Tert-butyl functional groups can modulate the self-assembly behavior of organic molecules on surfaces. However, the precise construction of supramolecular architectures through their controlled thermal removal remains a challenge. Herein, we precisely controlled the removal amount of tert-butyl groups in tetraazaperopyrene derivatives by stepwise annealing on Ag(111). The evolution of 4tBu-TAPP supramolecular self-assembly from the grid-like structure composed of 3tBu-TAPP through the honeycomb network formed by 2tBu-TAPP to the one-dimensional chain co-assembled by tBu-TAPP and TAPP was successfully realized. This series of supramolecular nanostructures were directly visualized by high resolution scanning tunneling microscopy. Tip manipulation and density functional theory calculations show that the formation of honeycomb network structure can be attributed to the van der Waals interactions, N–Ag–N coordination bonds, and weak C–H⋯N hydrogen bonds. Further addition of two tert-butyl groups (6tBu-TAPP) leads to a completely different assembly evolution, due to the fact that the additional tert-butyl groups affect the molecular adsorption behavior and ultimately induce desorption. This work can possibly be exploited in constructing stable and long-range ordered nanostructures in surface-assisted systems, which can also promote the development of nanostructures in functional molecular devices. Higher-order topological states, as emergent topological phases of matter, originating from condensed matter physics, have sparked a vibrant exploration of topological insulators. Their topologically protected multidimensional localized states are typically associated with nontrivial bulk band topology, and the significant impact of lattice geometry is unconsciously overlooked. Here, we construct coupled acoustic cavities on a two-dimensional honeycomb lattice to investigate the sensitivity of higher-order topological modes to the variations of edge contour. Fractional charge is utilized to accurately predict topological modes with distinct topological orders, in spite of the minimal bulk bandgaps inherent in the honeycomb lattice and bound states in the continuum. It is found that the presence and absence of the first-order and higher-order topological modes in the same topological phase are tightly linked to the sample boundaries, which can be demonstrated by both theoretical analysis and numerical calculation. Our study also discusses potential physical realization of geometry-dependent topological states across different platforms, providing inspiration for the prospective application of topological devices in acoustics. Using the Full Potential Linear Augmented Plane Wave and the pseudo-potential method based on the Density Functional Theory, we investigate the physical properties of two-dimensional (2D) boron nitride, carbon nitride, and boron carbide as well as their ternary system boron carbon nitride (BCN). The structural and optoelectronic properties are determined and discussed in detail with available theoretical and experimental results. We show that the studied physical properties are influenced and tunable by atom concentration. A high concentration of nitrogen (> 50%) disturbs the honeycomb structure of binary and ternary alloys. Additionally, the optoelectronic properties are very sensitive to the amount of boron and nitrogen atoms. The zero bandgap is only conserved for B3C12N3 and B6C6N6 ternary systems. A large bandgap was observed for B9N9 (∼3.9 eV) and a moderate one for B6N12 and B3N15 (∼2 eV). The coexistence of boron, carbon, and nitrogen atoms with different concentrations has important optical properties as they can absorb light in all spectra. However, they have more active absorption in the ultraviolet than visible regions. It is more interesting to use ternary BCN than binary or pristine alloys with tunable optoelectric properties, by varying the nitrogen content in nanodevices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper introduces novel mathematical optimisation models for the 2-Dimensional guillotine Cutting Stock Problem with Variable-Sized Stock that appears in a Spanish company in the honeycomb cardboard industry. This problem mainly differs from the classical cutting stock problems in the stock, which is considered variable-sized, i.e. we have to decide the panel dimensions, width, and length. This approach is helpful in industries where the stock is produced simultaneously with the cutting process. The stock is then cut into smaller rectangular pieces that must meet the customers' requirements, such as the type of item, dimensions, demands, and technical specifications. Furthermore, in the problem tackled in this paper, the cuts are guillotine, performed side to side. The proposed mathematical models are validated using real data from the company, obtaining results that drastically reduce the produced material and leftovers, reducing operation times and economic costs. In this study, we experimentally demonstrate a class of lightweight acoustic metamaterial barriers that block low-frequency sound. The acoustic metamaterial barrier is composed of a thin rubber membrane coated over a stiff honeycomb plate. Our findings, combined with high-fidelity finite element simulations, demonstrate that the sound insulation performance of the acoustic metamaterial surpasses the mass law in three distinct frequency ranges: (a) the stiffness law dominates insulation up to 140 Hz, (b) degeneracy and destructive superposition of high-order natural modes dominate within the frequency range of 300–500 Hz, and (c) destructive interference between high-order resonance and membrane resonance dominates in the frequency range of 800–1200 Hz. Notably, our study highlights the potential of high-order shear vibration of the periodic structure for the resonant bending waves of the honeycomb cell that coincide with the wavelengths of longitudinal sound waves in air, thereby offering new design guidelines for lightweight acoustic metamaterial barriers. The honeycomb's eponymous structure is omnipresent in our every day lives. We want to provide some inspiration to perform structural analyses of these structures and to draw comparisons between them. In the present study, we detect honeycomb patterns and related complex network structures on different length scales ranging from macroscopic objects down to the atomic scale of 2D materials. In 2D materials, a subset of the honeycomb structure—the kagome lattice—is very interesting due to unique material properties. For structure detection, we developed a program written in Python. The program is very adaptable and provides a graphical user interface to modify the detected network interactively. With the help of this program, we directly compare honeycomb structures with