Background: The associations of muscle mass and strength with new-onset Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) remain controversial. We aimed to longitudinally evaluate muscle mass and strength in predicting T2DM among Chinese middle-aged and older adults. Methods: We enrolled 6033 participants aged ≥ 45 years from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS), a cohort survey, between 2011 and 2012. The appendicular skeletal muscle mass (normalized by weight, ASM/BW%), relative hand grip strength (normalized by weight, HGS/BW), and five-repetition chair stand test (5CST). were all categorized into tertiles (lowest, middle, and highest groups) at baseline, respectively. Individuals were followed up until the occurrence of diabetes or the end of CHARLS 2018, whichever happened first. Cox proportional hazards models to calculate hazard ratios with 95% confidence intervals (CI) and mediation analysis were used. Results: During follow-up, 815 (13.5%) participants developed T2DM. After adjusting for covariates, lower ASW/BW% was not associated with a higher risk of diabetes. Compared with individuals in the highest tertile of HGS/BW, those in the lowest tertile had 1.296 (95%CI 1.073–1.567) higher risk of diabetes. Compared with individuals in the lowest tertile of 5CST, those in the highest tertile had 1.329 times (95%CI 1.106–1.596) higher risk of diabetes. By subgroup, both the lowest HGS/BW and highest 5CST were risk factors for diabetes among obesity. The mediation analysis revealed that the effect of HGS/BW on the risk of diabetes is mainly mediated by insulin resistance. Moderate physical training has been shown to hinder age‐related memory decline. While the benefits of physical training on hippocampal memory function are well‐documented, little is known about its impact on working memory, which is linked to the prelimbic cortex (PrL), one major subdivision of the prefrontal cortex. Here, we examined the effects of physical training on spatial working memory in a well‐established animal model of physical training, starting at 16 months of age and continuing for 5 months (running wheel 1 h/day and 5 days/week). This training strategy improved spatial working memory in aged mice (22‐month‐old), which was accompanied by an increased spine density and a lower TAF15 expression in the PrL. Specifically, physical training affected both thin and mushroom‐type spines on PrL pyramidal cells, and prevented age‐related loss of spines on selective segments of apical dendritic branches. Correlation analysis revealed that increased TAF15‐expression was detrimental to the dendritic spines. However, physical training downregulated TAF15 expression in the PrL, preserving the dendritic spines on PrL pyramidal cells and improving working memory in trained aged mice. When TAF15 was overexpressed in the PrL via a viral approach, the benefits of physical training on the dendritic spines and working memory were abolished. These data suggest that physical training at a moderate pace might downregulate TAF15 expression in the PrL, which favors the dendritic spines on PrL pyramidal cells, thereby improving spatial working memory. Lycium ruthenicum Murray possesses significant applications in both food and medicine, including antioxidative, anti-tumor, anti-fatigue, anti-inflammatory, and various other effects. Consequently, there has been a surge in research endeavors dedicated to exploring its potential benefits, necessitating the organization and synthesis of these findings. This article systematically reviews the extraction and content determination methods of active substances such as polysaccharides, anthocyanins, flavonoids, and polyphenols in LRM in the past five years, as well as some active ingredient composition determination methods, biological activities, and product development. This review is divided into three main parts: extraction and determination methods, their bioactivity, and product development. Building upon prior research, we also delve into the economic and medicinal value of Lycium ruthenicum Murray, thereby contributing significantly to its further exploration and development. Aims: Levofloxacin is a quinolone antibiotic with a broad antibacterial spectrum. It is frequently used in elderly patients with pneumonia. The pharmacokinetic profile of elderly patients changes with age, but data on the pharmacokinetics of levofloxacin in these patients are limited. The aim of this study was to establish a population pharmacokinetic model of levofloxacin in elderly patients with pneumonia and to optimize individualized dosing regimens based on this newly developed model. Methods: This is a prospective, open‐label pharmacokinetic study in elderly patients with pneumonia. Blood samples were collected using an opportunistic approach. The plasma concentrations of levofloxacin were determined by high‐performance liquid chromatography. A population pharmacokinetic model was established using nonlinear mixed‐effect model software. Monte Carlo simulations were used for dose simulation and dose optimization. Results: Data from 51 elderly patients with pneumonia were used for the population pharmacokinetic analysis. A one‐compartment model with first‐order elimination was most suitable for describing the data, and the estimated glomerular filtration rate was the only covariate that had a significant impact on the model. The final model estimated that the mean clearance of levofloxacin in elderly patients with pneumonia was 5.26 L/h. Monte Carlo simulation results showed that the optimal dosing regimen for levofloxacin was 750 mg once a day in elderly patients with pneumonia, with a minimum inhibitory concentration of 2 mg/L. Conclusions: The population pharmacokinetic model of levofloxacin in elderly patients with pneumonia was established, and the dose optimization of levofloxacin was completed through Monte Carlo simulation. Visual symbols, such as logos, landmark pictures, and mascots, play a significant role in attracting tourists and improving destination images. However, only a few studies have examined how the basic visual elements of these symbols influence potential tourists' responses to a destination. This study aims to investigate the role of color lightness in destination visual symbols. Through three experiments, we repeatedly found that lightened visual symbols nudged consumers to evaluate their destination better. Furthermore, positive mental imagery mediated this effect. Nonetheless, the positive effect of lightened visual symbols on destination images was diminished when informational interventions were present. Our study provides new theoretical insights into destination images research by highlighting the positive effect of a fundamental visual attribute—symbol lightness. We suggest that tourism practitioners can make a "big difference" to the destination image by making "small changes," such as adjusting visual symbol lightness. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Previous studies have demonstrated conflicting findings regarding the initial MRI patterns of radiotherapy-induced temporal lobe injury (RTLI) and the evolution of different RTLI patterns. The aim of this study was to evaluate the initial MRI pattern and evolution of RTLI in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) by means of a large cohort study. Methods: Data of patients with RTLI were retrospectively collected from two hospitals between January 2011 and December 2021. The injured lobes were categorized into three patterns based on initial MRI patterns: isolated white matter lesions (WMLs), isolated contrast-enhanced lesions (CELs), and combined WMLs and CELs. The latency period, MRI appearances, and temporal changes in WMLs and CELs were evaluated. Results: A total of 913 RTLI patients with 1092 injured lobes were included in this study. The numbers of isolated WMLs, isolated CELs, and combined WMLs and CELs identified at the first MRI detection were 7 (0.6%), 172 (15.8%), and 913 (83.6%), respectively. The evolution of bilateral RTLI was different in the same patient, and that of unilateral RTLI combined with WMLs and CELs also may occur asynchronously. The time intervals from the initial MRI detection of isolated WMLs, isolated CELs, combined WMLs and CELs to the last negative MRI scan were 8.6, 8.9 and 11.0 months, respectively. A significant difference was observed in the time intervals between the three patterns (H = 14.287, P = 0.001). And the time interval was identified as an independent factor influencing the initial MRI pattern of RTLI after Poisson regression (P = 0.002). Conclusion: Both WMLs and CELs could be