Clinical data, including sex, age, allergic comorbidities (allergic asthma, allergic rhinitis, and atopic dermatitis), and serum allergen-specific immunoglobulin E (sIgE), were collected from the electronic medical record (EMR). The categorical variables were compared with the chi-square test. The characteristics of allergens in children of different ages and comorbidities were analyzed by trend chi-square. The sensitivity level of HDM associated with AC and comorbidities was assessed by odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals of logistic regression analysis.Results: A total of 2972 children (2015 boys and 957 girls) with AC were included in the study. The mean age was 3.78 (0.5~12) years. The most common allergen was house dust mite(HDM) (43.41%). With age, the positive rate for inhaled allergens gradually increased, and the positive rate for ingested allergens decreased. With the number of comorbidities increasing, the positive rates of sensitization were 38.33%, 74.51%, 80.72%, and 89.05%, and the incidence of polysensitization was 44.66%, 56.48%, 59.54%, and 74.59%, respectively. With the increase of HDM-sIgE level, the number of comorbidities and the risk increased gradually.Conclusion: HDM is the most common allergen in AC children of different ages. High levels of HDM-sIgE may be a predictor for allergic comorbidities. Children with polysensitization and high levels of HDM sIgE will be an important target population for future intervention in other allergy-related disease prevention.Keywords: allergic conjunctivitis, specific IgE, allergic comorbidity, house dust mite, children

Abstract

The branching fraction of the ψ(2S) decay into τ+τ - has been measured for the first time using the BES detector at the Beijing Electron-Positron Collider. The result is Bττ=(2.710. 43±0.55)× 10-3, where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic. This value, along with those for the branching fractions into e+e- and μ+ μ- of this resonance, satisfy well the relation predicted by the sequential lepton hypothesis. Combining all these values with the leptonic width of the resonance, the total width of the ψ(25) is determined to be (252±37) keV. ©2002 The American Physical Society.

Abstract

The first measurement of (Formula presented) and an upper limit for (Formula presented) are determined from 22.3 (Formula presented) of (Formula presented) annihilation data at a c.m. energy of 4.03 GeV. The data were recorded by the Beijing Spectrometer (BES) at BEPC. A recoil charge method is applied to charm threshold data to determine the charge of the D meson in the recoil from (Formula presented) reconstructed (Formula presented) (Formula presented) mesons. The branching fractions (Formula presented) and (Formula presented) are determined from 10 events with a reconstructed D and a recoiling (Formula presented) In addition, a 90% C.L. upper limit of (Formula presented) is determined from a search for semileptonic decays of the (Formula presented) © 2000 The American Physical Society.

Abstract

Using a sample of 3.8 M (Formula presented) events accumulated with the BES detector, the process (Formula presented) is studied. The angular distributions are compared with the general decay amplitude analysis of Cahn. We find that the dipion system requires some D wave amplitude, as well as S wave. On the other hand, the (Formula presented) relative angular momentum is consistent with being pure S wave. The decay distributions have been fit to heavy quarkonium models, including the Novikov-Shifman model. This model, which is written in terms of the parameter (Formula presented) predicts that D wave pions should be present. We determine (Formula presented) based on the joint (Formula presented) distribution. The fraction of D wave amplitude as a function of (Formula presented) is found to decrease with increasing (Formula presented) in agreement with the model. We have also fit the Mannel-Yan model, which is another model that allows D wave pions. © 2000 The American Physical Society.

Abstract

The cross section for charmed meson production at √s=4.03 and 4.14 GeV has been measured with the Beijing Spectrometer. The measurement was made using 22.3 pb-1 of e+e- data collected at 4.03 GeV and 1.5 pb-1 of e+e- data collected at 4.14 GeV. Inclusive observed cross sections for the production of charged and neutral D mesons and momentum spectra are presented. Observed cross sections were radiatively corrected to obtain tree level cross sections. Measurements of the total hadronic cross section are obtained from the charmed meson cross section and an extrapolation of results from below the charm threshold. ©2000 The American Physical Society.

Abstract

Hadronic decays of the P-wave spin-triplet charmonium states (Formula presented) are studied using a sample of (Formula presented) decays collected by the BES detector operating at the BEPC storage ring. Abstract

A sample of 3.79 × 106ψ(2S) events is used to study the decays of charmonium to axial-vector plus pseudoscalar mesons. The branching fraction for the decay ψ(2S) → b±1(1235)π∓ agrees with expectations based on scaling the corresponding J/ψ branching fraction. Flavor-SU(3)-violating K1(1270)- K1(1400) asymmetries with opposite character for ψ(2S) and J/ψ decays are observed. This contrasting behavior cannot be accommodated by adjustments of the singlet-triplet mixing angle. © 1999 The American Physical Society.

