Background Acute kidney injury (AKI) is widespread in the intensive care unit (ICU) and affects patient prognosis. According to Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) guidelines, the absolute and relative increases of serum creatinine (Scr) are classified into the same stage. Whether the prognosis of the two types of patients is similar in the ICU remains unclear. Methods According to the absolute and relative increase of Scr, AKI stage 1 and stage 3 patients were divided into stage 1a and 1b, stage 3a and 3b groups, respectively. Their demographics, laboratory results, clinical characteristics, and outcomes were analyzed retrospectively. Results Of the 345 eligible cases, we analyzed stage 1 because stage 3a group had only one patient. Using 53 or 61.88 µmol/L as the reference Scr (Scrref), no significant differences were observed in ICU mortality (P53=0.076, P61.88=0.070) or renal replacement therapy (RRT) ratio, (P53=0.356, P61.88=0.471) between stage 1a and 1b, but stage 1b had longer ICU length of stay (LOS) than stage 1a (P53

Levofloxacin (LVX), as a broad-spectrum antibiotic, is ubiquitous in water environments due to its wide application and good water solubility, posing a certain threat to the ecological environment. Therefore, it is necessary to design a fluorescent sensor with an effective detection ability. In this work, two new Cd(II)-based metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) [Cd(L)0.5(tdc)·H2O]n (1) and [Cd(L)0.5(btec)0.5]n (2) (L = 1,4-di(1H-benzo[d]imidazol-2-yl)butane, H2tdc = 2,5-thiophenedicarboxylic acid, H4btec = 1,2,4,5-benzenetetracarboxylic acid) were hydrothermally synthesized and characterized. 1 presents a 2D hierarchical layer with a 3,4L83 network, whereas 2 exhibits a 3D framework with fsh topology. The two Cd(II)-MOFs exhibit superior thermal and chemical stability (pH = 3–12). 1 and 2 can selectively identify LVX with ultra-high sensitivity (0.01 μM and 0.02 μM), rapid response (in 30 s) and excellent selectivity in water. Meanwhile, 1 and 2 also can be efficient probes for detection of Fe3+ ions with detection limits of 1.08 μM and 1.74 μM, respectively. Moreover, the two dual-response luminescent sensors exhibit remarkable reusability. The quenching mechanisms were also investigated from the perspective of energy transfer and photoinduced electron transfer (PET) in detail.

Two new Cd2+ coordination polymers (CPs), namely {[Cd(L)(1,4-PDA)]·0.7(C2H5OH)}n (1) and {[Cd(L)0.5(1,8-NDC)·H2O]}n (2) [L = 1,4-bis(5,6-dimethybenzimidazol-1-yl)-2-butene, 1,4-H2PDA = 1.4-phenylenediacetic acid, 1,8-H2NDC = 1,8-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid], were hydrothermally synthesized and characterized. 1 is a (4,4)-layered structure and further extended into a 3D supramolecular network via π–π stacking interactions. 2 features a 2D (3,4)-connected 3,4L83 framework. 1 and 2 can act as luminescence sensors for detecting acetylacetone (acac) and Fe3+ with high sensitivity, selectivity and recyclability. This is the first dual fluorosensors employing CPs for the detection of Fe3+ and acac. The mechanism for the luminescent sensing of acac and Fe3+ was suggested.

Five new CdII-based ternary metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) constructed from structurally related ligands, namely, [Cd(L1)(DCTP)]n (1), [Cd2(L2)2(DCTP)2]n (2), {[Cd2(L3)(DCTP)2]·3.75H2O}n (3), {[Cd(L4)(DCTP)]·0.85H2O}n (4) and [Cd0.5(L5)0.5(DCTP)0.5]n (5) (H2DCTP = 2,5-dichloroterephthalic acid, L1 = 1,4-di(1H-benzo[d]imidazol-2-yl)butane, L2 = 1,5-di(1H-benzo[d]imidazol-2-yl)pentane, L3 = 1,3-bis(1-(pyridin-4-ylmethyl)-1H-benzo[d]imidazol-2-yl)propane, L4 = 1,4-bis(1-(pyridin-4-ylmethyl)-1H-benzo[d]imidazol-2-yl)butane and L5 = 1,6-bis(1-(pyridin-4-ylmethyl)-1H-benzo[d]imidazol-2-yl)hexane), have been hydrothermally synthesized and characterized. While 1 and 5 show the common 2D hcb and 3D sqc6 topologies, respectively, 2 exhibits a rare (4,4)-connected 2-node 2D 4,4L62 network, 3 reveals an unprecedented 3D (3,3,4,5)-connected framework with the point symbol {4·92}2{42·82·92}{42·84·93·10}2{93}2 and 4 presents an unusual (3,5)-connected 3D gra topological framework. The results show that the coordination mode of dicarboxylate ligands and the auxiliary N-containing linkers have a crucial impact on the structural diversities of ternary Cd-MOFs. Further, 2 and 3 are favorable dual-functional fluorescent sensors for the detection of Fe3+/acetylacetone and Cr2O72− (pH = 4)/acetylacetone, respectively, with high sensitivity and selectivity.

