However, the properties of Bayesian and frequentist interval estimators of PLR/NLR have not been extensively studied and compared. In this study, we explore the potential use of the Bayesian method for interval estimation of PLR/NLR, and, more broadly, for interval estimation of the ratio of two independent proportions.We develop a Bayesian-based approach for interval estimation of PLR/NLR for use as a part of a diagnostic device performance evaluation. Our approach is applicable to a broader setting for interval estimation of any ratio of two independent proportions. We compare score and Bayesian interval estimators for the ratio of two proportions in terms of the coverage probability (CP) and expected interval width (EW) via extensive experiments and applications to two case studies. A supplementary experiment was also conducted to assess the performance of the proposed exact Bayesian method under different priors.Our experimental results show that the overall mean CP for Bayesian interval estimation is consistent with that for the score method (0.950 vs. 0.952), and the overall mean EW for Bayesian is shorter than that for score method (15.929 vs. 19.724). Application to two case studies showed that the intervals estimated using the Bayesian and frequentist approaches are very similar.Our numerical results indicate that the proposed Bayesian approach has a comparable CP performance with the score method while yielding higher precision (i.e. a shorter EW). Sonodynamic therapy (SDT), a promising strategy for cancer treatment with the ability for deep tissue penetration, has received widespread attention in recent years. Sonosensitizers with intrinsic characteristics for tumor-specific curative effects, tumor microenvironment (TME) regulation and tumor diagnosis are in high demand. Herein, amorphous CoBiMn-layered double hydroxide (a-CoBiMn-LDH) nanoparticles are presented as multifunctional sonosensitizers to trigger reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation for ultrasound (US) imaging-guided SDT. Hydrothermal-synthesized CoBiMn-LDH nanoparticles are etched via a simple acid treatment to obtain a-CoBiMn-LDH nanoparticles with abundant defects. The a-CoBiMn-LDH nanoparticles give greater ROS generation upon US irradiation, reaching levels ~ 3.3 times and ~ 8.2 times those of the crystalline CoBiMn-LDH nanoparticles and commercial TiO2 sonosensitizer, respectively. This excellent US-triggered ROS generation performance can be attributed to the defect-induced narrow band gap and promoted electrons and holes (e−/h+) separation. More importantly, the presence of Mn4+ enables the a-CoBiMn-LDH nanoparticles to regulate the TME by decomposing H2O2 into O2 for hypoxia relief and US imaging, and consuming glutathione (GSH) for protection against ROS clearance. Biological mechanism analysis shows that a-CoBiMn-LDH nanoparticles modified with polyethylene glycol can serve as a multifunctional sonosensitizer to effectively kill cancer cells in vitro and eliminate tumors in vivo under US irradiation by activating p53, apoptosis, and oxidative phosphorylation-related signaling pathways. A 1 millisecond (1‐ms) vision system that guarantees high efficiency and timely response for tomato defect detection is essential for factory automation. Because of various defect appearances, recently many existing researches focus on CNN based defect detection, but few of them attempt to reach high processing speed to adapt to the factorial assembly line. This paper proposes a global to multi‐scale local based parallel architecture with hardwired CNN for tomato defect detection. This architecture breaks down image‐wise detection into pixel‐wise localization and block‐wise classification. The pixel‐wise localization utilizes tomato‐aware information as constraints for localization performance. The block‐wise classification uses a fully pipelined network structure to obtain the classification result for each block as the pixel stream moves through the network. The classification network has a six‐layer lightweight network structure with quantization for hardwired type implementation on FPGA. The experiment results show that the proposed architecture processes 1000 FPS images with 0.9476 ms/frame delay. And for detection performance, this architecture keeps f1−score$f_{1}-score$ at 80.18%, only 1.31% lower than ResNet50 based detection system. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Fish in aquatic ecosystems are often impacted by environmental stressors like temperature fluctuations and exposure to heavy metals. Chromium (Cr6+) is a known environmental pollutant that poses a threat to aquatic life. Various environmental factors, such as water temperature, have been found to affect the toxicity of dissolved chemicals in aquatic ecosystems. We investigated the toxicity of combinations of different concentrations of hexavalent chromium (Cr6+) with high temperatures in fish. Hematological indices demonstrated changes in white blood cells (WBCs), hematocrit (HCT), red blood cells (RBCs), and hemoglobin (Hb) levels during the exposure. The qualitative and semi-quantitative analyses of different tissues confirmed that higher concentrations of Cr6+ caused more significant damage than lower concentrations, with evident alterations observed in circulatory and regressive aspects. Furthermore, brain acetylcholinesterase levels decreased in both single heavy metal exposure and combined exposure at a high temperature. The activity of antioxidant oxidase and immunological parameters increased in all treatment groups compared with the control group following long-term exposure. A significant and increased effect of Cr6+ in the high-temperature groups was observed on the evaluated biomarkers, suggesting a possible synergistic effect between Cr6+ and increased temperature. The integrated biomarker response (IBR) reported the highest level of stress at 10 mg/L Cr6+ combined with high temperature. The IBR analysis revealed that the highest activity of response enzymes, such as acid phosphatase (ACP), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and glutathione S-transferases (GST), was observed in the liver, whereas the gills displayed alkaline phosphatase (ALP), GST, and SOD activity, and the kidneys demonstrated SOD, ACP, and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) to be most active. Through histopathology, antioxidant enzymes, and metabolism- and immunity-related enzymes, we determined that high temperatures enhance the potential toxicity of Cr6+ in fish. We recommend conducting a thorough assessment of the impact of climate change, particularly temperature fluctuations, when studying the toxic effects of metal pollution, like chromium, in aquatic ecosystems. Practices of online censorship around boys' love (danmei) in mainland China have exhibited continuous change, with varying media targets and nominal justifications. This article explores dynamic transformations in the strategies employed by authorities, media platforms, and danmei creators throughout different time periods. Based on the authors' archival research, the censorship of danmei can be classified into three distinct stages: the years 2004 to 2015, 2016 to 2020, and 2021 to the present. These periods are distinguished by the primary danmei media form that authorities most often target for censorship. We argue that China's