Background With the aggravation of population aging in China, the number of elderly perioperative orthopedic patients is increasing, and the growing prevalence of frailty in older patients undergoing orthopedic surgery has attracted increasing attention. Early preoperative assessment and intervention of frailty are of great significance for improving postoperative prognosis and reducing the occurrence of complications in this population. Objective To perform a scoping review of frailty assessment tools for elderly orthopedic inpatients, and to provide a reference for the selection of frailty assessment tools for this group. Methods Seven databases (PubMed, CINAHL, PsycINFO, Scopus, Embase, CNKI and Wanfang Data) were searched for studies on frailty assessment tools for older orthopedic inpatients from 2006 to 2021. Two researchers independently screened the literature and extracted the basic characteristics of the literature (the flint author, publication time, country, basic information, research tools and outcome indicators) and the basic characteristics of involved frailty assessment tools (name, study country, study type, scale dimension, number of items, assessment cut-off value, assessment time, etc.) . Results A total of 1733 studies were retrieved, and 25 of them with 12 frailty assessment tools were included. The analysis showed that there are a variety of assessment tools, and different studies have used different frailty assessment tools. Frailty Phenotype and Frailty Index are the two common tools. The application of accurate and effective tools for frailty screening is crucial to improving preoperative risk stratification and postoperative prognosis. Frailty assessment using the Reported Edmonton Frail Scale, FRAIL Scale, PRISMA-7 Questionnaire or the Groningen Frailty Index can be completed without the use of additional measuring equipment and surveyors with an experience of training. Conclusion The selection of an optimal frailty assessment tool for elderly orthopedic inpatients should be in accordance with patient features, clinical resources and the performance of the tool. However, there is still lack of a gold standard for frailty assessment. Future studies are needed to assess the reliability and validity of existing frailty assessment scales or to develop frailty assessment tools applicable to Chinese older orthopedic inpatients.

Skin contacts with objects with different thermal conductivity and tactile perception will produce different temperature and tactile sensations. Here, an innovative creation is presented known as the BB‐Skin, a highly realistic bionic bimodal electronic skin, meticulously designed to mirror the thermal sensitivity and tactile perception found in human skin. This technology allows for precise object recognition and offers remote temperature sensing feedback. The BB‐Skin comprises temperature sensing, heating, and tribo‐electrode modules. Through the utilization of machine learning algorithms that measure the thermal conductivity and electronegativity of materials, a bimodal bionic robot object recognition system is developed, achieving an impressive accuracy rate exceeding 98.11%. The bimodal nature of the system, based on different types of electrical signals that operate independently, significantly enhances the reliability of the device. Moreover, harnessing the inherent capabilities of the BB‐Skin, a novel remote temperature sensing and feedback system is successfully implemented. This system adeptly replicates the temperature perception when remotely touching objects and provides users with feedback through gloves embedded with heating and cooling modules. Vinyl‐substituted hydridopolycarbosilane (VHPCS) is widely studied for its low viscosity, abundance of active functional groups, rapid curing, and high ceramic yield. The curing reactions mainly involve the free radical polymerization of vinyl and hydrosilylation reactions, but these reactions typically require high temperatures such as 160–250°C. The curing behavior of VHPCS‐17 with a tert‐butyl peroxybenzoate/Nickel acetylacetonate (TBPB/NIAA) system is investigated using differential scanning calorimetry and in situ Fourier transform infrared. The properties of VHPCS‐17 with different initiator systems and VHPCS with different vinyl contents (under TBPB/NIAA system) are studied using thermogravimetric analysis and x‐ray diffraction. The results demonstrate that the TBPB/NIAA system can facilitate the free radical polymerization of vinyl; moreover, this system decreases the peak temperature of the curing reaction from 251 to 141°C and increases the ceramic yield from 80.49% to 89.88%. The ceramic yield of cured VHPCS increases gradually, reaching 89.88% when the vinyl content is 17%. The grain size of β‐SiC decreases continuously with the increase in vinyl content, while the high‐temperature oxidation‐resistant properties of SiC ceramics obtained from different VHPCSs are not negatively affected. This work reports a highly‐strain flexible fiber sensor with a core–shell structure utilizes a unique swelling diffusion technique to infiltrate carbon nanotubes (CNTs) into the surface layer of Ecoflex fibers. Compared with traditional blended Ecoflex/CNTs fibers, this manufacturing process ensures that the sensor maintains the mechanical properties (923% strain) of the Ecoflex fiber while also improving sensitivity (gauge factor is up to 3716). By adjusting the penetration time during fabrication, the sensor can be customized for different uses. As an application demonstration, the fiber sensor is integrated into the glove to develop a wearable gesture language recognition system with high sensitivity and precision. Additionally, the authors successfully monitor the pressure distribution on the curved surface of a soccer ball by winding the fiber sensor along the ball's surface. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Tellurium exhibits exceptional intrinsic electronic properties. However, investigations into the modulation of tellurium's electronic properties through physical modification are notably scarce. Here, we present a comprehensive study focused on the evolution of the electronic properties of tellurium crystal flakes under plasma irradiation treatment by employing conductive atomic force microscopy and Raman spectroscopy. The plasma-treated tellurium experienced a process of defect generation through lattice breaking. Prior to the degradation of electronic transport performance due to plasma irradiation treatment, we made a remarkable observation: in the low-energy region of hydrogen plasma-treated tellurium, a notable enhancement in conductivity was unexpectedly detected. The mechanism underlying this enhancement in electronic transport performance was thoroughly elucidated by comparing it with the electronic structure induced by argon plasma irradiation. This study not only fundamentally uncovers the effects of plasma irradiation on tellurium crystal flakes but also unearths an unprecedented trend of enhanced electronic transport performance at low irradiation energies when utilizing hydrogen plasma. This abnormal trend bears significant implications for guiding the prospective application of tellurium-based 2D materials in the realm of electronic devices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Herein, supercapacitors (SC) are fabricated on arbitrary flexible substrates by constructing copper sulfide nanotrough‐network and electrodeposition of polyaniline (PANI@CuS NN) as electrode. Attributed to its unique hollow structure, the CuS NN current collector demonstrates high conductivity (10.4 Ω □−1) and mechanical flexibility (within 2.3% relative resistance change after more than 1,000 bending times at the radius of 4 mm). The obtained PANI@CuS NN electrode demonstrates more than 218.28 F g−1 specific capacity at the current density of 1 A g−1, remaining 85.08% of the original capacity after 1,000 cycles (5 A g−1). This can be attributed to that CuS NN provides abundant attachment sites for PANI by the large specific surface area. Additionally, a flexible solid‐state supercapacitor is constructed by coating silk fibroin hydrogel as the electrolyte between the PANI@CuS NN and another CuS NN electrode loaded with multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs@CuS NN). The capacity is 107.8 F g−1 at the current density of 0.25 A g−1 with excellent cycling stability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