Two Cd(II) coordination polymers (CPs), namely {[Cd(L1)(mip)]·0.33H2O}n (1) and {[Cd(L2)(BDC-Cl4)]·1.35H2O}n (2) (H2mip = 5-methylisophthalic acid; L1 = 1,5-bis(benzimidazol-1-yl)pentane; H2BDC-Cl4 = tetrachloroterephthalic acid; L2 = 1,2-bis(2-methylbenzimidazol-1-yl)benzene) were synthesized and characterized. 1 features a 3D pcu network, 2 displays a 2D (4,4) layer. The photocatalytic activities of CPs 1 and 2 for degradation of methylene blue (MB) solution as well as the influence factors such as pH, concentration of dye and catalyst dosage were investigated under UV irradiation. The thermogravimetric analyses and luminescence properties of 1 and 2 were also carried out.

A cobalt(II) coordination polymer with an unusual 4,4,4-connected network was hydrothermally synthesized and observed with high thermal, solvent, and pH stabilities. This polymer can serve as the first dual-responsive fluorescent chemosensor for the selective detection of acetylacetone and Cr2O72- ion (pH 3.0) in aqueous systems.

Two ternary Ni(II) coordination polymers (CPs) named as: {[Ni2(L1)2(1,8-NDC)2(H2O)2]·2H2O}n (1), {[Ni2(L2)1.5(FA)(H2O)3]·3.75H2O}n (2), (L1 = 1,6-bis(5,6-dimethylbenzimidazol-1-yl)hexane, L2 = bis(5,6-dimethylbenzimidazol-1-yl)methane, 1,8-H2NDC = 1,8-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid, H4FA = 4,4′-(hexafluoroisopropylidene)diphthalic acid) were hydrothermally synthesized and characterized through physicochemical and spectroscopic methods. CP 1 features a 1D double straight-line chain and further extends into a 2D layers via π–π stacking interactions, while CP 2 shows a unique 2D (5,4,4)-connected network. The thermal stabilities, luminescence properties and photocatalytic activities of CPs 1–2 for methylene blue decomposition were also presented in detail. Two luminescent Ni(II) coordination polymers (CPs) were synthesized under hydrothermal condition. The crystal structure of CP 1 features a 1D double straight-line chain and further extends into a 2D layers via π–π stacking interactions, while CP 2 shows a unique 2D (5,4,4)-connected network. The photocatalytic experiments in the presence of catalysts CP 1 indicated higher degradation efficiency for MB solution than CP 2, and ·OH radical plays a key effect in the efficient degradation of MB.

Two new Ni(II) coordination polymers (CPs), [Ni(L1)(IPA)]n (1) and [Ni(L2)(IPA)·H2O]n (2) (L1 = 1,6-bis(benzimidazol-1-yl)hexane, L2 = 1,6-bis(5,6-dimethylbenzimidazol-1-yl)hexane, H2IPA = isophthalic acid) were synthesized by hydrothermal and sonochemical process. X-ray crystal structure analysis revealed that 1 possesses a 4-connected 3D architecture with a 65.8 CdSO4 topology, while 2 exhibits a 2D layer, which can be classified as a honeycomb 63-hcb network. The results indicate that Ni(II) mixed CPs structurally modulated by the flexible bis(benzimidazole)-involved co-ligands. The role of ultrasound irradiation power, reaction time and reaction temperature on the size and morphology of the nano-sized 1 and 2 were investigated in detail. Further, fluorescence and photocatalytic activities of nano-sized CPs for degradation of methylene blue (MB) are presented.

