Increasing use of ground rubber, especially in paving asphalt, has made it important to develop an accurate way to measure the surface area of ground rubber materials. A theoretical method devised by S. Brunauer, P.H. Emmett and E. Teller, known as the B.E.T. surface analyzer, is most often used because of its straight-forward applicability and ease of use. Research, including five replicate tests each on two groups of ground rubber materials, showed that the B.E.T. analyzer worked well to measure the specific surface area of the ground rubber products and that repetition of the tests was useful.
