- Abstract
Experiments and computational simulations have been performed as part of a larger project to instil trust in computational methods for design of hydraulics flows in spillways. Presented in this licenciate is one manuscript and two conference papers. The first conference paper details experiments done at Älvkarleby of a multiple outlet spillway model with an inlet channel specifically designed to contain interesting hydraulic features. The results indicate that simulations agree well with experiments. In the second conference paper acoustic doppler velocimetry measurements (ADV) were done and compared to simulations of a racetrack flume with a fish passageway at Älvkarleby. The results showed agreement but due to inlet conditions of the experiment some discrepancies were noticed. The manuscript presents experiments of a wider range of flow in the experimental flume of the first conference paper, with additional ADV measurements. Preliminary conclusions are that discrepancies can be due to inlet conditions. A short summary of further work is included.

The problem of poor reproducibility of scientific findings has received much attention over recent years, in a variety of fields including psychology and neuroscience. The problem has been partly attributed to publication bias and unwanted practices such as p‐hacking. Low statistical power in individual studies is also understood to be an important factor. In a recent multisite collaborative study, we mapped brain anatomical left–right asymmetries for regional measures of surface area and cortical thickness, in 99 MRI datasets from around the world, for a total of over 17,000 participants. In the present study, we revisited these hemispheric effects from the perspective of reproducibility. Within each dataset, we considered that an effect had been reproduced when it matched the meta‐analytic effect from the 98 other datasets, in terms of effect direction and significance threshold. In this sense, the results within each dataset were viewed as coming from separate studies in an “ideal publishing environment,” that is, free from selective reporting and p hacking. We found an average reproducibility rate of 63.2% (SD = 22.9%, min = 22.2%, max = 97.0%). As expected, reproducibility was higher for larger effects and in larger datasets. Reproducibility was not obviously related to the age of participants, scanner field strength, FreeSurfer software version, cortical regional measurement reliability, or regional size. These findings constitute an empirical illustration of reproducibility in the absence of publication bias or p hacking, when assessing realistic biological effects in heterogeneous neuroscience data, and given typically‐used sample sizes., Region‐wise effect sizes and reproducibility rates of hemispheric asymmetry effects. In general, effects with higher effect sizes showed higher reproducibility, given the same conditions (e.g., sample size and data heterogeneity).

- Abstract
Common risk factors for psychiatric and other brain disorders are likely to converge on biological pathways influencing the development and maintenance of brain structure and function across life. Using structural MRI data from 45,615 individuals aged 3-96 years, we demonstrate distinct patterns of apparent brain aging in several brain disorders and reveal genetic pleiotropy between apparent brain aging in healthy individuals and common brain disorders.

- Abstract
ImportanceBetween-individual variability in brain structure is determined by gene-environment interactions, possibly reflecting differential sensitivity to environmental and genetic perturbations. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies have revealed thinner cortices and smaller subcortical volumes in patients with schizophrenia. However, group-level comparisons may mask considerable within-group heterogeneity, which has largely remained unnoticed in the literature. ObjectivesTo compare brain structural variability between individuals with schizophrenia and healthy controls and to test whether respective variability reflects the polygenic risk score (PRS) for schizophrenia in an independent sample of healthy controls. Design, Setting, and ParticipantsThis case-control and polygenic risk analysis compared MRI-derived cortical thickness and subcortical volumes between healthy controls and patients with schizophrenia across 16 cohorts and tested for associations between PRS and MRI features in a control cohort from the UK Biobank. Data were collected from October 27, 2004, through April 12, 2018, and analyzed from December 3, 2017, through August 1, 2018. Main Outcomes and MeasuresMean and dispersion parameters were estimated using double generalized linear models. Vertex-wise analysis was used to assess cortical thickness, and regions-of-interest analyses were used to assess total cortical volume, total surface area, and white matter, subcortical, and hippocampal subfield volumes. Follow-up analyses included within-sample analysis, test of robustness of the PRS threshold, population covariates, outlier removal, and control for image quality. ResultsA comparison of 1151 patients with schizophrenia (mean [SD] age,33.8[10.6] years; 68.6% male [n=790] and 31.4% female [n=361]) with 2010 healthy controls (mean [SD] age,32.6[10.4] years; 56.0% male [n=1126] and 44.0% female [n=884]) revealed higher heterogeneity in schizophrenia for cortical thickness and area (t = 3.34)