digital censorship apparatus has given rise to an unrelenting and intensifying suppression of danmei content, which is further bolstered by the sustained promotion of a media discourse that fosters a culture of disdain for danmei, and hence, has limited spaces for the expansion of danmei fandom and its practitioners' creativity. Moreover, we suggest that there is a continuous and combative interplay between danmei culture and censorship, wherein creative practices become highly responsive to government regulations and vice versa. The rapid proliferation of tumors is highly dependent on the nutrition supply of blood vessels. Cutting off the nutrient supply to tumors is an effective strategy for cancer treatment, known as starvation therapy. Although various hydrogel-based biomaterials have been developed for starvation therapy through glucose consumption or intravascular embolization, the limitations of single-mode starvation therapy hinder their therapeutic effects. Herein, we propose a dual-function nutrition deprivation strategy that can block the nutrients delivery through extravascular gelation shrinkage and inhibit neovascularization through angiogenesis inhibitors based on a novel NIR-responsive nanocomposite hydrogel. CuS nanodots-modified MgAl-LDH nanosheets loaded with angiogenesis inhibitor (sorafenib, SOR) are incorporated into the poly(n-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAAm) hydrogel by radical polymerization to obtain the composite hydrogel (SOR@LDH-CuS/P). The SOR@LDH-CuS/P hydrogel can deliver hydrophobic SOR with a NIR-responsive release behavior, which could decrease the tumor vascular density and accelerate cancer cells apoptosis. Moreover, the SOR@LDH-CuS/P hydrogel exhibits higher (3.5 times) compressive strength than that of the PNIPAAm, which could squeeze blood vessels through extravascular gelation shrinkage. In vitro and in vivo assays demonstrate that the interruption of nutrient supply by gelation shrinkage and the prevention of angiogenesis by SOR is a promising strategy to inhibit tumor growth for multimode starvation therapy. Objective: The mechanism of cervical ripening in late pregnancy is still unclear. The vaginal microbiome has been reported to correlate with the preterm birth and short cervix in pregnant women. However, the associations between the cervical maturity and the vaginal microbiome are still poorly understood. We aim to analyze the cervicovaginal microflora in women with ripe cervix and in those who are unripe when delivering at term. Methods: Cervicovaginal swabs were collected between 40 and 41 weeks of gestation from the following 2 different groups of patients: ripe group (n = 25) and unripe group (n = 25). Samples were tested using 16S ribosomal RNA gene high-throughput sequencing and analyzed by bioinformatics platform. Results: This study highlights the relationship between cervical maturity during late pregnancy and the composition of the cervicovaginal microflora. Both α- and β-diversity analyses demonstrated significant differences between women with a ripe cervix and those with an unripe cervix. Notably, the Lactobacillus profile was found to be closely linked to cervical maturity. There was a significant difference in the vaginal community state type, with CST IV being more prevalent in women with an unripe cervix. Furthermore, the association between CST IV and the unripe cervix group, as indicated by the odds ratio of 8.6, underscores its relevance in evaluating cervical maturity, when compared to other Lactobacillus-dominant community state types. Additionally, several bacterial taxa, particularly Lactobacillus, exhibited differential relative abundances between the two groups. Conclusion: This study provided significant evidence regarding the relationship between the vaginal microbiome and cervical maturity, highlighting the differential diversity, community state types, and specific bacterial taxa, such as Lactobacillus, that are associated with cervical maturation status. Background: Familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) is a prevalent hereditary disease that can cause aberrant cholesterol metabolism. In this study, we confirmed that c.415G > A in low-density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR), an FH-related gene, is a pathogenic variant in FH by in silico analysis and functional experiments. Methods: The proband and his family were evaluated using the diagnostic criteria of the Dutch Lipid Clinic Network. Whole-exome and Sanger sequencing were used to explore and validate FH-related variants. In silico analyses were used to evaluate the pathogenicity of the candidate variant and its impact on protein stability. Molecular and biochemical methods were performed to examine the effects of the LDLR c.415G > A variant in vitro. Results: Four of six participants had a diagnosis of FH. It was estimated that the LDLR c.415G > A variant in this family was likely pathogenic. Western blotting and qPCR suggested that LDLR c.415G > A does not affect protein expression. Functional studies showed that this variant may lead to dyslipidemia by impairing the binding and absorption of LDLR to low-density lipoprotein (LDL). Conclusion: LDLR c.415G > A is a pathogenic variant in FH; it causes a significant reduction in LDLR's capacity to bind LDL, resulting in impaired LDL uptake. A biocompatible macromolecule-conjugated gadolinium chelate complex (PAV 2 -EDA-DOTA-Gd) as a new liver-specific contrast agent for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was synthesized and evaluated. An aspartic acid–valine copolymer was used as a carrier and ethylenediamine as a chemical linker, and the aspartic acid–valine copolymer was covalently linked to the small molecule MRI contrast agent Gd-DOTA (Dotarem) to synthesize a large molecule contrast agent. In vitro MR relaxation showed that the T 1 -relaxivity of PAV 2 -EDA-DOTA-Gd (13.7 mmol−1 L s−1) was much higher than that of the small-molecule Gd-DOTA (4.9 mmol−1 L s−1). In vivo imaging of rats showed that the enhancement effect of PAV 2 -EDA-DOTA-Gd (55.37 ± 2.80%) on liver imaging was 2.6 times that of Gd-DOTA (21.12 ± 3.86%), and it produced a longer imaging window time (40–70 min for PAV 2 -EDA-DOTA-Gd and 10–30 min for Gd-DOTA). Preliminary safety experiments, such as cell experiments and tissue sectioning, showed that PAV 2 -EDA-DOTA-Gd had low toxicity and satisfactory biocompatibility. The results of this study indicated that PAV 2 -EDA-DOTA-Gd had high potential as a liver-specific MRI contrast agent. • A macromolecular biocompatible MRI contrast agent was synthesized. • The T 1 -relaxivity of the contrast agent was much higher than that of the current clinical standard. • The contrast agent demonstrated biocompatibility and low toxicity. • The contrast agent targeted the liver, with a longer imaging time and stronger imaging signal than Gd-DOTA. Tight glutenite reservoirs characterization and effective hydrocarbon-bearing formation identification faced great challenge due to ultra-low porosity, ultra-low permeability and complicated pore structure. Fracturing fracture-building technique always needed to obtain deliverability because of poor natural productive capacity. Pore structure characterization and friability prediction were essential in improving such type of reservoir evaluation. In this study, fractured tight