atomic network structures. Both honeycombs and 2D atom networks can show local deviations from their characteristic hexagonal pattern. The structural deviations at the macroscopic scale and at the atomic scale are very similar. An electromagnetic parameter-retrieval-based surrogate-assisted optimization (PSAO) algorithm is presented to reduce radar cross section (RCS) by optimizing the on-platform honeycomb absorbing structures. To facilitate the optimization process, the honeycomb structure is transformed to an anisotropic homogeneous slab, and the effective parameters of the slab are extracted by the retrieval algorithm. A multi-fidelity model is employed to reduce the computing-time consumption, in which a Gaussian process (GP) regression model is used as the substitute for the coarse model. The GP model establishes a relationship between the geometry of the honeycomb structure and the RCS response of the target coated with the equivalent slab. Finally, the optimization result of the fine model is achieved through a space mapping strategy. The accuracy of the parameter extraction algorithm is verified by analyzing the honeycomb absorbing structure. Subsequently, the proposed optimization method is applied to a metal plate and a metal cylinder, resulting in a 10 dB reduction of RCS in broadband and wide-angle scenarios. This demonstrates the applicability of the proposed PSAO algorithm to both planar and conformal on-platform honeycomb absorbing structures. Furthermore, an NACA0015 foil is analyzed, showing an average RCS reduction of 10 dB and a minimum RCS reduction of 5 dB in the X-band. These results indicate that the PSAO approach can effectively apply to complicated targets. In this study, a three-point bending test was carried out to determine the mechanical properties of hexagonal-shaped honeycomb core sandwich panels made of jute yarn with two distinct fiber orientations. A custom-made handloom was used to weave the unidirectional jute mat, and hand-layup with the cold press process was applied to fabricate the hexagonal honeycomb sandwich panel. To explore the effectiveness of different natural fibers for producing honeycomb core sandwich panels, a Finite Element Method (FEM) analysis was performed on different natural fibers with different fiber orientations. The resistance to environmental deterioration of bending properties was also investigated. Overall, this work offers perceptive information about the mechanical characteristics of sandwich panels made of jute honeycomb core and their behavior under various climatic circumstances, which may be relevant in a variety of engineering applications. Finally, it is noteworthy that the mechanical properties of jute fibers are anisotropic, which implies that their strength varies with the direction of loading. The excellent shape stability of thermally expanded metamaterials and the good bandgap properties of acoustic metamaterials have a wide range of promising applications in aerospace and sensors. Here, a bi-material-directional honeycomb metamaterial (BHM) with tunable coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) and bandgap properties is proposed. The theoretical analysis and numerical simulations are employed to reveal the thermal deformation mechanism of the BHM. In addition, the analytical expression of the effective Young's modulus is established by considering both tensile and bending deformation. Based on the Bloch theorem, the band structures of the BHM are calculated by the finite element method. Parameter analysis confirms that the CTE and bandgap of the BHM can be simultaneously regulated and drastically adjusted by changing the geometric parameters and material combinations. Meanwhile, the coupling relationship of the effective CTE, Young's modulus, and total effective bandgap width are investigated. The results show that the BHM can have tunable CTE function and large total effective bandgap width by selecting suitable parameters while satisfying stiffness requirements. This study achieves a dual objective of specific CTE properties and bandgap design through rational material selection and shape design, which makes the metamaterials have better tunability and multifunctionality. Due to the limitations of the Kramers-Kronig relationship, how to achieve ultra-wide effective absorption bandwidth remains a challenge for typical magnetic-dielectric absorbers. In the present work, we have explored the possibility of obtaining ultra-wide absorption bandwidth in FeSiAl composites with help of efficient electromagnetic (EM) simulation software-Computer Simulation Technology (CST). Flaky FeSiAl powders covered by CeO 2 have been prepared, in which EM parameters can be tuned by filling ratio of FeSiAl/CeO 2 in FeSiAl/CeO 2 -paraffin composites. The filling ratio has an effect on impedance matching and EM parameters by the arrangement of particles in the paraffin. The composite with 30 wt% flaky FeSiAl/CeO 2 achieves an effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) of 6.48 GHz and the optimal microwave absorption efficiency of 1499.3 dB GHz/(wt%⋅m) at 1.9 mm. Integrated with a macroscale honeycomb structural design, the FeSiAl/CeO 2 composites based metastructure exhibits broadband microwave absorption with an EAB of 14.224 GHz covering from 3.776 GHz to 18 GHz and reflection loss of-65.61 dB at 8.5 GHz. The excellent performances of the designed absorber are ascribed to multiple loss by integrating EM parameters of flaky FeSiAl/CeO 2 and the geometry parameters of honeycomb metasrtucture. Auxetic honeycomb sandwich structures (AHS) composed of a single material generally exhibit comparatively lower energy absorption (EA) and platform stress, as compared to traditional non-auxetic sandwich structures (TNS). To address this limitation, the present study examines the use of aluminum foam (AF) as a filling material in the re-entrant honeycomb sandwich structure (RS). Filling the AHS with AF greatly enhances both the EA and platform stress in comparison to filling the TNS with AF, while the auxetic composite honeycomb sandwich structure effectively addresses interface delamination observed in traditional non-auxetic composite sandwich structures. Subsequently, the positive–negative Poisson's ratio coupling designs are proposed to strengthen the mechanical features of a single honeycomb sandwich structure. The analysis results show that the coupling structure optimizes the mechanical properties by leveraging the high bearing capacity of the hexagonal honeycomb and the great interaction between the re-entrant honeycomb and the filling material. In contrast with traditional non-auxetic sandwich structures, the proposed auxetic composite honeycomb sandwich structures demonstrate superior EA and platform stress performance, suggesting their