Introduction: Mycoplasma pneumoniae is known as a common cause of respiratory tract infections, especially in children. Regarding extrapulmonary manifestations, many dysfunctions have been linked to circulating IgM antibodies, including eye diseases and disorders. In this report, we aim to highlight the importance of considering Mycoplasma pneumoniae a potential etiological agent that can cause significant eye structures inflammation.

This study overviews and extends a recently developed stochastic finite-temperature Kohn-Sham density functional theory to study warm dense matter using Langevin dynamics, specifically under periodic boundary conditions. The method's algorithmic complexity exhibits nearly linear scaling with system size and is inversely proportional to the temperature. Additionally, a linear-scaling stochastic approach is introduced to assess the Kubo-Greenwood conductivity, demonstrating exceptional stability for dc conductivity. Utilizing the developed tools, we investigate the equation of state, radial distribution, and electronic conductivity of hydrogen at a temperature of 30 000 K. As for the radial distribution functions, we reveal a transition of hydrogen from gaslike to liquidlike behavior as its density exceeds 4g/cm^{3}. As for the electronic conductivity as a function of the density, we identified a remarkable isosbestic point at frequencies around 7 eV, which may be an additional signature of a gas-liquid transition in hydrogen at 30 000 K.

Glioblastoma is a clinically and molecularly heterogeneous disease, and new predictive biomarkers are needed to identify those patients most likely to respond to specific treatments. Through prospective genomic profiling of 459 consecutive primary treatment-naïve IDH-wildtype glioblastomas in adults, we identified a unique subgroup (2%, 9/459) defined by somatic hypermutation and DNA replication repair deficiency due to biallelic inactivation of a canonical mismatch repair gene. The deleterious mutations in mismatch repair genes were often present in the germline in the heterozygous state with somatic inactivation of the remaining allele, consistent with glioblastomas arising due to underlying Lynch syndrome. BACKGROUND: The presence of blebs increases the rupture risk of intracranial aneurysms (IAs). OBJECTIVE: To evaluate whether cross-sectional bleb formation models can identify aneurysms with focalized enlargement in longitudinal series. METHODS: Hemodynamic, geometric, and anatomical variables derived from computational fluid dynamics models of 2265 IAs from a cross-sectional dataset were used to train machine learning (ML) models for bleb development. ML algorithms, including logistic regression, random forest, bagging method, support vector machine, and K-nearest neighbors, were validated using an independent cross-sectional dataset of 266 IAs. The models ability to identify aneurysms with focalized enlargement was evaluated using a separate longitudinal dataset of 174 IAs. Model performance was quantified by the area under the receiving operating characteristic curve (AUC), the sensitivity and specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, F1 score, balanced accuracy, and misclassification error. RESULTS: The final model, with three hemodynamic and four geometrical variables, along with aneurysm location and morphology, identified strong inflow jets, non-uniform wall shear stress with high peaks, larger sizes, and elongated shapes as indicators of a higher risk of focal growth over time. The logistic regression model demonstrated the best performance on the longitudinal series, achieving an AUC of 0.9, sensitivity of 85%, specificity of 75%, balanced accuracy of 80%, and a misclassification error of 21%. CONCLUSIONS: Models trained with cross-sectional data can identify aneurysms prone to future focalized growth with good accuracy. These models could potentially be used as early indicators of future risk in clinical practice.

Profound changes due to Open-Access (OA) publications lead to organizational changes in universities and libraries. This study examines Israeli librarians' perceptions regarding their role and the academic library's role in promoting OA-publications, including the barriers, challenges, needs, and requirements necessary to promote OA publishing. Lack of a budget for OA-agreements, no cooperation from university management, and researchers' unfamiliarity with OA were among the most prominent barriers. Librarians see great importance in their role of advising researchers regarding OA. However, they insist on a regulated OA-policy at the national and institutional levels to strengthen their status as change-leaders of the OA-movement.

