involve positive regulation of gene expression, hypoxia response, and lipopolysaccharide response, among others. The signaling pathways primarily involved include phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase and protein kinase B (PI3K-AKT), MAPK3, tumor necrosis factor (TNF), and so on. Molecular docking results demonstrate a strong affinity between quercetin, β-sitosterol, and kaempferol with AKT1, EGFR, and MAPK3., Conclusion: We showed for the first time that AKT1, EGFR, and MAPK3 are potential targets influenced by the WYHX formula in CHD treatment. The therapeutic effects could possibly involve signaling pathways such as the PI3K-AKT, MAPK, TNF, and AGE-RAGE pathways.

Background: The significant rebound of influenza A (H1N1) virus activity, particularly among children, with rapidly growing number of hospitalized cases is of major concern in the post-COVID-19 era. The present study was performed to establish a prediction model of severe case in pediatric patients hospitalized with H1N1 infection during the post-COVID-19 era., Methods: This is a multicenter retrospective study across nine public tertiary hospitals in Yunnan, China, recruiting pediatric H1N1 inpatients hospitalized at five of these centers between February 1 and July 1, 2023, into the development dataset. Screening of 40 variables including demographic information, clinical features, and laboratory parameters were performed utilizing Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (LASSO) regression and logistic regression to determine independent risk factors of severe H1N1 infection, thus constructing a prediction nomogram. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, calibration curve, as well as decision curve analysis (DCA) were employed to evaluate the model's performance. Data from four independent cohorts comprised of pediatric H1N1 inpatients from another four hospitals between July 25 and October 31, 2023, were utilized to externally validate this nomogram., Results: The development dataset included 527 subjects, 122 (23.1 %) of whom developed severe H1N1 infection. The external validation dataset included 352 subjects, 72 (20.5 %) of whom were eventually confirmed as severe H1N1 infection. The LASSO regression identified 19 candidate predictors, with logistic regression further narrowing down to 11 independent risk factors, including underlying conditions, prematurity, fever duration, wheezing, poor appetite, leukocyte count, neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), interleukin-10 (IL-10), and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α). By integrating these 11 factors, a predictive nomogram was established. In terms of prediction of severe H1N1 infection, excellent discriminative capacity, favorable accuracy, and satisfactory clinical usefulness of this model were internally and externally validated via ROC curve, calibration curve, and DCA, respectively., Conclusion: Our study successfully established and validated a novel nomogram model integrating underlying conditions, prematurity, fever duration, wheezing, poor appetite, leukocyte count, NLR, ESR, LDH, IL-10, and TNF-α. Objective: To investigate the clinical characteristics of 130 children with severe SARS-CoV-2 infection in Yunnan province after the relaxation of non-pharmaceutical interventions, and analyze the risk factors for mortality. Methods: This study is a retrospective case summary that analyzed the demographic data, underlying diseases, clinical diagnoses, disease outcomes, and laboratory results of 130 children with severe COVID-19 infections admitted to nine top-tier hospitals in Yunnan Province from December 2022 to March 2023. According to the prognosis, the patients were divided into survival group and death group. The clinical and laboratory data between the two groups were compared, and the risk factors of death were evaluated. The χ 2 test and Mann-Whitney U test were employed to compare between groups, while Spearman correlation test and multiple Logistic regression were used to analyze the risk factors for death. The predictive value of independent risk factors was evaluated by receiver operating characteristic curve. Results: The 130 severe patients included 80 males and 50 females with an onset age of 28.0 (4.5, 79.5) months. There were 97 cases in the survival group and 33 cases in the death group with no significant differences in gender and age between the two groups ( P >0.05). Twenty-five cases (19.2%) out of the 130 patients had underlying diseases, and the number with underlying diseases was significantly higher in death group than in survival group (36.4% (12/33) vs . 13.4%(13/97), χ 2 =8.36, P =0.004). The vaccination rate in the survival group was significantly higher than that in the death group (86.1% (31/36) vs . 7/17, χ 2 =9.38, P =0.002). A total of 42 cases (32.3%) of the 130 patients were detected to be infected with other pathogens, but there was no significant difference in the incidence of co-infection between the death group and the survival group (39.3%(13/33) vs . 29.9% (29/97), χ 2 =1.02, P >0.05). Among the 130 cases, severe respiratory cases were the most common 66 cases (50.8%), followed by neurological severe illnesses 34 cases (26.2%) and circulatory severe 13 cases (10%). Compared to the survival group, patients in the death group had a significantly higher levels of neutrophil, ferritin, procalcitonin, alanine aminotransferase, lactate dehydrogenase, creatine kinase isoenzyme, B-type natriuretic peptide, interleukin-6 and 10 (6.7 (4.0, 14.0) vs . 3.0 (1.6, 7.0)×10 9 /L, 479 (298, 594) vs. 268 (124, 424) μg/L, 4.8 (1.7, 10.6) vs . 2.0 (1.1, 3.1) μg/L, 66 (20, 258) vs. 23 (15, 49) U/L, 464 (311, 815) vs. 304 (252, 388) g/L, 71(52, 110) vs. 24(15, 48) U/L, 484 (160, 804) vs. 154 (26, 440) ng/L, 43 (23, 102) vs. 19 (13, 27) ng/L, 216 (114, 318) vs. 86 (45, 128) ng/L, Z =-4.21, -3.67, -3.76, -3.31, -3.75, -5.74, -3.55, -4.65, -5.86, all P <0.05). The correlated indexes were performed by multivariate Logistic regression and the results showed that vaccination was a protective factor from death in severe cases ( OR =0.01, 95% CI 0-0.97, P =0.049) while pediatric sequential organ failure assessment (PSOFA) ( OR =3.31, 95% CI 1.47-7.47, P =0.004), neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) ( OR =1.56, 95% CI 1.05-2.32, P =0.029) and D dimer ( OR =1.49, 95% CI 1.00-1.02, P =0.033) were independent risk factors for death (all P <0.05). The area under the curve of the three independent risk factors for predicting death were 0.86 (95% CI 0.79-0.94), 0.89 (95% CI 0.84-0.95) and 0.87 (95% CI 0.80-0.94), all P <0.001, and the cut-off values were 4.50, 3.66 and 4.69 mg/L, respectively. Conclusions: Severe SARS-CoV-2 infection can occur in children of all ages, primarily affecting the respiratory system, but can also infect the nervous system, circulatory system or other systems. Children who died had more severe inflammation, tissue damage and coagulation disorders. The elevations of PSOFA, NLR and D dimer were independent risk factors for death in severe children.