immense potential for utilization in protective engineering. We use elastic and inelastic neutron scattering (INS) to study the antiferromagnetic (AF) phase transitions and spin excitations in the two-dimensional (2D) zig-zag antiferromagnet FePSe3. By determining the magnetic order parameter across the AF phase transition, we conclude that the AF phase transition in FePSe3 is first-order in nature. In addition, our INS measurements reveal that the spin waves in the AF ordered state have a large easy-axis magnetic anisotropy gap, consistent with an Ising Hamiltonian, and possible biquadratic magnetic exchange interactions. On warming across TN, we find that dispersive spin excitations associated with three-fold rotational symmetric AF fluctuations change into FM spin fluctuations above TN. These results suggest that the first-order AF phase transition in FePSe3 may arise from the competition between C3 symmetric AF and C1 symmetric FM spin fluctuations around TN, in place of a conventional second-order AF phase transition. This article reports a carbon fiber–reinforced plastic Kagome composite honeycomb sandwich structure reinforced with polymethacrylimide (PMI) foam (PKCSS). Low‐velocity impact performances on the node, rib, and two cell centers of the PKCSS were experimentally compared with those on a composite Kagome honeycomb sandwich (CKHS), and the failure mechanism of the PKCSS was investigated. The impact process was analyzed through an explicit numerical analysis using ABAQUS. A three‐dimensional Hashin failure criterion was introduced using the VUMAT subroutine. Results confirmed that the PKCSS exhibits higher impact and specific loads than the CKHS, with the maximum improvements of 69.7% and 39.5%, respectively, under 50‐J impact energy. As an uncrushable material, the PMI foam provides strong impact resistance during its plateau stage. This technology of cell filling can be used to fabricate lightweight all‐composite honeycomb sandwiches for potential use in ultrahigh engineering applications. Icosahedral B12 serves as a fundamental building block for a variety of boron allotropes and plays a crucial role in enhancing the stability of fullerene-like boron nanoclusters. However, progress in the development of two-dimensional (2D) functional assemblies made from icosahedral B12 has been limited. In this context, we propose a 2D semiconducting boron allotrope (h-B12) using icosahedral B12 as a building block. This structure features a stable honeycomb lattice, with its unit cell comprising two mirror-symmetric icosahedral B12 clusters. The results of first-principles calculations indicate that the band structure exhibits Dirac cones and a relatively high group velocity, similar to graphene. Additionally, it is found to be a material with a negative Poisson's ratio and a relatively low Young's modulus. Finally, our calculations reveal that the zigzag nanoribbon constructed from h-B12 displays prominent edge states at both edges, indicating that this structure represents a potential topological electronic material. Based on the proposed multi-arc curved edge concave adjustable Poisson's ratio cell, five kinds of sandwich panels with negative Poisson's ratio (NPR) were constructed by changing the in-plane thickness of cells: homogeneous, positive gradient, negative gradient, symmetrical positive gradient, and symmetrical negative gradient. The failure mechanical properties of the sandwich panels under the action of local impact were numerically studied. The influences of impact speed and gradient arrangement modes on the failure mode of the sandwich panels, the punch contact force (PCF) and the energy absorption effect (EAE) were investigated. It is found that the failure behavior of sandwich panels is different under different impact speeds. At the same impact speed, the thickness distribution pattern of the sandwich panel core layer will significantly affect the shock resistance of the panel. The study shows that the EAE of sandwich panels can be effectively enhanced by introducing gradient design method, and the sandwich panels with negative gradient arrangement show the best energy absorption effect. The bandgap properties of elastic metamaterials can be efficiently utilized to tailor the propagation characteristics of elastic and acoustic waves, which have promising applications in noise and vibration reduction and isolation. In this paper, an elastic metamaterial with a multilayered honeycomb structure (EMHS) is proposed to enlarge the bandgaps in the low-frequency range and its bandgap properties are analyzed. To meet the requirement of the lightweight design, an optimization model for maximizing the total relative bandgap width with a mass constraint is established. A novel optimization approach combining the Kriging surrogate model with the genetic algorithm (GA) is proposed to reduce the huge computational cost of the corresponding optimization problem. In the Kriging-GA approach, a high-precision Kriging-based surrogate model with addition of supplementary points is constructed to predict the bandgap objective function value, and the GA is employed to search for the optimal parameters. The performance of the proposed Kriging-GA approach is investigated by numerical examples, and the results are compared with those obtained by the commonly used FEM-GA method. The results show that the proposed Kriging-GA approach is highly efficient for the design optimization of the EMHS and can remarkably reduce the computational cost of the considered optimization problem, which has promising prospects in a wide range of engineering applications. To comply with the trend in the development of engineering materials towards lightweight, high strength, eco-friendly, sustainable, and multi-functional, a three-dimensional braided integrated composite honeycomb is designed. The effects of geometrical parameters particularly joint wall lengths on the in-plane mechanical behavior of the honeycombs were investigated. The results show that the in-plane mechanical properties are related to the number of cell walls, and the angle between the cell wall and the loading direction. Increasing the number of cell rows to double and triple at similar areal density lead to an improvement of the maximum load up to 2.5, and 3.8 times, respectively. Similarly, the total absorbed strain energy increased up to 2.6 and 5.9 times, respectively. The displacement at the maximum load is increased by 1.6 and 2.7 times as a result of increasing the cell row number. The total absorbed strain energy increased to 1.7 and 1.3 times, respectively. The failure angle of the 3D braided composite honeycomb is about 4°–7°. This investigation presents the geometrical factors of a 3D braided composite honeycomb can be further designed and optimized, but it also