This study explored the alteration in kisspeptin and reproductive hormones during different superovulation protocols (SOP) in dromedary camel. The kisspeptin and reproductive hormonal profile, ovarian response, and the quality and quantity of embryos in dromedary camel donors were evaluated. A total of thirty donor camels were divided into two groups: the 5dSOP group, which received diluent containing 400 mg pFSH dissolved in 20 ml and administered two times daily for 5 days at decreasing doses (2.5, 2, 1.5, and 1 ml); and the 3dSOP group, which received diluent containing 400 mg pFSH dissolved in 12 ml and administered two times daily for 3 days at decreasing doses (3 ml, 2 ml, and 1 ml). Ultrasonography was used to monitor the ovarian environment, recording daily follicle count and dimensions and the time taken for follicles to mature. On the sixth day after mating, a corpus luteum (CL) count was conducted. On the 8th day after mating, records of the quantity and quality of embryos collected were kept. Blood samples from the jugular vein were collected at the commencement of the superovulation protocol and at 8:00 a.m. for the following 48 h to measure the concentrations of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), estradiol (E2), kisspeptin (KP), and progesterone (P4). The findings indicated that the 3dSOP yielded superior results compared to the 5dSOP in terms of follicle quantity and size, as well as the quantity of CL and embryos. This improvement was attributed to significantly higher concentrations of reproductive hormones, including FSH, LH, E2, kisspeptin, and P4 (P ≤ 0.05), in the 3dSOP than in the 5dSOP. In conclusion, reducing the duration of superovulation protocols contributed to the proliferation of follicles with improved dimensions and counts, ultimately resulting in a greater quantity of embryos of superior quality. Birdsong is a relatively well-studied behavior, both due to its importance as a model for vocal production learning and as an intriguing complex social behavior. Until the last few decades, work on birdsong focused almost exclusively on males. However, it is now widely accepted that female song not only exists, but is fairly common throughout the oscine passerines. Despite this, and the large number of researchers who have begun exploring female song in the field, researchers in the lab have been slow to adopt model species with female song. Studying female song in the lab is critical for our understanding of sex-specific factors in the physiology controlling this fascinating behavior. Additionally, as a model for vocal production learning in humans, understanding the mechanistic and neuroendocrine control of female song is clearly important. In this study, we examined the red-cheeked cordon bleu (RCCB), an Estrildid finch species with extensive female song. Specifically, we found that there were no significant sex differences in circulating levels of testosterone and progesterone, nor in song production rate. There were no significant differences in cell densities in the three nuclei of the song control system we examined. Additionally, the volume of the robust nucleus of the arcopallium was not significantly different and we report the smallest sex difference in HVC yet published in a songbird. Hormones are specific molecules measured in biological fluids by elaborate analytical systems requiring meticulous attention. Variation between laboratories can be expected. However, recently published measurements of AVP, OXT, and BNP in human plasma under basal/control conditions include numbers which, between publications, vary by 100–10 000‐fold. Generally, the methods descriptions are scant, at best, and provide no information about quality control measures. Clearly, two results describing the same basal hormone concentration by numbers three orders of magnitude apart are incongruent providing reason for concern. Basal concentrations of bioactive AVP, OXT, and BNP in human plasma are in the order of 1–10 pmol/L. Therefore, assay systems applied to plasma must be able to measure concentrations of less than 1 pmol/L with appropriate specificity and accuracy. Basal concentrations of AVP, OXT, and BNP above 100 pmol/L should be reconsidered, as such results do not reflect bioactive hormone levels in humans, rats, or mice. What do tests performed on human bodies tell us? Hormones and genetics have become increasingly central to contemporary understandings of identities and kinship. In this article, narratives around hormone and genetic testing are examined through two examples: the use of DNA testing in migration control and hormone testing in sports. In the name of "fair sport" and "fair migration", people are being tested because of regulations by the federation or by the state. Testing is said to produce better knowledge, where knowledge without testing is unreliable and defined as a problem which constitutes a risk to fair participation or belonging. In the narratives examined in this article, there is a simultaneous stabilization and destabilization of identity, gender and race. We argue for a slightly different articulation of molecularization, compared to how it has previously been conceptualized in canonized scholarly work. When considered as strategic and entangled with gender, race, and sexuality, molecularization appears as not only a development within or from biopolitics but also as a part of necropolitics. The temperature dependence of the heat capacity of betamethasone valerate in the range from 5.5 to 346 K was measured for the first time by precise vacuum adiabatic calorimetry. The thermodynamic functions of betamethasone valerate, namely, heat capacity, enthalpy H°(T) – H°(0), entropy S°(T) – S°(0), and Gibbs function G°(T) – H°(0) were determined for the temperature range from T → 0 to 350 K based on the experimental data. Adolescent transgender medicine is a growing clinical field. Gender‐affirming medications for transgender youth may include gonadotropin‐releasing hormone (GnRH) agonists, gender‐affirming hormones or both. To evaluate the potential effects of GnRH agonists (puberty suppression) on pharmacokinetic processes for transgender youth, we searched PubMed from inception to May 2024 for publications on the effects of GnRH agonists on drug absorption, distribution, metabolism or excretion for transgender adolescents or effects on hormones (including gonadotropins, adrenal androgens, sex steroids) that are associated with changes in drug metabolism during puberty in the general adolescent population. No publications discussed the effects of GnRH agonist treatment on pharmacokinetic processes for adolescent transgender people. Sixteen publications observed marked decreases in gonadotropins and sex steroids for both adolescent transgender men and adolescent transgender women and slight effects on adrenal androgens. During GnRH agonist treatment, changes in body composition and body shape were greater for adolescent transgender people than for cisgender adolescent people. Further research is needed to better understand the effects of GnRH agonists on drug metabolism and other pharmacokinetic processes for transgender adolescents receiving GnRH agonists and other gender‐affirming medications. Objective: To explore the distribution and differences in the intestinal microbiota in girls with obesity-related precocious puberty and the relationship between intestinal microbiota and obesity-related precocious puberty. Methods: 16 S rRNA gene amplicons from fecal samples from girls with precocious puberty and obesity-complicated precocious puberty and healthy children were sequenced to define microbial taxa. Results: The α- and β-diversity indices of the microbiome significantly differed among the three groups. At the phylum level, the proportions of Firmicutes, Actinobacteriota, Bacteroidota, Bacteria, Campylobacterota, and Acidobacteriota were different. At the genus level, there were differences in Bifidobacterium, Bacteroides, Anaerostipes, Fusicatenibacter, Klebsiella, Lachnospiraceae, ErysipelotrichaceaeUCG-003, Prevotella9, Ruminococcus gnavus group, and Lachnoclostridium. Additionally, Bifidobacterium, Anaerostipes, Bacteroides, Candidatus