Objective: Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental disorder that manifests after exposure to a stressful traumatic event, such as combat experience. Accumulated evidence indicates an important genetic influence in the development of PTSD. The serotonin transporter (5-HTT) gene has been identified as a candidate for PTSD and a polymorphism of the serotonin transporter-linked promoter region (5-HTTLPR) is associated with the disorder in the general population. However, whether it is associated with PTSD in active military service members has not been investigated. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between 5-HTTLPR and PTSD in service members., Methods: Leucocyte genomic DNA was extracted from service members, including those with PTSD (n = 134) or without PTSD (n = 639). The 5-HTTLPR polymorphism was detected by means of 2 stages of TaqMan fluorescent PCR assay. PTSD symptoms and symptom severity were assessed using the PTSD Checklist (PCL), a 17-item, DSM-based, self-report questionnaire with well-established validity and reliability. PTSD was determined based on endorsement of DSM-IV criteria and a PCL total score ≥ 44., Results: Significant differences in biallele distribution were observed between PTSD and controls (χ2 = 7.497, P  = .024). The frequency of SS, SL, and LL genotypes in the PTSD group was 0.17, 0.56, and 0.27 respectively, compared to the frequencies of 0.27, 0.43, and 0.29 in non-PTSD controls. Carriers of the L allele had higher scores for reexperiencing and arousal symptoms on the PCL, compared to SS homozygote carriers ( P  < .05). The triallele genotypes showed no significant differences in distribution between the PTSD and control groups ( P  > .05) and no relationship with PTSD symptom severity. The interaction of triallelic genotypes of 5-HTTLPR and traumatic life events was associated with re-experiencing, avoidance, and arousal ( P  < .05 for all). Multiple regression analysis revealed significant correlations between both biallelic and triallelic genotypes of 5-HTTLPR, the interaction of the number of stressful lifetime events, and 5-HTTLPR genotypes with PCL total score ( P  < .001)., Conclusion: Our findings suggested that 5-HTT might play a minor role in PTSD, and the interaction between 5-HTTLPR and the environment had effects on PCL score, complementing and emphasizing 5-HTT for PTSD, especially in the military population., Competing Interests: The authors declared no potential conflicts of interest with respect to the research, authorship, and/or publication of this article., (© The Author(s) 2024.)

The detection of ascorbic acid (AA), dopamine (DA), and uric acid (UA) is not only of great significance in the areas of biomedicine and neurochemistry but also helpful in disease diagnosis and pathology research. Due to their diverse structures, designability, and large specific surface areas, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have recently caught considerable attention in the electrochemical field. Herein, a family of heterometallic MOFs with amino modification, MIL-125(Ti-Al)- x NH 2 ( x = 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%), were synthesized and employed as electrochemical sensors for the detection of AA, DA, and UA. Among them, MIL-125(Ti-Al)-75%NH 2 exhibited the most promising electrochemical behavior with 40% doping of carbon black in 0.1 M PBS (pH = 7.10), which displayed individual detection performance with wide linear detection ranges (1.0-6.5 mM for AA, 5-100 μM for DA and 5-120 μM for UA) and low limits of detection (0.215 mM for AA, 0.086 μM for DA, and 0.876 μM for UA, S/N = 3). Furthermore, the as-prepared MIL-125(Ti-Al)-75%NH 2 /GCE provided a promising platform for future application in real sample analysis, owing to its excellent anti-interference performance and good stability.