Abstract

The decays of the ψ(2S) into vector plus tensor meson final states have been studied for the first time using the BES detector. We determine upper limits on branching fractions for ψ(2S) decays into ωf2, ρa2, K*0K*02 + c.c., and φf'2(1525) that are, in each case, significantly smaller than the corresponding branching fractions for the J/ψ meson, scaled according to the expectations of perturbative QCD. © 1998 The American Physical Society.

Abstract

The processes ψ(2S) → I π+ π−, γK+ K−, and γpp¯ have been studied using a sample of 3.79 × 106 ψ(2S) decays. We determine the total width of the χc0 to be γtotχc0 = 14.3 ± 2.0 ± 3.0 MeV. We present the first measurement of the branching fraction B(χc0 → pp¯) = (15.9 ± 4.3 ± 5.3) × 10−5, where the first error is statistical and the second one is systematic. Branching fractions of χc0, 2 → π+ π− and K+ K− are also reported. © 1998 American Physical Society.

Abstract

A search is performed for the production of the (Formula presented) in (Formula presented) annihilation at a center-of-mass energy of 4.03 GeV using the BES detector operated at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider (BEPC). The kinematic features of the reconstructed (Formula presented) signal are consistent with its being produced only in association with an energetic photon resulting from initial state radiation (ISR). Limits are placed on (Formula presented) production from the decay of unknown charmonia or metastable hybrids that might be produced in (Formula presented) annihilations at 4.03 GeV. Under the assumption that the observed cross section for (Formula presented) production is due entirely to ISR, the partial width (Formula presented) of the (Formula presented) is measured to be (Formula presented). © 1998 The American Physical Society.

Abstract

In a sample of 7.8 million J/ψ decays collected in the Beijing Spectrometer, the process J/ψ→γηcis observed for five different ηcdecay channels: K+K-π+π-, π+π-π+π-, K±KS0π∓ (with KS0→π+π-), φφ (with φ→K+K-) and K+K-π0. From these signals, we determine the mass of ηcto be 2976.6±2.9 ±1.3 MeV. Combining this result with a previously reported result from a similar study using ψ(2S)→γηcdetected in the same spectrometer gives mηc=2976.3±2.3±1.2 MeV. For the combined samples, we obtain Γηc=11.0±8.1±4.1 MeV. ©2000 The American Physical Society.

Abstract

Hadronic decays of the P-wave spin-triplet charmonium states χcJ(J=0,1,2) are studied using a sample of ψ(2S) decays collected by the BES detector operating at the BEPC storage ring. Branching fractions for the decays χc1→Ks0K+π-+c.c., χc0→Ks0Ks0, χc2→Ks0Ks0, χc0→φφ, χc2→φφ and χcJ→K+K-K+K-are measured for the first time, and those for χcJ→π+π-π+π-, χcJ→π+π-K+K-, χcJ→π+π-pp̄ and χcJ→3(π+π-) are measured with improved precision. In addition, we determine the masses of the χc0and ηcto be Mχc0=3414.1±0.6(stat)±0.8(syst) MeV and Mηc=2975.8±3.9(stat)±1.2(syst) MeV. ©1999 The American Physical Society.

Abstract

We present a study of the structure of hadronic events recorded by the L3 detector at center-of-mass energies of 130 and 136 GeV. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 5 pb(-1) collected during the high energy run of 1995. The shapes of the event shape distributions and the energy dependence of their mean values are well reproduced by QCD models. From a comparison of the data with resummed O(alpha(s)(2)) QCD calculations, we determine the strong coupling constant to be alpha(s)(133 GeV) = 0.107 +/- 0.005(exp) +/- 0.006(theor).

Abstract

We have searched for anomalous Z --> gamma gamma gamma events with the L3 detector at LEP. No significant deviations from the expected QED e(+)e(-)-->gamma gamma gamma events are observed. The branching ratio upper limit for a composite Z decaying directly into three photons is found to be 1.0 x 10(-1) at 95% C.L. The branching ratio upper limits for the process Z-->gamma X,X-->gamma gamma are in the range of 0.4 to 1.3 x 10(-5), depending on the mass and width of the scalar particle X. In the context of a model with magnetic monopoles coupling to the Z, we find BR(Z-->gamma gamma gamma) < 0.8 x 10(-5) at 95% C.L; this results in a lower mass limit of 510 GeV for a magnetic monopole.