glutenite reservoirs in Permian Jiamuhe Formation that located in northwest margin of Junggar Basin, northwest China, were chosen as an example, and 25 typical core samples were drilled and simultaneously applied for mercury injection capillary pressure (MICP), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and whole-rock mineral X-ray diffraction experiments. A novel method of synthetizing pseudo-pore-throat radius (Rc) distribution from porosity frequency spectra was established to characterize fractured formation pore structure. Quartz and calcite were considered as the fragile mineral, and rock mineral component ratio method was used to predict brittleness index. Meanwhile, the statistical model raised by Jin et al. (SPE J 20:518–526, 2015) was used to predict two types of fracture toughness. And then, brittleness index and fracture toughness were combined to characterize tight glutenite reservoirs friability. Combining with maximal pore-throat radius (Rmax, reflected rock pore structure) and friability, our target formations were classified into four clusters. In addition, relationships among pore structure, friability and daily hydrocarbon production per meter (DI) were analyzed, and a model to predict DI from well-logging data was established. Comparison of predicted DI with the extracted results from drill stem test (DST) data illustrated the reliability of our raised models. Summary of Background Data.With the increasing incidence and mortality of refractory mycoplasma pneumonia (RMPP), the early diagnosis and treatment of RMPP have attracted more and more attention and have become a major concern in pediatrics. Objective. The study aimed to analyze the clinical characteristics of children with RMPP and to explore the biomarkers for the early prediction of RMPP, thus providing references for the clinical diagnosis and treatment of RMPP in children. Methods. Baseline clinical characteristics, clinical symptoms, physical examination, chest imaging, and laboratory indicators between children with RMPP and general refractory mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia (GMPP) were compared. Multiple logistic regression analysis was used to determine independent risk factors for RMPP. ROC curves were adopted to analyze the predictive values of biomarkers. Results. The RMPP group had more severe clinical symptoms and manifestations on imaging (including pleural effusion, pulmonary consolidation, and pulmonary atelectasis), a higher incidence of extrapulmonary complications, and a longer duration of hospital stays. Results of multiple logistic regression analysis showed that serum D-dimer (OR = 8.169, P < 0.001), C-reactive protein (CRP) (OR = 1.146, P < 0.001), and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) (OR = 1.025, P < 0.001) levels were independent risk factors for RMPP. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC) in RMPP prediction was 0.841, 0.870, and 0.893 for serum levels of D-dimer, CRP, and LDH, respectively (P < 0.001), with a cutoff value of 1.47 ng/ml, 39.34 mg/L, and 379 IU/L, respectively. Conclusions. Serum D-dimer, CRP, and LDH levels were related to the severity of mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia in children and had potential as biomarkers for the early prediction of RMPP, suggesting great applicative values for the early diagnosis and timely intervention of children with RMPP in clinical practice. Drawing on the notions of transmedia storytelling and engagement, this study investigates how practitioners engage with the process of producing and consuming boys' love (BL) audio dramas, the trans-directional communication and interaction between producers and consumers in the transmedia BL subcultural space, and the implications of their engagement for counterculture. We contribute to the growing field of BL studies by providing insights into how practitioners can stimulate these cultural productions as a part of gender–sexuality-related counterculture in the new media space of audio dramas. We argue that the engagement of BL audio drama producers and consumers ('prosumers') features the sense of countering the predominant heteronormativity in China by producing explicit homosexual romance, actively expanding the story elements transmedially, and bringing queer members into the BL audio drama community. In this way, built by both producers and consumers together, the BL audio drama community is no longer a female-only area, but becomes a more inclusive 'third' space constituted by people with diverse sexual identities and orientations. Given its knowledge, perspectives, and experiences, the BL audio drama community, as a countercultural group, has a certain potential to bridge the divide between the female-led BL subculture and the larger queer community. With its excellent properties such as high thermal conductivity, strong radiation resistance and high electron mobility, diamond has become one of the most suitable materials for radiation detectors. Detector-grade diamond requires low impurity content, low dislocation density and other defects. However, it is very difficult to keep low impurities and low dislocations simultaneously in the actual crystal growth process. In this study, microwave plasma chemical vapor deposition (MPCVD) method was used to grow diamond layer on two high-quality HPHT diamond substrates with the previously optimized process conditions. The nitrogen impurity content and structure of the HPHT substrate and growth layer were characterized and analyzed. The results show that, the content of nitrogen impurity on two HPHT substrates are 7. 1 x 10-6% and 4. 04 x 10-8%, respectively, whereas in their epitaxial diamond layers, the nitrogen impurity content are 2. 1 x 10-7% and 5 x 10-8%, respectively. The full width at half-maximum of the rocking curve shows that the dislocation density of the MPCVD growth layer is comparable to the HPHT substrate, though some dislocations were introduced into the MPCVD growth layer, which increases the stress. Overall, the dislocations in the HPHT substrate and epitaxial layer of single crystal diamond are in the same order of magnitude. Goat intramuscular fat (IMF) deposition is precisely regulated by many key genes as well as transcription factors. Nevertheless, the potential of the regulators of goat IMF deposition remains undefined. In this work, we reported that the transcription factor FOS is expressed at a low level at the early differentiation stage and at a high level in late differentiation. The overexpression of FOS inhibited intramuscular adipocyte lipid accumulation and significantly downregulated the expressions of PPARγ, C/EBPβ, C/EBPα, AP2, SREBP1, FASN, ACC, HSL, and ATGL. Consistently, the knockdown of FOS, facilitated by two distinct siRNAs, significantly promoted intramuscular adipocyte lipid accumulation. Moreover, our analysis revealed multiple potential binding sites for FOS on the promoters of PPARγ, C/EBPβ, and C/EBPα. The expression changes in PPARγ, C/EBPβ, and C/EBPα during intramuscular adipogenesis were opposite to that of FOS. In summary, FOS inhibits intramuscular lipogenesis in goats and potentially negatively regulates the expressions of PPARγ, C/EBPβ, and C/EBPα genes. This study examines docudramatic representations of human‐pet relationships in China, applying the conversational storytelling research method. The