Two new Cd(II) metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) formulated as [Cd(L)(atpa)]n (1) and [Cd(L)(tbta)(H2O)]n (2) [H2atpa = 2-aminoterephthalic acid, H2tbta = tetrabromoterephthalic acid, L = 1,4-bis(benzimidazol-1-yl)-2-butene] were hydrothermally synthesized. 1–2 were characterized by IR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. 1 displays a 3D framework with five-fold interpenetrating dia topology. 2 holds a 2D corrugated sql layer. Both MOFs were confirmed to be dual-responsive luminescent sensors (Cu2+ and Cr2O72− for 1, Hg2+ and Cr2O72− for 2) in water through the luminescence quenching experiments. The detection limits for these species were 1.2 μM (Cu2+) and 0.29 μM (Cr2O72−) of 1, 0.043 μM (Hg2+) and 0.13 μM (Cr2O72−) of 2, respectively. The luminescence quenching mechanism was investigated.

Two new Cd(II) supramolecular coordination polymers (CPs) formulated as [Cd(L1)(DCTP)]n (1) and {[Cd(L2)(HBTC)(H2O)]·H2O}n (2) [H2DCTP = 2,5-dichloroterephthalic acid, H3BTC = 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylic acid, L1 = 1,3-bis(2-methylbenzimidazol-1-ylmethyl)benzene and L2 = 1,2-bis(imidazol-1-ylmethyl)benzene] were hydrothermally synthesized. Both CPs exhibit 2D (4,4) layered structures and further extend into 3D supramolecular frameworks by π–π stacking interactions for CP 1, O H⋯O classic hydrogen bonding interactions for CP 2, respectively. The luminescence and photocatalytic properties of CPs 1–2 for the degradation of methylene blue also presented.

A 3D Zn(II) coordination polymer (CP) {[Zn(L)0.5(1,4-bib)]·H2O}n (1), (H4L = 1,2,4,5-cyclohexanetetracarboxylic acid, 1,4-bib = 1,4-bis(1H-imidazol-1-yl)benzene) with flower-like morphology was synthesized under ultrasonic irradiation and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, powder X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. CP 1 exhibits a 4-connected 3-fold interpenetrating mog framework. The thermal stability and luminescence properties of nano 1 were investigated. Moreover, nanostructures of zinc(II) oxide were obtained by calcination of nano 1 at 600 °C under air atmospheres. Further, nano 1 shows a remarkable photocatalytic activity for degradation of MB under UV irradiation, a possible photocatalytic mechanism is proposed in terms of the HOMO–LUMO gap and the associated UV light-induced transitions in the compound.

Two ternary Cd(II) coordination polymers (CPs), namely, [Cd(TDC)(L)]n (1) and {[Cd(TCPA)(L)]·H2O}n (2) (H2TDC = 2,5-thiophenedicarboxylic acid, H2TCPA = 2,3,5,6-tetrabromoterephthalic acid, L = 1,4-bis(thiabendazole-1-yl)-2-butene) were hydrothermally synthesized and characterized. Both CPs display the 2D 63 layer, which are finally extended into 3D supramolecular network by weak hydrogen bond interactions. 1 and 2 possess excellent chemical stability in a wide pH range of 2−13. Both Cd(II) CPs can serve as efficient luminescent probes for sensing of acetylacetone (acac), Fe(III) ions and norfloxacin (NOR) in water. The photodegradation ability of two CPs for methyl violet under UV irradiation was investigated in detail.

BACKGROUND: In the event of a sudden shortage of medical resources, a rapid, simple, and accurate prediction model is essential for the 30-day mortality rate of patients with COVID-19. METHODS: This retrospective study compared the characteristics of the survivals and non-survivals of 278 patients with COVID-19. Logistic regression analysis was performed to obtain the “COVID-19 death risk score” (CDRS) model. Using the area under the receiver operating characteristic (AUROC) curve and Hosmer-Lemeshow goodness-of-fit test, discrimination and calibration were assessed. Internal validation was conducted using a regular bootstrap method. RESULTS: A total of 63 (22.66%) of 278 included patients died. The logistic regression analysis revealed that high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP; odds ratio [OR]=1.018), D-dimer (OR=1.101), and respiratory rate (RR; OR=1.185) were independently associated with 30-day mortality. CDRS was calculated as follows: CDRS=−10.245+(0.022×hsCRP)+(0.172×D-dimer)+(0.203×RR). CDRS had the same predictive effect as the sequential organ failure assessment (SOFA) and “confusion, uremia, respiratory rate, blood pressure, and age over 65 years” (CURB-65) scores, with AUROCs of 0.984 for CDRS, 0.975 for SOFA, and 0.971 for CURB-65, respectively. And CDRS showed good calibration. The AUROC through internal validations was 0.980 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.965–0.995). Regarding the clinical value, the decision curve analysis of CDRS showed a net value similar to that of CURB-65 in this cohort. CONCLUSION: CDRS is a novel, efficient and accurate prediction model for the early identification of COVID-19 patients with poor outcomes. Although it is not as advanced as the other models, CDRS had a similar performance to that of SOFA and CURB-65.