Abstract

We report on a detailed study of the energy and particle flow in the event plane of three-jet events q(q) over barg$ and radiative two-jet events in hadronic Z decays recorded with the L3 detector. We find a significant decrease in particle and energy density in the angular region between quark and antiquark jets for q(q) over barg$ events as compared with events. Several QCD model predictions are compared with the observed effect.

Abstract

The branching fraction of the ψ(2S) decay into τ + τ - has been measured for the first time using the BES detector at the Beijing Electron-Positron Collider. The result is B ττ =(2.710. 43±0.55)× 10 -3 , where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic. This value, along with those for the branching fractions into e + e - and μ + μ - of this resonance, satisfy well the relation predicted by the sequential lepton hypothesis. Combining all these values with the leptonic width of the resonance, the total width of the ψ(25) is determined to be (252±37) keV. ©2002 The American Physical Society.

Abstract

We report a measurement of R(b) = GAMMA(bbBAR)GAMMA(had) from Z --> qqBAR events at LEP. Z --> bbBAR events are identified using a multidimensional analysis based on a neural network approach. We obtain 60% sample purity with an efficiency of 35%. Our measured value of R(b) is 0.222 +/- 0.003 +/- 0.007.

Abstract

Cadmium (Cd) accumulates in rice and then moves up the food chain, causing serious health problems for humans. Glutathione S-transferase (GST) binds exogenous hazardous compounds to glutathione (GSH), which performs a variety of roles in plant responses to Cd stress. Here, Cd stimulated the transcripts of a novel OsGST gene, and the OsGST protein, which was localized in the nucleus and cytoplasm, was also induced by Cd. In OsGST deletion mutant lines generated by CRISPR/Cas9, more Cd was accumulated, and Cd hypersensitive phenotypes were observed, while transgenic lines overexpressing OsGST exhibited enhanced Cd tolerance and less Cd accumulation. Abstract

Savolitinib is a selective inhibitor that specifically targets the phosphorylation of mesenchymal-epithelial transition (MET) kinase. It has demonstrated significant inhibitory effects on the proliferation of tumor cells with METex14 skipping mutation, making it a promising treatment option. While it is the first approved small-molecule inhibitor specifically targeting MET kinase in China, there is limited information about its efficacy as neoadjuvant therapy for patients with supraclavicular lymph node metastasis (N3). In this case report, we presented the successful outcome of a 48-year-old male patient who was diagnosed with stage IIIB (T2bN3M0) lung adenocarcinoma originating from the left upper lobe. The patient exhibited the METex14 skipping alteration. Following two months of neoadjuvant savolitinib treatment, the patient achieved partial remission, with a significant reduction in the size of the primary tumor and metastatic lymph nodes. Postoperative pathological confirmation revealed a pathological complete response, and subsequent imaging examinations, including computed tomography scan and circulating tumor DNA-based molecular residual disease detection, showed no sign of recurrence at 7 months after surgery. Based on this case, neoadjuvant and adjuvant savolitinib therapy may be considered as a favorable alternative to chemotherapy for marginally resectable nonsmall cell lung cancer patients with METex14 skipping mutation., (Copyright © 2024 Wolters Kluwer Health, Inc. Abstract

Aerobic Granular Sludge (AGS) technology is a promising solution for wastewater treatment due to its structure and high biomass retention capacity. However, the stability of AGS is still a challenge for widespread use. This study investigated the relationships among granule stability, granule diameter, biomass retention capacity, and denitrification efficiency. The results showed that granule diameter did not necessarily indicate granule stability, nor was it associated with biomass retention capacity. For mature granules, promoting simultaneous nitrification and denitrification rather than anoxic denitrification was found to improve granule stability. The deterioration of clarification capacity caused by increased anoxic denitrification at high nitrate concentration was not indicated by diameters or the commonly used SVI 5 /SVI 30 . Therefore, ensuring coordination between diameter and denitrification control is crucial for the stability of AGS. Abstract

Virgin coconut oil (VCO) is obtained by processing mature coconut cores with mechanical or natural methods. In recent years, VCO has been widely used in the food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic industries because of its excellent functional activities. VCO has biological functions such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antiviral, and also has potential therapeutic effects on many chronic degenerative diseases. Among these functions, the antioxidant is the most basic and important function, which is mainly determined by phenolic compounds and medium-chain fatty acids (MCFAs). This review aims to elucidate the antioxidant functions of each phenolic compound in VCO, and discuss the antioxidant mechanisms of VCO in terms of the role of phenolic compounds with fat, intestinal microorganisms, and various organs. Besides, the composition of VCO and its application in various industries are summarized, and the biological functions of VCO are generalized, which should lay a foundation for further research on the antioxidant activity of VCO and provide a theoretical basis for the development of food additives with antioxidant activity.