Background: The rebound of influenza A (H1N1) infection in post-COVID-19 era recently attracted enormous attention due the rapidly increased number of pediatric hospitalizations and the changed characteristics compared to classical H1N1 infection in pre-COVID-19 era. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical characteristics and severity of children hospitalized with H1N1 infection during post-COVID-19 period, and to construct a novel prediction model for severe H1N1 infection., Methods: A total of 757 pediatric H1N1 inpatients from nine tertiary public hospitals in Yunnan and Shanghai, China, were retrospectively included, of which 431 patients diagnosed between February 2023 and July 2023 were divided into post-COVID-19 group, while the remaining 326 patients diagnosed between November 2018 and April 2019 were divided into pre-COVID-19 group. A 1:1 propensity-score matching (PSM) was adopted to balance demographic differences between pre- and post-COVID-19 groups, and then compared the severity across these two groups based on clinical and laboratory indicators. Additionally, a subgroup analysis in the original post-COVID-19 group (without PSM) was performed to investigate the independent risk factors for severe H1N1 infection in post-COIVD-19 era. Specifically, Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (LASSO) regression was applied to select candidate predictors, and logistic regression was used to further identify independent risk factors, thus establishing a prediction model. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and calibration curve were utilized to assess discriminative capability and accuracy of the model, while decision curve analysis (DCA) was used to determine the clinical usefulness of the model., Results: After PSM, the post-COVID-19 group showed longer fever duration, higher fever peak, more frequent cough and seizures, as well as higher levels of C-reactive protein (CRP), interleukin 6 (IL-6), IL-10, creatine kinase-MB (CK-MB) and fibrinogen, higher mechanical ventilation rate, longer length of hospital stay (LOS), as well as higher proportion of severe H1N1 infection (all P < 0.05), compared to the pre-COVID-19 group. Moreover, age, BMI, fever duration, leucocyte count, lymphocyte proportion, proportion of CD3 + T cells, tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α), and IL-10 were confirmed to be independently associated with severe H1N1 infection in post-COVID-19 era. A prediction model integrating these above eight variables was established, and this model had good discrimination, accuracy, and clinical practicability., Conclusions: Pediatric H1N1 infection during post-COVID-19 era showed a higher overall disease severity than the classical H1N1 infection in pre-COVID-19 period. Meanwhile, cough and seizures were more prominent in children with H1N1 infection during post-COVID-19 era. Clinicians should be aware of these changes in such patients in clinical work. Furthermore, a simple and practical prediction model was constructed and internally validated here, which showed a good performance for predicting severe H1N1 infection in post-COVID-19 era., (© 2024. Background: The relationship between gut microbiota composition and coronary heart disease (CHD) has been recently reported in several observational studies. However, the causal effect of gut microbiota on coronary heart disease is uncharted., Objective: This study attempted to investigate the effect of gut microbiota on coronary heart disease by Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis., Methods: Through the two-sample MR method, single-nucleotide polymorphisms relevant to gut microbiota were selected as instrument variables to evaluate the causal association between gut microbiota and the risk of CHD., Results: According to the selection criteria of the inverse variance-weighted average method, Class Actinobacteria, Class Lentisphaeria, Family Clostridiales vadinBB60group, Genus Clostridium innocuum group, Genus Bifidobacterium , Genus Butyricicoccus , Genus Oxalobacter , Genus Turicibacter , and Order Victivallales, presented a suggestive association with coronary heart disease., Conclusion: This two-sample Mendelian randomization study found that gut microbiota was causally associated with coronary heart disease. Organic materials containing humic acids (HAs) play important roles in regulating the bioavailability of cadmium (Cd) in soils and thus its accumulation in crops. The effects of the two active components of HAs, humic acid (HA) and fulvic acid (FA), in organic materials and their different ratios (HA/FA) on Cd uptake and accumulation in rice were investigated using a field plot experiment, and their relationships with the Cd fractions and availability in paddy soil as influenced by the use of these organic materials were analyzed in combination with the fractionation method of chemical continuous extraction. The results showed that the effects of HAs on Cd availability in soil and Cd accumulation in rice grains were controlled by the ratios of the active components in the organic materials. The treatments with an HA/FA ratio ≥ 4/6 had a passivating effect on soil Cd, resulting in a significant reduction in Cd availability. Compared with that in the control without the application of HAs (CK), rice grain Cd concentration was reduced by 15.2%-33.3%, whereas those with an HA/FA ratio ≤ 2/8 activated Cd in soil, and the available Cd content was significantly increased. Compared with that in CK, rice grain Cd concentration was increased by 24.2%-42.4%. The ratios of HA/FA in HAs affected the morphological transformation of soil Cd. Compared with the CK treatment, the treatments with ratios of HA/FA ≥ 4/6 promoted the transformation of soil Cd from the exchangeable form (EX-Cd) with high activity to the carbonate bound form (CA-Cd) and Fe and Mn oxide-bound forms (FM-Cd) with low activity, whereas those with ratios of HA/FA ≤ 2/8 showed the opposite effects. The effects of HA and FA on soil pH and available sulfur concentration differed. Soil pH had a significant positive correlation with HA addition but a negative correlation with FA addition, and soil available sulfur content had a significant positive correlation with FA addition at the rice tillering stage. Therefore, to ensure the quality and safety of rice, organic materials with an HA/FA ratio ≥ 4/6 should be selected. The results provided a scientific basis for the directed utilization of organic materials containing HAs.