Hemispheric asymmetry is a cardinal feature of human brain organization. Altered brain asymmetry has also been linked to some cognitive and neuropsychiatric disorders. Here the ENIGMA consortium presents the largest ever analysis of cerebral cortical asymmetry and its variability across individuals. Cortical thickness and surface area were assessed in MRI scans of 17,141 healthy individuals from 99 datasets worldwide. Results revealed widespread asymmetries at both hemispheric and regional levels, with a generally thicker cortex but smaller surface area in the left hemisphere relative to the right. Regionally, asymmetries of cortical thickness and/or surface area were found in the inferior frontal gyrus, transverse temporal gyrus, parahippocampal gyrus, and entorhinal cortex. These regions are involved in lateralized functions, including language and visuospatial processing. In addition to population-level asymmetries, variability in brain asymmetry was related to sex, age, and brain size (indexed by intracranial volume). Interestingly, we did not find significant associations between asymmetries and handedness. Finally, with two independent pedigree datasets (N = 1,443 and 1,113, respectively), we found several asymmetries showing modest but highly reliable heritability. The structural asymmetries identified, and their variabilities and heritability provide a reference resource for future studies on the genetic basis of brain asymmetry and altered laterality in cognitive, neurological, and psychiatric disorders.Significance StatementLeft-right asymmetry is a key feature of the human brain's structure and function. It remains unclear which cortical regions are asymmetrical on average in the population, and how biological factors such as age, sex and genetic variation affect these asymmetries. Here we describe by far the largest ever study of cerebral cortical brain asymmetry, based on data from 17,141 participants. We found a global anterior-posterior 'torque' pattern in cortical thickness, together with various regional asymmetries at the population level, which have not been previously described, as well as effects of age, sex, and heritability estimates. From these data, we have created an on-line resource that will serve future studies of human brain anatomy in health and disease.

12. CFD simulations of Luleälven : An examination of CFD as a tool forevaluating restoration possibilities of regulated dredgedrivers

- Abstract
Dredged rivers remain from when lumber was floated downriver for processing and shipping purposes. This has left parts of some rivers in Sweden with shallow rocky beaches and deep central furrows. Restoration efforts of dredged unregulated rivers has shown positive results for fish populations. This report compares, by use of CFD two regulated parts of Luleälven, one dredged and one natural. The report looks at habitats where the Riverine Grayling prefers to lay its eggs and evaluates whether velocity and depth conditions could give an explanation for the lower population of the Riverine Grayling in the dredged river. For the water levels tested, usable areas exist for all cases, but the dredged river has substantially smaller areas suitable as a habitat. The river geometry seems to be the large issue for Mattisudden as its shallow wide riverbanks are not conducive to habitats for the Riverine Grayling. Surprisingly the "lower" test case for the dredged river showed a larger usable area than for the "higher" water level, for the same river and higher usable area than the natural river. For this case the water level is now so low that the shallow wide riverbanks are above the water level and only the central furrow is filled with water. This shows two avenues that can be used to improve the habitats for the Riverine Grayling, lower the water level, or raise the riverbanks.

- Abstract
Agile methodologies are becoming increasingly more popular among developers. However, there is little known research regarding the competences of working in development projects. This led me to my research question, what competences are considered important for working in agile projects? I narrowed down my research to three categories of competence; social, functional and cognitive. In order to gather the information needed for the study, I interviewed developers with and extensive knowledge and experience from working in agile development projects. The results from the study revealed that there is a need for a broad set of competences for working in agile development projects. This study is intended to contribute to the literature on competences is systems development by exploring the competence requirements for systems developers working in agile methods.

Objective: Accumulating evidence implicates immune activation in the development of schizophrenia. Here, monocyte numbers, monocyte chemoattractant protein‐1 (MCP‐1) and chitinase‐3‐like protein 1 (YKL‐40) were investigated in plasma and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in first‐episode psychosis (FEP) patients. Method: CSF and blood were sampled from 42 first‐episode psychosis (FEP) patients and 22 healthy controls. The levels of YKL‐40 and MCP‐1 were measured using electrochemiluminescence assay, and blood monocytes were counted using an XN‐9000‐hematology analyzer. Results: We found higher plasma levels of MCP‐1 and YKL‐40 in FEP patients compared with healthy controls, a condition that was unrelated to antipsychotic and/or anxiolytic medication. This was combined with an increased number of blood monocytes and a borderline significant increase in YKL‐40 levels in the CSF of tobacco‐free FEP patients. Plasma or CSF chemokines or blood monocytes did not correlate with the severity of symptoms or the level of functioning. Conclusion: These data demonstrate activation of monocytes in FEP and strengthens the idea of an immune dysfunction of psychotic disorders. Further studies are required to perceive a role of YKL‐40 and MCP‐1 in the initiation and progression of schizophrenia. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

project management ,multi-projects - Abstract
With projects being a common way of working in modern organizations, multi-projects has become a more frequent occurrence and brought new situations that organizations need to handle. Research shows that project managers don‟t have complete understanding on how to handle multi-projects and the problems that can arise. In this thesis a qualitative study was conducted with five project managers from different organizations who had experience from working in multi-projects. Interviews were performed in order to plot the challenges and to identify how they were handled. Four areas of importance were pinpointed; project phases, composing teams, absence of multi-project management systems within the organizations and finally choice of project methods. The findings are to be thought of as guiding principles for organizations and project managers that experience concerns regarding multi-projects.

In the study we explore how both the IT department and the IT support works by interviewing present and former employees at the local IT department. The current IT department have undergone a series of local changes over the last 20 years, the department has gone from only having internal users to getting the entire municipalitiy’s agencies of IT as users. It started with how the municipality began to dig down fiber optic cable in the middle of the 1990’s, and today has started to develop solutions as to how to meet the demands of future usage of IT. The goal of this study is to contribute to getting a better understanding of how IT-support has changed over time when the work assignments has increased. The main impact that we have identified is the development of IT-solutions and the increase of employees IT competence.