Development of a new catalytic and straightforward strategy to construct C-N bonds is playing a pivotal role in synthetic chemistry. Here, we report a photocatalysed protocol to access direct C-H amidation of indoles, enabled by a rationally designed tert -butyl alkyl((perfluoropyridin-4-yl)oxy)carbamate. A series of biologically important aminoindoles were prepared under mild conditions with excellent regioselectivity and broad substrate scope.

33. N -Chlorosulfonyl carbamate-enabled, photoinduced amidation of quinoxalin-2(1 H )-ones.

Abstract

Reported herein is the design and development of a new photo-induced amidation protocol with the readily available N -chlorosulfonyl carbamate as an effective amidyl-radical precursor, which could be readily prepared from commercial low-cost chlorosulfonyl isocyanate (CSI) and alcohol feedstocks. The synthetic potency of this developed protocol was well demonstrated by direct amidation of various quinoxalin-2(1 H )-ones. The protocol could be further streamlined by implementing a one-pot/two-step/three-component process of CSI, alcohol, and quinoxalin-2(1 H )-one, with significantly improved reaction efficiency. This methodology offers an intriguing opportunity for rapid expansion of nitrogen-containing molecular complexity, thus inspiring comprehensive exploration of a new reaction mode of CSI reagent.

Abstract

Type 1 diabetes is an inflammatory state. Myeloid-derived suppressive cells (MDSCs) originate from immature myeloid cells and quickly expand to control host immunity during infection, inflammation, trauma, and cancer. This study presents an ex vivo procedure to develop MDSCs from bone marrow cells propagated from granulocyte-macrophage-colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF), interleukin (IL)-6, and IL-1β cytokines expressing immature morphology and high immunosuppression of T-cell proliferation. The adoptive transfer of cytokine-induced MDSCs (cMDSCs) improved the hyperglycemic state and prolonged the diabetes-free survival of nonobese diabetic (NOD) mice with severe combined immune deficiency (SCID) induced by reactive splenic T cells harvested from NOD mice. In addition, the application of cMDSCs reduced fibronectin production in the renal glomeruli and improved renal function and proteinuria in diabetic mice. Moreover, cMDSCs use mitigated pancreatic insulitis to restore insulin production and reduce the levels of HbA1c. In conclusion, administering cMDSCs propagated from GM-CSF, IL-6, and IL-1β cytokines provides an alternative immunotherapy protocol for treating diabetic pancreatic insulitis and renal nephropathy.

35. Visible-light-driven oxidation of organosilanes by a charge-transfer complex.

Abstract

Direct oxidation of organosilanes is one of the most straightforward ways to access silanols. Herein, we describe a novel photo-induced strategy for oxidation of organosilanes to access silanols, promoted by a photoactive charge-transfer complex (CTC) between sodium benzenesulfinate and molecular O 2 . A streamlined sequence transformation of organosilanes to silyl ethers was also readily achieved. This developed protocol represents the first example of CTC-based oxidation of organosilanes, offering a facile approach to access a series of silanol and silyl ether products.

Abstract

Objective: To analyze the level of PCDD/Fs exposure of occupational workers in the waste incineration industry and explore the risk of occupational exposure. Methods: In September 2021, literature on environmental PCDD/Fs exposure in waste incineration plants published from the establishment of the database to February 10, 2021 was retrieved from CNKI database. A total of 1365 literatures were retrieved, and 7 met the criteria for inclusion. The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) inhalation risk model was used to assess and analyze carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic risks of PCDD/Fs exposure among occupational workers in the waste incineration industry. Results: A total of 86 sampling sites were included in incineration plants in 7 regions. The study of Wuhan area showed that the concentration of working environment near the waste incinerator in the same factory was the highest, followed by the rest and office area in the factory. The concentration of PCDD/Fs in waste incinerators was the highest in Southwest China (4880.00-24880.00 pg TEQ/m(3)), and the lowest in Shenzhen (0.02-0.44 pg TEQ/m(3)). According to the cancer risk assessment, with the increase of exposure years, the risk of cancer increased. The highest risk of cancer was found in the waste incineration plants in Southwest China. When the exposure period was 1 year, the risk was moderate (22.40×10(-6)-114.20×10(-6)). When the exposure time was more than 5 years, the risk of cancer was high. In Jinan, workers working near the incinerator had a moderate risk of cancer after five years of exposure. In Zhejiang, workers were at medium risk of cancer after exposure for more than 20 years. Workers in Wuhan, Shanghai, Zhejiang Province, Shenzhen and the Pearl River Delta were still at low risk of cancer after 40 years of occupational exposure. HQ>1 of workers working near the waste incinerators in Jinan, Zhejiang Province and Southwest China, and the qualitative evaluation results showed that the non-carcinogenic risk was unacceptable. Conclusion: There are great differences in PCDD/Fs of occupational exposure in waste incineration industry, and the occupational exposure exceeding the occupational exposure limit has higher carcinogenic and non carcinogenic risks.