Microthrix, Eubacterium hallii group, Klebsiella, and Erysipelotrichaceae UCG-003 were identified as bacterial biomarkers by LEfSe. Furthermore, Sellimonas, Intestinibacter, Anaerostipes, Ruminococcus gnavus group, and Oscillibacter were identified as the differential biomarkers by random forest. A receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to evaluate the biomarkers with high predictive value for obesity-related precocious puberty. Spearman correlation analysis confirmed that Anaerostipes levels were negatively correlated with body weight, body mass index (BMI), bone age, luteinizing hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone, and estradiol. Conclusions: There was a significant correlation between obesity-associated precocious puberty and gut microbiota, especially the functional characteristics of the microbiome and its interactions, which can provide a theoretical basis for the clinical intervention of obesity and precocious puberty through the microbiome. Hormonal changes in pregnant and lactating women significantly affect bone metabolism and overall stress levels, positioning them as a unique group within the orthodontic population. Fluctuations in estrogen, progesterone, prolactin, and other hormones are closely linked to bone remodeling and the periodontal tissue's response to inflammation caused by dental plaque. Hormones such as thyrotropin, leptin, and melatonin also play crucial roles in pregnancy and bone remodeling, with potential implications for orthodontic tooth movement. Additionally, adverse personal behaviors and changes in dietary habits worsen periodontal conditions and complicate periodontal maintenance during orthodontic treatment. Notably, applying orthodontic force during pregnancy and lactation may trigger stress responses in the endocrine system, altering hormone levels. However, these changes do not appear to adversely affect the mother or fetus. This review comprehensively examines the interaction between hormone levels and orthodontic tooth movement in pregnant and lactating women, offering insights to guide clinical practice. Cyclic ADP‐ribose (cADPR) has emerged as a calcium‐regulating second messenger in smooth muscle cells. CD38 protein possesses ADP‐ribosyl cyclase and cADPR hydrolase activities and mediates cADPR synthesis and degradation. We have previously shown that CD38 expression is regulated by estrogen and progesterone in the myometrium. Considering hormonal regulation in gestation, the objective of the present study was to determine the role of CD38/cADPR signaling in the regulation of intracellular calcium upon contractile agonist stimulation using immortalized pregnant human myometrial (PHM1) cells. Western blot, immunofluorescence, and biochemical studies confirmed CD38 expression and the presence of ADP‐ribosyl cyclase (2.6 ± 0.1 pmol/mg) and cADPR hydrolase (26.8 ± 6.8 nmoles/mg/h) activities on the PHM1 cell membrane. Oxytocin, PGF2α, and ET‐1 elicited [Ca2+]i responses, and 8‐Br‐cADPR, a cADPR antagonist significantly attenuated agonist‐induced [Ca2+]i responses between 20% and 46% in average. The findings suggest that uterine contractile agonists mediate their effects in part through CD38/cADPR signaling to increase [Ca2+]i and presumably uterine contraction. Introduction: Maturation in seawater-adapted (smoltified) male Atlantic salmon is undesirable yet frequently reported in fish weighing up to 1 kg reared under intensive conditions in land-based facilities. Although the photoperiod regulates both smoltification and maturation, the optimal post-smoltification regimen for the prevention of maturation is unclear. Methods: In this study, mixed-sex Atlantic salmon weighing 95 g were exposed to three different photoperiod regimes: continuous daylength, gradually decreasing daylength, and short-to-long daylength after the induction of smoltification by the "winter signal" (12 h:12 h light:dark). Fish were maintained under these conditions in triplicate for 18 weeks in a brackish water flow-through system at 12℃ and with a salinity of 20 ppt. This initial phase was followed by a grow-out period (1 kg-2.5 kg) in seawater (32-ppt salinity) at 13℃ for 11 weeks, with exposure to decreasing daylength. Throughout the 29-week study, body condition, gonad development, and morphological traits were assessed. Additionally, during exposure to brackish water, serum 11-ketotestosterone (11-KT) levels were quantified, and the testes were examined histologically. Upon termination of the study, the maturation rate was determined. Results: This study exclusively detected maturation among male salmon. Under continuous light exposure, the number of fish initiating maturity steadily increased from week 8 and continued to increase in the subsequent samplings. In the short-to-long daylength group, a subset of male fish showed elevated 11-KT levels at week 14, although their gonadal development and morphological changes were not evident until week 18. Male fish exposed to decreasing daylength showed no substantial increase in 11-KT levels, although a few fish exhibited advanced gonad development by week 18. At the end of the trial, markedly lower percentages of maturing and fully mature male fish were observed among those fish previously exposed to decreasing daylength. The maturation rates at study termination were 44.4% for the short-to-long daylength group, 29.4% for the continuous daylength group, and 4.3% for the decreasing daylength group. Discussion: These results show that photoperiod can be utilized to regulate maturation in male Atlantic salmon. In addition, decreasing the photoperiod after smoltification seems to limit early sexual maturation without compromising body size development. The correlation between peripheral and seminal hormones and biochemical parameters with sperm kinematics across seasons in buffalo bulls were studied. Semen from buffalo bulls (n = 13) during different seasons viz. summer, comfort (spring and autumn) and winter was collected. Sperm kinematics of ejaculates (n = 39) (three ejaculates per bull) were carried out during each season and simultaneously blood (10 mL) was collected and serum was separated for hormones (leptin, testosterone and kisspeptin) and biochemical [heat shock protein 70 (HSP70), ascorbic acid and total antioxidant capacity] estimation. Total motility (TM, %), progressive motility (PM, %) and rapid motility (RM, %) showed significant differences across seasons with the highest TM, PM and RM during winter. HSP70 was higher in seminal plasma levels during summer and TAC was higher in serum than seminal plasma during all seasons. Like the ovaries and prostate, the thyroid exhibits characteristic hormone secretion and regulation. Thyroid cancer (TC), especially differentiated thyroid carcinoma, has typical sex-specific and age-specific hormone-driven clinical features. Previous research has primarily focused on the effects of thyroid stimulating hormone, thyroid hormones, and estrogens on the onset and progression of TC, while the roles of growth hormone (GH), androgens, and glucocorticoids have largely been overlooked. Similarly, few studies have investigated the interactions between hormones and hormone systems. In fact, numerous studies of patients with acromegaly have shown that serum levels of GH and insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) may be associated with the onset and progression of TC, although the influences of age, sex, and other risk factors, such as obesity and stress, remain unclear. Sex hormones, the GH/IGF axis, and glucocorticoids are likely involved in the onset and progression of TC by regulating the tumor microenvironment and metabolism. Jasmonic acid (JA) and salicylic acid (SA) phytohormone pathways are important regulators of stress tolerance. Knowledge regarding the diversity, phylogeny and functionality of wheat genes involved in JA and SA response is limited.Using Arabidopsis, rice and wheat genomic and wheat disease transcriptomic data, we deduced the size, phylogenetic diversity and pathogen‐responsiveness of seven hormone‐responsive gene families, and thus selected 14 candidates as potential hormone responsive gene