the initial and only MRI abnormalities in patients with RTLI. This study is of great significance in accurately diagnosing RTLI early and providing timely treatment options. Moderate rising of house prices are beneficial to the economic development. However, over high house prices worsen the economic distortions and thus hinder the development of the real economy. We use the stochastic frontier models to calculate the fundamental value in the housing in Chinese large and medium cities, and then obtain indexes which could measure the house prices' deviations from the fundamental value. With the macroeconomic data in the city-level, this paper empirically investigates the effects of the house prices' deviations on macro-economic variables like consumption, investment and output. The study reveals that the housing bubble exists in most Chinese cities, and first-tier cities fare the worst. House prices over the fundamental value, which could increase the scale of real estate investment, bring adverse impacts on GDP, as it causes declining civilian consumption and discourages real economy's investment and production. The encouragement and the discouragement on macroeconomy caused by house prices' deviation from its basic value take turns to play a key role in the process of China' eco-nomic growth. In the early stage of China's economic growth, the encouragement effect predominates. The experiment was to study the quality and in vitro digestibility of total mixed fermentation diet treated with different proportions of reed grass and corn straw. The concentrate to roughage ratio of the diet was 35:65, and each group has consistent composition of concentrate (corn 13%, soybean meal 7%, flax meal 6%, bran 4%, wolfberry residue 5%). The coarse materials were reed grass and corn straw in different proportions. Reed grass and corn stalk were mixed in fresh weight ratios of 0:10 (group A), 2:8 (group B), 4:6 (group C), 6:4 (group D), 8:2 (group E), and 10:0 (group F), respectively, and combined with 35% concentrate feed. Cellulase and compound probiotics were used to ferment the total mixed diet prepared with different proportions of reed grass and corn straw combined with concentrate. Each group was set with three replicates and fermented for 30 days. The results showed that when the ratio of concentrate to roughage was 35:65, and the daily feed underwent enzymatic complex treatment with a roughage composition of reed grass to corn stalk at a ratio of 2:8, the overall sensory quality of the feed was better, with higher conventional nutritional value, maximum gas production, and the best combined effect. The study indicates that the ratio of reed grass to corn straw in roughage is 2:8, which is helpful to improve the utilization rate of reed grass and straw feed, reduce feed cost, improve economic benefit. Objective: To compare the computed tomography (CT) images of patients with locally advanced gastric cancer (GC) before and after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) in order to identify CT features that could predict pathological response to NAC. Methods: We included patients with locally advanced GC who underwent gastrectomy after NAC from September 2016 to September 2021. We retrieved and collected the patients' clinicopathological characteristics and CT images before and after NAC. We analyzed CT features that could differentiate responders from non-responders and established a logistic regression equation based on these features. Results: We included 97 patients (69 [71.1%] men; median [range] age, 60 [26–75] years) in this study, including 66 (68.0%) responders and 31 (32.0%) non-responders. No clinicopathological variable prior to treatment was significantly associated with pathological response. Out of 16 features, three features (ratio of tumor thickness reduction, ratio of reduction of primary tumor attenuation in arterial phase, and ratio of reduction of largest lymph node attenuation in venous phase) on logistic regression analysis were used to establish a regression equation that demonstrated good discrimination performance in predicting pathological response (area under receiver operating characteristic curve 0.955; 95% CI, 0.911–0.998). Oral cancer, which is also called mouth cancer, is cancer of the lining of the mouth, lips, or upper throat that has appeared in more than 355,000 people worldwide and caused more than 177,000 deaths, so it is essential to diagnose it as early as possible. Computed tomography (CT) scan is conducive to oral cancer diagnosis, but classifying oral CT images to cancer and cyst manually is difficult and time-consuming. A novel intelligent model based on improved Inception-v3 for classifying oral cancer and cyst CT images automatically is proposed in this paper. We replace the conventional convolution block in Inception-v3 with the Inverted Bottleneck Block and introduce Squeeze-and-Excitation Block (SEB) and Convolutional Block Attention Block (CBAB). The proposed model in this paper is trained on a dataset consisting of CT images of two classes (oral cancer and cyst), and the proposed model achieves 84.053% accuracy, 82.364% sensitivity, 84.508% specificity for oral cancer classification and outperforms other common models in classifying oral CT images. In this study, a composite rapid soil stabilizer (CRSS) was developed based on a calcium sulfoaluminate cement (CSA) to enhance the rapid solidification performance of sludge soil and augment its deficient engineering properties. The appropriate admixture type and dosage were determined through a double mixing test, and the stabilizer formula was optimized via response surface analysis. The solidification products and micromorphology were analyzed using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and the solidification mechanism was discussed. The results showed that the unconfined compressive strength (UCS) of the CRSS-solidified sludge cured for 1 day reached 9 MPa, which was approximately 5 times higher than that of sludge solidified by early strength composite portland cement (PC 42.5R). Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are nanosized vesicles enclosed in a lipid membrane that are sustainably released by nearly all cell types. EVs have been deemed as valuable biomarkers for diagnostics and effective drug carriers, owing to the physiological function of transporting biomolecules for intercellular communication. To investigate their biological properties, efficient labeling strategies have been constructed for EV research, among which fluorescence labeling exerts a powerful function due to the capability of visualizing the nanovesicles with high sensitivity both in vitro and in vivo. In one aspect, with the help of functional fluorescence tags, EVs could be differentiated and categorized in vitro by various analytical techniques, which exert vital roles in disease diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment monitoring. Additionally, innovative EV reporters have been utilized for visualizing EVs, in combination with powerful microscopy techniques, which provide potential tools for investigating the dynamic events of EV release and intercellular communication in suitable animal models. In this feature article, we survey the latest advances regarding EV fluorescence labeling strategies and their application in biomedical application and in vivo biology investigation, highlighting the progresses in individual EV imaging. This Letter reports two kinds of oxygen-containing plasma treated β-Ga2O3 Schottky barrier diodes (SBDs), including N2O plasma treatment and O2 plasma treatment, and the SBD without plasma is prepared for comparison. I–V characteristics, breakdown characteristics, and trap state characteristics of three devices have been studied. It is found that the turn-on voltage of SBDs with N2O plasma can reduce to 0.6 V, and the better current density of 750 A/cm2 and an on-resistance of 3.5 mΩ cm2 are obtained after the N2O plasma treatment. Moreover, the breakdown voltage of SBDs with N2O plasma is 50.2% higher than the conventional one, whose value reaches 323 V. In addition, the trap states' characteristics of the devices are studied, which show that the oxygen-containing plasma can reduce the deep level trap states density partly in the anode region, which can improve the surface quality effectively. Aerosol–cloud interactions (ACIs) are the largest contributor to the uncertainty in the global radiation budget. To improve the current consideration of ACIs in global circulation models, it is necessary to characterize the 3-D distribution of dust-related cloud condensation nuclei concentration (CCNC) and ice-nucleating particle concentration (INPC) globally. This can potentially be realized using the POlarization LIdar PHOtometer Networking (POLIPHON) method together with spaceborne lidar observations. However, dust-related conversion factors that convert bulk aerosol optical properties from lidar measurements to aerosol microphysical properties are still less constrained in many regions, which limits the applications of the POLIPHON method. Here we retrieve the essential dust-related conversion factors at remote oceanic and coastal sites using the historical AErosol RObotic NETwork (AERONET) database. Depolarization-ratio-based dust ratios Rd at 1020 nm are applied to identify the dust-occurring cases, thus enabling us to contain fine-mode dust-dominated cases (after the preferential removal of large-sized dust particles during transport), study the evolution of dust microphysical properties along the transoceanic pathway, and mitigate occasional interference of large-sized marine aerosols. The newly proposed scheme is proven to be valid and feasible by intercomparisons with previous studies at nine sites in/near deserts. The dust-related conversion factors are calculated at 20 oceanic and coastal sites using both pure dust (PD) and PD plus dust-dominated mixture (PD+DDM) datasets. At nearly half of the sites, the conversion factors are solely calculated using the PD datasets, while at the remaining sites, the participation of DDM datasets is required to ensure a sufficient number of data for the calculation. Evident variation trends in conversion factors are found for cv,d (extinction-to-volume concentration, gradually decreasing), c250,d (extinction-to-particle (with a radius > 250 nm) number concentration, gradually increasing), and cs,d (extinction-to-surface-area concentration, gradually decreasing) along both the transpacific and transatlantic dust transport pathways. The retrieved dust-related conversion factors are anticipated to inverse 3-D dust-related CCNC and INPC distributions globally, thereby improving the understanding of ACIs in atmospheric circulation models. Coxsackievirus B5 (CVB5) is an important enterovirus B species (EV-Bs) type. We used the full-length genomic sequences of 53 viral sequences from the national hand, foot, and mouth disease surveillance network in the Chinese mainland (2001–2021). Among them, 69 entire VP1 coding region nucleotide sequences were used for CVB5 genotyping and genetic evolution analysis. Phylogenetic analysis based on a data set of 448 complete VP1 sequences showed that CVB5 could be divided into four genotypes (A-D) worldwide. Sequences from this study belonged to genotypes B and D, which dominated transmission in the Chinese mainland. Two transmission lineages of CVB5 have been discovered in the Chinese mainland, lineage 2 was predominant. Markov chain Monte Carlo analysis indicated that the tMRCA of CVB5 in the Chinese mainland could be traced to 1955, while the global trend could be traced to 1862, 93 years earlier than China. The evolution rate of CVB5 was higher in the Chinese mainland than worldwide. The spatiotemporal dynamics analysis of CVB5 assessed that virus transportation events were relatively active in Central, Northeast, North and Northwest China. Recombination analysis revealed frequent intertypic recombination in the non-structural region of CVB5 genotypes B and D with the other EV-Bs, revealing eight recombination lineages. Cirrus clouds related to transported dust layers were identified on 22 occasions with ground-based polarization lidar from December 2012 to February 2018 over Wuhan (30.5°N, 114.4°E), China. All the events occurred in spring and winter. Cirrus clouds were mostly located above 7.6 km on top of the aloft dust layers. In-cloud relative humidity with respect to ice (RHi) derived from water vapor Raman lidar as well as from ERA5 reanalysis data were used as criteria to determine the possible ice nucleation regimes. Corresponding to the two typical cases shown, the observed events can be classified into two categories: (1) category A (3 cases), in-cloud peak RHi ⩾ 150%, indicating competition between heterogeneous nucleation and homogeneous nucleation; and (2) category B (19 cases), in-cloud peak RHi < 150%, revealing that only heterogeneous nucleation was involved. Heterogeneous nucleation generally took place during instances of cirrus cloud formation in the upper troposphere when advected dust particles were present. Although accompanying cloud-top temperatures ranged from −51.9°C to −30.4°C, dust-related heterogeneous nucleation contributed to primary ice nucleation in cirrus clouds by providing ice nucleating particle concentrations on the order of 10−3 L−1 to 102 L−1. Heterogeneous nucleation and subsequent crystal growth reduced the ambient RHi to be less than 150% by consuming water vapor and thus completely inhibited homogeneous nucleation. The frequency and severity of extreme weather events are increasing and expected to increase more in the future, together with global change. However, how extreme events and global change factors interactively influence community structures and ecosystem processes is largely unknown. Here, we investigated the responses of the temporal stability and resilience of aboveground net primary productivity (ANPP) of an alpine meadow to an extreme flooding event under different treatments of experimental drought and clipping. We found that ecosystems that were exposed to drought treatments for 3 years significantly decreased the temporal stability of community productivity but increased resilience to flooding, whereas their resistance to or recovery from flooding did not change. Neither clipping nor its interaction with drought altered the responses of these community stability metrics to flooding. Drought treatments significantly decreased plant species richness and asynchrony and dominant species stability, leading to a decrease in temporal stability and an increase in resilience in response to the extreme flooding event. The study also revealed that the change in species asynchrony was the dominant impact pathway determining the responses of resilience and temporal stability to flooding. Our results highlight that alpine grassland that experiences a multiyear drought may aggravate the instability of community productivity to extreme climatic events by reducing species asynchrony. Background: We aimed to examine the evolution of blood lipids and compare the risk of dyslipidemia between antiretroviral-naive people living with HIV who received tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF), lamivudine (3TC), and efavirenz (EFV) (TDF + 3TC + EFV) and those who received coformulated elvitegravir, cobicistat, emtricitabine, and tenofovir alafenamide (E/C/F/TAF). Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 2343 antiretroviral-naive people living with HIV who initiated TDF + 3TC + EFV or E/C/F/TAF. A propensity score matching method was used to compare longitudinal changes of blood lipids between the 2 groups. Results: By using 1:3 matching ratio, we included 253 and 91 matched patients in TDF + 3TC + EFV group and E/C/F/TAF group, respectively. The levels of total cholesterol, triglyceride, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol were higher in E/C/F/TAF group than those in TDF + 3TC + EFV group at 3, 6, 9, and 12 months (Wilcoxon test, all P s < 0.05), except for high-density lipoprotein cholesterol at 9 and 12 months. The cumulative rates of hypercholesterolemia, hypertriglyceridemia, and high LDL-C in PLWH with normal lipid levels in E/C/F/TAF group were higher than those in TDF + 3TC + EFV group (hypercholesterolemia, 59.7% vs 21.5%, P < 0.001; hypertriglyceridemia, 69.5% vs 46.3%, P < 00.001; and high LDL-C, 41.5% vs 14.2%, P < 0.001). Multivariate analysis showed treatment with E/C/F/TAF was associated with a significantly higher risk of hypercholesterolemia [adjusted hazard ratio (HR), 4.12; 95% confidence interval (CI): 2.65 to 6.41], hypertriglyceridemia (adjusted HR, 1.69; 95% CI: 1.18 to 2.43), and high LDL-C (adjusted HR, 4.60; 95% CI: 2.66 to 7.97). Diclofenac is a non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory drug and is clinically used for the treatment of osteoarthritis, non-articular rheumatism, etc. This research aimed to demonstrate the creation of an upgraded photoelectrochemical (PEC) aptamer sensor for detecting diclofenac (DCF) with high sensitivity. In this work, photoactive materials and bio-identification components served as visible-light-active CuS/MoS2/Bi2WO6 heterostructures and aptamers, respectively. CuS and MoS2/Bi2WO6 were combined