Abstract

Excited states in mirror nuclei 31S and 31P were populated in the 1n and 1p exit channels, respectively, of the reaction 20Ne + 12C. The beam of 20Ne, with an energy of 33 MeV, was delivered for the first time by the Piave-Alpi accelerator of the Laboratori Nazionali di Legnaro. Angular correlations of coincident pairs and Doppler-shift attenuation lifetime measurements in 31S and 31P were performed using the multidetector array GASP in conjunction with the EUCLIDES charged particle detector. A comparison of the determined B(E1) strengths of the analog mirror 7/2- → 5/2+ transitions indicates the presence of a violation of isospin symmetry.

Abstract

In many cases the chirality was almost observed but the transition probabilities are different. This fact is clearly seen in the cases of 134Pr and 102Rh. In the case of chirality, the yrast and the side bands should be nearly degenerate. In the angular momentum region where chirality sets, the B(E2) values of the electromagnetic transitions deexciting analog states of the chiral twin bands should be almost equal. Correspondingly the B(M1) values should exhibit staggering. Our lifetime measurements in the cases of 134Pr and 102Rh and the theoretical analysis do not support static chirality. Chirality has mainly a dynamical character in both nuclei. In the present paper, we compare our results with the results for other chiral candidate nuclei, which fulfill static chirality conditions.

Abstract

Two odd-odd nuclei from the A ~ 100 and A ~ 130 regions, namely 102Rh and 134Pr have been studied in search for chiral doublet bands via 94Zr(11B,3n)102Rh and 119Sn(19F,4n)134Pr reactions, respectively. Two nearly degenerate bands built on the πg9/2 ⊗ vh11/2 configuration have been identified in 102Rh and on the πg11/2 ⊗ vh11/2 configuration for 134Pr. Lifetimes of excited nuclear states were measured using Dopplershift attenuation method and recoil distance Doppler-shift method. The deexciting gamma rays were registered by the Indian National Gamma Array for 102Rh and using the EUROBALL IV detector array with an inner Bismuth Germanate (BGO) ball for 134Pr, respectively. Polarization and angular correlation measurements have been performed to establish the spin and parity assignments for these bands. The derived reduced transition probabilities are compared to the predicitons of the two quasiparticles + triaxial rotor and interacting boson fermion-fermion models.

Abstract

Excited states in 102Rh were populated in the fusion-evaporation reaction 94Zr(11B, 3n)102Rh at a beam energy of 36 MeV, using the INGA spectrometer at IUAC, New Delhi. The angular correlations and the electromagnetic character of some of the 03B3-ray transitions observed in 102Rh were investigated in detail. A new candidate for achiral twin band was identified in 102Rh for the first time.

Abstract

To investigate the interplay between collective and single particle degrees of freedom in odd nuclei, Recoil distance Doppler-shift and Doppler-shift attenuation lifetime measurements were carried out for levels in 155Dy in coincidence detection of gamma-rays. 26 lifetimes were determined using the Differential decay curve method. Particle plus triaxial rotor model (PTRM) calculations were performed to compare the experimental level scheme and transition strengths with theoretical ones in order to get information on the quadrupole deformation (є,γ) of the bands. As a result, different quadrupole deformations for the one-quasineutron bands at low and medium spins are deduced.

Abstract

The response of a scintillation detector with a cylindrical 1.5-inch LaBr3:Ce crystal to incident neutrons has been measured in the energy range En = 2-12 MeV. Neutrons were produced by proton irradiation of a Li target at Ep = 5-14.6 MeV with pulsed proton beams. Using the time-of-flight information between target and detector, energy spectra of the LaBr3:Ce detector resulting from fast neutron interactions have been obtained at 4 different neutron energies. Neutron-induced gamma rays emitted by the LaBr3:Ce crystal were also measured in a nearby Ge detector at the lowest proton beam energy. In addition, we obtained data for neutron irradiation of a large-volume high-purity Ge detector and of a NE-213 liquid scintillator detector, both serving as monitor detectors in the experiment. Monte-Carlo type simulations for neutron interactions in the liquid scintillator, the Ge and LaBr3:Ce crystals have been performed and compared with measured data. Good agreement being obtained with the data, we present the results of simulations to predict the response of LaBr3:Ce detectors for a range of crystal sizes to neutron irradiation in the energy range En = 0.5-10 MeV, Comment: 28 pages, 10 figures, 4 Tables