markers. Gene‐specific expression studies assessed the impact of exogenous JA and SA on their transcriptional activation in leaves of two distinct wheat cultivars. RNAseq data were interrogated to assess their disease responsiveness and tissue‐specific expression.This study elucidated the number, phylogeny and pathogen‐responsiveness of wheat genes from seven families, including 12 TaAOS, 6 TaJAMyb, 256 TaWRKY group III, 85 TaPR1, 205 TaPR2, 76 TaPR3 and 124 TaPR5. This included the first description of the wheat AOS, JAMyb, PR2, PR3 and PR5 gene families. Gene expression studies delineated TaAOS1‐5B and TaJAMyb‐4A as JA‐responsive in leaves, but not significantly responsive to SA treatment, while TaWRKY45‐B was a SA‐ but not a JA‐responsive marker. Other candidate genes were either unresponsive or non‐specific to SA or JA.Our findings highlight that all seven gene families are greatly expanded in wheat as compared to other plants (up to 7.6‐fold expansion), and demonstrate disparity in the response to biotic stress between some homoeologous and paralogous sequences within these families. Tension wood is a specialized xylem tissue associated with gravitropism in angiosperm trees. However, few regulators of tension wood formation have been identified. The molecular mechanisms underpinning tension wood formation remain elusive. Here, we report that a Populus KNOTTED-like homeobox gene, PagKNAT2/6b , is involved in tension wood formation and gravity response. Transgenic poplar plants overexpressing PagKNAT2/6b displayed more sensitive gravitropism than controls, as indicated by increased stem curvature. Microscopic examination revealed greater abundance of fibre cells with a gelatinous cell wall layer (G-layer) and asymmetric growth of secondary xylem in PagKNAT2/6b overexpression lines. Conversely, PagKNAT2/6b dominant repression plants exhibited decreased tension wood formation and reduced response to gravity stimulation. Moreover, sensitivity to gravity stimulation showed a negative relationship with development stage. Expression of genes related to growth and senescence was affected in PagKNAT2/6b transgenic plants. More importantly, transcription activation and electrophoretic mobility shift assays suggested that PagKNAT2/6b promotes the expression of cytokinin metabolism genes. Consistently, cytokinin content was increased in PagKNAT2/6b overexpression plants. The signals that regulate peripheral blood vessel formation during development are still under investigation. The hormone leptin promotes blood vessel formation, adipose tissue establishment and expansion, tumor growth, and wound healing, but the underlying mechanisms for these actions are currently unknown. We investigated whether leptin promotes angiogenesis in the developing tail fin using embryonic transgenic xflk-1:GFP Xenopus laevis, which express a green fluorescent protein on vascular endothelial cells to mark blood vessels. We found that leptin protein is expressed in endothelial cells of developing blood vessels and that leptin treatment via injection increased phosphorylated STAT3 signaling, which is indicative of leptin activation of its receptor, in blood vessels of the larval tail fin. Leptin administration via media increased vessel length, branching, and reconnection with the cardinal vein, while decreased leptin signaling via immunoneutralization had an opposing effect on vessel development. We also observed disorganization of major vessels and microvessels of the tail fin and muscle when leptin signaling was decreased. Reduced leptin signaling lowered mRNA expression of cenpk , gpx1 , and mmp9 , markers for cell proliferation, antioxidation, and extracellular matrix remodeling/cell migration, respectively, in the developing tail, providing insight into three possible mechanisms underlying leptin's promotion of angiogenesis. Together these results illustrate that leptin levels are correlated with embryonic angiogenesis and that leptin coordinates multiple aspects of blood vessel growth and development, showing that leptin is an important morphogen during embryonic development. Drought stress severely restricts crop yields. Changes in root morphology and function are critical to rice performance under drought conditions, affecting water uptake efficiency, hormone regulation, and nutrient absorption. This study explores the responses of two rice lines, IZ036 with a small root system and IZ144 with a large root system, to drought stress (soil water potential of – 30 ± 5 kPa). The results showed that drought stress significantly inhibited the growth and yield of both rice lines by 35.6–58.1%. Under drought stress, the root-to-shoot ratio of IZ144 increased by 17.8–68.0%, while IZ036 decreased by 10.2–59.1%. While IZ036 experienced a significant reduction in leaf water potential under drought stress, no such impact was observed in IZ144. Both varieties exhibited altered tissue anatomy under drought stress, including, reduced leaf vascular size, increased proportion of vascular bundles in root cross-section, and changes in root thickness. Notably, IZ036 displayed cell and vessel shrinkage and leaf deformation. In response to drought stress, both rice lines exhibited elevated concentrations of auxin, salicylic acid and abscisic acid (ABA) in leaves and increased ethylene and gibberellin (GA) in roots. Notably, IZ144 had significantly higher ABA, cytokinin (CTK), GA, and auxin levels in leaves and CTK in roots than IZ036. Overall, our findings highlight the superior drought tolerance of IZ144 over IZ036, as evidenced by enhanced physiological and anatomical performances and more effective hormone distribution in leaves and roots, indicating the importance of root size in determining drought stress resilience in rice. Introduction: Akirin as a highly conserved transcription factor, exerts a profound influence on the growth, development, immune response, and reproductive processes in animals. The brown planthopper (BPH), Nilaparvata lugens, a major pest in rice production in Asia, possesses high reproductive capacity, a critical factor contributing to reduced rice yields. The aims of this study were to demonstrate the regulatory role of Akirin in the reproduction of BPH. Methods: In this study, quantitative PCR (qPCR) was used to detect the mRNA expression of genes. RNA interference (RNAi) was used to downregulate the expression of Akirin gene, and RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) was used to screen for differentially expressed genes caused by Akirin downregulation. Hormone contents were measured with the enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and protein content was evaluated with the bicinchoninic acid (BCA) method. Results: Using BPH genome data, we screened for an Akirin gene (NlAkirin). An analysis of tissue-specific expressions showed that NlAkirin was expressed in all tissues tested in female BPH, but its expression level was highest in the ovary. After inhibiting the mRNA expression of NlAkirin in BPH females, the number of eggs laid, hatching rate, and number of ovarioles decreased. Transcriptome sequencing was performed, following a NlAkirin double-stranded RNA treatment. Compared with the genes of the control, which was injected with GFP double-stranded RNA, there were 438 upregulated genes and 1012 downregulated genes; the expression of vitellogenin (Vg) and vitellogenin receptor (VgR) genes as well as the mRNA expression of genes related to the target of rapamycin (TOR), juvenile hormone (JH), and insulin pathways involved in Vg synthesis was significantly downregulated. As a result of NlAkirin knockdown, the titers of JH III and Ecdysone (Ecd) were downregulated in unmated females but returned to normal levels in mated females. The ovarian protein contents in both unmated and mated females were downregulated. Discussion and conclusion: Our results suggest that NlAkirin affects female BPH reproduction by regulating the mRNA expression of genes related to the Vg, VgR, TOR, JH, and insulin signaling pathways, in addition to the titers of JH III and Ecd. Background: It is extremely essential to accurately differentiate pheochromocytoma from Adrenal incidentalomas (AIs) before operation, especially biochemical tests were inconclusive. We aimed to evaluate the value of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features to differentiate pheochromocytomas among adrenal tumors, among which the consequences of biochemical screening tests of catecholamines and/or catecholamine metabolites are positive. Methods: With institutional review board approval, this study retrospectively compared 35 pheochromocytoma (PHEO) patients with 27 non-pheochromocytoma(non-PHEO) patients between January 2022 to September 2023, among which the consequences of biochemical screening tests of catecholamines and/or catecholamine metabolites are positive. T test was used for the independent continuous data and the chi-square test was used for categorical variables. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression were applied to find the independent variate of the features to differentiate PHEO from non-PHEO and ROC analysis was applied to evaluate the diagnostic value of the independent variate. Results: We found that the T2-weighted (T2W) signal intensity in patients with pheochromocytoma was higher than other adrenal tumors, with greatly significant (p < 0.001). T2W signal intensity ratio (T2W nodule-to-muscle SI ratio) was an independent risk factor for the differential diagnosis of adrenal PHEOs from non-PHEOs. This feature alone had 91.4% sensitivity and 81.5% specificity to rule out pheochromocytoma based on optimal threshold, with an area under the receiver operating characteristics curve (AUC‑ROC) of 0.910(95% C I: 0.833–0.987). Chronic kidney disease (CKD) causes specific hormonal disturbances, such as variations in leptin and testosterone levels and function. These disturbances can promote errors in signaling interaction and cellular information processing and can be implicated in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis. This study investigates the factors that affect leptin in CKD patients and examines how leptin is related to markers of vascular disease. We conducted a cross-sectional study of 162 patients with CKD in pre-dialysis and dialysis stages. We recorded clinical and laboratory data, including leptin, testosterone, and subclinical atherosclerosis markers like brachial–ankle pulse wave velocity (ba PWV) in pre-dialysis CKD patients and flow-mediated vasodilation (FMD) and nitroglycerin-mediated vasodilation (NMD) in hemodialysis (HD) patients. Leptin was significantly correlated with testosterone in CKD pre-dialysis stages (p < 0.001) and also in HD (p = 0.026), with adipose tissue mass in pre-dialysis stages (p < 0.001), and also in HD (p < 0.001). In women HD patients, leptin correlated with NMD (p = 0.039; r = −0.379); in all HD patients, leptin correlated with C reactive protein (p = 0.007; r = 0.28) and parathormone (p = 0.039; r = −0.220). Our research emphasizes the connection between leptin, adipose tissue, and testosterone in all stages of CKD. Female mosquitoes produce eggs in gonadotrophic cycles that are divided between a previtellogenic and vitellogenic phase. Previtellogenic females consume water and sugar sources like nectar while also being attracted to hosts for blood feeding. Consumption of a blood meal activates the vitellogenic phase, which produces mature eggs and suppresses host attraction. In this study, we tested the hypothesis that neuropeptide Y-like hormones differentially modulate host attraction behavior in the mosquito Aedes aegypti. A series of experiments collectively indicated that enteroendocrine cells (EECs) in the posterior midgut produce and release neuropeptide F (NPF) into the hemolymph during the previtellogenic phase which stimulates attraction to humans and biting behavior. Consumption of a blood meal, which primarily consists of protein by dry weight, down-regulated NPF in EECs until mature eggs developed, which was associated with a decline in hemolymph titer. NPF depletion depended on protein digestion but was not associated with EEC loss. Other experiments showed that neurons in the terminal ganglion extend axons to the posterior midgut and produce RYamide, which showed evidence of increased secretion into circulation after a blood meal. Injection of RYamide-1 and -2 into previtellogenic females suppressed host attraction, while coinjection of RYamides with or without short NPF-2 also inhibited the host attraction activity of NPF. Overall, our results identify NPF and RYamide as gut-associated hormones in A. aegypti that link host attraction behavior to shifts in diet during sequential gonadotrophic cycles. Red onion is a vegetable commodity that has high economic value. The use of red onion as an ingredient in Indonesian cuisine produces waste in the form of onion skin which is rarely utilized and often discarded. The content of auxin, gibberellin and cytokinin hormones in red onion skin turns the material into a potential plant growth regulator. This study aims to determine the effect of application and the best concentration of red onion skin soak on the growth and production of pakcoy. This research was conducted in the Greenhouse of Agroecotechnology Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Lambung Mangkurat University from September to November 2022. This study used a single-factor Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 5 replications. The results showed that the application of red onion skin soak affected the growth of pakcoy at 21 HST and 28 HST. There was no best concentration found, because the concentration of red onion skin soaking 20%, 30%, and 40% did not show significant differences. The recommendation for the application of red onion skin soak to support pakcoy growth is a concentration of 20% followed by the application of organic fertilizer at the appropriate dose. Giardiasis is a parasitic disease caused by Giardia lamblia (G. lamblia) that affects people worldwide. Still, few studies report on the immunoregulatory effects of the biomolecules of colostrum during interactions with G. lamblia. This study aimed to assess the concentrations of melatonin and cortisol hormones, the percentage of Treg cells, and the levels of cytokines IL-10 and TGF-β in colostrum from mothers who tested positive for the parasite. This cross-sectional study analyzed colostrum samples from 25 puerperal. The samples were tested using an ELISA to determine if they were seropositive for G. lamblia and the type of antibody present (IgM and IgG). Based on the results, the samples were divided into three groups: a control group (N = 10) with no reaction to either IgM or IgG, a group seropositive for IgG (IgG+/IgM−; N = 8), and a group seropositive for IgM (IgM+/IgG−; N = 7). The concentrations of melatonin and cortisol were measured using the ELISA method. Additionally, cytokines IL-10 and TGF-β and immunophenotyping were analyzed using flow cytometry. In the group that tested positive for IgM anti-G. lamblia, the concentration of melatonin was lower. However, in the colostrum from mothers who tested positive for IgG anti-G. lamblia, the level of this hormone had increased. The cortisol levels were similar between the groups, regardless of seropositivity. There was a higher percentage of Treg cells in the colostrum from mothers who tested positive for IgM anti-G. lamblia. TGF-β levels also increased in the colostrum of mothers who tested positive for IgM anti-G. lamblia. In the seronegative group for G. lamblia, there was a positive correlation between melatonin concentration and the percentage of Treg cells. These data suggest that the increase in regulatory cells and cytokines and the reduction in melatonin in colostrum from mothers with recent giardia infection may contribute to the evolution and manifestation of the disease. Blue nevus is a type of uncommon benign pigmented lesion in the skin or the mucosa of human body which is featured by pigmented dendritic melanocytes and spindled melanocytic cells. Sinonasal blue nevus is extremely rare. We reported a sinonasal blue nevus case with the background of pituitary adenoma, type 2 diabetes mellitus, and hypertension (including endoscopic and histological pictures). Further, the existing literature about blue nevus is reviewed. Polycystic