to improve photocurrent responsiveness, which helped the structure of PEC aptasensors. Additionally, the one-pot synthesis of CuS/MoS2/Bi2WO6 was ecologically beneficial. With these optimizations, the photocurrent response of aptamer/CS/CuS/MoS2/Bi2WO6 exhibited linearity between 0.1 and 500 nM DCF. The detection limit was 0.03 nM (S/N = 3). Traditional tea grading depends on subjective sensory assessment, lacking objectivity. This study employed comprehensive metabolomic analysis and sensory evaluation on 161 tea samples to identify potential grading-related metabolites. Amino acids, lipids and organic acids predominantly determined the superior quality of green, yellow, and white teas, respectively, while flavonoids adversely affected their quality. The identified metabolic markers were effectively utilized for predicting tea sensory scores. Specifically, methionine derivatives and glutamate dictated green tea's sweet and umami taste. Glycerophospholipids (PCs and PEs) were positively correlated with appearance, aroma, and taste in yellow tea, while glycerolipids (MGDGs, SQDGs, and DGDGs) had negative visual associations. Fumaric acid and succinic acid bolstered fresh and umami flavor white tea. These findings suggest metabolomics holds promise for precise tea grading, using identified compounds as potential quality markers. The secondary electron emission (SEE) characteristics of materials is one of the issues of interest for microwave components used in space, as it has a decisive effect on the multipactor. In the presented work, the SEE characteristics of gold and silver plating widely used in microwave components is systematically investigated as a function of atmospheric exposure time for up to 400 days. The secondary electron yield (SEY) and the first energy crossover point (E 1) increase and decrease non-monotonically with exposure time for gold plating, whereas they decrease and increase non-monotonically for silver plating, respectively. The results of surface characteristics test and analysis indicate that after exposure to the atmosphere, the surface of gold plating has an adsorption layer consisting of C and O elements, which leads to an increase in SEY, while the surface of silver plating becomes rough and a microporous structure is formed on it due to natural chemical reaction, which results in a decrease in SEY. Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) has led to serious infections, especially in hospitals and clinics, where treatment and prevention have become more difficult due to the formation of biofilms. Owing to biofilm-derived antibiotic tolerance, the currently available traditional antibiotics have failed to treat MRSA infections. Hence, there is a urgent need to develop novel antibiotics for treating life-threatening MRSA infections. Lugdunin (cyclic peptide-1), a nonribosomal cyclic peptide produced by Staphylococcus lugdunensis, exhibits potent antimicrobial activity against MRSA. Amazingly, cyclic peptide-1 and its analogues cyclic peptide-11 and cyclic peptide-14 have the ability to disperse mature MRSA biofilms and show anti-clinical MRSA activity, including MRSA persister cells. In addition, these three cyclic peptide compounds have non-toxicity, lower hemolytic activity and lack of resistance development. Our results indicate that cyclic peptide-1, cyclic peptide-11, and cyclic peptide-14 have great potential as new antimicrobial drug candidates for the treatment of clinical MRSA infections. The role of the single sandstone stacking pattern in controlling the physical properties of the sandstones deposited in the distribution channels of the deltaic plain is unclear. This study aims to reveal the effect of the single sandstone packing patterns on the reservoir qualities of sandstones from the Shanxi Formation in the Daniudi gas field of Ordos Basin. Based on the core observation, 2D-image analysis, and thin section identification, the lithofacies were identified, the stacking patterns of the single sandbody were divided, and the differences in minerals composition and diagenesis of different sandstone stacking patterns were analyzed. According to the sedimentary facies analysis, 10 types of lithofacies have been identified in the Shanxi Formation in the study area. The single sandstone stacking patterns include mixed stacking patterns of coarse to medium-grained sandstone, fining upwards stacking patterns of coarse- to medium-grained sandstone, and coarsening upwards stacking patterns of fine- to coarse-grained sandstone. Among these single sandstone stacking patterns, there is a greater percentage of lithofacies with high reservoir quality in the fining upwards stacking patterns of coarse- to medium-grained sandstone. Through a comparative study of the differences in minerals composition, the degree of compaction, and dissolution of sandstones, it is suggested that the high porosities and permeabilities of the coarse- to medium-grained sandstone lithofacies in the fining upwards stacking patterns are caused by the low content of the matrix in sandstone, relatively weak compaction, relatively high amounts of primary pores, and strong dissolution. The relatively high content of rigid clastic particles with coarser-grained size was favorable for the preservation of primary pores. The relatively high primary porosity could provide favorable passages for the late diagenetic fluid, leading to the development of dissolved pores. Rationale, Aims and Objectives: Increased incidence of chronic illnesses coupled with physician shortages have yielded strain on primary care provider (PCP) to meet care demands. Interdisciplinary providers have increasingly been embedded into primary care teams to alleviate some workload demand. Little evidence exists about the impact of interdisciplinary PCP care delivery models on provider strain in primary care. To determine the impact of interdisciplinary PCP care delivery on burnout, job satisfaction and intention to leave current position. Methods: We conducted a cross‐sectional mail survey using Dillman methodology of primary care practices (e.g., internal medicine) across New York State. A random sample of interdisciplinary PCPs (physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants) (n = 333) responded. The Provider Comanagement Index (α = 0.85) was used to measure how well interdisciplinary dyads comanagement care delivery attributes (effective communication; mutual respect and trust; shared philosophy of care). Provider outcomes were measured with validated Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality and Health Resources and Services Administration items for burnout, job satisfaction and intention to leave position. Descriptive statistics, logistic regression models, crude and adjusted odds ratios were calculated, controlling for participant and practice characteristics. Results: Almost 30% of participants reported burnout with three times the odds of intending to leave their current position within 1 year. With each unit increase in effective comanagement between interdisciplinary dyads there was 15% less burnout and 10% less odds of intention to leave position. Conclusion: Incorporating interdisciplinary specialties in primary care appears promising to alleviate some adverse provider outcomes. Organizations contemplating delivery models to promote well‐being and retention may consider comanagement. Clonorchiasis is an important food-borne parasitic disease caused by Clonorchis sinensis infection. The evaluation of long-term cost-effectiveness of control strategies is important for disease control and prevention. The present study aimed to assess the cost-effectiveness of the three recommended strategies (i.e., WHO, Chinese and Guangdong strategies) and different combinations of commonly used measures (i.e., preventive chemotherapy, information, education, and communication (IEC) and environmental improvement) on clonorchiasis. The study area, Fusha town in Guangdong Province, was a typical high endemic area in China. The analysis was based on a multi-group transmission model of C. sinensis infection. We set the intervention duration for 10 years and post-intervention period for 50 years. The corresponding costs and DALYs were estimated. Strategies with incremental cost-effectiveness ratios (ICERs) less than 1/5 of the willingness-to-pay threshold were identified as highly cost-effective strategies. The optimal control strategy was obtained using the next best comparator method. The ICERs of Guangdong strategy were $172 (95% CI: $143-$230) US for praziquantel and $106 (95% CI: $85-$143) US for albendazole, suggesting the highest cost-effectiveness