Generation of few-cycle FEL pulses with a high extraction efficiency was achieved at JAERI-FEL [1] and KU-FEL [2]. The observed lasing can be understood as superradiance, radiation from bunched electrons in the slippage region. In the superradiance FEL oscillators, the high-extraction efficiency is accompanied by significant energy variation of the electrons during the undulator. Therefore, numerical studies of such FELs should be conducted by unaveraged simulation codes, in which macro-particles are not bound to bunch slices. In this paper, superradiant FEL pulse evolution in the FEL oscillators is studied by using one-dimensional [3] and three-dimensional [4] simulation codes. Laser-induced breakdown has been observed in various combination of gases and lasers. It is known from previous studies that breakdown occurs when the number of electrons exceeds a threshold value through the following stages: generation of seed electrons, acceleration of electrons by inverse Bremsstrahlung, and avalanche multiplication of electrons by impact ionization. We have observed laser-induced breakdown of gases at KU-FEL, the FEL oscillator at Kyoto University. In the thermionic cathode mode (2856 MHz repetition rate, 10 um), breakdown was observed in air, nitrogen, and argon, while no discharge was observed in the photocathode mode operation (29.75 MHz, 9 um). The difference in the two operation modes can be explained by the diffusion of electrons between the micropulses. 超伝導空洞における高調波（ＨＯＭ）減衰は大電流加速においてはますます重要になってきている。既に様々なＨＯＭ減衰器が中程度のビーム電流での加速器に用いられているが、大電流加速においては欠点が大きな問題となっている。我々はＣ形導波管を用いたＨＯＭカップラーを提案する。Ｃ形導波管は矩形導波管を同軸導波管のように位相変形した構造で、内軸と外軸が板で接続されている。矩形導波管と同じようにＣ形導波管は半波長が平均周長に相当するような遮断周波数を持つため、矩形導波管より小さなローパスフィルタを作ることができる。内軸が外軸と板で接続されているため、内軸の冷却が容易であるため、ＨＯＭ電力取出し用コネクターの温度上昇を防ぐことができる。これらの特徴によりＣ形導波管型ＨＯＭカップラーは、これまでのＨＯＭ減衰器の欠点を克服することができる。空洞モデルにＣ形導波管型ＨＯＭカップラーを取り付けた測定により十分なＨＯＭ減衰特性があることが確認された。, Workshop on Energy Recovery Linacs (ERL2019)

A superconducting Compact Energy Recovery Linac (cERL) for electrons was constructed in 2013 at KEK to demonstrate energy recovery concept with low emittance, high-current CW beams of more than 10 mA for future multi-GeV ERL. Recently this cERL was operated not only to demonstrate energy recovery linac high current beam operation but also to promote and conduct a variety of industrial applications such as FEL, THz operation and Rare Isotope Production and irradiation for some materials. 同じ周波数ならば楕円空洞よりサイズが小さく、パッキングファクターにも優れるスポーク空洞の利点を生かしてERL 加速器を小型化し、LCS-γ/X線源を産業・学術分野への利用を図るため、超伝導スポーク空洞の開発を進めている。プレス加工したニオブ製のハーフスポークをフルスポークにするための電子ビーム溶接試験を行っている。スポークは形状が複雑な曲線で、プレス成型による板厚の違いがあるため、溶接個所により条件が変わる。溶接試験の現状について報告する。, 第17回日本加速器学会年会

Delbrück scattering, in which a gamma-ray interacting with a Coulomb field creates an electron-position pair, which subsequently annihilates to generate a gamma-ray which energy is almost identical with the incident gamma-ray, is one of important phenomena to study non-linear effects by QED and vacuum polarization. Koga and Hayakawa have presented that it is possible to measure selectively the amplitude of Delbrück scattering using linearly polarized gamma-ray beams. We have measured the scattered gamma-rays using1-MeVLCSgamma-rays, and calculated the expected spectrum using Geant4., Nuclear Photonics 2020

The compact Energy Recovery Linac (cERL) has been in operation at KEK since 2013 to demonstrate ERL performance and develop ERL technology. Recently KEK has launched an infrared FEL project with a competitive funding. The purpose of this project is to build a mid-infrared FEL at the cERL, and to use that FEL as a light source for construction of the processing database required for industrial lasers. The FEL system is composed of two 3-m undulators and a matching section between them, and generates light with a maximum pulse energy of 0.1 micro-J at the wavelength of 20 microns with an 81.25 MHz repetition rate. A new EM process accounting for polarization effects of gamma--ray elastic scattering was implemented in Geant4. The process can handle an arbitrary state of polarization of the incident beam and correspondingly transfer polarization to the scattered beam. Ta-181は核物質の非破壊分析において、核構造の特徴が似ている核物質の模擬試料として使用するため、励起準位の共鳴幅やスピン・パリティなどの詳細な情報が必要である。そこで、米国デューク大学において、レーザーコンプトンガンマ線ビームを用いて、Ta-181原子核の核共鳴蛍光散乱実験を行った。中心エネルギー約3.0MeV、半値幅約4%のレーザーコンプトンガンマ線ビームを、Ta-181ターゲットに照射し、散乱ターゲットからの共鳴散乱ガンマ線を5台の高純度ゲルマニウム検出器を用いて測定し、入射ガンマ線の偏光面に対する散乱ガンマ線の角度分布を測定した。本講演では、Ta-181の核共鳴蛍光散乱実験の測定方法及び実験結果について報告する。, 日本原子力学会秋の年会