The function of natural killer (NK) cells has previously been implicated in hematopoietic-related diseases. Killer immunoglobulin-like receptors (KIR) play an important role in NK cells after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. To explore the immunogenetic predisposition of hematological-related diseases, herein, a multi-center retrospective study in China was conducted, analyzing and comparing 2519 patients with hematopathy (mainly, acute lymphoblastic leukemia, acute myeloid leukemia, aplastic anemia, and myelodysplastic syndrome) to 18,108 individuals without known pathology. Genotyping was performed by polymerase chain reaction with specific sequence primers (PCR-SSP). As a result, we discovered four genes including KIR2DL5 (OR: 0.74, 95% CI 0.59-0.93; Pc = 0.0405), 2DS1 (OR: 0.74, 95% CI 0.59-0.93; Pc = 0.0405), 2DS3 (OR: 0.58, 95% CI 0.41-0.81; Pc = 0.0180), and 3DS1 (OR: 0.74, 95% CI 0.58-0.94; Pc = 0.0405) to be protective factors that significantly reduce the risk of aplastic anemia. Our findings offer new approaches to immunotherapy for hematological-related diseases. Pseudosasa gracilis (Poaceae: Bambusoideae) is a temperate woody bamboo species endemic to South-central China with a narrow distribution. Previous phylogenetic studies revealed an unexpected, isolated phylogenetic position of Ps. gracilis . Here we conducted phylogenomic analysis by sampling populations of Ps. gracilis and its sympatric species Ps. nanunica and Sinosasa polytricha reflecting different genomic signals, by deep genome skimming. Integrating molecular evidence from chloroplast genes and genome-wide SNPs, we deciphered the phylogenetic relationships of Ps. gracilis . Both plastid and nuclear data indicate that Ps. gracilis is more closely related to Sinosasa , which is discordant with the taxonomic treatment. To further explore this molecular-morphological conflict, we screened 411 "perfect-copy" syntenic genes to reconstruct phylogenies using both the concatenation and coalescent methods. We observed extensive discordance between gene trees and the putative species tree. A significant hybridization event was detected based on 411 genes from the D subgenome, showing Ps. gracilis was a hybrid descendant between Sinosasa longiligulata and Ps. nanunica , with 63.56% and 36.44% inheritance probabilities of each parent. Moreover, introgression events were detected in the C subgenome between Ps. gracilis and S. polytricha in the same distribution region. Our findings suggest that sympatric hybridization and introgression play a crucial role in the origin of Ps. gracilis . Gender differences in the lifetime prevalence of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) have been well described with rates reported as approximately 10%-12% in females and 5%-6% in males (Olff, 2017). This study examined whether the sex-related difference of mitochondrial DNA copy number (mtDNAcn), an emerging systemic index of mitochondrial biogenesis and function can serve as a potential biomarker for PTSD. Leukocyte mtDNAcn of service members with PTSD (male = 127, female = 24) or without PTSD (male = 621, female = 78) was assessed using a TaqMan assay. The results were validated by the absolute quantification of QX-200 droplet digital PCR (ddPCR). PTSD symptoms and symptom severity were assessed using the PTSD Checklist (PCL), a 17-item, DSM-based, self-report questionnaire with well-established validity and reliability. DSM-IV criteria and PTSD were determined by PCL total score. We found that mtDNAcn of female subjects with PTSD was significantly higher compared to either male or female non-PTSD controls or male subjects with PTSD (p < 0.05). There was no significant difference in mtDNAcn between males with PTSD and male/female controls without PTSD. Using in vitro cultured SH-SY5Y cells (human neuroblastoma), we demonstrated that estrogen (Estro) treatment significantly decreased mtDNAcn (P < 0.001) compared to the vehicle control. We also found that pre-treatment with either synthetic glucocorticoid dexamethasone (Dex) or Estro blocker tamoxifen (Tamox) attenuated the estrogen-induced decreases of mtDNAcn. Our data suggest that mtDNAcn may be gender-dependent in the Servicemembers with PTSD. Glucocorticoid and/or estrogen receptors may play a role in the regulation of mtDNAcn. Single-crystal planes are ideal platforms for catalytic research. In this work, rolled copper foils with predominantly (220) planes were used as the starting material. By using temperature gradient annealing, which caused grain recrystallization in the foils, they were transformed to those with (200) planes. In acidic solution, the overpotential of such a foil (10 mA cm -2 ) was found to be 136 mV lower than that of a similar rolled copper foil. The calculation results show that hollow sites formed on the (200) plane have the highest hydrogen adsorption energy and are active centers for hydrogen evolution. Thus, this work clarifies the catalytic activity of specific sites on the copper surface and demonstrates the critical role of surface engineering in designing catalytic properties.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a chronic and debilitating mental disorder that affects patients throughout their lives, leading to a diminished quality of life for patients and families, reduced productivity, and higher health care costs. It is of clinical and theoretical importance to investigate a more efficacious therapeutic approach for OCD and the neurophysiological mechanism underlying the efficacy of treatment, potentially associated with the etiology of OCD. Recently, a novel psychotherapy designated cognitive-coping therapy (CCT) has been reported to have a large effect size in OCD treatment. CCT hypothesizes that fear of negative events plays a crucial role in OCD. The study entitled "Decreased left amygdala functional connectivity by cognitive-coping therapy in obsessive-compulsive disorder" attempted to investigate the potential neurophysiological mechanism underlying the efficacy of CCT for OCD. The study provides crystal evidence showing that 4-week pharmacotherapy plus CCT decreases the left amygdala seed-based functional connectivity (LA-FC) with the right anterior cingulate gyrus and the left paracentral lobule/the left superior parietal/left inferior parietal, and 4-week CCT decreases the LA-FC with the left middle occipital gyrus/the left superior parietal. The alteration of the LA-FC with the right anterior cingulate gyrus positively correlates to the reduction of the Yale-Brown obsessive-compulsive scale (Y-BOCS) score. A robust data fusion strategy integrating Tri-step infrared spectroscopy (IR) with electronic nose (E-nose) was established for rapid qualitative authentication and quantitative evaluation of red wines using Cabernet Sauvignon as an example. The chemical fingerprints of four types of wines were thoroughly interpreted by Tri-step IR, and the defined spectral fingerprint region of alcohol and sugar was 1200-950 cm -1 . The wine types were authenticated by IR-based principal component analysis (PCA). Furthermore, ten quantitative models by partial least squares (PLS) were built to evaluate alcohol and total sugar contents. In particular, the model based on the fusion datasets of spectral fingerprint region and E-nose was superior to the others, in which RMSEP reduced by 47.95% (alcohol) and 79.90% (total sugar), r p increased by 11.95% and 43.47%, and RPD >3.0. Using a carboxylic acid linker, this work achieved the epitaxially coordinated assembly of a Ag-S layer into a three-dimensional semi-conductive framework, with high thermal stability, as well as an interesting temperature-dependent luminescence response. This work provides a new avenue to prepare semi-conductive metal-chalcogenide layer-based materials in electricity-related applications.