Abstract

Methamphetamine (Meth) abuse can cause severe anxiety disorder and interfere with gut homeostasis. Obeticholic acid (OCA) has emerged as a protective agent against diet-related anxiety that improves gut homeostasis. The potential for OCA to ameliorate Meth-induced anxiety, and the microbial mechanisms involved, remain obscure. Here, C57/BL6 mice were intraperitoneally injected with Meth (15 mg/kg) to induce anxiety-like behavior. 16 S rRNA sequence analysis and fecal microbiome transplantation (FMT) were used to profile the gut microbiome and evaluate its effects, respectively. Orally administered OCA was investigated for protection against Meth-induced anxiety. Results indicated that Meth mediated anxiety-like behavior, aroused hippocampal neuroinflammation through activation of the TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB pathway, weakened intestinal barrier and disturbed the gut microbiome. Specifically, abundance of anxiety-related Rikenella was increased. FMT from Meth-administrated mice also weakened intestinal barrier and elevated serum LPS, inducing hippocampal neuroinflammation and anxiety-like behavior in recipient mice. Abstract

Background: The novel TTC gene, tetratricopeptide repeat domain 39 C (Ttc39c), mainly mediates the interaction between proteins. It is involved in the progression of various tumors. In this study, we determined the effect of Ttc39c on lung adenocarcinoma and found that it might be used as a potential intervention target., Methods: We performed a difference analysis of Ttc39c samples from the TCGA database. Transwell experiments were conducted to determine the ability of cell metastasis. Celigo and MTT assays were performed to determine the effect of Ttc39c gene subtraction on cell proliferation. FACS was performed to determine the effect of Ttc39c gene subtraction on apoptosis. Clone-formation experiments were conducted to determine the effect of Ttc39c gene subtraction on cloning ability. Transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics were used to elucidate the enrichment pathway of the Ttc39c gene in the progression of lung adenocarcinoma., Results: The expression of Ttc39c increased significantly in lung adenocarcinoma. The proliferation, metastasis, and cloning ability of human lung cancer cells were inhibited, while the apoptosis of cells increased significantly after the depletion of Ttc39c. Our results based on the transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics analyses indicated that Ttc39c might be involved in the progression of lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) mainly through the metabolic pathway and the p53 pathway., Conclusion: To summarize, Ttc39c strongly regulates the proliferation and metastasis of lung adenocarcinoma cells. Background: Uniportal video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (U-VATS) can achieve traditional clinical outcomes comparable to those of multiportal video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (M-VATS). This study aimed to compare patient-reported outcomes between U-VATS and M-VATS for lung cancer lobectomy in the early postoperative period., Methods: This comparative analysis used data from a longitudinal prospective study (Perioperative Symptom Study of Lung Cancer [CN-PRO-Lung 1]). Symptom severity, functional status, and quality of life were compared between groups using generalized estimation equation models. Symptom severity and functional status were reported as proportion of patients with clinically meaningful severe scores on 0- to 10-point scales assessed using the MD Anderson Symptom Inventory-Lung Cancer module., Results: Of the 174 patients included, 102 (58.6%) underwent U-VATS lobectomy and 72 (41.4%) underwent M-VATS lobectomy. After adjusting for confounders, patients in the U-VATS group reported less severe pain (P = .02), fatigue (P = .001), constipation (P = .01), coughing (P = .003), shortness of breath (P < .001), and disturbed sleep (P = .007) during the 6-day postoperative hospitalization than did patients in the M-VATS group. Moreover, fewer patients reported severe impairment in walking (P = .033) or their capacity to enjoy life (P = .027) in the U-VATS group. Meanwhile, there were no significant between-group differences in the quality of life scores, operative time, chest tube duration, length of hospital stay, or early complication rate (grade II or higher) (all P > .05)., Conclusions: U-VATS may produce fewer severe symptoms and better functional status than M-VATS for lung cancer lobectomy in the early postoperative period., (Copyright © 2022 The Society of Thoracic Surgeons. Introduction: This study is conducted to investigate the correlation between perioperative fractional exhaled nitric oxide and postoperative pneumonia (POP) and the feasibility of perioperative FeNO for predicting POP in surgical lung cancer patients., Methods: Patients who were diagnosed with non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) were prospectively analyzed, and the relationship between perioperative FeNO and POP was evaluated based on patients' basic characteristics and clinical data in the hospital., Results: There were 218 patients enrolled in this study. Finally, 183 patients were involved in the study, with 19 of them in the POP group and 164 in the non-POP group. The POP group had significantly higher postoperative FeNO (median: 30.0 vs. 19.0 ppb, P < 0.001) as well as change in FeNO (median: 10.0 vs. 0.0 ppb, P < 0.001) before and after the surgery. For predicting POP based on the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, a cutoff value of 25 ppb for postoperative FeNO (Youden's index: 0.515, sensitivity: 78.9%, and specificity: 72.6%) and 4 ppb for change in FeNO (Youden's index: 0.610, sensitivity: 84.2%, specificity: 76.8%) were selected. Furthermore, according to the bivariate regression analysis, FEV1/FVC (OR = 0.948, 95% CI: 0.899-0.999, P =0.048), POD1 FeNO (OR = 1.048, 95% CI: 1.019-1.077, P =0.001), and change in FeNO (OR = 1.087, 95% CI: 1.044-1.132, P < 0.001) were significantly associated with occurrence of POP., Conclusions: This prospective study revealed that a high postoperative FeNO (>25 ppb), as well as an increased change in FeNO (>4 ppb), may have the potential in detecting the occurrence of POP in surgical lung cancer patients., Competing Interests: The authors declare that there are no conflicts of interest., (Copyright © 2022 Gui-Xian Liu et al.)