Although semiconductor is a good transparent material for the radiation with the wavelength from mid to far infrared, it becomes highly reflective when the electron-hole plasma is formed on the surface by irradiating the femto- or picosecond laser pulse. Thus, it is possible to use as a reflective switch with high-speed response for the radiation of mid to far infrared range. In this project, we will reveal the reflective characteristics and dynamics of the plasma switch for the mid infrared range at the KU-FEL. At present we are designing the optics and layout for the experiment and making the comparison with the experimental results at the far infrared range. We will show the design of optics for the experiment at KU-FEL and the discussion for the characteristics of the plasma switch at the mid infrared range deduced from the results at the far infrared range., The 11th International Symposium of Advanced Energy Science

近年、金属に代わる軽量で低コストな工業用素材として樹脂材料の需要が増えている。一方、中赤外波長領域は、物質固有の特異な吸収ピークがみられる波長領域であり、これは分子内の振動モードに由来している。様々な種類の樹脂材料の加工効率の向上を考えたとき、使用される樹脂材料ごとに異なるこの吸収特性を利用した非熱加工が理想的な加工手法と考えられる。しかしながら、各々の樹脂材料において、加工に最も適した波長や必要なパワー密度、パルス幅などの情報はほとんど得られていない。これは中赤外波長領域で、波長制御が可能な高出力の光源が存在しないことに起因している。KEKはNEDOからの競争的資金を得て、中赤外FEL（MIR-FEL）の開発を開始した。目的は、KEKにあるcERLを用いてMIR-FELを建設し、そのFELを産業用レーザーの開発に必要な加工用データベースを構築するための光源として使用することである。今年3月にアンジュレータ1台のみを用いた最初のFEL実験が行われ、自発放射よりも有意に増幅された光が観測された。さらに6月に2台のアンジュレータを用いたFEL実験が開始される予定である。本発表では、このFELシステムの概要とFEL発振実験で得られた性能について報告する。, 第17回日本加速器学会年会

現在、日大LEBRAでは高次高調波発生を通じたアト秒光源生成を狙うプロジェクトに参加している。アト秒光源を作り出すには高ピーク強度パルスが必要とされており、これを実現するためFELパルス光を外部共振器に蓄積するための基礎研究を行っている。しかし、日大FELの中赤外での20usのマクロパルスの光では共振器設計は困難が予想される。そこで赤外モードロック・ファイバーレーザーを用いた試験蓄積と光学系づくりを行い、FELパルス蓄積に必要な技術を獲得することを目指す。今回は試験蓄積の状況と、これまでの取り組みやそこから得られる考察を発表する。共振器はモードロック・ファイバーレーザーのパルス繰り返しの倍の周波数で蓄積するように設計し、4枚のミラーによって周回軌道を作る。周回軌道の微調整や入射光のビームサイズおよび発散の調整をすることで共振器内部の蓄積条件に近づけていった結果、透過光からは設計通りの内部蓄積状況になっていることが分かった。他にも、入射光のバックグラウンドノイズがあり、パルス蓄積と区別するための取り組みも紹介する。, 第17回日本加速器学会年会

Q-LEAP基礎基盤研究の課題としてQST、京大、日大、KEKで進めている中赤外FELによるHHGのための基礎研究において、FELのCEPを安定化するためのCEP安定中赤外シード光源を開発している。この光源は、繰り返し20 MHz程度で数10 mW程度のCEP安定化光源を想定しており、現在、Ybファイバーレーザーによる差周波発生光源を設計・構築している。これまでに20 MHzのモードロック発振器、3 W級のプリアンプ、10 W超のアンプの構築し、現在、差周波発生のための波長シフト光発生試験および差周波発生光学系の設計を実施している。本発表では、このレーザーシステム開発についての現状を報告する。, 第17回日本加速器学会年会

われわれは、MeVエネルギーの光子（ガンマ線）の弾性散乱のGeant4への実装を進めてきた。無偏極のガンマ線について、2018年12月にリリースされたGeant4 ver. 10.5 に、われわれのコードが取り込まれたのに続いて、偏極ガンマ線の弾性散乱についてもコードを完成したので、これについて報告する。, 第75回日本物理学会年次大会

QEDは光子と光子の相互作用を予言している。その中の一つ、デルブリュック散乱について、従来デルブリュック散乱の振幅のみを計測する手段がなかった。直線偏光したレーザーコンプトン散乱ガンマ線で計測する手段を提案し計算した結果、特定の角度で計測できることを発見した。そこで、UVSOR放射光施設でレーザーコンプトン散乱ガンマ線の生成を行い、ガンマ線の散乱の計測を開始した。, 日本物理学会 2020年春の年会