It is of great clinical importance to explore more efficacious treatments for OCD. Recently, cognitive-coping therapy (CCT), mainly focusing on recognizing and coping with a fear of negative events, has been reported as an efficacious psychotherapy. However, the underlying neurophysiological mechanism remains unknown. This study of 79 OCD patients collected Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale (Y-BOCS) and resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) scans before and after four weeks of CCT, pharmacotherapy plus CCT (pCCT), or pharmacotherapy. Amygdala seed-based functional connectivity (FC) analysis was performed. Compared post- to pretreatment, pCCT-treated patients showed decreased left amygdala (LA) FC with the right anterior cingulate gyrus (cluster 1) and with the left paracentral lobule/the parietal lobe (cluster 2), while CCT-treated patients showed decreased LA-FC with the left middle occipital gyrus/the left superior parietal/left inferior parietal (cluster 3). The z-values of LA-FC with the three clusters were significantly lower after pCCT or CCT than pretreatment in comparisons of covert vs. overt and of non-remission vs. remission patients, except the z-value of cluster 2 in covert OCD. CCT and pCCT significantly reduced the Y-BOCS score. The reduction in the Y-BOCS score was positively correlated with the z-value of cluster 1. Our findings demonstrate that both pCCT and CCT with large effect sizes lowered LA-FC, indicating that FCs were involved in OCD. Additionally, decreased LA-FC with the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) or paracentral/parietal cortex may be a marker for pCCT response or a marker for distinguishing OCD subtypes. Background: Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) tends to be treatment refractory. Recently, cognitive-coping therapy (CCT) for OCD is reported to be an efficacious psychotherapy. However, the underlying neurophysiological mechanism remains unknown. Here, the effects of CCT on OCD and the resting-state brain function were investigated., Methods: Fifty-nine OCD patients underwent CCT, pharmacotherapy plus CCT (pCCT), or pharmacotherapy. Before and after a 4-week treatment, Yale-Brown obsessive-compulsive scale (Y-BOCS) was evaluated and resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) was scanned., Results: Compared with the baseline, significant reduction of Y-BOCS scores was found after four-week treatment (p < .001) in groups of CCT and pCCT, not in pharmacotherapy. Post-treatment Y-BOCS scores of CCT group and pCCT group were not different, but significantly lower than that of pharmacotherapy group (p < .001). Compared with pretreatment, two clusters of brain regions with significant change in amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (ALFF) were obtained in those who treated with CCT and pCCT, but not in those who received pharmacotherapy. The ALFF in cluster 1 (insula, putamen, and postcentral gyrus in left cerebrum) was decreased, while the ALFF in cluster 2 (occipital medial gyrus, occipital inferior gyrus, and lingual gyrus in right hemisphere) was increased after treatment (corrected p < .05). The changes of ALFF were correlated with the reduction of Y-BOCS score and were greater in remission than in nonremission. Context: Coronary heart disease (CHD) refers to a disease where coronary atherosclerosis induces stenosis or obstruction of the blood vessels. Endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) function to protect and repair the vascular endothelium, and their functional activity state reflects the ability of the body to repair vascular damage. In the peripheral blood of patients with CHD, the density of EPCs decreases, and the function of EPCs is low., Objective: This study aimed to investigate the effects of a China Food and Drug Administration (CFDA)-approved prescription medicine, Tongxin, on the density and function of endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) in peripheral blood., Design: In this study, a randomized, single blind, parallel controlled clinical trial was used. The single blind subjects were subjects., Setting: The study took place in the Cardiology and Emergency Departments at Shanghai Municipal Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Shanghai, China., Participants: Participants were 48 patients with coronary heart disease at the hospital., Intervention: Participants were randomly divided into 2 groups (n = 24 each): a control group and an intervention group. Both groups received routine drug treatments, such as platelet inhibitors, nitrates, β-receptor blockers, statins, angiotensin-converting-enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, angiotensin II receptor antagonists (ARBs), and calcium blockers. The control group was treated with the Shexiang Baoxin Pill, while the intervention group was treated with prescription Tongxin. The course of treatment was 3 months for both groups., Outcome Measures: Changes in the density and function of EPCs in the peripheral blood of the 2 groups were measured at baseline and postintervention, and the clinical efficacy of the 2 treatments was statistically analyzed., Results: The density of EPCs was significantly higher in both groups after 3 months of treatment, compared to the densities at baseline (P < .05). The change in density between baseline and postintervention was significantly greater for the intervention group than for the control group (P < .05). For the control group, the proliferative vitality [optical density (OD)] value of the EPCs was significantly higher than that at baseline from the fourth day of treatment (P < .05). In the intervention group, the OD value was significantly higher than that at baseline from the first day of treatment (P < .05). Furthermore, the intervention group's cells began to enter the logarithmic growth phase of increase from the fifth day of treatment, and the group's increase as significantly higher than the control group's from the fifth to the seventh dayof treatment (P < .05 for all 3 days). Moreover, the total effective rate was higher in the intervention group than in the control group (P < .05)., Conclusions: Prescription Tongxin can stimulate the release of EPCs from the bone marrow to the peripheral blood of patients with CHD, can significantly increase the proliferation of EPCs in the peripheral blood, and can improve the clinical symptoms of patients. Its curative effect was greater than that of the control treatment.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic is associated with common mental health problems. However, evidence for the association between fear of COVID-19 and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is limited., Objective: This study aimed to examine if fear of negative events affects Yale-Brown Obsessive-Compulsive Scale (Y-BOCS) scores in the context of a COVID-19-fear-invoking environment., Methods: All participants were medical university students and voluntarily completed three surveys via smartphone or computer. Survey 1 was conducted on February 8, 2020, following a 2-week-long quarantine period without classes; survey 2 was conducted on March 25, 2020, when participants had been taking online courses for 2 weeks; and survey 3 was conducted on April 28, 2020, when no new cases had been reported for 2 weeks. The surveys comprised the Y-BOCS and the Zung Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS); additional items included questions on demographics (age, gender, only child vs siblings, enrollment year, major), knowledge of COVID-19, and level of fear pertaining to COVID-19., Results: In survey 1, 11.3% of participants (1519/13,478) scored ≥16 on the Y-BOCS (defined as possible OCD). In surveys 2 and 3, 3.6% (305/8162) and 3.5% (305/8511) of participants had scores indicative of possible OCD, respectively. The Y-BOCS score, anxiety level, quarantine level, and intensity of fear were significantly lower at surveys 2 and 3 than at survey 1 (P<.001 for all). Compared to those with a lower Y-BOCS score (<16), participants with possible OCD expressed greater intensity of fear and had higher SAS standard scores (P<.001). The regression linear analysis indicated that intensity of fear was positively correlated to the rate of possible OCD and the average total scores for the Y-BOCS in each survey (P<.001 for all). Multiple regressions showed that those with a higher intensity of fear, a higher anxiety level, of male gender, with sibling(s), and majoring in a nonmedicine discipline had a greater chance of having a higher Y-BOCS score in all surveys. These results were redemonstrated in the 5827 participants who completed both surveys 1 and 2 and in the 4006 participants who completed all three surveys. Objective: To investigate the factors influencing the recovery from childhood inguinal herniorrhaphy (IH)-induced vas deferens obstruction following microscopic vasovasostomy., Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data on 41 cases of microscopic vasovasostomy for obstructive azoospermia in our hospital from July 2015 to September 2018. All the patients had a history of inguinal hernia treated by IH in the childhood. We performed scrotal ultrasonography, semen analysis and seminal plasma biochemistry to confirm vas deferens obstruction preoperatively. If sperm was observed for ≥2 times in semen examination after vasovasostomy, we considered the vas deferens successfully unobstructed., Results: Microscopic vasovasostomy was successfully completed in 39 of the cases, of which2 were lost to follow-up, with a follow-up rate of 94.8% (37/39). The patients, at the mean age of (25.54 ± 2.85) years and with body mass index (BMI) of (24.92 ± 2.79) kg/m2 and post-IH time of (18.97 ± 2.58) years, were followed up for (13.05 ± 3.74) months. Successful recovery from vas deferens obstruction was observed in 78.4% (29/37) of the patients after IH, 80.0% (16/20) in the < 26-year-olds, 76.5% (13/17) in the ≥26-year-olds (P = 0.795), 75.0% (12/16) in those with BMI < 24.92 kg/m2 , 81.0% (17/21) in those with BMI ≥24.92 kg/m2 (P = 0.807), 78.6% (11/14) in those with post-IH time of < 19 years, 18.3% (18/23) in those with post-IH time of ≥19 years (P = 0.982), 60.0% (12/20) in those with sperm and 82.4% (14/17) in those without sperm found intraoperatively (P = 0.428), 42.9% (3/7) in those treated by unilateral and 82.4% (26/30) in those by bilateral vasovasostomy (P = 0.027). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed a close correlation between the operation side and postoperative recovery from vas deferens obstruction (P = 0.022)., Conclusions: For male patients undergoing microscopic vasovasostomy for childhood IH-induced vas deferens obstruction, the operation side is an independent factor influencing postoperative recovery, while age, BMI, post-IH time, and intraoperative presence or absence of sperm are not significantly correlated with it.