Abstract

Purpose: To evaluate the microbiological characteristics and risk factors of severe ophthalmia neonatorum (ON) in Southwest China., Methods: In this retrospective review, data on demography, microbiological results, and risk factors were analyzed. Data were obtained from medical records of patients with severe ON treated at Children's Hospital of Chongqing Medical University from January 2015 to December 2019. To understand the risk factors for severe ON, maternal and neonatal factors were compared between the severe and non-severe ON groups., Results: A total of 1397 neonates with ON were included, of whom 12% (n = 172) had severe ON, and 88% (n = 1225) had non-severe ON. Microbial detection and drug susceptibility tests were performed on 169 patients with severe ON. Culture results were positive for 76 patients, with gram-positive bacteria in 71.1% (n = 54), gram-negative bacteria in 25.0% (n = 19), and multiple microorganisms in 3.9% (n = 3) neonates. The most commonly detected organisms were Staphylococcus aureus (29%) and Staph. epidermis (27%), followed by Escherichia coli (8%). Neisseria gonorrhea (8%), Moraxella catarrhal (5%), Streptococcus pneumoniae (4%), Haemophilus influenza (4%), and Chlamydia trachomatis (1%). The main risk factors for severe ON were obstruction of the nasolacrimal duct (χ 2  = 10.794, P = 0.001), meconium aspiration syndrome (χ 2  = 6.252, P = 0.012), and cesarian section (χ 2  = 5.118, P = 0.024). Neonatal ocular prophylaxis was a protective factor for severe conjunctivitis (χ 2  = 6.905, P = 0.009)., Conclusions: Staphylococcus is the most common pathogen of severe ON. A novel visible-light-driven organocatalytic protocol to access aerobic oxidative cleavage of olefins, promoted by sodium benzene sulfinate, is described herein. An array of alkenes smoothly delivered the corresponding aldehydes and ketones under transition-metal-free conditions. Notably, α-halo-substituted styrenes proceeded with photoinduced oxidation to finally afford α-halo-acetophenones with halogen migration. Crucial to this oxidation was the formation of charge-transfer complexes between sodium benzene sulfinate with molecular O 2 to ultimately deliver the carbonyl products.

43. Comparison of the Curative Efficacy of Hemivertebra Resection via the Posterior Approach Assisted With Unilateral and Bilateral Internal Fixation in the Treatment of Congenital Scoliosis.