provides a reference for the development and design of a new composite honeycomb. Stereolithography has been used to create ceramic parts with complex geometry that is difficult to achieve with conventional fabrication techniques. This study used stereolithography to print silica honeycomb structures with a commercial Formlabs Form2 printer. The printed samples were sintered at different temperatures, and the print shape was retained up to 1300°C, but significant distortion from partial melting occurred at 1400°C. Higher sintering temperatures lead to more shrinkage, but it is non‐uniform among directions, with the open cell plane shrinking more than the dense plane of the sample. As expected, the density of samples also increases with the sintering temperature. At higher sintering temperatures, there is an increase in cristobalite and a decrease in quartz, tridymite, and amorphous silica. Regarding mechanical properties, the out‐of‐plane compressive strength is approximately one order of magnitude higher than the in‐plane compressive strength. When compressed along the out‐of‐plane direction, the samples sintered at lower temperatures surprisingly exhibit higher strength, which is explained by the micro‐cracking mechanism. In the field of lightweight structures, foldcore sandwich structure is regarded as a promising replacement for conventional honeycomb sandwich structure. In this study, a new M-type glass fiber foldcore structure was fabricated by hot-pressing molding technology, and the effects of various factors on the low-velocity impact characteristics were investigated. In addition, a 3 D progressive damage numerical model matching the experimental results was established. The results showed that the impact energy exerted a certain influence on the response characteristics of the sandwich structure, but did not change the development trend of the load curve. The sandwich panel was able to achieve the overall load-carrying potential for the impactor whose size was longer than the foldcore span (25 mm). In addition, as the sharpness of the impactor increased, the damage range of the sandwich panel became concentrated and the load-bearing capacity gradually decreased. As revealed by the findings, the maximum load and specific energy absorption of laminated sandwich panels were improved by 150 and 40% respectively compared to single sandwich panel at base position. Therefore, it is beneficial to appropriately reduce the core span and increase the number of laminations to improve impact resistance of foldcore sandwich in practical applications. The honeycomb sandwich panel presents a highly promising solution for enhancing ballistic behavior owing to its excellent strength-to-weight ratio and impact resistance. This study focuses on investigating the shock mitigation properties of honeycomb sandwich panels through experimentation and numerical simulation of high-velocity impact tests. Single-scale and double-scale hierarchical honeycomb cores are manufactured using selective laser melting with AlSi10Mg powder, combined with a pair of stainless steel (SS 316) sheets. High-velocity impact experiments were conducted within a velocity ranging from 100 to 270 m/s to examine the effects of different cores and projectile nose shapes on the dynamic response of the panels. Numerical simulations using ABAQUS/Explicit software were performed and validated against the experimental results. The sandwich panel with a double-scale hierarchical honeycomb core exhibited 7.8% and 6.1% more energy absorption compared to the single-scale hierarchical honeycomb core against conical and hemispherical nose projectiles, respectively. Additionally, the ballistic limit for the hemispherical projectile was found to be 8.9% higher than the conical-nose projectile under the same impact velocity and panel thickness. Moreover, an increase in panel thickness from 12 mm to 25 mm prompted a significant improvement of approximately 39% in specific energy absorption and a 44% increase in ballistic limit velocity. These findings highlight the considerable potential of single-scale and double-scale hierarchical honeycomb sandwich panels for the development of threat-resistant structures in critical dynamic loading applications. The flatwise compression and mechanical response of gradient-tandem Nomex honeycomb sandwich panels were investigated by quasi-static compression tests. Finite element models of the gradient-tandem Nomex honeycomb sandwich panels were established to evaluate the effects of layer sequences, separator materials, and layer heights on the mechanical properties through parametric studies. The different assembly of honeycomb sequence and separator material affected the deformation sequence and peak stress of the sandwich panels. Under quasi-static compression, the response curves are smoother when the appropriate separator material and assembly sequence are chosen. Meanwhile, the peak stresses are effectively reduced. The failure behavior and load-carrying capacity of Nomex honeycomb sandwich panels under three-point bending are experimentally and numerically studied. The failure modes observed in experiments are core shear failure and face-sheet/core debonding. A detailed model considering Nomex paper and resin coating is built with Abaqus/explicit simulation. The Hill 1948 quadratic anisotropic yield criteria are adopted to describe the plastic behavior of Nomex paper and the principal stress criteria are used for predicting the failure of resin coating. The effectiveness of the proposed meso-scale model is validated by comparing the experimental and the numerical results. The effects of geometric parameters on the bending behaviors are discussed in detail. It is shown that the ultimate force and bending stiffness of Nomex honeycomb sandwich panels is significantly influenced by the core orientation, resin thickness and cell size. Composite materials, particularly honeycomb composites, are widely utilized in various industries, including aerospace, due to their high energy absorption against the impact and exceptional strength-to-weight ratio. This study aims to leverage the plastic and elastic properties of these materials to develop a simplified numerical model that incorporates orthotropic properties for core modeling. By doing so, the need for detailed honeycomb structure modeling is eliminated, resulting in reduced computational costs and time. A comprehensive three-dimensional finite element model, accounting for structural intricacies, is presented based on experimental data from a reputable source (isotropic model) and its equivalent finite element model (orthotropic model). The model is validated by the experimental results, demonstrating good agreement. The study also investigates parameters such as energy absorption, the internal