Two methods of TiO₂ addition were applied to prepare hydroxyapatite/TiO₂ (HA/TiO₂) composite, i.e., in-situ hydrolysis TiO₂ in HA powders (N-HA/TiO₂) and mixing commercial nano-sized HA and TiO₂ powder (C-HA/TiO₂). Effects of TiO₂ addition methods and sintering temperatures on phase, microstructure and microhardness were investigated for pressureless sintered HA/TiO₂ composites, and pure HA was investigated for comparison. Results show that TiO₂ from both in-situ hydrolysis and mixing commercial powder presented similar effects on phase structures and composition, and trended to chemically react with HA in the HA/TiO₂ composites at high sintering temperature. Weight loss for different composites was investigated by thermal analysis. Sintering behavior for two different composite was also discussed. The TiO₂ from in-situ hydrolysis can effectively enhance the TiO₂ distribution and densification for the N-HA/TiO₂ composites. Both two different composites showed typical grain growth and pore formation with the increase of sintering temperature. The N-HA/TiO₂ composite had a lower porosity, higher shrinkage and microhardness than that of C-HA/TiO₂ composite at sintering temperature from 700 °C to 1100 °C.

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a debilitating mental disorder with a prevalence of more than 7% in the US population and 12% in the military. An interaction of childhood trauma with FKBP5 (a glucocorticoid-regulated immunophilin) has been reported to be associated with PTSD in the general population. However, there are few reports on the association of FKBP5 with PTSD, particularly in important high-risk population such as the military. Here, we examined the association between four single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs; rs3800373, rs9296158, rs1360780, rs9470080) covering the FKBP5 gene and probable PTSD in US service members deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan, a high-risk military population (n = 3890) (Hines et al., 2014). We found that probable PTSD subjects were significantly more likely to carry the A-allele of rs3800373, G-allele of rs9296158, C-allele of rs1360780, and C-allele of rs9470080. Furthermore, the four SNPs were in one block of strong pairwise linkage disequilibrium (r = 0.91-0.96). Within the block there were two major haplotypes of CATT and AGCC (rs3800373-rs9296158-rs1360780-rs9470080) that account for 99% of haplotype diversity. The distribution of the AGCC haplotype was significantly higher in probable PTSD subjects compared to non-PTSD (p<.05). The diplotype-based analysis indicated that the AGCC carriers tended to be probable PTSD. Cytokines, including chemokines, are small secreted proteins, which specifically effect on the interactions and communications between cells. Pro-inflammatory cytokines are produced predominantly by activated macrophages and are involved in the upregulation of inflammatory reactions. Dysregulation of cytokines is associated with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Here, we use both before-and-after and case-control studies to search for potential chemokine biomarkers associated with PTSD onset, risk, and resilience as well as stress responses in US military service members deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. Blood samples and scores of the PTSD Checklist (PCL) were obtained from soldiers pre- and post deployment (pre, post). Forty chemokines were measured using the Bio-Plex Pro Human Chemokine Panel Assays. The before-and-after analysis showed potential markers (CCL2, CCL15, CCL22, CCL25, CXCL2, and CXCL12) are associated with PTSD onset, and CCL3, CXCL11, and CXCL16 are related to stress response. The case-control study demonstrated that CCL13, CCL20, and CXCL6 were possible PTSD risk markers, and CX3CL1 might be a resilience marker. In addition, CCL11, CCL13, CCL20, and CCL25 were correlated with the PCL scores, indicating their association with PTSD symptom severity. Our data, for the first time, suggest that these dysregulated chemokines may serve as biomarkers for PTSD onset, risk, and resilience as well as stress responses, and may benefit developing approaches not only for PTSD diagnosis but also for PTSD treatment.

Two new species of Rhabdocoela, namely Alcha sinensis n. sp. (Polycystididae) and Trigonostomum sinensis n. sp. (Trigonostomidae), were discovered from the intertidal zone of eastern Shenzhen City, China. For A. sinensis n. sp., the stylet consists of two symmetrical triangular plates and one lamellar plate. All three plates are jagged at their posterior ends. The anterior end of the stylet connects to a thick muscular layer, which causes its movement. For T. sinensis n. sp., the copulatory organ consists of a long-tubular stylet and two "T"-shaped plates (plate I and plate II). The stylet bends 120° at 25% of its length from the base and extends straight distally. Two "T" plates are connected to each other and surround the stylet. Plate I is hook-shaped at its distal end, and plate II has a similar length but only half the width of plate I. The phylogenetic (18S rDNA and 28S rDNA) results also support the establishment of these two new species. On the basis of the molecular phylogeny and morphology of the copulatory organ and bursa appendage, we propose a new categorization of the species of Trigonostomum.

Two new species of the genus Pogaina Marcus, 1954 (Provorticidae), namely Pogaina sinensis n. sp. and Pogaina shenzhenensis n. sp. are described from brackish water in the intertidal zone of Shenzhen Bay. For P. sinensis n. sp., the tubular stylet is slightly curved at the distal end and a fusiform structure with a flange is present at 66% of the stylet. The flange encircles the stylet, with its ends attached to the midpoint and the distal end of the stylet. For P. shenzhenensis n. sp., the stylet has a N-shaped overall morphology. A band provided with dense needle-like structures is present at the distal end of the stylet. Both the morphological (stylet) and phylogenetic (18S rDNA and 28S rDNA) analyses support the establishment of these two new species.