Numerous studies have examined the positive and negative effects of various types of interactions that occur while children view electronic book (e-book) stories. However, the effects of the different types of interactions have not been compared, and more importantly, the optimal amount and reoccurrence of these interactions on children has not been explored. The present study was designed to fill this gap by examining the effect of amount, type and reoccurrence of e-book interactions on kindergarteners' new word learning and story comprehension. To do so, 72 children aged 5-6 year-old viewed three picture e-book stories in one session read by digital narrators, and then repeated this procedure in a second session. Each story included a word clarification or a story elaboration type of interaction, which occurred at low (every two screens), medium (every screen), or high frequency (more than once on most screens) during viewing. Following each story, participants were asked to define target words and answer comprehension questions. Results showed that increasing the amount of interactions, whether word clarifications or elaborations, enhanced word learning and story comprehension following the second exposure to the e-book stories. These findings suggest that interruptions during e-book viewing to explain difficult words or expand the plot by inferential information, do not interfere with the narrative course and do not impair learning processes, at least not in the amounts of interactions examined in this study. These conclusions bear practical implications for the design of e-books, and more generally, for the interactive approach adults may adopt when reading a story to children.

BackgroundVariations in survival among patients with oligodendroglioma are unexplained by known prognostic factors. To assess the impact of peripheral immune profiles on prognosis, we applied immunomethylomics analyses-DNA methylation of archived whole blood samples, to characterize immune cells.MethodsWe compared the proportions of immune cells from patients with oligodendroglioma to other glioma subtypes and controls. We used recursive partitioning analysis (RPA) within the oligodendrogliomas to correlate with survival.ResultsPatients with oligodendrogliomas (141) were median age at diagnosis of 44 years; 57% male; 75% White; 60% prior chemotherapy; and 25% on dexamethasone at sample collection. Patients with oligodendrogliomas had immune profiles more similar to controls than other glioma subtypes, though with notably lower B-cells. RPA of patients with oligodendrogliomas delineated 2 survival groups based on an interaction between age and B-naïve cells. Patients with longer survival (median 24.2 years) were ≤42 years of age with higher B-naïve cells versus worse survival (median 16.9 years) who were ≤42 years of age with lower B-naïve cells or >42 years of age (P = .00032). Patients with worse survival also had lower CD4- and CD8-naïve T-cells. Similar immune profiles were observed in an independent cohort of oligodendroglioma patients prior to surgery.ConclusionsPeripheral blood immune profiles in oligodendroglioma suggested that younger patients with lower B-naïve cells experienced shorter survival. Though our findings lack of validation cohort and use a heterogenous patient population, they suggest peripheral blood immune profiles may be prognostic for patients with glioma and warrant further investigation.

Abstract A green and simple UPLC method was developed and optimized, adopting a factorial design for simultaneous determination of oseltamivir phosphate and remdesivir with dexamethasone as a co-administered drug in human plasma and using daclatasvir dihydrochloride as an internal standard within 5 min. The separation was established on UPLC column BEH C18 1.7 μm (2.1 $$\times $$ × 100.0 mm) connected to UPLC pre-column BEH 1.7 μm (2.1 $$\times $$ × 5.0 mm) at 50 °C with an injection volume of 10 μL. The photodiode array detector (PDA) was set at three wavelengths of 220, 315, and 245 nm for oseltamivir phosphate, the internal standard, and both dexamethasone and remdesivir, respectively. The mobile phase consisted of methanol and ammonium acetate solution (40 mM) adjusted to pH 4 in a ratio of 61.5:38.5 (v/v) with a flow rate of 0.25 mL min−1. The calibration curves were linear over 500.0–5000.0 ng mL−1 for oseltamivir phosphate, over 10.0–500.0 ng mL−1 and 500.0–5000.0 ng mL−1 for dexamethasone, and over 20.0–500 ng mL−1 and 500.0–5000.0 ng mL−1 for remdesivir. The Gibbs free energy and Van't Hoff plots were used to investigate the effect of column oven temperatures on retention times. Fluoride-EDTA anticoagulant showed inhibition activity on the esterase enzyme in plasma. The proposed method was validated according to the M10 ICH, FDA, and EMA’s bioanalytical guidelines. According to Eco-score, GAPI, and AGREE criteria, the proposed method was considered acceptable green.