study takes Modern Furry Tale (MFT, 2021), a controversial docudrama streamed on the Tencent Video platform as its targeted case. The article argues that contemporary Chinese docudramas do not so much "document reality" as continue a "cinematic tradition" of presenting "selected reality" by showing an idealized view of the pets" living conditions and their owners" family lives. Describing and constructing friendly and companionable pet‐human relationships, these docudramas reinforce the dominant "positive energy" state ideology, propagandistic mainstream family values, and repressive gender ideologies. Water glass (WG) is generally considered to be the most effective activator to prepare alkali-activated slag (AAS) cement in terms of strength and durability. However, the rapid setting and hardening of WG activated slag results in rapid loss of fluidity of AAS concrete mixture, which limits its engineering application. In the paper, the effect of blended inorganic salts containing negative hydration ions on the fluidity, setting time and mechanical strength of AAS cement was studied. The hydration process and hydration products were used to explore the action mechanism. Ba(NO 3) 2 greatly delayed the hydration of AAS cement. The four inorganic salts (KCl, KNO 3 , KBr and NaCl) blended with a small amount of Ba(NO 3) 2 can improve both the initial fluidity and fluidity retention, and a wide setting time range can be obtained to meet engineering requirements. The compressive strength decreased with the increase of inorganic salts. The incorporation of inorganic salt did not change the composition of the main hydration products. Considering the fluidity required by construction, mechanical properties and the durability of structure, it is recommended to add 4%–5% KBr or KNO 3 blended with no more than 0.2% Ba(NO 3) 2 into AAS cement. • Low muscle mass is a novel and effective predictive marker for incidence of cardiovascular events in a general population. • This relationship is independent of multiple well-established CVD risk factors such as smoking, diabetes, hypertension, and dyslipidemia. • Low muscle mass strengthens predicting future cardiovascular events over traditional risk score, especially among people with a moderate-to-high risk. We aimed to explore the association between skeletal muscle mass and cardiovascular events, and its additional value on the assessment of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) over traditional risk scores. The study included 1365 community-based participants aged over 50 years and free of CVDs at baseline. Participants completed detailed assessments at baseline and received a follow-up assessment in 2021–2022 via phone calls or electronic medical records. Skeletal muscle mass was measured using an automatic bioelectric analyzer. Predicted probabilities of 10-year atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) risk were estimated individually with the China-PAR equation. After a mean follow-up of 7.6 years, 144 cardiovascular events were identified. The fully-adjusted hazard ratios (HRs) of cardiovascular events were 0.93 (0.88–0.98) and 1.08 (1.04–1.12) for skeletal muscle mass and predicted 10-year risk, respectively. Among participants over 60 years and with two or more risk factors, cardiovascular events risk increased progressively with each decreasing skeletal muscle tertile. Receiver operating characteristic curves showed that the C-statistic of predicting cardiovascular events for a 10-year risk assessment was slightly increased after adding skeletal muscle mass. The categorical net reclassification improvement (NRI) showed a 56.7% increase in the reclassification. The continuous NRI and integrated discrimination improvement increased as well. Participants with low skeletal muscle mass were more likely to have cardiovascular events. Low muscle mass improved the predictive power of CVD incidence over the original risk score, indicating that muscle mass could be a valuable parameter and a declining value needed early detection in the population. A series of Ti2O3@TiO2 core-shell heterojunction composite photocatalysts with different internal electric fields were synthesized using simple heat treatment methods. The synthesized Ti2O3@TiO2 core-shell heterojunction composites were characterized by means of SEM, XRD, PL, UV–Vis, BET, SPV, TEM and other related analytical techniques. Tetracycline (TC) was used as the degradation target to evaluate the photocatalytic performance of the synthesized Ti2O3@TiO2 core-shell heterojunction composites. The relevant test results show that the photocatalytic performance of the optimized materials has been significantly enhanced compared to Ti2O3, while the photocatalytic degradation rate has increased from 28% to 70.1%. After verification via several different testing and characterization techniques, the excellent catalytic performance is attributed to the efficient separation efficiency of the photogenerated charge carriers derived from the built-in electric field formed between Ti2O3 and TiO2. When the recombination of electrons and holes is occupied, more charges are generated to reach the surface of the photocatalyst, thereby improving the photocatalytic degradation efficiency. Cancer immunotherapy can significantly prevent tumor growth and metastasis by activating the autoimmune system without destroying normal cells. Although cancer immunotherapy has made some achievements in clinical cancer treatment, it is still restricted by systemic immunotoxicity, immune cell dysfunction, cancer heterogeneity, and the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment (ITME). Biomimetic cell-derived nanoparticles are attracting considerable interest due to their better biocompatibility and lower immunogenicity. Background: Familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) is an inherited disorder with markedly elevated low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and premature atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. Although many mutations have been reported in FH, only a few have been identified as pathogenic mutations. This study aimed to confirm the pathogenicity of the LDL receptor (LDLR) c.2160delC variant in FH. Methods: In this study, the proband and her family members were systematically investigated, and a pedigree map was drawn. High-throughput whole-exome sequencing was used to explore the variants in this family. Next, quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR), western blot (WB) assays, and flow cytometry were conducted to detect the effect of the LDLR c.2160delC variant on its expression. The LDL uptake capacity and cell localization of LDLR variants were analyzed by confocal microscopy. Results: According to Dutch Lipid Clinic Network (DLCN) diagnostic criteria, three FH patients were identified with the LDLR c.2160delC variant in this family. An in-silico analysis suggested that the deletion mutation at the 2160 site of LDLR causes a termination mutation. The results of qPCR and WB verified that the LDLR c.2160delC variant led to early termination of LDLR gene transcription. Furthermore, the LDLR c.2160delC variant caused LDLR to accumulate in the endoplasmic reticulum, preventing it from reaching the cell surface and internalizing LDL. This paper aims to add to the underrepresented scholarship on feminist critique in