Purpose: This study assessed the reliability and load–velocity profiles of 3 different landmine-punch-throw variations (seated without trunk rotation, seated with trunk rotation, and standing whole body) with different loads (20, 22.5, and 25.0 kg), all with the dominant hand and nondominant hand. Methods: In a quasi-randomized order, 14 boxers (24.1 [4.3] y, 72.6 [10.1] kg) performed 3 repetitions of each variation with their dominant hand and their nondominant hand, with maximal effort and 3 minutes of interset rest. Peak velocity was measured via the GymAware Power Tool (Kinetic Performance Technologies). The interclass correlation coefficients and their 95% CIs were used to determine the intrasession reliability of each variation × load × hand combination. Additionally, a 2 (hand) × 3 (variation) repeated-measures analysis of variance assessed the load–velocity profile slope, and a 3 (variation) × 2 (hand) × 3 (load) repeated-measures analysis of variance assessed the peak velocity of each variation. Results: Most variations were highly reliable (intraclass correlation coefficient >.91), with the nondominant hand being as reliable or more reliable than the dominant hand. Very strong linear relationships were observed for the group average for each variation (R2 ≥.96). However, there was no variation × hand interaction for the slope, and there was no main effect for variation or hand. Additionally, there was no interaction for the peak velocity, but there were main effects for variation, hand, and load (P <.01). Conclusion: Each variation was reliable and can be used to create upper-body ballistic unilateral load–velocity profiles. Knowledge of how the different types of sedentary behaviors (SB) are associated with functional limitations can guide professionals who work with older adults on better recommendations about the amount of daily time that should be encouraged in each type of SB. The objective was to estimate the associations between two SB typologies (SB television [TV] and SB computer/internet) and the presence of handgrip strength, lower limb strength, gait speed, and balance limitations in Brazilian community-dwelling older adults. This is a cross-sectional study with 1,298 community-dwelling older adults (≥60 years). SB was assessed by self-reporting daily time spent watching TV or using computer/internet (categorized into <2, 3–4, and ≥5 hr/day). Outcomes were handgrip strength, lower limb strength, gait speed, and balance limitations considering referenced cutoff points. Older adults in SB TV ≥5 hr/day had 1.75 (95% confidence interval [CI] [1.07, 2.86]) and 1.88 (95% CI [1.02, 3.46]) times more chances of handgrip strength and gait speed limitations, respectively. On the other hand, those who spent 3–4 and ≥5 hr/day in SB computer/internet had 0.45 (95% CI [0.20, 0.99]) and 0.37 (95% CI [0.15, 0.93]) had less chances of lower limb strength and balance limitations, respectively. The increase in repetitive strain injuries to the hand underscores the need for assessing and preventing musculoskeletal overuse associated with hand-intensive tasks. This study investigates the risk of overload injuries in soft tissue structures of the hand by analyzing the pressure distribution and location of peak pressure in the hand during snap-fit connection assembly in the automotive industry. The influence of the surface geometry of automotive trim components the pressure distribution and force imparted during strikes with the palm and the fist are investigated in a cohort of 30 subjects with extensive experience installing trim parts with snap-fit connections. Using the palm or fist (ulnar hand side) of the dominant hand, the subjects struck a simulation device with a flat, rounded, or edged surface geometry. The average peak force applied was 600 N (±122 N), nearly 3 times the force required to overcome the technical resistance of the snap-fit connector (220 N). Fist strikes exerted a 40% higher mean peak pressure and 18% higher mean pressure than did palm strikes. The pressure distribution in the region of the thenar eminence and soft tissue of the ulnar side of the hand did not differ between fist strikes on flat and edged surfaces. Considering the delicate anatomy of the hand, especially the hypothenar muscles on the ulnar side, assembling connection claps using the fist instead of the palm may prevent repetitive blunt trauma to the sensitive blood vessels and nerves in the palm. Thermoregulation is impaired in individuals with a spinal cord lesion (SCI), affecting sweat capacity, heat loss, and core temperature. This can be particularly problematic for athletes with SCI who exercise in hot and humid conditions, like those during the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. Heat acclimation can support optimal preparation for exercise in such challenging environments, but evidence is limited in endurance athletes with SCI. We evaluated whether seven consecutive days of exercise in the heat would result in heat acclimation. Five elite para-cycling athletes with SCI participated (two females, three males, median (Q1-Q3) 35 (31–51) years, four with paraplegia and one with tetraplegia). All tests and training sessions were performed in a heat chamber (30°C and 75% relative humidity). A time-to-exhaustion test was performed on day 1 (pretest) and day 7 (posttest). On days 2–6, athletes trained daily for one hour at 50–60% of individual peak power (PPeak). Comparing pretest and posttest, all athletes increased their body mass loss (p=0.04), sweat rate (p=0.04), and time to exhaustion (p=0.04). Effects varied between athletes for core temperature and heart rate. Purpose: Obesity is a primary risk factor for knee osteoarthritis (OA). Prebiotics enhance beneficial gut microbes and can reduce body fat and inflammation. Our objective was to examine if a 6-month prebiotic intervention improved physical function in adults with knee osteoarthritis and obesity. We also measured knee pain, body composition, quality of life, gut microbiota, inflammatory markers, and serum metabolomics. Methods: Adults (n = 54, mostly women) with co-morbid obesity (BMI > 30 kg/m2) and unilateral/bilateral knee OA were randomly assigned to prebiotic (oligofructose-enriched inulin; 16 g/day; n = 31) or isocaloric placebo (maltodextrin; n = 21) for 6 months. Performance based-tests, knee pain, quality of life, serum metabolomics and inflammatory markers, and fecal microbiota and short-chain fatty acids were assessed. Results: Significant between group differences were detected for the change in timed-up-and-go test, 40 m fast paced walk test, and hand grip strength test from baseline that favored prebiotic over placebo. Prebiotic also reduced trunk fat mass (kg) at 6 months and trunk fat (%) at 3 months compared to placebo. There was a trend (p = 0.059) for reduced knee pain at 6 months with prebiotic versus placebo. In gut microbiota analysis, a total of 37 amplicon sequence variants differed between groups. Bifidobacterium abundance was positively correlated with distance walked in the 6-min walk test and hand grip strength. At 6 months, there was a significant separation of serum metabolites between groups with upregulation of phenylalanine and tyrosine metabolism with prebiotic. Conclusion: Prebiotics may hold promise for conservative management of knee osteoarthritis in adults with obesity and larger trials are warranted. Objectives. This study aimed to investigate the consistency between results of the American Conference for Governmental Occupational Hygienists (ACGIH) threshold limit value (TLV) for hand activity and proposed action levels of objective measurements in risk assessments of work-related musculoskeletal disorders. Methods. Wrist velocities and forearm muscular load were measured for 11 assemblers during one working day. Simultaneously, each assembler's hand activity level (HAL) during three sub-cycles was rated twice on two separate occasions by two experts, using a HAL scale. Arm/hand exertion was also rated by the assemblers themselves using a Borg scale. In total, 66 sub-cycles were assessed and assigned to three exposure categories: A) below ACGIH action limit (AL) (green); B) between AL and TLV (yellow); and C) above TLV (red). The median wrist velocity and the 90th percentile of forearm muscular load obtained from the objective measurements corresponding to the sub-cycles were calculated and assigned to two exposure categories: A) below or C) above the proposed action level. Results. The agreement between ACGIH TLV for hand activity and the proposed action level for wrist velocity was 87%. Conclusions. The hands are the most complex organs of the body for performing various activities. Therefore, it is critical to protect them against dangers. Protective gloves can reduce or prevent injuries, but they can downgrade hand performance in various aspects, including tactile sensitivity, strength, grip