Objective To assess the effect of endometrial thickness (EMT) on live birth rates (LBR) in women with endometrial lining between 7.0–9.9 mm. Methods This retrospective cohort study included women who underwent fresh and frozen embryo transfers between 2008 and 2018, grouped according to their maximum EMT; group 1, 7.0–7.9 mm; group 2, 8.0–8.9 mm; and group 3, 9.0–9.9 mm and underwent blastocyst transfer. Results The study included 7,091 in-vitro fertilization cycles: 1,385 in group 1, 3,000 in group 2, and 2,706 in group 3. The combined LBR was 22.2%. The mean age of women at oocyte retrieval day was 36.7±4.5 years. There was no difference in female age at oocyte retrieval or in the quality of embryos transferred between the three groups. This article explores the question of the integration ability of peripheral regions into innovation-led growth. While previous research has suggested that peripheral regions may be at a disadvantage, recent studies have argued that there may be potential benefits to their integration into the innovation process. This article offers a different approach for the examination of this controversy. First, it uses knowledge-based occupations as a measure of innovation activity (instead of types of activities such as startups, high-tech activities or services). Second, it considers innovation advance under two perspectives: demand (as measured by types of occupations installed in a region) and supply (as measured by types of occupations of the resident labour force). We use regression analysis to compare trends in the last two decades in Israel.Although findings indicate a process of adaptation of both periphery and centre to the innovation trend (in terms of increasing relative growth of high-level occupations), both in terms of supply and demand, steady gaps between the growth coefficients lead to a process of degradation of the periphery: lower increase of skills in the periphery and lower adaptation of demand to increasing skills. This results in a higher commuting rate (or migration) of skilled workers from the periphery, a substantial relative concentration of blue-collar occupations and an increasing supply of unskilled workers to the centre.The prevention or attenuation of such a process requires the consideration of policy measures regarding the prevailing ecosystem factors.

Abstract Background Cardiogenic shock (CS) remains a major cause of in-hospital mortality in the setting of acute myocardial infarction (AMI). However, little evidence is available regarding the optimal order of intra-aortic balloon counter-pulsation (IABP) insertion and primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI). The aim of this study was to assess the hospital and short-term survival benefits of two different IABP insertion approaches, before versus after PPCI in patients with acute myocardial infarction and cardiogenic shock. Results Total mortality was 80 patients representing 48.4% of the total 165 studied patients; 60 patients died during the hospital admission period, while the remaining 20 patients died post-discharge. In-hospital mortality was significantly higher in Post-PPCI–IABP group 40 (49.4%) versus Pre-PPCI–IABP group 20 (23.8%) (P = 0.001). Moreover, the mortality difference between the two groups was sustained over six-month follow-up period, where 15 patients (18.5%) died in the Post-PPCI–IABP group, while only 5 patients 6.0% died in the Pre-PPCI–IABP (P = 0.001). Conclusions Early IABP insertion before PPCI is associated with improved in-hospital and long-term survival when used for patients presenting with AMI complicated by hemodynamic instability.

Abstract Background Assessments of gaze direction (eye movements), pupil size, and the pupillary light reflex (PLR) are critical for neurological examination and neuroscience research and constitute a powerful tool in diverse clinical settings ranging from critical care through endocrinology and drug addiction to cardiology and psychiatry. However, current bedside pupillometry is typically intermittent, qualitative, manual, and limited to open-eye cases, restricting its use in sleep medicine, anesthesia, and intensive care. Methods We combined short-wave infrared (SWIR, ~0.9-1.7μm) imaging with image processing algorithms to perform rapid (~30 ms) pupillometry and eye tracking behind closed eyelids. Forty-three healthy volunteers participated in two experiments with PLR evoked by visible light stimuli or directing eye movements towards screen targets. Imaging was performed simultaneously on one eye closed, and the other open eye serving as ground truth. Data analysis was performed with a custom approach quantifying changes in brightness around the pupil area or with a deep learning U-NET-based procedure. Results Here we show that analysis of SWIR imaging data can successfully measure stimulus-evoked PLR in closed-eye conditions, revealing PLR events in single trials and significant PLRs in nearly all individual subjects, as well as estimating gaze direction. The neural net-based analysis could successfully use closed-eye SWIR data to recreate estimates of open-eye images and assess pupil size. Conclusions Continuous touchless monitoring of rapid dynamics in pupil size and gaze direction through closed eyes paves the way for developing devices with wide-ranging applications, fulfilling long-standing goals in clinical and research fields.