among the three recommended strategies. For praziquantel, 470 sets of control strategies were identified as highly cost-effective strategies for achieving infection control (prevalence<5%). The optimal strategy consisted of chemotherapy targeted on at-risk population, IEC and environmental improvement, with coverages all being 100%, and with the ICER of $202 (95% CI: $168-$271) US. The results for transmission control (prevalence<1%) and albendazole were obtained with the same procedures. The findings may help to develop control policies for C. sinensis infection in high endemic areas. Objective: The objective of this study is to compare the bone induction of five kinds of calcium phosphate (Ca-P) biomaterials implanted in mice and explore the vascularization and particle-size-related osteoinductive mechanism. Methods: The following five kinds of Ca-P biomaterials including hydroxyapatite (HA) and/or tricalcium phosphate (TCP) were implanted in the muscle of 30 BALB/c mice (n = 6): 20 nm HA (20HA), 60 nm HA (60HA), 12 µm HA (12HA), 100 nm TCP (100TCP) and 12 µm HA + 100 nm TCP (HATCP). Then, all animals were put on a treadmill to run 30 min at a 6 m/h speed each day. Five and ten weeks later, three mice of each group were killed, and the samples were harvested to assess the osteoinductive effects by hematoxylin eosin (HE), Masson's trichrome and safranine–fast green stainings, and the immunohistochemistry of the angiogenesis and osteogenesis markers CD31 and type I collagen (ColI). Results: The numbers of blood vessels were 139 ±   29 ,   118   ±   25 ,   78   ±   15 ,   65   ±   14 in groups HATCP, 100TCP, 60HA and 20HA, respectively, which were significantly higher than that of group 12HA (12 ± 5) in week 5 (p < 0.05). The area percentages of new bone tissue were (7.33 ± 1.26)% and (8.49 ±   1.38) % in groups 100TCP and HATCP, respectively, which were significantly higher than those in groups 20HA (3.27 ±   0.38) % and 60HA (3.43 ±   0.27) % (p < 0.05); however, no bone tissue was found in group 12HA 10 weeks after transplantation. The expression of CD31 was positive in new blood vessels, and the expression of ColI was positive in new bone tissue. Conclusions: Nanoscale Ca-P biomaterials could induce osteogenesis in mice muscle, and the osteoinductive effects of TCP were about 124% higher than those of 20HA and 114% higher than those of 60HA. The particle size of the biomaterials affected angiogenesis and osteogenesis. There was a positive correlation between the number of blood vessels and the area percentage of new bone tissue; therefore, osteoinduction is closely related to vascularization. Summary: Microfluidic fuel cell (MFC) stacking is a prerequisite to enhance its power output for practical applications. However, most MFC stacks reported in the present literature require external pumps to maintain the co‐laminar flow and complex fluidic management networks for homogeneous flow and reactant distributions. To address these issues, a novel paper‐based self‐pumping MFC stack with potassium formate as the fuel and hydrogen peroxide as the oxidant is proposed in this study. The capillary action is employed to achieve passive liquid flow. A vertical stack structure with the unit cells piled one above another compactly is adopted to reduce the volumetric costs. The experimental results show that the maximum power outputs of the two‐cell and three‐cell stack prototypes are 4.01 and 7.26 mW cm−2, outperforming the MFC unit by 5.81 and 10.52 times, respectively. The superior performance is attributed to its distinct vertical stacking structure, which brings the enhanced capillary flows in the paper wicks and reduced ohmic losses in comparison with the unit cell. Further, effects of the filter paper and reactant concentrations on the stack performance were examined, and mass transfer of the fuel and/or oxidant to the electrode/electrolyte interface was identified as the main limiting factor. A loose microstructure of the paper wick was found beneficial in enhancing the mass transfer. The potential applications of the MFC stack in a variety of portable electronics are broad. Deep learning models are widely used in crop leaf disease image recognition. These models can be divided into two categories: global model and local model. The global model directly takes the whole leaf disease images as input to training and recognition. It can achieve end-to-end training and recognition, which is very convenient to use. But this kind of model cannot very accurately and completely extract the features from the very small diseased spots in the image. Before training and recognizing, the local model needs to extract the diseased spots part from the image by image segmentation technology. Then the local model takes the disease spots part images as input to training and recognition. Features extracted by local model are more accurate and complete. But this kind of model cannot achieve end-to-end training and recognition, and the image segmentation will bring additional overhead. Considering the disadvantage of global model and local model, we proposed a crop leaf disease image recognition method based on bilinear residual networks (named DIR-BiRN). DIR-BiRN extracts features by two residual networks feature extractors and then integrates the features by a bilinear pooling function. By this way, it can extract features more accurately and completely while achieving end-to-end training and recognition. Experiments on the PlantVillage dataset show that, when compared with the standard ResNet-18 model, the DIR-BiRN improves on accuracy performance, recall performance, precision performance, and F1-measure performance by averages of 0.2918, 0.81641, 0.59185, and 0.52151 percentage points, respectively. Therefore, it is important for discovering the key target genes and molecules of bladder tumour cell metastasis and invasion. Our research initially explored the regulation of deltaN p63 on the progression and metastasis of bladder cancer and found that deltaN p63 can influence the occurrence of EMT through PTEN and ultimately regulate the growth and metastasis of bladder cancer. In summary, this study identified a new EMT regulator, deltaN p63, further revealed the mechanism of the invasion and metastasis of bladder cancer cells, and provided a theoretical basis for finding new target molecules and drugs to treat bladder cancer. A fully tunable bandpass filter adopting a novel tubular type structure was presented in this letter. The fully tunable bandpass filter was mainly consisted of π type tunable resonators and coupling reactance. The π type tunable resonators were mainly consisted of step impedance lines and tunable capacitance. Adopting this scheme, the frequency and 3 dB bandwidth of the bandpass filter can all be tuned independently in certain range. Nonsmall cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) is the leading cause of deaths related to carcinomas of lung by the involvement of several risk factors. Tumor cells, in general, exude larger quantities of biological macromolecules in comparison to their noncancerous opposites. Vesicular bodies or cavities created by the folding back of endosome membranes mingle with the plasma membrane and result in the release of exosomes into the extracellular space after which they enter proximal or distant cells of target. Exosomes are nanovesicles that can carry microRNAs (miRNAs) and other such macromolecules as cargos into the tumor environment by means of cell-to-cell communication. These materials transported by exosomes can act as indicators for oncogenesis and metastasis and result in resistance among therapy-sensitive cancer cells. The cargos inside the vesicles loaded with miRNAs vary according to their particular state and therefore can act as potential prognostic or diagnostic markers for a variety of diseases including lung cancer, especially NSCLC. Although the roles of exosomal miRNAs are unclear or contradictory, the possibility of using exosomes as efficient nanovesicles for the treatment of NSCLC using biological molecules such as miRNA remains critical. Cylindrical cyclones are always used in the petroleum industry to separate the oil-water two-phase mixtures or treatment the waste water. Here, we use dimensional analysis and multiphase flow numerical simulation to analyze the separation process in a cylindrical cyclone with a vortex finder to better understand the theory and characteristics of separation. In the dimensional analysis, we consider all structural, flow, and operating parameters. A multiphase mixture model is used to simulate oil-water two-phase flow and separation in a cylindrical cyclone. There is a vortex in the core of the cylinder, and its structure is influenced by the diameter of the overflow pipe, the inlet velocity, and the flow split ratio. However, the influence of these three factors on the equivalent diameter of the vortex core can be ignored. Moreover, the inlet velocity has little influence on the equivalent length of the vortex core. Therefore, the structure of the vortex core can be calculated from the diameter and flow split ratio of the up-outlet of the cylindrical cyclone. Oil-water separation increases as the diameter of the oil droplet increases. The separation efficiency of the cylindrical cyclone with vortex can reach 80% if the inlet dispersion droplet diameter is larger than 1 mm. The oil volume fractions in the up- and down-outlets decrease as the overflow split ratio increases. The flow split ratio is the only operating parameter to consider to obtain the best separation results for a cylindrical cyclone with a fixed inlet oil-water mixture. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Ten undescribed cardiac glycosides, strasperosides A−J, together with twelve known analogues, were isolated from Streblus asper Lour. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic analysis, electronic circular dichroism data, and chemical methods. These cardiac glycosides showed diversity in steroid skeleton and sugar moiety. Strasperosides A and B are a pair of unusual stereoisomers featuring different orientation of the lactone motif. Ten cardiac glycosides demonstrated potent antiviral effects on HSV-1 in vitro with the IC 50 values from 0.19 ± 0.08 to 1.03 ± 0.25 μM and the therapeutic indices from 66.61 ± 5.08 to 326.75 ± 11.75. In this study, we present a novel double-plasmon-coupled semiconductor heterojunction photocatalyst with a large number of oxygen vacancies, produced via a simple two-step solvothermal process. These materials represent a new model system to study the kinetics process and catalytic activity of ammonia borane hydrolytic dehydrogenation in a full-spectrum-light-driven plasmonic semiconductor heterostructure. Upon irradiation with full-spectrum light, the resultant photocatalysts are capable of delivering H 2 generation rate up to 13,031 μmol g-1h−1, which is ∼6 times greater than that of pristine MoO 3-x counterpart. The excellent photocatalytic behavior is primarily attributed to the improved carrier separation, increased light absorption, and enhanced generation of "hot electrons", enabled by a synergistic photo- and thermo-catalytic effect. Quantum dots (QDs)/gel composites have sparked tremendous interests due to their great potentials in sensors. However, in most cases, these sensors are focused on single signal detection, suffers from a key hurdle of low signal density. Thus, it is highly desirable to develop multi-signal QDs/gel-based sensors. In this work, we constructed dual-signal QDs/gel assemblies by a microfluidic-assisted method, which shows promising application in dual-signal sensors. Typically, self-healing QDs/gel beads with different fluorescent signals were fabricated via microfluidic techniques. In virtue of the microfluidic-assisted self-assembly, various dual-signal assemblies were constructed controllably in the confined channels, where self-healing QDs/gel beads serve as building blocks. As expected, the assemblies exhibit rapid dual-signal detection capability toward organic amines and pH values. In addition, by using self-healing gels as printable materials, the combination of the self-assembly strategy with 3D microfluidic printing allows the generation of diverse responsive dual-signal patterns and structures. The self-assembly of self-healing building blocks not only offers a promising route toward fluorescent dual-signal architectures for advanced sensors, but will also guide the development of 3D printing for controllable fabrication of functional assemblies. The POLIPHON (polarization lidar photometer networking) method is a powerful pathway to retrieve the height profiles of dust-related particle mass and ice-nucleating particle (INP) concentrations. The conversion factors fitted from the sun photometer observation data are the major part of the POLIPHON computations, which can convert the polarization-lidar-derived dust extinction coefficients into dust-related particle mass and INP concentrations. For the central Chinese megacity of Wuhan (30.5 ∘ N, 114.4 ∘ E), located at the downstream area several thousands of kilometers far away from the source regions of Asian dust, dust particles always mix with other aerosols from local emissions. Therefore, very few dust case data sets can be available when using the column-integrated Ångström exponent (for 440 – 870nm) <0.3 and aerosol optical depth (at 532nm) >0.1 recorded by a sun photometer as the filtering criteria. Instead, we present another dust case data set screening scheme that applies the simultaneous polarization lidar observation to verify the occurrence of dust. Based on the 33 dust-intrusion days identified during 2011–2013, the extinction-to-volume (cv,d) and extinction-to-large particle (with radius >250 nm) number concentration (c250,d) conversion factors are determined to be (0.52±0.12)×10-12Mmm3m-3 and 0.19±0.05 Mm cm -3 , respectively. The c250,d for Wuhan is 27 % larger than that observed at Lanzhou SACOL (36.0 ∘ N, 104.1 ∘ E), a site closer to the Gobi Desert, and tends to be closer to those observed in North Africa and the Middle East, indicating dust aerosols from these two sources are also possibly involved in the dust events observed over Wuhan. As a comparison, the conversion factor c290,c of 0.11±0.02Mmcm-3 for continental aerosol is much smaller than c250,d , indicating that there is no significant influence of urban aerosols on the retrievals of dust-related conversion factor over Wuhan. The conversion factors are applied in a dust event in Wuhan to reveal the typical dust-related immersion-mode INP concentration over East Asian cities. Lamin A/C gene (LMNA) mutations contribute to severe striated muscle laminopathies, affecting cardiac and skeletal muscles, with limited treatment options. Our approach employs zebrafish models to comprehensively study these variants. Transgenic zebrafish expressing wild-type LMNA and each mutation undergo extensive morphological profiling, swimming behavior assessments, muscle endurance evaluations, heartbeat measurement, and histopathological analysis of skeletal muscles. Additionally, these models serve as platform for focused drug screening. We explore the transcriptomic landscape through qPCR and RNAseq to unveil altered gene expression profiles in muscle tissues. Larvae of LMNA(L35P), LMNA(E358K), and LMNA(R453W) transgenic fish exhibit reduced swim speed compared to LMNA(WT) measured by DanioVision. All LMNA transgenic adult fish exhibit reduced swim speed compared to LMNA(WT) in T-maze. Moreover, all LMNA transgenic adult fish, except LMNA(E358K), display weaker muscle endurance than LMNA(WT) measured by swimming tunnel. Histochemical staining reveals decreased fiber size in all LMNA mutations transgenic fish, excluding LMNA(WT) fish. Interestingly, LMNA(A539V) and LMNA(E358K) exhibited elevated heartbeats. We recognize potential limitations with transgene overexpression and conducted association calculations to explore its effects on zebrafish phenotypes. Our results suggest lamin A/C overexpression may not directly impact mutant phenotypes, such as impaired swim speed, increased heart rates, or decreased muscle fiber diameter. Utilizing LMNA zebrafish models for drug screening, we identify l-carnitine treatment rescuing muscle endurance in LMNA(L35P) and creatine treatment reversing muscle endurance in LMNA(R453W) zebrafish models. Creatine activates AMPK and mTOR pathways, improving muscle endurance and swim speed in LMNA(R453W) fish. Transcriptomic profiling reveals upstream regulators and affected genes contributing to motor dysfunction, cardiac anomalies, and ion flux dysregulation in LMNA mutant transgenic fish. These findings faithfully mimic clinical manifestations of muscular laminopathies, including dysmorphism, early mortality, decreased fiber size, and muscle dysfunction in zebrafish. Furthermore, our drug screening results suggest l-carnitine and creatine treatments as potential rescuers of muscle endurance in LMNA(L35P) and LMNA(R453W) zebrafish models. In order to efficiently identify early tea diseases, an improved YOLOv8 lesion detection method is proposed to address the challenges posed by the complex background of tea diseases, difficulty in detecting small lesions, and low recognition rate