Taiwanese cinema by investigating the ways in which female power has been represented in the female-centred Taiwanese film, The Bold, the Corrupt and the Beautiful (BCB). Through a postfeminist reading, this study attempts to challenge the dichotomy of Asian versus Western values in order to engage Taiwanese films into the global debate of feminism. By revealing the problematization of representations of the seemingly powerful female characters in BCB produced by male filmmakers, we unveil the hidden contradiction of feminism and anti-feminism in order to gain a profound understanding of women's power relations and the socio-cultural perception of them in the Taiwanese context. We categorise the three leading female characters into significations of "dominant feminism", "passive feminism", and "recessive feminism", and show how their power is exercised through scheming, seduction and detainment, respectively. Therefore, we argue that these seemingly powerful female images in BCB are all represented as stigmatic which attempts to equalize female power to negativity thereby essentially disavowing feminism. This article examines the tension between public gender expressions and official regulations in mainland China. Utilizing a critical discourse analysis, we investigate a transition in state-initiated criticism and censorship against the danmei genre and male effeminacy. Focusing on the pandemic period, we use official regulations and state media feature articles as data, 'reticent / han-xu ' politics as a grounding theoretical basis, and statements from mainstream media platforms as secondary resources. We argue that han-xu politics functions as the Chinese party-state's strategic response to a perceived 'crisis of masculinity'. They first invisibilize and marginalize soft masculinities, and if this is not effective, then suppress and prohibit cultural forms that violate hegemonic masculinity, which works to perpetuate the hetero-patriarchal social-familial system. Background: Low muscle mass likely results in reduced capacity for glucose disposal, leading to a significant but under-appreciated contribution to increasing the risk of diabetes. But few prospective studies have investigated the association between the loss of muscle mass and the occurrence of diabetes. We aimed to investigate whether short-term changes in muscle mass affect the incidence of diabetes in a Chinese population. Methods: This study included 1275 individuals without evident diabetes at baseline. In the baseline and re-examination, individuals completed the risk factors survey and underwent body composition measurement. Muscle mass index was defined as the percentage skeletal muscle mass, which was measured by an automatic bioelectric analyzer. Results: After a median follow-up of 2.1 years, 142 individuals developed diabetes (11.1%). There was an inverse association between basal skeletal muscle mass index and the risk of diabetes in participants with impaired glucose regulation but not in those with normal glucose tolerance. Multivariate-adjusted hazard ratios for the risk of developing diabetes were 0.85 (95% CI: 0.74–0.98) and 1.15 (95% CI: 0.98–1.34), respectively. Furthermore, Cox regression analysis revealed that a two-year change in skeletal muscle mass was also inversely associated with the incidence of diabetes in both participants with normal glucose tolerance and with impaired glucose regulation (HR: 0.76, 95% CI: 0.65–0.89; HR: 0.81, 95% CI: 0.71–0.91). Simple Summary: This study combined Internet of Things technology with dairy farm management to set up a smart dairy farm system (SDFS). All kinds of data in the dairy farm will be intelligently captured by various sensors and transmitted to the SDFS in time for corresponding integration analysis. Nutritional grouping was demonstrated to improve production performance and methane and carbon dioxide emission reduction, which is also a hotspot of concern for the public and scientific research. The information from dairy herd improvement (DHI) analysis was used to predict the incidence of mastitis in dairy cows, which would lead to a new way to predict individual mastitis. By fully interpreting the hidden value of dairy farm data, SDFS could help in the better management of dairy farms and promote the application of intelligent systems in dairy farm production. In order to study the smart management of dairy farms, this study combined Internet of Things (IoT) technology and dairy farm daily management to form an intelligent dairy farm sensor network and set up a smart dairy farm system (SDFS), which could provide timely guidance for dairy production. To illustrate the concept and benefits of the SDFS, two application scenarios were sampled: (1) Nutritional grouping (NG): grouping cows according to the nutritional requirements by considering parities, days in lactation, dry matter intake (DMI), metabolic protein (MP), net energy of lactation (NEL), etc. By supplying feed corresponding to nutritional needs, milk production, methane and carbon dioxide emissions were compared with those of the original farm grouping (OG), which was grouped according to lactation stage. (2) Mastitis risk prediction: using the dairy herd improvement (DHI) data of the previous 4 lactation months of the dairy cows, logistic regression analysis was applied to predict dairy cows at risk of mastitis in successive months in order to make suitable measurements in advance. The results showed that compared with OG, NG significantly increased milk production and reduced methane and carbon dioxide emissions of dairy cows (p < 0.05). The predictive value of the mastitis risk assessment model was 0.773, with an accuracy of 89.91%, a specificity of 70.2%, and a sensitivity of 76.3%. By applying the intelligent dairy farm sensor network and establishing an SDFS, through intelligent analysis, full use of dairy farm data would be made to achieve higher milk production of dairy cows, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and predict in advance the occurrence of mastitis of dairy cows. The imbalance between energy intake and energy expenditure leads to the prevalence of obesity worldwide. A strategy to simultaneously limit energy intake and promote energy expenditure would be an important new obesity treatment. Here, we identified rhamnose as a nonnutritive sweetener to promote adipose thermogenesis and energy expenditure. Rhamnose promotes cAMP production and PKA activation through dopamine receptor D1 in adipose tissue. As a result, rhamnose administration promotes UCP1-dependent thermogenesis and ameliorates obesity in mice. Thus, we have demonstrated a rhamnose–dopamine receptor D1–PKA axis critical for thermogenesis, and that rhamnose may have a role in therapeutic molecular diets against obesity. Extracellular electron transfer materials (EETMs) in the environment, such as humic substances and biochar, are formed from the humification/heating of natural organic materials. However, the distribution of extracellular electron transfer (EET) functionality in fresh natural organic materials has not yet been explored. In the present study, we reveal the wide distribution of EET functionality in proteinaceous materials for the first time using an anaerobic pentachlorophenol dechlorinating consortium, whose activity depends on EETM. Out of 11 natural organic materials and 13 reference