energy of the core and faces, maximum displacement, and maximum contact force under low-velocity impact scenarios with spherical and cylindrical projectiles. These findings highlight the effectiveness of the orthotropic model, particularly in showcasing greater energy absorption in the core of the sandwich panel when subjected to a cylindrical impactor. Reduced order models facilitate initial design space investigations and enable assessing the benefits of compliant structures utilized for shape adaptability. This work presents a simple model to determine the flexural rigidity of a beam-like, multistable metastructure used as a spar in a hybrid spanwise morphing wing. The model considers the more complex metabeam as a homogeneous beam described by Euler-Bernoulli beam theory with an equivalent flexural rigidity. The analytical model's validity is established by comparing the obtained static and dynamic responses to finite element simulations. A closed-form expression of the flexural rigidity is then given, drawing from the multistable honeycomb’s material properties and the metabeam’s geometry. The present research efforts are directed toward investigating dimensional stability, focusing on bio‐inspired periodic honeycomb lattice structures within carbon fiber reinforced glycol‐modified poly ethylene terephthalate (PETG) composites. These samples are fabricated using extrusion‐based 3D printing, with topological parameters such as shell thickness (ST), unit cell type (UCT), wall thickness (WT), unit cell orientation (UCO), skewing angle (SA), and unit cell size (UCS) being manipulated across three different levels. The experimental findings indicate that achieving the lowest dimensional length error is attainable under specific conditions, including a smaller ST of 0.5 mm, a square UCT, a WT of 0.5 mm, a UCO of 90°, a SA of 0°, and a UCS of 4 mm. Analyzing the results with ANOVA reveals that UCT (28.82%) and WT (18.73%) exert the most significant influence on the dimensional stability response. The regression model closely aligns with experimental outcomes, with an error percentage of 3%, rendering it suitable for large‐scale customization. Under the optimized topological parameters, carbon fiber‐reinforced PETG latticed composites exhibited a dimensional length error of 0.292 mm and a compressive strength of 21.56 MPa. Fractography analysis revealed a brittle mode of fracture across all samples, indicating their stiffness and strength, especially when compared to samples with lower wall thickness. These findings suggest that the designed carbon fiber‐reinforced PETG latticed composite material holds potential for use in minor surgical orthotic and prosthetic applications. The disposal of plastic foam, mostly composed of polystyrene, poses significant environmental challenges due to its high popularity, slow degradation, and low cost. To address this problem, recycling polystyrene foam waste (PF) has emerged as a promising solution to reduce plastic pollution. This paper presents a novel approach to mass‐produce highly ordered, porous honeycomb‐patterned film (hc‐film) using wasted PF as the raw material. The hc‐film is produced using an improved phase separation (IPS) method that utilizes methanol as a suitable pore inducer and template droplet stabilizer. Methanol provides the hc‐film with customizable features such as pore ordering, size, and separation. The freestanding hc‐film, achieved by adopting a water‐soluble polystyrene sulfonate as a scarified layer, can be transferred and utilized as a flexible mold to pattern various solid substrates with complicated surface morphologies using the pre‐impregnated technique. Two-dimensional black phosphorus (2D BP) has attracted significant research interest in the field of biomedical applications due to its unique characteristics, including high biocompatibility, impressive drug-loading efficiency, phototherapeutic ability, and minimal side effects. However, its puckered honeycomb lattice structure with lone-pair electrons of BP leads to higher sensitivity and chemical reactivity towards H2O and O2 molecules, resulting in the degradation of the structure with physical and chemical changes. In our study, we synthesize polyethylene glycol (PEG) and glutathione-stabilized doxorubicin drug-assembled Au nanoparticle (Au-GSH-DOX)-functionalized BP nanosheets (BP-PEG@Au-GSH-DOX) with improved degradation stability, biocompatibility, and tumor-targeting ability. Transmission electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and Raman spectroscopy indicate the nanoscale degradation behavior of synthesized nanoconjugates in three different environmental exposure conditions, and the results demonstrate the remarkable nanoscale stability of BP-PEG@Au-GSH-DOX against the degradation of BP, which provides significant interest in employing 2D BP-based nanotherapeutic agents for tumor-targeted cancer phototherapy. A non-pneumatic tire (NPT) overcomes the shortcomings of a traditional pneumatic tire such as wear, punctures and blowouts. In this respect, it shows great potential in improving driving safety, and has received great attention in recent years. In this paper, a carbon fiber-reinforced polyethylene terephthalate (PET/CF) honeycomb is proposed as a support structure for NPTs, which can be easily prepared using 3D printing technology. The experimental results showed that the PET/CF has high strength and modulus and provides excellent mechanical properties. Then, a finite element (FE) model was established to predict the compression performance of auxetic honeycombs. Good agreement was achieved between the experimental data and FE analysis. The influence of the cell parameters on the compressive performance of the support structure were further analyzed. Both the wall thickness and the vertically inclined angle could modulate the mechanical performance of the NPT. Finally, the application of vertical force is used to analyze the static load of the structure. The PET/CF honeycomb as the support structure of the NPT showed outstanding bearing capacity and stiffness in contrast with elastomer counterparts. Consequently, this study broadens the material selection for NPTs and proposes a strategy for manufacturing a prototype, which provides a reference for the design and development of non-pneumatic tires. The dynamic mechanical behavior and cushioning performance of honeycomb sandwich panels, which are extensively employed in product cushioning packaging due to their exceptional energy absorption capabilities, were examined using a combination of experimental and numerical methods. Several factors, such as maximum acceleration–static stress, cushioning coefficient–static stress, and other curves, were analyzed under various impact conditions. The simulated stress–strain, deformation