of similar phenotypic symptoms. This method focuses on detecting tea leaf blight, tea white spot, tea sooty leaf disease, and tea ring spot as the research objects. This paper presents an enhancement to the YOLOv8 network framework by introducing the Receptive Field Concentration-Based Attention Module (RFCBAM) into the backbone network to replace C2f, thereby improving feature extraction capabilities. Additionally, a mixed pooling module (Mixed Pooling SPPF, MixSPPF) is proposed to enhance information blending between features at different levels. In the neck network, the RepGFPN module replaces the C2f module to further enhance feature extraction. The Dynamic Head module is embedded in the detection head part, applying multiple attention mechanisms to improve multi-scale spatial location and multi-task perception capabilities. The inner-IoU loss function is used to replace the original CIoU, improving learning ability for small lesion samples. Furthermore, the AKConv block replaces the traditional convolution Conv block to allow for the arbitrary sampling of targets of various sizes, reducing model parameters and enhancing disease detection. the experimental results using a self-built dataset demonstrate that the enhanced YOLOv8-RMDA exhibits superior detection capabilities in detecting small target disease areas, achieving an average accuracy of 93.04% in identifying early tea lesions. When compared to Faster R-CNN, MobileNetV2, and SSD, the average precision rates of YOLOv5, YOLOv7, and YOLOv8 have shown improvements of 20.41%, 17.92%, 12.18%, 12.18%, 10.85%, 7.32%, and 5.97%, respectively. Additionally, the recall rate (R) has increased by 15.25% compared to the lowest-performing Faster R-CNN model and by 8.15% compared to the top-performing YOLOv8 model. With an FPS of 132, YOLOv8-RMDA meets the requirements for real-time detection, enabling the swift and accurate identification of early tea diseases. • Discarded face mask was a vital source of micro(nano)plastics and organic chemicals. • Face mask earloops released more pollutants than their filtering layers at same mass. • Toxicogenomics-based assay was used to evaluate the genotoxicity of emitted pollutants. • Membrane and DNA stress were primary responses upon exposure to emitted pollutants. Micro(nano)plastics widely detected in aquatic environments have caused serious threat to water quality security. However, as a potential important source of micro(nano)plastics in surface water during the COVID-19 pandemic, the ecological risks of face mask waste to aquatic environments remain poorly understood. Herein, we comprehensively characterized the micro(nano)plastics and organic compounds released from four daily used face masks in aqueous environments and further evaluated their potential impacts on aquatic ecosystem safety by quantitative genotoxicity assay. Results from spectroscopy and high-resolution mass spectrum showed that plastic microfibers/particles (∼11%-83%) and leachable organic compounds (∼15%-87%) were dominantly emitted pollutants, which were significantly higher than nanoplastics (< ∼5%) based on mass of carbon. Additionally, a toxicogenomics approach using green fluorescence protein-fused whole-cell array revealed that membrane stress was the primary response upon the exposure to micro(nano)plastics, whereas the emitted organic chemicals were mainly responsible for DNA damage involving most of the DNA repair pathways (e.g., base/nucleotide excision repair, mismatch repair, double-strand break repair), implying their severe threat to membrane structure and DNA replication of microorganisms. Therefore, the persistent release of discarded face masks derived pollutants might exacerbate water quality and even adversely affect aquatic microbial functions. The synthesis of trans‐4a,12b‐dihydrodibenzo[f,h]quinolin‐2(1H)‐ones (2), dibenzo[f,h]quinolin‐2(1H)‐ones (3) and 3,4‐dihydrodibenzo[f,h]quinolin‐2(1H)‐ones (4)via photo‐induced annulation of 6‐([1,1′‐biphenyl]‐2‐yl)pyridine‐2(1H)‐ones (1) under irradiation of a 313 nm UV light was described. Compounds 2 were obtained in 82–95% yields when the irradiation time was 3 h. Products 3 were obtained by irradiating 1 for 12 h in the presence of iodine. Summary: Phi29 DNA polymerase (Phi29 Pol) has been successfully applied in DNA nanoball‐based sequencing, real‐time DNA sequencing from single polymerase molecules and nanopore sequencing employing the sequencing by synthesis (SBS) method. Among these, polymerase‐assisted nanopore sequencing technology analyses nucleotide sequences as a function of changes in electrical current. This ionic, current‐based sequencing technology requires polymerases to perform replication at high salt concentrations, for example 0.3 M KCl. Nonetheless, the salt tolerance of wild‐type Phi29 Pol is relatively low. Here, we fused helix–hairpin–helix (HhH)2 domains E‐L (eight repeats in total) of topoisomerase V (Topo V) from the hyperthermophile Methanopyrus kandleri to the Phi29 Pol COOH terminus, designated Phi29EL DNA polymerase (Phi29EL Pol). Domain fusion increased the overall enzyme replication efficiency by fourfold. Phi29EL Pol catalysed rolling circle replication in a broader range of salt concentrations than did Phi29 Pol, extending the KCl concentration range for activity up to 0.3 M. In addition, the mutation of Glu375 to Ser or Gln increased Phi29EL Pol activity in the presence of KCl. In this work, we produced a salt‐tolerant Phi29 Pol derivative by means of (HhH)2 domain insertion. The multiple advantages of this insertion make it a good substitute for Phi29 Pol, especially for use in nanopore sequencing or other circumstances that require high salt concentrations. Our previous studies reported that urine-derived stem cells (USCs) possess a strong self-renewal ability and multidirectional differentiation potential and thus are an ideal candidate cell source for hepatocellular transplantation. USC transplantation may repair the pathological changes of chronic liver injury to a certain extent, and hypoxia pretreatment may improve the recovery efficiency of USCs. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate the possible mechanism of the improved recovery efficiency of hypoxia-pretreated USCs. A chronic liver injury model was established by intraperitoneal injection of carbon tetrachloride into nude mice. USCs were transplanted via caudal vein injection. Hematoxylin and eosin staining and Masson's staining were performed to determine the pathology of the liver. Immunofluorescence and frozen section biopsy were performed to determine differentiation and cell fusion in vivo. Cell coculture was used to detect cell fusion in vitro. The proliferative ability of USCs was evaluated using cell viability and colony formation assays, and the migratory functions of USCs were evaluated using wound healing and transwell assays. The degeneration of hepatocytes and the level of fibrosis in the hypoxia transplantation group were improved compared with the normoxia transplantation group. It was found that exogenous USCs may be differentiated into functional hepatocytes or fused with hepatocytes in vivo. C-X-C motif chemokine (CXC) ligand 12 (CXCL12) expression levels in liver tissue of the chronic liver injury model were upregulated compared with those in the control group. The expression of CXC receptor 4 (CXCR4) in hypoxia-pretreated USCs was also significantly upregulated. The results suggested that USCs fused with different types of liver cells and that hypoxia treatment promoted the fusion rate in vitro by upregulating CXCR4 signaling. Furthermore, hypoxia pretreatment promoted cell proliferation, migration, and cell fusion by inducing CXCR4 signaling, leading to USC-elicited liver tissue recovery following injury in vivo. The effects of early-life adversity (ELA) on dendritic differentiation of striatal neurons were investigated in the dorsal striatum including the dorsomedial striatum and dorsolateral striatum (DMS and DLS, respectively). An animal model of ELA was created by changing the growth environment of newborn mouse pups by giving limited bedding and nesting materials from postnatal day 2 to day 9 (P2–P9). One week after the stress paradigm (P16), the dendritic branches and spines of striatal spiny neurons as well as the synapses represented by postsynaptic density protein-95 (PSD-95) in DMS and DLS were stereologically analyzed. Adverse experience in early life selectively affected the spiny neurons in DLS, leading to abundant proximal dendritic branches and an increased number of filopodia-like protrusions, but a reduced number of dendritic spines. The selective effects of stress on