The article discusses the truth and myths found in the advertising of alkaline remedies. According to the author the advertisements of alkaline remedies are nearly always inaccurate, which is probably due to the ignorance and indifference of the writers of the advertisements. The author points out 44 facts about the advertising of alkaline remedies and subjects related to the advertising of alkaline remedies. Some of the topics he looks at include basic medicinal facts, basic psychological facts about advertising drugs, and economic aspects of the misleading advertising.

The article presents a lecture by L. J. Henderson, delivered in the course Business Policy I at Harvard Business School on November 14, 1933. Henderson talks about what happens when two or more people carry on a conversation. He says that people need an adequate conceptual scheme as well as an adequate method for conversing about anything in a logical manner. He states that there are two forms of reasoning and action, logical and nonlogical, and presents several examples of each. He also discusses the effects of protectionist tariffs and free trade.

We determined the relative mobility of Rb+in four similar soils of different structural types by replicated undisturbed and constructed soil columns (repacked). The soils are designated as Cumulic Haplustolls, fine-loamy, mixed, thermic. The soils have similar mineralogical composition and are classed as sandy clay loams. The structural types of the soils were (1) weak, coarse prismatic; (2) moderate, angular blocky; (3) moderate, medium subangular blocky; and (4) moderate, medium granular. Rubidium concentrations were determined in solutions withdrawn via ceramic cups at different depths and times and in sectioned column extracts at the conclusion of the experiment. The data show that Rb+moved 1.4 to 1.6 times deeper in the soils with coarse structural units and that there were no significant differences between the soils with medium-sized structural units and the constructed soil columns.

A sealed chamber digestion (SCD) method was developed as a rapid and simple means of tissue digestion for micro‐samples. The objective of this study was to test SCD against other digestion methods used for plant‐tissue analyses. Sealed chamber digestion, dry ash combustion, nitric/perchloric acid wet ash digestion, and sulfuric acid/hydrogen peroxide wet ash digestion methods were evaluated for efficacy of organic matter destruction for elemental analysis of plant tissues. Eight tissue standards were collected from the National Bureau of Standards, the University of Georgia, and the Everglades Research and Education Center, University of Florida. The objective of this study was to compare the previously reported SCD method with other digestion methods used for plant tissue analyses. With the exception of analysis for Al and Fe, comparison of methods of analyses indicated that SCD did not differ greatly from other digestion methods. Digestion method efficacy, as determined by nutrient analysis, appeared to reflect the plant material digestibility and digestion method. The advantages and disadvantages of the methods studied are discussed.

In this paper there are reported studies of the acid-base equilibrium in systems containing gluten suspended in solution of hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide. The studies have involved measurements of the hydrogen ion concentration, of the electrical conductivity, and of the solution of the proteins. Further, measurements have been made of the swelling and of the viscosity of the gluten component of such systems. The results seem to show that simple chemical phenomena are most important in such systems, and that the modifications of these, resulting from colloidal and heterogeneous characteristics, are of secondary importance in determining the condition of equilibrium, though somewhat more significant in the progress of the system toward the condition of equilibrium.