Abstract

Objective: This study aimed to compare the curative efficacy of hemivertebra resection via the posterior approach assisted with unilateral and bilateral internal fixation in the treatment of congenital scoliosis (CS)., Methods: In this study, 29 children (15 males and 14 females), who underwent hemivertebra resection via the posterior approach and received internal fixation from November 2005 to September 2018, were analyzed retrospectively. The age of these patients ranged from 0.9 to 15 years, with an average of 3.8 years. The follow-up duration ranged from 2 to 12.3 years, with an average of 5.7 years. The patients in group A received unilateral internal fixation, and those in group B received bilateral internal fixation. The operation duration, bleeding volume, and complications during the operation, as well as the Cobb angles of scoliosis and kyphosis before and after the operation and at the last follow-up, were compared between the two groups., Results: In group A, the operation duration was 207.4 ± 54.5 min, and the bleeding volume was 215.3 ± 75.4 ml; in group B, the operation duration was 249.5 ± 51.0 min, and the bleeding volume was 291.3 ± 115.6 ml ( P < 0.05). The Cobb angles of segmental scoliosis, segmental kyphosis, cephalic compensatory curve, and caudal compensatory curve were significantly improved in the two groups after operation and at the last follow-up ( P < 0.05). The post-operative correction rate of the scoliosis Cobb angle was 67.2% in group A and 79.5% in group B; and the difference was statistically significant ( P < 0.05). At the last follow-up, the correction rate of the scoliosis Cobb angle was 72.7% in group A and 76.2% in group B ( P > 0.05). After the operation and at the last follow-up, the correction rates of kyphosis were 83.1 and 79.6% in group A and 71.8 and 65.5% in group B ( P > 0.05)., Conclusion: Hemivertebra resection via posterior approach with unilateral internal fixation can also achieve the effect of bilateral internal fixation in the treatment of CS. Reported herein is a visible-light-induced, catalyst-free intramolecular cyclization of 4-phenylsulfonyl-2,3,5,6-tetrachloropyridine, leading to rapid assembly of a series of unprecedented benzo[4,5]thieno[3,2- c ]pyridine 5,5-dioxide scaffolds under mild conditions. The rational introduction of a perchloropyridin-4-yl module significantly facilitated this photoinduced process and offers a versatile platform for broad structural variation. Mechanistic studies revealed that a newly identified charge-transfer complex with carbonate is crucial to this photoinduced process.

Introduction: Postoperative ineffective cough is easy to occur after thoracic surgery, and it is also a risk factor for postoperative pulmonary complications (PPCs)., Objectives: To explore the value of peak expiratory flow rate (PEF) in evaluating cough ability in patients undergoing lung surgery and evaluate the effectiveness of chest wall compression during the expiratory phase by PEF., Methods: From September 2020 to May 2021, the researchers collected the data of patients who underwent lung surgery. Eventually, 153 patients who met the criteria were included, 102 cases were included in the effective cough group and 51 cases were included in the ineffective cough group. The receiver working curve (ROC curve) was used to analyze whether PEF could evaluate cough ability. At the same time, the researchers collected the pulmonary function data of the first 30 patients of the ineffective cough group while compressing the chest wall during the expiratory phase to evaluate the effectiveness of chest wall compression., Results: The area under the curve (AUC) of postoperative PEF to evaluate the postoperative cough ability was 0.955 (95% CI: 0.927-0.983, P < 0.001). The values of PEF (127.17 ± 34.72 L/min vs. 100.70 ± 29.98 L/min, P < 0.001, 95% CI: 18.34-34.59) and FEV 1 (0.72 (0.68-0.97) L vs. 0.64 (0.56-0.82) L, P < 0.001) measured while compressing the chest wall were higher than those without compression., Conclusions: PEF can be used as a quantitative indicator of cough ability. 46. Antibiotics Attenuate Methamphetamine-Induced Hepatotoxicity by Regulating Oxidative Stress and TLR4/MyD88/Traf6 Axis.

Abstract

Methamphetamine (METH) is a major psychostimulant drug of abuse worldwide, and its neurotoxicity has been studied extensively. In addition to neurotoxicity, METH can also induce hepatotoxicity. The underlying mechanism of intestinal microorganisms in METH-induced hepatotoxicity remains unclear. In this study, mice have received antibiotics intragastrically or PBS once each day for 1 week, followed by METH or saline. The antibiotics attenuated METH-induced hepatotoxicity as evidenced by histopathological observation and biochemical analysis; furthermore, they alleviated METH-induced oxidative stress. The effect of antibiotics on METH-induced hepatotoxicity was investigated using RNA-sequencing (RNA-seq). The RNA-seq results demonstrated that antibiotics could regulate 580 differentially expressed genes (DEGs), of which 319 were upregulated after METH treatment and then downregulated with antibiotic pretreatment and 237 were first downregulated after METH administration and then upregulated after antibiotic pretreatment, in addition to 11 upregulated and 13 downregulated ones simultaneously in METH and antibiotic-pretreated groups. RNA-seq analyses revealed that TLR4 is one of the hub genes. Western blot analysis indicated that antibiotics inhibited the increase of TLR4, MyD88 and Traf6 induced by METH. Abstract