compounds, seven proteinaceous organic materials (albumin, beef, milk, pork, soybean, yolk, and bovine serum albumin) functioned as EETMs. Carbohydrates and lipids did not function as EETMs. Comparative spectroscopic analyses suggested that a β-sheet secondary structure was essential for proteins to function as EETMs, regardless of water solubility. A high content of reduced sulfur was potentially involved in EET functionality. Although proteinaceous materials have thus far been considered simply as nutrients, the wide distribution of EET functionality in these materials provides new insights into their impact on biogeochemical cycles. Nitrates can stimulate the biosynthesis of hydrophilic yellow pigments (HYPs) in Monascus ruber CGMCC 10910. To explore the molecular mechanisms whereby nitrates (NaNO3 and NH4NO3) regulate HYP production, an integrated transcriptomic and proteomic analysis was conducted in this study. Nitrate addition led to an approximately 75% higher HYP production compared with the untreated group, especially compounds Y3 and Y4. Comparative transcriptomic analysis found that mpigsA, H, K, L, and P genes involved in yellow pigment biosynthesis were significantly upregulated. In addition, pigment biosynthesis-related (carbon catabolism, amino acid metabolism, polyketide synthesis, and fatty acid metabolism) genes were upregulated to provide precursors and energy for HYP biosynthesis and cell growth. Secretion-related (cytomembrane ergosterol biosynthetic, and transport) pathways were also noticeably regulated to accelerate transmembrane transport of HYPs. Meanwhile, proteomic analysis showed that nitrates improved the protein expression of hybrid polyketide synthase-nonribosomal peptide synthetase, oxidoreductase, glucoamylase, endo-1,4-beta-xylanase, O-acetylhomoserine, and isocitrate lyase to enhance HYP production. These findings demonstrated the regulatory mechanism of nitrates for enhancing HYP production in Monascus. High-throughput sequencing technologies have revealed that the lungs contain a variety of low biomass microbiota associated with various lung diseases. Rat model is an important tool to understand the possible causal relationship between pulmonary microbiota and diseases. Antibiotic exposure can alter the microbiota, however, a direct influence of long-term ampicillin exposure on commensal bacteria of healthy lungs has not been investigated, which could be useful in the study of the relation between microbiome and long-term lung diseases, especially in animal model-making of lung diseases. The rats were aerosolized ampicillin of different concentrations for five months, and then the effect on the lung microbiota was investigated using 16S rRNA gene sequencing. The ampicillin treatment by a certain concentration (LA5, 0.2 ml of 5 mg/ml ampicillin) administration leads to profound changes in the rat lung microbiota but not in the low critical ampicillin concentration (LA01 and LA1, 0.1 and 1 mg/ml ampicillin), when compared to the untreated group (LC). The genus Acidobacteria_Gp16 dominated the ampicillin treated lung microbiota while the genera Brucella, Acinetobacter, Acidobacteria_Gp14, Sphingomonas, and Tumebacillus dominated the untreated lung microbiota. The predicted KEGG pathway analysis profile revealed some difference in the ampicillin treated group. The study demonstrated the effects of different concentrations of ampicillin treatment on lung microbiota of rats in a relatively long term. It could serve as a basis for the clinical use of antibiotic and the use of ampicillin to control certain bacteria in the animal model-making of respiratory diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Background: The risk of cardiovascular diseases has rapidly increased among middle-aged and elderly. However, little is known about the relationship of body composition changes with the risk of cardiovascular events among this population in China. We explored the associations of 2-year changes in fat percentage (fat%) and fat-free mass percentage (FFM%) with subsequent cardiovascular events in a middle-aged and elderly community-based cohort. Methods: This study included 1048 participants (456 men [43.51%], aged 50–80 years) without overt cardiovascular disease, who underwent two examinations during 2013–2014 and 2015–2016. All participants were followed up until 2022 for cardiovascular events. A bioelectrical impedance analyzer was used to calculate fat% and FFM% change. Results: At baseline, the median body mass index (BMI), fat%, and FFM% were 23.9 (22.1–25.9) kg/m2, 27.2 (20.8–33.6)%, and 72.8 (66.4–79.2)%, respectively. Two-year changes in fat% and FFM% were 0.31 (− 5.53 to 6.87)% and − 0.12 (− 2.36 to 2.06)%. During an average follow-up of 5.5 years, 86 cardiovascular events (8.21%) occurred. Cox regression models showed that hazard ratios (HRs) of every 2% change in fat% and FFM% for cardiovascular events were 1.04 (95% confidence interval [CI] 1.01–1.07) and 0.84 (95% CI 0.74–0.95), respectively. Compared with participants with stable fat% (–2% ≤ ⊿fat% < 2%), those with fat% gain ≥ 2% had an increased risk of cardiovascular events (HR 2.07, 95% CI 1.08–3.97). FFM% loss > 8% was associated with a higher risk of cardiovascular events (HR 3.83, 95% CI 1.29–11.4). Toxic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are often released into the environment during the combustion and processing of fossil fuels and are capable of causing significant pollution to people and the environment. One of the representative substances of PAHs is phenanthrene, which is often studied as a model compound for PAHs treatment. In this study, we compared the results of transcriptome analysis of Pseudomonas stutzeri LH-42 in two different culture conditions under phenanthrene-induced culture (test group) and glucose-induced culture (control group), and analysed the key enzymatic mechanisms of Pseudomonas stutzeri LH-42 in the biodegradation of phenanthrene. In our experiments, the transcriptome results showed that a total of 380 genes were more than twofold differentially expressed in the test group, of which 187 genes were significantly up-regulated in expression under Phenanthrene induction. Among the 380 differentially expressed genes, 90 genes were involved in Phenanthrene biodegradation, mainly including genes involved in biometabolism, cellular chemotaxis, substrate transport, signal induction and other related processes. Based on the transcriptome sequence analysis of Pseudomonas stutzeri LH-42 at the time of phenanthrene induction, a total of 25 dioxygenase genes were identified, and the related genes were mainly concentrated in two relatively concentrated clusters of PAHs biodegradation genes. The transcriptome analysis resulted in a complete set of enzyme genes related to the phenanthrene biodegradation pathway. The analysis of key enzymes led to the inference of a possible phenanthrene biodegradation pathway: the salicylic acid degradation pathway. Two-component systems (TCSs) are widespread regulatory systems in bacteria, which control cellular functions and play an important role in sensing various external stimuli and regulating gene expression in response to environmental changes. Among the nineteen genes for the two-component system found in the whole genome of Pseudomonas stutzeri LH-42, one of the TCS coded by the HK-1 gene, has a structural