Hostility is a common form of emotionally charged anger which can lead to maladaptive and unhealthy behaviors. Significant association between shortened telomeres and greater levels of hostility has been observed in civilian populations, but has not yet been comprehensively studied in military populations. Our study investigates the relationship between hostility, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and leukocyte telomere length (LTL) in a sample of United States Army Special Operations personnel (n = 474) who deployed to Iraq and/or Afghanistan as part of combat operations. Hostility was measured with five items from the Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI). PTSD was determined using the PTSD Checklist (PCL) total score. The LTL was assessed using quantitative polymerase chain reaction methods and regression analyses were conducted to determine the association of hostility and telomere length. PTSD subjects reported higher hostility scores compared with those without PTSD. Among the participants with PTSD, those with medium or high level of hostility had shorter LTL than those with low level hostility (P < 0.01). Stepwise regression indicated that hostility level and age, but not gender and PTSD, were negatively correlated with LTL. Univariate regression showed that total hostility score was negatively associated with LTL (CI= -0.06 to -0.002, Beta= -0.095, p < 0.039) as well as a significant correlation between LTL and hostility impulses (HI) (CI= -0.108 to -0.009, Beta= -0.106, p < 0.021) and hostility controlling (HC) (CI= -0.071 to -0.002, Beta= -0.095, p < 0.004). Multiple regression analyses revealed that, while HC has no significant association with LTL, HI was still negatively correlated with LTL (p = 0.021). Our data indicates that LTL is associated with HI levels. Prevention and treatment efforts designed to reduce hostility may help mitigate risk for LTL shortening, a process of cellular aging, and thus slow accelerated aged-related health outcomes., (Published by Elsevier B.V.)

Mid-infrared (MIR) and near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy combined with chemometrics were explored to classify Cabernet Sauvignon wines from different countries (Australia, Chile and China). Commercial wines (n = 540) were scanned in transmission mode using MIR and NIR, and their characteristic fingerprint bands were extracted at 1750-1000 cm -1 and 4555-4353 cm -1 . Through the identification system of Tri-step infrared spectroscopy, the correlation between macroscopic chemical fingerprints and geographical regions was explored more deeply. Furthermore, Principal component analysis (PCA), soft independent modelling of class analogy (SIMCA) and discriminant analysis (DA) based on MIR and NIR spectra were used to visualize or discriminate differences between samples and to realize geographical origin traceability of Cabernet Sauvignon wines. Through "external test set (n = 157)" validation, SIMCA models correctly classified 97%, 97% and 92% of Australian, Chilean and Chinese Cabernet Sauvignon wines, while the DA models correctly classified 86%, 85% and 77%, respectively. Based on unique digital fingerprints of spectroscopy (FT-MIR and FT-NIR) associated with chemometrics, geographical origin traceability was achieved in a more comprehensive, effective and rapid manner. The developed database models based on IR fingerprint spectroscopy with chemometrics could provide scientific basis and reference for geographical origin traceability of Cabernet Sauvignon wines (Australia, Chile and China).

Objective: Suicide is one of the ten leading causes of death in United States and the suicide rate in the military population has increased since the start of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. However, few biomarkers for current suicidal ideation (CSI) have been identified. The current study examined the association of four candidate genes with CSI in active duty US Army Special Operations Command and National Guard units (n = 3,889) who served in Iraq and Afghanistan between November 2009 and July 2014., Methods: Current PTSD symptoms and CSI were assessed using the PTSD Checklist (PCL) and PHQ-9, respectively. Traumatic events were assessed using items from the Life Events Checklist (LEC) that met the DSM-IV PTSD criteria of a traumatic stressor. All genotypes of saliva DNA were discriminated using the TaqMan 5'-exonuclease assay., Results: The associations between CSI and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), FK506 binding protein (FKBP5), catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT), or S100A10 (p11) were examined. We found CSI was associated with BDNF (OR = 1.5, 95% CI = 1.5-1.8, P = 0.0002), but not FKBP5, COMT and p11. Female soldiers reported CSI more often than males (χ2 = 7.403, p = 0.0065), although gender did not affect CSI severity. In addition, associations were found between CSI and depression, PTSD, and BDNF, but not traumatic events. The BDNF Val66Met contributed to the severity of CSI even after adjusting to PTSD, depression and LEC., Conclusions: The associations of BDNF with CSI and its severity suggest that BDNF may be a predictor of suicidal risk and present an opportunity to develop laboratory tools with clinical implications in suicide prevention and treatment., (Published by Elsevier Ltd.)

Objective: To investigate the correlation between male libido and the levels of serum reproductive hormones., Methods: We collected the clinical data on 134 men complaining of low or decreased sexual desire at our clinic of andrology from January 2013 to July 2018. According to the scores on the 13-item Self-Rating Libido Scale for Males (SRLS-M), we divided the subjects into a low libido (n = 68) and a normal libido group (n = 66), none with thyroid and adrenal diseases, liver and kidney diseases, or administration of drugs affecting sexual function and reproductive hormones in the past two weeks. We compared the age, history and course of disease, SRLS-M scores, levels of serum T, E2, LH, FSH and PRL, and T/E2 ratio between the two groups, and analyzed the correlation of the parameters obtained with the SRLS-M scores of the patients by Pearson correlation analysis., Results: Compared with the males of the normal libido group, the low-libido patients showed a significantly longer course of disease (［1.83 ± 0.44］ vs ［2.91 ± 0.08］ yr, P < 0.05), but lower SRLS-M score (31.47 ± 1.28 vs 19.56 ± 0.89, P < 0.01), T level (［17.51 ± 3.68］ vs ［11.46 ± 1.62］ nmol/L, P < 0.01) and T/E2 ratio (17.27 ± 3.94 vs 12.42 ± 1.38, P < 0.01). No statistically significant differences were found between the normal and low libido groups in age (［32.22 ± 2.29］ vs ［31.98 ± 2.19］ yr) or the levels of E2 (［103.97 ± 15.70］ vs ［94.45 ± 10.37］ pmol/L), FSH (［9.98 ± 5.26］ vs ［7.43 ± 3.84］ IU/L), LH (［5.70 ± 3.17］ vs ［5.20 ± 3.37］ IU/L), or PRL (［281.96 ± 82.68］ vs ［371.85 ± 243.38］ mIU/L). Pearson correlation analysis showed that the SRLS-M scores of the patients in the normal and low libido groups were positively correlated with the T level (r = 0.329 and 0.535, P<0.01) and T/E2 ratio (r = 0.542 and 0.603, P<0.01), and so was the T level with E2 (r = 0.743 and 0.644, P<0.01) and T/E2 (r = 0.387 and 0.618, P<0.01). The areas under the ROC curves for T, E2 and T/E2 were 0.660, 0.527 and 0.669, respectively. A T/E2 ratio of 12.15－15.73 exhibited a relatively high sensitivity (>0.5) and specificity (>0.5) in the diagnosis of low libido., Conclusions: The T level and T/E2 ratio are important factors, and E2 may also be a factor, influencing male libido, which, however, is more correlated with T/E2. A T/E2 ratio of 12.15－15.73 may be an indicator of normal libido, while a lower or higher T/E2 ratio may suggests low libido.