ovary syndrome or PCOS is an endocrine disorder in women of reproductive age. It is a diversified multi factorial disorder and diagnosis is very complicated because of its overlapping symptoms some of which are irregular menstrual cycle, acne in face, excess level of androgen (AE), insulin resistance, obesity, cardiovascular disease, mood disorder and type 2 diabetes (T2DM). PCOS may be caused by hormonal imbalance, genetic and epigenetic vulnerability, hypothalamic and ovarian troubles. PCOS is essentially hyperandrogenimia with oligo‐anovulation. This review explains the abnormal regulation of autophagy related genes and proteins in different cells at various stages which leads to the genesis of PCOS. During nutrient starvation cells face stress condition, which it tries to overcome by activating its macroautophagy mechanism and by degrading the cytoplasmic material. This provides energy to the cell facilitating its survival. Downregulation of autophagy related genes in endometria has been observed in PCOS women. PCOS can be managed by maintaining proper lifestyle and medical treatment. Healthy meals and regular exercise can prevent the excessive weight and also reduce the PCOS complications. Medicines such as metformin, clomiphene, and the oral contraceptive pill can also balance the hormonal level. Maize is an important crop used for food, feed, and fuel. Abiotic stress is an important factor affecting maize yield. The EPF/EPFL gene family encodes class-specific secretory proteins that play an important role in the response to abiotic stress in plants. In order to explore and utilize the EPF/EPFL family in maize, the family members were systematically identified, and their chromosomal localization, physicochemical properties, cis-acting element prediction in promoters, phylogenetic tree construction, and expression pattern analysis were carried out using bioinformatics techniques. A total of 18 ZmEPF/EPFL proteins were identified in maize, which are mostly alkaline and a small portion acidic. Subcellular localization results showed that ZmEPF6, ZmEPF12, and ZmEPFL2 are localized in the nucleus and cytoplasm. Analysis of cis-acting elements revealed that members of the ZmEPF/EPFL family contain regulatory elements such as light response, anoxic, low temperature, and hormone response regulatory elements. RT-qPCR results showed that these family members are indeed responding to cold stress and hormone treatments. Introduction: The researchers have been forcing to investigate and find an edible alternative high forage quality plant that has a well-tolerated instinct against adverse environmental conditions. Alhagi, a genus of Fabaceae is one of the most important halophyte plants in the world, as an industrial forage product used in the near future, medicinal production and pharmaceutical use. There are many reasonable that Alhagi plants productivity and satisfactory yield requires good seed germination and seedling establishment. Generally, germination and seedling establishment is the most decisive stage of Alhagi plants life cycle to environmental stress. Moderate to severe salinity stress is main abiotic causes of Alhagi plants productivity loss at the seedling growth stage. High accumulation of Na+ and Cl- ions cause various negative influences that impact Alhagi production, such as delays in the response of the plant to environmental conditions, retardation of germination, growth and development, inhibition of enzymatic activities and accumulation of some compatible osmolyte. In addition, to the salinity stress, the seed germination, seedling establishment and total dry matter production in Alhagi plants occurs depends on a seed priming and type of species. However, few research studies have so far investigated the impact of different seed priming on the total dry matter production as well as some physiological responses in Alhagi species. Materials and methods: Two separate experiments was conducted to investigate seed priming (non-priming, hydro priming, hormonal priming with 50 ppm gibberellin and hydro priming + hormonal priming with 50 ppm gibberellin) and different salinity levels (urban water source with EC=0.96 dS.m-1, 8 and 16 dS.m-1 using seawater Persian Gulf) on seed germination, dry matter and some physiological response of Alhagi species (Alhagi maurorum Esfahan ecotype and A. graecorum Khuzestan ecotype). The first experiment (seed germination) was carried on in the petri dish culture and second experiment (in the pot) at the field conditions was performed under split factorial experiments were conducted based on a randomized complete block design with four replications in Department of Plant Production and Genetics, Faculty of Agriculture, Shahid Chamran University (Ahwaz, Iran) during 2020-21. Meanwhile, during research, after calculating of the leaching fraction, EC of the root environment was controlled three times with an interval of one month by preparing a saturated extract from the pot bed and only in the third sampling was performed a leaching in the treatments of 16 dS m-1, with a salinity level lower than the studied treatment (8 ds.m-1). Results and discussion: The results showed a significant effect of salinity x priming x species interaction on all studied traits except for transpiration rate, Na and K content. In the case of transpiration rate, only the effects of salinity and priming were significant. Mean comparison results showed that the highest amount of seed germination, total dry matter, net photosynthesis rate, sub-stomata CO2 concentration, photosynthetic water use efficiency and number of leaves per plant in A. graecorum Khuzestan ecotype under Nonsalinity stress and Hydro priming + Hormonal priming with 50 ppm gibberellin treatment (increased by 29.1, 1.52, 26.8, 98.7, 15.6 and 38.8 percent respectively compared to the Non-priming and Nonsalinity stress treatment in the A. maurorum Esfahan ecotype). The highest level of mesophilic conductance was observed in A. graecorum Khuzestan ecotype under Non-priming and 8 dS.m-1 salinity stress treatment (with an average of 0.492 mmol CO2.m-2.s-1). Conclusion: In this experiment, results showed significant differences in total dry weight, net photosynthesis rate, transpiration rate, sub-stomata CO2 concentration, mesophyll conductance and photosynthetic water use efficiency between two Alhagi species at different salinity conditions using Persian Gulf water. Indeed, dry matter and photosynthesis traits in both Alhagi species responded negatively to increasing salinity levels and increasing of salinity up to, 8 dS m-1 induce the loss in physiological responses. Among the priming treatments, the hydro priming + hormonal priming with 50 ppm gibberellin showed a more favorable condition in the two Alhagi species in terms of the studied traits. Finally, in cultivation and development of Alhagi species for breeding programs in saline coastal lands and for the restoration of pastures, according to the results, A. graecorum Khuzestan ecotype under the combined treatment as hydro priming + hormonal priming with 50 ppm gibberellin, recommended for high production. Nitrogen (N) is an essential mineral element for plants and is the main component of protein, nucleic acid, phospholipid, chlorophyll, hormones, vitamins and alkaloids. It is involved in all stages of plant growth and development. Low-N stress seriously hinders plant growth and reduces yield and quality. Plants have evolved a series of elaborate regulatory mechanisms for N uptake and assimilation to cope with different soil N states. After N is absorbed and utilized by plants, it plays important regulatory roles in phytohormones, microRNA (miRNA), root development and mycorrhizal symbiosis to cope with environmental stress. Here, we highlight the research progress on the regulation mechanisms for N absorption and assimilation. Then, we emphasize the regulation roles of N regarding hormone signals, miRNA, lateral root growth, drought resistance, anthocyanin synthesis and mycorrhizal symbiosis. A thorough understanding of N uptake, utilization and interaction with other biological processes is helpful to improve N use efficiency and to breed plants with "less-input-more-output". Lipoxygenase (LOX) is associated with responses to plant hormones, environmental stresses, and signaling substances. Methyl jasmonate (MeJA) treatment triggers the production of LOX, polyphenol oxidase, and protease inhibitors in various plants, producing resistance to herbivory. To examine the response of MtLOX24 to MeJA, the phenotypic and physiological changes in Medicago truncatula MtLOX24 overexpression and lox mutant plants were investigated. Additionally, wild-type R108, the MtLOX24-overexpressing line L4, and the mutant lox-1 were utilized as experimental materials to characterize the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and metabolic pathways in response to MeJA. The results indicate that after treatment with 200 µM of MeJA, the damage in the mutants lox-1 and lox-2 was more serious than in the overexpressing lines L4 and L6, with more significant leaf wilting, yellowing, and oxidative damage in lox-1 and lox-2. Exogenous application of MeJA induced H2O2 production and POD activity but reduced CAT activity in the lox mutants. Transcriptome analysis revealed 10,238 DEGs in six libraries of normal-growing groups (cR108, cL4, and clox1) and MeJA-treated groups (R108, L4, and lox1). GO and KEGG functional enrichment analysis demonstrated that under normal growth conditions, the DEGs between the cL4 vs. cR108 and the clox-1 vs. cR108 groups were primarily enriched in signaling pathways such as plant–pathogen interactions, flavonoid biosynthesis, plant hormone signal transduction, the MAPK signaling pathway, and glutathione metabolism. The DEGs of the R108 vs. cR108 and L4 vs. cL4 groups after MeJA treatment were mainly enriched in glutathione metabolism, phenylpropanoid biosynthesis, the MAPK signaling pathway, circadian rhythm, and α-linolenic acid metabolism. Among them, under normal growth conditions, genes like PTI5, PR1, HSPs, PALs, CAD, CCoAOMT, and CYPs showed significant differences between L4 and the wild type, suggesting that the expression of these genes is impacted by MtLOX24 overexpression. CDPKs, CaMCMLs, IFS, JAZ, and other genes were also significantly different between L4 and the wild type upon MeJA treatment, suggesting that they might be important genes involved in JA signaling. This study was conducted to assess the effect of Diclofenac on the brain and serum hormones of Heteroclarias. The acute 96h test was carried out using graded concentrations of 4.00 mg/L, 8.00 mg/L, 12.00 mg/L and 16.00 mg/L. At various concentrations of the toxicant, uncoordinated behaviours such as erratic swimming, loss of balance and gasping for air by exposed fish was observed. In terms of endocrine disruptions, the study found that diclofenac exposure led to alterations in hormone levels. Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) showed varying responses, with both increases and decreases in different concentration groups. Luteinizing hormone (LH) exhibited no significant changes, while prolactin levels increased in higher diclofenac concentrations, potentially in response to changes in electrolyte levels. Thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) levels in the brain increased, likely due to decreased negative feedback from reduced serum thyroxine (T4) levels. In the serum, estradiol levels significantly decreased in the 4.00mg/L diclofenac group, while progesterone and testosterone levels decreased in multiple groups. Overall, this study highlights the ecological implications of diclofenac contamination in aquatic ecosystems, emphasizing the need for further research to mitigate pharmaceutical contaminant effects and protect aquatic biodiversity. Objective: There is increasing evidence that semen quality reflects the overall health status of individuals and is a marker of future health. In addition, reproductive hormones have significant regulatory effects on the immune system and the function of inflammatory cells. In this study, it was aimed to investigate whether baseline semen quality and serum reproductive hormone levels are potential indicators of susceptibility to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. Materials and Methods: The medical records of a total of 1303 patients who underwent semen analysis and hormonal evaluation including total testosterone (T), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), and prolactin (PRL) for infertility or other medical reasons, were retrospectively analyzed. Among these patients, 316 were determined to have previously been exposed to SARS-CoV-2 infection. Results: There was no statistically significant difference in baseline hormone profiles (FSH, LH, PRL, and T) and semen parameters between patients exposed to SARS-CoV-2 infection and non-exposed patients. Conclusion: This study demonstrated that baseline semen quality and serum reproductive hormone levels (T, PRL, FSH, and LH) are not indicators of susceptibility to SARS-CoV-2 infection. The ERBB tyrosine kinase receptors and their ligands belong to a complex family that has diverse biological effects and expression profiles in the developing mammary glands, where its members play an essential role in translating hormone signals into local effects. While our understanding of these processes stems mostly from mouse models, there is the potential for differences in how this family functions in the mammary glands of other species, particularly in light of their unique histomorphological features. Herein we review the postnatal distribution and function of ERBB receptors and their ligands in the mammary glands of rodents and humans, as well as for livestock and companion animals. Our analysis highlights the diverse biology for this family and its members across species, the regulation of their expression, and how their roles and functions might be modulated by varying stromal composition and hormone interactions. Given that ERBB receptors and their ligands have the potential to influence processes ranging from normal mammary development to diseased states such as cancer and/or mastitis, both in human and veterinary medicine, a more complete understanding of their biological functions should help to direct future research and the identification of new therapeutic targets.

Abstract Objective To explore the distribution and differences in the intestinal microbiota in girls with obesity-related precocious puberty and the relationship between intestinal microbiota and obesity-related precocious puberty. Methods 16 S rRNA gene amplicons from fecal samples from girls with precocious puberty and obesity-complicated precocious puberty and healthy children were sequenced to define microbial taxa. Results The α- and β-diversity indices of the microbiome significantly differed among the three groups. At the phylum level, the proportions of Firmicutes, Actinobacteriota, Bacteroidota, Bacteria, Campylobacterota, and Acidobacteriota were different. At the genus level, there were differences in Bifidobacterium, Bacteroides, Anaerostipes, Fusicatenibacter, Klebsiella, Lachnospiraceae, ErysipelotrichaceaeUCG-003, Prevotella9, Ruminococcus gnavus group, and Lachnoclostridium. Additionally, Bifidobacterium, Anaerostipes, Bacteroides, Candidatus Microthrix, Eubacterium hallii group, Klebsiella, and Erysipelotrichaceae UCG-003 were identified as bacterial biomarkers by LEfSe. Furthermore, Sellimonas, Intestinibacter, Anaerostipes, Ruminococcus gnavus group, and Oscillibacter were identified as the differential biomarkers by random forest. A receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to evaluate the biomarkers with high predictive value for obesity-related precocious puberty. Spearman correlation analysis confirmed that Anaerostipes levels were negatively correlated with body weight, body mass index (BMI), bone age, luteinizing hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone, and estradiol. Conclusions There was a significant correlation between obesity-associated precocious puberty and gut microbiota, especially the functional characteristics of the microbiome and its interactions, which can provide a theoretical basis for the clinical intervention of obesity and precocious puberty through the microbiome.