domain similar to the HAMP domain, which plays an important role in regulating bacterial virulence in other bacteria. In this study, the deletion mutant LH-42△HK-1 was successfully constructed using the lambda Red recombinase system. Compared with the wild-type strain, the mutant strain LH-42△HK-1 showed a significantly slower growth time and a longer stationary phase time. In addition, in the plate bacteriostatic experiment with Escherichia coli DH5α as an indicator strain, the inhibition zone size of the mutant strain showed significantly less than the wild-type strain(P<0.05), indicating that the virulence of the mutant strain was significantly reduced compared with the wild-type strain. To evaluate and establish a prediction model of the outcome of induced labor based on machine learning algorithm. This was a cross-sectional design. The subjects were divided into primipara and multipara, and the risk factors for the outcomes of induced labor were assessed by multifactor logistic regression analysis. The outcome model of labor induced with oxytocin (OT) was constructed based on the four machine learning algorithms, including AdaBoost, logistic regression, naive Bayes classifier, and support vector machine. Factors, such as accuracy, recall, precision, F1 value, and receiver operating characteristic curve, were used to evaluate the prediction performance of the model, and the clinical application of the model was verified. A total of 907 participants were included in this study. Logistic regression algorithm obtained better results in both primipara and multipara groups compared to the other three models. The accuracy of the model for the prediction of "successful induction of labor" was 94.24% and 96.55%, and that of "failed induction of labor" was 65.00% and 66.67% in the primipara and the multipara groups, respectively. This study established a prediction model of OT-induced labor based on the Logistic regression algorithm, with rapid response, high accuracy, and strong extrapolation, which was critical for obstetric clinical nursing. Clinically, cancer drug resistance to chemotherapy, targeted therapy or immunotherapy remains the main impediment towards curative cancer therapy, which leads directly to treatment failure along with extended hospital stays, increased medical costs and high mortality. Therefore, increasing attention has been paid to nanotechnology-based delivery systems for overcoming drug resistance in cancer. This article interrogates the possibility that the digital game arena plays a role as a 'counterpublic sphere' where alternative voices that violate the hegemonic narratives in the mainstream media culture can be expressed. Exemplified by The Invisible Guardian, a Chinese interactive role-playing game, we present the first study to bring political perspective into the Chinese digital game studies, combining narrative analysis and players' experience to provide a comprehensive understanding of political engagement in China's digital game arena. We argue that the digital game uses various strategies to portray figures from different political parties in a way that subverts mainstream main-melody dramas and sheds light on sensitive historical movements. This implies the potential of Chinese digital games to become a counterpublic sphere, delivering alternative voices that challenge the mainstream media discourse and stimulate gamers' political introspection. Neuropathic pain is one of the most common conditions requiring treatment worldwide. Salidroside (SAL), a phenylpropanoid glucoside extracted from Rhodiola, has been suggested to produce an analgesic effect in chronic pain. However, whether SAL could alleviate pain hypersensitivity after peripheral nerve injury and its mode of action remains unclear. Several studies suggest that activation of the spinal NOD-like receptor protein 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome and its related proteins contribute to neuropathic pain's pathogenesis. This study investigates the time course of activation of spinal NLRP3 inflammasome axis in the development of neuropathic pain and also whether SAL could be an effective treatment for this type of pain by modulating NLRP3 inflammasome. In the chronic constriction injury (CCI) mice model, spinal NLRP3 inflammasome-related proteins and TXNIP, the mediator of NLRP3, were upregulated from the 14th to the 28th day after injury. The TXNIP and NLRP3 inflammasome-related proteins were mainly present in neurons and microglial cells in the spinal dorsal horn after CCI. Intraperitoneal injection of SAL at 200 mg/kg for 14 consecutive days starting from the 7th day of CCI injury could ameliorate mechanical and thermal hypersensitivity in the CCI model. Moreover, SAL inhibited the activation of the TXNIP/NLRP3 inflammasome axis and mitigated the neuronal loss of spinal dorsal horn induced by nerve injury. How phonological neighborhood affects lexical retrieval can shed important light on lexical organization and processing. Yet these effects are unclear, particularly in Mandarin Chinese. This is likely because the working definition of phonological neighbors (i.e., the one-phoneme edit rule) used in Indo-European languages inadequately characterizes the phonological similarity among Mandarin words, which have simpler syllable structures and lexical tones. The current study proposes a graded Mandarin phonological neighborhood and investigates the impacts of near-to-distant Mandarin phonological neighbors on lexical retrieval. In Study 1, we investigated how Mandarin phonological similarity is influenced by the editing of lexical tone, constituent (onset/rime, initial/final) and phoneme. Native Mandarin speakers rated the similarity between the edited monosyllabic words. We found that constituent-edit neighbors were rated as the most dissimilar, followed by phoneme-edit neighbors, while tone-edit neighbors were the most similar. In Study 2, we calculated the constituent-, phoneme- and tone-edit phonological neighborhood densities and frequencies for 4,706 monosyllabic Mandarin words. We then utilized extant datasets to examine how the density and frequency of neighbors at varied distances, as well as of homophonic neighbors, impact response latencies in word naming, visual lexical decision, and picture naming tasks. The results showed that graded phonological neighbors had differential impacts on lexical retrieval efficiency: distant (constituent-edit) neighbors facilitated word retrieval, while near (phoneme-, tone-edit and homophonic) neighbors had inhibitory effects. We discuss these findings within an interactive activation and competition framework and suggest future directions to study the representation and processing of the Mandarin phonological lexicon. This study examines the cultural representations of Chinese military-action films which re-interpret China's non-intervention policy and give China's foreign engagements rationality and legitimation. This articles examines the representation of the blurred boundary between bromance and romance in the Chinese drama, S.C.I. Mystery (2018) and how it can be interpreted in Chinese gender discourse because it is the unique boys' love fanfiction being adapted for an online drama in mainland China. We use the term bromance-as-masquerade to denote a representational strategy of depicting male–male romance under the guise of