force and hand dexterity. In this study, eight protective gloves with different designs and materials were made. The study investigated the influence of the number of layers and several characteristics, e.g., mass per square meter, thickness, bending stiffness and compressibility, on the gloved hand performance regarding protection ability, tactile sensitivity, strength capability and manual dexterity. The results indicated that despite the improving effects of increasing layer thickness, weight, bending energy and compressibility on protection ability, the gloves diminish tactile sensitivity, grip and pinch force, and manual dexterity. Objective: This study aimed to examine the impact of robotic hand rehabilitation on hand function and quality of life in childrenwith cerebral palsy. Design: Children with cerebral palsy aged 7-16 yrs were divided into robotic rehabilitation (n = 9) or conventional rehabilitation (n = 10) groups for hand rehabilitation of 30 sessions. The primary outcomes were the Fugl-Meyer Assessment for Upper Extremity and Box and Block Test. The secondary outcomes were the Manual Ability Classification System, modified Ashworth scale, hand grasp and finger strengths, ABILHAND-Kids, Functional Independence Measure for Children, and PedsQL Quality of Life Inventory-CP Module. Results: In the robotic rehabilitation group, a significant improvement was found in all parameters after treatment (P < 0.05), except for the Functional Independence Measure (P = 0.081). In the conventional rehabilitation group, there was significant improvement after treatment in the modified Ashworth scale, Fugl-Meyer Assessment for Upper Extremity, hand grasp strength, Box and Block Test, ABILHAND-Kids, and PedsQL Quality of Life Inventory-CP Module (P < 0.05). Before and after treatment, all outcome parameters in the groups were similar (P > 0.05). Conclusions: Robotic hand rehabilitation is effective in improving motor function, manual dexterity, spasticity, and quality of life in children with cerebral palsy. To translate the Hand-Use-at-Home questionnaire (HUH), assesses the amount of spontaneous use of the affected hand in children with 18 bimanual activities, into Turkish and examine its validity and reliability on children with neonatal brachial plexus palsy (NBPP) or unilateral cerebral palsy (UCP). The HUH was translated and cross-culturally adapted to Turkish and administered to children with NBPP (n = 25) and UCP (n = 42) between 3 and 10 years. The psychometric analyses included reliability by internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha) and test/retest reliability (intraclass correlation coefficient, ICC) structural validity was evaluated with exploratory factor analysis, and construct validity was investigated by matching the HUH with the Pediatric Outcome Data Collection Instrument Upper Extremity Scale (PODCI) (NBPP only), and Children's Hand-Use Experience Questionnaire (CHEQ) (UCP only). HUH showed excellent test–retest reliability (ICC2,1 = 0.988 Cl (0.977–0.992)), excellent internal consistency (Cronbach's-α = 0.989), and moderate correlation with CHEQ (rs = 0.558) in UCP and high correlation with PODCI Scale (rs = 0.789) in NBPP group. The HUH had low and moderate correlation respectively lesion-extent levels (r=-0.457) in NBPP and 5 Manual Ability Classification System levels (r=-0.688) in the UCP group. The HUH is a valid and reliable tool to assess the amount of spontaneous use of the affected hand in Turkish children with NBPP and UCP. The Hand-Use-at-Home (HUH) questionnaire is a reliable and good valid outcome measure to evaluate the amount of spontaneous use of the affected hand. We suggest the Turkish version of the HUH be used in the Turkish children to indicate small changes in the severity of disorder of children until a normal quality of life is achieved. Most activities of daily living (ADLs) require the use of both upper extremities. However, few assessments exist to assess bimanual performance, especially among adults living with cerebral palsy (CP). The aim of this preliminary study is to assess the interrater reliability and convergent validity of the Assisting Hand Assessment (AHA) scoring grid applied to unstandardized ADLs. For this validation study, nineteen adults living with spastic unilateral CP were videotaped performing seven bimanual ADLs. Three raters assessed the videos independently using the 20-item grid of the AHA. Gwet's AC2 was used to assess interrater reliability. Kendall's Tau-b correlation was used between the observation-based scoring grid and Jebsen-Taylor Hand Function Test (JTHFT) scores to assess convergent validity. Interrater reliability was good (0.84, SD = 0.02). The correlation with the JTHFT was high (τb = −0.74; p < 0.001). The results show the potential of using an observation-based scoring grid with unstandardized ADLs to assess bimanual performance in adults living with CP, but further research on psychometric properties is needed. This method allows for an assessment that is occupation-oriented, ecological, and meaningful. An observation-based scoring grid (Assisting Hand Assessment) can be applied in unstandardized activities of daily living to assess bimanual performance in adults with cerebral palsy. Distal radius fractures with severely osteoporotic bone or articular comminution can provide challenges to fixation with traditional volar locked plating alone. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical, radiographic, and patient reported outcomes of patients undergoing distal radius fixation with volar locked plating and adjunctive dorsal bridge plating. We retrospectively identified 16 patients with distal radius fractures who underwent our preferred surgical technique for fixation. Patients underwent volar locked plate fixation as well as dorsal bridge fixation at time of surgery. Seven patients were indicated for severe articular comminution with volar rim fragmentation (44%), three patients were revised for nonunion after previous volar locked late fixation (19%), and six patients had severely osteoporotic bone with articular comminution (38%). Two patients (13%) sustained AO/OTA 23-A3 distal radius fracture, two patients (13%) had a 23-B3 fracture, two patients (13%) had a 23-C2 fracture and ten patients (63%) had a 23-C3 fracture. The average patient age was 51.8 years ± 20.6. Patients were followed for an average of 12.2±6.3 months. The dorsal bridge plate was removed at an average of 11.1±2.4 weeks. The average post-operative radial inclination was 18.9±2.4°, radial height 12.4 mm ± 2.6 mm, and volar tilt 7.1±1.9°. There were no cases of deep or superficial infection. After dorsal bridge plate removal, patients demonstrated an average wrist extension of 55.3±9.5°, flexion 54.4±12.8°, radial deviation 15.7±3.2°, 25.2±3.9 degrees of ulnar deviation. Distal radius fractures in the setting of severely osteoporotic bone, salvage procedures, articular comminution, volar rim fractures, and revision surgery present uniquely difficult surgical challenges. Congenital or acquired hand differences, including unilateral below-elbow deficiencies, present complex challenges in pediatric rehabilitation. Surgical management and prosthetic provision represent a big challenge to find a good balance for guaranteeing optimal hand function. There is no specific assessment tool for measuring these aspects in the Italian context. The present study investigates the psychometric properties of the ABILHAND-Kids in children with congenital unilateral below-elbow deficiencies and acquired amputation of the upper limb. We measure internal consistency using Cronbach coefficient alpha and the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) for measuring test-retest reliability. Differences in hand function in both children with acquired or congenital diseases were also investigated. Participants to the study were 107 (49 F and 58 M) children, with a mean (SD) age of 8.88 (4.25). For test retest reliability, conducted on a sub-sample of 58 children, the ICC was 0.92, while for internal consistency, the Cronbach coefficient alpha was 0.90. We did not find statistically significant differences in scoring (p = 0.33) in the use (mean 29.25 SD 6.58) or non-use of a prosthetic device (mean 30.74 SD 7.43), while statistically significant differences were found in hand function (p < 0.01) for children who had a congenital impairment (mean 31.87 SD 6.49) and children who had an acquired amputation (mean 27.77 SD 6.60). In conclusion, the ABILHAND-Kids showed good internal consistency and reliability and can capture differences in hand function in children with both congenital and acquired hand disorders. Background/Objectives: There is a need to monitor physical fitness in HIV-diagnosed children and adolescents, and body mass index (BMI) could be an option for this due to its usability for assessing nutritional status and fat mass. The present study aimed to explore the relationship between BMI and physical fitness in HIV-diagnosed children and adolescents. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 86 HIV-diagnosed children and adolescents aged 5–15, with participants from two research protocols (Study I, n = 65; Study II, n = 21). Physical fitness was assessed through body composition (anthropometric measurements and dual energy X-ray absorptiometry), cardiorespiratory fitness (peak oxygen consumption [VO2peak]), muscle strength/endurance (handgrip strength, standing broad jump, and abdominal and modified push-up endurance), and flexibility (sit-to reach test). The relationship between BMI and physical fitness components was analyzed through correlation and simple and multiple linear regression analysis. Results: Eutrophic participants (mean age 11.44 ± 2.20) presented a normal fat mass percentage and overweight participants (mean age 11.50 ± 2.54) presented adequate handgrip strength. The adjusted models could explain 71% of fat-free mass, 57% of fat mass percentage, 70% of bone mineral content, 72% of bone mineral density, and 52% of handgrip strength. Conclusions: Increases in BMI were associated with increases in fat-free mass, fat mass percentage, bone mineral content, bone mineral density, and handgrip strength. Frequent extreme cold events in recent years have brought serious threats to outdoor workers and rescuers. Changes in ambient temperature are associated with altered cardiac autonomic function. The study aims to investigate heart rate variability (HRV) and its relationship to other physiological parameters under extreme cold exposures. Twelve males underwent a 30-min preconditioning phase in a neutral environment followed by a 30-min cold exposure (−5, −10, −15, and −20 °C). Time-domain indexes(meanRR, SDNN, RMSSD, and pNN50), frequency domain indexes [Log(HF), Log(LF), and low frequency/high frequency (LF/HF)], parasympathetic nervous system (PNS), and sympathetic nervous system (SNS) were analysed. Results showed all HRV indexes of four cold exposures were significant. The decrease in temperature was accompanied by progressive PNS activation with SNS retraction. SDNN was the most sensitive HRV index and had good linear relationships with blood pressure, pulse, and hand temperature. The results are significant for formulating safety protection strategies for workers in extremely cold environments. To identify and describe possible ways of experiencing an intervention with hand orthoses in a study group including boys with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) and their parents. To capture the experiences of the persons directly involved as well as their family members. Eight boys with DMD (aged 8–21; median age 17.7) and five of their parents were interviewed immediately post-intervention. Additionally, follow-up interviews were later performed with five boys and three parents. Ten categories of intervention experiences emerged and were allocated to three aspects: "Prerequisites in the treatment situation", "The intervention makes a difference" and "Instilling hope for the future". The requirements for intervention success include co-operation with parents and hand orthoses with a good fit. Maintained or increased joint mobility, reduced pain and improved occupational performance were experienced. The boys and parents perceived that the intervention with hand orthoses could counteract the deterioration of the boys' hands. This instilled hope of preserving occupational performance throughout life. They also considered that a good hand-orthosis fit, appropriate adjustments to daily routines and good co-operation with the people around them were important for the intervention to be and remain successful. Preserving the ability to perform activities with the hands is of paramount importance for boys with Duchenne muscular dystrophy and their parents. Intervention with hand orthoses counteracts deterioration of the hands. Successful treatment with hand orthoses requires that specific prerequisites in the treatment situation are met, that the treatment makes a difference for activity performance and that it instils hope for the future when it comes to performing meaningful activities. Background: This study aimed to assess whether integrating handgrip strength (HGS) into the concept of motoric cognitive risk (MCR) would enhance its predictive validity for incident dementia and all-cause mortality. Methods: A cohort of 5, 899 adults from the Health and Retirement Study underwent assessments of gait speed, subjective cognitive complaints, and HGS were involved. Over a 10-year follow-up, biennial cognitive tests and mortality data were collected. Cox proportional hazard analyses assessed the predictive power of MCR alone and MCR plus HGS for incident dementia and all-cause mortality. Results: Patients with MCR and impaired HGS (MCR-HGS) showed the highest adjusted hazard ratios (AHR) for dementia (2.33; 95% CI, 1.49-3.65) and mortality (1.52; 95% CI, 1.07-2.17). Even patients with MCR and normal HGS (MCR-non-HGS) experienced a 1.77-fold increased risk of incident dementia; however, this association was not significant when adjusted for socioeconomic status, lifestyle factors, and medical conditions. Nevertheless, all MCR groups demonstrated increased risks of all-cause mortality. The inclusion of HGS in the MCR models significantly improved predictive discrimination for both incident dementia and all-cause mortality, as indicated by improvements in the C-statistic, integrated discrimination improvement (IDI) and net reclassification indices (NRI). Conclusion: Our study underscores the incremental predictive value of adding HGS to the MCR concept for estimating risks of adverse health outcomes among older adults. A modified MCR, incorporating HGS, could serve as an effective screening tool during national health examinations for identifying individuals at risk of dementia and mortality. Continuous exposure to hand-arm vibration integrated with poor posture and forceful movements are known causes of musculoskeletal disorders (MSD). In most related studies, force and vibration levels in experimental research is controlled. This study aims to determine how actual hand tractor field operation can affect the upper limb of users. It intends to characterize upper limb muscle activation applied during actual hand tractor usage. Lastly, it determines the immediate impacts on hand strength and perceived upper limb discomfort after the operation. We recruited 15 farm operators with a mean working experience of 20.1 ± 12.2 years. They were asked to operate a hand tractor on paddy fields for at most 8 minutes. Handle vibration was measured using a tri-axial accelerometer. The total unweighted vibration acceleration was computed and used to represent the handle vibration magnitude. Muscle activation was measured using surface electromyography (sEMG). Six sEMG sensors were attached to the dominant and non-dominant side of the extensor carpi radialis (ECR), bicep, and deltoid. Pre- and post-task hand strength and subjective discomfort rating were also taken. The total unweighted handle vibration acceleration is 17.45 ± 7.53 m/s2. This exceeds the allowable safe value. Meanwhile, the percentage of maximum voluntary contraction (% MVC) of the muscles ranged from 6% to 14% with the ECR having a significantly higher activation (p <.05) than the bicep and deltoid. The post-task grip strength of the dominant hand was lower than its pre-task value (p <.01) while that of the non-dominant side did not vary significantly. There is a modest trend of higher hand discomfort of the non-dominant side on post-task than pre-task rating (p <.10). Although, overall, the perceived discomfort ranged from none to mild discomfort. In conclusion, the study showed an indication that the effects of vibration on humans are evident even at mild muscle exertion, with the exertion predominantly concentrated on the distal arm area clearly affecting grip strength and hand discomfort. BACKGROUND: The shortened version of the Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand (QuickDASH) and Patient Rated Wrist/Hand Evaluation (PRWHE) are commonly used questionnaires to assess patient-reported hand function. Information about the measurement properties of the Dutch versions is scarce. OBJECTIVE: To gain insight into the measurement properties of the Dutch language versions of the QuickDASH and the PRWHE in patients with (non)specific complaints of the hand, wrist, forearm and elbow. METHODS: Internal consistency, construct validity, test-retest reliability, responsiveness, and floor and ceiling effects were assessed according to COnsensus-based Standards for the selection of health Measurement INstruments (COSMIN) recommendations. RESULTS: Questionnaires were filled out by 132 patients. Internal consistency of QuickDASH (Cronbach's α = 0.92) and