Two new metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), [Ag(H2BTA)0.5(L1)0.5]n (1) and {[Ag2(BTA)0.5(L2)]·0.5H2O}n (2) were hydrothermally synthesized (L1 ​= ​1,4-bis(1-(pyridin-4-ylmethyl)-1H-benzo[d]imidazole-2-yl)butane, L2 ​= ​1,4-bis(1-(pyridin-4-ylmethyl)-1H-benzo[d]imidazole-2-yl)hexane H4BTA ​= ​1,2,4,5-benzenetetracarboxylic acid) and characterized by physico-chemical and spectroscopic methods. 1 manifests an unprecedented 3D gwg topological network. 2 plays an unusual 3,4,4L65 2D sheet with a 3-node (3,4,4)-connected framework. Both 1 and 2 can serve as multi-responsive fluorescence sensors for detection of Cr2O72− ions, benzaldehyde and levofloxacin (LEV) with high sensitivity and selectivity. The sensing mechanism of two MOFs is further discussed.

A new coordination polymer formulated as [Zn(L)(1,3-BDC)] (L = 1,3-bis-(benzimidazole-1-ylmethylene)-benzene, 1,3-H2BDC = isophthalic acid) is hydrothermally synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, and single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. It crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/n, a = 10.179(3) A, b = 10.510(3) A, c = 23.217(6) A, α = 90, β = 91.983(3), γ = 90°, V = 2482.4(11) A3, Z = 4, C30H22N4O4Zn, Mr = 567.91, Dc = 1.520 g/cm3, μ = 1.036 mm–1. The complex exhibits a 2D (4,4) network with the point symbol {44,62} and further extended into a 3D supramolecular framework through π⋯π stacking interactions between two well-overlapping benzimidazolyl rings of the neighboring L ligands. Furthermore, the thermal stability and fluorescence properties of the complex are investigated.

An Ag(I) coordination polymer {[Ag(L)(Htbip)]} n (H2tbip = 5-tert-butylisophthalic acid, L = 1,1-(1,4- butanediyl)bis-1H-benzimidazole) is synthesized and characterized by the elemental analysis, infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and single crystal X-ray diffraction. It crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/c, a = 18.2755(13), b = 8.8515(6), c = 18.4000(13) A, β = 104.9200(10)°, V = 2876.1(3) A3, Z = 4, C30H31,AgN4O4, Mr = 619.46, Dc = 1.431 g/cm3, μ = 0.742 mm−1. The structural analyses display that this compound has a 1D zigzag chain structure which is further extended into a 3D supramolecular framework through O–H⋯O hydrogen bond interactions. The complex can be stable up to 215°C.

Two new Cd(II) coordination polymers, namely [Cd(L1)(DCTP)]n (1) and [Cd(L2)(TPA)]n (2) (L1 = 1,3-bis(5,6-dimethylbenzimidazol-1-yl)propane, L2 = 1,4-bis(5,6-dimethylbenzimidazol-1-yl)-2-butylene, H2DCTP = 2,5-dichloroterephthalic acid, H2TPA = terephthalic acid) were solvothermally prepared and characterized. 1 reveals a 2D (4,4)-connected 4,4L10 sheet with the point symbol of {32•4•62•7}2{32•62•72}. 2 displays a 2D sql network. 1 and 2 can serve as dual luminescent probes to sense acetylacetone (acac) and Fe3+ with low detection limits. The luminescent sensing mechanism of two compounds was investigated in detail.

Two new ternary Zn(II) coordination polymers, namely {[Zn(L1)(PA)].H2O}n (1) and [Zn(L2)(PA)]n (2) (L1 = 1,3-bis(benzimidazol-1-ylmethyl)benzene, L2 = 1,4-bis(benzimidazol-1-ylmethyl)benzene, H2PA = pimelic acid), were hydrothermally synthesized and characterized. 1 shows a 1D ladder-like chain and can further form 2D supramolecular framework by π − π stacking interactions, while 2 exhibits a 2D (6,3) layer. 1 and 2 show excellent photocatalytic performance for the degradation of methyl violet under UV irradiation, the degradation efficiencies of 1 and 2 can reach 98.5% and 94.8% after 150 min, respectively. Furthermore, 1 and 2 can selectively detect acetylacetone (acac)/Fe3+ and acac/MnO4− ions, separately, via the luminescence quenching process.