homosocial bromance. Bromance-as-masquerade facilitates the promotion of male intimacy cultivated by the leading actors themselves and the production team in the marketing process. Their actions demonstrate a proactive engagement in the counterpublic discourse; however, this article argues that the self-censored modification of the plot-setting represents a refusal and exclusion of boys' love subculture, which places the notion of the counterpublic in question. A simple and rapid method for streptavidin (SA) detection is developed based on a cationic conjugated polymer (CCP)‐mediated fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) between poly [(9,9‐bis(6′‐N, N, N‐trimethylammonium) hexyl) fluorenylene phenylene (PFP) and SYBR Green I (SG I). A hairpin DNA labeled with biotin at the 3′ terminus was designed for the binding of SA and SYBR Green I (SG I) so that an amplified signal of emission fluorescence was detected as the CCP‐mediated FRET was induced in the presence of SA. The calibration curve exhibited a linear correlation between fluorescence intensity and SA concentration from 0 to 40 nM, and the linear regression equation was y=0.0467x+0.5814, with a correlation coefficient (R2) of 0.9927, and the detection limit was 0.5 nM. Further investigations showed that the method exhibited a significantly high specificity for the target protein and a satisfactory practical performance when human serum samples spiked with SA were tested. The results suggest that this strategy is practically applicable as it may enable an effective tool for studies on the ligand‐protein interactions as well as the qualitative and quantitative detection of proteins. Since Hunan TV's musical talent show Super Girl (2004-2006) had featured high profiling of female tomboyism, presenting numerous female contestants in masculine forms on stage, the tomboyish female celebrity tends to be marginalized, and mostly serve as a foil to the feminine girls who are in the central positions. Until the late 2010s, this curse was broken by Liu Yuxin, a tomboyish female singer in the top Chinese talent show Young With You Season 2 who obtained huge popularity and took the central position in her band. Exemplified by Liu's case, this essay offers a postfeminist reading of the ambivalent ways in which Liu's persona is constructed as a paradoxical site by presenting on-stage performance in a non-normatively masculine manner, and an off-stage personality that is traditionally feminine. In doing so, we unveil the masquerade of the contemporary Chinese talent shows, which attempt to convey an impression of their tolerance of non-traditional feminine identities, while disavowing female masculinity when offset by more conventionally feminine traits. Sonodynamic therapy (SDT) has attracted increasing attention owing to its superior tissue penetration compared with other therapies. However, the development of multifunctional sonosensitizers with imaging capability and high production efficiency of reactive oxygen species (ROS) is still a challenge for current sonodynamic cancer therapy. Herein, we report the design and preparation of amorphous 2D Mn-doped CoMo-layered double hydroxide (a-Mn-CoMo-LDH) nanosheets (NSs) through acid etching-induced crystalline-to-amorphous phase transformation as a highly active nano-agent for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-guided SDT. The a-Mn-CoMo-LDH NSs exhibit superior ROS production capacity compared with amorphous CoMo-LDH NSs (∼1.3 times) and crystalline Mn-CoMo-LDH NSs (∼3.9 times) under ultrasound (US) irradiation, which is ∼ 9.9 times of the previously reported TiO 2 sonosensitizer. The doped Mn4+ in the a-Mn-CoMo-LDH NSs can not only decompose H 2 O 2 into O 2 to alleviate the hypoxia level in tumor microenvironment (TME), but also consume glutathione (GSH) to reduce its clearance of ROS, promoting the SDT performance synergistically. Importantly, the GSH consumption can partially reduce the Mn4+ to Mn2+ within the tumors, which can serve as an agent for T 1 -weighted MRI, thus endowing the a-Mn-CoMo-LDH NSs with excellent MRI capability. Therefore, the as-prepared a-Mn-CoMo-LDH NSs with polyethylene glycol modification can be used as an efficient nano-agent for MRI-guided SDT, which can effectively achieve apoptosis of cancer cells in vitro and eradication of tumors in vivo under US irradiation. AbstractCholesterol is regarded as a signaling molecule in regulating the metabolism and function of fat cells, in which 7-Dehydrocholesterol reductase (DHCR7) is a key enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of 7-dehydrocholesterol to cholesterol, however, the exact function of DHCR7 in goat adipocytes remains unknown. Here, the effect of DHCR7 on the formation of subcutaneous and intramuscular fat in goats was investigated in vitro, and the result indicated that the mRNA level of DHCR7 showed a gradual downward trend in subcutaneous adipogenesis, but an opposite trend in intramuscular adipogenesis. In the process of subcutaneous preadipocytes differentiation, overexpression of DHCR7 inhibited the expression of adipocytes differentiation marker genes (CEBP/α, CEBP/β, SREBP1 and AP2), lipid metabolism-related genes (AGPAT6, FASN, SCD1 and LPL), and the lipid accumulation. However, in intramuscular preadipocyte differentiation, DHCR7 overexpression showed a promoting effect on adipocyte differentiation marker genes (CEBP/α, CEBP/β, PPARγ and SREBP1) and lipid metabolism-related genes (GPAM, AGPAT6, DGAT1 and SCD1) expression, and on lipid accumulation. Penicillium brevicompactum is a critical industrial strain for the production of mycophenolic acid (MPA). However, the genetic background of Penicillium brevicompactum is unclear, and there are few tools available for genetic manipulation. To investigate its gene function, we first verified the feasibility of a pair of citrate synthase promoter (Pcit) and terminator (Tcit) from P. brevicompactum by constructing a fluorescent expression cassette. Based on this, an RNAi vector was designed and constructed with reverse promoters. This study focused on the functional investigation of the pbpcz gene in P. brevicompactum , a regulator belonging to the Zn(II) 2 Cys 6 family. RNAi was used to silence the pbpcz gene, providing a valuable tool for genetic studies in P. brevicompactum. After seven days, we observed differences in the number of spores between different phenotypes strains of pbpcz gene. Compared to the wild-type strain (WT), the spore yield of the pbpcz gene silencing mutant (M2) was only 51.4 %, while that of the pbpcz gene overexpressed mutant (SE4) was increased by 50 %. Expression levels of the three genes (brlA , abaA , and wetA) comprising conidia's central regulatory pathway were significantly reduced in the pbpcz gene silencing mutant, while fluorescence localization showed that PbPCZ protein was mainly distributed in spores. The results indicated that the pbpcz gene is critical for conidia and asexual development of P. brevicompactum. In addition, overexpressing the pbpcz gene resulted in a 30.3 % increase in MPA production compared to the wild type, with a final yield of 3.57 g/L. These results provide evidence that PbPCZ acts as a positive regulator in P. brevicompactum , controlling MPA production and regulating conidia and asexual development. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