modes, cushioning coefficients, and other parameters demonstrate consistency with the experimental results. The acceleration, maximum compression, and cushioning coefficient obtained from the experiment and simulation calculation were 30.68 g, 15.44 mm, and 2.65, and 31.96 g, 14.91 mm, and 2.79, respectively. The results indicate that all error values were less than 5%, confirming the precision and reliability of the model. Furthermore, the model was utilized to simulate and predict the cushioning performance of honeycomb sandwich panels with different cell structures and paper thicknesses. In this work, we examine the topological phases of the spring-mass lattices when the spatial inversion symmetry of the system is broken and prove the existence of edge modes when two lattices with different topological phases are glued together. In particular, for the one-dimensional lattice consisting of an infinite array of masses connected by springs, we show that the Zak phase of the lattice is quantized, only taking the value 0 or π. We also prove the existence of an edge mode when two semi-infinite lattices with distinct Zak phases are connected. For the two-dimensional honeycomb lattice, we characterize the valley Chern numbers of the lattice when the masses on the lattice vertices are uneven. Composites of honeycomb-structured high-chromium cast iron matrix reinforced with zirconia-toughened alumina particles (ZTAP) were successfully fabricated by a non-pressure infiltration casting process. Different preform hole patterns were designed in this study, following the principle of keeping the same area of the honeycomb holes with the same outline size. The hardness and modulus continuously increased from the high-chromium cast iron matrix through the interfacial layer to the ZTA ceramic particle. The residual thermal stress in the samples with the circle hole pattern was the lowest at 389.7 ± 20.2 MPa. Background: Androgenetic alopecia, the most common cause of non-scarring hair loss, is a consequence of the gradual miniaturization of the hair follicles. In the majority of male androgenetic alopecia cases, a patient's history and clinical evaluation may be sufficient to establish the diagnosis, while for women, they should be supplemented with trichoscopy. Methods: The PubMed and Scopus databases were used to collate published studies and to analyze the most typical trichoscopic findings in patients diagnosed with androgenetic alopecia. A total of 34 articles were retrieved after exclusion. Results: The most common features identified using trichoscopy included hair diameter variability (94.07% of patients), vellus hairs (66.45%) and the peripilar sign (43.27%). Others, such as the honeycomb pattern, yellow and white dots, were less relevant. Conclusions: We concluded that hair diameter variability, vellus hairs and the peripilar sign represented valuable indicators for the diagnosis of androgenetic alopecia. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The primary reason for the decrease in power output from the PV array is partial shading. During partial shading conditions (PSCs) PV modules experience a mismatch in current and voltage generated. Also, the power voltage (P–V) characteristics of the PV array possess multiple peaks under PSCs. To mitigate the effects caused by PSCs, the configuration of the PV array is the finest solution. This paper proposes a novel Reduced Cross Tied (RCT) configuration to enhance maximum power output from a symmetrical PV array under PSCs. The RCT configuration has fewer cross-ties compared to the TCT configuration and is applicable to a square array of any size. The proposed RCT configuration along with conventional configurations such as Total Cross Tied (TCT), Series–Parallel, Bridge-Link, and Honey-Comb are validated in simulation and hardware for 7 × 7 and 8 × 8 symmetrical PV arrays under Short and Narrow (SN), Short and Wide (SW), Long and Narrow (LN) and Long and Wide (LW) shading patterns. A comparative analysis is done between the proposed configuration and conventional configurations in terms of mismatch loss (ML), fill factor, efficiency (η ), Wiring Loss, and Global Maximum PowerPoint (GMPP). The proposed RCT configuration is able to achieve GMPP equal to the TCT configuration under the LN shading pattern and on par with the TCT configuration under SN, SW, and LW shading patterns. RCT-configured PV array possesses a minimum reduction of 25% in wiring loss for any array size. A theoretical model has been developed to express the longitudinal and transverse piezoelectric effects in ferro/piezoelectrets. This model is an extension of the classic model based on layer-dielectric structures that focuses on the longitudinal piezoelectric effect. The improved model reveals that the relation between the longitudinal piezoelectric d33 coefficient and the transverse piezoelectric d31 coefficient is associated with Poisson's ratio μ13 (or μ31) and Young's moduli Y1 and Y3. The polarity of the two coefficients is opposite for materials with a positive Poisson's ratio as normally observed in conventional piezoelectric materials, and the same for materials with a negative Poisson's ratio, i.e., auxetic materials. The experimental results available in the literature and obtained from ferroelectret metamaterials with a honeycomb cross-sectional structure and two-dimensional (2D) symmetric structure, called 2D ferroelectret metamaterials, designed and prepared in this study reasonably agree with theoretical predictions. The membrane-type structure that can achieve excellent sound insulation characteristics under lightweight conditions is widely concerned, but it generally involves a small mass block attached to a thin membrane. Although this kind of design can obtain better acoustic insulation performance, the mass block will cause installation and manufacturing issues in industrial applications. This paper presents a multilayer honeycomb membrane-type acoustic metamaterial with an interlayer structure. Similar to the mass block, the interlayer structure makes less sound energy transmitted by varying the eigenmode characteristics of the membrane. Considering the integrated design of the interlayer structure, the issues of installation and manufacturing are solved and the sound transmission loss is enhanced on the fixed overall dimension and small additional mass. The results indicate that the design of interlayer structures can break the bottleneck of ultrathin and lightweight requirements. Meanwhile, the symmetry of interlayer position can lead to the shift in transmission loss valley to a higher frequency, achieving high sound insulation in a wide frequency range. Due to their high load-bearing capacity and excellent energy dissipation properties, metal honeycomb lightweight sandwich