Rapid and precise identification of infectious microorganisms is important across a range of applications where microbial contamination can cause serious issues ranging from microbial resistance to corrosion. In this paper a screen-printed, polymeric β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) modified electrode, affording nanocavities for inclusion of the analytes, is shown as a disposable sensor capable of identifying bacteria by their metabolites. Three bacterial species were tested: two from the Pseudomonas genus, Pseudomonas fluorescens ( P. fluorescens ) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa ( P. aeruginosa ), and Serratia marcescens ( S. marcescens ), a member of the family, Enterobacteriaceae . On biofilm formation each species gave distinct, reproducible, redox fingerprints with a detection limit of 4 × 10 -8 M. Square wave adsorptive stripping voltammetry (SWAdSV) was used for detection. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and cyclic voltammetry (CV) techniques were used to characterize the morphology and electrical conductivity of the modified electrode. We investigated the plasmonic response of a 2-dimensional ordered array of closely spaced (few-nm apart) Au nanoparticles covered by a large-area single-layer graphene sheet. The array consisted of coherently aligned nanoparticle chains, endowed with a characteristic uniaxial anisotropy. The joint effect of such a morphology and of the very small particle size and spacing led to a corresponding uniaxial wrinkling of graphene in the absence of detectable strain. The deposition of graphene redshifted the Au plasmon-resonance, strongly increased the optical absorption of the array and, most importantly, induced a marked optical anisotropy in the plasmonic response, absent in the pristine nanoparticle array. The experimental observations are accounted for by invoking a graphene-mediated resistive coupling between the Au nanoparticles, where the optical anisotropy arises from the wrinkling-induced anisotropic electron mobility in graphene at optical frequencies.

Graphene, which as a new carbon material shows great potential for a range of applications because of its exceptional electronic and mechanical properties, becomes a matter of attention in these years. The use of graphene in nanoscale devices plays an important role in achieving more accurate and faster devices. Although there are lots of experimental studies in this area, there is a lack of analytical models. Quantum capacitance as one of the important properties of field effect transistors (FETs) is in our focus. The quantum capacitance of electrolyte-gated transistors (EGFETs) along with a relevant equivalent circuit is suggested in terms of Fermi velocity, carrier density, and fundamental physical quantities. The analytical model is compared with the experimental data and the mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) is calculated to be 11.82. In order to decrease the error, a new function of E composed of α and β parameters is suggested. In another attempt, the ant colony optimization (ACO) algorithm is implemented for optimization and development of an analytical model to obtain a more accurate capacitance model. To further confirm this viewpoint, based on the given results, the accuracy of the optimized model is more than 97% which is in an acceptable range of accuracy.