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a chronic, debilitating mental disorder afflicting more than 7% of the US population and 12% of military service members. Since the Afghanistan and Iraq wars, thousands of US service members have returned home with PTSD. Despite recent progress, the molecular mechanisms underlying the pathology of PTSD are poorly understood. To promote research on PTSD (especially its molecular mechanisms) and to set a molecular basis for discovering novel medications for this disorder, well-validated animal models are needed. However, to develop PTSD animal models is a challenging process, due to predisposing factors such as physiological, behavioral, emotional, and cognitive changes that emerge after trauma. Currently, there is no well-validated animal model of PTSD, although several stress paradigms mimic the behavioral symptoms and neurological alterations seen in PTSD. In this chapter, we will provide an overview of animal models of PTSD including learned helplessness, footshock, restraint stress, inescapable tail shock, single-prolonged stress, underwater trauma, social isolation, social defeat, early-life stress, and predator-based stress. We emphasize rodent models because they reproduce some of the behavioral and biotical phenotypes seen in PTSD. We will also present data showing that homologous biological measures are increasingly incorporated in studies to assess markers of risk and therapeutic response in these models. Therefore, PTSD animal models may be refined in hopes of capitalizing on the understanding of the molecular mechanisms and delivering tools in order to develop new and more efficacious treatments for PTSD.

This study aims to examine the relationship between the duration of untreated psychosis (DUP) and 14-year outcomes of schizophrenia in a Chinese rural area. Participants with schizophrenia (n = 510) were identified in an epidemiological investigation of 123 572 people aged 15 years and older in 1994 and followed up in 2008 in Xinjin, Chengdu, China. Longer DUP (>6 months) was common in participants (27.3%). In 1994, participants with DUP ≤ 6 months were more likely to have a significantly lower rate of suicide attempts, shorter duration of illness and higher rate of full remission compared with those with DUP > 6 months. No significant differences were found regarding the rates of survival, suicide, death due to other causes and homelessness between individuals with shorter and longer DUP in 2008. Nevertheless, longer DUP (>6 months) of participants in 2008 was significantly associated with higher mean of PANSS total negative and general mental scores, longer duration of illness and higher rate of live alone in the logistic regression model. Earlier identification, treatment and rehabilitation, and family intervention should be addressed when developing mental health policies and delivering community mental health services., (Copyright © 2018 Elsevier B.V. One new species and one newly recorded species of Polycystididae from China, Paulodora sinensis n. sp. and Polycystis ali Schockaert, 1982, were described based on comprehensive morphological and molecular analyses. In Paulodora sinensis n. sp., the stylet is double-walled and is composed of a funnel-shaped proximal part and a spiral distal part, while the outer stylet forms a minor fold proximally. In Polycystis ali Schockaert, 1982, the stylet is also double-walled with a funnel-shaped proximal part. However, the collar-shaped distal part is partially concave and forms a jagged edge. The concatenated 18S rDNA and 28S rDNA phylogenetic analysis supports the establishment of the new species. Besides, based on the morphology of stylet, we have made detailed categorization among the recorded species within these two genera.

Due to the high similarity in their requirements for space and food, close bacterial relatives may be each other's strongest competitors. Close bacterial relatives often form visible boundaries to separate their swarming colonies, a phenomenon termed colony-merger incompatibility. While bacterial species are known to have many incompatible strains, it is largely unclear which traits lead to multiple incompatibilities and the interactions between multiple incompatible siblings. To investigate the competitive interactions of closely related incompatible strains, we mutated Myxococcus xanthus DK1622, a predatory bacterium with complex social behavior. From 3392 random transposon mutations, we obtained 11 self-identification (SI) deficient mutants that formed unmerged colony boundaries with the ancestral strain. The mutations were at nine loci with unknown functions and formed nine independent SI mutants. Compared with their ancestral strain, most of the SI mutants showed reduced growth, swarming and development abilities, but some remained unchanged from their monocultures. When pairwise mixed with their ancestral strain for co-cultivation, these mutants exhibited improved, reduced or unchanged competitive abilities compared with the ancestral strain. The sporulation efficiencies were affected by the DK1622 partner, ranging from almost complete inhibition to 360% stimulation. The differences in competitive growth between the SI mutants and DK1622 were highly correlated with the differences in their sporulation efficiencies. However, the competitive efficiencies of the mutants in mixture were inconsistent with their growth or sporulation abilities in monocultures. We propose that the colony-merger incompatibility in M. xanthus is associated with multiple independent genetic loci, and the incompatible strains hold competitive interaction abilities, which probably determine the complex relationships between multiple incompatible M. xanthus strains and their co-existence strategies.

Inter-particle bonding formation which determines qualities of nano-scale ceramic coatings is influenced by particle collision behaviors during high velocity collision processes. In this study, collision behaviors between nano-scale TiN particles with different diameters were illuminated by using Molecular Dynamics simulation through controlling impact velocities. Results show that nano-scale TiN particles exhibit three states depending on particle sizes and impact velocities, i.e., bonding, bonding with localized fracturing, and rebounding. These TiN particles states are summarized into a parameter selection map providing an overview of the conditions in terms of particle sizes and velocities. Microstructure results show that localized atoms displacement and partial fracture around the impact region are main reasons for bonding formation of nano-scale ceramic particles, which shows differences from conventional particles refining and amorphization. A relationship between the adhesion energy and the rebound energy is established to understand bonding formation mechanism for nano-scale TiN particle collision. Results show that the energy relationship is depended on the particle sizes and impact velocities, and nano-scale ceramic particles can be bonded together as the adhesion energy being higher than the rebound energy.