Esophageal cancer (EC) is the sixth leading cause of cancer‑related mortality worldwide, with the incidence gradually increasing each year. Therefore, further clarifying the mechanism underlying the development of EC may be beneficial for identifying novel biomarkers and targets for its treatment. The present study aimed to determine the functional roles of glioblastoma‑amplified sequence (GBAS), a newly identified gene that has been reported to play crucial roles in multiple types of cancer, including in the malignant behavior of EC cells, such as cell viability, colony formation, cell apoptosis and cell cycle progression. The results of the present study revealed that, in vitro , the knockdown of GBAS significantly suppressed cell viability and colony formation in TE‑1 and KYSE‑150 cell lines, using a Celigo cell count analysis and colony formation assay respectively, whereas the apoptotic rate of EC cells was significantly increased by the knockdown of GBAS using Annexin V APC staining. Furthermore, following GBAS knockdown, the cell cycle progression of TE‑1 and KYSE‑150 cells was arrested in the G1 phase using PI staining. In conclusion, the findings of the present study suggested that GBAS may serve a role in EC by regulating cell viability, apoptosis and cell cycle progression.

48. An experimental investigation on engineering properties of undisturbed loess under acid contamination.

Abstract

Even though soil acidification can cause significant destabilizing effects on various geotechnical issues, studies have rarely been conducted to determine the influence of soil structure on the impact of acid-contaminated soil. The current work aims to understand the effect of acid fluids on engineering behavior of undisturbed loess through laboratory tests. The sampling site is in a typical region of Loess Plateau, China. The variations in particle size distribution, Atterberg limits, uniaxial compression strength, and permeability were investigated with the help of microstructure for a better understanding of the governing mechanism of undisturbed loess subjected to acid fluids. It was found that exposure to acid fluids can improve the particle size distribution of loess. In contrast, the experimental results indicated that acid fluids can decrease Atterberg limits and strength and permeability of loess, although Atterberg limits and strength of loess are considerably increased in a highly sulfuric acid environment. Then, analyzing the engineering response in the light of microstructure revealed that the face-to-face contacts primarily exist in loess prepared with hydrochloric acid and nitric acid, respectively, whereas the mosaic structure is indeed active in sulfur-contaminated loess. Furthermore, a micro-conceptual structure was proposed based on the experiment led to the conclusion that the cementitious salt and structural characteristics play a dominant role in governing the engineering behavior of loess under acidic conditions.

Abstract

This study reported a rare case of mediastinal abscess scrofula. The patient was found to have a large left main bronchial orificium fistula (approximately 1.5x1.5cm in size) after clearing a mediastinal lymph node abscess via the right thoracotomy approach. The adjacent tissue was empty and could not be directly repaired. Therefore, the research team cut out an appropriately sized right pericardial fat pad patch during the operation for repairing and then covered it with a biological patch (Neoveil) for reinforcement. The mediastinal pleura was treated by embedding and the postoperative recovery was good. 50. TACE combined with microwave ablation therapy vs. TACE alone for treatment of early- and intermediate-stage hepatocellular carcinomas larger than 5 cm: a meta-analysis.

Abstract

There are many therapeutic options for primary hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), but very limited options for unresectable HCC with a single lesion larger than 5 cm (Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer [BCLC] stage A) or with 2-3 nodules beyond 5 cm (BCLC stage B). Transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) is considered the first-line treatment for these patients, and combination therapy has also been tried. However, the effectiveness of microwave ablation (MWA) combined with TACE in the treatment of the above tumors remains to be further confirmed. Therefore, this meta-analysis aimed to compare the effectiveness of combination therapy and TACE monotherapy on these patients. PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, and the Wan Fang electronic databases were retrieved to search for studies comparing combination therapy and TACE monotherapy, published between the earliest available date and August 20, 2019. A total of 20 articles (reporting 1736 patients) were included. Meta-analysis showed that, compared to TACE alone, TACE + MWA resulted in significantly higher 1-, 2-, and 3-year overall survival (OS) (1-year OS rate: RR = 1.36, 95% CI 1.28-1.44, P < 0.001; 2-year OS rate: RR = 1.56, 95% CI 1.40-1.74, P < 0.001 and 3-year OS rate: RR = 2.07, 95% CI: 1.67-2.57, P < 0.001). Complete response, partial response, and objective response rates were significantly higher in TACE + MWA than those in TACE alone (P < 0.001). Meanwhile, publication bias and sensitivity analysis were performed and did not show statistical significance.