Abstract Hormonal changes in pregnant and lactating women significantly affect bone metabolism and overall stress levels, positioning them as a unique group within the orthodontic population. Fluctuations in estrogen, progesterone, prolactin, and other hormones are closely linked to bone remodeling and the periodontal tissue’s response to inflammation caused by dental plaque. Hormones such as thyrotropin, leptin, and melatonin also play crucial roles in pregnancy and bone remodeling, with potential implications for orthodontic tooth movement. Additionally, adverse personal behaviors and changes in dietary habits worsen periodontal conditions and complicate periodontal maintenance during orthodontic treatment. Notably, applying orthodontic force during pregnancy and lactation may trigger stress responses in the endocrine system, altering hormone levels. However, these changes do not appear to adversely affect the mother or fetus. This review comprehensively examines the interaction between hormone levels and orthodontic tooth movement in pregnant and lactating women, offering insights to guide clinical practice.

Abstract Background It is extremely essential to accurately differentiate pheochromocytoma from Adrenal incidentalomas (AIs) before operation, especially biochemical tests were inconclusive. We aimed to evaluate the value of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features to differentiate pheochromocytomas among adrenal tumors, among which the consequences of biochemical screening tests of catecholamines and/or catecholamine metabolites are positive. Methods With institutional review board approval, this study retrospectively compared 35 pheochromocytoma (PHEO) patients with 27 non-pheochromocytoma(non-PHEO) patients between January 2022 to September 2023, among which the consequences of biochemical screening tests of catecholamines and/or catecholamine metabolites are positive. T test was used for the independent continuous data and the chi-square test was used for categorical variables. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression were applied to find the independent variate of the features to differentiate PHEO from non-PHEO and ROC analysis was applied to evaluate the diagnostic value of the independent variate. Results We found that the T2-weighted (T2W) signal intensity in patients with pheochromocytoma was higher than other adrenal tumors, with greatly significant (p < 0.001). T2W signal intensity ratio (T2W nodule-to-muscle SI ratio) was an independent risk factor for the differential diagnosis of adrenal PHEOs from non-PHEOs. This review delves into the emerging role of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) in the pathophysiology of PCOS, articulating their intricate interactions with mRNAs, microRNAs, and other epigenetic regulators that collectively influence the hormonal and metabolic milieu of PCOS. We examine the dynamic regulatory networks orchestrated by lncRNAs that impact GC function, steroidogenesis, insulin resistance, and inflammatory pathways. By integrating findings from recent studies, we illuminate the potential of lncRNAs as biomarkers for PCOS and highlight their contribution to the disorder, offering a detailed perspective on the lncRNA-mediated modulation of gene expression and pathogenic pathways. Understanding targeted lncRNA interactions with PCOS proposes novel avenues for therapeutic intervention to ameliorate the reproductive and metabolic disturbances characteristic of the syndrome.

BACKGROUND: Osteonecrosis of the femoral head is a common and disabling disease, which is mainly characterized by microcirculation disorders and bone cell metabolism disorders. Luzhongjiangu decoction was developed by Shandong Academy of Chinese Medicine and used in the form of soup in the clinic, which has good efficacy in the treatment of osteonecrosis of the femoral head. However, its mechanism of action has not been clarified. OBJECTIVE: To study the effect mechanism of Luzhongjiangu decoction on intestinal flora in rats with osteonecrosis of the femoral head based on 16S rDNA sequencing technique. METHODS: The model of osteonecrosis of the femoral head was established in Wistar rats by intragastric administration of retinoic acid. The therapeutic effect of Luzhongjiangu decoction was evaluated by serum hormone, bone histopathology and serum hormone levels. 16s rDNA sequencing technique was used to detect the intestinal flora of rats in the blank control group, model group and middle-dose Luzhongjiangu decoction group. The corresponding library was constructed and OTU clustering and microbial community diversity and abundance analysis were carried out to determine the composition of intestinal flora and the changes of species and diversity among groups. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: Luzhongjiangu decoction could significantly increase the expression of osteocalcin, osteopontin and other osteogenic related factors, alleviate the destruction of bone trabeculae, increase bone mineral density, and had a significant therapeutic effect on osteonecrosis of the femoral head, of which the middle dose group showed the most significant effect. The results of intestinal flora sequencing showed that Luzhongjiangu decoction improved the flora disorder of rats with osteonecrosis of the femoral head to some extent, and screened out different colonies such as Bacillus, Desulfurizans, Desulfurization, Isobacteria, Bifidobacterium and so on; it could up-regulate the abundance of beneficial bacteria such as Bifidobacterium, down-regulate the abundance of harmful bacteria such as Desulfovibrio, and improve the structure of intestinal flora. Functional prediction analysis indicated that Luzhongjiangu decoction could mainly affect amino acid metabolism and energy metabolism. Correlation analysis showed that the differential bacteria of Bifidobacterium and Intestinimonas in the middle dose group of Luzhongjiangu decoction were positively correlated with vitamin D3, estradiol and calcitonin, and negatively correlated with prostaglandin E2. In the model group, Escherichia-Shigella, Desulfovibrio, Globicatella and Streptococcus were positively correlated with prostaglandin E2 and negatively correlated with vitamin D3, estradiol and calcitonin. To conclude, Luzhongjiangu decoction may play a role in the treatment of osteonecrosis of the femoral head by regulating the structure of intestinal flora, up-regulating the abundance of beneficial bacteria and affecting the secretion of vitamin D3, estradiol, calcitonin and prostaglandin E2. Maize is a valuable raw material for feed and food production. Healthy seed germination is important for improving the yield and quality of maize. Seed aging occurs relatively fast in crops and it is a process that delays germination as well as reduces its rate and even causes total loss of seed viability. However, the physiological and transcriptional mechanisms that regulate maize seeds, especially aging seed germination remain unclear. Coronatine (COR) which is a phytotoxin produced by Pseudomonas syringae and a new type of plant growth regulator can effectively regulate plant growth and development, and regulate seed germination. In this study, the physiological and transcriptomic mechanisms of COR-induced maize seed germination under different aging degrees were analyzed. The results showed that 0.001–0.01 μmol/L COR could promote the germination of aging maize seed and the growth of primary roots and shoots. COR treatment increased the content of gibberellins (GA3) and decreased the content of abscisic acid (ABA) in B73 seeds before germination. The result of RNA-seq analysis showed 497 differentially expressed genes in COR treatment compared with the control. Three genes associated with GA biosynthesis (ZmCPPS2, ZmD3, and ZmGA2ox2), and two genes associated with GA signaling transduction (ZmGID1 and ZmBHLH158) were up-regulated. Three genes negatively regulating GA signaling transduction (ZmGRAS48, ZmGRAS54, and Zm00001d033369) and two genes involved in ABA biosynthesis (ZmVP14 and ZmPCO14472) were down-regulated. The physiological test results also showed that the effects of GA and ABA on seed germination were similar to those of high and low-concentration COR, respectively, which indicated that the effect of COR on seed germination may be carried out through GA and ABA pathways. In addition, GO and KEGG analysis suggested that COR is also highly involved in antioxidant enzyme systems and secondary metabolite synthesis to regulate maize seed germination processes. In recent decades, a lot of research has been conducted to explore poultry feeding behavior. However, up to now, the processes behind poultry feeding behavior remain poorly understood. The review generalizes modern expertise about the hormonal regulation of feeding behavior in chickens, focusing on signaling pathways mediated by insulin, leptin, and ghrelin and regulatory pathways with a cross-reference to mammals. This overview also summarizes state-of-the-art research devoted to hypothalamic neuropeptides that control feed intake and are prime candidates for predictors of feeding efficiency. Comparative analysis of the signaling pathways that mediate the feed intake regulation allowed us to conclude that there are major differences in the processes by which hormones influence specific neuropeptides and their contrasting roles in feed intake control between two vertebrate clades.