PRWHE (Cronbach's α = 0.97) was high. Predefined hypotheses for construct validity were not confirmed for 75% for both QuickDASH and PRWHE (accordance with 62% of predefined hypotheses for both questionnaires). Test-retest reliability of QuickDASH (ICC = 0.90) and PRWHE (ICC = 0.87) was good. Both QuickDASH (AUC = 0.84) and PRWHE (AUC = 0.80) showed good responsiveness. No floor or ceiling effects were present. CONCLUSIONS: Measurement properties of the Dutch language versions of the QuickDASH and the PRWHE, applied to patients with (non)specific complaints of the hand, wrist, forearm and elbow, were very similar. Importance: There is a need for a pediatric hand function test that can be used to objectively assess movement quality. We have developed a toy-based test, the Bead Maze Hand Function (BMHF) test, to quantify how well a child performs an activity. This is achieved by assessing the control of forces applied while drawing a bead over wires of different complexity. Objective: To study the psychometric properties of the BMHF test and understand the influence of age and task complexity on test measures. Design: A cross-sectional, observational study performed in a single visit. Setting: Clinical research laboratory. Participants: Twenty-three participants (ages 4–15 yr) were recruited locally. They were typically developing children with no illness or conditions that affected their movement. Interventions/Assessments: Participants performed the BMHF test and the Box and Block test with both hands. Outcomes and Measures: Total force and completion time were examined according to age and task complexity using a linear mixed-effects model. We calculated intraclass correlation coefficients to measure interrater reliability of the method and estimated concurrent validity using the Box and Block test. Results: Total force and completion time decreased with age and depended on task complexity. The total force was more sensitive to task complexity. The Box and Block score was associated with BMHF completion time but not with total force. We found excellent interrater reliability. Conclusions and Relevance: A familiar toy equipped with hidden sensors provides a sensitive tool to assess a child's typical hand function. Background: Assessment of upper limb function is critical in the rehabilitation process of people with Parkinson's Disease (PD), and universally validated outcome measures are needed to allow comparisons across the practice. Moreover, the study of psychometric properties of the same tool on different clinical populations guarantees the possibility of reliably evaluating the same rehabilitation treatment in people with different clinical conditions. Aim of the study: The aim of this research was to evaluate the psychometric characteristics of the Italian adaptation of the Jebsen Taylor Hand Function Test (JTHFT) in individuals with PD. Methods: The reliability and validity of the test were assessed in accordance with international standards. Internal consistency was measured using Cronbach's alpha, and test–retest reliability was determined via the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). The construct validity and cross-cultural validity of the test were evaluated using Pearson's correlation coefficient with three assessment tools on upper limb function, independence, and quality of life, with hand grip power measured by a dynamometer and an Italian pangram. Finally, responsiveness after a one month of rehabilitation treatment was measured using the Wilcoxon rank test. Results: Fifty-two Italian people with PD were recruited. Cronbach's alpha values ranged from 0.556 (non-dominant hand) to 0.668 (dominant hand); ICC values ranged from 0.754 to 0.988. Construct validity showed that several statistically significant correlations were detected. Wilcoxon's test showed that the assessment tool can detect a change in this population after treatment. Conclusions: The JTHFT is a reliable, valid, and respondent tool to evaluate the upper limb and hand functionalities in PD patients. It should be added to the toolkit for measuring upper limb performance in this population, adding value to clinical evaluation and ensuring comparable results for different clinical populations and different countries. Background: Head-down tackling has been associated with higher rates of head and neck injuries and less successful tackles compared with head-up tackling in American football. In rugby, head and neck injuries have been associated with tackling, with the tackler's head positioned in front of the ball carrier. Purpose: To assess the success and risks of tackling techniques used in the English Rugby Premiership matches. Study Design: Cross-sectional study; Level of evidence, 3. Methods: Three reviewers analyzed 1000 consecutive solo defensive tackling attempts during the 2022 to 2023 season in 6 English Rugby Premiership matches. Slow-motion replays were used to analyze the success of the tackling attempt in terms of head angulation (head up vs head down), head position relative to the offensive player's waist at point of contact, and tackling method (inside shoulder, arm, head across the bow, and head-to-head). The chi-square test or Fisher exact test was used to analyze categorical data, and the 2-tailed Student t test or the Mann-Whitney U test was used to analyze continuous data. Results: The mean interrater reliabilities for analyzing the tackles were good across all groups (κ = 0.715). Head-up and head-down tackling occurred in 848 tackle attempts (84.8%) and 152 tackle attempts (15.2%), respectively. Head-up tackles were successful in 80.7% of the tackle attempts compared with 71.1% of the head-down tackle attempts (P =.0072). Tackles made at or above the waist were successful in 80.7% of the tackle attempts compared with 73.1% of tackles below the waist (P =.0193). The inside-shoulder technique had the highest successful tackle rate at 90.8%, compared with 44.2% with the arm technique (P <.0001) and 72.4% with the head-across-the-bow technique (P <.0001). The inside-shoulder technique resulted in head-up tackling in 84.8% of players compared with 59.8% with the head-across-the-bow technique (P <.0001) and 94.9% with arm tackling (P =.0001). There were 4 recorded injuries to the tackler: 2 neck injuries, 1 shoulder injury, and 1 wrist/hand injury. Conclusion: Head-up tackling, tackles made at or above the level of the offensive player's waist, and inside-shoulder tackling were found to be more efficient in producing successful tackles. This study aims to investigate the difference in hand acceleration induced by rapid changes in hand movement directions and propulsion between fast and slow groups of swimmers during front crawl swimming. Twenty-two participants, consisting of 11 fast and 11 slow swimmers, performed front crawl swimming at their maximal effort. Hand acceleration and velocity and the angle of attack were measured using a motion capture system. The dynamic pressure approach was used to estimate hand propulsion. In the insweep phase, the fast group attained significantly higher hand acceleration than the slow group in the lateral and vertical directions (15.31 [3.44] m·s−2 vs 12.23 [2.60] m·s−2 and 14.37 [1.70] m·s−2 vs 12.15 [1.21] m·s−2), and the fast group exerted significantly larger hand propulsion than the slow group (53 [5] N vs 44 [7] N). Although the fast group attained large hand acceleration and propulsion during the insweep phase, the hand velocity and the angle of attack were not significantly different in the 2 groups. The rapid change in hand movement direction could be considered in the technique of underwater arm stroke, particularly in the vertical direction, to increase hand propulsion during front crawl swimming. The risk of injury in archery is supposedly low. However, relations between pain, shooting phases and types of bow have not been studied. Understanding the biomechanical mechanisms of archery-related injuries. Online survey for archers from all types of bow. Variables were analyzed using contingency tables and chi-squared tests. 396 surveys were completed. 36.9% of the archers had practiced archery for more than 10 years, 23.3% between 5 and 10 years. Olympic recurve bow was the most commonly used (38.2%), followed by traditional (23.3%) and compound (22.0%). 57.3% of the archers suffered some kind of injury during archery practice. Drawing shoulder (28.2%) and neck/back injuries (19.9%) were the most prevalent, preventing 50.3% of those who suffered them from continuing archery practice. There was a moderate association between drawing arm injuries and symptomatology in the drawing phase, especially in the shoulder region (0.55), elbow (0.20), and hand (0.13), and to a lesser extent in the neck/back (0.28). Our results show that injury chronicity is frequent on archery. Correlations between types of bow, phases of the shoot and areas of pain could be a starting point for future studies on the repercussions of different types of injuries in archery practice. Arm-cycling is a versatile exercise modality with applications in both athletic enhancement and rehabilitation, yet the influence of forearm orientation remains understudied. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the impact of forearm position on upper-body arm-cycling Wingate tests. Fourteen adult males (27.3 ± 5.8 years) underwent bilateral assessments of handgrip strength in standing and seated positions, followed by pronated and supinated forward arm-cycling Wingate tests. Electromyography (EMG) was recorded from five upper-extremity muscles, including anterior deltoid, triceps brachii lateral head, biceps brachii, latissimus dorsi, and brachioradialis. Simultaneously, bilateral normal and propulsion forces were measured at the pedal-crank interface. Rate of perceived exertion (RPE), power output, and fatigue index were recorded post-test. The results showed that a pronated forearm position provided significantly (p < 0.05) higher normal and propulsion forces and triceps brachii muscle activation patterns during arm-cycling. No significant difference in RPE was observed between forearm positions (p = 0.17). A positive correlation was found between seated handgrip strength and peak power output during the Wingate test while pronated (dominant: p = 0.01, r = 0.55; non-dominant: p = 0.03, r = 0.49) and supinated (dominant: p = 0.03, r = 0.51; don-dominant: p = 0.04, r = 0.47). Fatigue changed the force and EMG profile during the Wingate test. In conclusion, this study enhances our understanding of forearm position's impact on upper-body Wingate tests. Propose further indicators for helping to detect hand osteoarthritis (HOA) using either active or functional ranges of motion (AROM or FROM). Hand kinematics data of 16 hand joint angles from previous studies were used, taken from healthy participants and HOA patients with differently affected joints and distinct levels of compromise. Data consisted of: (i) AROM (extreme values and ranges); (ii) FROM while performing the Sollerman Hand Function Test (mean, extreme percentiles and ranges). Two linear discriminant analyses (stepwise method) were conducted, one per dataset (AROM and FROM), with condition (healthy/patient) as the grouping variable. The potential predictors were the data from the joints with significant differences between samples for each analysis (A-predictors and F-predictors). Good sensitivity-specificity values of 85.2–90.9% and 93.8–93.9% for F-predictors and A-predictors, respectively. Sets of predictors corresponded to the joints more commonly affected by HOA. F-predictors: lower maximal flexion of carpometacarpal and interphalangeal thumb joints, higher maximal flexion of thumb metacarpal joint, lower flexion/extension range of ring proximal interphalangeal joint and higher maximal little finger adduction. A-predictors: narrower flexion/extension range of the thumb carpometacarpal joint, lesser extension of the ring metacarpophalangeal joint; lower flexion of the middle finger proximal interphalangeal joint along with a narrower palmar arch range. Both sets of predictors provide discrimination capacity of HOA with good sensitivity-specificity, slightly better for A-predictors. The AROM measurement is technically less demanding and can be clinically applied even with manual goniometry. Range of motion is affected by hand osteoarthritis even before joint deformity is noticeable. Active (AROM) or functional (FROM) ranges of motion can help to identify potential hand osteoarthritis and opening up the possibility of applying rehabilitation treatments to improve quality of life. Objectives: Hand function impairment causes limitations in activities of daily living among stroke survivors. Dexteria app therapy is a game-based therapy with the use of a touchscreen gadget that involves various hand movements. This study evaluates the effect of Dexteria app therapy on hand function in sub-acute stroke survivors. Methods: This study included 26 subacute stroke survivors, randomly allocated into 2 groups as follows: Group A (n=13) received conventional hand therapy while group B (n=13) received Dexteria app therapy. Both groups received 21 sixty-min therapy sessions. Gross hand function and fine manipulative hand function were assessed using the Brunnstrom hand recovery voluntary control grades and the Jebsen hand function test, respectively. Results: Inter-group comparison using the Wilcoxon rank sum test of the mean difference between groups A and B showed a significant difference in the Brunnstrom hand recovery voluntary control grades Z value which equaled -3.272 with P=0.001 and Jebsen hand function test Z=-3.0 and P=0.002. Objectives. This study examines the role of different machine learning (ML) algorithms to determine which socio-demographic factors and hand–forearm anthropometric dimensions can be used to accurately predict hand function. Methods. The cross-sectional study was conducted with 7119 healthy Iranian participants (3525 males and 3594 females) aged 10–89 years. Seventeen hand–forearm anthropometric dimensions were measured by JEGS digital caliper and a measuring tape. Tip-to-tip, key and three-jaw chuck pinches were measured using a calibrated pinch gauge. Subsequently, 21 features pertinent to socio-demographic factors and hand–forearm anthropometric dimensions were used for classification. Furthermore, 12 well-known classifiers were implemented and evaluated to predict pinches. Results. Among the 21 features considered in this study, hand length, stature, age, thumb length and index finger length were found to be the most relevant and effective components for each of the three pinch predictions. The k-nearest neighbor, adaptive boosting (AdaBoost) and random forest classifiers achieved the highest classification accuracy of 96.75, 86.49 and 84.66% to predict three pinches, respectively. Conclusions. Predicting pinch strength and determining the predictive hand–forearm anthropometric and socio-demographic characteristics using ML may pave the way to designing an enhanced tool handle and reduce common musculoskeletal disorders of the hand. An increased prevalence of mixed-handedness has been reported in several neurodevelopmental and psychiatric disorders. Unfortunately, there is high between-study variability in the definition of mixed-handedness, leading to a major methodological problem in clinical laterality research and endangering replicability and comparability of research findings. Adding to this challenge is the fact that sometimes researchers use the concepts of mixed-handedness and ambidexterity interchangeably. Therefore, having a consensus on how to determine mixed-handedness and how to distinguish it from ambidexterity is crucial for clinical laterality research. To this end, hand preference and hand performance data from more than 600 participants from the Dortmund Vital Study (Trial registration: ClinicalTrials.gov NCT05155397), a population-based study in Germany, was analyzed to ascertain an optimal classification to determine mixed-handedness and ambidexterity. Using a combination of latent class analyses, effect size determination, and comparisons with the existing literature, we establish that an LQ cut-off criterion of +/−60 for mixed-handedness is optimal for future clinical laterality studies. Moreover, we show that mixed-handedness and ambidexterity are not identical and that the terms should not be used interchangeably. We further highlight the need for a consensus on how to mathematically determine ambidexterity as results of existing categorization schemes largely differ. Elderly individuals with neurodegenerative diseases, such as Parkinson's disease (PD), may experience difficulties when performing functional tasks. To analyze the handgrip strength, pulling force, and ground reaction forces (GRF) of individuals with and without PD when boarding a bus while performing both simple (ST) and dual tasks (DT). This case-control study addressed 31 individuals with PD (GPD) and 30 healthy individuals (GHI). Assessments were performed in ST and DT situations using a bus model (prototype). Handgrip strength and pulling force were measured in both upper limbs using a dynamometer, and GRF was measured using a force platform. The GPD's and GHI's performances were compared in both ST and DT, and the individuals were classified as fallers according to the Falls Efficacy Scale. In the inter-group comparison, the GPD presented significantly lower maximum force using their right hand, in handgrip strength (30.43 vs. 36.62, P =.022), and pulling force (10.77 vs 12.81, P =.037). The left hand's pulling force proved to be the most demanding for the GPD, during ST (6.35 vs. 4.76, P =.006) and DT (6.32 vs 4.74, P =.008). The GPD also took longer to perform ST (6.14 vs. 4.67, P <.001) and DT (6.08 vs. 4.81, P =.002). Additionally, the GPD was more afraid of falling compared to the GHI (34.74 vs. 24.77, P <.001). Boarding a bus is a complex task for individuals with PD because they present lower maximum strength in the upper limbs and more significant functional expenditure than their healthy counterparts. The purpose of this study was to analyse secular trend in handgrip strength (HGS) in adolescents using an allometric approach and identify the factors associated. The sample comprised 657 and 1004 adolescents (14 to 19 years) in 2007 and 2017/2018, respectively, of public schools in Florianópolis, Brazil. The dependent variable was HGS normalised to body mass and height. Covariance analysis was used to examine secular trends in HGS, and multiple linear regression was used to identify associated factors. The independent variables were sociodemographic, biological, and behavioural factors. Comparison of HGS between surveys indicated a negative secular trend in both sexes (p < 0.001). In boys, there was a positive association of HGS with age and FFM in both surveys. In 2017/18, there was a positive association with sexual maturation and a negative association with sitting time and fat percentage. In girls, FFM was positively associated with HGS in both surveys. In 2007, there were positive associations of HGS with age and vigorous physical activity, whereas, in 2017/18, negative associations were observed with economic level and sitting time. BACKGROUND: Lumbar stabilization exercises (LSE) provide dynamic trunk stability, promote muscle strength and endurance, and improve low back pain rehabilitation and performance. OBJECTIVE: To clarify the differences in trunk muscle activity during LSEs on stable and different unstable surfaces. METHODS: Fifteen healthy males performed three exercises (elbow-toe, hand-knee, and side bridge) on stable (floor) and unstable surfaces. Muscle activity of the bilateral rectus abdominis, internal oblique, external oblique, and erector spinae were recorded. Data were compared using the Friedman test. Pairwise comparisons were performed using Wilcoxon's signed rank test if significant differences were observed. RESULTS: In the elbow-toe exercise, muscle activity of the rectus abdominis and right internal oblique increased in the following order: floor, low-difficulty, and high-difficulty unstable surface. In the hand-knee exercise, muscle activity of the internal oblique on the lower-extremity elevated side, external oblique, and erector spinae on the upper-extremity elevated side were greater on unstable surface exercise performance. In the side bridge exercise, rectus abdominis muscle activity was highest on a high-difficulty unstable surface. CONCLUSION: Trunk muscle activity increased during exercise on unstable surfaces. Describing the outcomes of an exercise program on wrist and hand function for patients with midcarpal instability (MCI). This study has a prospective cohort design. Two hundred and thirteen patients with MCI were included. The intervention was a 3-month exercise program consisting of hand therapy and home exercises. The primary outcome was perceived wrist and hand function evaluated with the Patient-Rated Wrist/Hand Evaluation (PRWHE) three months after treatment onset. Secondary outcomes were conversion to surgery, pain, and satisfaction with treatment results. PRWHE total scores improved from 51 ± 19 (mean ± SD) to 33 ± 24 at 3 months (95% CI: 36–30, p < 0.001). All visual analog scales for pain demonstrated clinically relevant improvements at 6 weeks and 3 months (p < 0.001). At 3 months, 81% of the participants would undergo the treatment again. After a median follow-up of 2.8 years, 46 patients (22%) converted to surgery. We found clinically relevant improvements in hand and wrist function and pain. Most participants would undergo treatment again and 78% of the participants did not convert to surgery. Hence, non-invasive treatment should be the primary treatment choice for patients with MCI. Midcarpal instability (MCI) is a disabling condition and treatment options are limited. Patients with MCI can benefit from an exercise program aiming to improve the strength and coordination of the wrist muscles. The human body seems symmetrical but functional asymmetry can be observed for many tasks. One of the tasks observed the functional asymmetry is grip force and rate of grip force development (RGFD). To efficiently accomplish many tasks, it is important to measure those parameters in different ages and special groups. Thus, the purpose of the study was to test asymmetry of max grip force and max RGFD among adolescents with and without intellectual disability. 41 adolescents with (IQ between 50 and 70) and 41 adolescents without intellectual disability voluntarily participated to the study. Max grip force and max RGFD was measured using a force transducer with custom-made software. The statistical analysis displayed that adolescents without intellectual disability had higher max grip force and max RGFD with their both hands compared to adolescent with intellectual disability. Interestingly, whereas adolescent without intellectual disability displayed an asymmetry between the hands both for max grip force and max RGFD, adolescents with intellectual disability had asymmetry only for max grip force but not for max RGFD. Thus, adolescents with intellectual disability may have symmetrical neurological pathways. Individuals with intellectual disability should be provided with more physical activity and/or exercise opportunities including the bimanual movements with fast and ballistic actions. Introduction: Occupational therapists and physiotherapists routinely assess Hand grip Strength (HGS) to evaluate hand function. This study explored the experiences of clinicians who regularly assess and evaluate HGS including the testing protocol utilised, evaluation methods and the influence of various biological and functional factors. Method: This exploratory survey (n = 49) was distributed online to members of the Australian Hand Therapy Association. The questionnaire asked recipients to identify HGS testing protocols, evaluation methods, use of normative data, reasons for assessment and the influence of biological and functional factors on HGS. Demographic data was also collected. Results: Sixty-four percent of respondents were occupational therapists and 59% had over 10 years' experience assessing HGS. The standardised American Society of Hand Therapists (ASHT) testing protocol was consistently adopted by only 67% of respondents. Variations in contraction time, scoring and evaluation methods were identified. Gender, age, employment and lifestyle were considered the functional and biological factors which influence HGS. Conclusion: This study details how and why occupational therapists and physiotherapists in Australia assess and evaluate HGS. Use of the ASHT testing protocol is not universal. Aim: The objective of this study was to investigate the correlation between upper extremity functionality, pain intensity, muscle strength, and symptom severity among patients diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) who underwent mini-open release surgery. Material and Method: This retrospective study entailed the review of medical records of 70 patients diagnosed with CTS who underwent mini-open release surgery between January 2021 and January 2023. Data were collected from preoperative assessments and routine follow-up evaluations conducted at 3 months post-surgery. Upper extremity functionality was assessed utilizing the Disabilities of Arm, Shoulder, and Hand (DASH) questionnaire, pain severity was determined using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS), muscle strength was evaluated through hand grip strength, and disease severity was measured using the Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire (BCTQ). Results: A statistically significant improvement was observed in DASH questionnaire scores, VAS scores, hand grip strength, and BCTQ scores at the 3-month follow-up compared to preoperative values (p<0.05). Furthermore, significant correlations were found between DASH questionnaire scores and VAS scores, hand grip strength, and BCTQ scores during postoperative assessments (p<0.05). Conclusion: Mini-open-release surgery demonstrates effectiveness as a surgical approach for achieving favorable clinical outcomes in patients with CTS. Furthermore, our findings suggest that postoperative upper extremity functionality may be influenced by factors such as pain intensity, symptom severity, and hand grip strength. Eye–hand coordination is a visuomotor task that enables one to look, localize, and touch objects. Eye–hand coordination is known to be poor in children with developmental delay. In this study, we assessed the feasibility of measuring eye–hand coordination task in children with developmental delay using Sanet Vision Integrator (SVI), a