panels are commonly utilized as highly efficient weight-saving components in the automotive, aerospace, and military industries. Especially the auxetic honeycomb sandwich panels have higher yield strength, more robust shear modulus, fracture toughness, less fatigue expansion, and higher vibration and energy absorption. In this paper, the ballistic resistance and energy absorption mechanisms of a novel re-entrant auxetic honeycomb (RSH) sandwich panel are investigated. The ballistic limits and energy absorption of the re-entrant star-shaped honeycomb (RSH), star-shaped honeycomb (SSH), and re-entrant star-shaped honeycomb (RH) sandwich panels are compared and analyzed, as well as the deformation mechanism during projectile penetration. The results show that the RSH sandwich panel has the best in-plane ballistic performance among the three types of honeycomb sandwich panels. For the same relative density, the ballistic limit of the RSH sandwich panel is 17.4% and 7.1% higher than that of the SSH and RH sandwich panels respectively. In addition, the effects of different design parameters on the ballistic resistance of RSH sandwich panels are investigated by changing the panel thickness, the relative density of the core layer, the cell angle and the cell size. It can be concluded that increasing the thickness of the face sheet is more effective in improving the ballistic limit (perforation energy) of the RSH with a thinner core layer. However, increasing the relative density of the core layer is more effective in enhancing the ballistic limit (perforation energy) for thicker core layers. This study explores the design and performance of axisymmetric hexachiral honeycombs, utilizing the hexachiral honeycomb framework and axisymmetric design method. Four axisymmetric hexachiral honeycombs with distinct arrangements were developed: left–right symmetry hexachiral honeycomb (LSHH), up–down symmetry hexachiral honeycomb (USHH), central symmetry hexachiral honeycomb (CSHH), and subunits symmetry hexachiral honeycomb (SSHH). The deformation patterns and compression behaviors of these honeycombs were comprehensively examined through experimental and numerical simulations, and comparisons were made with a non-symmetric hexachiral honeycomb (NHH). The results indicate that symmetrically designed honeycombs exhibit a larger mean plateau stress than the asymmetrically designed the NHH during low-velocity impacts. The study further discusses deformation patterns, specific energy absorption, and the negative Poisson's ratio effect across the five honeycombs under different parameters. Notably, symmetrically designed honeycombs demonstrate superior specific energy absorption, and the negative Poisson's ratio effect becomes evident at an impact velocity of 10 m/s. However, the advantages of axisymmetric honeycombs diminish at higher impact velocities of 50 m/s and 100 m/s. The Poisson's ratio effects of symmetric honeycombs weaken with an increase in the circular ligament r of the honeycomb. We consider four common defects that appear in an infinite single-layer graphene lattice, i.e. single vacancy V 1 (5 − 9) , Stone-Wales SW (55 − 77) , and double vacancies V 2 (5 − 8 − 5) and V 2 (555 − 777). Investigating the honeycomb pattern of the graphene, we make use of the concept of shortest closed paths (periodic orbits) in the underlying topological structure. A simple in-situ method was proposed to synthesize surface coating of SiC nanowhiskers on cordierite honeycombs by aluminothermic, silicothermic, and carbothermic reduction reactions. The surface coating of SiC nanowhiskers was synthesized by controlling the partial pressure of SiO gas on the surface of honeycombs, based on the pore-forming process using aluminium(Al) agent. Increasing the porosity of the honeycombs provided aisles to volatilize SiO gas, and the growth of SiC nanowhiskers changed from inside the honeycomb wall to on the honeycomb surface. SEM and TEM observations revealed that the relatively high porosity (≥45%) and sintering temperature (1250–1300 °C) were necessary for obtaining surface coating of SiC nanowhiskers, and the nanowhisker-coating having the smooth morphology and a thickness of ∼150 µm was obtained at 1250 °C. Compared with cordierite honeycombs without SiC nanowhiskers, SiC nanowhiskers inside the honeycomb walls could improve the compressive strength and thermal conductivity with increasing rates of 121% and 123%, respectively, and the surface coating of SiC nanowhiskers increased the specific surface area of the honeycombs by 241 times. SiC honeycomb ceramics were prepared by recrystallization sintering using α-SiC powders of different particle sizes (0.5, 25, 38, and 45 µm) as raw materials. The effects of the particle gradation on the micro-morphology, pore size distribution, and leading physical properties of the recrystallized silicon carbide (R-SiC) were investigated. The results show that: (1)after sintering at 2 200 °C for 1 h, compared with the honeycomb ceramics with only 25 and 0.5 µm SiC, those with the gradual introduction of 38 and 45 |jm SiC have similar sintered density, larger average sintered neck area between R-SiC coarse particles, higher median aperture size, more concentrated pore size distribution, and fist increased and then declined cold compressive strength; (2) the mechanical properties of R-SiC honeycomb ceramics are the optimal when the particle gradation is 25, 0.5, and 38 |jm, with the cold compressive strength, bulk density, and apparent porosity of 18.0 MPa, 1.81 g · cm-3, and 40.8% respectively. Sandwich structures are often used as protective structures on ships. To further improve the energy-absorbing characteristics of traditional honeycomb sandwich structures, an energy-absorbing mechanism is proposed based on the gradient folding deformation of lotus root nodes and a leafy stem vein homogenizing load mechanism. A honeycomb sandwich structure is then designed that combines lotus root nodes and leafy stem veins. Four types of peak-nest structures, traditional cellular structure (TCS), lotus root honeycomb structure (LRHS), leaf vein honeycomb structure (LVHS), and lotus root vein combined honeycomb structure (LRVHS), were prepared using 3D printing technology. The deformation modes and energy absorption characteristics of the four honeycomb structures under quasistatic action were investigated using a combination of experimental and simulation methods. It was found that the coupling design improved the energy absorption in the structural platform region of the LRHS by 51.4% compared to that of the TCS due to its mechanical mechanism of helical twisting and deformation. The leaf vein design was found to enhance the peak stress of the structure, resulting in a 4.84% increase in the peak stress of the LVHS compared to that