Background. Diabetes mellitus is a condition that causes biochemical and physiological changes in the body. In this study, the effects of carvacrol on blood biochemical factors related to diabetes in diabetic adult rats induced by streptozocin were investigated. Methods. In this study, 32 male Wistar rats were divided into four groups as follows: a) control group; b) diabetic control group that received normal saline as a solvent; c) diabetic rats treated with 75 mg/kg carvacrol; d) healthy rats that received 75 mg/kg carvacrol. The experimental groups were induced with diabetes by injecting a single dose of 50 mg/kg streptozotocin (STZ) (Sigma) dissolved in 5 ml citrate buffer (pH=4.5) intraperitoneally. Then, fasting blood sugar, serum insulin level, serum level of fat profile, and testosterone hormones LH and FSH were measured. Results. Abstract Background Wheat is one of the important grain crops in the world. The formation of lesion spots related to cell death is involved in disease resistance, whereas the regulatory pathway of lesion spot production and resistance mechanism to pathogens in wheat is largely unknown. Results In this study, a pair of NILs (NIL-Lm5 W and NIL-Lm5 M) was constructed from the BC1F4 population by the wheat lesion mimic mutant MC21 and its wild genotype Chuannong 16. The formation of lesion spots in NIL-Lm5 M significantly increased its resistance to stripe rust, and NIL-Lm5 M showed superiour agronomic traits than NIL-Lm5 W under stripe rust infection.Whereafter, the NILs were subjected to transcriptomic (stage N: no spots; stage S, only a few spots; and stage M, numerous spots), metabolomic (stage N and S), and hormone analysis (stage S), with samples taken from normal plants in the field. Transcriptomic analysis showed that the differentially expressed genes were enriched in plant-pathogen interaction, and defense-related genes were significantly upregulated following the formation of lesion spots. Metabolomic analysis showed that the differentially accumulated metabolites were enriched in energy metabolism, including amino acid metabolism, carbohydrate metabolism, and lipid metabolism. Correlation network diagrams of transcriptomic and metabolomic showed that they were both enriched in energy metabolism. Additionally, the contents of gibberellin A7, cis-Zeatin, and abscisic acid were decreased in leaves upon lesion spot formation, whereas the lesion spots in NIL-Lm5 M leaves were restrained by spaying GA and cytokinin (CTK, trans-zeatin) in the field. Conclusion The formation of lesion spots can result in cell death and enhance strip rust resistance by protein degradation pathway and defense-related genes overexpression in wheat. Besides, the formation of lesion spots was significantly affected by GA and CTK. Altogether, these results may contribute to the understanding of lesion spot formation in wheat and laid a foundation for regulating the resistance mechanism to stripe rust.

The type of delivery influences the hormonal, emotional and mental health of the mother, which correlates positively or negatively with the health benefits of the newborn. There have been many published studies on kangaroo mother care for mothers undergoing elective cesarean section, but there is still a lack of understanding about emergency cesarean section.Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the benefits of KMC practice for mothers undergoing emergency cesarean section in terms of hormone levels such as oxytocin, cortisol, prolactin, interleukin-6 and interleukin-10.Methods: This retrospective analysis used remnant serum (KMC group = 16; control group = 9), and clinical data such as KMC practice (15– 30 minutes three or four times daily until discharge), breastfeeding initiation time, feeding time, crying time and hospital stay were extracted from the electronic database. All hormone and cytokine expressions were quantitatively determined by ELISA. Comparisons within and between groups were performed using appropriate statistical tests.Results: In the KMC group, increased levels of the hormone oxytocin significantly reduced cortisol and IL-6 and negatively influenced prolactin and IL-10 levels. The elevated prolactin facilitates overall lactation behaviour, of which 64% reported breastfeeding directly at the breast. The cytokine analysis revealed a reduction in pro-inflammatory cytokines and thereby an improved wound healing was seen in the KMC group.Conclusion: These quantitative results strongly encourage the use of KMC for mothers undergoing emergency cesarean section. Abstract Background Blueberry fruit exhibit atypical climacteric ripening with a non-auto-catalytic increase in ethylene coincident with initiation of ripening. Further, application of ethephon, an ethylene-releasing plant growth regulator, accelerates ripening by increasing the proportion of ripe (blue) fruit as compared to the control treatment. To investigate the mechanistic role of ethylene in regulating blueberry ripening, we performed transcriptome analysis on fruit treated with ethephon, an ethylene-releasing plant growth regulator. Results RNA-Sequencing was performed on two sets of rabbiteye blueberry (‘Powderblue’) fruit: (1) fruit from divergent developmental stages; and (2) fruit treated with ethephon, an ethylene-releasing compound. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) from divergent developmental stages clustered into nine groups, among which cluster 1 displayed reduction in expression during ripening initiation and was enriched with photosynthesis related genes, while cluster 7 displayed increased expression during ripening and was enriched with aromatic-amino acid family catabolism genes, suggesting stimulation of anthocyanin biosynthesis. More DEGs were apparent at 1 day after ethephon treatment suggesting its early influence during ripening initiation. Overall, a higher number of genes were downregulated in response to ethylene. Many of these overlapped with cluster 1 genes, indicating that ethylene-mediated downregulation of photosynthesis is an important developmental event during the ripening transition. Analyses of DEGs in response to ethylene also indicated interplay among phytohormones. Ethylene positively regulated abscisic acid (ABA), negatively regulated jasmonates (JAs), and influenced auxin (IAA) metabolism and signaling genes. Phytohormone quantification supported these effects of ethylene, indicating coordination of blueberry fruit ripening by ethylene. Conclusion This study provides insights into the role of ethylene in blueberry fruit ripening. Ethylene initiates blueberry ripening by downregulating photosynthesis-related genes. Also, ethylene regulates phytohormone-metabolism and signaling related genes, increases ABA, and decreases JA concentrations. Together, these results indicate that interplay among multiple phytohormones regulates the progression of ripening, and that ethylene is an important coordinator of such interactions during blueberry fruit ripening.