commercially available device. Children (age: 3–16 years) with developmental delay and their age-similar typically developing peers were enrolled. White circles (5.5°) on a black background were presented on the SVI touch screen monitor. Participants popped these circles by touching it. Reaction time, accuracy, and an overall performance score were computed. Participants could perform the task from 4 years of age and with visual acuity 20/400 (6/120) or better. This resulted in 85% (17/20) of children with developmental delay and 95% (19/20) of typically developing children completing the task. Children with developmental delay were significantly (p <.001) less accurate (56%) and took longer (2.63 s) to complete the task when compared with their peers (accuracy = 93%, reaction time = 1.46 s). The overall performance score of children with developmental delay was also lower than their peers by a factor of 3.3. Eye–hand coordination performance can be measured and quantified with SVI. The quantification of speed and accuracy is possible and a unitary measure combining speed-accuracy can be computed. The task can be performed both by typically developing children and by children with developmental delay. Thus, it is feasible to measure eye–hand coordination using SVI. This study aimed to investigate inter- and intra-athlete technique variability in pre-elite and elite Australian fast bowlers delivering new ball conventional swing bowling. Ball grip angle and pelvis, torso, shoulder, elbow, wrist, upper arm, forearm, and hand kinematics were investigated at the point of ball release for inswing and outswing deliveries. Descriptive evaluations of group and individual data and k-means cluster analyses were used to assess inter- and intra-bowler technique variability. Inter-athlete technique and ball grip variability were identified, demonstrating that skilled bowlers use individualised strategies to generate swing. Functional movement variability was demonstrated by intra-athlete variability in successful swing bowling trials. Bowlers demonstrated stable technique parameters in large proximal body segments of the pelvis and torso, providing a level of repeatability to their bowling action. Greater variation was observed in bowling arm kinematics, allowing athletes to manipulate the finger and ball position to achieve the desired seam orientation at the point of ball release. This study demonstrates that skilled bowlers use individualised techniques and grips to generate swing and employ technique variations in successive deliveries. Coaches should employ individualised training strategies and use constraints-led approaches in training environments to encourage bowlers to seek adaptive movement solutions to generate swing. Hand grip strength (HGS) is an important diagnostic tool for sarcopenia and a reliable predictor for age-related chronic diseases and mortality. Interventions in nutrition have been shown as a low-cost strategy to maintain muscular strength and mass. However, there are limited data on the effect of diet on HGS in Southeast Asian populations. This study aims to investigate the association of diet quality with HGS weakness and asymmetry in a multi-ethnic population in Singapore. This cross-sectional study used data from the Singapore Multi-Ethnic Cohort (n = 1547). Dietary data were collected using a validated semi-quantitative FFQ and summarised as the Dietary Quality Index – International (DQI-I). HGS was calculated as the maximum value of six measurements from both hands. HGS weakness and asymmetry were defined using well-recognised criteria. Multivariable linear regression and logistic regression were utilised for continuous and binary outcomes, respectively, adjusting for age, sex, ethnicity, physical activity and smoking status. It was found that the highest quartile of DQI-I was significantly associated with higher HGS (β = 1·11; 95 % CI 0·41, 1·82; P for trend < 0·001) and lower odds of HGS asymmetry (OR = 0·71; 95 % CI 0·53, 0·94; P for trend = 0·035) and both HGS weakness and asymmetry (OR = 0·50; 95 % CI 0·32, 0·76; P for trend = 0·004). Among the different components of DQI-I, only dietary adequacy was significantly associated with higher HGS (P for trend < 0·001) and lower odds for both HGS weakness and asymmetry (P for trend = 0·006). Our findings support that DQI-I, an indicator of overall diet quality, can be used to provide dietary guidelines for prevention and management of muscle wasting, sarcopenia and frailty. INTRODUCTION: Hand/instrument motion-tracking in surgical simulation provides valuable data to improve psychomotor skills and can serve as a formative evaluation tool. Motion analysis has been well-studied in laparoscopic surgery; however, there are essentially no studies looking at motion-tracking for flexible ureteroscopy (fURS), a common surgical procedure requiring hand dexterity and 3D spatial awareness. We aimed to design a synchronized motion-tracking and video capture system for fURS capable of collecting objective metrics for use in surgical skills training. METHODS: Motion tracking of the ureteroscope was performed using a motion-tracking platform, inertial measurement units (IMUs), and an optical sensor. Position (x, y, z) and orientation (roll, pitch, yaw) of the ureteroscope handle, lever deflection, and translation of the scope insertion point were collected. Video capture of the operator's hands was collected with a Raspberry Pi camera. All peripherals were controlled on a Raspberry Pi 4 and synchronized to its system clock. RESULTS: Our system demonstrated good accuracy in detecting translation of the ureteroscope in the x- and y-axes, and yaw, pitch and roll of the ureteroscope at discrete orientations of 0, ±30, ±60, and ±90 degrees. Unique to fURS, deflection of the lever was captured by the difference in IMU static accelerations with good accuracy. The optical sensor detected translation of the ureteroscope at the insertion point with good precision and an average error of 5.51%. CONCLUSIONS: We successfully developed a motion-tracking and video-capture system capable of collecting motion-analysis parameters unique to fURS. Tuberculous dactylitis is infrequently seen after the age of 6 years. The index and middle fingers are the most common sites. Early diagnosis is essential to eradicate the infection. Delay in diagnosis and management leads to extensive involvement which may require surgical intervention. The current literature reveals conservative management gives satisfactory results in early stages. Though surgical intervention in Tuberculous dactylitis is seldom required, delay in diagnosis and management leads to extensive involvement of the bone and sequestration which does not respond to Anti Tubercular Therapy and needs staged surgical interventions. We report a case of an 11-year-old girl who presented to us after extensive involvement of 2nd and 3rd metacarpals and failed to respond to ATT even after 1.5 years of medication. She required staged surgeries to eradicate the infection which led to loss of 2nd and 3rd metacarpals. Complex reconstructive procedures of hand were required in stages and the bone loss was managed with non-vascularized Fibular strut graft. At 2 years of follow up, there is complete incorporation of the graft, and the patient has satisfactory functions of the hand and can carry out activities of daily living with ease. Most stroke survivors have remaining upper limb impairment six months after stroke and require additional rehabilitation and help from family members to enhance their performance of daily activities. First-person (egocentric) video has been proposed to capture the activities of daily living (ADLs) of stroke survivors in order to assess their hand function at home. This study explored the experiences and expectations of stroke survivors regarding the use of egocentric cameras in daily life for rehabilitation applications. Twenty-one chronic stroke survivors recruited for the study were asked to record three sessions of 1.5 h of video of their ADLs at home over two weeks. Their experiences and expectations after completing the recordings were discussed using a structured questionnaire and a semi-structured interview. The questionnaire and interview data were analysed using descriptive statistics and content analysis, respectively. The results were further integrated using a mixed methods analysis for mutual explanation and elaboration. The themes generated were Camera Usability, Privacy Concerns Related to Home Recordings, Future Use of the Camera in Public, and Information Usefulness. The participants perceived that the camera was easy to use, the information obtained from the recordings was beneficial, and no major concerns about recording at home. A discreet camera and a solution to privacy issues were prerequisites to recording tasks in public. There was high acceptance among stroke survivors regarding the use of wearable cameras for rehabilitation purposes in the future. Concerns to be managed include discomfort, self-consciousness, and the privacy of others. The egocentric camera was easy for the stroke survivors to use at home. However, they expressed a preference for cameras to be less noticeable and lighter in the future to minimize self-consciousness and discomfort. Expectations for future use of an egocentric camera for upper limb rehabilitation at home from the perspectives of stroke survivors included receiving feedback on their hand function in daily life and guidance on how to improve function. Privacy concerns of stroke survivors regarding recording activities of daily living were mostly avoidable by planning in advance. However, some personal hygiene tasks and virtual meetings were recorded by accident. This study aims to determine the reliability of the hand-eye coordination Software. The integrated control of hand and eye movements, as well as the processing of visual information to support attainment and acquisition and the use of hand proprioception to guide the eyes, are known as hand-eye coordination. Thus, this study aims to determine the reliability of the tests, so the research was conducted thrice with an interval of 6-7 days (testretest). 