of the TCS. The effects of the number, thickness, and position of the leaf vein plates on the honeycomb structure were further explored. The greatest structural SEA effect of 1.28 J/g was observed when the number of leaf vein plates was four. The highest SEA of 1.36 J/g was achieved with a leaf vein plate thickness of 0.6 mm, representing a 7.3% improvement compared to that of the 0.2 mm thickness. In this study, the pore structure of carboxymethyl chitosan aerogel (CCSA) was modulated by adjusting the concentration of carboxymethyl chitosan (CCS) in combination with targeted freezing. The hierarchically porous structures were obtained by the freeze-drying process. The results show that the CCSAs prepared by directional freezing have excellent broadband acoustic absorption properties, and also expand the scope of application of CCSAs in practical applications due to the excellent thermal and mechanical properties of the prepared CCSAs. Since the CCSAs prepared by directional freezing still has excellent antimicrobial properties, it also provides a new strategy for aerogels with acoustic properties to be used in medical industry applications. A honeycomb structure is a sandwich structure widely used in fuselage, among which the hexagonal honeycomb core is the most widely used. The energy absorption characteristics and impedance ability of the structure are the main reasons that directly affect the energy absorption characteristics of the honeycomb sandwich structure. Therefore, it is necessary to study the out-of-plane mechanical properties of the composite honeycomb sandwich structure. Based on the numerical simulation results, the energy absorption characteristics of several composite honeycomb sandwich structures are verified by drop hammer impact experiments. The research shows that the transient energy absorption characteristics of the composite honeycomb sandwich structure are mainly related to the cell size of the honeycomb structure. The smaller the size of the front cell, the stronger the overall impact resistance; the strength of the composite honeycomb sandwich structure exceeds that of 7075 aluminum alloy-NOMEX and carbon fiber-NOMEX honeycomb sandwich structures. In this paper, the energy absorption characteristics of composite honeycomb sandwich structures under different impact energy are compared and studied. The displacement, force and energy curves of energy absorption characteristics related to time variables are analyzed. The difference in protective performance between the composite honeycomb sandwich structure and existing airframe structure is compared and studied. The optimal structural design parameters of composite honeycomb sandwich under low-speed impact of drop hammer are obtained. The maximum energy absorption per unit volume of the designed honeycomb sandwich structure is 171.7% and 229.8% higher than that of the NOMEX-AL and NOMEX-C structures. The 6.4 mm and 3 mm cell sizes show good characteristics in high-speed buffering and crashworthiness. The composite honeycomb sandwich airframe structure can improve the anti-damage performance of the UAV airframe structure, ensure the same thickness and lightweight conditions as the existing honeycomb sandwich airframe structure, and improve the single-core bearing mode of the existing airframe structure. Sharp-bending waveguide is a key element for ultra-compact and densely integrated photonic devices, which is promising to enlarge the capability of modern information processing in a single chip. Topological photonics manifest the nature of robust propagation against sharp bending and such robustness has been experimentally demonstrated in topological integrated interfaces. It is important to quantify the bending loss of topological interface but has remained exclusive. In this work, we report on the characterization of sharp-bending robustness in the integrated topological interface of valley photonic crystals (VPCs) by experimentally quantifying the ultralow bending loss. The VPCs are designed on a standard silicon-on-insulator platform with the inversion-symmetry broken in honeycomb lattice, and four types of topological interfaces can be constructed by two topologically-distinct VPCs. As one of the representative cases, zigzag-AA interface is applied to demonstrate the robust propagation along sharp bending. In experiment, we fabricate a series of VPC interfaces with different turn number and the same transmission distance, which perform the ultralow bending loss less than 0.02 dB per 120-deg turning. Furthermore, we experimentally characterize the propagation loss in the integrated interfaces. Our approach not only shows the ability of VPC topological interfaces to suppress backscattering stemming from sharp bending, but also paves the way for topological nanophotonic dense integration. In response to the shortcomings of concentrated stress, difficult forming, and short service life of commonly used honeycomb ceramic thermal storage materials with square lattice holes, the author has developed a new type of low stress honeycomb ceramic thermal storage material by studying the structure, forming mold, and extrusion forming material of the thermal storage body. The author introduced the changes in specific surface area and porosity of heat storage materials with different geometric structures, and analyzed and compared the structural characteristics of two types of heat storage materials, namely heat storage balls and honeycomb bodies, under the premise of equal heat storage capacity. The trajectory of air-flow in the heat storage chamber was simulated using CFD software, and the pressure loss and centerline velocity changes of different shapes of honeycomb were analyzed. The flow characteristics, pressure distribution, and heat transfer performance of gas inside different shapes of honeycomb were calculated. The experimental results showed that the closer to the circular shape, the smaller the pressure loss of the centerline. The larger the equivalent diameter, the smaller the resistance along the path. From the perspective of cold pressure loss alone, regular quadrilateral holes and regular circular holes are the best choices for the shape of honeycomb openings. The centerline velocity of the equilateral triangle hole is the largest, indicating that the smaller the equivalent diameter is, the greater the average velocity at the outlet is. The resistance along the path of the round hole is the smallest, the regular quadrilateral hole is slightly larger, and the pressure loss of the equilateral triangle hole is the largest, which exceeds the round hole by nearly 1/3. Taking into account factors such as heat storage, specific surface area, flow characteristics, and heat transfer characteristics, quadrilateral honeycomb cells are the best choice.