neurons in DLS were further identified by reduced expression of PSD-95, including a reduced optical density of PSD-95 immunoreactivity and fewer individual PSD-95 immunoreactive synapses in this region. Notably, stress in early life affected either D1 or D2 dopamine receptor-expressing DLS neurons. These findings suggest that adverse early-life experience delayed the maturation of dendritic spines on neurons in the dorsolateral striatum. Altered dendritic differentiation provoked by stress in early life may contribute critically to the formation of proper neuronal circuits in the dorsal striatum and, therefore, affect striatum-dependent habitual behavior and emotional function later in life. Background: The 3-month period after hospitalization for acute cardiac failure is a vulnerable phase with the highest risk of mortality and rehospitalization. Safety and efficacy of early initiation of sacubitril/valsartan during the index hospitalization for acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF) is unclear. Therefore, we tested whether sacubitril/valsartan could result in a lower rate of a composite outcome of first hospitalization for heart failure and death from cardiovascular causes compared to inhibition of the renin-angiotensin system alone. Methods: We enrolled patients hospitalized for ADHF and reduced ejection fraction at 4 sites; patients were divided into a sacubitril/valsartan group or an angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor (ACEI)/angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) group. All patients were followed up for 3 months after discharge. The primary endpoint was outcomes as a composite of death from cardiovascular causes and rehospitalization for heart failure. Results: In total, 251 patients who received sacubitril/valsartan and 251 patients who received ACEIs/ARBs had similar propensity scores and were included and compared. The primary endpoint was reached in 40 patients (15.9%) treated with sacubitril/valsartan and in 59 patients (23.5%) managed by ACEI/ARB (HR, 0.650; 95% CI: 0.435–0.971; p = 0.035). The NYHA class improved in 72.1% of patients in the sacubitril/valsartan group and in 59.8% of patients in the ACEI/ARB group (HR, 1.303; 95% CI: 1.097–1.548, p = 0.004). The key safety outcomes endpoints did not significantly differ. Conclusions: Among patients hospitalized with ADHF and reduced left ventricular ejection fraction, we observed that sacubitril/valsartan therapy led to reduction in death from cardiovascular causes and rehospitalizations for heart failure when compared to ACEI/ARB therapy alone during the vulnerable phase. Plenty of dust aerosols are emitted into the atmosphere in East Asian regions and significantly impact the regional environment and climate. In the past decade, the frequency of dust storm outbreaks has largely declined in the sources of Asian dust. However, it is still rarely reported how the dust properties after long-range transport in the downstream regions respond to this downtrend. Here we report on the long-term characteristics of dust aerosols over central China with the observations of a polarization lidar at Wuhan (30.5°N, 114.4°E) during 2010–2020. The dust optical depths (DOD) exhibit a decrease trend with a rate of −0.011 yr−1, accounting for 22% of the decrease rate for total aerosol optical depths (AOD) in Wuhan. The mass concentration and columnar mass density of dust also decline with a rate of −2.03 μg·m−3·yr−1 and -1.97 mg·m−2·yr−1, respectively. Spring and winter are the most active seasons for dust intrusion, with seasonal mean DOD of 0.21 and 0.15, respectively. Compared with spring, dust aerosols in winter generally concentrate at lower levels below 1.0 km with a slightly smaller particle depolarization ratio of 0.11 (0.14 in spring), attributing to the weakened nonspherical shape of dust particles under wintertime high-level moisture/polluted conditions. Both the surface PM 10 concentration and lidar-derived dust mass concentration at 0.3 km present a downtrend with a rate of −8.0 μg·m−3·yr−1 and -20.1 μg·m−3·yr−1, respectively. • We developed a model integrating MRI-detected features with EBV DNA to predict the PFS for patients with stage II NPC. • This combined model exhibited better predictive accuracy over the clinical-radiological model, the clinical model and the current TNM stage. • This model could distinguish the low-risk patients with stage II NPC for whom IMRT alone is sufficient. To develop and validate a prognostic nomogram based on MRI-detected features of retropharyngeal and cervical lymph nodes and Epstein–Barr virus (EBV) DNA in patients with stage II nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) to distinguish low-risk patients for whom intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) alone is sufficient. This retrospective study enrolled 894 patients with stage II NPC (596 and 298 in the training and validation cohorts, respectively) with pretreatment MRI between August 2010 and May 2019. All patients received IMRT with or without additional chemotherapy. We identified independent risk factors using univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses. Survival was compared using Kaplan–Meier curves with the log-rank test. Independent factors derived from the multivariate analysis include cervical nodal necrosis (CNN), the extracapsular spread (ECS) of cervical and retropharyngeal lymph nodes, and gamma-glutamyl transferase (γ-GGT). Nomograms A, B, and C were established based on the clinical [tumor-node-metastasis (TNM) stage + Epstein–Barr virus (EBV) DNA], the clinical-radiological [all independent predictors] and the combined models [the clinical-radiological model + EBV DNA], respectively. Nomogram C (C-index 0.769 [0.718–0.820]) demonstrated better risk discrimination than nomogram B (0.762 [0.715–0.809]), nomogram A (0.619 [0.564–0.674]), and the TNM stage (0.560 [0.509–0.611]). In the low-risk group divided by nomogram C, no significant survival differences were observed between patients treated with radiotherapy (RT) alone and other regimens including additional chemotherapy. Conventional wound-dressing materials with structural and functional deficiencies are not effective in promoting wound healing. The development of multifunctional wound dressings is emerging as a promising strategy to accelerate blood coagulation, inhibit bacterial infection, and trigger full-thickness wound into a regenerative process. Herein, multifunctional composite sponges were developed by incorporation of traditional Chinese medicine Kangfuxin (KFX) into alginate (AG)/carboxymethyl chitosan (CMC) via green crosslinking, electrostatic interaction, and freeze-drying methods. It is demonstrated that the AG/CMC/KFX (ACK) sponges exhibit a highly interconnected and porous structure, suitable water vapor transmittance, excellent elastic properties, antibacterial behavior, cytocompatibility, and rapid hemostasis. Further, in a rat full-thickness wounds model, the ACK sponge containing 10% KFX (ACK-10) significantly facilitates wound closure compared to the AC group and ACK sponge containing 5% and 15% KFX. Thus, the multifunctional ACK-10 composite sponge has great promise for the application of full-thickness wound healing. The development of novel magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) with satisfactory biocompatibility for biomedical applications has been the subject of extensive exploration over the past two decades. In this work, we synthesized superparamagnetic iron oxide MNPs coated with polystyrene sulfonic acid (PSS-MNPs) and with a conventional co-precipitation method. The core size and hydrodynamic diameter of the PSS-MNPs were determined as 8–18 nm and 50–200 nm with a transmission electron microscopy and dynamic light scattering, respectively. The saturation magnetization of the particles was measured as 60 emu g−1 with a superconducting quantum-interference-device magnetometer. The PSS content in the PSS-MNPs was 17% of the entire PSS-MNPs according to thermogravimetric analysis. Fourier-transform infrared spectra were recorded to detect the presence of SO3− groups, which confirmed a successful PSS coating. The structural properties of the PSS-MNPs, including the crystalline lattice, composition and phases, were characterized with an X-ray powder diffractometer and 3D nanometer-scale Raman microspectrometer. MTT assay and Prussian-blue staining showed that, although PSS-MNPs caused no cytotoxicity in both NIH-3T3 mouse fibroblasts and SK-HEP1 human liver-cancer cells up to 1000 μg mL−1, SK-HEP1 cells exhibited significantly greater uptake of PSS-MNPs than NIH-3T3 cells.