Abstract

Excited states in the mirror nuclei $^{31}$P and $^{31}$S were populated in the 1p and 1n exit channels of the reaction $^{20}$Ne + $^{12}$C, at a beam energy of 33 MeV. The $^{20}$Ne beam was delivered for the first time by the Piave-Alpi accelerator of the Laboratori Nazionali di Legnaro. Angular correlations of coincident γ-rays and Doppler-shift attenuation lifetime measurements were performed using the multi-detector array GASP in conjunction with the EUCLIDES charged particle detector. In the observed B(E1) strengths, the isoscalar component, amounting to 24% of the isovector one, provides strong evidence for breaking of the isospin symmetry in the A=31 mass region. Self-consistent beyond mean field calculations using Equation of Motion method based on a chiral potential and including two- and three-body forces reproduce well the experimental B(E1) strengths, reinforcing our conclusion. Coherent mixing from higher-lying states involving the Giant Isovector Monopole Resonance accounts well for the effect observed. The breaking of the isospin symmetry originates from the violation of the charge symmetry of the two- and three-body parts of the potential, only related to the Coulomb interaction.

Abstract

A theoretical model based on a multidimensional generalization of the Fresnel-Kirchhoff theoy is developed to study angular-spectral intensity distribution of a two-dimensional beam/pulse with an asymmetric induced phase modulation. The model is used in the analysis of various electrooptical parameters, such as temporal and spectral aspects. Experiments ae also performed to investigate these parameters. A good agreement is observed between the theoretical and experimental results.

WOS: 000407994600003, The structure of the S-33 nucleus was investigated in the Mg-24(N-14, alpha p) fusion-evaporation reaction using a 40-MeV N-14 beam. The level scheme was extended up to an excitation energy of 11.7 MeV and spin 19/2+. Lifetimes of the intermediate-and high-spin states have been investigated by the Doppler shift attenuation method. Abstract

The Institute for Nuclear Research and Nuclear Energy at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences is building a cyclotron facility dedicated to production, and research and development of radiopharmaceuticals. 18F is of primary interest and the radiological characterization of the cyclotron and it’s vault with an 18O-target has shown that local shielding around the target will be useful in limiting the spatial distribution of emitted secondary particles and to decrease the activation of the vault walls. The current study shows preliminary numerical results on the optimization of local shielding around 18O-target for 18F production. For the purpose a simplified spherical geometry of the local shielding and the vault walls has been considered. Results for the production of residual nucleis in the vault walls been obtained. Abstract

The Institute for Nuclear Research and Nuclear Energy at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences is preparing to operate a high-power cyclotron for production of isotopes for nuclear medicine. 67,68Ga are some of the target isotopes as studies have shown that both of them can be produced via direct proton irradiation with a cyclotron. The aim of this study is to assess numerically the production of both nuclides 67,68Ga via (p, xn) reactions on 67,68Zn-enriched solid targets. Various irradiation conditions are compared with respect to End Of Beam activity and contaminants. Abstract

The lifetimes of eight lower spin levels of the yrast band in Yb-168, populated via the Sm-154(O-18,4n) and Sn-124(Ca-48,4n) reactions, were measured, six of them for the first time, by means of the recoil-distance Doppler-shift method. Two versions of the differential decay-curve method have been applied for the data analysis resulting in a very good agreement. The reduced transition probabilities indicate some reduction of the collectivity for states just above the 6(1)(+) level, i.e. well below the band-crossing. The reasons of this effect are discussed in terms of an interaction between the ground-state band and yet unknown part of the two-quasiparticle (nu(13/2)) spin-aligned S-band by invoking the shell-structure or alternatively/additionally, as changes in the internal structure/shape induced by the rotation. Abstract

Recoil distance Doppler-shift and Doppler-shift attenuation lifetime measurements were carried out for levels in Dy-155 through the coincident detection of. rays. Twenty-six lifetimes, most of them for the first time, were determined using the differential decay curve method for the analysis of the data. At low and medium spins, particle-plus-triaxial-rotor calculations reveal different quadrupole deformations for the one-quasineutron bands in this transitional nucleus. At high spin, the reduced B(E2) transition probabilities confirm with a better precision the results of a previous study implying decreased collectivity with increasing spin.

Abstract

Excited states in 102Rh, populated by the fusion-evaporation reaction 94Zr(11B,3n)102Rh at a beam energy of 36 MeV, were studied using the INGA spectrometer at IUAC, New Delhi. The angular correlations and the electromagnetic character of some of the gamma-ray transitions observed were investigated in details. A new chiral candidate sister band was found in the level-scheme of 102Rh. Lifetimes of exited states in 102Rh were measured by means of the Doppler-shift attenuation technique.
