(p. 1) -- GRANT FOR CANCER RESEARCH--Dr. Charles T. Thrift, Jr., Florida Southern College President, looks over shoulder of Dr. Boris Sokoloff, director of the college bio-research institute, as Dr. Sokoloff received a $5,000 check from Dr. Walter Winchell (right), founder of Damon Runyon Memorial Cancer Fund. The check, added to the $30,000 previously awarded to the college, was presented at close of the "Leaders of Florida" banquet last Friday night. (p. 1). DEDICATION--James W. Sikes (above) stands beside the esplanade column dedicated in his name during Founders' Week. A Lakeland resident, Sikes has long been a friend of the college. (p. 3).