28 Young Adults (18- 35 years of age) have participated in the study. The analysis includes finger-pointing tasks performed only with the use of Hand-eye coordination software prepared by the Software engineer. In this Software, Visual targets in the form of a ball then appeared on the screen on the left, on the right, or in the center in random order., and participants were asked to point an index finger of the leading hand as rapidly and precisely as possible at all targets on the screen. After touching the target (indicated by its disappearance), the participant immediately placed his/her hand back in the designated starting position (touchpad).Each participant was required to repeat this finger-pointing task. The accuracy value after 1 minute was recorded and the average accuracy value was calculated and used in the analysis A smaller value indicates greater touch accuracy. In addition, the average reaction time (in milliseconds) was also measured. Isometric strength training has been reported to benefit various sport-related dynamic performances. However, it is still unknown whether performing isometric strength training at single or multiple joint angles would elicit greater benefit. Purpose: To compare the effects of isometric bench press performed at single (SIBP) and multiple (MIBP) joint angles on dynamic strength and overhead throwing performance. Methods: Sixteen male softball and baseball athletes performed overhead throwing, 1-repetition-maximum (1RM) bench press, and ballistic push-up during pretest and posttest. They were then randomly assigned to either SIBP or MIBP to undergo 12 strength training sessions. During the training, isometric bench press was performed at only 90° elbow angle for SIBP but at 60°, 90°, and 120° elbow angles for MIBP. Results: A significant main time effect was observed for bench press 1RM (P =.003) and relative 1RM (P <.001). Similarly, a significant main time effect was observed for ballistic push-up peak power only (P =.037). There was no significant change in overhead throwing velocity in either group. There was also no significant difference in change in all measures between groups. However, a moderate effect in favor of MIBP was observed for change in ballistic push-up peak power (P =.180, g = 0.67). Conclusions: Based on the current findings, the inclusion of both SIBP and MIBP were equally beneficial to maximal strength development. Background: The objective was to investigate self-reported hand eczema, and skin complaints at other skin locations among workers exposed to particulate matter, especially ultrafine particles. Method: We conducted a cross-sectional study on workers from one ferro-silicon smelter plant, eight chimney sweeper stations and one firefighter station across Norway. Participants answered an extended version of the Nordic Occupational Skin Questionnaire (NOSQ-2022), with additional questions about whole-body skin complaints and visible dust deposition. Results are presented as descriptive data using firefighters as reference group. Odds ratio (OR) was calculated using logistic regression on lifetime prevalence of hand eczema adjusted for potential confounders and mediators. P-values were calculated using likelihood ratio test against the crude OR. Results: A total of 186 participants answered the questionnaire: 74 chimney sweepers, 52 firefighters and 60 smelter workers. Participation rate was 95.0, 94.5 and 63.6%, respectively. Lifetime prevalence of hand eczema was 9.5, 9.6, and 28.3%, respectively. The point prevalence of hand eczema was 1.4, 1.9 and 10.0%, respectively. We estimated OR for lifetime hand eczema in smelter workers to 4.36 [95% CI: 1.31–14.43, p = 0.016] and for lifetime skin complaints in other locations to 2.25 [95% CI: 0.98–5.18, p = 0.058]. The lifetime prevalence of skin complaints at other locations was 18.9, 23.1 and 40.0%, respectively. The point prevalence was 14.9, 9.6 and 16.7%, respectively. These estimates were not statistically significant but indicates that smelter workers have more skin complaints also at other locations. Conclusion: This study reports a more than four-fold increased risk of hand eczema in smelter workers, and possibly a higher risk of skin complaints in other body locations, compared to the other occupations. Background: There are a significant number of female athletes competing at the highest levels of sport. But, women are still largely underrepresented in scientific literature. The female menstrual cycle is characterized by variations in circulating hormone levels, which may have an impact on performance. Aim: This study aimed to assess the impact of hormonal changes through different menstrual cycle phases on hand grip strength, pulp pinch strength, three fingers pinch strength, and lateral pinch strength of athletic and non-athletic girls. Methods: An observational case control study was conducted on forty post-pubertal girls, their ages ranged from 16 to 22 years old, and their body mass index (BMI) ranged from 18.5 to 25 kg/m2. They were divided into two groups: athletic group of twenty basketball and tennis players recruited from basketball and tennis teams at Mena Garden City Club, 6 October Club, and Shooting Club October and non-athletic group of twenty non-sportive undergraduate students from Faculty of Physical Therapy, Misr University for Science and Technology. Hand grip strength was evaluated by Jamar hand dynamometer, while pulp pinch strength, three fingers pinch strength, and lateral pinch strength were evaluated by Jamar pinch gauge through three different menstrual cycle phases (follicular, ovulatory and luteal phases). Results: Statistical analysis demonstrated a significant increase in handgrip strength, pulp pinch strength, three fingers pinch strength, and lateral pinch strength in non-athletic group. Also, there was a significant increase in three fingers pinch strength and lateral pinch strength in athletic group during the ovulatory phase across the menstrual cycle (p < 0.05). But, there was a significant difference across menstrual phases in handgrip strength and pulp pinch strength in athletic group (p > 0.05). Conclusion: Hormonal changes during menstrual cycle phases do not alter handgrip strength, pulp pinch strength performance for athletic girls. But, they alter hand grip strength, pulp pinch strength, three fingers, and lateral pinch grip strength performance for non-athletic girls. Intellectual disability (ID) is a public health challenge affecting communities worldwide. ID is characterized by impaired physical and cognitive functioning and less engaged in physical activities. The objective of this study was to assess the impact of adaptive yoga practices on cognitive and motor abilities in the subjects with ID. Sixty-six subjects with mild and moderate IDs were purposively selected and randomly divided into experimental and control groups, with 33 subjects in each group. One month of adaptive yoga module was provided to the experimental group. To assess the impact of the yoga intervention, Functional Reach Test (FRT), Wall Toss Test (WTT), Finger Tapping Test (FTT), Sit-- Reach Test (SRT), and Six Letter Cancellation Test (SLCT) were administered. The experimental group showed a statistically significant improvement with P < 0.05 across all the parameters, whereas the control group could not observe a significant improvement. Based on the results, this study concludes that "one month of adaptive yoga module" delivered impact and helped to improve the dynamic balance, eye--hand coordination, neuro-motor function, spinal flexibility, and selective attention in ID-afflicted subjects.
